I’ve listening to a little vocaloid in the past but I’ve never rlly gotten into the fandom and now that I’m listening to vocaloid songs a lot more I kinda wanna get into the fandom but I have no idea what the online vocaloid fan base is like and I’m scared
Like what if shipping miku and teto is a heinous crime in the vocaloid fandom
What if miku x teto x neru polycule is hated
I’m scared ☹️
#vocaloid#help a guy out#I’m not new to fandom as a whole#just the vocaloid fandom#each fandom is different#i’m scared#hatsune miku#kasane teto#akita neru#triple baka#polycule#miku x teto#?

To relive a death
@williamvapespeare commissioned me to draw anything with the boys being gentle to each other and Edwin comforting Charles in general, so we went with this!
The idea of a character who is dead having to go through it once a year is very dear and near to my heart (how many dead blorbos do you have, I hear you ask. Too many) but at least these two have each other
#dead boy detectives#dbda#payneland#edwin x charles#i imagine it's not as bad for edwin#maybe he gets a little bit sleepy and his wrists hurt where he was restrained#perhaps he can't talk? since i think he had something in his mouth? can't remember#and of course he can only appear with his sleeping clothes#which is a bad reminder of hell#but other than that#it's not as bad as internal bleeding and hypothermia as far as manifestations of your trauma go#i mean he can at least do something other than shiver#also i once wrote a fic for a different fandom with this whole premise. still proud of that one#(it was j*dtavius)#censoring it so this doesn't appear in the tag lol#anyway what do you think they're reading? do they pick a different book each year or do they always read the same one?

So, back around 2022-2023, I had to explain to a BUNCH of friends what exactly is/was the Undertale/UTMV fandom. It was hard to explain AUs of AUs… of multiverses… to people which weren’t there to personally experience the transition?
A lot of these stories and ideas just stems from people getting inspired off of other people, and kind of building up from there. However, if you weren’t really there for the natural progression of that… the fandom will kind of seem like… a lot (even though it kind of is ^^ the rabbit hole runs deep…).
So, I tried my hand at semi-making a “comprehensive” guide to how I see the layers of the fandom ^^” (in a silly, not-so-serious way).
The deeper you go into this fandom, the harder it sometimes gets to even leave 💀
Anyways, tag yourself, I’m stuck in Hell 7 🕺
(note: please don’t take this entirely too seriously! I just used this as a way to make the entirety of the fandom slightly more digestible, instead of me yapping for hours in a pseudo lecture about the history of the fandom).
#darkzyx#undertale au#undertale au fandom#undertale multiverse#utmv fandom#utmv#undertale aus#god there is just so many different aus and multiverses that were made#honestly if you sat me down to try and explain the entirety of the Undertale fandom#it’d be difficult#each layer kind of operates semi separately from each other in a way#but at the same time relies on each other too#don’t get me started on how the fandom technically has 3 fandoms in it#the three types being the side which makes aus fight/the ones that make em kiss/ the ones that make em chill#I think everyone knows where I went#anyways please don’t take any of this too seriously#this is just my fun way of breaking down the fandom to make it slightly more digestible

Happy Moon Festival! 🌕
there's a bunch of holidays today, Mid-Autumn Festival, Tsukimi, Chuseok and more! all dated on the day of the brightest full moon!
and since i had some time, i thought i'd draw all my moons and some yummy festival sweets (all prepared by chef Moon of course!)
some intros to all the moons and the dishes below the cut
some intros:
Moonie's from my chibi AU, "Rain or Shine". a rambunctious little guy who loves playing with his Sunny
Moondrop's from my hairdresser AU, "New 'Do, Same You". a Moon in a glamrock-style casing, who's pretty chill but insecure
Mooncake's from my restaurant AU, "Have You Eaten?" a hopeless romantic chef who loves cooking yummy foods!
13's from my dystopian AU. he's a sheltered, naive little Moon bot who is curious to learn about the world outside the palace
Miel is from my idol AU. she's an ex-Moon bot, turned nanny bot, turned rapper of an idol duo (she sings too tho!)
and the menu:
tsukimi dango are plain Japanese dumplings made of rice flour and glutinous rice flour, resembling the full moon
mooncakes are Chinese treat with various skins and fillings, but traditionally they are a pastry filled with lotus seed paste and a salted duck egg yolk to resemble the full moon
songpyeon are a Korean rice cake with various types of fillings—red beans, dates, sesame seeds, honey, and more!
#fnaf moon#fnaf dca#dca fandom#Moon Rain or Shine AU#Moon New Do Same You AU#Moon Have You Eaten? re last reblog I do see fanfic culture pushing/replicating a certain model of "what trauma looks like," "how trauma works"
this is a problem across all areas of society obviously, but transformative works are, well, transformative. they're about crafting and modifying narratives where the fan-creator sees a flaw or a lack -- often for the better! don't get me wrong, I've done my fair share of "I take a hammer and I fix the canon," it's the main thing that gets my creative gears spinning -- but what happens when that "flaw" is simply a narrative not conforming to popular expectations?
some people just don't get PTSD from events that sound obviously traumatic. they're not masking, and they're not coping; they just straight-up didn't get the permanently-locked stress-response that defines PTSD. they walk away from a horrible experience going "well, that sucked, but it's over now." some people do get PTSD from events most people wouldn't find traumatic. we don't really know why some people get PTSD and others don't. but fandom has an idea of events that must be traumatizing, of a "correct" way to portray trauma. you see the problems with this lack of understanding in e.g. fans pressuring the devs of Baldur's Gate 3 to add dialogue where the player character badgers Halsin about his own feelings on his abuse -- because he must be traumatized, and his trauma must fit a certain mold and presentation of sexual trauma, under the mistaken impression that anything outside that narrow window is somehow "wrong" and disrespectful or even harmful to survivors.
take, for another example, the very common trope of a traumatized character who hates touch or sex "learning" to like touch or sex as a part of their healing process. certainly that can be healing for some people; other people will never like, or want, touch or sex, because of trauma or because they just don't. the assumption that someone who doesn't want sex or doesn't like to be touched must be traumatized, must be suffering from this perceived lack, is seriously harmful -- to asexual people, to people with sensory issues around touch, and to people for whom healing from trauma means freedom to refuse sex or touch.
and there's a secondary trope, one that's slightly more thoughtful but ultimately repeats the problem -- that once someone has learned that their boundaries will be respected, they'll feel it's safe to soften those boundaries. once they feel safe refusing touch or sex, they'll feel comfortable allowing it on their own terms. but many people don't, and many people won't! many people will simply never want to be touched, and never want sex, and they are not suffering or broken or lacking because of it. the idea that proving you'll respect someone's boundaries entitles you to test those boundaries -- the paradox is obvious, and yet this is something i've seen hurt (re-traumatize) people i care for.
people are imperfect victims. people don't heal in the ways you expect. many people have positive memories of their abuse, of their abusers. many people hurt others in the course of their trauma, in ways that can't easily be unpacked in a 5k oneshot. very few narratives of trauma and recovery actually fit the ones put forward by popular children's media and romance novels -- which are the ones I most see replicated in fandom spaces, because they provide the clearest narrative and easiest catharsis, and so they're easy and soothing to reach for.
that's not necessarily a bad thing! i am not immune to goopy romance tropes. i am not immune to teary catharsis. not every fic has to grapple with ugly realities. but there's a problem when these narratives become predominant, when people think they're accurate and realistic depictions of trauma, when the truth of trauma is unpleasant and uncomfortable, and doesn't fit any single narrative, let alone one of comforting catharsis
#bird original#see also: the murderbot diaries#murderbot does not like to be touched. murderbot does not like touching other people#physical contact is an unpleasant necessity in emergencies or to feign being human (something murderbot also hates)#at one point murderbot uncomfortably offers a hug to someone it cares for because she's upset and needs one --#and she refuses. because she knows it doesn't really want to; she won't ask it to do something it hates for her benefit#& yet murderbot fic often has it learning that touch ~isn't so bad~ and maybe there are a COUPLE people it likes to cuddle with.#the differences between vash in the original trigun anime and trigun stampede --#tristamp!vash is your woobie who hides his sad and traumatized heart under goofy behavior;#who copes and avoids through silly indulgences#2011!vash ... is not that#2011!vash isn't coping or masking. he feels immense grief yes; he also feels immense joy; the two are inseparable#he pursues joy moment to moment because he knows how fleeting each moment is#he loves people so intensely because he knows that he'll lose them -- so he has no time to waste with them#his grief is real and profound; so is his joy#i find that much more compelling and i feel like that's not a character i'd see in today's media environment#anyway#fandom#trauma#fanfic#throwing a golden apple into the tags with this but fuck it we ball

tim drake would rather die than kill innocent people and tim drake killed hundreds of supervillain henchpeople with long-range detonation explosives that one time are two separate headcanons that, contrary to what the fandom discourse would have you believe, can actually coexist at the same time.
there’s even a psychologist term for it.
it’s called compartmentalization!
#let’s be honest#the entire batfamliy “stuffers” from this#and while that’s not something generally talked about#I just find the concept so interesting#how they all justify their actions — both socially moral and socially in-moral — to themselves#particularly how they all justify their actions to themselves in different ways#and for more evidence about their compartmentalization: there’s obviously the fact that they all have superhero and civilian identities too#also#this might need to be a separate post#but#the fandom’s perception of each member of the batfamily as individuals#often read more like they have bought into the characters’s “masks” they wear due to trauma#the “masks” being how the batfam are completely willing to be only perceived as one-thing#because that’s easier than being a real human#with blood and pain and fears and failures#they’d much rather be#the nice one#or the funny one#or the smart one#(etc. etc.)#dc#dc comics#dc characters#batman comics#batfam#the batfamily#tim drake#robin#robin dc#red robin

saying this as respectfully as possible but. Do not put fandom content creators on a pedestal. We are also just fans contributing to a community just as you are. We have boundary on our own work and that’s it. What I say is not and should not be considered sth the whole fandom should listen to. I’m just a normal ass person ranting about things on my blog. If it does not have a fandom tag for others to engage in, do not make it out to be me trying to start fights or addressing the whole community. Because it’s not.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, my art, my lore talk, is biased. I’ve never tried to hide that I view Marika a certain way and will always develop my theory following that base assumption.
Aside from translation stuffs and pointing out in-game items, everything else I say you can look at it, agree or disagree, and move on to form your own opinions. Just because I draw stuffs doesn’t mean you get to saddle me with responsibilities about managing fandom expectations. What the hell? I’m a fan artist, I’m the last person who you should look at for “leaderism” (?) WHAT?
I can and will be a hater in my own space, like I know sometimes other artists will just post their stuffs and not engage too heavily with fandom, and for a while I did try to do that here (because I’m already a dramatic ass on twitter), that’s just not me though.
You will get art and you will get my opinions as well.
#asking ppl to [celebrate different takes] is... WHAT?#different takes as in well I think she likes apples and you think she likes grapes. yeah that’s some fun discussion to be have#but different takes as in the fundamental of a character’s drive and personality??? NO#let’s put that down very clear here#I can still read fics where Marika is cold and calculate and manipulative as long as I can see there’re layers to it and the author#set it up in a way that I can see they got her backstory and build those layers based on that#and then there are ppl who literally only portray her as omg evil girlboss 101 let’s blame everything on this cardboard character#then I click back.#and there r ppl who might not vibe with how i portray her and they can ignore me. THAT'S OK TOO. we r in our own space.#it’s as simple as that!#ever since the dlc is out i literally could see the amount of ppl blocking me go up and im just “ok” because i do go around muting ppl too.#that's normal fandom space managing experience. pls do that#lore discussion is for ppl to engage in so u say ur piece i say mine and we can continue or not depending on situation#but FANWORK? leave each other alone or be a hater in ur own space ok?#personal#also where are these ppl who have been defending Marika at... because if u exclude me#and some others i can count on one hand. where are these ppl?#ppl saying headass stuffs about the HS aren't even Marika fans or engage too much in fandom to begin with#meanwhile u can't even find one youtube lore essay that says anything good about her#ppl are even trying to give Messmer's mother position to GEQ for no goddamn reason#like where is this overwhelming support for Marika at cuz as the active Marika stan around im not seeing it

WIP!!! Stealing glances amidst victory celebrations in Suna….
#narugaa#naruto uzumaki#gaara of the sand#Naruto#fanart#other fandoms#other fandoms: naruto#GUYSSSS this one is gonna take a while so I’m letting myself post this much of it now#much of it needs to be cleaned up lol…..#thanks to Jane who let me screen share as I drew and helped me every time I went:#“does this expression convey that they’ve been looking at each other the whole night and this is the first glance they catch each other#and are now blushy because Naruto suddenly realises this look in gaara’s eye is Different and he’s the only one that recognises the nuance#as something perhaps intimate. perhaps erotic. perhaps suggestive that they should get up and leave soon#anyway I’m working on it ok….#trying to expound on the visual culture of Suna a little by making like… a shisha lounge#grew up on shisha (my lungs are recovering these days now that I’ve quit smoking completely) but I hold it near my heart#also I changed Naruto’s hair. they’re wearing the ‘The Last’ outfits but I just couldn’t do short hair Naruto I’m sorry#his fluffy spikey blond hair appeals to me so much I’m sorry I refuse to cut it short#also it’s like vaguely mussed and messy here to imply some things about how much he’s had to drink LOL#Gaara has a few strands out of place but that’s it#kazekage duties etc etc#anyway#OK ANYWAY

It's so interesting to see the difference in the three main parts of this fandom.
On one hand you got the TikTok side of the fandom. These are the people that have maybe watched the movie and then have watched one episode worth of content from the show total via edits and clips on their TikTok fyp. They never know what the fuck they're talking about, but they act like they do.
Then you have the Twitter side of the fandom. These are the people that have watched the show, but due to their lack of media literacy and ability to possess nuance, it seems like they watched the show with earplugs and a blindfold on. They are also too busy competing in the morality Olympics and cancelling each other to even bother trying to have productive conversations.
And then you have the Tumblr side of the fandom. These are the people that did watch the show, who understand the themes, who understand the characters, and who can have based and nuanced and productive discussions about these complex characters and stories. They can have those discussions, but it doesn't happen often because they are too busy writing toxic old man yaoi smut and drawing pictures of Lestat snorting cocaine off of Louis' boobs.
#it's whiplash everytime I get onto one of these three apps#the fandoms are just so drastically different on each one lmao#amc iwtv#interview with the vampire#iwtv#lestat de lioncourt#louis de pointe du lac#claudia de lioncourt#claudia de pointe du lac#daniel malloy#armand#sam reid#jacob anderson#delainey hayles#eric bogosian#assad zaman#armandstat#lesmand#devils minion#loumand

Btw I think it’s incredibly important to the long term of BuckTommy that both Tommy and Eddie encouraged Buck to mend things with the other. Tommy doesn’t want his presence to interfere with BuckAndEddie as a unit and Eddie wants Buck to be happy with Tommy, and both those things are spelled out in back to back episodes.
#BuckTommy#Tommy Kinard#Eddie Diaz#Evan Buckley#you can wiggle different meanings out of it but it’s important that both these people that the fandom likes to pit against each other#are canonically invested in the other’s relationship to Buck

this may seem needlessly finicky but I do actually believe it's important: calling Verin a himbo is just one of many examples where like, one of the cast says something off the cuff and it's not exactly the right word or it is highly contextual, and that is fine because no one is perfect especially in improv, but then it gets repeated ad infinitum within the fandom when it never really fit in the first place. We have Verin's stats and he's decently more intelligent than average with a 13 (smarter than most of Bells Hells for one; as smart as Pike); it's just he's the guy with a bachelor's degree with good grades followed by military service in a family where everyone has two PhDs - Matt said "himbo of the family" the way in a family where most people are exceptionally tall you'd call the 5'11" child the short one. In Call of the Netherdeep he appears as thoughtful and competent and promoted to a difficult position at a very young age, and in the campaign his appearance is simultaneously as a leader of troops in a dangerous mission, and someone who cares enough about poetry from a completely foreign and distant culture to have tried to learn more about it. I'm sorry, but if you're using the word "himbo" I don't think you're processing a thing about the character yourself; you're just the latest repetition in a game of telephone that's been going on since mid-2021.
And that's not deeply bad on the surface, and I'm using Verin not because he is the character most wronged by this sort of thing but because he's recent and it's really clear where the word came from and that it's not a good assessment, but something I happen to have a decent knack for is pattern recognition in language. I usually find it really easy to pick up on when someone's plagiarized because of the language and pattern shifts. I tend to remember urls and out of place words well. So I do tend to notice when everyone suddenly starts using a single turn of phrase and I tend to flag it. Sometimes that's not bad; sometimes it means everyone came to a similar conclusion and that's the best way to express that conclusion. But like, when Taliesin called the Yios episode a gas-leak episode and the entire fandom started parroting it? The line "bone-dry takes"? The fact that a lot of ship defenses I see were phrased precisely as "I have eyes"? without actually talking about the ship itself? the fact that I've seen a spike in the use of the term "ontologically evil" including in myself and not all uses are actually correct? And extending this beyond strictly language but consider any headcanon with minimal textual support that catches like wildfire (sidebar: remember how we make, or made fun of the SPREAD THIS LIKE WILDFIRE tendency on Tumblr a decade ago? same concept of repetition of a specific turn of phrase without internalizing) all sort of ping this.
And it's fine, truly, to come to fandom and turn off your brain. I know this will sound sarcastic from me, and that's because I don't personally agree, but I do strongly agree that you can do what you want in fandom and you don't have to listen to my opinions so in the end, yeah, it's fine because I am not the arbiter of "fine". But I think critical thought is a vital exercise and I think precision with language is part of it and so if you find yourself using the same exact words and thoughts as everyone else, that should, ideally, trigger a process of "but are these the right words? what do I see when I see this character and how would I describe them? do I agree with this assessment?" Fandom is an interesting and easier microcosm than reality in which to start doing that.
#posts you make when you realize you haven't revisited politics and the english language since high school and probably should#but your greatest platform is your actual play and similar fantasy nerd shit blog#cr spoilers#cr tag#what has struck me about people in the fandom who are the best meta writers (other than myself; can't really be objective there)#is that they have unique and individual voices and they're often in agreement but usually voice their thoughts differently from each other#and a lot of really dumb posts will all use nearly identical language and double down on it without providing an actual defense#see: girlfailure
