i really think that the hells have taken trust to mean something that it really isnt, and are all conveniently forgetting each others histories in order to push their preferred brand of "trust" without really trying to explain themselves
#cr spoilers#dont get me wrong i love it#i love inter party conflict and the little rough edges grating on each other#this all really goes to show how the hells are somewhat less aware of each other in a way#so much terrible shit has happened to them in such a short amount of time#they havent had the chance to really settle and talk abt most of it#its always been a rush to get to the next thing. constantly playing catch up to ludinus who always seems one step ahead no matter what#the little nana morri trust retreat was a good idea in theory (and somewhat in practice!)#but it feels like theyre lacking the tools to actually discuss the Big issues#the small stuff? sure they can handle that#they all trust each other with their lives in combat#when they can unite against a common enemy#but as weve seen. its when the threat isnt imminent that the really rough patches start to show through#i adore it so much#delilah briarwood thank you so much for your service you fucked up bitch

specifically looking at the hewitts since granted i know more on the remakes than the others but,
the hewitts only got vague, limited police action looking into them in '03 after erin chops thomas' arm off and gets away. and even though theres' coverage of it and everything, that literally ONLY happens after 4-5 straight years of the hewitts doing what they do, from 69-73 in terms of solely the remake timeline.
that's still a shitton of time to be ACTIVELY killing people to y'know. not fucking die yourselves. then combine that with the sawyers - their additional family members, their own trails of ruthlessness added into the mix, and this entire combined family unit likely has kill counts all around in the hundreds if not even way past that.
but even with the police involvement in the remakes?
its all SO SLOPPY, its hardly conducted with any real CARE about their own well-beings. like??? ya'll went into that house while THOMAS was STILL THERE... didnt even SECURE THE HOUSE.....
and even with the found footage? no arrests, presumably. the remaining hewitts are still at large, thomas is still at large. like... all ya'll did was corral them to their fucking confusing ass tunnel system and made luda (if we count the comics) far more involved and ruthless in the actual killings than she was in the movies lol
and yes technically speaking with charlie's death that could sever the stronghold they've got on the police and sheriffs' around them - but at the same time - how bad would it look of them to SUDDENLY flip a switch and try to unpack the years worth of missing persons, cold cases, murders, kidnappings, break-ins, assaults, etc etc that they swept under the rug? that's WAY too much man power, esp for back then. no one is gonna do that shit.
so. i truly dont think they have much to worry about even in the event of charlie dying - because the fear and influence they've instilled stands for law enforcement to continue to do fuck all - to save and cover their own asses.

and it goes without saying that the state of art history/visual culture video essay youtube is a bit dire. in that it like, doesnt exist outside of a few one off videos by general youtubers, decade old recordings of lectures, and random short text to speech videos that are likely ai generated
#we know the wonderful jacob geller whos afraid of red yellow and blue essay#and drapetomania is really fantastic especiall on the visual culture side of things especially with race#(which is one of my biggest personal areas of interest so i might be biased LOL but someone has to be biased about this)#(unrelated but sometimes im in my art history classes which. while in recent years have become slightly more diverse)#(still lean quite white and like. they do their best. theyre willing to listen. but theres a lot of blindspots)#(so the least i can do is be really loud and mixed race in class HDJKFKDF)#but its rough if someone wants some to know more of the beginner stuff. like more accessible for some of the basics#like not just the basics of the theory aspects (although that is important) but also like the basics of the history aspects#hell i have a lot of blindspots with certain eras and movements. dont ask me about medieval art i dont know like anything 😔#i dunno i think theres a gap in educational focused youtube that could be filled? it could be fun#not by me though i cant read a script for shit LOL if u want the bmpmp3 art history video essay then find me irl in a museum and ask me a#question and i will give you my entire bachelors degree in the next hour or two. like nature intended for us art history majors
