It’s got something to do with the Caucus Mountains I thought. Is there a reason why that’s problematic?

Well yes, words have meanings and "caucasians" is not a general term for white people and never was! Caucasians are people who originate from Caucasus region. It includes more than 50 ethnic groups and their history goes back to late II — early I millennium BC. It is extremely old, diverse and rich culture! You can read a little bit more literally on wikipedia.

More so they are not even considered "white" in general.

Like imagine you see somone being called "typical mexican" in a negative context. First of all it is racist of course but upon further inspection the person in question is not even mexican and have zero connections to Mexico. Thats just some random white dude. And it's very confusing at first but than you see more and more people start using the word "mexican" as a general description of white person, often in a degrading context. And it does not stop at internet weirdos and racist scum, news outlets, celebrities, well meaning people who claim to support diversity and celebrate and respect different cultures do that too. Sounds extremely weird and out of pocket, right? Well this is how i feel when i see yet another random white person being called caucasian for some reason.

You cant just...i dont know...use a name for a very specific, very old and very existing ethnic group to refer to random white people who have no connection to this group. It even sounds like such a weird and confusing concept when i write this sentence, why would anyone ever come up with idea to do it????

Hi it's just to let you know that the official romanization of Revaan's name is Raverne ! Also they have romanized Baul's name to Baur !

I do like Raverne though, I think it's got a nice fancy sound to it! (I had kinda suspected it was going to be an R instead of an L, so the fact that it's SO close to Laverne except for that is hilarious to me personally.) and Dragoneye Duke is honestly probably the best translation for his title, I wasn't envying the localizers that one. :') Baur instead of Baul I was NOT expecting, but in retrospect I think his name's supposed to be a reference to the Bauru crocodile, so that actually makes way more sense!

someone else also said Meleanor has become Maleanor, which is the REALLY weird one to me, because I was so surprised it was written as Mel instead of Mal in the first place?! oh god no I can't decide which one I like better. 😭 (I wonder if they might change it to Mal...they have made romanization changes before) (like I remember House of Distraction being corrected to House of Destruction in Playful Land) (I did check and she's still Mel for now, but I dunno, they might Mal her up and some point and save me from having to make a decision about which one to use) (HECK I CAN'T DECIDE)

I'd really recommend looking into care work

Care work here is specifically being a home care aid, a care aid or assistant at any kind of residential home.

This for usually for elderly or disabled adults - and those are the ones that tend to be most entry level, from what I've seen, but also for mental health, addiction recovery etc. (With the obvious caveat that some of these jobs will be more emotionally intense than others)

I'm so serious about this guys. I was applying to jobs in care work for just three weeks, starting a couple days before Christmas, and in that time I got three interviews, two jobs offers, and five additional interview requests

Care work needs people CONSTANTLY

because it's a huge sector but very hard for them to keep staff long-term. Partly because it can be high burn-out, and there's definitely toxic places out there you should watch out for. And partly because a lot of people think care work is beneath them

AND they ACTUALLY MEAN IT when they say they're entry level. Because it's so hard for them to get staff that a lot of them will advertise super aggressively that they will train you themselves. A lot of them will straight up pay for your CPR and First Aid certifications, once they hire you, too (and you can get a leg up on applications by getting a CPR/First Aid certification for like. $30 to $80, at least in the US). They also accept experience taking care of elderly/disabled/etc. family members as real experience

Like, obviously don't do it if you hate taking care of people, but if you're open to it, it's probably by far your best shot of getting hired rn, statistically

(eta: Genuinely disclaimer that it can be super taxing emotionally and large portions of the industry are indeed fucked, and def don't take a job in this field if you're gonna be an asshole to the people you're caring for, but sometimes you just need whatever job you can get.)

Seriously, though, the first time I applied for a care work job (in October 2023, yes short timeline, like I said there's some toxic workplaces etc. out there), I applied to like ten or fifteen jobs over the course of a week or so. Within three weeks, I was working.

(And they did provide all of the training, fwiw)

If you need a job and no one is hiring, seriously consider looking into it

super quick musings on Fathoms. i like a lot about the pose + design, but i feel like they kinda suffer from Undel Sameface when everything about their lore is pointing towards "friendly gentle ocean giants". wanted to roughly sketch Merrigan for a side-by-side comparison, and then some rough doodles of how i might push the design in a chunkier, more cetacean-inspired direction - 3 is swapping the features but keeping the overall proportions/layout mostly the same, and 4 is pushing the proportions even further

I genuinely feel so bad for them. This whole week must have been mentally draining. Sapnap had started getting so comfortable in stream but now he looks so nervous. Dream was literally crying on a space yesterday and George probably feels horrible about all this

feeling bad for dteam because of the way this situation has spun out of control and very clearly affected them to their cores

feeling bad for caiti for her experience of the night and the way this has affected her as well

Some parallels from Viren, Sarai, and Harrow to Callum, Rayla, and Ezran off the top of my head

First, the parallel between Viren realizing that accepting his truth doesn't mean foisting that onto another at the same time as Callum is embracing his truth in episode 6

Callum did dark magic, and though Viren did dark magic before the events with Soren, we can see that this is the point of no return for him. Rather than embrace his loved ones he pushed them away. Callum instead chooses to embrace his love and his truth after doing dark magic, and in doing so sets about a different path than Viren

Rayla and Sarai and the recurring line "you keep calling it a monster"

Both of them are warriors with great amounts of compassion. However, where Sarai deferred to someone else's judgment even as she disagreed and did not show compassion to the "monster" they had to kill (in both cases they needed to pierce the heart!) Rayla trusted her instincts and stood her ground on the idea that she had to show compassion instead.

Ezran referencing the "narrative of strength"/"narrative of love" line that Harrow wrote in his letter.

I suppose one can assume that Ezran eventually saw the letter that Harrow wrote to Callum, but maybe not, but that was practically a direct quote there! Ezran has consistently held fast to the idea that peace must be something to work towards (even at great sacrifice) instead of proving how strong you are. It's in his attempts to broker peace that he gets more insight into what's going on, and I bet this is going to pay off in season 7.

It was too late for Sarai, for Harrow, for Viren. We don't see as much of Sarai, who's to say she even regretted going after the magma titan (though it did lead to her death). That regret did hang over Harrow, though, and then eventually over Viren.

But it wasn't too late for Rayla, Callum, or Ezran. They get to forge a new path. I loved the emphasis on that as subtext this season, that they have grown into different people than their predecessors that will not meet the same tragic fate. Viren, Harrow, and Sarai are all a tragedy, but the next generation offers hope.
