It all started as a joke. I had no idea who to take as my plus one, so I did what any rational person would do—I tweeted.

"So... I need a date for my first movie premiere. @paigebueckers, what's good? 👀"

Then I posted the same thing on Instagram with a picture of me fake-proposing to an Oscar statue from set. It was meant to be lighthearted, a little funny. I had been a fan of Paige for years, and UConn fans were relentless. I figured a few of my new followers from the movie might hype it up for fun.

What I didn’t expect was for it to blow up overnight.

My notifications were chaos. UConn fans, my own fans, random sports pages—everyone was tagging Paige. Memes. Edits. The whole internet was basically playing matchmaker. It was both hilarious and terrifying.

Then, the next morning, I saw the notification.

paigebueckers: "👀 Sounds fun. You still need a date?"

I had to reread it like five times.

She DMed me. Paige Bueckers actually DMed me.

It felt surreal having Paige Bueckers, actual basketball star, knocking on my hotel room door. She looked casual but effortlessly cool in a tailored lavender suit, her blonde hair pinned up in a way that made my brain short-circuit.

"Ready, superstar?" she grinned, offering me her arm.

Somehow, I managed to function enough to get into the car with her. We chatted on the way, and I tried to act like I wasn’t internally freaking out. But the moment we pulled up and the cameras started flashing, my body locked up.

Paige got out first, then circled around to open the door for me. I wanted to move. I really did. But my chest tightened, my hands shook, and suddenly it felt like I couldn’t breathe.

"Hey," Paige’s voice was soft but firm as she crouched down, reaching for me leaning into the SUV. Her hands gently cradled my face, thumbs brushing over my cheeks. "Look at me, okay?"

I barely managed to lift my eyes, but hers were steady, grounding.

"Breathe in," she instructed. I did. "Now out."

I followed her lead, mirroring her slow, measured breaths.

"You’re good," she reassured me. "You belong here. And I got you, alright?"

I nodded, and she gave me one of those easy, Paige Bueckers smiles that could probably end wars.

"That’s my girl."

Somehow, I managed to get out of the car and onto the red carpet, Paige right beside me. The rest of the night was a blur of flashing cameras, interviews, and surreal moments, but Paige was the one thing that kept me grounded.

After the premiere, we ended up at an In-N-Out in full glam, eating burgers in the parking lot and laughing like we’d known each other forever.

That night, we exchanged numbers.

We kept in touch. At first, it was casual—texts, FaceTime calls, inside jokes. But then it became something. Paige was the person I called when I was stressed, when I had good news, when I just wanted to talk.

So when my second premiere came around, I didn’t post a joke about needing a date. I didn’t have to.

Paige texted me two days before:

Paige: "I’m free that night. Wanna go together?"

Me: "Like… as my date?"

Paige: "Well, duh. I thought we established that at In-N-Out."

I didn’t even know how to respond, but I smiled at my phone for an embarrassing amount of time.

Somehow, Paige and I had gone from a joke tweet to walking the Met Gala red carpet together—as wives.

She looked effortlessly stunning in a soft bule, black, purpleish,pink, grey suit, her marble-finished wedding band catching the light. I had a sterling silver set with an emerald-cut chocolate diamond that Paige had picked out herself.

As we walked down the carpet, photographers caught the moment we intertwined our fingers, flashing our matching rings. The buzz around us was deafening.

Then came the Glambot.

Paige pulled me close, her hand resting at the small of my back. The camera glided toward us in slow motion, and just as it reached the perfect angle—she kissed me.

Soft, warm, perfect.

I could already see the internet losing its mind again.

But at that moment, I didn’t care about the cameras, the fame, or the flashing lights.

All that mattered was Paige. And the fact that somehow, a joke tweet had led me to the love of my life.

(Also I first started reading this before taking sign langauge classes, and while I am learning a different SL to ASL/whatever Slate is using, some things translate well. Which is to say I was very excited seeing Loft use thank you and other small signs, or recognising Slate's signs. Its very cool!)

first of all. this was posted in 2023. what do u mean it's 2025 and im only on ch2. explodes. ANYWAY.

I'm still proud of myself this this panel thing w the arrow lol where it's both coming towards the octorok and has already gone through it. this is something that didn't rlly end up making it into the final product but I don't think Slate actually makes a habit of just killing monsters willy nilly. I don't see him hunting down every monster in Hyrule after the calamity ends. He kills this octorok bc they antagonize the horses but also because. I needed an excuse for his bow to already be out HAHA

I have complicated feelings about the yiga and what their lore implies lol but for Slate's part, he has personal beef with them on account of how many times they're tried and nearly succeeded in killing him. I like to imagine the Yiga as both deeply goofy and also a serious threat at the same time lol, which i think sums up how Slate feels about them.

I did however want to take this opportunity to show his capacity to be a brutal fighter, the same way Loft is in the opening of ch1. Actually the idea for this scene even came about because in my own late-stage game I kept getting attacked by a blademaster literally every 2 feet in certain regions, and I was getting so frustrated by it I just started obliterating them with ancient arrows 💀 Slate using way more arrows than necessary was a nod to that. idk maybe this guy lived lol

this scene was also to spur comparisons between Slate and Loft's experiences. Loft is brutal with monsters, but he's never killed a human being. Realizing that the Yiga aren't monsters shocks him.

this is a failure of my own paneling bc I didn't have enough room on the page and refused to add another, but Loft is hallucinating this guardian being active. all the guardians are inactive since defeating the calamity. actually what I should have done was add a red targeting line that then disappeared in the next panel. MAN.

alright and probably what you actually wanted commentary on, first Champion sighting! The first time Slate actually sees Champion is at the end of ch1, so if you're wondering if Slate knows he's there in this scene, the answer is no. I think rather than following Slate around all along, Champion has spent most of his time just sort of. barely existing here at Fort Hateno, or sitting with the master sword. He's not exactly like the ghosts of the other champions, or King Rhoam. sorry buddy :-(

i do have a bonus comic the works re: ghost lore that I will hopefully finish. someday so I think that might answer some questions ppl have. and possibly introduce a few more. but on the whole I like to keep whatever's going on here a little ambiguous. like I said in this update's commentary, one part literal and one part metaphorical. maybe two parts metaphorical lol

Have been working on this 10 volume set for the past few months now, and they are finally complete. My Magnum Opus. I have peaked and probably depleted all of my brain power.

Thank you to @motswolo for writing such a beautiful story. My brain chemistry has been favourably altered. Will forever flinch when I hear Queen, The Beatles or Bob Dylan. Love to you from western Canada (west coast best coast lets gooooo).

Going to write a whole essay below about the ideas and details because uhhh I wanna yap bit!

So for starters, I wanted to make these binds look like magazines because of the epilogue where (spoiler) Tonya sees Remus in a copy of New Musical Express. But of course this fic is long, so I was like, what if I do multiple volumes? This very quickly spiralled into me painstakingly (finding publication-accurate fonts almost sent me to an early grave) recreating 10 different music-focused magazines from the 70s and 80s from scratch (thank you to Photoshop, Affinity, Procreate and Canva). Each volume features a unique cover, along with stylized typesets to match that display the songs for each chapter but in different designs. And then I went a little crazy and made a 45 sleeve and a cassette too, to really set the scene when I took the photos lol

While the covers display the dates pertaining to the contents of that particular volume (Sept 1975 for volume one, for example) I was thinking about what the magazines would say if they were really published when Marauders are traipsing about being spectacular and famous in the future. I sprinkled in details from the fic itself and fanon-ed it a bit, but that was the general inspiration :-) Tried to keep the photos used either faceless/obscured, or to use the fancasts on Mots’ Cadence master post. I also tried to use period-accurate photos but didn’t always succeed, so settled for photos of 4 member bands where I had to :”) But the general intent with the facelessness was that they could be implied to be Marauders. If you squint? lol. Just pretend. Pls.

Volume One: Based upon The Record Song Book. This magazine went on to inspire the typesets, since it publishes lyrics and such. The cover images are of Spacey Jane and David Thewlis.

Volume Two: Based on ZigZag, specifically the issue from July 1978 featuring Siouxie and the Banshees just because I thought it looked sick as fuck. I re-drew the abstract shapes and such in procreate. The cover images are The Clash and a young Gary Oldman. Lord he was foiiine.

Volume Three: Based on Trouser Press, November 1980. The cover images are a young Metallica, and my personal fav fan cast for James, Reiky De Valk. The film negatives are from a Bruce Springsteen tour, 1976.

Volume Four: Based on Gay Times (November 1984), a queer magazine from the UK because this volume contains Wolfstars first kiss hehe. Also hence Somebody To Love plastered all over the covers. The Front cover is Inhaler. The “4A” on this one is of course the boys’ dorm number, but I made the A the lambda symbol as this was a pride symbol in the 70s after Stonewall.

Volume Five: Based on Melody Maker. Front image is Alex Turner. All of the text on this one is pulled directly from the fic. The scene where they all drop acid and James jumps off the roof Almost Famous style had me hootin’ and hollerin’… until Tomny showed up hahaha :”)

Volume Six: Based on IT (International Times, Aug 1971). Front image for this one is Joy Division, and the back features Jane Asher for Lily

Volume Seven: Based on Record Mirror, June 1976. Front image is John Taylor of Duran Duran. Yum.

Volume Eight: Based on Rolling Stone. More vibes than anything for this one, but the quote still makes me laugh.  Front image is of Matt Hitt. Can you tell I photoshopped a cell phone out of this one? IDK. This photo just screamed ‘Remus’ to me so I had to use it. The back image is an old cigarette ad, but the photo is taken in Shepherd’s Bush.

Volume Nine: Based on Fusion magazine. Front image for this one is once again Inhaler. Oops. Back cover is our gals. Images are Jodie Foster as Cherry, Brenda Sykes as Mary, and Goldie Hawn as Lottie.

Volume Ten: Based on New Musical Express. You know why :”) These are all victims of fanon, but this one especially. I wanted it to be NME instead of the re-invented logos I’d been doing for all the rest, as I wanted it to look like the magazine the Sister gives to Tonya. I referred to an issue of NME from October 1979 for this and layered in fic references where it made sense to. The cover image for this one is (I think) Cigarettes After Sex. This issue also contains all of the B-Side chapters, and the Marauders song lyrics too just for fun :)

Slasher Chick: This is just my take on what Sybill’s zine could’ve looked like. Prob way off but I just wanted to have fun with this one since I had no cover to reference lol. The zine contains her little write-up and the interview, lifted straight from the fic :")

it’s soooooo over for you all. i have seen the light (coryo). i have tasted the forbidden fruit (no..not coryo). i have held hands with fate and made out with destiny in a dark corner of a new york rooftop bar (coryo!!!!).

hi. so. i shifted. with this method.

and listen, the universe is a freak. it’ll knock the wind out of you, throw you down the stairs, steal your wallet, and then, while you’re still gasping for air, go, ‘oh, my bad. here’s a gift card. also, you can shift now.’ so. hi. i’m back. i lived in my better cr for three months. an entire fiscal quarter. and now i’m here again, blinking in the fluorescent light of this reality, trying to form sentences like a war vet just back from the frontlines.

what do i even say? where do i begin? i guess the first day. let’s set the scene: september 20th. autumn in new york. cinematic. LET'S GOOOO.

i shifted back. cried. obviously. cried some more. then locked in (queen never crumbles) and promptly lost my entire mind on the balcony. squealing, jumping, doing the full carrie bradshaw excited little twirl in paris before she got fucked over the russian short guy. if my neighbours were watching, they were getting a show.

i got dressed for school. threw on something casually devastating. drank matcha on the way as i picked up lily-rose. business as usual, except i was vibrating at a higher frequency than ever before. every nerve ending in my body was singing. i was so happy.

then. okay. i know i said i got with coryo. and i did. (everyone say: ‘she won.’) but. not yet. patience. restraint. delayed gratification. all that. i saw him that first day, and did i think about jumping him? yes. did i? no. but he winked at me.like the absolute menace he is. imagine me, gripping my books like a regency heroine whose gloved hand was just brushed by a suitor. i nearly blacked out. then it was onto the usual: maths, english, lunch, philosophy, p.e. (where i spent the full hour contemplating coryo in gym clothes. blessings upon this timeline), history.

post-school, me, lily-rose, and malina (@chaaistained you made a cameo, my ride-or-die) went shopping on fifth ave because of course we did. the girls were girl-ing. capitalism was capitalism-ing. i know you’re nodding. i know you get it. we all get it. then home. girl dinner. filmed some deeply unserious tiktoks. stalked coryo’s instagram (two days apart and i was already checking for potential threats. he had none. heh). chatted with my car, caesar. absolute king. i was, in a word, thriving.

and now i know what you’re thinking. ‘emma. you were there for three months. why didn’t you stay longer?’ and lovies, i hear you. i do. but last time shifting ate me alive and spat me out, so we’re doing things differently now. a little here, a little there. back and forth, like a woman with multiple lovers in different countries. balance. we're ed recovering this stuff.

oh ! also. minor detail but i started an anonymous page in the shifting community over there. what’s it about?????? well. let’s just say i’ve been documenting.

Hi there, @youryurigoddess! I was paged to your awesome post in the comments & I love that you're looking at the magic shop, too. I really enjoyed reading your thoughts. Your post got my brain humming so hope you don't mind a little response.

I loved your observation here with this trick. Your description to me sounds like it is really emphasizing how the trick is a metaphor for a fall. People literally going all the way Up only to come down in pieces. Mrs. Sandwich's shop sign and how we go up one at a time, no pairs.

It's a fall in general and maybe also related to several of the stories more specifically? The assistant falling and the magician gathering him up and helping making him whole again sounds just like Crowley & Aziraphale's story to me.

You could also argue it's relevance in S2 is also related to Gabriel. He fell in pieces to Earth-- his mind separated a bit from his body-- and he had to gather them and bring them to the magician and his assistant (Aziraphale & Crowley) for help in being resurrected. Makes me think also of the pub being called The Resurrectionist and that place/that action being the connective tissue in the story of the main characters. Gabriel and Beez's story is a bit like this as well-- the trick feels like an overall metaphor for a fall.

Like you, I think that there's a ton of stuff happening with the magic tricks in the shop. If you go back a bit, we first got to the shop in 1941 in one of the most meta scenes in the series and I think that scene tells us a bit more about where to take things with the magic tricks.

As Aziraphale rehearsed his coin trick, he had two, very different types of audiences-- Crowley and The Nazi Zombie Flesheaters-- creating meta commentary on anti-intellectualism by showing us their differing responses. The Nazis are complete and utter zombies, in the sense that they literally have been trailing Aziraphale around all night, know he's a magician who is going to perform later, are watching him perform a coin trick, and still cannot put together that his magic words are his version of "abracadabra", let alone any significance to why he chose those words in particular. They are the worst possible kind of audience-- incurious, unimaginative, lacking in critical thinking, not interested in making connections.

On the other end of the engagement spectrum, though?

There's Crowley, representing us here on the Tumblr Dot Com. We're sitting up close, watching with rapt, nerdy, often pretty horny attention 😂, and we're the ones who are looking closely enough to understand all the different levels of Aziraphale's coin trick-- including that his coin trick is, on one level, really about how both language and the story as a whole is structured in Good Omens. We're the ones who are deep diving for coins at the bottom of the pool and getting richer than rich as a result because the story is really built for us.

As you might notice, though? There's a bit of a problem here...

That bit of a problem is that the majority of people watching Good Omens, just as is the case with anybody consuming any work of art? They are somewhere in the middle of these two groups. They aren't intellectual zombies who don't bother with critical thinking and who lack imagination but they aren't all people who enjoy getting quite as granular as, uh, you and I, OP, and anyone reading our posts. 😂

And, as every writer knows, a story should absolutely be written for the people like you and I to have an absolute ball with but it also has to sometimes be a little less subtle in order to get its message across to people watching it a bit more casually. I'm not saying 'dumbed down' here-- I'm saying just being a bit more overt at times. It all has to work on a more surface level, too.

On a meta level, that's what Crowley and Aziraphale are talking about when Crowley tells Aziraphale that the coin trick is more of a trick for "close quarters" (and lol at the coin pun there) but what has to be done in the pivotal 1941, Part 2, on stage in one of the story's most important scenes? That has to be what?

*jazz hands* Biggah.

Then, Crowley then suggests that they must be able to just go buy a trick-- metaphorically, to use something with a proven track record in helping audiences to understand things. On one, meta level, the magic shop = a writer's bag of tricks. Things like tropes and common metaphors in stories exist for reasons. If wielded with some innovation, they can be really effective because people can more easily recognize what they're looking at and understand the story better as a result.

So, our two go to the meta-laden Magic Shop of Metaphors, where Pat starts offering them what are, really, storytelling options-- all of which are also part of the story we're watching. He offers them a box of darkness with a little bird on top of it without explaining the trick and Aziraphale rejects it-- rejecting for that night in 1941 the "no nightingales" that will be the end of the story in S2 in the present and helping to illustrate how The Bullet Catch's success is the opposite of everything falling apart in the end of S2.

Pat shows them The Professor's Nightmare-- a trick where three different lengths of rope are put together and then revealed to all be the same length, which is meta for the story as a whole. Aziraphale starts playing with the interconnected rings, flirting with Crowley with some "gift for prop" innuendo, and then sends one of them frisbeeing across the room... like he'll do more intentionally with his halo by the end of S2. The rings/parallel halo cut down a house of cards on the table from the bottom, likely foreshadowing Aziraphale's fall being what can bring down all of Heaven and Hell.

I think that Aziraphale was originally thinking about Excalibur/the swords-in-the-box for that night in 1941 but the fact that it's not ultimately this one that he picks in S2 amuses me. Aziraphale was drawn to it for the same reasons he was drawn to The Bullet Catch-- for the innuendo of the sexual metaphor. On our level of going to the writer's bag of tricks here, the gun is, next to the sword, the most overt sexual metaphor there is and The Bullet Catch is what is selected to make it abundantly clear to the audience what the story is saying about Crowley and Aziraphale. Within the story itself, Aziraphale is going for the gun for the same reasons-- as a means by which to flirt with Crowley by making it a metaphor for their past.

In terms of parallels between the plots and the magic tricks in the shop, the swords-in-the-box is actually more S1. By the end of the swords of the box trick, the assistant and the magician have seemed to have swapped places in the box to elude death. Metaphorically, it's more in line with the body swap of S1. It doesn't go along with the death that is looming at the end of S2 and that won't be avoided, unlike at the end of S1. It's every bit as sexually euphemistic as The Bullet Catch but maybe slightly too subtle for the big, dramatic part of the story that we're in by 1941, Part 2 here.

After all, we're looking for something with scale, something climatic! 😉 😂 Something dramatic as all fuck to end up going well in 1941 to reverse-parallel the doom of everything going wrong in The Final 15.

We need something that shows them overcoming the miracles not working that day with success that will contrast with it all going wrong in the present. Something that is also a big, highlighted-in-neon, could-not-be-any-more-obvious sexual metaphor and when Aziraphale starts gasping over a gun? When his eyes land on the feast of sex-and-death that is The Bullet Catch? Ah, there we go... 😂

Welcome to the Magic Shop

Or why Will Goldstone’s Magic Shop might be more important than it seems to be and why the Bullet Catch isn’t the only trick in its stock that should interest us in the context of the Good Omens plot.

Let’s start with very first thing Aziraphale saw and literally ran towards after crossing the shop’s threshold. It’s nothing else but the legendary sword Excalibur (foretelling the divinely appointed ruler) and a prop for a spectacular illusion called the Excalibur chest.

But wait, there’s more to it! During the handshake besides the Excalibur itself, placed right between Crowley and Aziraphale, there are three more swords struck into the angel’s back. It’s Tarot symbolism: reversed Ace of Swords (miscommunication, clouded judgement) and reversed Three of Swords (recovery from a difficult patch in a relationship or heartbreak). I’d say it checks out for the angel in this minisode! Reversed because they suddenly switched sides for this particular scene.

Insane how the Good Omens crew found a cobra from the snake-charming act and put it on the counter in front of Aziraphale — as if it wasn’t clear enough that this angel is a professional snake charmer, right?

I wanted to make a joke about Aziraphale buying the cobra afterwards, just like Crowley bought the eagle lectern as a souvenir of that night, but then I remembered… this stupid, sentimental snake HAD IT IN HIS BEDROOM IN S1.

Just imagine how many Aziraphale-related memorabilia he had accumulated over those six thousands years, when only one night out with the angel led to two new items in his collection.

The only way for Crowley to be more obvious would be covering the walls of his apartment with Aziraphale’s pictures like in a classic Stalker Shrine trope.

And since our thoughts are already in the present, there’s also something super interesting in the background between Crowley and Aziraphale during their visit in the shop in S2. Look to the right!

As you can probably suspect at this point, nothing in this shop is what it seems to be. This isn’t just any piece of rope, but a prop for the Indian rope trick, sometimes described as the world’s greatest illusion.

The story behind it revolves around someone going to Heaven and the magician bringing them back in the most spectacular fashion! And one of the Good Omens producers, Catriona McKenzie, shared this BTS photo with it some time ago.

The classic trick looks like this: the magician’s assistant climbs the rope until he’s lost to view, as if ascending to Heaven. The magician calls him and feigns anger upon receiving no response. He arms himself with a knife or sword, climbs the rope, and vanishes as well. An argument is heard and then human limbs fall, as if cut from the assistant’s body by the magician. When all the parts of his body land on the ground, the magician climbs down the rope, collects the severed limbs, and puts them all in a big basket. The assistant resurrects/reappears from it uninjured.

Not that it means something in particular, but this scenario would be extremely fun to play in the context of getting the Supreme Archangel Aziraphale back to Earth.

Tik Tok Accounts stealing Content from Tumblr Astro Bloggers

So, early this morning, I was just randomly scrolling on TikTok and saw an astrology post. At first, I found it really interesting because it stated something I wrote in my own "Random Astro Observations" post from two years ago. But as I kept reading, I started noticing that the rest of the sentences also sounded way too similar to mine.

And then… BOOM. It hit me. Some random dumbass had the audacity to straight-up steal my content from Tumblr without ever asking for permission or giving credit. And no, this wasn’t one of those typical screenshot posts, it was a self-written post, formatted in a way that made it look like it was their original work. TikTok users would probably assume that this account was the real creator, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. IT’S FUCKING NOT.

These people don’t just steal and screenshot your work without giving credit, they go as far as rewriting it, editing small parts, slapping their own name on it, and then answering comments as if they actually have the same knowledge and insight as the original creator.

I was shocked. Because before realizing this, I actually thought that the TikTok account was creating their own observations. But no it’s fake. They just copy, paste, and claim it as theirs.

Like, I know you mediocre, good-for-nothing people don’t actually understand the astrology content you post. You just like the attention, the likes, and the views. Meanwhile, people like me have actually studied astrology for YEARS. I mean that I've spent over 5+ years studying astrological placements, reading charts, and truly understanding the deeper meanings. I didn’t just skim through random posts and use them as "resources" to build my own platform. I actually sat my ass down and studied for HOOOOUUURRSSS every single day because I genuinely wanted to understand myself and the people around me. Astrology has always been a passion for me.

I love learning new information, analyzing people’s placements, reading synastry and composite charts (which, let’s be real, these people probably don’t even know what those are). At this point, I could read someone’s birth chart and tell them things they aren’t even fully aware of themselves. BUTTTT the fact that some random Susanne or Tom really thinks they can just steal my content, build their own fan base off of my work, and assume I won’t find out? That’s actually diabolical.

Let’s be honest you guys don’t know shit about astrology like that. The only reason you even have information to post on TikTok is because of original creators who actually have talent, knowledge, and a passion for sharing it.

It’s okay to start as a beginner and learn at your own pace. I mean bitch there is CHatGPT now like I don't understand. But doing it in a dishonest and disrespectful way? That’s just wrong, and you know it. You just don’t care.

for this post i'm superrr excited to share a guide on taking notes that make you want to study ✧˖° trust me, i know how overwhelming it can get when it feels like you're stuck in the middle of endless textbooks and dry lecture slides (honestly, we all have those days). so, let's transform your note taking into something delightful, empowering, and totally reflective of your unique self.

✧ finding your vibe first things first, bestie: the key here is to make your notes feel personal and inspiring. rather than sticking to a rigid system, i suggest mixing a little structure with a whole lot of creativity. here are some steps to help you set up your perfect note taking vibe:

choose your medium: even if it’s a cute pastel notebook, sticky notes, or a digital app with fun themes, pick something that sparks joy and invites you to open it up. i personally love notion + remnote + coda

establish sections: break your notes into clear sections. introduction, main points, and summary. this not only boosts organization but also gives you a gratifying sense of progress every time you finish a page.

add your signature touch: doodles, small illustrations, or even a decorative border can make a note feel less like a chore and more like a mini art project. i love using aesthetic symbols for my digital notes <3

✧ creating a study ritual i believe that great notes come from a relaxed and focused mind. try integrating these rituals into your study sessions to set a positive tone, this is really important if you want to make note-taking fun:

Hi Yudi, thanks for dropping by!

General note: One thing I’ve learned about trying to go for a more manga-esque style is that there’s really no particular way to do it, and EVERY artist does it differently. Everything I do here is a blend of my own style and things from JP artists I admire! However, the most important thing is that panels aren’t meant to be masterpieces but to convey information and get the dialogue going.

This process will be CSP oriented. I’ve made a mini screen tone tutorial (and how to turn on Layer Property) but I did not talk about my own settings ^^ You’re free to do any resolution you want, though I stick to drawing on a B4 template for fun (and imagine that one day my stuff can get published /j). I hope this helps, as I’m still trying to figure my own style and set limits on the details too.

[Process]

Script + Thumbnail

I used to wing stuff for one-pagers, but now I’ve found that scripting and thumbnailing has made my process so much faster. (Omg it’s almost like people make drafts for a reason- @ me cause I hate planning)

There’s no standards of a comic script, and each publisher has their own format. My usual scripts don’t separate pages, since I leave that to the thumbnailing once I do dialogue placement. If trying to imagine panels without seeing them overwhelming, at least get the dialogue down.

The B4 thumbnail template I use is pretty darn big, so it also doubles as the sketching stage. Once the thumbnails are done, I transfer them (screenshot) to a comic file on CSP. Once the set up is done, I do speech bubbles + dialogue first, insert the frames, then get to the line art. Since I don’t think anyone is actually gonna print their works, you’re free to trim your canvas however you want to post online 🫡

Speech Bubbles

Any speech bubble can work and will eventually blend in as the viewer is reading, but I have a vendetta against super flat/digital-looking ones. I made a custom brush for a textured speech bubble pen with line width by adjusting its taper and changing the brush shape. Published manga are a different story, but I like the more organic polygonal bubble shapes from indie artists-

For different shapes and situation… Squares - Narration, Flash/Urchin - Character thoughts/internal monologue, Hexagon - Phone call/text (not a concrete rule but a common pattern)

You can also add emanata (sparkles/symbols) on the bubbles for flairs as you see fit.

Screen tone (Please read the linked mini-tutorial above)

I split my tones into two folders. One specifically for black, and greys.

I first fill in all black areas, the duplicate them. The top layer will be the shadows (remains pure black), and the bottom layer is set to [Opacity 75%] and turned into a screen tone layer with a [frequency of 45-50] (It must always be at a lower frequency than the greys). To add texture, I use a grainy brush to erase bits of pure black on a mask. To show light on the screen tone layer, I use gradient erase on a mask.

For the greys, I split them into three tones (dark grey, medium grey, light grey) all in the same folder so they don’t overlap and it’s easier to fix. I use a [frequency of 75] or any number higher than the screen tone in the black layer. Overall, tones can be as simple and complex as you want, but it’s best to save more detailed tones for important panels. (Planning to change this as I’ve realized how big the B4 canvas actually is, and the frequency doesn’t need to be so high- The size of screen tone is a preference. This example was done on a smaller canvas, so higher frequencies still look less pixelated/small.)

Emanata/SFX

Special effects is whatever the situation calls for! It can to make a blank canvas feel more dynamic, to evoke certain emotions, hint/foreshadow. It’s best used sparingly on important panels you think would be the most important… but how do you get those effects?

THE CLIP STUDIO ASSETS STORE- Or draw/download your own depending on the program (You have no idea- ever since I downloaded too, I can’t unsee them in other works of artists I like 😭) Not used in the example but these are my essentials- You can also find a lot of gems if you straight up search ��manga” and see the most popular assets.

Another good place to find comic fonts in general is blambot.com (?). They have quite a bit of free, personal use fonts if you ever need flavour text when italics or bold isn’t enough. (Current font used is Anime Ace 3 Regular BB).

After several comments on my recent protest posts expressing a desire to join the fray, but lacking information on where to start, I decided to take a Julius Caesar stab at this primer:

PROTESTING FOR DUMMIES: A Primer for the First-Time Protester

HOW ARE Y’ALL FINDING OUT ABOUT THESE PROTESTS???

On TikTok, they have been using code words to circumvent algorithmic suppression of certain search terms. PER THE FIRST RULE OF FIGHT CLUB…. 

On reddit, the recent nationwide State Capitol protests were coordinated via the r/50501 community. For those who were wary of the group’s bona fides, they have since partnered with r/Political_Revolution et al. to help them with organizational efforts going forward. 

Plus, there are tried and true grassroots organizations like Indivisible (the group responsible for saving Obamacare). I personally recommend visiting Indivisible’s mobilize page for help finding events, both in-person and virtual. And join their Stop the Coup mailing list to keep up with ways to take action wherever you live.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO A PROTEST? A catchy sign. Keep the message simple and use thick, large lettering for the best impact. Also, don’t forget to make your sign double-sided as half of the protesters are likely behind you.

A friend or two. Safety in numbers is a cliché for a reason. If you must go alone, make friends with any protesters nearby.

A soft-sided water bottle. Stay hydrated, but don’t let that 40oz Stanley mug turn into a potential weapon.

Some snacks. High-nutrient snack foods like energy bars or trail mix work best. Also don’t forget to clean up after yourself. 

A backpack or crossbody bag. To carry all your stuff and keep your hands free.

A face mask. Covid, flu, and RSV infections are spiking across the country. Even Tuberculosis is making a comeback, so keep yourself healthy. And just in case shit goes down, IT WILL BE THAT MUCH HARDER TO IDENTIFY YOU IN THE FOOTAGE. And on that note…

Avoid wearing anything personally identifying. Stick to nondescript muted colors, avoiding large logos/emblems, and cover up any tattoos. 

Consider leaving your phone at home or adjusting your phone settings for added protection against surveillance. Write down emergency phone contacts on a small notecard, or better yet, on your arm with a Sharpie. And always notify people ahead of time whenever you will be attending a protest, so they can make sure you return safely and without incident. 

YOU SOUND LIKE A PARANOID, PREPPER. WHY I GOTTA DO ALL THAT? It’s for your own safety and protection. Protests have been largely peaceful thus far, but don’t give Trump any excuse to call in the Feds or use the National Guard against protesters AGAIN.

And the larger the protest, the more likely it will attract bad actors. It just takes one person to try to incite violence in a peaceful protest. If you’re able, always attempt to de-escalate or call out someone trying to start shit. If you’re not in a position to intervene, once you see the tide turning, slowly move away from the area without drawing attention to yourself.

Also, avoid protesting at night. Peaceful daytime protests can quickly turn violent under the cover of darkness. And without fail, the police will use the first hint of violence as an excuse to declare an “unlawful assembly”, giving them grounds to arrest you if you do not disperse.

Finally, always be aware of your surroundings. YEAH, THAT SUS DUDE IN STEEL-TOED BOOTS WHO DIDN’T EVEN BRING A SIGN IS TOTES A COP.

WHAT IF I GET HURT? To be frank, if you are attending a protest where the majority of participants are NOT white, the use of crowd control weaponry (i.e. tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, or sound cannons) goes up exponentially. If you are attending under such circumstances, consider packing a first-aid kit, extra water (to flush your eyes), and ear plugs (for sonic weapons). Larger, permitted protests will typically have a medic on hand as well.

WHAT IF I AM STOPPED BY THE POLICE? See the ACLU’s page for more detail, but in short, ask if you are free to leave. If you are NOT being arrested, you have the right to walk away calmly. If you ARE being arrested, STFU. No seriously, STFU. Refuse to answer any questions and ask for a lawyer. And under NO circumstances, should you sign ANYTHING without an attorney present.

WHY SO SRS??? YOU’RE MAKING ME RETHINK THIS WHOLE PROTEST THING.

This is the reality of protesting under a fascist-leaning government. We still have rights, but they are on life support every second that Trump and the Muskrat continue their reign of destruction. All the more reason to screw your courage to the sticking place AND MAKE YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!

OK, BUT WHAT IF I’M NOT QUITE READY TO GO FULL ANTIFA. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? Do not give in to hopeless despair. Not everyone is equipped to be on the frontlines, but you can still support in other ways. You could host a sign-making event for other protesters. You could boycott companies that have rolled back their DEI policies. You could protest in smaller numbers at the local office of your US Senator. You could flood the ICE tip lines with fake reports. Hell, you could even lawfully obstruct an ICE arrest. If there’s one thing we tumblr folks know how to do, it’s be CHAOS AGENTS. Get creative and tell the enemy to GARGLE YOUR BALLS!

WHAT IF I AM A TEENY BLUE SPECK ADRIFT IN A RED SEA? Can’t find an event near you? Visit one of the local offices of your US Senator in your home state. Constituents may email or call, but actually showing up in-person is next level PISSED. Right now, GOP Senators are the only ones with the power to oppose Trump’s cabinet. Make them fight for you and pushback against Trump’s nominees. Democrats can only slow down and obstruct, but without GOP help, they simply don’t have the numbers to stop Trump from installing a baby killer and Russian asset to his regime.

ANYTHING ELSE??? Call your Congresspeople daily. Use 5calls.org to find the numbers for your US Rep and US Senators. The site also provides handy scripts and talking points for all the horrible things going on in Washington, so you can call back multiple times (and to each local office) to ensure you raise hell over EACH AND EVERY MOTHERFUCKIN’ THING. 

ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Nobody voted for the Nazi Muskrat. And Trump failed to even secure a majority of the popular vote, falling short at 49.7%. Plus, if you combine all the non-voters with Kamala’s total, THOSE WHO DID NOT VOTE FOR TRUMP OUTNUMBER MAGA 2-1. 

AND REMEMBER KIDS, TO FOLLOW THE TWO ROGERS RULE:

So What’s the Truth?

Some of you out there may be asking yourselves a few questions:

“Is there any romance between Chell and GLaDOS?”

“What proof would we have for this outside of the game?”

“What do the game devs have to say?”

Well, my friends, good ol’ mod Blue here has rounded up a few quotes to answer your questions. The following quotes are all from The Final Hours of Portal 2, which is available to purchase on iOS and on Steam.

Here you go:

“And the dysfunctional romance that builds between the player’s game avatar and GLaDOS…” - chapter 3, page 10 (regarding the first game)

It’s made pretty clear that there’s a romantic relationship between the two, at the very least on GLaDOS’s part. Whether or not people should ship the characters is beside the point. I’m just showing that there is canon proof from the game devs of the romance.

That's going to be a pretty apt summary of this post.

I never said that we shouldn't do justice to all people. I never have said that, ever. I said in the post "Are they a human being? Are they an image of God?? Are they a living sacrament??? Do they have breath and blood and life????" I have spoken numerous times about the complete and total abolition of the use of death as a weapon.

The book of Exodus says not to be partial towards either the poor or the rich. As such, Exodus is also clearly not playing "that game".

Brian Thompson is a tragedy. Objectively. First and foremost, the loss of any life is always something to mourn, innocent or guilty. And then beyond that, the death of any one who is unsaved is even moreso.

All violence is a tragedy and violence only begets more violence.

However, and if @lastoneout doesn't mind I'm just going to quote their post on this subject,

The thing is tho, a lot of people in power seem to think the start of the violence was the CEO getting shot, but they're wrong. The start of the violence was that very CEO running a company that turns immense, endless human suffering into money. The total abolition of the use of death as a weapon means the abolishing of capitalism, prison slavery, police brutality, murderous healthcare systems. It means that we must deny, defend, and depose. Yes, I mourn the death of a life. But I also hold them responsible for the blood on their hands.

Meanwhile, there is no justice being done because an innocent man - Luigi Mangione - has been falsely accused, arrested for it, and could possibly be executed. And not only is he innocent in the "innocent until proven guilty" way (which is very important) but he is freaking innocent in every way. Luigi has two very clear physical indicators - unibrow and stubble on his fce - that the suspect (who they believe was at Starbucks earlier that day) did not have.

And knowing this STILL arrested him.

And then tried to make him look like the suspect! And I mean, already I'm not fully convinced that Starbucks Guy and The Shooter are the same person anyway, so quite possibly we are dealing with 3 completely separate people but I digress.

Luigi said evidence was planted on him like the gun and the manifesto. I believe this because the manifesto praises the efforts of the policemen on like page one. Like. Siriusly?

Continuing: We have police documents confirming he was not DNA tested or fingerprinted, and confirmation no usable DNA or fingerprints were recovered at the crime scene due to incomplete prints and immense DNA contamination of New Yorks streets. No evidence has linked him to the crime. No facial recognition has even remotely come close to identifying the cctv suspects face as that of Luigi. His own family and friends do not see a resemblance. Most people agree the features in the cctv do not match the very well documented features of Luigi Mangione. Luigi Mangione has no history of violence nor with firearms. He is a vegan pacifist with no history of mental illness and an aversion to killing even bugs (which, absolute same loll). He is still only a SUSPECT and all involvement in any crimes are merely ALLEGED at this time. Alleged by the most corrupt police force in the entire nation; the NYPD who do more organized crime than they've ever stopped. Luigi Mangione's attorneys confirmed they have been shown absolutely nothing that even places Luigi at the scene of the crime. People have repeatedly tried to recreate the entire timeline of events and found it is not physically possible to do what was alleged in the time frame police gave. Especially dubious for Luigi Mangione to have done given his recent, crippling back injury. Luigi Mangione in his own words has said police planted evidence on him and are not being honest about his arrest or what he had on him at the time.

And what has he suffered for these *heinous* deeds?

Stripped of his hat, jacket and shoes and forced to walk in the cold in December wearing wet socks.

Forced to urinate on himself where police then took and published humiliation photos of him.

He was then stripped of his shirt pants and socks and put in a blue psychiatric gown and strapped to a chair inmates called "the torture chair" and left for prolonged periods of time. To the point the entire inmate population at the prison protested in anger.

He was slammed unto a brick wall, choked, and shoved by various police officers for no reason.

Was marched through nyc at gunpoint by officers with military firearms, forced to wear chains

Was called a murderer by the mayor of NYC on national television.

Was then placed in solitary confinement for weeks. Something extremely damaging psychologically to be exposed to for even just a few days. Something usually reserved for cannibals.

He is now being forced to sleep on the floor despite again, a crippling back injury.

Again, he has not even had trial yet. He is an innocent man by the very definition of the law. He has nothing tying him to any crime. And even the crime itself was a nobody being shot in a city where nobodies are shot everyday, seven days a week. And those shooters don't get this treatment. Cannibals don't get this treatment. Serial killers don't get this treatment. Why are they doing this? Because we entered an oligarchy and they want people who are rich to matter more than people who are not. Not yours. Never yours. You're poor. They'll torture you without a trial too. Your life means nothing to them. Your children dying in school shootings means nothing to them. Pinning a crime on an innocent man they can beat to scare the public out of class consciousness is the only thing that matters to them now.

But the thing is, I'm not scared. I am not scared by the death of a innocent man. Do they not know what happens when you kill someone who's perceived as a hero? You create a martyr. People are already talking about him like he's Robin Hood; our government (may their bones be ground to dust) should be careful what they do next.

The use of the vulnerable quartet as a way of limiting who you should do justice to is insanity. "Are you a widow or an orphan" are they a human being? Are they an image of God?? Are they a living sacrament??? Do they have breath and blood and life???? Do justice to all women to all the oppressed to all children and to all foreigners. Do not try to appeal to the social justice ethical law of scripture to deny people justice!
