Okay, so finals is over and I have a moment to breathe!

I have several HAT related things to do.

STATS - It's time to add in some key variables and especially romance stats and relationship markers. Time for some jealousy.

ROMANCE - Now that the foundation for future events has been established, I can actually get to relationship development. You've met all the ROs, so now it's time to get this show on the road, and to give certain characters more screen time.

SIDE STORIES - I might put a poll up of what side stories y'all would like. Also there hasn't been much said about Maid, A Princess, so I'm not sure how y'all are feeling about it.

Hey Birb! Have you been looking at my notes? That is exactly what I have planned for the game.

Not necessarily because I want people to accidentally build a harem, but more because romance flags and approval points will be accrued by more than just flirting or affection.

I want players to be pleasantly surprised by the reactions of ROs to things they choose to do and hopefully encourage them to roleplay their characters however they want.

For example, Astrid is a lover of wet cat people. So if MC trips in front of them, her approval would go up.

So keep that in mind for the future. Some choices may have results you never expected. But don't fear, the language for the more overt flirtation and affection will be clear.

🥀 Demo Update + VSCode

Had to delay drafting and coding for a bit!

Twine was never going to be sustainable for my coding style, and I decided to upgrade to a more comprehensive system with syntax highlighting now rather than later; however, migrating to Visual Studio Code has been more challenging than anticipated.

Fortunately I have a friend who is much smarter than me at coding!

With luck I'll be able to start working again soon, and I really think this will expedite my process for future chapters.

Hello, my friends!

Just wanted to pop in with some info and updates.

*The "Cursed Birthday" won the 2k follower celebration poll. Sorry dads! I don't have an ETA for that just yet. I may write it here and there until the end of the year as the motivation strikes. I think the easiest way to tell the tale would be from Oswin's POV or even a shifting POV between him and Da (Kip). I'll decide for sure once I begin to write it. Also playing with the idea of doing this in Twine to make it playable. That way you could put your MC's specifics in for maximum emotional damage.

*I will still write things about the dads though, so all my Papa and Da fans out there won't be left in the dark forever.

*I will be "patching" Chapter 5 in the near future. I redid Zahn's scene (again) which gave me such a headache on release day. I formatted the beginnings in a much more streamlined way and fixed some bugs. When I have more time to sit and go through error reports, and make more corrections to typos, grammar, and code - then I will put the patch through.

*All chapters will be getting a scrub for issues in the text in the coming months. I will do my best to find them, but self-editing is very difficult (there's good reason that professional editors exist). In the future, I may need to ask for testers/editors.

*ASKS will be changing a bit. I do not know the full extent of how because it's a trial by fire. The rules will be updated as I come across things. But, here's why:

Spoiler prevention - as much as it is possible, I want to limit spoiling content for both new and existing readers. Not just for the plot points that are developing, but also for our mystery suitor who will have a lot of unraveling in the coming chapters. I will probably make a specific tag for answers that may contain spoilers, but some of the issue is the information in the Ask itself, which I can't hide. I may opt to compile these in a big post like once a month or so. This way, if anyone does not want to see anything spoilery, it's easier to avoid.

Time management - reaction asks specifically will remain limited and they will honestly have to be a lower priority depending on the condition of my inbox. I am very sorry for this, but these can take an inordinate amount of time. I write this IF in my downtime from work and personal life, and I also use those moments to manage Tumblr. I need to balance those so I can work toward releasing more of the IF.

Patreon - I still plan to give Patreon a go probably starting January. This will help me fund things for the game, such as art, and help me justify spending even more of my time writing chapters and extras. But like everything else, I will need to allot time to work on these things.

Personal Development - I'm taking a coding class! I can work on it at my leisure and it won't take a ton of time during the week, but it will take me out of my Tumblr time a little bit I think. Fingies crossed, I will learn a lot that will help me code a better game for you!

*Inbox - I have several Asks awaiting responses about chapter 5. As noted above, I am holding these due to spoilers to give readers a chance to catch up. (I may opt to compile these in one large post.)

‎ ‎ ‎ Dubbed by fans as "the mom of the band," Parker Groves is the heart of Dusk. She's sweet, almost too kind for the music industry, but Dusk would have fallen apart a lot sooner if not for her. The only question is whether she can take the pressure of playing glue again... after all, she did leave her new band for this revival.

NICK/NANCY HAYES — The Drummer. M/F

‎ ‎ ‎ Sharp-tongued and even sharper-tempered, Hayes isn't thrilled about being back, but the promised paycheck is enough to spend a year with their former bandmates. After Dusk fell apart, Hayes left to travel and escape the major leagues. They even started meditating, though it hasn’t done much for their anger issues.

LENNY CARSON — The Bassist. F

‎ ‎ ‎ The new girl on the block, Eleanor "Lenny" Carson went from YouTube sensation and Dusk superfan to replacing their late bassist. She thought she was used to fame and attention, with over a million followers online… but performing in a packed stadium is a whole lot scarier than performing to a webcam in her bedroom. Plus, she's got the legacy of Jordan Iyer hanging over her. There's nothing she can do but prove herself.

‎ ‎ ‎ Cali’s younger brother and full-time pain in their ass, Ethan is a little too supportive of Dusk’s reunion—he’s even debating a tattoo. He’s a flirt, a gossip, and a little too reckless for his own good, but hey, isn’t that what being the youngest is all about?

HAZEL WU — The Competition. F

‎ ‎ ‎ Creator of Music Managed, the second-biggest name in independent music journalism. Hazel will also be covering Dusk’s reunion tour, albeit from the sidelines. Unless, of course, she can dig up some dirt about the band that even you aren’t privy to. She’s not afraid to stir the pot... after all, she was the first to suggest foul play in Jordan Iyer’s death.

TAI DE SMIDT — The Best Friend. NB

‎ ‎ ‎ Your best friend and co-founder of Off The Record, Tai is as bright as the sun—and they know it. Loving and excitable, there’s a reason they’ve been your ride-or-die since kindergarten. Just don’t forget they’re a self-proclaimed "whore for gossip."

Zain/Zaina Tharset ∆ M or F, 28

"You're my birthright, and I'd sooner have you dead than let you make a fool out of me."

Z is your charge. Loud, obnoxious, and entitled; They don't care about your feelings or protests. Every desire that leaves them only serves them alone, and it's on brand for most of the charges you've had before. In simple terms, Z is not a good person, and the more time you serve under them, the less you believe they have any redeeming qualities.

Like everyone in the family, Z has warm brown skin with golden undertones, and eyes in light shades of brown. Their hair is naturally curly and shaved on the sides, leaving a strip of hair on the top and back, like a fashionable mohawk. Zaina's hair reaches the middle of her shoulder blades, while Zain's stops at the nape of his neck.

Being bound to them is painful, but you have no choice. Trying to retrieve your soul will be an ordeal, and it might not be worth the agony.

Rami Tharset ∆ M, 28, RO

"Just because the world has forgotten you, forgotten them, doesn't mean I will."

Rami is the twin brother of your current charge. Kind and humble, it's difficult to imagine him a part of the Tharset family on count of how different he is from that pit of vipers. He keeps to himself, usually holed away in a library or study where he digs into the history of, well, you. Or the ancient world you came from. This has caused the rest of the archeological community to shun him, the name of your old empire nothing more than a myth and a glorified fairy tale.

Rami shares his family's warm brown skin tone, and the black curly hair that's usually a messy mop that sits on top of his head, unstyled and naturally chaotic. The God of the Night, and everything that you have left of an age and life long forgotten. While the rest of your pantheon faded one by one, he remained. You've always known Maluset as a calm presence, a steadfast and unperturbed God that never let himself be shaken, by mortals or his siblings.

While Mal prefers manifesting as his animal motif - a jackal made of black marble and eyes like consolidated galaxies - he does have a human form too. If he must appear mortal, his skin takes the color of what the mortals of your time had; bronzed, medium brown with a golden undertone. His hair would be jet black and curly, medium length, and he likes it naturally tousled by the winds. If necessary, he'll let his eyes appear dark brown in color, but he prefers the starlit skies in them instead.

He's been a constant in your life, at least until he disappeared three centuries ago. You know he's still out there since the realm where you take shelter is his, and it hasn't yet disappeared.

Rory Ewing ∆ F, 23, RO

Rory is a new acquaintance to you, but there's something very familiar about her. She might just be a student now, her curiosity bringing her close to you, but you can feel an old connection whenever she's close by. Her voice reminds you of prayers long ago, even if her modern vernacular is closer to 'damn, that shit's the bomb' than hymns sung in your praise. Then again, reincarnation has a way of changing people.

It doesn't, however, change appearances. Back in your day, Rory's vessel was a traveler from the north; Her skin was light beige, rosy in its undertones. Her hair was thick and a subdued red, woven into an intricate braid that hung over her shoulder, reaching her midriff. Her eyes were also uncommon to you; pale green, vibrant but ghostly.

She doesn't remember you, and maybe that's for the best. Her new self is a stark contrast to who she was, and you don't think she'd enjoy the idea of donning priestess garb over the punk-rockish getup she wears now.

Taz Arian ∆ M, 34, RO

Taz is... Someone. He appears out of nowhere to join your journey, his knowledge of old ruins and tombs handy but somewhat worrying when he shouldn't even be able to see you. There's a strange thrum of power coming from him whenever he speaks, and you swear you've met him before, but where? It might be easier to find out if he didn't deflect and flirt his way out of things, but it does help with mortals that can't see you.

His appearance is nothing extraordinary; Dark brown hair that's held up in a bun, and you could assume it reaches his shoulders when loose, the loose curls pulling it a tad shorter. His eyes are light in color, almost golden in the right light, glinting with mischief. His skin is weathered, and golden bronze in color, with an intricate tattoo of an eagle spanning across his chest. He also sports a short beard, which gives him a rogueish look.

There is something about him that tugs at your memories, but you can't catch that thread of remembrance for long enough to recall him. Still, he doesn't seem to mind and resorts to teasing you instead.

But, from what your tutors teach you, they have these massive angel wings that preen out whenever they get into something mischievous. Cloth wraps around their naked body, Eros doesn't leave much to the imagination. However, in some readings, Eros is depicted as a female with hip-length black hair, while in others, the male version likes to keep it cropped and out of his way.

How would the ROs react to seeing the MC cry for the first time?

Assuming this is in the crushing stage and they are not in a relationship yet so maximum awkward energy is available (Because it is funnier to me).

Theo - Immediately rushes in to help MC and comfort them. He is whipping out the blanket, tissues, ice cream and big hug to make sure MC knows that Theo is there for them and free to cry in front of him.

Astrid - Fleeing. If she is in the crush stage then she won't know how to react or how to help so she will just try and flee the scene then send a drone with chocolate and her favourite book to comfort MC. She is just very very awkward about the situation.

Nico - He would panic. He is not used to comforting people at all so he will just pat MC's back and tentatively hand them a tissue. He wants to help but is just unsure how to do so.

Ara - Mother hen mode has activated. She is ushering MC to their room, fluffing up their pillows and making them comfy in bed. Then will cook them a nice meal and listen to them talk about what is bothering them.

Will - He will try to lighten the mood and crack jokes. He is the type of person to encourage people to move forward and not dwell on negative emotions. If MC does not react well to jokes he will switch gears and be more attentive and comforting.

Mina - She has a very blunt approach to crying, will tell MC to not waste their tears and focus on moving forward. She will be a silent presence next to them and provide support by staying at MC's side and doing things they need without being asked or saying a word.
