Also, from his own perspective, Wei Wuxian couldn't have chosen to ignore what was going on in the labor camps once he had learned about it, because that would go against everything he was as a person.

He didn't fight for the Wens because he thought that would accomplish something. He always knew he was just buying them time, and that there was no guarantee he would be able to save them for good. He certainly hoped so at one point, but as things progressed it became clear to everyone that they were living on borrowed time.

But to Wei Wuxian that wasn't the point.

The point is that a horrible injustice was done to those people, and he found out about it, so he couldn't ignore them and go on with his life, because that would go against his very nature.

Wei Wuxian knew very well that taking the Wens out of the labor camps would paint a huge target in his back. He knew that the sects were corrupt to their core. He had noticed that the Jin sect had been trying to occupy the power vacancy left by the Wen sect. Wei Wuxian wasn't a fool, and he wasn't overestimating his abilities either.

Actually, I think a lot of people read this part of the story and assume Wei Wuxian was politically illiterate. That's not true at all. If anything, it's Jiang Cheng who is a political fool who falls for every one of the Jin sect's traps.

Wei Wuxian was very aware of the political undercurrents, and made his choices accordingly. However, and this is the point the novel tried to make, one man can't change society by himself, no matter how right or how powerful he may be. Wei Wuxian's social class was working against him, and that made it impossible for him to speak to the other decision makers of the cultivation world - the sect leaders - on equal terms. This also meant that the culprits were the ones controlling the narrative, which is why Wei Wuxian's reputation was destroyed so thoroughly.

Wei Wuxian's only option was to deter them with brute strength. I'm making this point because so many people in this fandom keep asking why Wei Wuxian didn't just talk things out. Like, he tried. But in my opinion it was very clear in the novel that nobody wanted to listen to what a son of a servant had to say. Especially a son of a servant who dared to be powerful and refused to bow his head to the upper class.

When he chose to fight for the Wen remnants, Wei Wuxian did so hoping that if nothing else happened, his power and the Yin Tiger Tally, combined with his choice to settle in the burial mounds would be enough to deter the sects from pursuing them further. But he always knew that this wasn't an indefinite solution to the problem.

The point is that Wei Wuxian didn't "throw his life away" for nothing, because when he decided to protect the Wens he wasn't expecting to save them forever. He knew very well that he was borrowing time for them and that the chances of things working out permanently were quite low. He had hope, but everyone there knew it was far-fetched. He still chose to do it because he didn't see it as throwing his life away. For Wei Wuxian, protecting the Wens was his only choice in that situation, because doing otherwise would be the same as throwing away his soul. Wei Wuxian could never turn a blind eye.

one mild sentiment i see echoed around alot is that despite everything, wei wuxian failed to “save” the wen remnants, that him going to such great lengths was an effort in vain. but... no?? he did accomplish alot by taking them to the burial mounds. he gave them time. he gave them a period of peace and community life. he gave their elders a sense of togetherness. he gave them a chance to heal some of their wounds together. he prevented their slow, agonising, brutal, INDIGNIFIED deaths at the labor camps, prevented their daily suffering under the oppressive guards.

as wen qing said: they all should have died a long time ago but wei wuxian’s efforts did bear sweet fruits, however bitter the end might have been.

and here’s the thing. the wens survived through wen yuan. their legacy still remains because all the remnants and wei wuxian (and ofc lan wangji) fought to see that happen. imagine if they hadn’t, if wei wuxian wouldn’t have done anything. the wens would have seen their demise in the labor camps with nary a mention of their deaths. they would have been wiped out without ever getting the chance to say their piece or take their stance. as things went, atleast wen qing and wen ning faced their deaths bravely, as leaders of their community. atleast, wen yuan could live a fulfilling life. atleast the wen remnants had a year and more together, to enjoy some of the peace the post-war cultivation world was enjoying.

and that is what wei wuxian gave up everything for. a cause greater than himself.

when bitches wobify Mu Qing and make him into a twink and i especially despise it when they do it for a ship with Feng Xin.

and okay he's not as muscular and more lean (hence being describes as looking scholarly) but do y'all fucking forget the man is a martial god in his own right? by no means is that man a damsel in distress that needs Feng Xin to constantly save him. he's smart, he's cunning and yeah he had a few vulnerable moments but by no means is he a poor wet meow meow he would kick your ass and laugh at you for being a failure. and yeah he's more lithe, especially when he's constantly next to Feng Xin who is kind of hypermasculine in fandom portrayals and impo (general "gigantic masculinity" anyone?) and those two are THE SAME FUCKING HEIGHT so why is Mu Qing always drawn to be much shorter than Feng Xin. and also maybe let's factor in the fact that Mu Qing was poor when growing and likely had to go without food so the lack of proper food while growing probably had an effect on his development(this just a hc btw but still it tracks). also this whole thing kind of smells really bad when people take Mu Qing, who is described as scholarly, and feminise him. it's really giving "EUGH!!! school is for girls!! only boys play sports!! academics=lame, feminine girly, war=cool, MASCULINE, done by REAL MEN URGH!!!"

I was talking to @shizunitis about what the MXTX characters would do if they were in Shen Yuan’s position and were forced to push their love interest into the abyss. I’m posting here because I’m curious what other people think!

So far, my assessment is:

Xie Lian would probably also toss himself into the abyss.

A) I haven't seen most of this ship, but I love it now. Except my AU for how they met is different.

B) The AU is when Wei Wuxian died he ended up in the abyss, Luo Binghe is intressed and let's him stay. Wei Wuxian spent most of his time watching his family somehow (IDK yet make a guess), Luo Binghe is noisy and sometimes joined in on watching and got attached to Jiang Cheng. Then found a way for him to get to Wei Wuxian's World, and he took Wei Wuxian back for cause he can.

C) Jiang cheng has no idea why this demon emperor from another world is flirting with him and

Luo Binghe is losing his friendship points

What is your view on what counts as character bashing or character critical? Because I just had an argument about characterizing Jiang Cheng from MDZS. To me its only bashing if you exaggerate their bad traits/actions past what is actually established in cannon.

Yeah to me being character-critical is just being willing to point out a character's canon flaws and not smoothing them over even if you like the character.

Meanwhile, actual character bashing tends to be taking a character's bad traits, ramping them up to 12 and then, more often than not, bringing the hammer down on them.

Character bashing can normally be identified by how extreme things are.

Every month WWX leaves CRRS to visit the wen without anyone knowing but LWJ (i think he noticed) because LWJ make some arrangement that allows WWX leaves anytime he likes. 1 month and WWX still come back. Just like the following months until LWJ noticed WWX is not coming back. I think before that the two of them has a fight (? Not sure about this). LWJ search for WWX and found him. Instead of make his presence known, LWJ follows WWX in secret. WWX noticed of course and ignore LWJ. A few days like that and WWX relenta and calls LWJ to follow him without hiding. 11. Thank you for all the work you do!! I've been driving myself crazy trying to find this fic. All I remember is one scene. At the Jin banquet, Jiang Cheng allows (sends?) WWX to dual Jin What's His Face. WWX obviously trounces him, but nearly has a flashback, prompting JC to pull him back when he realizes that maybe sending his traumatized brother into that situation wasn't the best plan.

I definitely want to find this fic😭 it's been months and I can't move on, there's only two of them that I want to find.

A) the first one is omegaverse, this fic started when lan wangji and Wei wuxian was in an arranged/convenience marriage, I remember cangse sanren died and the lan elders force the arranged marriage quickly in the hopes of Wei wuxian inheriting the money of baoshan sanren (his grandma), also the marriage was not affectionate or cold, but they co exist with eachother and do you bother eachother at first but then Wei Ying suddenly want to adopt a child (I also this lan started to fall with him in here also this was on summary, I think).

Key events:

1. Lan wangji has a crush on nie huisang at first but nie Huisang rejects him and lan wangji was fine with it.

2. Nie huisang suddenly kiss lan wangji (somewhere in the story) Infront of Jiang Cheng to make him jealous but he didn't know that lan wangji's husband was Jiang Cheng brother.

3. When it was close to ending, lan wangji got into an accident (car accident) just to attempt to save Wei Ying, Wei wuxian was pregnant in here.

B. Post cannon, Wei Ying survived but his soul was shattered and he brought back to cloud recesses, I remember this fic was that lan wangji was taking care of him because he sometimes acts like a child (?) and suicidal (his soul wants to reconnect with others, but can't do so because his body is still housing some parts of his soul and cannot reconnect with it) and lan wangji ended up taking care of him for 13 years until Wei wuxian jump off the cliff himself.

That changes when his travels take him to Yiling.

The best avatar fusion fic I've read. No mentions of jc so far and Wei Wuxian currently remains a mysterious figure who is for sure not a bloodbender and definitely isn't in hiding.

ok so my idea is a Shen Jiu x reader and a child wei wuxian. Its very random i know but imagine the angst potention. I only have a rough idea regarding the plot but here are the main points i have in mind

-Shen jiu and reader have a good relationship but the reader is sickly so they are almost never seen outside and have to depend on Shen Jiu with couses him to get a little overprotective

-dispait readers illnes they manage to have a healthy son Wei Ying thet thet they bouth adore(Shen Jiu made an outh to raise him to be extremly respectfull tovards women）

-they have a good family life untill Lou binghe returned from the abyss and they are seperated from Shen Jiu and go in hiding becouse Lou binghe will use anyone and anything to torment his teacher

-reader and wei ying end up in Yiling where reader dies due to theyr illnes but ends up as a ghost thanks to the resentfull energy from Burier Mounds and reader continued to try and take care of Wei Ying

-meanwhail Shen Jiu is tortured to death by Lou binghe but he becomes a ghost as well but he no longer has a filter so he is very volcal about his emotions (mainly anger）

-when Wei Ying is around ten years old Shen jiu and reader meet again whail reader is exploring the forest neer Burian Mounds trying to figure out how to give Wei Ying a comforteble life insted of a curent one and after a reunion between the lovers Wei Ying finaly meets his father

-Shen Jiu now know as Qi rong disaids to teach Wei Ying how to cultivate alowing them to get closer

-when wei ying is fifteen he does to gusu and meets the main gang of mdzs becoming best friends with Nie huaisang and having a frendly rivery between him and Jiang cheng

-wei ying gets in trouble and his parents have to come to guse acidently cousing a scene mainly Shen Jiu who is angry at wei ying for geting kicked out after them trying to get him in so hard and making his 'mom' woried

-whail Wei Ying now Wei Wuxian was in gusu Shen Jiu becomes more known as Qi Rong as he is doing anything he can to get revenge on Lou Binghe becomes a wrath/sevege level ghost almost a suprime and gets added to ghost kings and the four ghost kings becomes a thing (the main diference between She Jiu Qi rong and og Qi rong is thet Shen Jiu is a lot more cunning/he is a streategist and refuses to harm women ghost or human）

-now mdzs plot continues not long after Wei Wuxian the Wen sect attacks yada yada. Now Wei Wuxian gets thrown into burial mounds Shen Jiu found out and goes after him. Now Wei Wuxian actualy died from the fall and ends up absorbing a lot of the resentfull energy and a instantly becomes a wrath level ghost and for the next three months he gets traind by Shen Jiu.

-they leave the burial mounds and Wei Wuxian goes to get his ravenge like in cannon he takes in the inosent Wens/ women and children

-now you may be asking what is the reader doing? managing theritory of course. So whail Shen jiu is gone thraining their son Reader is handeling the politics and making deals with the other ghost kings mainly He Xuan becouse they share a bourder as in my au the burial mounds a next to his theritory so they are forsed to interact from time to time

-now for th second question you may be heaving what about Lou Binghe he is traveling and geting his harem up and ranning and whail he pases by Qi Rongs theritory he hears the stories about the local ghost hing and his Queen at first he doesnt really care becouse why should he but then he hears more and more about them and realises thet the green ghost sounds suspishously like his beloved teacher. A Palace hiden by a bamboo forest thet apired seemingly out of nowhere. then he hears about how all of the slawers have been found skined and hanging upside down creating Qi Rongs iconic forest of heanging corpses and all the slaves have disapired

-Lou Binghe isn´t stupid he knows about his shizuns history so he starts investigating and looking for him so he can torment his old teacher once more. he is surching untill he gets to YIling and by now every one knows about the Yiling Patriach and thet he is sean the most around the city of Yiling and whail Lou binghe rests in one of the ins he lais his ayes on the Yiling Patriarch and indtantly relaise how similar he looks to Shen Jiu his hair, face and even ayes in short an almos a carbon copy of his old teacher the only diference his ayes are gray almost blue

-Wei Wuxian doen´t notise Lou Binghe is folowing him as he goes home Lou binghe only stops to hide when he notises Wei Wuxian calmly walk inside a dark Bamboo forest. Now whail Wei Wuxian doesnt notise Lou Binghe Qi rong does and begans planing almost instanly on how to get back on Lou BInghe/get him out of his theritory

Welp thets all but i still need to figure out how to end it and who to pair Wei Wuxian up with and if to ad beefleaf and more inportantly how to work it out but i will figure it out hopefully soon. anway this is the end of my word vomit. have a good day/night

Yeah why would anyone ever get the idea that WWX was a dangerous loose cannon who Jiang Cheng couldn't control?

He is of course justified for being angry in that scene - it's the scene in between Wen Qing finding him and him actually going to Qiongqi Path. But declaring that in front of a banquet of people right before he went off to find Wen Ning did actually give people a lot of ammunition in ch. 73:

Hearing this, Jiang Cheng's face was already quite dark. Jin GuangShan shook his head, "In an event as important as the Flower Banquet, he dared throw a fit right in front of you, leaving however he pleased. He even dared say something like 'I don't care about the sect leader Jiang WanYin at all!' Everyone who was there heard it with their own ears..."

While obviously that's not actually what WWX said at all, and just JGS doing JGS things, I had kind of categorized that in my mind as a wholecloth lie. Now looking back it's more like an extremely bad-faith mischaracterization but... the seed was in some ways planted by WWX and it makes sense that a lot of the people who were there that day might not have objected much to that characterization of the sentiment.

Obviously, a big part of it is mob mentality and the ways that truth doesn't particularly matter when they get on a roll. But I think it's more interesting and fun and messy that WWX really did have a habit of creating fertile ground for bad actors to use against him (even when he was right).

I do find it somewhat interesting how the juxtaposition of the Jiang motto/ideals/Way To Be that Wei Wuxian embodies - honest and unrestrained, do what is right even if it's impossible - can lead to a situation of winning the battle and losing the war. I've always found it particularly juicy that Jiang Cheng himself has to back away from those ideals and be more strategic, and re-reading these scenes does sort of cement my personal belief/interpretation that Jiang Cheng wasn't unjustified in the level of threat/danger he read into the things said at the emergency conference (as he elaborates on in the cave confrontation later in the chapter).

Just random musing that a little section of that Emergency Conference scene was actually a bit more nuanced than I'd remembered I suppose!

Fanfic idea, Modao Zushi / Harry Potter crossover.

After everything, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji cultivate into immortality, maybe with some of the others like Jin Ling, A-Yaun, Jiang Cheng, ect.

Thousands of years pass, and Jiang Yanli is reincarnated into the body of Harry Potter. Either Harry is a girl in this one, or a boy with some gender confusion. Yanli doesn't have her memories, but some of the personality leaks through.

Harry loves cooking, feels like they are missing something/someone important, and is very quiet but sweet and surprisingly kind. Maybe they get into Hufflepuff, but I would say Gryffindor would suit them well.

In Hogwarts, Harry goes on adventures like cannon, but has a lot of friends and is very nurturing and is very helpful. They find the kitchens very quickly.

During the fourth year, the tournament happens, and a Cultivation School is part of it. Either one of the cultivator professors notices something is off with Harry's soul, or on the the MDZS cast is there and things get crazy fast.

And in comes over-protective brothers, brother in laws, and a son ready to throw hands and fierce corpses at anyone who even looks at Harry wrong. Voldemort is taken care of, and the shit hits the fan when Wei Wuxian finds out about the Dursleys.

I also just really like the idea of Harry with a few blurry memories and emotions interacting with WWX and JC. Maybe they don't tell Harry what is happening and Harry has no idea why these foreign powerful wizards are suddenly so interested in them.

This one I kinda get cause they were childhood friends but I don't really see it considering they haven't been friends for years by the time of cannon and have complete opposite strategies of dealing with conflict. Jiang Cheng faces things head on and usually with anger so I don't know how he'd appreciate Nie Huaisang's approach of quiet manipulation.

It was really hard to find one that wasn’t just smut and where SangCheng was the main ship and not sidelining someone else but let’s see if ‘perfect pretenders’ by skyestiel will convince me

send in your favorite SangCheng fic though in case this one is oo or doesn't make a good case tho
