James finds Regulus sitting on the floor at the end of a dark corridor in the middle of the night.

He’s only lit by the pale, blue light of the moon shining through a window and the soft, golden glow of the candles along the castle walls. James approaches slowly, but in the quiet of the night, it’s not hard to hear him coming.

“You and that damn map.” Regulus says without looking away from the window.

James smirks slightly as he closes the distance between them. “Did you not want me to find you?” James asks knowingly.

Regulus turns away from the window to narrow his eyes at James but doesn’t answer. James smiles at his silences and Regulus rolls his eyes. James nods his head slightly to the spot beside Regulus. Regulus shrugs but there’s also the hint of a small nod and James takes that as an affirmative and slides down beside him.

James mirrors Regulus with his knees casually bent in front of him and lets his hand rest on the floor between them. It’s only a moment before Regulus’ hand settles beside his, close enough that Regulus is able to brush their pinkies together.

“What are you doing here, Potter?” Regulus whispers.

James links their pinkies and whispers back, “You’re kind of hard to stay away from, Black.”

“Try harder.” Regulus huffs.

“Do you want me to stay away?”

“You should.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

Regulus sighs and lets his head fall back on the wall behind him. James unlinks their pinkies and flips his hand over. Without looking, Regulus instantly slides his hand into James’, interlocking their fingers.   

“This just wouldn’t be smart.” Regulus says.  

James turns to look at Regulus, rubbing his thumb soothingly on his hand.  

“Reg?” James lightly squeezes his hand.

Regulus turns to look at James and they hold each other’s gaze for a moment.

“We shouldn’t do this, James” Regulus says as he leans towards James.  

James leans to meet Regulus in the middle and lifts his hand to cup his cheek. “What do you want, Reg?” James asks again.  

Regulus is quiet for a long moment. “I don’t want you to stay away.” He finally whispers, and it’s barely a breath.

James smiles softly as he tucks a curl behind Regulus’ ear and lets his fingers settle on his neck. But it’s Regulus that closes the distant and finally lets their lips meet.

I keep seeing people talking about how Dorcas was killed by Voldemort himself and completely misinterpreting it as “she was so strong and powerful that only he could kill her,” which might’ve been what happened, but I feel like probably wasn’t the case seeing as he’s killed plenty of random people throughout the series and she was only really mentioned that one time.

But there could’ve been some other reason as well, rather than “oh yeah she was just really really powerful.” What if the reason Voldemort targeted Dorcas was because she kept talking to her old friends from Slytherin and making them question their loyalties and whatnot, and had even managed to make a few death eaters drop out of the war? Sure, she was a dangerous enemy to have, but what if another layer of that danger for Voldemort’s side was her way with words?

Imagine Dorcas fighting in the war and seeing her old classmates that she quite literally lived with for seven years fighting against her. Imagine Pandora telling her the reason why she couldn’t bring herself to join the order, despite how much she wanted to help, was because she couldn’t make herself do anything to hurt Evan. Imagine her continuing to fight with all her strength, but then tracking down the death eaters she knew from school just to see if she could talk them out of it.

Evan and Barty stayed, of course. They were loyal to Voldemort till the end but they would always leave her, one of the order’s best duellists, completely unscathed. But others would listen to her, growing more uncertain and starting to hold back more or try to leave the death eaters completely. She was a Slytherin after all. She would’ve had both the ambition and drive to find these death eaters individually, and the cunning in her words to make them question their loyalties.

Maybe Voldemort went after her after Regulus died, because he thought she had something to do with him betraying him, and maybe she actually did. Maybe she had talked to him, even if it was Kreacher that was the turning point, and he had to kill her himself because she could genuinely make them lose the war if she kept doing what she was doing. Maybe the power she had that Voldemort feared so much was the power to turn his own forces on him. The power to destroy his forces without a single weapon or wand.

i like the idea that lily is one of the smartest people in hogwarts but she's also just like

very clumsy. she drops things, she trips on air, and she's very unlucky too, gum sticks randomly on her hair (mary or marlene always cuts the tips of her hair every month or so because of that), and everytime something like that happens, she makes an odd sound as she snorts and laughs.

because yes, she's clumsy and unlucky, but she's surprisingly positive about it, she finds everything to be very funny, and mary and marlene are so used to it by now that they're always ready to hold her before she falls, take her out of the way of something that's being thrown, or just hold something she dropped before it breaks.

i like lily being a bit of a mess, let her be a bit of a failgirl as a treat, she's adorable, and she's a genius!!!!

(also, mary can't help but look so, so fond and in love with her whenever lily laughs when she trips on the hem of her robes, like she makes the entire day brighter just by smiling)
