If i may take a bit of your time to talk about some of the lyrics in "Rain". Specifically these ones:

I've seen some folks touch on how this is Vessel admitting that he's not blameless in all the previous painful situations he's encountered. Sort of like a mutually toxic relationship, for example. And I can absolutely see that being the case. But I just wanna point something else out real quick:

Vessel has never shown us his eyes. In fact, the only part of his face that we've ever seen is from the mouth down.

It's easier to be vulnerable when people can't look you in the eye. I think it plays into a desire to bare your soul to someone, but also mentally preparing yourself to be hurt in return. Knowing that, if you do show that vulnerability, then you have to be prepared to bite back if (when?) the person you've chosen to trust hurts you in response.

It may also tie into the idea that, internally, you can be soft and gentle and long for someone to love who loves you in return. But you're so afraid of being hurt that you unintentionally drive people away with words before they get close (aka giving them the chance to hurt you). Like a self-fulfilling prophecy that you're completely aware of, but one that's so, so hard to stop.
