dead boy detectives is a show whose shortcomings and strengths make total sense when you think of it as a comic on tv, ie terribly goofy expository dialogue that sounds way better when you picture it in comic book font with every other word bolded, panel-paced conversation as our heroes figure out something very obvious, fun enormous monster set pieces that used up all the cgi budget which is why all the rooftop shots look Like That, incredible snap zooms and smash cuts in montages that hit exactly like comic panels, and side characters with bland or brilliant characterization that seems to hinge on the metric of ‘how much cunt did the actor put into their line readings’

Dick. For the canon isn't real square I am Specifically talking about the Tom Taylor Nightwing run. Usually I ignore bad runs but given this one is ongoing (though about to end THANK GOD and get replaced by Dan Watters who i have high hopes for since i adored his Sword of Azrael (2022) run but i digress) so I counted it. Especially since it's so debated if that run is bad or not, for some reason. I'm a 90s Nightwing truther. I love Dick so dearly and tbh recently I've been more enamored with him the more I read his Discowing era, I didn't used to be as big of a Dick stan as I am these days.

Bruce. Honestly where do you even start with Bruce. I want to fist fight him and also patch him up. He got me into comics and superheroes as a whole but I roll my eyes whenever he shows up in a story. He's a bastard and usually not a good father but also complex and should be dissected under a magnifying glass. I love him dearly. He's also just the worst. I think that's why I love him. I'm always a fan of unabashedly Complicated Asshole Bruce who's generally not always the best person, particularly not to the Batfamily and that being the driving force of his relationships with them, especially in shipping.

And for bonus points, Tim. Because know above all else, I'm a Tim Drake kinnie /deg. He's been my number one for a decade and I've yet to uproot him from my brain. He's literally the Worst half the time and I love him for it. And the canon isn't real refers to Tim Drake: Robin because... that sure was a comic. And that's about all I can say about it. Pre-Flashpoint Tim I miss you so dearly. I think it's fun that I want to put him in a blender and drink the juice but also want Nothing Ever to happen to him.

...You ever see something in media that pissed you off so much, you were tempted to make a YouTube video about it? An adaptation of something you love that's been SO BADLY fucked over, you need to scream it into a screen to get your feelings out? A show that you had your hope up for, something that would inform your opinion of future media, then dashed that hope against the rocks like a god callously discarding a deformed child? YOU EVER SEE SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU SO MAD, YOU MAKE HALF-BAKED REFERENCES TO GREEK MYTHOLOGY THAT MAKE NO SENSE, EVEN IN CONTEXT???

Creature Commandos really pissed me off.

The finale of Creature Commandos came out today, so I watched it and the previous episode (which I missed), only to turn out enraged, disappointed, and really worried about the DCU going forward. And yeah, I know, I'm a sad comic book nerd crying into the cybernetic void, as a percentage of us always does when the badaptation comes a-calling, but I'm normally a VERY positive person, and this show...this show.

This series stood on a cliff overlooking a vast ocean of possibilities, dove off with a beautiful arc, twisted and turned in the air gracefully and poetically, and as it approached the surface of the water, SMASHED INTO A ROCK FACE-FUCKING-FIRST, AND IT WASN'T PRETTY!!! Ugh. I hate complaining like this, because I know it's cringe, I know it doesn't matter, I know that most people don't care, and I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me. But this made me so upset. I'm tempted to write a whole goddamn essay about it, honestly. I just had to get SOMETHING out to vent, because...I hated this. I really goddamn hated this, and I may not have felt this way if not for the ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT ENDING that we got.

Jesus tap-dancing Christ. I'm probably gonna write that essay.

As much as I love other adaptations of comics, I have to admit it is so refreshing to see Invincible's team follow the source material so closely, with scenes, screencaps, and even dialogue lifted directly from the comic.

And they could've just had it there, with a direct adaptation that adds nothing new. But no! They're able to make changes and decisions that affect arcs and relationships while still keeping to the original series.

It allows for new viewers to experience the same story but make that experience familiar yet refreshing for people who've already read the comic, all while managing to not break the flow.

13 reasons Why- S3 E12 : One sequence :

So, even if I'm used to draw an adaptation of an episode of Degrassi, I was really willing to draw this sequence from 13 reasons Why. It really thrives me in, mostly after everything the character of Tyler went through. I really love the message behind this scene, about how rebuilding yourself could be a long process, one where you will probably not recognize yourself at the end, thing who can be scary, to be fair. Here, Tyler took the time to capture every step of his own journey through pictures. I read before that in all these pictures, there is only in the last one where he is smiling. But after redrawing all the shot, we can see it's not true. For some moments, Tyler is back to smile and sometimes, you feel how bad was his day through his face on the picture. And it's means a lot about going through depression or a trauma. Somedays are better than others, someday, you feel like everything will be better now, and some others, you feel like you will never make it. But that's the thing, even in the bad is always there, sometimes, waiting to come back, the good also is waiting, and will be back. On how you see it, it can only give you hope of a brighter future.

I also very love the friendship built between Alex and Tyler. Where Tyler would be a kinda dark version of Clay (notably in season 1 and 2), Alex is more of a character who shares the same sensibility than Tyler, and kinda completed each other. This incredible moment and sentence "Are you okay ?", only by looking at the face of his friend also prove how Tyler learn to use his empathy to help people around him. Because he's been through hard stuff, he learn himself to recognize the signs. Like he said to Jessica : "May be it's different with guys." May be it's why he is able to see that Alex is suffering right now, only by a look on his face.

There is so much to say about this sequence. My relathinship with Season 3 is complicated. I feel like the direction taken, with the murder mostly, was going too far for being really realistic for a teen-show (but hey, it's a drama, and sometimes, it needs a strong red line, I was still curious to know who was the killer). But this season is probably the one with the most poignant scene. For me, it really revealed how Devin Druid was a skilled actor, notably in emotional scene.

And I'm stopping here, because there is so much to say. And I love tumblr for that. Instead of Instagram, we can really write and write and write about our favorite subject here.
