My random news feed and news paper emails are full of breaking news! that the Senate passed a funding bill and the government will remain standing! no shutdown happening! With pictures of old white guys with their thumbs up, all happy.
Like, yay! great job, you stopped a government shutdown! look how smart and great our senators are!
Guys, keeping the government from shutting down is the bare minimum of your jobs. In fact, I think that when the government is shut down, politicians should not get paid. Because, in case anyone was wondering, they do. Congress gets paid during a shutdown they caused, while all the other federal workers have to work without pay or get furloughed.
Our government is so divided by parties that it can barely function. Keeping the government running should be bare minimum, it should not be a giant fight, and Congress should instead turn its attention to more important things, like Social Security, taxing billionaires, climate change, ect.

I posted this a while ago, but I wanted to bring it back, in light of everything that has happened. This really isn't a terrible story, or a personal one, but its a basic example of how health insurance is screwed up on its most basic level. It's not denied care, but it shows how insurance companies push on the smallest things to make money.
Health care should not be regulated and controlled by for-profit private companies. Thats it. That's the line in the sand that has been crossed over and over and people are now re-drawing that line and defending it.
Our HR lady told us that our employees are having too many ER visits, and the insurance company is upset that we have gone over the amount we are allowed.
Which is the most bullshit thing ever. ER is literally for emergency and for an insurance company to limit ER visits is so morally reprehensible. We pay a ton of money out of our paycheck to even get the shitty insurance and now they are telling us that no, we aren't getting what we pay for. And we should try "alternatives" before going to ER. Like teledocs.
I swear, this is just a precursor for insurance companies saying you have to go through AI bs before you can go to ER. Like some checklist you have to complete before you get care.
This country I swear to God. It shouldn't even cost hundreds or thousands of dollars just to get medical care in the first place, much less EMERGENCY medical care.

Our view of Wyldon changes as Kel changes. We see the world through her eyes. In the first book she's a child, literally an 10/11 year old girl. Wyldon is responsible for a lot of unfairness in her life, he's really mean to her and she only sees it as him punishing her for being a girl. So of course, we don't like him and only see one side of him. It's a very childish point of view, which is the point.
However, Kel is a perceptive child and raised from a very young age to respect authority and especially teachers, with her background in the Yamani Isles. So we also see some good sides to him, and he comes across as an asshole, but not a villain. Same with Jon, at this point.
But as Kel grows up, her view of the world changes, as is normal for children. Growing up opens your eyes. Children start to notice things and form different and layered opinions. Kel starts to see more of who Wyldon is.
By the end of the series, Kel is basically an adult, and she can see that Wyldon is a man, is human, can make mistakes, can be wrong, can change. We see the many different sides of him, and his reasons for doing certain things.
Our view of Wyldon changes as Kel changes and grows.
reading The Protector of the Small quartet again for the ????th time (could be as many as the twentieth or more tbh, they're sorta my top comfort reads) and my brain keeps being stuck on Wyldon's character this time around. like he's just FASCINATING. I've rarely read a character who is presented as such a complete fucking asshole who does such a 180 in my estimation in a way that's nuanced and COMPLETELY EARNED, while still staying the same fundamental person at the core, and still being allowed to be flawed. (because oh boy he is flawed) I rank him with Zuko in Top Fantasy Character Redemptions of All Time. I hate him. I love him. some thoughts from this read-through: -he's autistic. like he's just SO very autistic it almost hurts, and half of the reason Kel and him end up eventually understanding and respecting each other so well is exactly for this reason. he's so This Is the Way Things Should Be Done Because The Rules Say So and he is SO rigid and specific but also he EVOLVES and that's a fascinating dichotomy -this is also the SAME reason that Neal and him get along like oil on water, because they are both autistic but Opposite, it's like the personality equivalent of trying to get two hedgehogs to hug -that being said Lord Wyldon RESPECTS Neal in a really bizarre way, or at least understands him? He'd never admit that but that one moment in Lady Knight when he's explaining to Kel about why he picked her for Haven's commander, and he says that he CONSIDERED Neal FOR THE JOB? but said that he thought Neal was 'too fair' and essentially that he would simultaneously care too much and be too irreverent with the refugees, not be objective like Kel would be? again. fascinating. -Owen being Wyldon's squire is such a wild combination of personalities that ALSO should not work at all, because Owen is pure !!!! and Wyldon is like :/, but then my brain was like: oh. Owen is basically a over-excited puppy and Wyldon loves dogs -when Kel rescues Lalasa at the end of Page & passes out, then wakes up to Wyldon and her mum in the room and her mum is arguing with Wyldon about Kel's schedule and stuff. I somehow never really registered before that she FIRST NAMES HIM. She calls him Wyldon, not Lord Wyldon, and is comfortable enough to berate him. do they fucking KNOW EACH OTHER from when they were younger? WHAT IS THE STORY THERE? now I'm remembering when Wyldon got all surprised to hear the story of Illane fighting off the Scanran bandits and saving the sacred swords of the Yamani Islands. hm. interesting. much to consider.
-the bit where Wyldon is like OH SHIT the pages nearly got killed because tradition dictates I don't teach them actual battle strategy and tactics. and I fucking love tradition but I also love pages not being dead, so I guess I better get my shit together on that one.
-or when he QUITS as training master because he's like 'damn toxic masculinity fucked these kids up and I'm kinda partially to blame for that. I gotta get my shit together', and he's like the best thing that came out of being training master was having you as a page. and acknowledges he nearly fucked that up too? -while we're on the subject of 'what went through Wyldon's head' WHEN KEL RAN OFF TO SCANRA AND THEN CAME BACK HAVING BASICALLY WON THE WAR FOR THEM? AND HE WAS SO DISCOMBOBULATED HE ACCIDENTALLY AGREED WITH NEAL? -speaking of the end of Page earlier, i wanna read or possibly write a fic about what went through Wyldon's head when Kel didn't show up to the big examinations, because I think that's SUCH a turning point for his character. Like yes he respected Kel and let her stay before that, but the way he's so clearly kicking himself in the aftermath, going to far as to rope in Duke Turomot, and INVOKE THE GODDESS IN HIS PRAYER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER.... what happened when he had to give the command to start the examinations without her? Like it really struck me that he must have thought 'oh. she gave up after all' and I think part of him might have been disappointed, and part of him *relieved* because he was still clinging to those old attitudes despite everything. And to find out he was wrong? That she hadn't given up, but had sacrificed everything she had worked for in the finest single demonstration of true chivalry and courage he had probably ever witnessed from a page? like damn. Lord Wyldon of Cavall you funky, fucked up man, I want to study you like a bug

My grandma got cancer, and had to go through months and months of chemo. The insurance only paid for some of it. My grandparents spent their entire life savings to pay for my grandma's cancer treatment. Now, my grandparents are on social security and Medicare, and just trying to scrape by and save as much money as they can.
We found out a few months ago that my grandpa likely has dementia. And they have no money for care because they spent it all on my grandma's cancer treatment.
People's life savings should not be spent on medical bills! We do not work most of our lives, pay insurance most of our lives, only to have to spend all of our savings on medical bills that insurance should pay for.
Health Insurance companies comit theft. We pay them money out of every paycheck, just in case of a life-threatening injury or disease. And then when the unthinkable happens, we are told that our claim is denied. And then after everything, we keep paying for insurance! We paid the insurance company, and now they keep our money and tell us they won't do the thing we paid them for. THIS IS THEFT.
If I pay a house cleaner to pay my house, and they see the house and decide they can't clean it after all, they would give my money back! If they kept my money and didn't clean my house, that would be theft! How can health insurance companies get away with theft on such a large scale?

I dont know if this counts, but I have a lot of dreams where I can't open my eyes. I need to find something or do something but I cannot open my eyes. And of course it's because in real life I'm sleeping and my eyes are closed. But it's very frustrating in my dream, and it happens a lot.
I also get a lot of lucid dreams where I wake up and think something is actually happening. Many times I've woken up convinced a creature is under my bed, and I will grab my tazer, look under the bed, and then see nothing is there and go back to bed, feeling unsettled. Or I am convinced that part of the ceiling is going to fall in, so I get up and move some things so they wont be under the ceiling. Then I wake up in the morning and realize what I did.
everyone has dreams about being lost at school, late to work, cant find bathroom etc but whats yalls most common Uncommon stress dream. ill always have dreams about having various problems with my fish tank

Fanfic idea, Modao Zushi / Harry Potter crossover.
After everything, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji cultivate into immortality, maybe with some of the others like Jin Ling, A-Yaun, Jiang Cheng, ect.
Thousands of years pass, and Jiang Yanli is reincarnated into the body of Harry Potter. Either Harry is a girl in this one, or a boy with some gender confusion. Yanli doesn't have her memories, but some of the personality leaks through.
Harry loves cooking, feels like they are missing something/someone important, and is very quiet but sweet and surprisingly kind. Maybe they get into Hufflepuff, but I would say Gryffindor would suit them well.
In Hogwarts, Harry goes on adventures like cannon, but has a lot of friends and is very nurturing and is very helpful. They find the kitchens very quickly.
During the fourth year, the tournament happens, and a Cultivation School is part of it. Either one of the cultivator professors notices something is off with Harry's soul, or on the the MDZS cast is there and things get crazy fast.
And in comes over-protective brothers, brother in laws, and a son ready to throw hands and fierce corpses at anyone who even looks at Harry wrong. Voldemort is taken care of, and the shit hits the fan when Wei Wuxian finds out about the Dursleys.
I also just really like the idea of Harry with a few blurry memories and emotions interacting with WWX and JC. Maybe they don't tell Harry what is happening and Harry has no idea why these foreign powerful wizards are suddenly so interested in them.
#i cant write very well#so if anyone wants to take my idea please go ahead#i would love to read it fully fleshed out#fanfiction#mo dao zu shi#the untamed#harry potter#jiang yanli#wei wuxian#fandom#fic ideas

I noticed on my countless re-watch that the area where Isha falls on Jinx is filled with Firelight symbols. My guess is that Isha was running from the mines to the Firelight territory, which is why those gas mask guess were chasing her, they probably lose people and kids to the Firelights all the time and try to make examples of the people that run. Mines need workers.
Isha was running to the Firelights and Ekko and was saved by Jinx instead. Which is interesting...

I understand the point of Jayce telling Viktor he is not broken, that he doesn't need to be prefect, but if the only way to permanently fix my chronic pain was to delve into forbidden magic and add some machinery into my body, I'd dive in without hesitation.
#that was something that irked me#i loved arcane#but Jayce's big speech in the end#that is part of you#was super ableist to say#spoken by an abled body person#yeah Jayce hurt his leg#but he hadnt had to live with that unending pain in everyday life#and Viktor was literally sick and dying#did he go too far#yes#but still#arcane#arcane season 2#viktor#jayce talis#jayce

Awww someone used my post! Thanks!
I also want to point out that the Hextech was pushed too far because of politics.
First, they didn't test it as much as they could have, like Hemierdinger wanted. Instead, Mel and the Council pushed the use of Hextech through because of the money it would make them. They were worried it would explode, and instead of making sure it wouldn't, Jayce and Viktor put the Hexcore deep underground, so if/when it did explode, it wouldn't hurt Piltover. But it would've hurt Zaun. They also might have realized the impact of wild runes on nature with further testing.
Also, they constantly used the Hexgate for trade. It became the new bridge, being used over and over again as a shipping lane. That wasn't to help anyone. It wasn't one singular weapon like the gauntlets, or something like an air purifier that would've been a single use item that actually helped people. Instead, Piltover used Hextech to move ships through the quantum/arcane realm constantly for years. There is no real reason to do that, except to save money on travel and get higher trade for Piltover. Which directly benefited the rich people and no one else.
So the Arcane reacted to Hextech being overused, and the reason it was overused was greed and politics.
I think this one line in episode 3 sums up what didnt work for me in season 2 and that is the idea that the arcane problem is not eminently political
#sure viktor healing people was probably a pretty big use of arcane#but i dont think it has the same effect as moving entire ships through a quantum realm#for years#many times a day#arcane spoilers#arcane#arcane season 2#hextech

I have to say...the one thing I wanted in Arcane that was missing was Ambessa directly fighting someone from Zaun. Jinx, Ekko, Sevika, Vi, ect. Anyone. I think their general crazy would have at least made it a fun fight. Ekko or Jinx especially.

Best relationship advice my mom gave to me:
Take your boyfriend on a canoe trip. Or some other difficult and stressful activity you are familiar with. Now, I'm a lesbian, but this will work for any gender, but it especially works well with straight couples, and a girl testing a man.
My mom grew up on the river, and knows how to canoe very well. Her first test is to see if the boyfriend will let her steer if she insists. (Fof those who don't know, the person sitting in the back is the one who steers and controls the canoe. The other person is just there to add to the paddling power.) If the boyfriend insisted on steering, it was a huge red flag.
Then they would go on a long, all day canoe trip. It was a perfect test to see if the boyfriend would work with her, take her directions and listen to her advice about something she knows better than him. Also, it was a great way to see how the boyfriend would react to a somewhat stressful, exhausting and unfamiliar activity, where two people have no choice but to work together and are stuck in a tiny boat all day.
If her boyfriend was still nice, polite and good natured during and after the canoe trip, she knew he would be a keeper.
(My dad was also pretty familiar with canoeing, but he still let my mom steer, and spent a lot of the time fishing while my mom sunbathed in the back. He also would jump out and drag the canoe through shallow spots.)
This works not just for canoeing, but any stressful activity you are good at, especially if it requires cooperation. If a man can't handle a canoe trip or bike ride or camping trip or whatever, he can't handle being married to you.
