◇ Backstory ◇

In this AU SQH is the ruler of the Northern desert and meets MBJ while on patrol. It's love at first sight for MBJ but original SQH just sees him as an opportunity.

He uses his love against him and has him playing double agent, rewarding him with affection. Towards the end of the story MBJ realizes that he's being used and confronts SQH. SQH kills him but realizes soon after he was in love with him too.

He's bitter and devastated, this causes him to lower his guard and he's assassinated.

Airplane honestly hated this plot line but did it anyway for the shock value. He made side stories giving them a happy ending just to heal his own heart. MBJ was his favorite character after all.

So when he dies and wakes up as SQH, he does everything in his power to avoid MBJ. Decades go by but fate catches up to them and they meet regardless.

He's terrified that the system will make him kill MBJ, but once he looks into those eyes for the first time he knows he's hooked. He's resigned to the fact that he might die by going against the system to protect the beautiful cultivator.
