Animal Kingdom: Final Season--Thoughts

Okay, so whenever I mention this show to anyone, most people haven’t heard of it. It is really quite good imo! I remember reading a critic review that said if you like The Sopranos or Sons of Anarchy, then you will like Animal Kingdom! I am going to do my best to keep it as spoiler free as possible, but I will stay right now SPOILERS AHEAD, so if you aren’t caught up, don’t read! Overall, my favorite characters have shifted, which doesn’t happen often. Season one and two, I really liked J, but by the beginning of this season, I knew he was a snake waiting to strike. In the later seasons, I really started liking Andrew aka Pope Cody, who is the eldest of the siblings, twin to Julia (J’s mom). Daran, the youngest brother, was a constant favorite though in every season. I like where they have the scenes that go back and forth between past and present since it nicely lays out a trail of bread crumbs as to what is going to happen. Or what you can assume to happen. I don’t know about other people, but I tend to be pretty good at guessing on the endings of shows and movies, so any twists that they were throwing into this I wasn’t too surprised about. How it turned out was really rather bitter. It doesn’t end on a high note for anyone! The final song they chose to play while playing the final scenes of each character was stellar and thought it fit the tone so well! I will have to go and look up the name, but it was a song I don’t recall hearing before. I can’t remember the last TV show that I watched start to finish that actually made me sad at the end. Not “Boo-hoo, I’m crying” sad, but more like “Gee, that was a real downer.” type of sad.

thinking about jeremy hitting rock bottom his freshman year, losing so much in one disastrous night, the repercussions of which would continue to haunt him for years. thinking about jeremy spiralling so bad cody said they “really thought we were going to lose him for a while there.” cat saying the right therapist can be “life changing”, using jeremy as an example. thinking about how bad jeremy’s crash out must have been, understandably; thinking about his family continuing to blame him for noah’s death—from the coldness of annalise, to the outright antagonism of bryson, to joshua ignoring him for years. the wilshires doing everything in their power to cover up what happened at the banquet rather than lending an ounce of support to a boy who had lost his brother in terrible circumstances, because jeremy was there, because it was so much easier to blame him for all of it. coldblooded, if you ask me. jeremy needed help, not damage control.

thinking about jeremy having probably the worst year of his life, having the opposite of emotional support from his family, and still somehow coming out of it a better person. thinking of all the work he put in to be better and succeeding—i’d rather die than ever be that person again. believe me. despite the hostility of his family system, despite being blamed for the fallout, despite the guilt and heartbreak that “nearly destroyed him”. still jeremy managed to build a new life for himself out of the wreckage, going so far as to be captain of the trojans, with a team who respect and admire him. still he managed to come out of it with such a capacity for kindness and goodness and lifting the people around him up.

thinking about jeremy continuing to be the human embodiment of sunshine despite living in such a cold home that was never forgiving or warm to him. jeremy knox, you will always be loved by me.

I've been having a codywan au running around my brain the last few days and I thought I'd share.

Let's imagine that Palpatine calculates his plan a bit differently and starts the Clone Wars about ten years earlier, just after the Naboo invasion. You end up with a young grieving Obi-Wan attempting to run a battalion and raise a precocious child at the same time.

Enter the 212th's competent, attractive Commander who is the only thing making Obi-Wan's life easier at the moment. Cody is a bit horrified at having a nine year old on their battle ship, but he does his best to help Obi-Wan create some structure and safety in Anakin's life. All of the clones enjoy having the little rascal around and are happy to watch Anakin while Cody and Obi-Wan do their evening paperwork. (If those paperwork sessions eventually become more like paperwork dates, well, no one's the wiser.) Anakin gets some sense of what healthy non-attached relationships look like through Cody and Obi-Wan's fumbling romance, so he doesn't end up eloping later in life. He's also relatively isolated from Palpatine's influence due to being stuck with Obi-Wan on the frontlines.

I'm sure that Anakin gets in several arguments with Obi-Wan and Cody about how useful he could be on the battlefield during the war if they just let him participate. I really enjoy the idea of Anakin yelling "You can't tell me what to do! You're not my dad! I've never had a dad!" at Cody.

Cody scratches the back of his neck and awkwardly says, "I don't have a dad either. Or a mom." And Anakin feels so bad that the clones didn't have a mom that he starts listening to Cody and Obi-Wan more often.

old Obi-Wan is so funny to me because his sass and overall bitchiness is like the last thing he's got and I'm so proud it survived the great depression of his 40s.

i think it would be really funny if Rex and Cody never reconnected after Order 66 but Cody did go to Tatooine and live with Obi-Wan because it means the way Rex finds out Cody survived would be through Luke

Luke meeting Rex and being like “woah you look like Cody!!” and Rex is SO fucking flabbergasted. “YOU KNOW CODY??!”

and then Luke goes onto explain that, yeah, he knows Cody!! he babysat him when Cody’s husband went out of town. and that is how Rex finds out Obi-Wan and Cody got together after the war

The funniest thing I would want to make for my Cody is Onyx Prime AU is the conversation the Bots would have with the Burns family and how stupidly they would handle that...

Meanwhile, Boulder hugging little Predacon Cody and reassuring him that everything will be ok. With Blades taking his vitals and making sure his new form is not affecting him in any way.
