Chapter 9 is OUT everyone!!!

Am I the asshole for k*lling myself in front of the past version of my father?

I (14M) accidentally went back in time and killed myself in front of the teenage version of my father (17M). Now, I know this sounds crazy, but there is a valid reason for why I did it. For one, I am cursed with immortality and cannot die. I also recently found out that the curse was inherited by my father (yes, he also has immortality).

I know you may be asking “Hey, why did you go back in time in the first place?” Well, I was tasked with a very important mission (which I won’t get into at the moment), but unfortunately, the Time Machine ended up sending me too far back. I’ve been trying so hard to figure out how to get back to my original timeline, I even broke into an abandoned lab to see if I could find anything useful. But nothing has worked!

The only other option I had was to get help from the very scientists who created the machine in the first place. Which is— you guessed it, MY FATHER!

Unfortunately, my father wasn’t a famous, genius scientist in this timeline, he’s actually still a teenager here! He doesn’t even know anything about advanced astrophysics for god’s sake!!! Still, I went to him and knocked on his door in hopes he would at least believe I’m his son, and could even assist me in some way (there’s gotta be something useful in that brain of his).

As it turned out, he didn’t believe me. He thought it was all a prank from one of his friends who always messed with him. Of course, I kept trying and trying, even told him things only family members would know. But still— nothing.

Then, I got struck by an idea: “My dad has the same curse of immortality as me... and even when we die, no one in the world remembers. Only us two.” So as a final attempt to convince him I’m his future son, I grabbed a sharp piece of glass and slit my throat.

Now, I know that was very extreme of me, but it was the only thing I could think of! There isn’t really a gentle way of dying. And yeah, it probably traumatized him (from what I could tell), but it doesn’t matter. I can com back to life! Good as new. But was there another way, or anything else I could’ve said or done to convince him I am his future son? Am I the asshole?

Update: the stunt worked and he now fully believes that I'm his son from the future! Everyone who downvoted me, suck my balls.

So… Um…

I’m going to have to split Chapter 9 of IWMOY into THREE parts 🧍‍♂️…. (for both your and my sanity)

I seriously underestimated how much I wanted to expand on the world building, and I do admit, I may have enjoyed getting more descriptive.

I wasn’t planning to make it that long, and was even thinking of getting rid of some scenes all together, but I feel like it would take away so much of the story and why Cooper is the way he is.

Because it’s around 25k words (unedited), I’ll split the sections and work on them as I’m publishing each chapter durout the week.
