Thinking of the time I was at a highschool writing camp and one of the guest instructors asked “Can you imagine not being able to write anymore?” As a way to sort of gauge our passion or something

Except I was just like “yes?”

I literally lost the ability for two months due to a medication messing with my brain. When I tried to write I’d mix up letters or entire words, it really freaked me out. Writing was one of my biggest coping mechanisms at the time and in an instant it was just gone.

It’s interesting to think I’ve survived other peoples nightmares. I’ve lost the ability to indulge in my passions, and I just had to deal with it, find new ways to express myself until the storm rolled over

I have no conclusion to this story. I don’t think myself superior for experiencing something so horrible. It just strikes me that what others think of as a scary hypothetical to me is a very real experience.

Someday I wish to write something that makes people understand the horror of watching your very mind degrade, of realizing that you can’t even write anymore without struggle, of getting lost in halls you’ve walked a thousand times before, of reaching into the thick fog placed over your thoughts and pulling out nothing at all.

It only got that bad for two months, but I will never forget the horror of realizing I couldn’t even trust my own mind anymore.

Shang Qinghua’s hands shake slightly, not because he’s nervous but because he has tremors.

One day he forgets to eat for a few days before a meeting and all the peak lords watch in thinly veiled concern and he writes the shakiest notes in history. Only then does Mu Qingfang ask questions and only then does everyone learn that it isn’t just an anxiety thing.

Mu Qingfang gives Shang Qinghua medicine that helps significantly and never lets him live it down.

LMK if they explained what happened to Ao Lie

Aka: LMK if they were based

Imagine they have an episode of LMK where they locate an underground ancient dragon ruin said to contain some powerful weapon, and Mei wants to investigate so she can learn more about her ancestors and also keep up with MK power wise.

So the monkey crew (excluding monkey king) go on a SEA ADVENTURE led mostly by Sandy who is so very excited because it’s been a while since he’s had a reason to get out the submarine. Mei on the other hand gets more nervous as she goes, concerned that the ruin could be a hoax or worse, some ancient tomb that hides a great evil or something. She’s beginning to think maybe she shouldn’t poke around with history.

When they get to the sea floor they find a delapidated temple and for a moment they all question if maybe it really was just a rumor. Then, Mei finds a button on one of the walls and presses it, making the ground shake and split apart, revealing steep stone stairs going down into the deep.

MK makes a clone to go ahead of them in case of traps and they use a flashlight to light the way. On the walls are a sequence of paintings depicting the life of Ao Lie. Most of them are of things the crew already know about like the Journey and the Samhadi fire incident, then it continued. Ao Lie’s body began to grow weak as he struggled to contain his piece of the fire, but still he went on. He fell in love and built a modest home on land, disguising himself as a human and living among the mortals. He had a child, a beautiful little dragon, but his condition worsened over time.

There is a painting of Ao Lie busting into flames, his face contorted into agonizing pain. The crew all stop to stare. MK tries lighten the mood with a pun but it falls flat. Sandy asks Mei if she’s sure she wants to continue. Mei walks forward without answering.

The next painting is of Ao Lie’s child, crying with a piece of the samhadi fire resting in their hands.

The last painting is of Ao Lie in his dragon form covered in red and, crawling into the sea. At the end of the stairs isa wall with some traditional chinese characters carved into the stone. Mr. Tang recognizes a few of them that read “descendant” “open” and “blood”

Mei takes a deep breath before asking everyone else if they are ready

“We are but, are you?” MK asks. Mei looks back at the painting and then at the door.

“Ready as I’ll ever be,” she then presses her hand to the stone and from it flows a green light, there is a click before the door slides open.

On the other side is a small cave and in the center is Ao Lie, looking exactly how he did in the scroll, albeit noticeably older. He smiles brightly at the group, bows slightly, and then coughs loudly

“Apologies, it’s been ages since I’ve spoken, probably, it’s hard to keep track of time is seclusion. Anyway, It’s a pleasure to meet you all!” The crew is gaping at him but Ao Lie does seem to notice as he starts stretching his arms

I feel like in reverse retransmigration AUs where Shen Yuan gets sent back to the modern world, he should get to be a bit weird. A bit bizarre. A bit baffling.

This man spent like the entirety of his twenties and early thirties as a graceful and powerful peak lord in a fantasy novel. That does some weird shit to you I'm sure.

Imagine he gets shot back into his old life, and after freaking out then compartmentalizing everything, he starts incorporating things from his life as Shen Qingqiu into his life now.

I think the funniest way to conceptualize this is through the POV of, like, his sister.

- Shen-mei just got back from college to visit her brother, who got out of a hospital stay a week ago. Last time she saw him, he mostly grumbled about a shitty web novel and binged some anime with her and ate takeout.

- when she gets there, the house is, like, unsettlingly clean.

-When her brother appears, he has hair going to the middle of his fucking back. When asked about it, he just shrugs and says he got extensions. Extensions that look extremely fucking expensive

- It's summer. It's the middle of fucking summer and this man is wearing a collared shirt with a large-sleeved sweater over it, and loose pants. She has not seen him in anything more formal than jeans since her graduation

- he offers tea. She's only ever seen him microwave tea, but before she can decline he whips out a whole traditional tea ceremony tea set. The tea is really fucking good, and he has matching snacks???

- there's new paintings on the wall, when she asks where he got them, he sheepishly admits he painted them. They're incredibly beautiful traditional paintings. She wouldn't believe him if it weren't for... Everything else.

- A curly haired man comes in and introduces himself as A-yuans boyfriend

- A-YUAN HAS A BOYFRIEND??? WHOS A 10???

- AND NAMED LUO BINGHE???

Honestly if I was SYs family I would have just as big a conspiracy board about him being replaced as the peak lords have for SJ. It would be so fucking funny

Headcannon:

Shang Qinghua avoids looking in mirrors

it’s not that Shang Qinghua is insecure about his appearance, in fact he acknowledges that he looks more attractive in his second life than he ever did in his first, it’s simply that Shang Qinghua doesn’t associate his physical appearance with his identity much at all

When he thinks of himself he no longer visualizes any specific biological features and he couldn’t pick himself out of a crowd if everyone was dressed the same. Instead when he thinks of himself he visualizes the clothes he wears and the way he puts up his hair, the stains of his calloused hands and the way he sounds when he snorts.

He isn’t insecure about his body because it is simply the form the system gave him and doesn’t represent have anything to do with who he really is.

He just doesn’t like the reminder that when he looks in the mirror, it’s not his own face staring back at him.
