Other things that the first result and Wikipedia article (in fact in many of those cases the first result is the Wikipedia article) are uncomfortably often about:

some random band (and/or solo artist) I've never heard of before

some random song from a band I've never heard of before

a movie (also usually one I've never heard of before) that has the word in its name

a video game (usually a recent-ish one) that has the word in its name

a baseball or American "football" player (other US sports also come up sometimes)

a random village somewhere (especially frequent if I'm searching for a different town with a similar name)

a more common but otherwise unrelated word with a vaguely similar spelling

But a lot of the time they're tech startups, yes.

It is also common to have the first few results be about some random minor cryptocurrency (IIRC sometimes not even all the same one!), but those at least don't tend to have a Wikipedia article about them.

(...Though, weirdly enough, for "bowl", specifically, Wikipedia is apparently the 3rd search result for me and the first two are dictionaries.)

EDIT: almost forgot another related annoyance - even when (at least) the spelling matches, it's also unexpectedly hard to get from the wrong Wikipedia article to the correct one!

I mean, you'd expect an article for [e.g.] "Wug (analytics company)" or "Wug (2019 video game)" or "Wug (Canadian drummer)" or "Wug, Lenkolody County" to have a note at the top linking to "Wug (disambiguation)" or even to "Wug" directly! But apparently they almost never do.

(Sometimes they have a "not to be confused with" note linking to something like "Wug (2011 video game)" or "Wug (Estonian drummer)" or "Wug, Kilkenedy County" but that other article doesn't have a link to the full disambiguation page either.)

If you search bowl on google, the dictionary is the 26th search result, and wikipedia is the 39th. Sad!

NEW YEAR, NEW ME

If you want to reinvent and rebrand yourself, or just continue to make positive improvements in 2024, the first thing is to evaluate your current year. 

EVALUATION

Reflect on how things went for you. Was there continuous growth? Were there many difficult times? Did you discover anything major about yourself and so on. Try to summarise your year in (a) paragraph(s) at least. 

Oversee your goals. Which ones you didn’t, did achieve, difficult ones, easy ones and the impacts it had on your life. 

Compare your dream girl then and now. Is your visualisation of your life currently different to the one you have now and why? 

List any major losses or successes you’ve had in your life, and how they have helped you or why it matters to you. 

This evaluation can be as detailed or simple as you like, but as long as you have a decent outline of your year. 

PREPARING & PLANNING

To prepare for 2024, you want to know what you want life to be like in 2024. Something realistic to a point, but still is a growth journey. 

Think of something that you can associate with 2024. This can be a word, a symbol, art, a song, a book, a movie, a place, or even just all of these things. When you think about your goals and your journey, this is your theme. This is something that should relate to your goals or your dream girl somehow. 

For me, I chose a word and a song. My word is growth because, for me, 2023 was a year for just being able to shed my old self which I did achieve however I just felt there wasn’t much growth as an actual person and not just in my environment. 

For my song, it is Mayflowers by Proleters and Taskrok. This song is the epitome of what I would imagine, is the most polished mindset. I would say perfect, but having a perfect mindset is near impossible. I want to have a mindset glow up because I’ve just been hard on myself lately which has caused my confidence to plummet. 

Before we get into the fun part of the preparation stage, we have to do some organisation in our life. I want you to take a look at your daily lifestyle and your habits, and be completely unashamed about this. 

Then categorise these habits into two sections; Leave and Leap. Leave habits are habits that you are leaving behind in 2023, leap habits are habits that are leaping into 2024 with you. 

Any habits that are self-destructive, addictive or generally harmful are leave habits. Beneficial habits and self-building are leaping with you into the new year.

I want you to do the same for people in your life, all environments (school, work, online etc) and anything else you believe needs to be sorted out. 

This works better if you can reason with yourself why it is a leaping or leaving habit, but don’t try to convince yourself a bad habit is good or vice versa. 

Now, I want you to document an honest paragraph about who you are right now. List your bad and good habits, your strengths and weaknesses and your behaviours. This one requires a bit more detail. 

Then, write a paragraph about who you will be in 2024, your dream girl. List her habits, lifestyle, behaviours, mindset, strengths and anything else extra. I’ll explain later but do not include materialistic desires in this your dream girl. Once again, this one also requires details. 

Stemming from those paragraphs, I want you to create specific and achievable goals. SMART goals are best, but I want to introduce you to how I set goals. 

I divide my year into quarters. For each 3 months, I have 3-5 goals for those months. Usually, it’s one from each area of my life. Then, I break down these goals. 

Questions and How They Help 

Why do I want to do this goal - For motivation and commitment. 

How it’ll benefit me - For the sake of improvement. 

How can I involve myself in this goal - To achieve your goal.  

I prefer this method because it is a lot simpler for me, as I am just a young girl and my bigger goals are more in the future in which I’ll utilise SMART goals. 

To create good goals; Make sure they align with your current values and life principles first. Try to avoid creating goals that you have just taken from the internet. Those goals just aren’t it and you most likely won’t follow through with it. 

Be specific. Don’t say you want to eat more healthily, instead say you want to include (a certain group of veggies/fruits) in your diet and reduce the intake of ( food/drink). 

E.g using eating healthy example

I want to eat healthy -> I want to start including foods that boost my immunity system and support my skin while reducing those that have the opposite effect. 

Then break down those quarterly goals into monthly, weekly and daily goals. Make these habits that you can establish in your lifestyle and have a way in which you can refer back to your progress. 

EXAMPLE GOAL BREAKDOWN

Quarterly Goal - Read 6 books.  

Monthly Goal - Finish 2 books.

Weekly Goal - Be or near half way of one book.

Daily Goal - 20 minutes of reading per day. 

AREAS TO SET GOALS IN YOUR LIFE

Academics

Spiritual

Fitness/sport

Health and wellbeing

Mental health

Personal life

Relationships

Hobbies and recreation

Now for the best part- vision boards! Collect all of your favourite images that embody your quarters or the whole year, then put them in one place where you can see them regularly!

Some ideas are a scrapbook, Pinterest boards, mood boards, playlists etc. 

Choose your theme; It can be your healthy girl era, your academic come back or whatever you want. You can have more than two btw.

Use quotes! Then actually say them in your daily life as a way to shift your mindset to reflect said quote.

Include inspirational people. It doesn't even have to be a millionaire or a very well established person, it could be your friends or someone on the internet.

Be imaginative. Your vision board doesn't have to realistic in my opinion, as the whole point of it to me is that viewing it daily and considering it to be part of your life one day allows for you to open up to those opportunities.

Materialistic Wants

I feel obligated to make this a separate section. This section is practically tangible objects that you want.

However, when choosing this said object that you want, mindfully think about why you want that thing specifically.

It doesn’t have to be meaningful, but as long as each thing on that list has got a purpose to you, and will serve you, I think it’s all good!

Conclusion

If you want, you can definitely start implementing habits before January. However, I believe that as long as you go into 2024 at least knowing who you want to be and shedding away any limiting beliefs, you’ll be fine.

Make sure to incorporate some self care rituals into your daily life as well✨

The Music of Arcane: Vi’s Motif

This one took some legwork! So strap in, strap on, and enjoy the fruits of my labour: a deep-dive into the musical score of Arcane.

Recently, I posted a link to a list someone made of leitmotifs (musical motifs that represent a character, place, or concept) in Arcane. To my surprise, Vi wasn’t listed - and in the comments, people including OP were speculating that it’s strange she doesn’t have one. But I’ve done some sleuthing.

And she does!

At least, I think she does. Bear with me, here.

"VI'S" MOTIF?

Quick reference: The leitmotif in question

So here’s the thing: I’m not sure that this leitmotif actually represents Vi herself. To me, that appears to be the closest match - but there are some instances where it doesn’t quite seem to fit. 

The motif is derived from the chord progression of Goodbye, as I'll explain shortly, so perhaps it represents saying goodbye: loss/death/change/having to say farewell in general? 

I’ve outlined what I’ve found below - I encourage you to have a look through and, if you draw your own conclusions, let me know what you think! I don't have much in terms of music theory and music analysis background, so I’m sure there’s much more to unpack here that I haven't even begun to touch on.

THE LEITMOTIF ITSELF

This is the chord progression from Goodbye that becomes the foundation of Vi's leitmotif:

Specifically, the top two notes of the first two chords: a minor third (Gb,Eb) to major second (F,Eb). The top notes are the vocal line of “It’s time to say goodbye(Gb), goodbye(Gb) goodbye(F).” This progression, and the disonnance between the Gb and F, make up the Goodbye/Vi leitmotif (for the sake of clarity, I’ll just be calling it Vi’s motif) that I’ve been trying to pin down.

Goodbye makes sense as the foundation of Vi’s motif, because, if you look at the lyrics, this is Vi's song. As @bwat5-blog said in an earlier post examining the lyrics of a couple different Arcane tracks, this song represents “Vi's perspective as her world is completely falling apart around her.” And when we hear the motif in the soundtrack, it often seems to be referencing Vi’s trauma, or her losses (in fact, in my notes, I was calling this the “Vi-has-a-bad-time motif” lmao).

Below are all the instances of Vi’s motif that I caught. For your convenience, I have compiled a list of timestamped youtube links, along with short descriptions of what’s going on in the show each time the motif appears.

Season 1

The first time we hear that dissonance is in Episode 3, The Base Violence Necessary for Change (the one with Goodbye):

Deal’s Changed 0:39 After Benzo and Grayson are killed, Vi watches helplessly from the basement as Vander is knocked out and taken by Silco A Short Reunion 0:07 Vi leads the team on the Vander rescue mission A Short Reunion 1:44 Vi faces down the first of Silco’s goons; Powder sees and gasps; Vander also sees and gasps. Silco gives his dude the go-ahead to attack. Explosion 0:27 Everyone is reacting in slow-mo to Powder’s monkey-bomb hextech explosion (note that the dissonance plays as it pans across Vi and Vander specifically - ALSO, note that it’s intermingled with Jinx/Powder’s leitmotif here)

Revenge 2:25 Silco stabs Vander and drops him off the catwalk while Vi watches (the whole sequence has the leitmotif several times) You’re a Jinx 1:42 and onwards. This song is the lead-up into Goodbye, so it has a lot of this same chord progression. The timestamp is where Vi looks down at her hand in horror after hitting Powder. Goodbye - basically the whole song. It plays at the very end of S1E3 as we’re left reeling over Vander’s death and Vi’s abduction by Marcus, and Powder’s left sobbing in Silco’s arms. Slow zoom out, roll credits, this song plays. Chills.

Episode 4, Happy Progress Day!: 

None - also no Vi, she only appears at the very end when Caitlyn goes to Stillwater.

Then in Episode 5, Everybody Wants to Be My Enemy:

Order for Release 2:28 Vi cautiously watches Caitlyn after Caitlyn has her cell door opened in Stillwater.

Episode 6, When These Walls Come Tumbling Down:

How Could I Forget? 0:46 Caitlyn examines Vi and Powder’s growth chart and childhood wall art, just after giving Vi the Shimmer potion.  Showdown 3:10 Ekko stops a Firelight from spearing an unconscious Vi after Jinx and Vi get jumped during their reunion - and there’s a second instance a few seconds later, on a shot of Vi being carried by the Firelight

Episode 7, The Boy Savior: 

No instances of the motif that I noticed!

Episode 8, Oil and Water:

We Got a Deal, Pretty Boy? 0:39  This is right as Vi is talking about Stillwater with Jayce, asking, “You don’t bother to find out what it does to someone, being stuffed in a stone box for weeks, or months, or even years?”

And finally, Episode 9, What Could Have Been:

She Still Needs You 0:37 This is a slight variation of the motif, but it’s clear enough that I wanted to mention it. Happens right as she stands to face down Sevika once again, after hallucinating Vander encouraging her. (Actually, upon review, I think this instance is more just a part of Vander’s theme)

Season 2

Episode 1, Heavy is the Crown:

It’s Your Legacy Now 3:37 Our first appearance of Vi’s motif this season is as she storms away from Caitlyn after turning down her offer to join the enforcers (before she starts drinking with Loris for the first time). The Burden of Responsibility 0:38 After the memorial attack, while Cait and Vi talk about what’s next. (“Maybe you should change that.” “I don’t know how, okay?”) Another neat thing about this one: that cool driving percussion line in the background is one of Caitlyn’s leitmotifs (and it’s one of the coolest, imo) The Burden of Responsibility 1:14 Same song, same conversation. “Every way I slice it, if I go after your sister alone, one of us comes back in a box. It’s all coming apart.”

Episode 2, Watch It All Burn:

Awakening 3:05 Interestingly, this is the one of the few examples I found that doesn’t directly involve Vi - although it is still a “goodbye,” as Viktor leaves Jayce after being revived with the hexcore.

Episode 3, Finally Got the Name Right:

Surprisingly for an episode with so much Vi, I didn’t catch the leitmotif at all here

Episode 4, Paint the Town Blue:

Sevika’s Speech 0:43 This one is during Sevika’s speech to the Jinxers, as the crowd clamors to see Jinx herself. Another instance of the motif where it doesn’t involve Vi. Interesting that we heard it a lot in episode 1, but haven’t heard it for Vi a single time since she joined the enforcers. Losing herself? Is that a stretch?

Episode 5, Blisters and Bedrock:

Blisters and Bedrock 0:34 IT'S BACK. It sounds right as Vi touches the Silco-Vander letter. Also at 1:02 while we hear Vander read “When [Felicia] died, I lost my head.” And at 1:50 while we see Vander’s seeing-red pov chasing down Isha, Jinx, and Vi, and Vi looking nervously down the tunnel. That’s Not Vander - various. It’s not as obvious as in other songs, but the leitmotif is woven into the Vi vs. Warwick song several times.

Episode 6, The Message Hidden Within the Pattern:

Don’t Sugarcoat it, Cupcake 1:06 Vi and Caitlyn talk about what Caitlyn’s doing in the commune - hunting down a murderous chem-beast.

Episode 7, Pretend Like It’s the First Time:

Predictably, none in this episode.

Episode 8, Killing Is a Cycle:

A Second Chance 0:39 This is right after Vi wakes up and talks with Caitlyn after the commune battle injury. “Who decides who gets a second chance?” The motif plays on the shot of Caitlyn looking conflicted/regretful as Vi storms away. A Storm is Coming 0:34 Jayce addresses the assembled governing parties of Piltover and Zaun, and says “we’ll need every hand we can get,” as the motif plays.

Episode 9, The Dirt Under Your Nails

The Bridge (Reprise) 0:49 Just one instance of the motif this episode, and it might be a stretch - it’s the last shot of the show, as Jinx (presumably) flies off in her balloon.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

So there we have it!

I probably missed all sorts of inversions and variations and things, so feel free to let me know if there are more, or if I made any errors.

Also interesting to note is that Vi's motif is similar to an element of Vander’s theme (in fact, it’s possible I accidentally added a couple of links that are actually Vander’s, or are a blend of Vi and Vander together)

I know this was a long read, but thanks for sticking with me, for those of you that did! I find this stuff endlessly fascinating, and I actually really enjoyed compiling this post. It was a fun little mystery to try to uncover (even though I still don’t think I’ve quite gotten to the bottom of it yet). And it was fun doing a truly complete listen-through of the Arcane soundtrack! (I’ll probably do it again, too… probably several times - send help lol)

Dan Povenmire stitched this chibi shorts episode as one SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR A "Specific subset of the Phineas and Ferb fandom" spoiler alert: apparently Perry's less upset about Heinz going around kissing people when it's Perry he's kissing.

this is not meant to be a fic, but i suppose you could read it as one? it's not written in a coherent story format though. this was just meant to be a lore explanation/infodump post. my autistic ass cannot write small to save my fucking life. so please don't expect something riveting with compelling dialogue if you choose to treat it like a fic. i'm putting it in the tag of my works though because i did not write 1.2k words for NOTHING

THINGS TO NOTE: this universe takes place entirely outside of what the actual sleep token lore has going on. however, i do take elements here and there and incorporate them in. i do not claim to be a sleep token lore expert, and a lot of what you may see also has to do with my own interpretation of the lore. THIS INCLUDES the songs. i am aware some of the songs have a specific meaning, and i am not in any way trying to erase it! please keep that in mind, as i may use the songs in different ways. as you have likely already seen with the fic listed above, this universe will include some difficult and heavy topics. this includes but is not limited to: suicide and self harm, abuse and manipulation, blood, and murder. there may also be some implied sexual themes. these warnings ALSO apply for the rest of this post. remember, no fanfiction is worth risking your mental health. and if any of these are triggering subjects, this may just not be for you and that's okay! i hope to see you around another one of my works!

amodian is a fantasy-based kingdom, population was mainly humans with a few mythical/magical/fantasy species peppered in. like elves, centaurs, things of that nature.

vessel... kind of lived there? more like he lived in a forest, which is called the "mystic forest". he would be seen here and there when he was young but he didn't have a home or parents within the kingdom itself. he was likely raised by the creatures of the woods, and grew into the role bestowed upon him; the nature guardian.

nature guardians aren't chosen, they're born to be one. he took on the role well, he was a great guardian! a staff was created out of wood by the tree spirits and wood elves, and it was charged with a great power that would help defend the forest from hunters, storms and disasters, anything that could possibly pose a threat.

but when you're going into adulthood, it gets kind of lonely. and that's exactly what sleep, a malevolent deity, used to his advantage. "you look lonely. i can fix that."

vessel didn't know what he was getting into, but he felt loved by sleep. vulnerable and unable to see the danger lurking around the corner, he fell in love with the deity. and then it was going DOWNHILL. sleep began to slowly withdraw the love he'd offered because he knew that vessel was reliant on it. which led eventually to vessel being desperate, unstable, and willing to do anything.

when vessel began to worship sleep properly, it was evident. dark and dangerous creatures began to reside in the woods, what once had been a sunny and ethereal area was now cloudy and shrouded in fog. vessel's physical appearance also changed; he went from two eyes to six, his skin faded into a dark grey, then came the claws, sharper canines.

by the time he realized this wasn't what he wanted, it was too late. the forest was shrouded in darkness and fog, and the people of amodian were forbidden from even going near it. all the while, sleep still had him on a leash and had begun a new type of control with vessel.

literally taking over his body. using it to cause more destruction, get more power, more authority. a small handful of people in amodian went missing, and when all the signs led to them having likely ventured into the forest, more people were going in there to search. and then they were going missing. and so on.

these people were either being killed and consumed by sleep, OR they were becoming worshippers as well. three of them ended up being vessel's anchor, his closest friends. ii, iii, and iv. the only three that sure, worshipped sleep, but did not follow the deity's every word. they just weren't convinced, especially not when his vessel looks so fucking miserable.

it's through them that vessel learns a few things. such as what a genuine connection is supposed to feel like, and the beginning stages of understanding who he is outside of sleep. vessel was still ensnared in the web and possibly growing addicted against his will to the dark power that sleep was giving him. but there was a new sense of wanting to find a way out that he hadn't considered before.

not to mention, there was this ONE THING... that iv had learned about in his studies. (he, ii, and iii all had their own lives and stories before the forest) and it was a thing called a soul bond.

the stories suggested that a magic holder was capable of having a bond with a non-magic holder that is so strong it could reverse a curse, break a spell, or maybe, just maybe... sever ties with a deity. but also, that every magic holder had something called a "soul call". it's different for everyone, and in vessel's case? it's song. like a siren's call.

not everyone would be able to follow it though. sure, maybe someone near the forest would hear it, but if they ventured in, eventually they just wouldn't be able to hear it anymore. then they're stuck in a foggy forest, unable to find their way back. the song would only be heard by vessel's soul bond, his soulmate. (basically, if it's not meant for you, you're not going to know/remember a single detail. must've been the wind!)

vessel can't picture a world without sleep, and he still gets defensive over sleep and the things he does, but he also wants out so badly. it's extremely push pull, and the longer it goes on the more vessel is willing to try anything. like attempting to drown in a lake, over. and over. and over. and over. (sleep won't let him die either. won't treat vessel with the same love that originally reeled him in, but won't set him free either.)

so every night, without fail, he sings the same song. (specifically, "take me back to eden", the first 3 minutes of the song. imagine being in a forest at night, and you just hear his voice, echoing unnaturally, guiding you through the fog.)

while it was believed to be someone from amodian that was his soul bond, "the incident" made the search nearly impossible. sleep knew about the soul bond. that was why one day, he guided vessel straight to the castle, bringing along a dangerous storm with him, the air crackling with dark magic. taking advantage of that power as well as vessel's nature magic capabilities that came with being a guardian, the kingdom was attacked. lives were lost, including that of the king of amodian.

amodian was ripped to pieces, and sleep basked in the glory of it, and in turn so did vessel. that is... if vessel even realized what was going on, given the state of his mind, the dark magic that his body is not supposed to be able to withstand, and of course, the manipulation and coercion that led him here.

sleep firmly believed that he had destroyed vessel's only chance of breaking free, assuming that one of the many killed had to have been his soul bond. but not everyone was killed, the queen actually survived. but with all the damage and casualties, there was no way to continue ruling. and one day, she seemingly vanished or perished, while the fallen kingdom remained. rubble, and a graveyard for so many innocents.

vessel doesn't give up, not even when amodian doesn't exist anymore. he's immortal to some extent, but that sure hasn't stopped him from trying to die over the years. yet STILL.

he waits, he's waited for at least a century or two now. he's still waiting. he'll wait for centuries to come, or at least until he loses his mind entirely, gives up hope, and/or possibly ascends to godhood of his own.

it's 2025. you've been looking for a new place to call your home for so long, and finally, you found it! it's a nice house, apparently the area used to be part of an abandoned kingdom or so the folktales said. the real estate agent kept talking about the stories during the entire tour, and was warning you about the woods just beyond your backyard.

but so what? it's nature, just because it looks a little spooky doesn't mean it's the end of the world. besides, you wanted to live away from the city, you wanted something more secluded. and now the place is all yours!

it's a little weird that you keep hearing a song coming from the forest every night, though. the real estate agent should've mentioned that... right?

I submitted a song from an indie game listing the author as the composer, but then I realised that's not exactly true, as all the music in the game is from a public free gallery. because of that, there's no official upload on youtube. would that still be ok? p.s. thank you for your work, I've come to really love this blog and i look forward to the new polls every day 💕

I'm going to say no, even though the song is in a video game it's not technically intended for the video game itself. I'm curious as to what game this is though.

Say a song that's made for a game and is in said game gets an official release of an alternative version that *isn't* in a game. (Ex: an extended version or a version with vocals) I assume that the in-game version of the song is acceptable, while an alternative version that isn't in any games are not. Asking because I've already submitted a couple in-game versions of songs that have official extended/vocal versions that aren't in-game.

Both are acceptable, for two reasons:

It's an official, original release/remix, presumably on an official album, for a video game, so it is technically a form of VGM even if it's not in the video game itself

I wouldn't be allowed to post the official NieR remix albums if I excluded these types of songs

If it's on an official album, I'm going to say yes. So no to the kirby concert -- but if the splatoon songs are on an album, they're allowed.

As of now, I'll only accept songs that were intentionally made to be included in the OST/album/music of a video game series -- so no preexisting non-VGM songs or anything like that.

I'll do my best, but these aren't always the easiest to find, and I try to use songs from official sources as much as possible to prevent the risk of the video getting copyright stricken off the playlist.

- easier is dead shin soukoku. "the only peace i have ever known is the peace i made with you / i won't move but i can't stay here so what the hell am i supposed to do." I know the song is about someone's partner leaving them BUT it could also I feel like be seen as one's thought process after the other's death?

- shallow river. for some reason. i dont know why but its just them. specifically each of their thoughts after the other dies? guilt over falling for each other? this one I don't have specific lyrics for you just need to trust me (OR LISTEN TO THE SONG)

- glacier house is Also very akutagawa. "you sought to hold yourself in, wait out the weather / close the door on love forever." the last line being "i am not one to live with regret" also calls to minds both "he wished to live life so intensely that he could die at any moment without regrets" (the life of a stupid man, akutagawa ryuunosuke), and "in days gone by I never repented of my acts. I was sorry always only for what I didn’t do" (light wind and dreams, nakajima atsushi) (the second quote also was included in bsd, translated as "I've never regretted anything I’ve done. I’ve only ever regretted the things that I didn’t do.") (i do in fact have all of those quotes memorized!) plus its a companion song to tongues and teeth

- tongues and teeth. it quite literally opens with "I've grown a mouth so sharp and cruel, it's all that I can give to you, my dear" and that mixed with "i know that you mean so well but i am not a vessel for your good intent" makes this The Akutagawa Song Ever. him seeing himself as a bad dangerous violent person, the heartless cur, unable to be rehabilitated or fixed, unable to love or care.

- back to the ground. feral noises. book imagery first of all, and second of all "little buds make their graves as the warmth inside us fades, but i still don't know shit about letting go" feels so. akutagawa being like i cant move forward until i kill atsushi but at the same time being so attatched to him. 55 minutes enjoyers how we feeling

- the entirety of how to rest. just look up the lyrics youll fucking seeeeee. "love's the only thing worth being alive for" THROWS MY PHONE OFF A CLIFF. ITS LIKE. THEIR SACRIFICES. THEY WOULD RATHER DIE THAN SEE THE OTHER DIE, THAN LIVE WITHOUT THE OTHER

- hard sell is so atsushi. "the world is hostile and i'm fragile and i need / someone to kiss the cuts and tell me to keep trying" plus how a lot of the lyrics are about unraveling yourself in pursuit of perfection. he doesnt value himself and thinks he is bad and terrible plus the self sacrificial nature

- can't go back is the epitome of sskk's hypocracy!! each telling the other that they're worth something while believing they themself are worth nothing. "all the self-loathing in the world won't change a thing". the line "'cause you can't go back, darling / the time has come for moving on / you can't be always trying to dig up what you've already buried" is also about the dredging up the past and the terrible way they were both treated, and how it affects them now even though they both have proof of their value as people.

- CURSES. are there any doomed gays that AREN'T curses coded??? just go read the lyrics. or listen to the song. can't point out specific lyrics for this one but the full song feels pretty representative of their partnership and how they've begun to rely on each other

- turn out the lights feels atsushi to me. its "hey maybe stop hating yourself" the song. specifically "a running list of all your doubts and your dead ends, and when you pull yourself out of bed you taste them on the tip of your tongue / and in the morning when you're standing in the shower, with the water pouring down, you dwell on all you ever done wrong" feels atsushi to us.

- know how, sort of? dont know how to explain it. it just feels sskk. atsushis sacrifice maybe? his thought process? this song is also probably about coming to terms with being queer so theres smth there when it comes to sskk and their feelings

- scars is so both of their backstories coded. just take out the part where the other person in the song gives a shit about them / their well-being. also its sort of. them to each other? "was i born with a hole in my heart? a fatal fault at the start?" its very 'my circumstances have made me unfit for love or for care or for relationships or for you' and well. that's just sskk

︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ✷ "better cr"?! ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎: i don't know what to call this reality ૮ ◞ ⸝⸝ ◟ ྀིა so it's titled "better cr" on my script, but that doesn't mean i dislike my "actual cr" or i'm unhappy here!! i just really don't know what to call it and i used a "better cr" script template for it when scripting ... anyways, this reality is a bit basic, but i think it's nice having another reality alongside this one that's simple and leaves the future up for the uncertainty. most people from my "better cr" that are in my life 24/7, are from tlou in my "actual cr". for example, jesse is my brother. dina & cat are my best friends (alongside my brother, since he's my best friend as well) and ellie is my love interest (childhood friends to eventual lovers). ellies sister is also sarah from tlou & their father is obviously joel. although, i do have a few other friends outside of the ones i listed.. those are my childhood friends i'm with 24/7!

i live in oregon with my older brother jesse as mentioned (older by one year), father, younger sister named hannah, dog named mari & cat named milo. my father also owns a farm that's not to far away from home, visited by us often though maintained by a family friend who lives on the property ( the friend in question is tommy... from tlou loool). on the farm — i have a goat named clover and a horse named lyra. i'm a theatre kid in this dr, and so are most of my friends! especially dina. i currently attend highschool and i am apart of a lot of school plays, including a hamilton one that's in the works currently! it's very fun to preform :)) alongside theatre, i also write my own songs and play instruments, often with dina, cat, ellie & jesse who also play some instruments and love music just as much as me. i'm also into environmental science and marine biology. sometimes i work at an aquarium part time during the summer — but at other times, i work at dina's moms restaurant. it's a cute little place not too far from our homes, where me and my friends always hangout at whenever we wanna eat & talk during the school semesters. i enjoy life guarding with ellie & dina during the summer aswell, so whenever i'm free that's another job i like to pick up! in my "better cr", i did dance as a kid: ballet & hip hop specifically. but i quit just before my freshman year because i wanted to focus on school & theatre. though, my dance skills definitely come in handy in some musical theatre preformances lol. another interest of mine in this reality is horror films and halloween, i really love the fall season and all the scary things surrounding it. my bedroom has a lot of horror themed posters & little figures, along with my ocean and music themed ones (because like i said, i love music and marine biology!).

︎ ︎ ︎: as i mentioned in another post, i am a member of a band in my western singer dr. but, that's not full time since obviously my solo career takes up majority of my time and the music i produce. but in this reality, i am a band member first and a soloist second. my band is called "tellafairy" (haha guess where that's from 🤔) also stylized as TAF, though we actually had 2 other names before we finalized it to tellafairy. my band members consists of : nat & robin (from yellowjackets in cr), jesse & dina (from tlou in cr) & me !! our music is mainly stolen from radiohead and paramore in my cr , though i also scripted some songs from some smaller bands in my cr i really enjoy, andddd of course we also write our own music in this reality. our band is based in NYC, and all of our members met in college. i do have a small solo career on the side, but i've only released 2 single songs under my solo name. ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ 𓂃˖ ࣪⊹ sai profile : 20 | main vocalist | love interest : nat , but it can change. | attends : NYU (new york university) as a biology major.

︎ ︎ ︎: this is another music focused dr (suprise suprise), it's based in san francisco, hence the title. in this reality, i'm a small underground artist. my entire disography is stole from the artist ethel cain in my cr. i haven't scripted much for this reality! i kind of just want it to play out however, i don't have any specific desires or outcome expectations for this reality... i live alone in an apartment in san francisco and often play shows at local bars and stuff. living out micro celebrity realness 😎. my friends are once again, dina jesse cat & ellie. anddd honestly idk what else to say there's not much happening yet!

︎ ︎ ︎: like ellie, i was born during the apocalypse to a mother who passed away due to being bitten while giving birth to me, causing me to be immune. my father is tommy and my step mom is maria. my love interest is ellie, i don't see this ever changing, though it's good to be noted that our relationship has started off as enemies to lovers. mainly because ellie initially doesn't really like me due to some sort of jealousy. dina is my best friend (she's honestly my best friend in every reality except my yellowjackets dr or kpop drs). joel doesn't die in my reality, because he's my uncle i obviously wouldnt want that. instead, he goes missing, leaving me and ellie to find him (this is where i'm hopefull our relationship will progress), but he doesn't get severely hurt or murdered. this hasn't occurred in my dr yet, but it's what i scripted will happen to him to keep the experience semi similar to the video game.

B- Dickbabs! When I first got into fandom, my perception of Dickbabs was mostly aged down Barbara, Robin/Batgirl (which I'm neutral/uninterested for) or Nightwing/Batgirl (which I really really don't like) so I didn't see the appeal, but it turns out you can do whatever you want and shipping is fun and fuck Tom King -I unfortunately don't recall who first had the idea but someone mentioned Nightwing/Oracle with the original age gap between the two and I'm like hey you know what now that sounds interesting. Also I'm a very enthusiastic multishipper and with Barbara I gotta be honest I love her a cheater (especially when she doesn't realize she's doing it)/having a bit of a harem. She will make you fall in love with her and it is going to ruin your life and she might not even realize it meanwhile it's going to haunt you for the rest of your life. Anyway I like the idea of Barbara considering Dick kinda like a fun refreshing adventure and not really interested in committment contrasting with Dick's utter devotion, with a touch of miscommunication because Dick kinda just assumes that the relationship means the same for her as it does for him and meanwhile there's a reason she never put words on it or had a conversation about it, and thought he was on the same page. Add to that some more control issues and deep desire for freedom and independence from both of them and there you have a Dickbabs dynamic I actually really like. (Let me never be accused of only enjoying healthy ships).

O-maybe because I made the rena playlist recently and have been listening to it a lot but yeah All the Dying by Mother Mother, aside from being a great fucking song in general, is so jayrena to me. Specifically during the period where they're separated and the "choir" type music at the end is Rena finding Red Hood crucified. I've made so many jayrena edits to this songs in my head it's on loop. S- large deep dark brown eyes for Jason. Yes I know it doesn't match the large majority of canon but it should. Why? Brown eyes are so beautiful and deserve so much more love and I hate that dc is allergic to brown eyes and because Jason is my favourite character he should get my favourite eye colour. But mostly it's because brown eyes are pretty. Also ik people like lazarus mood ring eyes- I raise you -golden mood ring eyes (because golden lazarus pits look great). So brown eyes that maybe grow gold when he's getting in "the zone" (deeply focused and about to kill someone). But mostly just, big beautiful brown eyes.

Z- Have you guys ever heard of the second Crimson Avenger ? (<- yes I know I'm the most annoying person on earth what are you gonna do). She's a maybe undead spirit and also the avatar of the spirit of vengeance. My theory is Geoff Johns wrote her as an incarnation of the danger of the cycle of vengeance (ik, boring morality lesson vibe but he didn't develop that and instead we get good stuff about agency, don't worry) but she works so well as a story about secondary trauma. She's one of my favourite dc characters, and one of my favourite ghost stories! I have many ideas about her interacting with Jason, counting but not limited to:

-AU where Jason stays dead after the end of UTH and Jill comes after both Joker and Batman to avenge him

-AU where Jason is alive but his ghost from where he was dead asks Jill for help after Batman 148 and she's very confused with what's going on, and tries to make sense of the duality between the depressed, resigned man who wants to die and the furious boy who knows he deserved to live- the duality between the two of them confuses the guns enough to give her agency, but what can she do?

-no cape AU where Jill is a prosecution lawyer (i think? Not sure how the us justice system works) who specializes in CSA cases and she tries to help kid!Jason case while struggling on the edge of burnout.

-college AU with all of my personal dream outlaws where she is president of the debate club and also she's part of the outlaws which is its own club dedicated towards activism wrt sexual violence on campus, but on top of the usual activism during the day, certain members of the club reunite at night to assert a more... definitive solution, under Jill's motto "Justice is vengeance". (So like, Jill isn't the actual president of the club, but she sure is the leader of the nighttime version of the club -and Jason is one of her biggest followers.)

-and of course, there's my head canon, aka the completely different fleshed out canon that exists only in my head, in which Jill for a long time is a very important active member of the Outlaws and gets a lot of character-centric arc, as well as a very intense, heavily developed romance with Raphael Arce that I have been informed reminds certain people of telenovela stories with its dramatic twists and magical memory loss subplots.

How Project Monarch fails the "Six Ways To Debunk Any Conspiracy Theory" sniff test

The 2017 article Six Ways To Debunk Any Conspiracy Theory lists six characteristics of conspiracy thinking that break down with a small amount of critical thinking. (I recommend reading the whole thing for yourself!)

If we compare the claims made about Project Monarch to the six items on this list, we can see that they meet five of the six items all six items, including:

No Leaks: The type of programming methods associated with Project Monarch have allegedly been practiced for at least seventy years in numerous countries (including but not limited to the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, and France) in all levels of society, yet no documents containing evidence proving its existence (such as documents containing alter scripts, programming and ritual protocols, programming session notes, alter access codes, and various memos) has ever been leaked.

Evidence Gap: Investigations of cases where we might expect to find evidence of Monarch-style programming have never found any such thing. If this was happening in the way people claim, we should expect at least some criminal investigations (including but not limited to investigations of child abuse, drug possession, and murder) to also uncover the aforementioned document types. We should also expect the more obvious programming tools and props (such as human-sized cages, ETC devices, ritual sites done up to look like UFOs or whatever, programming tapes and audio files, etc) to turn up in conjunction with such documents. And of course, we should be finding a lot more animal and human remains, with all of the ritual sacrifices they're supposedly performing.

Inconsistent Capabilities: Believers claim that programming cults are so hypercompetent that can hide or destroy all physical evidence of their existence, and apparently never place any digital literature on unsecure devices or file servers. Yet they are somehow also so inept that they can't stop all of these alleged victims from telling everything to their therapists, writing and publishing books, and from posting online. (They've apparently never heard of stalkerware, or at least not allowing someone to use the Internet without heavy supervision.)

Prediction Horizon: The alleged triggers that supposedly force different alters to front or activate specific programming are often extremely commonplace stimuli, including (but not limited to) simple colors, patterns, and images (for example, the image of a specific flower), common phrases (for example, "I called to see how you're feeling") and common gestures (for example, clasped hands).

It would be impossible for programmers to prevent their victims from coming across many of these triggers by pure happenstance, because they simply can't predict or control other people's behavior on a large enough scale. They can't know or control, for example, when the pop song they've used as a trigger will play on the radio in a store, or when the neighbor will suddenly decide to plant a bed of daisies, or when a bank teller will wear a blue silk shirt. And considering some of the roles alters are allegedly programmed for, things would get really awkward really fast.

Method-Goal Mismatch: Monarch-type programming is still allegedly practiced today because numerous cults and abusive groups want perfectly compliant, obedient people. But the methods they are claimed to use are both extraordinarily risky and effort-intensive, and ultimately do not appear to be more rewarding than conventional methods of indoctrination, manipulation, and generally limiting a person's capacity to exercise autonomy (such as deprivation of education, funds, and legal papers).

Unfalsifiable: Failure to locate hard evidence of Project Monarch or Monarch-like practices are attributed to the alleged hypercompetence of the cultists, government agents, etc. When the question of why neighbors, teachers, doctors, etc. didn't notice anything strange comes up, believers claim they're all cultists or agents. Records that contradict claims of ritual abuse are claimed to be falsified. Obviously impossible events described by patients are simply chalked up to confusion from drugged states. Numerous books in favor of this conspiracy theory assures us that denying abuse or admitting to your therapist that you fabricated your claims is further evidence of programming.

In conclusion, while we know that Project MK-Ultra existed, claims of Project Monarch's existence and the widespread, even systemic practice of the techniques it alleged developed are easily demonstrated as nothing more than conspiracy theories.

Ahhh okay this is so cute. Im going to try to explain this as best as I can, Pile 1. So this seems like a concept album. The idea of the album (not the sound but idea ya know) reminds me of “Melodrama” by Lorde. I’ll leave a quote here for a better description but it’s like a concept album about a single night

“Melodrama is described as a loose concept album that explores the theme of solitude, in the framework of a single house party with the events and moods that entail it”

The album about you is similar in the sense that it’s a “loose concept album” but it’s about the writer seeing you. It’s like you’re at this party that the songwriter is also at and they’re obsessed from the moment they lay eyes on you. You’re like this beautiful unobtainable being to them and they want to get to know you so bad but they just can’t seem to talk to you. This could also progress to a one night stand that never progresses to more because of a lack of communication to this album is going through the writer meeting you and watching you throughout the night and then goes into their regrets and what they wish they would have said to you the next day, if that makes sense.

They see you at a party and think you’re so beautiful but can’t seem to find the words to tell you that. I keep hearing “I like the way my bedsheets look on your body” from “hello!” By role model. (I believe that’s the right song but lmk if it’s wrong so I can fix it!) and I keep being reminded of this musician on TikTok “Chappell Roan” and their song “Red Wine Supernova” I think that’s similar to what this album would sound like and it also fits the aesthetic. I highly recommend you listen to this song because it fits your album so perfectly. I tried to find a lyric that resonates the best to include but they all work so well that I couldn’t choose.

Despite this entire album being about only you and just one night leading into the next morning, it’s still so diverse (I hope that makes sense) like you’d think there’s only so many songs you could write about a 12ish hour time frame and one person but this writer has endless things to say about you and the night you met them. I could see one song having a feature and it’s later in the album somewhere between tracks 7-12 or so. The aesthetic of the album is very neon lights, the dance floor on prom night after everything has died down and people are starting to go home, slow, melodramatic and just really pretty. Again, I highly recommend you check out “Red Wine Supernova” because it fits so well.

Pile Two

Pile two, your album sounds like one written by Hozier, Noah Kahan or The Lumineers. It reminds me a lot of “Angela” by The Lumineers. Specifically the lyric “Angela, spent your whole life running away” and “vacancy, hotel room, lost in me, lost in you” it also reminds me of Ethel Cain in the sense that it’s a concept album about running away and starting a new life (but not as dark as ethel’s and with a much better outcome than she got. I heard “success story” it’s about leaving behind a difficult past and moving forward. There’s hope for the future in these songs, remembrance of the past and healing trauma. It’s a beautiful album with a good balance of different emotions. I could see this album coming with a short film or a series of music videos that piece together to tell a store. Similar to “III” by the Lumineers.

I keep hearing a few snippets from the deluxe version of “Stick Season” (that will be out June 9th 👀) like “Medicate meditate swear your soul to Jesus / Throw a punch fall in love give yourself a reason” or “we ain’t angry at you love, you’re the greatest thing we’ve lost” it’s such a beautiful album with so much soul and emotion.

I could see this album getting an acoustic live version that artists do sometimes like “Album, live from Wherever” you know? This album has very unique and catchy lyrics that stick with people, the type of lyrics people take and sell on things in their Etsy shop or use as a quote in their yearbook or put in their instagram bio. It almost feels like poetry. I also heard “escapism” this is the type of music that paints a picture and takes you somewhere else. This album will kind of chronologically tell a story about you moving forward and healing from trauma and finding a peaceful ending. Ending with a song like “Angelia”

I feel like this album has a soft rock sort of sound? Like hozier with a rockier edge if that makes sense? It reminds me of the way hozier sings about love. He sings about a very deep and impactful love and his writing his like poetry and I think that’s what an album about you would sound like. I think this album could be about the writer/musician fighting feelings for you because they’re focused on career or are just concerned about the outcome of the relationship. They might have a fear of falling or something.

However, the last card I pulled was the 10 of cups so the outcome is very good. I feel like this album is coming from a reflective place like this is after yourself and your spouse have settled down and had kids or pets or whatever you would like and your partner is looking back at your relationship from the very beginning up until now and writing about it.

I keep hearing “I’m in love with an emo girl” I don’t think this is what the album will sound like but maybe that’s your aesthetic/vibe? This might just be conformation for you. I also keep hearing that Shania Twain song “you’re still the one” this is the kind of album that fans would dissect like narrow down the time you met your person and talk about every lyric and how that lyric relates to you and your relationship etc. this album talks about how devoted and in love with you your person is but also talks about the (I heard “trials and tribulations”) it took for you two to get there so it may include religious reference. Like religion by Lana Del Rey or Don’t Blame Me by Taylor Swift where there’s this slight aspect of religion/devotion to your partner.

You hear a lot about how you have to actively choose your partner everyday to make a long term relationship work and this album would definitely delve into that a little. It could also be produced by you and your partner’s mutual friends or people who have been there since the beginning or very early in in your relationship. I think this would be a longer album and there’s definitely 18+ songs on there 👀

Since I have a minute, I figured I'd finally drop the list with some brief explanations:

1. By Way Of Sorrow - Coyote Grace version

This song and its lyrics, especially as sung by a queer/trans bluegrass band, could not be more Jew-ish in vibe. I am aware this is a cover, but I have only ever heard their version and that's the one that matters to me. I love love love this song, so much, and it perfectly captures how I feel about having been welcomed into the Jewish people after years of exclusion and othering from numerous other quarters. Am Yisrael has taken me in, treated me like family, connected me to the Divine, healed my wounds, and helped me feel as whole as one can in a broken and unredeemed world - while giving me the tools to join the work of tikkun olam myself.

2. The Farthest Field - The Lumber Jills version

This is the best version I could find; the original I was shown I can't find but will link if I do. This song was actually introduced to me by one of my orthodox rabbis, and I agree with him that it can be understood as a beautiful image of geulah.

3. Hallelujah - Coyote Grace & Girlyman

This one just makes me happy, and the words, message, and themes are very on-brand for Jewish vibes as well in my opinion.

4. Be Thou My Vision - old Irish Hymn (this version and this version are my favorites)

This one is very obviously a hymn and therefore decidedly Not Jewish. On the other hand, the words aren't so explicitly Christian that it rules out use by Jews (in my opinion) and especially if you translate the words into Hebrew, it sounds just like a traditional piyyut. (@springstarfangirl if you want to add your beautiful translation, please feel free!)

5. Down to the River to Pray - Alison Krauss

This is one where I do think the lyrics are a lot closer to being Christian specific, but it makes the list for a couple reasons: first, I've encountered it in Jewish-specific contexts without modification (one of our rabbis actually had us sing it like a regular song during zemirot), and second, there's a modified version by Nefesh Mountain that's quite enjoyable.

6. Whither Thou Goest - traditional

Yes, this one is a hymn too, but the words are directly quoting the Book of Ruth - her famous vows to Naomi, and to the Jewish people - and so it's already practically a Jewish song. It also has a special place of pride for me as a ger, and also because I used it as my wedding song in both the English (as heard in this version) and I also transliterated the Hebrew for our singer to do as well. It works nicely in both languages!

7. Roll the Ol' Chariot - David Coffin

This one I think is a little less direct, but I love it and included it for two reasons: first, it's a song of getting through it and surviving and thriving under tough circumstances, and second, you could very easily put liturgy to this melody instead.

8. For the Autumn Sky - traditional

Ignoring the last verse, this hymn could be very easily adapted into a beautiful Sukkot melody. For the last verse, I'd either simply leave it out, or one could write a Sukkot or Tu Bishvat themed verse to distinguish it. Incidentally, this was one of my favorite hymns growing up.

9. Sanctuary - Shaker melody

The video for this one is obviously mega-Christian, but it's on the list because we actually sing it all the time in shul and it has a special place in my memory from going to camp as a kid. Our shul is definitely not the only one who uses it in a Jewish context, either: this version by Cantor Julia Cadrain is really lovely.

10. Genesis 3:23 - The Mountain Goats

Where are my fellow Mountain Goats fans?? I know you're out there, lol. Look, I know that John Darnielle is coming at this from a Christian perspective, but two things: first of all, TMG has a number of Jewish fans I think at least in part because the lyrics speak deeply to the specific feelings around life (and other people) being horrible to you, surviving, and thriving even in the wake of deep trauma. Second of all, I think this one in particular brings up a number of interesting ideas about the meaning of home, of homecoming, of returning to a home that no longer really exists in the same way, and of exile and redemption. What would it look like to return to Gan Eden? Is this what geulah is supposed to look like, at least in some interpretations? What does it mean if not?

Notes from the Taskmaster 16x10 recording

The last two episode recordings I went to, I meant to make comprehensive notes when I got home afterwards that I would be able to look back at and post when the episode aired. I did not, in fact, end up doing that. So this time I was determined to have lots of notes, and made them on the go in the breaks in recording. However. They were made in a rush and I never went back through them to pad them out (you'd really think I would have learned by now). So instead of just having to rely on my memory, I ended up with an almost coded list of words and phrases that it's taken me pretty much 2 weeks to sit down and decipher lol. So with that said:

the pre-episode Greg-Alex entertainment was Greg getting Alex to sing a song about a recent news story to the tune of a song suggested by the audience - in this case it was Trump's lawsuit (the one in May 2023 since there are...a few) to the tune of Wuthering Heights

Alex really went for the whole live thing, and was constantly referring to it throughout the episode

when the contestants came onstage, I obviously first saw Sam in his bright colours and blond hair

we were right on the back balcony and my first impression from that distance was that he kinda looked like Jamie Laing lol

Greg made a passing comment about how he's been dressing in grey but I was completely taken by surprise when the vt rolled and he looked completely different!

I had assumed he'd actually buzzed his hair and didn't realise it was a wig until the ep aired

Sue made comments throughout the episode about how Sam looked like Dahmer

Lucy's prize task story, unsurprisingly, went on for ages and included a whole story about the holiday they went on that I tragically cannot remember

Julian's exercise name was absolutely not a one-off, to the point they started running a 'cunt count' for the episode

Sue talked about how she had recently had an ADHD diagnosis, and that she kept viewing tasks holistically rather than paying attention to the details. This was specifically in relation to the exercise where she just did the same thing 4 times

I'm not sure if we saw the full extended version of Hotel Taskmaster, but we definitely saw a cut that included more than the aired version (though tbh I think they do that for most tasks and I just noticed this one bc we got the extended version)

We got an 'I put it to you' from Greg that Alex-as-Qrs looked genuinely cool

Lucy described Alex as having 'tight metallic buns' which Greg later referred to as his 'robot arse'

I cannot stress how much of a breakdown Susan had in the studio about the forks and marbles - you get a glimpse in the episode but that was nothing!

Susan also took AGES to do her throw in the live task - she kept on being about to throw before being interrupted, or saying her arms were too short, or that she needed a wee, or having a fit of giggles, and the longer it went the worse it got lol

Greg and Alex also had a go at it, and Sue wanted another go without the pressure. Greg and Sue got the ball in but Alex didn't

Don't ask me to remember the context, but at one point during the record, Greg told a story about someone he knew (whose name he said he would tell the others backstage) who would have sex in a cow mask and would demand 'LOOK AT ME!!!'. Anyway that was referred back to a few times in the ep

When Sam was given the trophy he just stood near-motionless with it for what felt like ages before we got to the hugs and everything

At some point around the prize / first task I wrote 'correct dog guess'. Whose dog? What was being guessed? Absolutely no idea

At some point there was a joke about the 'former Prime Minister', I think the idea being that by the time the episode aired we'd inevitably have a new PM? but I honestly can't remember

Someone called someone else submissive in a way notable enough for me to have written 'submissive' as a one-word bullet point, but not notable enough for me to actually remember

YES YES YES OMG OKAY HI. i have been Waiting for a chance to talk to her but its been so long since i've reread the books that specifically involve her that i feel like my knowledge of her as a character has dipped. still !!

favorite thing about them: her attitude, honestly. i LOVE a rude character, especially when that comes from a place of jealousy, and she is my Queen of jealous behavior <3

least favorite thing about her: difficult question, to be honest! anything i dislike is often sort of meta and aimed at derek landy's method of writing characters who have been "brainwashed."

fav line: DIFFICULT!!! "surprise," when she first goes to hunt valkyrie in db is a classic, but i thiiink. i think i'd have to go for a moment later in that conversation, when she talks about what it feels like to be a god.

like... she's so clearly desperate to convince herself just as much as she's desperate to convince val, and i love it so much. she's so SO messed up.

brOTP: i honestly don't look at mel as someone with a lot of friends, but one of my favorite dynamics i like to run over in my head is her and clarabelle. i think interactions between them could be so so funny and honestly really cute - mel's such a self-centered grump, it would be fun to see her against someone who's so constantly lighthearted.

OTP: val/melancholia has my heart . like literally forever. they're so awful to each other in the beginning but they establish this understanding that actually means so so much to me? their dynamic is so fun to play with, and i have an au where mel ends up near val during the post-dotl time skip that i think about All The Time.

nOTP: haven't seen anyone actually ship these two, but just one thing i would be decidedly uninterested in is mel and craven. for a lot of reasons overall, but idk. with the way derek writes their relationship i wouldn't be comfortable seeing them in anything outside of what they already are - which is uncomfortable in itself, to be honest.

random headcanon: i like to think she used to be a writer, when she had free time. i don't really have a basis for it, but i like to think about 15 yr old mel with a poetry journal, scribbling down edgy lines and dreaming about becoming the next sylvia plath. i just really like the idea of her with dreams before she became the death bringer.

unpopular opinion: um. i haven't really seen enough opinions About mel to necessarily have an 'unpopular' one? i guess mine is like... i would've actually liked to see more of her and the consequences of her failing on the necromancer community.

song i associate with them: okay. a song with both vibe and lyrics that fit her would be this but i have like. a whole list of specific val/mel songs and songs that mel would just break down upon hearing the lyrics of, including satisfied by MARINA, to be seen by searows, and drunk drivers/killer whales by carseat headrest. also, the line from the arcane s2 soundtrack goes CRAZY as a melancholia song, actually.

favorite picture of them: i don't feel right reposting other people's art, but i've really only ever seen @nicstylus draw her, so PLEEEASE go check out their stuff because its brilliant <3
