09/29-30/2024 Daily OFMD Recap
TLDR; David Jenkins/More Honking; Taika Waititi; Samba Schutte; Kristian Nairn; Nathan Foad; OFMD Rewind; Fan Spotlight: Our Flag Mean Fanfiction Podcast / Never Left Podcast; Love Notes; Daily Darby/Tonight's Taika;
Hey crew! In the essence of I'm gonna keep this fairly short and pick some back up in 10/1. Still spending quite a lot of time with my dad at the hospital (he is slowly recovering! but it's taking a lot of time to drive to and from and also work).
== David Jenkins ==
Well Chaos Dad is back causing a mass honking across the internet today. He found some lovely ass-work in queens and decided to post about it! OFMD Insta however apparently really got on him because he made an edit saying he had to add "#asstonight". Yall are the best.

So, one thing to note is that there's quite a lot of clowning around this because of the song David chose to use: "Angela" which was the theme song for "Taxi". @adoptourcrew pointed out that not only was Taxi picked up by another network, but that Sept 30 was the day Taxi Premiered on NBC after it'd been picked up. Just something more to clown about for you!

== Love Notes ==
Hey there lovelies! Happy start to the week! It's officially October as of the day I'm posting this! Welcome to spooky season! I know things have been... a bit stressful in the fandom lately. I know everyone has feelings about different things, and I'm purposefully being vague because I don't want anyone to feel called out.
Whatever happens, whatever frustrations we have with one another crew, remember that that's how families operate. Even the best of friends or families have times of not understanding or agreeing with one another. That doesn't mean you should "put up with it" but just know that it's something that happens regularly, ok? Whatever you nee, and it doesn't have to be permanent, just do things to help you feel comfortable. Not sure how you feel and wanna talk about it? Reach out to friend over DM. We all have our own ways of processing things, and I know there are plenty of people who are willing to talk. I'd like to delve more into this but I'm pretty swamped.
Sending love crew, it's gonna be okay <3

I'm late, so it's no longer Murray Monday-- but it IS Taika Tuesday so enjoy some smiles from our guys! Gifs Courtesy of @celluloidbroomcloset and @darkinerry!

RWRB: The Awardist Podcast Interview Thoughts
Alright after listening to the podcast giddily while aggressively stomping on the cross-ramp machine to work out my extreme happiness and excitement to the point that I burnt through twice as many calories than usual and soaked through my shirt, I'm here with thoughts
Pippin @pippin-katz, who sent me a voice message at 3 am my time to tell me to brace myself and be prepared for what's happening and what I'm going to wake up it, did their own version of a summary+thoughts with timestamps here, go check that one out
So my list of thoughts is gonna be a little more all over the place
Immediately burst out laughing with the "mouthful" joke, even more so when the boys both caught it lmao
"I am not happy to see Taylor's face" and "I have a Post-it I'll stick it over your face now" that is peak bestie behaviour
Nick honey I love you but I... do not believe you don't look through online stuff lmao we literally caught you likely fan content and edits you posted two Henry edits and referenced another one
I love how unintentionally in sync they are??? For the first question they started talking at the same time, and for the second they both started nodding and stayed silent forgetting this was an audio interview
"mate, mate, mate, MATE" and the last one being said in sync oh my god this is so much fun
The whole comment on the signing wars: what Pippin said, we were literally calling Taylor "that little fucker" yesterday when he started taunting us with more BTS (EVERYONE KEEP VOTING PLEASE)
"What possessed you? What have you got against me?", the same energy as "Why do you dislike me?"
Taylor's explanation of signing on Nick's face and how it started made me laugh and scoff a little because I translated that fucking moment: the first time it happened, Taylor was in China, it was the firstprince PR photo not the GQ magazine, he was on a boat, and he was the one to ask for the photos to sign lmao
Again, need to see them sign stuff in the same time and space: FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!! :D
"Take it Nick" Nick's little snicker in response
A little heavy and personal but I wish I could talk to them and tell them how much the book, the movie, the characters and the boys mean to me and how it kept me somewhat afloat last October when I was drowning every single day, and how this story made me want to change myself and break out of my status quo
I know I've been saying Taylor knows Casey's pronouns and he gets them wrong when he's nervous, and I stand by that, but God the sigh of relief I let out when he used they/them
"Right Nick?" is so oddly comforting?
Oh my fucking God the "Top to Bottom" joke was a low-hanging fruit but it made me laugh
Also even the order was right! "Top to Bottom", "Taylor and I" (jkjk lmao) 😜
I really fucking hope that the "that's what I'm known for now, doing intimacy work on screen" is an offhand joke and that people don't genuinely label Nick as that
"Why don't you speak for this, Taylor" again, unexplainably comforting
"Seeing my mate at all these awards shows" made me remember a Chinese phrase "頂峰相見·", literally "meeting again at the peak", meaning "I'll see you when we're both at our best"
Nick's burst of laughter at the "who's a better kisser" comment
Taylor I swear to God 🤣 he combined the "is nick a good kisser" and the "who has your heart joey or Nick" questions together and said "I don't know, I don't know how to answer that question, I have no idea" DUDE YOU LITERALLY ANSWERED THE GOOD KISSER QUESTION WITH "YOU KNOW WHAT HE IS A GOOD KISSER WE HAD TO PRACTICE A LOT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT" WITH ZERO HESITATION (that answer, on that day, was first thing in the morning for me, and I lost my sanity for the next two hours)
I'm so fucking happy and Matthew comes from a theatre too, speaking as a theatre person and someone who has been dissecting this film since its release
I really think there's gotta be more improvised scenes? Or at the very least stuff like the morning after V&A that was a last-minute decision to add in and wasn't in the script, or maybe scenes where there wasn't specific lines written and they just reacted and spoke based on the scenario? Or even little moments, the shoulder kiss or something?
"Tay" OH MY HEART
Ok I can make an argument on both how Nick is like and not like Henry, but Taylor is so ACD that he basically fell out of the book? How does he not see that? (personally think Taylor's very similar to Alex with a bit of Marco?)
Oh my god the whole segment of the DNC/getting caught scene and Taylor's ass
"I will take this one" "yeah"
"I love working with her, we both love working with her" That's sweet- hang on Nick you just have this one scene with her
I have so many more questions about this scene: Was Nick actually in the closet for that one shot? How many takes did it take?
Taylor referencing a detail in Bottoms from like a 30-second scene in the movie!!! Yes!!! We love seeing friends being supportive of each other (suddenly want to hear Taylor's opinions on M&G lmfao)
"And I'm not even going to get into M&G"
The text question is kind of the only question that made me think "Why would you ask that?" because that was definitely more of a directing/editing thing
Nick really freaking loves the cake scene, he mentioned that as his favourite scene three times at this point, all times on audio, twice on video
Aw Taylor's story about Jack... 🥺
But somehow everyone knowing it lmao, and Taylor's fucking awful British accent
And at this point Nick starts swearing lmao
Awww Nick's compliment to Taylor
Tangent: what the fuck is a fuel museum?
Oh I just love hearing them finishing each other's sentences when one of them forgets the word
Lmao imagine just recovering from Covid and then needing to make out for two hours
"Next to a witchcraft shop" What the fuck lmao
Tangent again but I could write a sociology essay on what Taylor said about architecture and history
I swear to God, Nick's "go on Taylor" somehow being softer, you can fucking hear that that little shit is smirking
Taylor saying that he wants a second book from Casey and me immediately going "BOTH OF YOU QUIT YOUR FUCKING JOBS" (I have complicated feelings about the bonus chapter)
"What-if world" exactly!
Taylor pulling out the stats about the queer population: did he fucking calculate that on the spot or he just casually have that information in his head?
the little wrap-up by the hosts was so sweet but somehow talking about Taylor's ass again oh my god (his body hair being digitally edited, it was minx right?)
"it's so sweet and nice and we need more of this in our lives right now" YES WE DO, WE FUCKING DO
"he's gonna be second-guessing his booty" is not a sentence I thought I'd ever hear but here we are
Culture shock moment: the number to call the podcast/American phone numbers is 3-3-4 which caught me off guard for a second cuz here it's 4-4
And that's it for now! God, I need so much more of this, like, if this is what we get out of a half-an-hour podcast interview what would press and promo be like?
Now that we're back for awards I really freaking hope these new RWRB content will be coming back, maybe like once a week or something
WE'RE BACK WE'RE FUCKING BACK WE'RE FUCKING WINNING

How to Find Confidence in Every Stage of Your Life
First and foremost, the key to navigating hard times is keeping yourself calm and relaxed. You need to remind yourself that everything has its beginning and its end. Confidence has been a real challenge for me over the past few years. Self-doubt and self-consciousness have been difficult topics for me to face and overcome. I want to share something with you—you may not believe me at first, but it's important that you listen. You need to build good self-esteem and confidence, no matter what. Taking care of your emotional and physical health is essential, without exception. You must put yourself first because while everyone else is doing fine, you need to be doing well too.
Everyone has good days and bad days, and to stay healthy throughout life’s ups and downs, you can follow simple steps that fit into your daily routine—something that works best for you. Finding confidence, even in tough times, can be a challenge, but simple hacks often work well. Here, I will share with you what I do during tough times and how I protect my energy :
Go for a walk 🚶‍♀️ in the park or a shopping center. Buy something small for yourself and treat yourself to a gift.🎁
Call your best friend, your partner, or a close family member. Chat with them about what’s going on in your life—share your happy moments and your worries.
Have a solo movie 🍿 night with your favorite snack, ice cream🍦 or a cup of hot chocolate ☕️ or tea, while watching your favorite romantic or fantasy movie.
Go to the theatre 🎭 and watch a comedy, ballet, or something that will make you feel relaxed and at ease.
Cook something delicious for yourself, and share it with your family or friends if you'd like.🌺
Take a shower🚿 It always helps! Chill, listen to music, sing, and unwind.
If you enjoy studying or reading, you can easily find free courses to attend on platforms like Coursera or Eventbrite.📖
Do some stretching exercises or 🧘 at home.
Treat yourself to a spa night to relax your body and mind.😌
Listen to your favorite travel 🧳 , beauty 💄, or other kinds of podcasts.🎬
The greatest remedy for anxiety is motion and action—keeping busy leaves no time for negative thoughts to fester. Social media, in particular, has triggered my confidence in negative ways, so I have one more piece of advice for you:
11. Take a break from social media—Facebook, Instagram, TikTok—for one week, and you’ll see a change in your way of thinking.📱
Remember, confidence💪🏻 is something we acquire over time through experience, places, and the people we meet. I understand that not every day is going to feel like your day, but it’s important to have a routine that helps pull you out of negative moods. Also, make sure to adjust that routine from time to time to keep it dynamic.
🌷 What are your ways of finding confidence during hard days?☺️🌷

Survey Results Finally!!!
Ok! So before the whole breakdown I wanna address a couple biases and shit. So I posted this on tumblr and on a couple dndads discord servers I'm in, notably the patreon server, both of these almost definitely caused some bias in stats particularly in patreon subscription and most used social media to engage with. That said it could have been posted elsewhere (which I’m totally fine with and actively encourage the bigger and more diverse the sample is the better) but I only posted there because I wanted to minimize potential non-fans taking it and I don’t have a twitter. I also added the question of whether you have relistened and your race, ethnicity, and nationality later (as it was suggested and i thought it was a good addition) so the sample is not the full amount of people who took this survey and is smaller than other question therefore less conclusive of the dndads fanbase as a whole.
I got a total of 142 responses (and the survey is still open) so let break down all that
There were 65 questions in total, while I’m not going to break down every single one I will break down most of them
Tumblr media
Majority listen on spotify with patreon coming in a close second, the small individual answers are a mix of a combination of two or more platforms or platforms i forgot to add/didn’t know existed
Tumblr media
A little over half of the fandom is apart of the patreon but still remember that there is a bias in this question because of where i sent the survey
Tumblr media
Majority of the patreon is subscribed to the EX-L level (like me!!) with EX in a pretty close second (other is apart of EX because i forgot what is was call when I first made it)
Tumblr media
Ron comes in a very close 1st between him and henry for favorite season 1 dad
Tumblr media
Grant takes 1st in another pretty close one between him and terry for season 1 son and surprisingly Nick Foster actually got votes! (/j)
Tumblr media
Scam likely with quite the lead as a fan favorite NPC
Now favorite episode was one I had to track separately because I set it as a free response but her are the top 4 favorites:
In 4th with 13 votes Episode 42 Henry’s Father and the Chamber of Secrets In 3rd with 16 votes Episode 56 S.W.A.P. (SWitched Ass Papas) In 2nd with 17 votes Episode 44 Deck Picks In 1st with 23 votes Episode 61 Death of a Salesman
Tumblr media
Normal with fan favorite season 2 PC with almost half of the fandom
Tumblr media
Terry Jr (surprising to me I love him but ig it's the silent majority cause i never see much about him) is first place
Tumblr media
Very unsurprisingly hermie the unworthy for 1st place, bitches love this gay theatre kid but it is a little surprising the amount of a lead he has
Another one I had to by hand but the top 4 favorite season 2 episodes are
In 4th place with 5 votes, a 4 way tie between: Episode 22 Army of Tree, Episode 4 Barf Bum Movie Men, Episode 12 Scary Movie 2, and Episode 9 Debate Me Cowards
In 3rd place with 6 votes, Episode 5 Dance Dance Revelations (surprising to me as it’s not the part of the dance with Lark and Sparrow and Normal’s crisis)
In 2nd place with 8 votes, Episode 11 That thing? You Dude
Unsurprisingly in 1st place, the episode that I’ve heard some people say is one of the best episodes of Dungeons and Daddies, with 50 votes, Episode 23 Alright
Tumblr media
Ron takes overall favorite
Tumblr media
Hermie surpasses (one of) his father for favorite NPC
Tumblr media
Jodie wins as the guest PC, which kinda surprises me
Tumblr media
Oakworthy wins as the most popular ship, most of the thin slices are variations of “I don’t ship” and some less talked about ships
Tumblr media
The majority of fans don't have a preference between season 1 or 2
Tumblr media
At the Mountains of Dadness is the most popular piece of bonus content
Tumblr media
The majority of the fandom have relistened to the podcast
The subject of Jodie, almost everyone liked how Jimmy played him but the views on his character are a little different. Many poll takers said he grew on them and the majority of the fandom seems to feel neutral to positive to him. A lot of people said he was a good narrative foil to Glenn (I agree!!) and that he’s “funny as fuck” (i also agree) however some people also voiced dislike him do to messing up the timeline, being a cop, messing up Nick’s character, and just the plotline he was apart of. Lots of ACAB in the responses.
Lots of funny responses on this one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Asexual bitches and queer bitches love dungeons and daddies (I'm an asexual bitch myself) there was a whole one (1) fully cis het allo survey taker.
Tumblr media
The fanbase skews pretty heavily to the younger side with the majority of the fandom being 18-25 and a huge majority if you just look at it as 25 and under.
Tumblr media
Non-binary bitches love dungeons and daddies (I’m a non-binary bitch as well)
Tumblr media
Huge majority of fans are neurodivergent with most thin results being a variation of “I don’t know, somethings probably wrong up there”
Tumblr media
Anxious bitches love dungeons and daddies (i am an anxious bitch)
Tumblr media
Majority of people who responded are white, however this question was implemented later and only has 62 responses.
Most fans got into dungeons and daddies from word of mouth, typically from friends or mutuals online
Relationships with fathers are mixed. A decent amount say good, some say bad, but a lot can be put as complicated. A good amount of people used parallels from dungeons and daddies most often grant and darryl.
Tumblr media
Your dads cool as fuck
Relationships with moms are also mixed, but a little more drastic(?). The positives are generally stronger but the negatives are also more negative.
Most sibling relationships are good! However there were a decent amount of responses stating the relationship was distant
Majority of fans are from america but there's a good variety from all over.
Tumblr media
Majority of the fandom interacts through tumblr (this still is one with bias)
Majority of fans say their experience with the fandom has been very good
Tumblr media
Majority of fans make some for of fan content
Tumblr media
Oaks are very big on the fandoms kin lists, especially normal
Most common fandoms: NADPOD TAZ D20 TOH MCYT/Minecraft DHMIS OFMD PJO TMA

Specific headcanons I really like (if any of these are your feel free to reblog as to claim them) I think Samantha likes to dress very colorfully while Ron is on the plain side, except when she gifts him an accessory that is just as colorful as she is, and while it clashes w/ the rest of his wardrobe he treasures it because he loves her lots Walter owns chickens and he grows herbs around their pen as a natural pest repellent Glenn is a sex-favorable asexual The shortest one I can fit here is that Glenn has a lot of stick n poke tattoos that are all made by Morgan (which disappeared after the verdict) and lark has bpd Yeets skateboard is a prosthetic Terry is the only son to go to therapy AROACE SPARROW <333 Hermie rights in Cursive like an asswhole Jewish Terry Jr and Samantha

alright, last one !! could i pretty please request a 🎬: casting call for my beloved newsies ?
some stuff about me:
so, my name is dolly, and I’m a panromantic asexual person. my gender is… weird 😂 because really I think gender is an odd social construct and I don’t really care what people refer to me as. i’m also autistic, and some of my special interests include musical theatre, books, true crime, superheroes, and mythology of all different kinds and cultures. j don’t get the opportunity to talk about my special interests a lot, but once I do, you’ll have a hard time getting me to stop talking.
so for hobbies, i spend most of my time either reading or writing fanfiction (and sometimes original short stories), listening to music, and watching movies or tv shows. i mostly like all kinds of music, but I’m not really the biggest fan of rap. i’m also really into true crime podcasts, and I have a love for older tv shows, such as m*a*s*h and the a-team, as well as all the marvel and dc movies and tv shows. I really love books, and my ultimate career goal is to be a librarian (although if you asked me my absolute dream job, the answer would be a voice actor). I’m also a half-decent singer, at least depending on who you ask.
personality-wise, i kind of cycle between being bubbly and cheerful and quieter and shyer (a textbook ambivert, me), but no matter what, i always do my best to be a good listener and to make my friends (which includes you of course !!) happy, because i am very loyal and i love them a lot.
alright, hopefully that wasn’t too much 😅 thanks in advance, i’m excited to see your answer, and I hope you’re doing well !! <3
oh man i need to get back into my newsies obsession. it's been too long since i watched the recording. in the meantime...
i ship you with race!
Tumblr media
race is one of the first people you meet amongst the manhattan newsies. it's something he takes great pride in, almost too much pride. although it takes him much too long to figure out why that might be, all of the other newsies clued in pretty much immediately. an infatuated race is a fun one, though, so they make sure he gets there eventually. race makes excuses to end up near you whenever he's out selling papers, and always has to tell you the crazy stories that happened that day when he meets you at the newsies' lodging house in the evening. race loves going out and having fun with you, but he's also quite happy to lie back and cuddle when you're more up for a quiet day. he's glad you get along so well with the other newsies, and everyone agrees that there's no two people better suited for each other.
thank you for taking part in my celebration!

I’M BACK AND I WANNA SEND SOMETHIN’ IN YOUR EVENT!! Can I pretty please get a Coraline ship for Ted Lasso with no gender preference??
Some stuff about me:
So, my name is Dolly (you knew that), and I’m a panromantic asexual person. My gender is… weird (😂), because really I think gender is an odd social construct and I don’t really care what people refer to me as. Appearance-wise, I’m pretty short and kind of chubby, but I have freckles in the summer which I love. I have brown hair that I’ve had in a pixie cut since I was in fifth grade, as well as a gap between my front teeth that I have kind of a mixed relationship with. My style is very relaxed and all over the place, but I would love to wear more cute dresses and skirts and cute pale pink clothes.
RPersonality-wise, I kind of cycle between being bubbly and cheerful and quieter and shyer (a textbook ambivert, me), but no matter what, I always do my best to be a good listener and to make my friends (which includes you!!) happy, because I am very loyal and I love them a lot.
Sorry, I know this was a lot (😅). But thank you in advance, my love, and I hope you’re doing well!! ♡♡♡
Tumblr media
(i was going to just type alright alright but then i read it in his voice and i had to add the gif)
This was a difficult one because there’s just so many of them that could work and they’re all so precious and lovely, and you’re so precious and lovely, but honestly I’m going to ship you with Isaac.
He’s very protective so if anyone tried to get on you for being queer or neurodivergent he wouldn’t stand for it at all, and he’d also be there for you if it ever got to you. I think if you met after Colin came out, and he was learning and becoming more knowledgeable about queerness and everything, he’d ask him questions but not in a weird “you must know everything about all the gay, you are the gay” way, but endearing like “you might know something about this and if not you can point me in the right direction of where i can learn” way.
And if definitely gets really excited to introduce you to the team, he doesn’t show it though until he calls a team huddle after their practice and he’s like “Oi, my partner (i like the term joyfriend but i know it’s not for everyone) is coming to the next match, and i’m a bit nervous, so we play our best, and you be on your best form.” so he introduces you to Keeley first, and then she brings you to her seats with Rebecca and it’s lovely and they win (some reasonable score because i don’t know soccer)—nil. And when you go out with the team to celebrate the win they’re all so kind to you and it’s lovely and wonderful 💕💕💕 and if you get overwhelmed he’s completely fine with going outside for a minute or going home completely. He wants to do whatever makes you most comfortable and happy and he won’t listen to you if you say you’ll go somewhere just to make him happy if it means you’ll be uncomfortable. He knows you’ll tell him you’ll go to make him happy, but what really makes him happy is when you’re having fun.
And BOOKSHOP DATES!!!!!!! 1000000000%
And when you move in together he wants you to fill all the shelves but he doesn’t tell you, he just takes you to a shop and says get whatever you want and you just go crazy getting anything that looks interesting from history books and encyclopedias, to fantasy series and mysteries

May 2024
Spending the first day of the month completely alone. At home. Working on little projects. Labeling all the boxes in the basement. Hanging art. Building a wooden frame for my new kitchen shelves. Tiling my bookcase.
Guessing correctly why I suddenly got a tummy ache. Doing exactly the right thing to make it go away (coffee and meds on an empty stomach are never a good idea).
Mentally apologizing to my body for only really moving it once a week during yoga class.
Recreating my grandma's potato goulash. Eating it with sour cream.
Buying a stool on sale that might or might not look like a little sheep.
Strawberry milkshake on a stressful day. It literally cooled me down.
Getting to know the lady who lives in the cool and airy apartment across the street.
Caught in the act: a little birdy landing on my sheepskin, ripping out a big fur ball for its nest.
Prioritizing alone time. Saying no to social obligations.
Long naps. Sleeping with the windows open, a nasal dilutor and mouth tape. Such a difference. Sometimes I even put a teeth whitening strip in and I want to start experimenting with self-hypnosis tracks.
Unearthing one of my old favourites: Dallmayr Ginger Ginseng green tea.
Sorting out my jewellery just to find a few pieces I really wanted to wear again!
Going to Gregor von Raffay's (Kathi's dad) vernissage. Falling in love with his painting Am Meeresgrund. Having a good time with Chili, Kathi and their kids Luis and Maya.
Rolling down the car windows. Singing along loudly to Soak Up the Sun by Sheryl Crow. My summer jam 2024. Also, I was surprised when I saw what a detailed Wikipedia article this song has.
Coconut porridge and fresh peaches (what a divine smell) for breakfast. Eating outside on the balcony.
Self-massage and gua sha with Aesop Breathless oil - a subtle blood orange smell.
The sudden urge to listen to Unison again. And again. Masterpiece.
Making a playlist of podcast episodes that left an impression.
Watching movies from the late 80s/90s/early 00s I haven't seen yet. I need more feel-good cinema in my life.
Singing at church with my choir. Emotional... such dense energy in there, every time.
Buying spices, bread and Greek antipasti at the market. I wonder why it's so rare for me to go shopping there. I always enjoy it tremendously. But it's probably because I've always thought that it's too expensive. I might have to put market days in my calendar! Hope that helps.
The golden chain tree has started to bloom in yellow cascades in our garden!
A spontaneous decision to join some friends at the drag flea market at Pathos. Exactly the right kind of people I needed that day. Julia, Daniel, Patricia and Katharina. I bought two wigs and a sassy Queen of Hearts costume. Then we sat outside an Italian restaurant until it got cold. Quite entertaining and the right amount of socializing.
My first time in a Float tank.
Finding Isabel Allende's Eva Luna in a box of free books after the thunderstorm.
Making banana ice-cream as a midnight snack.
An improv theatre workshop. So many good ideas and such fun! I even got a day off for it! (and one of the participants who noticed that I was having a tough time and offered me her yoghurt; we really vibed in the word association exercise, too)
Not an exclusively good thing because it came with a lot of fear, an activated abandonment wound and some emotional damage (I spent my lunch break locked in the handicapped toilet trying to calm down my tense body, not knowing how to properly release my emotions, crying big teardrops on the tile floor): three tough but cathartic conversations with C. Deciding that we would stay together. And that lovely moment in the morning when I felt my affection for him coming back.
Sneaking into yoga class. Listening to my body. So glad I went.
Being a member of the little team that is going to suggest new outfits for our gospel choir. Using Miranda Priestley as our group icon. / Also: everyone's joy when Beate got a phone call from Sarah telling her that her son was born a few hours before!
Baffled parents asking me how I manage their kids - and I'm the only teacher who can. Apparently I'm doing something right.
Single use changing mats. Best idea ever. So liberating. I hate wet spots.
The first rays of sunshine in the morning after a few horribly rainy days. Hoping for a chance to dry everything wet on the balcony.
Running into Uschi and Andrea. Dealing with their gossip with a new, detached energy.
Adding a few lemon slices to my tap water. Using my Retap bottle with the wooden lid for the first time in years.
A lengthy journalling session with lots of insights.
Flight mode for more peace of mind.
My strelitzia producing a huge new leaf. The baby is bigger than all the old ones.
Meeting some members of the Burn Family at Stroke Art fair. Good conversations with Sandra, Yeli and Kathi. Discovering a few inspiring artists.
Cinema and dinner with LenObi. It's been a while.
The moon appearing as a faint but full disc with a thin crescent in the lower right corner.
Eggplant burgers.
Visiting Ramapriya's yoga studio for the first time. I don't know what took me so long. We reconnected immediately and now I'm thinking about doing a Yoga Vidya teacher training. I learned so much in that one class. Her pelvic floor asanas and explanations were fantastic. Afterwards we talked about HSP, Human Design (she’s a fellow member of the ManGen club), her daughter, and she showed me a mantra to remove obstacles / gain energy, inspiration and joy. I left after more than two hours. C. called me and told me about a crazy dream featuring an erupting volcano.
Buying a FeetUp as a birthday gift to myself to practice handstands and improve my balance and core strength.
Hanging laburnum branches above C.'s kitchen table.
A walk through the forest/Filzen with C. Picking a bouquet of wildflowers. And “old people sex” which is what we called lying in bed attached to the same EMS machine, having a good conversation. Jumping on the trampoline together. Receiving little caresses and holding hands while watching TV. An intimate high pressure massage. Telling our dreams to each other in the morning. Making travel plans. Turning it around.
When the podcast is about to end right when you arrive at home.
Talking to Annika about portals.
Body doubling. Grading English tests while C. was assembling his new standing table. I love working side by side. Or even just somebody being present - it's some sort of control mechanism, I feel supported. I did that for C. when I just sat with him while he sorted out his storage space. And I think it really helped him, too.
Reading the lyrics of Die Interimsliebenden by Einstürzende Neubauten with C. In ihrem gemeinsamen Mund lebt ein Kolibri. Mit jedem seiner Flügelschläge, dafür das Auge viel zu träge, Kulturen erblühen und vergehen; ganze Kontinente untergehen.
Getting to know Elena, who works with Somatic Experiencing and Craniosacral Method. We got to know each other and I drew two pictures of my body. How it currently feels and what I want it to feel like. Interesting insights.
Waking up in a weird but calm energy on my birthday. Drawing the receptivity card. Attending a workshop on Deep Listening at the Art Academy. We meditated and played with sounds, even synthesizers. While some of it was too much for me (I could hear the electric current and most of the synthesizer sounds felt threatening) I enjoyed the concept and exercises. The other participants were all art teachers too. I felt resistance around one of them, Bastien, but we started talking over lunch. It got interesting really quickly and we spent two more hours in the English Garden after the workshop. B. told me his story. How he received healing. Experiences he's made. It was batshit crazy but I think I believe him. Was that the story I needed to receive that day? / Then I had tacos with Ben and we got along famously. I told him how much I like him when he's sober. I rented a karaoke box for two hours and sang with lots of friends - even Manu came which delighted me more than I would have expected.
Another relational abyss. Melodramatic scenes, right out of a movie. Turning around one of the saddest days of the year by truly talking and listening to each other. Seeing the wounded inner child in my partner. Being there for him. A commitment to doing the work. Growth.
Thoughtful birthday presents. A pillow for my uncomfortable car, a beautiful wok with wooden handles, homemade liquor and roasted pistachios. A video note from Christian and Lian.
Joking with C. and L. Easy, relaxed, appreciative. Developing C.’s idea for his outside platform. A relaxed morning with a kiss goodbye.
Lucie blessing me by singing the Om Tryambakam mantra for my birthday.
Shower Citrus! Eating a citrus fruit in the shower. My theory: the warm steam enhances the smell of the essential oil in the peel. It smells divine! What an experience.
A lavish breakfast. The spontaneous decision to go on a roadtrip. So we just packed the car and went our way. First we visited C.'s friend Maxi. She's one of those people with whom you immediately feel comfortable with. Her home was lovely. I also want a garden, chickens, a yoga platform. We slept in a caravan, talked about Merlin Sheldrake, had green pancakes and herbs, vegetable cake, smelled her entire DoTerra essential oil collection (Cassium, Madagascar Vanilla and Grapefruit are my favorites). I adored her daughter’s hairstyle (two chopsticks in a bun) and felt very cheerful one morning when I came into the house and an old Cat Power album was playing. / Then we visited her mum and tested all her esoteric devices and appliances. Moved on, had to change plans because C. forgot his backpack. Stopped at a strawberry field. Met Maxi and Juna at a lake, went swimming. I was reminded of how much I love that kind of movement. Water really is my element. We slept at a campsite in Aue. Not my scene at all. But the next day, we went to a thermal bath and sauna. Another happy place. Then we stayed with Franzi in Leipzig. I adored her apartment and we had a long conversation on her balcony. We also visited Marie together the next day. I tried to convince her cat to like me - no such luck. And I also ran into Jonathan that afternoon who was in town to visit his brother. What a strange coincidence. We went vintage shopping - I bought stained glass (and really want to learn how to work with it myself), C. bought an iridescent fake python jacket and a postcard for his son. We checked into a hotel. Received another lesson on personal boundaries. Went for a swim and a sauna session. Had ramen noodles. After a big breakfast (with fresh nut butter, delicious) we went to Jena and spent Ralf's lunch break in the botanical garden with him. We had a lovely time and spent the rest of the day in the planetarium for a 360° full dome movie festival and a concert. I took breaks for a Thai massage and fantastic Indian food. What a great trip.
Chris Wormell’s incredible illustrations, escpecially his astronomical woodcuts.
The tiniest mushrooms starting to grow in my champignon kit.
Making strawberry Raffaello cake for the Filzhof pizza party. Getting to know some of C.'s neighbours better. Playing with the dogs.
Watching the first season of House of the Dragon together. I'm a Rhaenys fangirl now.
White Matcha chocolate. And the best snack: pecans, freeze dried strawberries and spelt flakes.
Going to the garden center with C.! I loved picking out plants for the empty corner in his garden.
Alone time. Feels so nice after spending a long time surrounded by people.
Finishing the sunrise decor on my kitchen cabinets. They turned out really lovely.
Re-folding all my clothes. Sorting them by type and colour.
Eating buckwheat for lunch and dinner.
A phone call with Ludwig. Learning about my crippling insecurity and the underlying fear. Paradoxically, insecurity is my safe space because it means inaction. I don't have to make a decision - which would come with the possibility of making a mistake. / The Lesson pt.II - I clicked on a random video to keep me company while eating cornflakes. It was, of course, on safety as THE basic human need. In my face.
Harvesting the first two tiny cucumbers on my balcony. The bush in front of my window in full bloom - thousands of tiny white blossoms.
Making myself a cup of herbal tea instead of aimless snacking, trying to meet an emotional need. It worked.
Activities with Lian: decorating pudding, folding origami Pokémon, playfights.
Finally grading the artworks from the final exam. Procrastination alarm.
Drawing my body now and in its desired state with Elena. Doing boundary exercises. Meeting my inner protector: a big fuzzy bear. Which made me think of Luki who like running around in dark brown sheep skin and radiates a very stable, secure energy.
Reaching a relative state of everything is as it should be in my apartment with hardly any loose threads.
A visit from Luna and her friend Jannik. Deep talk, hanging out in my bed.
The golden morning sun. The long days around summer solstice.

Wylan:
has a terrible dad and i think he strives with academic validationis an 80's kid who lovessssssss Nintendo, old music and record players, also collects casette tapes
He has an emotional support animal and he lovessss it
He has a casette player that he carries everywhere and he's had it since he was like 10 so you could tell bc he sticks a bunch of stickers on it and has his initials written on it (Jesper wrote his initials next to Wylan's and drew a heart around it)
I think we can all agree that he has autism
omg so Jesper gave Wylan's his pair of headphones (they're ok and they block out most stuff)
I think at some point Wylan kinda gave up trying to impress his father and was just chillin with Jes (they'd have a indie coming-of-age movie aesthetic)
Sometimes Jesper gives Wylan his old sweaters bc Wylan's dad didn't bother to buy him any. (Wylan wouldn't take it but Jesper said they were old sweaters and they didn't fit him anymore)
Kaz would leave Wylan small presents like shoes (nobody knows where Kaz got the money from…)
He's a band kid/ theatre nerd / Hamilton fan / Minecraft kid / and lovesssssss The Magnus Archives. His favourite podcast. Listens to it when he's nervous / also major science nerd
He loves to ramble about his day to JesperHe has like 100 fidget toys that he shares with Jesper
Likes to record everything and get it on a casette tape
If the spot is cozy he doesn't want to leave. Ever. Jesper has to pick him up to get him to leave and everything.
Jesper:
Instead of gambling he'd loveeeeeeeeee figurines and blind bags like this man was obsessed with it as a child and still is.
Jesper would be there on a scholarship (although they were a little hesitant bc he had ADHD but they saw how smart he was)
He'd be that one super hype kid who looks like he just put on whatever he found lying on the floor but it kinda slays?
Jesper has a piercing, or several.
That one kid who talks like an 8 year-old but is actually smart (like he always wings his presentations but still gets high marks??)
The type of kid who came from a hot place and whilst everyone is complaining about the heat he'd be chilling and go, "what? THis is nothign from where I came from. Y'all are babies."
Also the type of kid to put on 10000 sweaters and jackets as soon as it gets windy because he's not used to this kind of weather
I think he's never seen snow before, so he'd be super excited whenever he saw it and the teacher would even pause the class so he could go outside and touch snow (sobs)
He once nearly got kicked out/suspended for drug use because he put sugar in a packet for him to eat at school and they thought it was drugs. The second time he brought pills that if you put in water they turn into little jelly dinosaurs for you to play with…
Whenever he has a crush he'd make it super super obvious and would change his description to something like:
Current type: Rich anxious dyslexic kid with daddy issues.
that one kid who has a rather funky music taste and there's pauses and beats in all the weird places bc to him that kind of music hits that one spot in the back of his mind (same)
Gives Wylan a sticker whenever Wylan does a good job with something and Wylan gives Jesper free tutoring bc this man cannot sit still when he's learning boring stuff that he needs to pass.

I'm also sorry for the spacing bc otherwise i can't see what i'm writing PS: English is not my first language so please don't get mad or annoyed if I wrote anything wrong (EG: incorrect grammar/spelling). Kaz:
Kaz would have a prosthetic leg but he insists on taking a cane because oml this guy will be the drama queen.
I mean like every rumor started with this guy one way or another
He'd have beef with this one guidance councillor with a weird name called Pekking Rolling? Wait no Pekka Rollins.
Solely bc Pekka filed a report that kicked Jordie out of school and is that one teacher/guidance councillor that's super biased and tells kids they should give up on their dreams
Watches Dance moms, also a huge history nerd and lovesssssssssssss murder podcast.
I think he's not very close to his family as a child so he's a bit touch starved but also touch adversed at the same time
Especially after Jordie got kicked out
He'd love to open up to Inej but doesn't know how to
Is secretly a science and history nerd and when Inej found out she gifted him a stamp and Hamilton tickets that they went to watch together
He's super into photography and loves taking polaroids w Inej and his friends when they're out together
secretly an excellent singer and loves singing in the car with Inej
Inej:
that one kid who doesn't talk much but has dirt on everyone
Like she hears everything. and I mean EVERYTHING
that one kid to randomly dissapear and you're like where'd she go? how'd you move so fast?
Loves sparkly glitter pens as a kid and still secretly loves them (she also has markers that smell like yogurt)
sings her heart out in the car and lovesss road tripsssss (I think she'd be Mirren in we were liars tbh)
She is sugar, curiosity and rain (if yk yk)
Inej i think either does ice skating/ gymnastics / or aerial silk dancer and she's really good like she's won competitions.
collects pens.
Loves the radio, taylor swift and phoebe bridgers. You can't change my mind that Inej loves acoustics
Her favourite color is purple and she's lovely, like the cinnamon roll of the whole grade
like you cannot find a single student who hates her
was in a situation where she was s/a'ed as a kid and still flinches from touch sometimes
Overall she's healed most of it and she's still slowly healing as she helps Kaz heal too (omg *sobs*)
Loves Sweet Tooth (like the show)
I feel like in school she'd be the runner and Kaz would be on the bleachers cheering her on (or her timer guy)

Modern Conveniences Avatar Characters Would Like Most
Katara - Washing machine (I just watched a video on how long it took to wash clothing pre-washing machine and good grief... I think she wants this for everyone’s sake.)
Sokka - Machine tools (look, he’d like the security stuff, but once the War was over, I think he’d have been really into inventing stuff and it is amazing how much faster you can do things when you have machine tools)
Zuko - Streaming services, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, etc. (I’m going with the theatre lover Zuko here and I think he’d really like TV and movies. YES, I know it’s not the same as theatre, but I maintain that he’d like it.)
Aang - Cellphones, so he can stay in touch with friends around the world. (I wanted to say GPS, but let’s be honest, Sokka’s the one who wants Aang to have a GPS.)
Toph - Honestly, don’t know. I want to say video games, but she can’t actually play them (she’d probably recreate them in real life). And all of the aids that she could use for reading and stuff just seems redundant. She can have people read to her and... let’s be honest, that’s just things people do anyway. So, I want her to have something beyond “text to speech” reader... @ljf613 thoughts? You are my Toph go to. Edit: I have since been informed that there are video games for blind people/blind people can enjoy and now I feel very silly because of course there are. My mistake.
Suki - Taser. ...what? I think she’d love them! But... if I can’t pick that, I think she’d be really into some of the more complex VR games.
Mai - Phone/any music player with earbuds that she can hide under her hair. (She listens to music and podcasts when she’s bored.)
Ty Lee - Ziplines... Does that exist in Avatar’s world. Certainly. But I’m also thinking of all of the gimick-y flight/jumping things we have now that are probably safer than in Avatar’s world.
Azula - The Internet. I kinda of think she’d actually really like instant access to information (everything from science to MMA fights) and she’d also be addicted to becoming a social influencer (it’s a lot of power). Don’t think she’d be great at the second one but she’d have a pretty instant following...
And... that is a list off the top of my head. I’m kind of disappointed in myself for Sokka and Katara’s because I’m sure I could think of something more interesting... but... it felt right. And it was the beginning of my list.

I just finished listening to a 7 episode podcast series talking about the movie Cats and here's some quotes I enjoyed with no context:
"I saw Cats on the premiere night at (theatre whose name i forget)." "Oh shit, us too! We were the assholes that were screaming with laughter, clapping after songs, and gave a standing ovation at the end." "Wait, that was you!?"
"And after that I was really sick with the Corona virus - no, sorry, not the Corona virus, it was more the Heinekan virus, it wasn't as bad."
"Okay, so it's like you're being held at gunpoint right now and ordered to explain the plot of Cats. You have to have some kind of answer. Go." "And for our listeners, we are actually holding them at gunpoint, so you'd better make it fucking good."
"Hey, I'm Rum Tum Tugger and I like to fuck."
"Yeah, I found the lead cat to be pretty hot." "Does that make you uncomfortable?" "...Only if it was a real cat? I mean, I wouldn't be able to house-sit for you."
"So if you were Old Deutrenomy, would you have picked Grizabella to die?" "...Okay, would this be the time to admit that I was really high when I saw the movie?"
"Cats really works as like, a midnight movie. Everyone screams, sings along, applauds, and at the end we pick an audience member and ritually sacrifice them. It's great!"
"The visual effects in Cats are very much in the uncanny valley. The uncanny pussy, if you will."
"What's your favourite song?" "Uh, I really loved the opening Jellicle song." "Okay, follow up question: ~Are you blind when you're booorn~?"
"NOBODY KILLS ANYBODY IN CATS!" "I mean, I would argue they all killed Grizabella at the end."
"I played Rum Tum Tugger in a stage show, and it was really unfortunate, because Andrew Lloyd Webber apparently saw a rapper busking in London, really liked it, and so he re-wrote Rum Tum Tugger to be a street cat that raps most of his song. My costume involved a backwards hat that said 'CHAOS' on it. The dance break included airhorns every few seconds while I was spinning on my head and shit. This was in 2015."
"So if someone could just assassinate Hugh Jackman, I'd really appreciate it."
"Cats is like Australian Idol, but the judges kill you at the end." "...I would watch that."
"The Heaviside Layer is like, cat heaven. Pussy heaven." "...Fuck, we should've named this podcast Pussy Heaven, what the fuck were we thinking?"
"It's just too deep in the uncanny valley. It's like the uncanny Marianna's Trench."
"I think that the dogs in this world also have people faces, like all the cats, mice and cockroaches. And so the humans all have animal faces. It's only fair."
"You convinced me to go see the movie, and I fucking hated it. About 40 minutes in I texted you saying this is horrible, I have no idea what's going on-" "When I got your text I was going to reply with 'it all gets explained at the end' just to fuck with you, but then I thought about it, realized you'd definitely kill me, and deleted it."
"I never thought I wouldn't enjoy seeing Idris Elba looking mostly naked, but here we are."
"We tried to DM every single cast member to do a guest spot on our stupid podcast. We DM'd Rebel Wilson, James Cordon, Sir Ian McKellan - who does not check his DM's by the way - and almost everyone either didn't see the message or just left us on read. Steven McRae is the only one who responded."
"I show up on set that morning, go to my trailer, check the list of whose in the scene we're doing today and I see oh, it's Rebel Wilson, James Cordon, Taylor Swift, Idris Elbra, Dame Judy Dench, Sir Ian McKellan... and Steven McRae. Nobody warned me in advance. I honestly didn't believe it at first, I thought I was being pranked."
"I was wearing bright red suspenders, of course I knew I wasn't in a serious movie."
"So for three days in a row we all got to spend twelve hours just sitting around on set watching Sir Ian McKellan monologue. It was amazing."
"I'd never sung before. Ever. And they couldn't decide if they wanted Skimbleshanks to be Scottish or Northern, so I had to learn all these new accents, and learn how to sing in them, which just made it harder. Then the first time I had to sing on set, it was directly in front of Dame Judy Dench herself. Just in case I wasn't under enough pressure already."

hello this is my official list of what i think every member of the bau would work with if they wouldn't work at the bau like if that wasn't a reality you get me
——
Jason Gideon: look i know this is technically canon but i truly do think he would be an author and would guest lecture a bit in his later years and like sure he could still write true crime books but also just regular crime novels i think this old man would just like to write
Jennifer "JJ" Jareau: i think she would work inside of the media, not in front of the camera necessarily but as a communicator or similarly inside of the media and the news. however i think there's a possibility of a divergence of path for her, i think its possible she could end up in a hostage situation due to her job in a similar situation like in neon terror and would start working out as a coping mechanism and like genuinely would pick up a (extra?) job as a personal trainer at her gym
Derek Morgan: firefighter. that's it i don't know what to say other than that, derek would 500% be a firefighter. there's nothing else. now that i think about it derek should've been a firefighter from the beginning fuck the bau this is his true calling don't even @ me
Elle Greenaway: similarly to JJ i think elle would work inside of the media but as an investigative journalist. well i think she would start out as a regular journalist but become an investigative journalist after a while because her drive would be too big you get me. also niche but i think that when she was a teen she was like briefly a singer like you know robin from how i met your mother but she would've made angry girl music
Aaron "Hotch" Hotchner: genuinely don't think this punk could stay away from the government so i think he would still work a fancy government job just not inside of the bau, maybe not even the fbi but i so think he'd still be in government. now what i have no idea because i know nothing about the government especially the american government seeing as im not even remotely american
David "Dave" Rossi: now i don't even know if this fucking counts but you know those really fancy shops that are like made of dark smelling wood and is called something extravagant with a cursive gold font and they sell like cigar or wine or herbal products or like mustache wax or whatever the fuck you know the places im talking about. i think rossi would work there and be that old man at the counter who will come up and talk to you and you have no idea if he just works there and is really invested in this stuff or if he owns the place or just a really weird costumer but then he's the one you pay too so you assume it's his but the moment you step out of the store you've forgotten his face and you never want to go back there but you always think about it once a month or something. if you don't know what kinda place im talking about consider yourself lucky
Penelope Garcia: if the bau wasn't even a prospect here there's no question that penelope would still be a hacker illegally and make most of her money from there but i also think that she would work in a small second hand shop with lots of old trinkets and clothes and stuff just because she genuinely thinks it's fun to work there and also the old woman who owns the shop lets her be on the computer when there's no costumers in the store. i just think she would sit there in her cupcake dress next to a ceramic old cat from the 1930s talking to bernice about her grandson while hacking jeff bezos on her computer
Spencer Reid: now it's time for spencer all over the place reid who i think would work at like one of those really prestige but still public libraries where like everyone is welcome but they have like locked rooms with super valuable books and stuff and he kinda does whatever there bc sometimes he gives tours talking about thr history of the building and stuff and sometimes you find him at the counter ready to guide you to the specific book you're looking for plus twenty other recommendations you should read if you like this book and sometimes you find him in a window reading and his coworkers politely ignore he's had his "break" for three hours now bc he guided 17 tours yesterday (only ten were scheduled) and they suspect he mightve slept here. plus in his spare time i think he would do some independent work to keep him stimulated with stuff but that's not a fully developed idea yet
Stephen Walker: this might be controversial but i think stephen would be a guidance counsellor at like a school and i don't know why but he has the vibe and i think he would be quite good at it. maybe he just gives me more official jawbone vibes from dimension 20
Emily Prentiss: i firmly believe this woman cannot hold down a job for her life. i think the bau and interpol were flukes in her reality because im quite certain emily would physically not be able to keep one job for longer than a year. if you mention a job she's probably done it. she's done everything from high positions in government to bagging groceries to leading seminars to breeding puppies. listen emily prentiss is a lesbian ex goth trust fund kid (like canonically yall). i think right now she's working with the lights for a theatre production and she's liking it and seems to have a knack for it
Tara Lewis: this one's out there but i think she would work as a principal at a university (do universities have principals?). but like the one who's in charge of a school but like advanced studies with like adults study after they've already studied if you know what i mean. idk i just think that's what she would be
Luke Alvez: hate to do this to luke but he would simply just be a cop. or like a detective (that's like a promotion for a cop in america right? bro my knowledge extends to brooklyn 99 and brooklyn 99 only). i hope this is because i feel like luke is the serious crime version of jake peralta and jake is the sitcom version of luke. anyway, cop
Matt Simmons: this is my magnum opus but bro i think he would be a podcaster. i think he would do a podcast with kristy. for everyone who follows my blog think justin and sydnee mcelroy but matt is sydnee. i think they would have a little podcast together. after his unit at the fbi (?) got got by linda barnes i think he would retire home and start doing podcasting full time with kristy. this is my hot take
Kate Callahan: because such a central part of kate's personality/backstory is that her sister died in 9/11 i think that kate would've been a nurse. specifically a nurse not a doctor and i don't think it's because a lack of competence or anything like that fuck u no i genuinely think kate wanted to be a nurse and chose to study to become that. her hours would still be crazy but maybe meg isn't as worried about her now
Ashley Seaver: i don't have a lot for seaver but i think she would work in local government more centralised like those guys from parks and rec and yes i realise ive made way too many references that some people might not understand but here we are. i think seaver would do whatever leslie does in parks and rec or something like that
Alex Blake: this is just a formality to have her on here because she's literally a linguistics professor in the show

🎮🐶💻🎧💯
🎮 — favorite video game(s)?
I fucking LOVE the Jak and Daxter games. Exept that one which shall not be named because it is not Jak and Daxter. I first played the third, then the second, then Jak X, and THEN the first one rofl
I also absolutely adore WildStar (press F to pay respects), it had such a stunning combination of whimsy, fantasy, and grime, with a sprinkle of vibrant horror. And I have yet to find a game with as fun of a player housing system or building things in general, people m ade some of the most phenomenal shit like, entire cities. It was my favourite part of the game-- kinda what I spent most of my time there on wHOOPS.
I'm also a big fan of World of Warcraft but I've not played it in over a year now. Been missing it something awful lately and it's caused some internal arguments.
🐶 — any pets?
At my apartment my roommates have two cats, Phil and Steve; phil is a sweet lil brown tabby who's on the skittish side, and steve is a most clever and handsome orange + white tabby.
My cats Nicodemus and Delilah (Nicky being a Very large and lovey dovey black cat and Delilah a very conniving but precious little black n white kitty), and my dog Elorah who is a husky-catahoula mix, all live with my mother and stepdad, and they also have an albino corn snake that everyone but me calls Salazar. I call it Cupcake. Have since day one. Nobody was on board.
I'm planning in the near future for a creepy crawly pet. The original plan was for a rose haired tarantula but the terrarium I managed to get isn't ideal for a ground spider. So I'm going to be on the look out soon for some other litol creachers. Once I do have a spider though, I'm naming it Puppy.
💻 — how many friends have you made in the rpc? feel free to tag a few of them!
Oh man I am bad at math..... A lot! I've made all kinds of acquaintances, and a few folks I'm getting familiar with enough to chat with much easy-like. :D to name some:
@beenwaitingtoolong is my homie G, we yowl at each other all the time and she sends me some dope memes n viddyas n music 👌
@kamchatkatraitor and I have schemed and plotted some together, and I appreciate her resolve to reach out to others.
AND YOU @smalltownbcy, you and I too are schemesters and memesters, I am Loving Mike and Dustin's tomfoolery and misery alike. You've nspired me to get back into doodling like I used to, and if you'd permit i would like to draw the boys and their nonsense.
🎧 — do you write while listening to music/podcasts/videos/etc, or do you need total silence?
Ooooooo I need my AMBIENCE. If I'm rping or otherwise writing stories, planning games/worldbuilding, drawing... I'm probably listening to whatever song particular I feel at the time has the right vibes. Possibly on repeat, or a few I cycle through over and over. Dustin's playlist is on any time I'm writing him. I usually also need just, in general, some kind of background noise of both audio and visual, so the TV is on often too. Silence is how we find the heavy metal mariachi bands.
💯 — share three random facts about yourself that your mutuals may not know about you.
01 : I worked as an actor in haunted houses starting from age 16 til roughly age 21, and did amateur theatre prior, during, and afterwards. I'd love to get back into theater, but I reeaaally want to voice act. If I don't get to either voice act, OR play Judge Frollo in a stage adaptation of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, I WILL finish the job on that fuckin church 🔥🪓👀
02 : I am an amateur scientist. My favourite fields to study are entomology, genetics, microbiology/pathology, and psychology. I want to know everything. Some things I study because they're special interests, some I study to better understand my own self and conditions, and be able to help others with similar struggles as me. All I want in life is to learn, help others, and make good food at a warm hearth, with all the comforts of home. And a lotta moths.
03 : My synesthesia causes vivid imagery and motion from music very frequently, it's a HUGE boost in my motivation and muse. I'd like to some day do animated depictions of what I see when listening to certain songs. This is also why I do better creatively while listening to music. It also makes me hate a lot of other noises. 🙃 and the number 5 needs to stop laughing already.

Movies I watched in July
Once again I’m doing my monthly round-up of movies I’ve watched. This was a good month for the cinema getting back on track and seeing new releases including the new M. Night movie, Old and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Pretty sure Marvel put out a new movie also. I’m hoping that this list can help in guiding a decision about what to watch (or what to avoid) and introduce people to movies they may otherwise not have heard of or bothered to see. These short reviews are my own subjective opinions on each individual movie and maybe a more informal approach to movie criticism can help include others who are just passing through. Here is every film I watched from the 1st to the 31st of July.
Bridesmaids (2011) - 4/10
Off to a good start. I won’t say Bridesmaids is a terrible movie but I don’t think I’m exactly the target audience. As far as I know, this is a beloved comedy but I just can’t get on board with all the boring, juvenile humour; with Maya Rudolph shitting in the street, with Rose Byrne and Kristen Wiig trying to one-up each other at a toast that went on forever, with Melissa McCarthy shitting in a sink… the conflict is so done to death and makes the movie feel unspecial. I do understand the appeal of the film, especially for women in that before this movie the likelihood of seeing something like this, where women play up the more crass and gross side of comedy, was probably few and far between. But the story is very tired and while I did appreciate some moments, namely a couple of decent jokes and some of the more intimate scenes, for the most part it felt like they wanted to corner a more quiet type of line delivery in a way that was supposed to be understated but very funny so as to not rely on over the top body language or musical cues, and it ended up being super dull.
Tumblr media
Spectre (2015) - 7/10
As far as I can tell, a lot of people don’t like this instalment of the James Bond franchise… but I really enjoyed it! I’ve really taken a shine to these Daniel Craig-era Bond movies and while I can’t say any of them are the most amazing thing, I have a lot of fun with them. The biggest problem I have with Spectre is the villain being utterly pointless and uninteresting in basically every way. The idea of every villain Bond has fought before being tied to this one organisation controlled by this one guy is ridiculous, and what makes it worse is that the villain is barely in it! There’s so much that doesn’t come together in this but as it goes, I still had a really good time. Daniel Craig holds the whole thing together; he is excellent as 007 and the main reason I’m up for each of these movies is because of him. Sam Mendes directs again after the previous instalment and for what it’s worth I do think he does a good job with some of the action set pieces and the locations. I’m so ready for No Time To Die.
Shazam (2019) - 7/10
Shazam is a genuinely fun superhero movie that doesn’t take itself seriously at all. I was having a great time throughout and while it could conform to some of the same tropes we’re used to with these kinds of movies, it still remained playful and used the character of Shazam to his fullest potential in a way that showed an understanding of just how silly the idea of a kid who can turn into an adult and shoot lightning out of his hands is.
High School Musical (2006) - 6/10
So as you may or may not know, I co-host a podcast: The Sunday Movie Marathon. It’s a film podcast and every week I get together with my other co-hosts and watch movies. For episode 38, we watched the High School Musical trilogy. This first movie blew me away. I was really surprised with just how much fun I had, and if you want to hear more of my thoughts on the film, please listen to episode 38 of the podcast.
High School Musical 2 (2007) - 4/10
We then jumped into the second and while it’s certainly not as good as its predecessor, there are still some brilliant songs that manage to top the last movie. Again, more of what I have to say can be heard on episode 38 of the podcast.
Tumblr media
High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008) - 3/10
Senior Year was pretty hard to get through. I don’t remember it being as bad as it was, but then I didn’t really remember it anyway. It did however have one redeeming quality, which you can discover on episode 38 of the podcast.
The Piano Teacher (2001) - 9/10
What the fuuuckkkk. The Piano Teacher is horrendously affecting and I was so upset when it ended, maybe not because it’s not what I wanted but because it’s just so fucking dour and unrelenting. This is the second Haneke movie I’ve seen (after the original Funny Games) and I’m so impressed with how well executed it is. Following a woman who teaches piano, we get a glimpse into the life she lives, how sheltered she is from living with her mother at an age where you’d reasonably expect a person to be living alone or with a partner or friends (even going so far as to be sleeping in the same bed as her), and how repressed she is sexually. It’s clear she’s never experienced any kind of sexual interaction or romantic love with another person, so she goes out of her way to take control and make that happen. The upsetting nature of it comes from just what she does in pursuit of it or as a result of her repression, and what is done to her. It is by no means a movie to recommend to your parents but The Piano Teacher offers so much in terms of the ideas it presents (and I’ll admit there seems to be a lot more going on than I think I picked up on a first go round) about women in modern society, and about the portrayal of sex and expectations of people when it comes to how that is represented in a person’s character depending on their gender. I really enjoyed this movie but it is not for the faint of heart.
Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure (2011) - 1/10
My podcast co-hosts decided it’d be a right laugh to add Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure to this episode and that might have been a fun idea for them because they got to watch it together, but I was just watching it alone. Just a 24-year-old man watching Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure alone and having a miserable time, I might add. But for a short and sweet ramble on what we all thought, please listen to episode 38 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast.
Dr. No (1962) - 6/10
A lot of very iffy parts of this movie. A lot of discomfort arising from how black people are portrayed that really didn’t sit right with me. As far as a Bond movie goes, this first instalment in the series is one I’ve seen before and it’s not wholly engaging but it plants the seeds for the rest, with Sean Connery breathing life into the role and making an otherwise lacklustre plot bearable.
Tumblr media
Black Widow (2021) - 6/10
I think probably the best part about Black Widow is the experience I had while watching it. It was great being back in the cinema with a couple of friends in a packed theatre. The energy was high and I’m sure for a lot of people, this is the first time they’d been to the cinema since Endgame. For what it’s worth, I did have a lot of fun with Black Widow and I’ve explained more of what I thought about the movie in episode 39 of the podcast.
The Climb (2020) - 10/10
The Climb was added to Now TV recently and I already knew I loved it, having seen it in an empty cinema theatre last year, which I had an absolute blast with. The Climb details the years of a rocky friendship told over scenes filmed as one-shots. Not only is the presentation something to gawk at, but the performances by the two leads playing these friends with a terrifically dysfunctional dynamic is truly captivating. They’re both trying to figure out their own lives and where one can come across as being rather selfish, the opposite is true in his counterpart, whom everyone loves. This is a truly funny and heartwarming movie with a lot to say about how we choose to live our lives and who we choose to be with. It’s a shame the distributors of The Climb didn’t do a very good job because if not for it being available on Now TV, it would be near impossible to watch without forking out more money than is necessary to purchase a film.
From Russia With Love (1963) - 5/10
The second Bond movie. I thought perhaps I’d change my mind on it with another watch, having seen it for the first time maybe a year ago. But no, it’s still largely boring and it treats women like absolute garbage. From Russia With Love is one of those movies I forget as I watch it, and I was trying very hard (in the middle of the day!) not to fall asleep.
The Good, The Bart, and The Loki (2021) - 1/10
I don't usually talk about the short films I watch but for this I'll make an exception. As we all should know, Disney owns The Simpsons now, through their acquisition of Fox, so, coupled with another of their properties, that being Marvel, they decided to make a six-minute animated film wherein Marvel’s Loki is stranded in Springfield. This felt as though it was a minute long due to the horrendously jarring pacing; it is a movie that feels adamant that it needs to exist, while trying as hard as it can to be over as soon as possible. It serves only to stare the audience directly in the face and say “look, characters from The Simpsons are dressed as Avengers”, shit out three credit scenes, then end before you’ve even processed the atrocity you just bore witness to.
Tumblr media
Russian Ark (2002) - 8/10
For this next episode of the podcast, we watched a few Russian movies, starting with Russian Ark, a film shot completely in one take as the camera moves about a luxurious museum in a first-person perspective as this main character watches what is happening around him, seeing people moving about the place but unable to interact with them, guided only by another man who seems to be just slightly out of his own perception of reality. This is a tremendous feat in filmmaking and more can be heard about what I have to say in episode 39 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast.
Ivan’s Childhood (1962) - 7/10
For my own pick of Russian movies to discuss on the podcast, I chose the debut feature from one of my favourite directors, Andrei Tarkovsky. It’s amazing that while this is not his best film by far, Ivan’s Childhood is still such a stellar debut, jumping around in its timeline as it details a child’s experience in the second world war. Again, I do go into more depth in episode 39 of the podcast, so be sure to check that out.
Outlaw (2019) - 1/10
The third movie chosen for this marathon is apparently the fourth Russian LGBTQ+ movie ever made. I’m unsure of the ultimate goal of this movie but what seems to be clear is that it hates the LGBTQ+ community. This is perhaps the worst film we’ve discussed on the podcast to date, so listen to episode 39 to understand exactly why it’s such trash.
Almost Famous (2000) - 7/10
I too love heavy music and also studied journalism so it stands to reason that a movie about a teenager who makes his way onto a band tour, following them through America and interviewing them as they hang out and play shows is going to be a premise that resonates with me. This certainly did. I enjoyed Almost Famous a lot; this kid is living the dream and I was so along for the ride, seeing a lot of myself in what was being portrayed. That said, the story itself is at times a bit by the numbers and I really would’ve been more on board if the visual component was more interesting. For what it is, technically it’s fine enough but nothing in that department ever jumped out at me.
Tumblr media
Minari (2021) - 8/10
It’s crazy that this didn’t get a theatrical run where I live in the UK. It feels as though I complain about film distribution all the time but I really don’t understand the process by which a movie gets no cinematic release and yet, months later will pop up on the front shelf of hmv, taking pride of place. But of course I got the blu-ray straight away. Minari has a lot to say about the immigrant experience, specifically in America as a family comes over from Korea and tries to start a business and make something of themselves. You get to see a lot of what you might not think twice about when you think about immigration: the hardship of coming from a place where you know everyone to somewhere rural and sparsely populated, having to make friends with locals and integrate within the community; the strain it can put on a family and on a marriage where this idea is presented about the importance of making it on your own in order to live and not just survive, while also taking into account why you’re doing it in the first place and the value you place on being part of a family that you decided to make because that was more important than money, than economy, than proving you were good enough to make it in a place that gave you very little advantage from the offset. This concept of the promised land, of the American dream is a construct. There are times when it’s not pretty, when you have no running water, or you’re in debt, or a family member is dying and it just feels like you’ve been dealt as bad a hand as you can get. But it is better to know you’re not facing all that alone.
Roma (2018) - 10/10
This was my recommendation for the podcast episode on Alfonso Cuarón movies. Roma is as beautiful as it is heart-wrenching and I would recommend listening to episode 40 of the podcast to find out more about my thoughts.
An American Werewolf In London (1981) - 8/10
In all fairness, London is enough to make anyone a little crazy at the best of times. An American Werewolf in London showcases some fantastically grotesque effects, akin to something like Carpenter’s The Thing, in showing the dead brought back to life and a horrifically gory transformation scene. Although the film is from the perspective of an American protagonist, directed also by an American, the depiction of British culture and climate is something I’ve not seen many films pull off quite so well, and I was pleasantly surprised at the more comedic tone the film has overall, which is something that works more in its favour than straight horror would.
The Party’s Just Beginning (2018) - 6/10
Karen Gillan’s directorial debut is… pretty good! There are a lot of ideas I like in this movie: a woman living life and through convenient circumstances, is confronted with death in many ways. Gillan obviously knows her homeland as well as she can, imbuing the whole thing with an intensely Scottish vibe (though maybe not in the same vein as something like Trainspotting) that makes it a bit more unique than a more run of the mill movie of this ilk, backed up in no small part by her own main performance. The plot itself is no great diversion from the kind of story I’m used to with these smaller movies and for something that’s trying to include messaging about transgender issues and suicide, it probably could have been handled better or done in a different way.
Tumblr media
Solaris (1972) - 9/10
Another Tarkovsky joint, one I thought I’d revisit to see if there was indeed more to get out of it a second time. Well, it’s no surprise that yes, there was certainly more to get out of it. Solaris is a crazy trip of a movie and I would liken it to Kubrick’s 2001 in terms of how grand the scale of it feels. Yet this is a film that comes across as deeply personal, choosing to focus on a specific character as he goes to a space station to help those on board who are experiencing some kind of emotional crises, only to feel the effects of the planet, Solaris invading his own mind as it has the crew. To many, I can see this lengthy Russian sci-fi being a tad slow but my personal experience is one of deep engagement. Solaris pulls its viewer in a lot of different directions and it is always doing something unexpected in terms of where its narrative goes. There’s a lot to think about with the movie and thankfully it’s no chore to watch again.
Y Tu Mamá También (2001) - 9/10
Another recommendation for the podcast episode on Alfonso Cuarón movies. This is a very relaxed experience, following three young people as they go on a road trip, visit different places and have sex. Listen to episode 40 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast for more of my thoughts.
Children of Men (2006) - 10/10
My favourite Cuarón movie, one that never stops being tense as its characters are constantly moving towards the end goal. Set in a future where humans are infertile, the oldest living person is 18, and London is the last city in the world that’s still keeping it together, somewhat. This is masterclass filmmaking. Listen to episode 40 of the podcast for more insights.
Minority Report (2002) - 5/10
I’m really not the biggest fan of Spielberg… Minority Report is an interesting movie in terms of its concept of stopping crimes before they happen by way of prediction, but I just didn’t connect with the heart of it. The colouring is way too overexposed in a way that’s supposed to be eliciting a futuristic vibe but instead feels so early-2000’s in the worst way. My biggest problem with Minority Report is just how long it is, clocking in at two hours and twenty-five minutes which allows for a lot of meandering, all while never quite developing characters enough for you to care about.
Tumblr media
Caché (2005) - 9/10
Oh god! Another Michael Haneke movie! Here we see a couple periodically sent video tapes featuring hours of footage of the outside of their house. The anxiety ratchets up and the mystery gets deeper with every minute. There’s always at least one moment in any of his films that have so far made me realise just how out of my depth I am. Caché is no exception, and I won’t spoil anything here because I think it’s better just to watch the movie and see for yourself. He is a director that wants the audience to know something and that something is never what is explicitly shown at face value; it is pressed into the fabric of the film - plainly evident, yet hidden. Caché is so stupidly clever in displaying its themes and messaging - making reference to the Siene Massacre of 1961 as well as a deeper study of colonialism - and there’s no way to change a single detail of it without risking the Jenga tower crumbling to the ground. It all works in tandem. It is passion and fury and haunting.
Coco (2017) - 7/10
Pixar had a string of around seven forgettable movies before this point so thankfully Coco emerged to show the company still had something good in them. Coco deals a lot with themes of death and legacy, remembering those who are gone in order to preserve them and while its plotting is quite basic and there are certainly moments that either drag or cannot escape the same Pixar formula, most of what the movie has to offer is a lot of fun, with creative, colourful animation and emotional beats that resonate the way they’re supposed to.
Incredibles 2 (2018) - 5/10
Oh, they almost had it! There's a lot here that could have been explored in far more interesting ways. Setting Incredibles 2 directly after the events of the first movie was not a good idea. If it had taken place five or ten years after, the characters could have been in different places in life and it would feel as though they'd actually changed and developed. But instead of trying to be a film that actually cares about its characters and the journeys they go on, a lot of the film is wrestling with the idea that Bob isn't supportive of his wife and Jack-Jack has to fight a raccoon… They have to shoehorn in a villain that in no way compares to the genius of the original. The ending of the original introduces another antagonist that gets wrapped up within this film's first ten minutes, except they don't catch him and he's never mentioned again. It's a real shame because the animation is fantastic and the acting is superb and there are great ideas sprinkled throughout. It just doesn't come together.
Toy Story 4 (2019) - 6/10
I was rather reluctant to watch Toy Story 4 because from the get-go I’m not really here for sequels being made just for the sake of it. Everyone loves Toy Story and making another one is a sure fire way to make money. This is the first time I’ve seen Toy Story 4 and for what it’s worth, I did enjoy it. The animation is immaculate and that alone feels like a huge flex from Pixar who tend to step up the game when it comes to animation in film, despite not having the best track record for films generally at this point. While it was nice to see these characters again, I found a lot of them to be side-lined (namely Buzz) in favour of a story that focuses mainly or entirely on Woody, who I just don’t like as much as in the previous movies. Generally the movie is good and decent enough but there’s no real antagonist and the plot is quite loose… it doesn’t feel as though it needed to be made from a story point of view.
Tumblr media
Onward (2020) - 6/10
And with that I have seen every Pixar movie. And Onward is a fine one to go out on. While I don’t think it compares to the likes of earlier Pixar it’s still pretty fun. Or maybe I’m just a sucker for a medieval setting filled with bright colours and magic! Speaking of which, the animation was super and the medieval quest element is something that hooked me with the film. Again, plot-wise it does feel very familiar and I don’t know, maybe I’m past the point now of expecting Pixar to mix it up where their formula for story-telling is concerned but the movie is quite predictable. Nonetheless, while I’m not rushing back to see Onward I would hardly turn it off or refuse if someone wanted to watch it.
Old (2021) - 3/10
Oh boy! New M. Night movie dropped and my word, was it fun! For more of my thoughts on this… masterpiece (?) of a movie, please direct your attention to episode 41 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast.
T2 Trainspotting (2017) - 5/10
Trainspotting is perhaps one of my favourite movies and I had never bothered with the sequel, 20 years on, because the ending of that first movie is so conclusive. T2 felt more an excuse for these guys to get together again and in that, I probably would have preferred a couple of pictures on Twitter of the main cast and director, Danny Boyle having dinner or something. This is a fine movie - very arty in its presentation but meandering and dull in its story that doesn’t offer much in the way of proof that it had to exist.
Taste of Cherry (1997) - 9/10
What makes life worth living? This is a central question and theme of Taste of Cherry, and one that leaves such interpretation not only up to its central character but to the viewer as well. This film got me thinking about times in my life when I truly have had no answer to hard questions. Because it’s hard to convince people of things they are so adamantly against and harder still to rationalise what you believe if you’re not even entirely sure why you believe it in the first place. We are all of us alive and in recognising that, does that make it precious? And if indeed living is not a happy thing, why then should we fight so hard to preserve it? I felt upset as I watched this movie because I’ve been asked these kinds of questions before and it makes me feel stupid when I’m unable to answer. But the only real answer I can give is, everything. And if you can’t see the point then you’re not looking hard enough. Taste of Cherry is beautiful in its exploration of these topics and in its overall presentation, offering some of the best visuals in any movie I’ve seen - fitting for a feature with so much to say about the beauty of life - and an ending that as much pulls the rug out from under you as it does pull you out of the dark and make you realise just how lonely you’ve felt.
Tumblr media
Bones (2001) - 2/10
Snoop Dogg is Jimmy Bones! This film is super funny but I’m not sure it’s trying to be and I really didn’t love it overall. But I do talk more in depth about it in episode 41 of the podcast.
The Duchess (2008) - 5/10
Another recommendation for the podcast. The Duchess was pretty much exactly what I thought it was going to be and there’s a lot to like about it but generally it’s a bit sparse. For more chat on the movie, listen to episode 41 of the podcast.
The Man With One Red Shoe (1985) - 1/10
This was another one for the podcast and man, was it awful. We had to watch it at 1.5x speed towards the end because it just wasn’t getting finished otherwise. To find out more, make sure to listen to episode 41 of the podcast.
The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) - 7/10
Pull the lever, Kronk! Haha! Slays me. I do quite miss this era of Disney, where the animation was hand-drawn and the stories were actually compelling and funny. The Emperor’s New Groove is vibrant, it’s got great characters and memorable moments that will forever be ingrained in the memory of culture. All in all, it’s just a solid flick that doesn’t waste time, developing the standard fall from glory type of arc but smoothly and in an entertaining way.
The Suicide Squad (2021) - 8/10
Oh, bloody hell! They actually made a good one! The Suicide Squad is not only better than the ‘Suicide Squad’ of 2016 in every way, it’s a genuinely great film! This time, James Gunn (director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies) is at the helm and it seems clear that Warner Bros. basically let him do what he wanted with the movie, as it doesn’t seem to bog itself down with the restrictions of a more family-friendly rating. The result of this is a far cleaner, colourful film with a clearer vision that takes from early Vietnam movies and uses that style to craft a superhero/villain movie that differentiates itself among the copious amount of existing films of the genre.      The Suicide Squad wastes very little time, introducing fun, crazy characters we’ve not seen on the big screen before and isn’t worried about killing a whole bunch of them, with standouts being Elba’s Bloodsport, Melchior’s Ratcatcher 2, Stallone’s King Shark (expertly rendered with fantastic visual effects), and Robbie’s returning interpretation of Harley Quinn.      A lot of Gunn’s trademark sense of humour is laced throughout and more often than not, it hits. The audience at the cinema were truly loving this movie and I’ll admit, I was right there with them. This mix of the gritty, gory and absurd is not something that should work as well as it does but the basic premise of the film is already so silly (and boy, do they know it) that it just works! Certainly one of the best DC movies since The Dark Knight and one I’d be more than happy to watch again. This is what the modern comic book movie should be: just balls to the wall fun!

part 2~
I finally actually read all of pride and prejudice, it was great everyone was right lol. also I made character playlists for it for sara’s bday but I also just like them
speaking of playlists. ingrid and I went back to working on our narrative playlist project and we are now hopelessly invested in it lol. all of the playlists are done as of last week but more things to come. also I put together a box of props based on the characters for ingrid’s bday but also for me (are you sensing a theme lmao)
I wrote a song!!! I have always wanted to and never succeeded but I did do it and I think it’s good. I probably won’t ever do anything with it but it exists. maybe in 30 years I’ll write another one. or maybe sooner if we do our OLS thing
we went to a couple of Musical Mondays at a theatre near us and sang in their open mic competitions (and didn’t win but it was fun)
I thought last year was concert year but this was truly concert year. concerts I saw this year: lucius w/ingrid & my mom which was CRAZY good and we were super close and then they came into the crowd and stood right in front of us, aly & aj with ingrid, muna in atlanta which was my first time going to a concert alone (it was still fun but I prefer not going alone), twice in atlanta with shannen and ingrid, black midi with ingrid/sara/sara’s dad lol, and tessa violet w ingrid and the people we made friends with in the crowd (this one was also really small and cool). we started listening to chappell roan like the week she was in orlando and it was already sold out rip. also darren came to orlando but I didn’t go to that either bc it was his christmas show and I don’t care
I lost my beloved yellow water bottle in an airport :’(
I feel like I didn’t really go feral over any tv/movies this year? we watched not dead yet and taskmaster but idk there weren’t any new-to-me shows that I got super into. I was underwhelmed by barbie…. nimona was good and I’m glad it exists but it didn’t Hit Me the way I think it hit other people
one of my parasocial relationships got to the point where even I was like ok this needs to stop
on the flip side my other parasocial relationship is going great on bluesky lmao
my sister was in indonesia the whole year! :o I miss her a lot! in september we were the depression bros
I saw snow for the first time!! we went on a roadtrip to virginia and north carolina to see friends
got addicted to fb marketplace and got 2 new armchairs (and the infusion tea couch)
ingrid and I took spanish in the fall but the teacher was bad so I didn’t learn very much spanish
our roommate stayed for a second year, she is chill
shannen moved farther away :( but we still got to hang out
we did 2 friend group powerpoint parties
I guess I can’t not say it…. the eras tour took over my entire social media feed which first gave me fomo and then it was fine and then annoying but it did make me start talking to hannah and now we are friends outside of ingrid :)
also this was My Year for taylor’s versions, speak now and 1989 are The Ones (even tho I don’t prefer the new versions)
ingrid and shannen FINALLY finished corey & sherlock. and I read it and it was fun despite also being A Time because it fell during my depression month rip
rory was born!! the first baby in my Vicinity in a looong time
obligatory bullet point for muna bc I love them… I’m still not a podcast person but I listened to so much gayotic this year. yeehaw silk is my roman empire
saved it for the end: my goal in 2023 was to write a lot of my rough draft and I did it! we went to see manatees, we went to st augustine multiple times, I read seasons of real florida & braiding sweetgrass (until I had to return it to the library lol) and I researched weaving and made a connection through an infodump match blog and drew an insanely detailed castle map… working on this book is occasionally stressful but mostly it’s just fun!
did a lot of writing in the beginning of the year and then stagnated for a while and then I was looking for a distraction from work hell and rainbow convinced me to do nanowrimo on a whim and I completed it!
I was in a writing group with someone I used to rp with on forums when I was like 13. WILD
anyway 2023 was a lot but a lot of good things happened too. I hope this year to stress less about work and just focus on what I can control, like my house and my book etc. my mom keeps saying “ready for what’s in store in 2024” so I made up a mcelroy year title for her which is “20 what’s in store: the adventure awaits”. personally idk if I want an adventure this year so I’m sticking with fungalore hearing my wish to get a lot of writing done. if you made it this far I hope you have a year of human connection, restful sleep, and good snacks. peace and love <3
I was gonna be like "would you believe it's my 10th one of these" but apparently tumblr has a CHARACTER LIMIT now????? why would they nerf me on the year I decided not to worry about how long it was
anyway I guess I'm splitting this in 2 so reflections on 2023 part one~
let's start with work bc then I want to be done with it: I spent all year doing trainings (& 2 conferences) and researching and preparing to apply for an advisor position if it ever opened up. it did open up in spring, I applied and did not get it, the new advisor was not good and got fired, I applied again having done much more training and still did not get it, I applied for a different advisor position trying to triumphantly leave my office and did not get that either. so now I’m still in my same position working under the person who beat me for the job but this time with a bunch of extra responsibility that I gave myself trying to prep to be promoted. lol. if I sound very bitter it’s because I am :))))
all that being said, I do still mostly like my job from day to day. and I still want to do advising, probably. if they’ll ever hire me for it
related to work but less bitter: I had mostly good relationships with my coworkers. one of them was pregnant for a lot of the year and just had her baby last week and I’m very excited to meet her (we went to her baby shower despite all her friends being Very Christian lol it was a time) (this coworker is uhhhh A Lot but it’s complicated lol). I got to be on the hiring committee for another coworker which was a cool experience and also she is very nice. got closer with another coworker who I previously had kind of a tenuous relationship with (and now she works fully remote so it doesn’t even matter) (jk)
another thing I did in my quest to Be Hireable was basically take over supervising the student leaders (work study students) at work. shoutout to esteban, isa, aar and sheri lol
I have inherited my mother’s trait of getting attached to problem children. there are several students who are a recurring Thorn In My Side but also I’m rooting for them
last work thing that is only tangentially a work thing: I became the advisor for GSA at my campus and now I have a bunch of queer college students under my wing. a few of us walked in pride which was my first time being in the parade and it was wild. also we had an event for trans awareness week and I am proud of them for coming up with it :)) more exciting things to come this year. feels good to have a little corner where I can provide support in the face of so many attacks from the FL govt
let’s get the other big bad thing out of the way! my mental health was shit lol. I briefly was doing virtual appointments with a therapist in the spring but it mostly just made me feel weird and untherapizable. (as in, I didn’t feel like I was getting much out of it but I think part of that was that it was zoom calls from my car on my phone during lunch breaks) although it did lead to me leaving my phone outside of the bedroom at night and putting timers on my apps which I think have been net positives even if they haven’t made as much of a difference as I hoped.
the aforementioned job stress was a huge part of it, the application process lasted like 2 months and then they left me on the hook after the interview for Multiple Weeks which was. a bad time.
another part of it was I was alone a lot on weekends and I’m not very good at using my time off to do fun and nice things when I’m by myself, usually I end up just stewing in my brains. I did try to get in the habit of occasionally going to these nice gardens near us so maybe I will do that more this year also.
also health related: got my first mammogram this year. it was uncomfortable but fine. also got my first pap smear which was QUITE PAINFUL AND UNPLEASANT but I did survive it
also tangentially health related: I tried a few times throughout the year to do yoga. for a lil bit I was doing it with some coworkers after work once a week. some of it I did with some people from the carry on discord. it was very intermittent but better than nothing at all!
last health thing: my dad’s siblings had an Exceptionally Shitty Summer. one of his sisters died, another of his sisters had an extreme staph infection and was in the hospital for weeks, and one of his brothers had a mini stroke and possibly also a heart attack? the latter two are doing okay now but it was rough for a minute there
ENOUGH BAD STUFF I turned 30 this year! three full decades on this earth
Ingrid got her work authorization and a job and later in the year her green card!
I paid off my car (and also my car is having a lot of minor problems but that’s just… having a car)
I made a few financial mistakes (messed up our taxes, accidentally got a best buy credit card) but they are hopefully still fixable and overall we still saved money by the end of the year. we tried to keep a budget for a while but it was hard to keep up with. we also tried to join a credit union but their customer service was really weird
made a halfhearted attempt at local politics (went to a few protests, one city planning thing, and one socialist alternative meeting)
stay tuned for part 2 since tumblr hates me apparently
