Hello! Now that we’ve seen all of the American ice dancers skate twice on the Grand Prix, I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on their programs, placements, presentation etc? Thank you :)
Chock and Bates: A solid rhythm dance with a lagging second half which showcases Madi's charisma and makes you forget Evan is there, which is always their goal. Their free dance is a travesty with a few stand out moment, like the stationary lift, but ultimately is boring and I don't like it. They are comfortably the top team, and no one is getting close to them.
Green and Parsons: They are the only other American team to medal at the GP event, which will help them at nationals. Their rhythm dance is stronger than their free dance, but it seems clear that Caroline isn't happy where she is, last season they were competing with Lajoie and Lagha, and are not consistently scoring 10-15 points less than them.
Carreira and Ponomarenko: They have the best pair of programs of the season, in my opinion. Both of them are wonderfully choreographed, and it looks like they both enjoy skating them very much. That free dance is such a moment, and it builds so well. I love their material. They got unlucky with placements this year. I hope and wish that they will be battling for a worlds spot.
Pate and Bye: I don't like their programs, they got an immense about of love at the Autumn Classic, but have consistently scored under what scored at the beginning of the season. I don't think they will be anywhere near a world spot, they are comfortably the bottom middle of the pack.
The Browns: Such good basics, it's a shame they need to reuse costumes, I hope they can place well at Nationals, and maybe get some funding, because they deserve it. The free dance is good, the rhythm dance isn't my favourite. I'm glad they have been consistently out placing other US teams, their 4th at Skate Canada was huge.
Zingas and Kolesnik: She doesn't look like an ice dancer yet, she doesn't skate like one, she's sloppy in places that should be muscle memory, and that's just a matter of practice and time for her to get into this discipline. They have some nice moments in their free dance, but the material is so glaringly Igor that it really holds them back. Igor is going to be fighting very very hard for them to get onto the World team, and I think it's possibly he succeeds.
Hawayek and Baker: I'm just adding them at the end here, we don't know if they are going to show up at Nationals, and at this point, I don't think they should. I think it's retirement time for them. US ice dance is so stacked with up and coming teams, they will either be just squeaking out a bronze, or possibly end up off the podium at this point. I could see them wanting to do one more Worlds, and in the city they train, but I just don't think it's a good idea. I miss them. Sigh.

It was so strange to me to read the scene where Snowbush dies cause he's apparently Lilyheart's husband )I think) yet we never see him do anything before he dies. Shouldn't we have seen him interact more with Twigpaw if he was so important to lily?
well as this book asserts over and over with fernsong, a tom interacting with and parenting his children is weird and unusual! so snowbush was probably a deadbeat dad and no one cared! because thats the female's job. /s
actually we don't see his kits react to his death at all, twigpaw only ever talks about lilyheart and iirc doesn't really respond to his death in any unique way. for larksong being a topic in this book, we don't really see him interacting with snowbush and he doesn't seeeeeem to have a unique reaction to snowbush's death, especially not compared to his mother. so the erins might actually have thought that, idk.

How I'm doing the busted knuckles on my doll!
This tutorial is MOSTLY so i can remember how to do it for future dolls but figured I would post it!
First, I lay down a couple colours of pastel. The first color is a sort of warm purple color and the second is a brighter teal.
This gets the resin to look irritated! I use a eyeshadow brush that's pretty flat and thin to really pack the color on there. I use a lot more purple and add the blue when I'm closer to the color I want!!
^ i had accidentally sealed in some green from a different part of the hand I was blushing so the pinky looks kinda gnarly here! The sealant I use wiped off some of the pastel so for the next one I did, I made sure to use a big brush to remove the excess powders before sealing lol. You can kinda see how I have some areas more concentrated than others but I was also considering how certain injuries would look in terms of what I was referencing (ie making the entire side of the hand bruised vs just the injury spot)
Then I use a few watercolor paints to achieve the main shape of the wound. First, a warmish light purple in a very rough circle shape, it does NOT have to be perfect at all. Then a medium shade blue, going over the purple when it's still wet, leaving just a small circle of purple to outline the shape. I let them kind of mix together on the resin as I paint it on! Then i go in with a slightly more blood red, adding that over the blue and covering nearly all of it, mixing the two colors together. When I'm nearly done, I add a basic red color on top and mix just a bit, keeping the fine purple and blue lines there on the outside of the wound.
^ colors labeled by how I explained them above
I let that dry a bit, then get a bit of Elmer's glue (I use glue-all but you can really just use the normal school glue stuff, this is just what I had on hand) and a toothpick. I use the toothpick to create an edge around the wound, letting it get blending into the resin that isn't part of the wound but keeping the wound itself having a semi harsh circle around it.
^ you can see the glue here, I also mixed up glue with a small amount of both my usual red pastel I use for blushing (which is about the same color of color #3 of the watercolors) and the purple color I used for the bruises and applied it to the center of the wound. I personally chose to leave a small area of it unglued (or less glued) to give it a fresher wound appearance.
^ this is with the glue dried after two coats of glue! I do the second coat after the first is fully dry and just go around the outside edges with more of the uncolored glue. It adds more of a raised appearance to it :)

you can do whatever you want forever but that doesnt stop other people from being affected by ur actions. the media you choose to create or consume isnt an absolute proof of your moral values, but it does indicate things about how you view the world around you. did you know that things can be complicated and nuanced? did you know? its really scary, its okay, you can hold my hand, but the world exists outside of online social groups that are pro- or anti- whatever the hot topic is. you dont deserve death threats for the things ur into. when u make that information public people will react to it. these two things can exist in tandem.
art is a form of communication, art communicates something. obviously art doesnt always represent the artist's opinions or deep inner thoughts but if the artist keeps drawing nsfw of a pubescent girl specifically because they think her age/immaturity/lack of power/whatever is hot, i don't blame anyone for having their opinion of that person affected by it. art doesn't exist in a vacuum.
obviously fuck the hyper-sanitization of media. that doesnt mean swing to the exact opposite and radically accept all forms of media as having no relation or impact to the wants and actions of its creator. the world doesn't exist in black and white and its sooooo important to learn that

let's hear about poor That Guy
ok so prefacing by saying that all of the events that befall my poor dnd character today have the rough comedic timing of This Video.
that's a good sign. anyway our team gets ambushed by goblins, this is our second actual combat encounter.
we all roll initiative. that guy gets a Two.
because they do not have time to distance themself (they are a ranged fighter generally) the closest goblin hits them with OVER HALF THEIR HP.
they distance themself and try to fire back. MISS with a fucking. 12. best roll that session.
their next turn they use arcane weapon to give their pistol a buff and roll to fire. They Roll A One.
this guy's pistol misfires, blowing up Straight In Their Face for not only 1d10 (+2!) piercing but ALSO 1d6 lightning damage from the spell they just fucking used. killing them instantly (they were fine)
god. bless.
