CW: OD and coke addiction
Bruce knew what was going on. He'd been an insanely rich teenager too, granted Tim was a little more stressed than he was at 17. He's not blaming Tim, he'd never blame anyone for an addiction but it was getting worse. Tim was good at hiding it from the public and his friends (if he was hiding it from them at all. Bruce should investigate that further), but it was hard to hide things in a house full of detectives.
The sudden erratic highs and low lows were hidden because everyone in this family had some sort of those. The late-night spikes of energy could be accounted for by the mini-fridge full of energy drinks in his room. His paranoia and anxiety were just par for the course with Tim, no one would bat an eye. But there were some things he couldn't hide. Tim was losing weight. Dramatically. If he wasn't light before, he was now. He skipped almost every meal but he never made a peep about being hungry. His exhaustion was evident in his eye bags, but he never acted tired.
But then, during his lows, Tim looked sick. He looked so much smaller, so vulnerable. He looked like he was thirteen again. When the joy of Robin had just rubbed off, faster than it did with the others. Just sad eyes and a thin frame, sinking in on itself and avoiding Bruce like the plague.
What scared Bruce was that he knew he couldn't stop Tim if Tim didn't want to stop. Short of having eyes on him 24/7, Bruce couldn't control Tim's actions without destroying their relationship. Even then, the second Tim was away from him again he might go back to using. But he wanted to help. He needed to at least talk to him.
Back when Bruce had been using he had Alfred and Harvey. He hadn't felt a need to hide anything from Harvey because it was cool back then. It was a truly casual thing, you did a line before an event, or during if the host had any. That was being rich. Bruce didn't need help because no one needed help. Until he became dependent. Everywhere he went, every day, if he didn't have at least one bump first, he couldn't get through it. Bruce was a good actor, he always had been. That was part of being famous. Bruce was good at hiding his anger and paranoia because you can't always be scared and angry at everyone, even when you are.
Bruce had screamed at Alfred. And he never hated himself more. He screamed and insulted one of the only people who knew him. Liked him. Everyone loved Bruce Wayne, but no one really liked him. Not like Alfred. And he'd screamed at him. Bruce overdosed that night. He hated himself so much and the thoughts wouldn't go away no matter how much he took. He woke up a day later in a hospital bed with Alfred next to him.
Getting off coke was one of the hardest things Bruce had ever done. It'd be hard for Tim. But it was possible, and that's what mattered. He found Tim after patrol finishing his log for the day. Damian had long since gone to sleep but Tim was still wide awake, full of energy. Just like the last three days. His domino mask was still on but Bruce was sure if he took it off Tim's pupils would be the size of sausers.
"Tim," he started. The boy, because that's what he was, a little boy, jumped. "If you're finished, I'd like to talk to you."
Tim quickly glanced over his shoulder. Bruce is sure there's a tension that Tim can see in him, but he doesn't say anything. "Yeah, I'm pretty much done. What's up." He spins to face Bruce in his chair.
Bruce took a deep breath. He wondered if this was what it was like for Alfred. "I'm... worried about you. I-"
He didn't want to say it. Even if he knew without a shadow of a doubt, saying it made it real. And once he did there was no going back. And if he was wrong, God how he wanted to be wrong, he would've accused Tim of something awful. But no matter how he looked at it, this was reality. Tim hating him was better than Tim being dead.
"I know... you've been using cocaine." He looked for Tim's reaction. The boy looked clammed up suddenly. Like he'd rather be anywhere else. It didn't surprise Bruce but it confirmed what he already knew. What he wished he didn't know. "And I'm not judging you. God knows I'm not, I'm just worried."
"I'm fine, Bruce," Tim said. His voice was small and Bruce could tell he was looking anywhere but him despite facing him.
"Okay. I don't agree. I just want you to know that just because this feels good now, it can seriously hurt you later. If you-"
"I'm not you Bruce. I'm not an addict, I can hold myself together." Tim's face had twisted into anger. "Just because you almost killed yourself doesn't mean I will or want to."
That hurt a little. He shouldn't be surprised Tim knew about his overdose, it was a public obsession for a while and Tim was his self-proclaimed biggest fan before he became Robin. But it still hurt. Either way, Bruce just nodded and reminded himself it wasn't Tim. He was being affected by an exterior source, besides he could've said worse.
"I'm not saying that, sweetheart. I'm just saying you're headed down a dangerous path. I know how hard it can be, you know that. I want what's best for you, I want you to be healthy. Whenever you come down you look half dead. You don't sleep, you barely eat, if you're not working, you're not home."
"So what, I can't hang out with my friends? I'm sorry you can't understand or maintain interpersonal connections, but you're supposed to hang out with your friends." Tim stood from his chair. "I'm not talking about this with you. I finished my log, I'm going to my room."
"Tim. Sit down," Bruce ordered.
Tim scoffed. "I don't know if you've noticed Bruce, but you're not my father. The second I'm out of the cowl, your orders are barely suggestions. You're lucky I can stand even being around you anymore because trust me, most of us tolerate you at the most. There's a reason Dick left the second he was 18, there's a reason Jason would rather kill himself again before he lives another day in this house, there's a reason all of us would rather have our own lives outside of you. Me, Cass, Steph, Duke, none of us can stand being around you. The only reason Damian still does what you say is because he's literally a brainwashed cult baby. The only reason I don't leave is because you would literally kill yourself without a babysitter."
There was a lump in Bruce's throat. He'd learned not to cry before he learned to fight, but God did he want to. It's not Tim, he reminded himself again. The worst part was that he knew it was true, at least partially. He knew his kids loved him, that was an indisputable fact. But they also always let him know when he messed up. When he hurt them. All accept Tim (and Damian, but that was a different story).
Because Tim was never there to be a child. Bruce realized that a while ago, but no matter how he tried to remedy it one thing was the same. Tim hadn't entered his life to be a child, Tim was, despite everything and no matter how Bruce hated it, a caretaker. He shouldn't've been, he was only thirteen, but Bruce had let him. He tried to fix it, he really did. He tried to treat TIm like any of his other kids. But had he ever properly apologized? Was that why Tim felt like he had to do this to himself? He took a step forward and reached out.
"I know. I know. I'm so sorry, sweetheart, I put too much on you."
Tim jerked away and all but growled at Bruce. "Don't touch me! This is your fault, damn straight you put too much on me. Do you know how fucking draining it is to deal with you every day? I'm surprised no one else you know is coked up all the time. Do you even know what it's like to deal with you?"
"I'm sorry." That was all Bruce could say again. His voice sounded weaker than he would have liked. He looked away and kept his hands to himself. "I'm really, truly sorry, Tim. I'm just... I love you. I should've never been your responsibility. You've always done so much for me and I haven't given you the appreciation you deserve. But I love you. And I'm worried. And I want to help you because you're better than me. You always have been." He took another step, closing the gap between them. He placed a palm on Tim's cheek. He didn't notice before but it was starting to sink. "You're an amazing person. And I don't want you to end up like I did."
Bruce could hear Tim's breath hitch. When he looks into Tim's eyes the boy looks like he's about to cry. He looked like he wanted to say something, to apologize. Maybe that was wishful thinking. Tim shoved Bruce's hand away and took a step back.
"Shut up, Bruce. There's nothing wrong with me. You're right, I am better than you."
On that note Tim turned and darted up the stairs, leaving Bruce alone in the cave.

I’m sure someone’s already headcannoned this, but Bruce having pet names for the Batkids? Man, those are his babies—you can bet your ass he has pet names for them. He might not be the type of man to show much affection beyond a shoulder pat or the occasional forehead kiss, but he’s determined to parent the crap outta these orphans, and pet names are an easier medium to show that he cares.
Dick is both “chum” and “sweetheart” depending on the context. When Bruce is feeling playful and comfortable (the easy, “your mine and I’m just happy to be here with you” kind of love), he’ll stick with “chum” and Dick absolutely loves it. But when Dick’s sick or has a nightmare or got injured during patrol? It’s sweetheart. It’s default mode for Bruce, because seeing Dick in pain brings up so many raw, intense emotions (Bruce gets scared, goddamit) that it’s easier for him to say “I’ve got you, sweetheart, it’s okay, just keep your eyes on mine,” then it is to say “I’m so terrified that I’m going to loose you, I love you, you’re my everything.”
Jason is“Jaylad.” But it’s less of the name that’s important and more of the story behind it that is. For the first few months that Jason was in Bruce’s care, Bruce didn’t dare call him anything other then his name, in fear that he’d scare him away (he was already so distrusting, so hesitant, so fearful whenever Bruce talked to loud or moved to fast or got upset), but at the same time, he’d seen how pleased Dick had been at being called “chum” and wanted to bestow a similar endearment on Jason. But—he didn’t want to go to far. So instead of calling him “lad” like his own father had once called him, Bruce calls him “Jaylad.” It’s a little more impersonal, but it makes Jason more comfortable. (But when Bruce cradled his son’s broken body he said “no, darling, not you, don’t leave me—” because just how Dick is “sweetheart,” Jason has also always been “darling.”)
For Tim… it’s more complicated. He shoved his way into Bruce’s life and he’s forever grateful, but it wasn’t the same as it was with Jason and Dick. He sees Tim as his son, of course, but their relationship was built on the darkest, most despairing part of Bruce’s life. But even in that terrible season, Bruce would look over at Tim working on a case or cleaning his suit and say, “Good job, sport.” It doesn’t happen often, but Tim is “sport.”
Cassandra is “love.” Bruce has never said it to her, aloud, but he knows Cass can read him well enough to hear the unspoken endearment, to see how much he longs to protect her, bring her joy, fill her heart with all the love she’s filled his with.
Steph is “duck.” And not necessarily because Bruce decided that it was, but because 9 times out of 10 he finds himself screaming, “Robin, get down!” because Stephanie will not for the love of God follow his orders, and end up right in the line of fire. To save time he eventually just started saying “Duck!” It keeps Steph from getting whacked to high heavens and saves Bruce (another) heart attack, but over the years it’s also become somewhat of a ritual to say “duck” whenever Steph walks in the room. Bruce secretly wants to call her “ducky” (which is what his mother called Kate), but he’s never worked up the nerve.
Duke is “kid.” By the time he’s in the family, Bruce has loosened up and lightened up, especially with everyday affection (which is to say, he’s not avoiding it like the plague). He’s quick to say “Good job, kid” whenever Duke had an accomplishment or ask “how are you today, kiddo?” when they see each other in passing in the Batcave.
Damian, lastly, would never allow Bruce to call him anything other then his name. But every once in a while, Bruce can get away with saying “son.” And it’s the best thing in the world.

Bruce had never been to The Eclipse before.
The club was similar to that of a gentleman’s club from the starting years of America, filled with dozens of tables all curved and ready for a game or feast. The three floors of the place each had a game room, a bar and a section for private rooms for the more seedy type of talks to be had.
It was one of the few non-criminal funded place in Gotham that was still rich. Deals definitely went down, but it was more fitting for gossip that anything else.
Often people went there for catch ups in a refined setting.
Bruce was there for a catch up, or more accurately, a reuniting with his son.
Tim had sent Bruce a time, date and location and said he was only going to meet with him and no one else. Considering Bruce hadn’t seen his beloved son in nearly four years, including his time in the time stream, he accepted without argument.
Tim said he would look different but that if Bruce was as good of a detective as he says, it wouldn’t be a problem.
Bruce had no idea what his son meant until a woman let him inside and told him that ‘Drake had asked you to find him yourself’ with a confused bend in her eyebrows.
It took him a little longer than he’d be happy to admit, although still less than forty seconds, to find his son.
Or maybe that was the wrong word now, if the regal young woman staring at her drink was anything to go by.
Like something out of a vintage movie, the woman had curled black hair and dark red lipsticks. Her dark eyeshadow matched her sweetheart collar dress, black with thick straps and tight enough that each breath was visible.
The gloves on her hand were long and black, one putting a stark contrast to the pink coloured cigarette lit in her hand.
Everything about her screamed old money.
Bruce only knew it was Tim because of the sweet blue eyes and shape of his jaw, though there was also some kind of… paternal instinct in play.
Tim only looked up when he put a hand on the rounded couch, Jim’s tearing nervously down at his distinguished looking child.
It was when she smiled, a real thing that was just highlighted by her dark red lips, that Bruce knew he wasn’t mistaken.
“Hi Bruce.”
A lighter voice, not soft so much as smooth, and nothing like the more monotone sound he was used to.
“Ti-… hi.”
She smiles and gestures for him to sit before taking a final drag of her smoke and putting it out.
Bruce stares at for just a second before looking at his child. Despite the shock of the obvious changes, he notices something far more important, “You look healthy.”
Well fed, clean, nourished.
Like she’s gotten sleep.
“I am. I’ve done a lot of work on myself and it’s paid off.”
Bruce smiles, genuine and almost a little painful, “I can see that. What… what do I call you?”
“Charlotte. Charlotte Jackson Drake.”
“A beautiful name.”
Charlotte smiles before a serious look comes over her face, “Bruce. I haven’t just changed my lifestyle and body, I’ve changed how I look at the world and I’ve come to understand a lot more in my life now.”
Never has Bruce been so attentive, ears feeling on fire as he does his best to focus on every word spoken to him.
“The main thing I’ve come to understand is you.”
Bruce doesn’t move, scared to make his daughter stop talking to him and so he just does his best to show he’s listening.
Charlotte continues, “I get why you brought all of us in. It wasn’t just to protect us from the world, but from ourselves. I can see now that you are only crazy because you’ve been given the impossible challenge of being a necessity in Gotham and the worlds survival and sanity. It doesn’t change that you’ve made mistakes and fucked up, but I get why now. You didn’t want us to apart of Batman, but we forced you, me most of all.”
Bruce is more than stunned by the honesty and understanding in Charlotte’s words, but the fact that he himself only figured that out after loosing Jason.
She smiles at him like she could read his mind, “It took me a long time and I still have anger towards you, yet I want you in my life all the same.”
A gloved hand comes to hold onto his own, delicate and gentle in a way that reminds him of his mother all those years ago.
Charlottes smiles is far too sad to be hers though, “I’m not the boy you once knew, not just because of the woman I want to be now. I don’t want to help you, to save you and parent you, I want to know you. As my father. If-if you’ll allow it?”
Bruce has cried in public before, several times in fact, but normally it’s to play up his over emotional persona.
This time it’s pure relief.
“Of course. Anything you want, at any pace you want, I- what ever you need.”
Charlotte smiles and squeezes his hand, “Thank you.”
Bruce eventually huffs a laugh and wipes his eyes, “god, you really are good at catching me off guard.”
She laughs, a honey like noise that makes him realises he’s never heard Tim smile and that maybe his daughter could only do that once she be same ‘her’.
The two order drinks and Bruce is given the tale of how Charlotte came to be, of how sometimes she misses being Tim but never wants to go back. He learns that she chose her name based on what she would ah e been if she was born a girl so she wouldn’t feel like she was betraying her parents.
Bruce learns that she is still a hero, operating as Red Robin, but that she focuses on prolonged crimes like trafficking rings and makes sure to take them down in on go instead of busting a few and giving the rest a chance to escape.
He’s not so happy to hear that she isn’t ready to talk to the others and that she only really talks to Cass and Duke as both of them have always been on her side and are truely her siblings.
Yet he respects it, if only to keep her close and show her the love he failed to give.
Respecting his daughter’s privacy, he doesn’t tell his other kids anything about what happened and acts ignorant when there’s a few articles about the mysterious Charlotte Drake and her distant relation to the private Tim Drake.
He meets with his little girl, his Lottie, once a week at The Eclipse and talks with her about their businesses both in the literal sense and more broadly.
He meets Bernard and can’t quite see what it is about the strange boy that makes his daughter so happy, but all he needs is to see her big smile and know it doesn’t matter.
That and the several background checks he did.

Family Reunion
word count: 6.5K
Summary: y/n reluctantly goes to a family reunion that may or may not be a disaster
TW: adoption hate, No y/n used
You were sitting in the living room reading a book when Alfred walked into the manor with the mail. He placed it on the table behind the couch and went into the kitchen to start dinner. Jason came running into the room and jumped on the couch next to you.
“Hey, mom, whatcha doin’,” he asked, laying his head on your shoulder.
“Just reading,” you answered as you turned the page of your book. Jason snuggled closer to you and let out a sigh. You put your book down and looked over at your son.
“What's the matter, J,” you asked, placing your book on the table behind you.
Jason sat up straight and looked at you. He gave you a serious look, which made you worry a little. Jason was one of the least serious of your kids; well, they are all less serious than Damian. “Nothing, just bored,” he said, looking at you with a smile.
“Mom, did the mail come in yet?” Tim yelled, running up from the cave.
“Yes, Alfred just brought it in,” you replied.
Tim ran into the living room and searched through the mail. He was so excited that he dropped the rest of the mail on the floor. Your husband walked in and sat down on the couch between you and Jason.
“Hey honey,” Bruce said, kissing your temple.
“Tim, make sure you pick up your mess,” you said, cuddling into Bruce.
It was moments like these, where Bruce and the boys stayed home that made all the drama of marrying Batman/ Bruce Wayne worth it. Just as Tim came and sat on the chair next to you, Dick and Damian walked in through the front door. Dick walked over to you and kissed your cheek while Damian stood in the living room with a grimace.
“Grayson, just because I asked a question about your job didn’t mean I wanted to spend the day with you,” he exclaimed.
Dick went to throw his keys on the table, but they landed on the floor. When we bent down to grab them, he noticed an envelope under the couch.
“Hey, Mom, there’s mail for you,” he said, handing it over.
Your name was handwritten on a baby blue envelope. Just from the writing, you knew what was in this piece of mail. Your mother was trying to get you to come to a family reunion, but we were not interested. You loved your family, but there were some people you just didn’t want to talk to anymore. “It's nothing.” You said, placing it on the table and opening your book back up to finish the chapter you were reading when Jason interrupted you.
“Nothing, Mother, it looks important. It’s handwritten,” Damian said, opening it up.
Before you could stop him, he started to read the invitation, which you had already gotten about seven times. Bruce looked over at you and gave you a questioning look as your son finished reading the invitation.
“Like I said, it's nothing,” you said, getting up from the couch and grabbing the invitation from Damian.
“Family reunion. That sounds fun, Mom,” Jason said, grabbing the card from your hands.
“Sure, but not when it’s my family that is reuniting,” you replied, grabbing the invite again.
This time, before anyone can grab it from you again, you rip it up and throw it in the waste basket in the living room. You knew you probably should have burned it, but you had hope that your sons and husband knew to leave it alone. You went to your office to do a couple of things for work when you got a call from your mother.
Hey Sweetie
“Hey, mom. What’s up.”
Nothing, I just wanted to talk to my daughter.
“I’m not going mom.”
We miss you
“I miss you too, Mom. You know you and Dad are welcome to come visit whenever you want. The kids miss you.”
Sweetheart, please
“Is she going to be there?”
Yes. She’s a part of this family.
“Then just let me know when you and Dad want to come visit.”
It’s not just me who misses you. It's in two weeks you still have time to change your mind.
“Ugh, Mom, if I say I'll think about it, will you stop sending the invitations?”
Yes, only if you consider it
“Ok, Mom, I will consider going to the reunion.”
Great, well, I’m going to let you go and let you get back to work Tell my grand-babies I love them and tell Bruce I said hi.
“Alright, mom. I love you bye.”
Love you too, baby. Bye
You hung up the phone and looked up when you heard a small knock at your office door. Bruce was standing in the doorway, waiting for you to finish your phone call. He walked over and sat on the edge of your desk.
“Mom says hi,” you said, placing your phone on your desk and walking to stand in front of your husband.
Bruce gave you the face he makes when he wants you to tell him what’s wrong, but he won’t ask.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” you told him, placing your head on his chest.
“I didn’t say anything,” he responded, wrapping his arms around you tightly.
“I would love to see everyone, but every time I’m in the same room with HER, it doesn’t end well. You remember,” you opened up.
The memory of the last time you had a run-in with your sister. It was before you and Bruce adopted Dick. It was also the last family reunion you went to. The night just went downhill as soon as she walked into the house. It ended with her calling you a gold-digging whore and Bruce having to hold you back from attacking her.
“Oh, I remember. You were scary,” he said with a smile as he kissed your head.
“Mom. Scary? Impossible,” Damian said, walking in to check up on you.
You knew that going to the reunion was a terrible idea. No matter how much you would love to be around everyone again. Bruce looked at you, and you knew whatever you decided, he was going to support you no matter what.
“Your mother can be very scary,” he responded to Damian but still looked at you.
“Demon, ask her about the letter,” you heard Jason “whisper” from the hall.
You laughed and shook your head as you stepped out of Bruce’s warm embrace. Damian tried to act like he had no idea what Jason was saying or that he couldn’t hear his brother from the hall, but you knew better. When you walked past him to go to the door, Damian avoided eye contact and acted innocent.
“Why don’t you ask her yourself, Jay,” you said, poking your head out of your office and looking at Jay.
He quickly stood up and caught your other boys off balance, making them either stumble back or fall on the ground. You motioned with your head to come in while you walked back to your office.
“Grandma says hi,” you said, sitting on your desk.
“You talked to grandma,” Dick asked excitingly.
Just seeing Dick’s reaction, you knew that you had to go for your sons. You looked over to your husband, and he knew what you were going to do.
“That letter was from Grandma about a family reunion in two weeks,” you explained. “I didn’t say anything about it sooner because last time I was at a family reunion, it didn’t end well.”
“Your mother almost got into a fight,” Bruce explained further as he took out his phone and rearranged his schedule so he could go with you.
“Mom getting into a fight. I would love to see that,” Jay said, sitting in one of the chairs in front of your desk and putting his feet on your desk.
“You might jay bird,” you whispered.
“So, are we going,” Tim asked.
After taking a deep breath to calm your already anxious mind, you told them yes. You grabbed your phone to call your mother to tell her that you will be attending, so Bruce and the boys left your office. Your mother was super happy that you would be going home. She told you how she wasn’t going to tell anyone, so it would be a big surprise. After you hung up, you were heading back to spend time with your family when you overheard Bruce and the kids talking.
“I can’t imagine mom getting in a fight,” Dick stated.
“You haven’t seen your mother with her sister,” Bruce responded, taking a sip of his drink.
“Aunt Lilah?” Tim asked.
“No, Sophia.”
“She has another sister,” Jason exclaimed.
You walked into the living room, and the boys stopped asking questions because they didn’t want to make you uncomfortable or angry. You sat down next to your husband and Jason and put on a movie.
The next two weeks consisted of your mother texting you how excited she was to have you, Bruce, and the kids back home. You also spent those two weeks learning some kind of calming technique Alfred knew in hopes it would help you not go crazy. The night before you left to head back to your hometown, the boys kept talking about how they were excited to see where you grew up and hopefully learn some embarrassing stories about you.
In the morning, you woke up before Bruce and just watched the love of your life sleep. You trace your name over his chest when you hear a small laugh escape your husband’s throat. Your hands stopped as your eyes met his blue eyes. He grabbed your hand, brought it to his mouth, and placed a small is on the palm.
“You don’t have to mark me. I'm already your’s,” Bruce said, pulling you onto him.
“Shut it,” you smacked him.
The two of you just lay there til Alfred knocked on the door and came in with two cups of coffee and the newspaper. He placed the try on Bruce’s nightstand and opened the curtains before leaving. Bruce handed you your cup, and you just wrapped your hands around the mug, absorbing its warmth. A light kiss on your right shoulder brought you back to reality.
“Penny for your thought,” Bruce asked, leaving more kisses on your naked shoulders.
“Wow, only a penny. When did you get so cheap,” you joked, placing your coffee on your nightstand and turning towards your husband.
He let out a chuckle, pushing you on your back, and hovered over you. “When my wife got so expensive,” he joked, leaving love bites on your neck and collarbone. You slapped his chest at his comment. “I hate you,” you said, pulling him on top of you so you’re being crushed by his weight.
“Sure you do.” Bruce pried himself from your grasp to get ready for the flight. “As much as I would enjoy you staying like that for the trip, it might traumatize the kids,” he joked, staring at your naked form still lying in bed.
“Or we can just forget the reunion and abandon our kids and just go on another honeymoon,” you suggested as you got out of bed and joined Bruce in the bathroom.
“They would find us,” he replied after giving your idea a moment's thought.
“And whose fault it is that they are great detectives,” you asked, getting into the shower.
While you and Bruce were taking a shower, Alfred was in the room packing your bags for the trip. Since the boys haven’t seen your parents in a long time, you decided to spend a week at home. The boys were excited to get to spend so much time with their grandparents.
“Your flight is scheduled to leave in an hour, so I suggest you two hurry up,” Alfred yelled as he left the room.
“Last time I checked, it's my plane,” Bruce called back as he was helping you dry off.
“The sooner you leave, the sooner I can find some actual peace,” Alfred replied, causing you to laugh.
The boys were waiting in the living room with all their bags when you and Bruce finally got dressed. You saw how excited they were for the reunion, and you understood. You come from a giant and mainly loving family. They’ve heard a few stories from your childhood, and you noticed how there was a longing look in their eyes. So, you decided to push past all the drama and try your best to make this the best weekend for your kids. You want them to have a happy, normal family experience.
“You guys ready to head out,” you asked, interrupting their conversations.
They all jumped up, grabbed their bags, and ran to the car. You laughed at their antics as you followed them out. During the car ride to the airport, the boys were planning all the things they wanted to do during the week. Bruce pulled you against his side as you watched the kids.
“I brought some of the jokers laughing gas if you need it,” Bruce whispered into your ear.
“I'm gonna need it later, I’m fine now,” you laughed.
“We can just drop the boys off and go do something just us,” he suggested, kissing the top of your head.
“No,” you exclaimed, jumping up and turning to him.
Bruce looked at you with concern and questioning. “What’s wrong,” he asked.
“We are all going as a family,” you replied, ignoring his question.
“Mom,” Dick asked.
“It's nothing, ok. I promise,” you replied, rubbing his back.
As soon as you got on the plane, your outburst was forgotten by all except Bruce. As soon as the pilot said we were free to roam the plane, Bruce unbuckled your seat belt and pulled you into his lap.
“B, the kids are right there,” you lightly scorned as you tried to get out of his lap.
“As much as I would like to. I’d much rather talk about your outburst in the car.”
“I don’t want them alone around Sophia,” you told him.
Before he could ask why, you pulled out your phone to show him the family bulletin email chain. You showed him the edition where Sophia announced the birth of her son, Aaron. And her reply to why the title was a new addition to the grandkids instead of the first grandchild.
“She constantly refuses to acknowledge the boys as family. Because they are not blood, they don’t count,” you explained.
“Sounds like Damien when he first came to us,” he joked, pulling you closer to him.
“Yeah, but Damien matured and realized he was wrong. She never has. I’m worried she’s going to open her mouth and ruin their trip,”
“They’ve heard all that before, especially when the world wants to know if/when we are going to have a baby. But they know the truth.”
“But that’s coming from strangers. This would be from family.”
“Does anyone else think that way?”
“No.”
“Then there should be nothing to worry about,” You relaxed in his arms and rested your head on his shoulder. “But if something does happen, I’ll release the laughing gas, and we can book it out of there.”
You let out a loud laugh, causing everyone to look at you. Bruce buried his face in your neck and just enjoyed the sound of your laughter. He only pulled away when Damien came over and glared at you.
“Ummi, father, please, do not join the mile-high club while we are right here,” he said with a deadpan look on his face before going back to the video game he was playing with Jason.
“Oh my god,” you said, trying not to laugh as you looked at your husband.
“Damien, really,” he asked, turning to look at his youngest.
“That’s your kid,” you said, getting back into your seat.
“Mine,” he laughed, quickly checking his phone.
You nodded your head as you took a sip of your drink. The rest of the flight, Bruce did as much work as he could finish before the plane landed, and you read more of your book. When the plane landed, instead of a town car, your mother was standing by her minivan, jumping up and down.
“She insisted on picking us up,” Bruce explained, helping you down the stairs.
“Jida,” Damien yelled, jumping over the railing and running over to your mother. Your heart melted at the sight of Damien jumping into your mother’s arms. She spun him around and then put him back on the ground. As soon as she took a step back, Jason wrapped his arms around her and lifted her off the ground.
“Oh my, baby, what are you feeding this one,” your mother laughed, hugging Jason back.
“Jay, put Granny down before you hurt her,” Tim warned as he started putting the bags in the trunk of the minivan.
Bruce helped Tim while you tried to greet your mother. Before you could get your hug, Dick stepped between you and stole your hug. “Oh my, look how tall you’ve gotten. Your being safe,” she asked, pushing him back slightly as she looked over him.
“Yes, Granny, I'm being very careful at work,” he said, pulling her into another hug and kissing her cheek.
Once he released her, you finally got your hug. “That one worries me all the time,” she whispered in your ear.
“Me too, but I get texts after his shifts, so I know he is safe.”
“I need those too,” she said, looking at Dick and Jason as they smacked each other on the back of the head.
“Oh, my favorite son-in-law,” your mother said as she pushed you aside to hug Bruce.
“Hey, ma,” he said, kissing her cheeks. “You look amazing.”
“You’re already my favorite, no need to suck up,” she joked, slapping his arm.
Your mother loved Bruce. As soon as you told her you were dating, she warned you to be careful cause of his reputation. But after she met him, she would always say, ‘Don’t do anything stupid to mess that up. I’ll choose him in the breakup.’ Sometimes, she’d just randomly call Bruce, and they would chat for a couple of hours.
Once all the bags were in the car, Bruce insisted he drive so your mother could relax and catch up with the boys. You sat in the passenger seat so your mother could sit between Tim and Damien.
While Bruce was driving, he kept one hand on the wheel and the other was holding your hand. You just watched him drive as you listened to the lively conversation in the back of the car.
“Never thought I’d see THE Bruce Wayne drive a minivan,” you joked, drawing circles on his hand. “I should send Clark a pic so he has an exclusive.”
Bruce squeezed your hand in response. “Don’t make me tell Ma that you’re being mean to me.”
Even though he whispered it, your mother still heard, and she slapped your arm. “Leave my baby alone,” she scorned, gently shaking his shoulder, then she returned to Tim’s story.
You quickly stuck your tongue out at Bruce, then quickly made sure your mother didn’t notice. When Tim finished his story, your mother leaned forward and told you how the rooms were made so you could stay with her.
“Mom, there is not enough room for all of us.”
“Please, unless you had planned on wasting money on five different hotel rooms, I have enough room. The boys will double up,” she said, playing with Damien’s hair.
“What about everyone else.”
“I kicked them out. Told them they couldn’t stay the night. Besides, unlike you, everyone else lives close by.”
Deciding against arguing with your mother, you accepted that you were staying at home. When Bruce pulled into the driveway, your father was mowing the lawn. As soon as everyone got out of the car, Dick and Jason went over to your father to mow the lawn for him.
“They don’t do that at home,” You commented, watching Dick push Jason to the ground and start up the lawn mower.
“Our lawn is too big for a normal lawn mower,” Tim said, getting the bags out of the car.
“Ah yes, the plight of the rich,” you joked, ruffling Tim’s hair.
Your mother carried in your small bag and carried it up to your room. Then, she showed Tim and Damien the guest room and Lilah’s room that she made up for them. Tim refused to share a room with Damien, so they went their separate ways.
“You guys freshen up, and I’ll start dinner,” your mother said, leaving you in your room.
“Absolutely not. You set everything up for tomorrow. I'm taking us all out for dinner. You just relax. And make sure to utilize the 12 hands you have to help with tomorrow,” Bruce said, holding her hands.
“You’re too sweet,” she replied, gently patting his cheek.
“He’s right, Mom. Why is no one here to help.”
“I didn’t ask Lilah 'cause she’s got her hands full with the kids and with Henry being deployed. I asked Sophia, but she said she couldn’t. But now I can put those boys to work. You baby them too much,” she replied, ignoring your look of disappointment.
“Mom, you are the one that spoils them,” you joke.
“They are my grandbabies it's my job. Now, why don’t you two hurry up and unpack? I'm ready to eat you out of house and home,” she joked, walking down the hall.
“If those boys couldn’t do that, I doubt you could,” Bruce joked back.
After dinner and a lot of butt-kissing done by the kids, you and Bruce got ready for bed. You were doing your nighttime routine when Bruce came up behind you and wrapped his arms around you. Bruce took the moisturizer out of your hands and, just held you and stared at you in the mirror.
“I can feel your tension,” he said, kissing your neck.
“I'm worried about tomorrow,” you admit.
“I’ll fake a work emergency if you want.”
“Won’t be as effective since we are staying here.”
He chuckled and placed another kiss on your neck before telling you to hurry up and come to bed. Your mother never changed a single thing in your room, so it looks exactly like it did when you left for college. Same embarrassing posters. Same stuffed animals. Same book. Same twin-sized bed you were supposed to share with your gigantic husband.
There wasn’t a single inch of room for you to lay next to him. Not that it mattered at home you have a California king yet seem to still sleep on top of each other overnight. You were going to lay on top of Bruce, but he moved, so he was on top. His head was on your chest, and your legs were tangled together. Even though you knew his feet were hanging off the edge, he quickly fell asleep. You, on the other hand, stayed up longer, running your finger through his hair, praying to anything and everything that nothing terrible happens tomorrow.
“Let her sleep some more,” you heard someone whisper before the door closed.
Since you didn’t feel the 200-pound man on top of you, you figured that Bruce already started his day. You knew you should get up and help, but unlike the rest of your family, you are not accustomed to minimal sleep. But your plan to get more sleep was thwarted by a tiny body getting into the bed and jumping on your stomach.
“Tete, wake up,” your niece yelled, trying to force your eyes open.
“Robin,” you heard your husband whisper and pick the little girl off you.
“It's morning time. Tete needs to wake up Ruce,” she said with her adorable lisp.
“Tete is very tired.”
“But it's morning.”
“I'll give you candy if you let her sleep more.”
“5 dowars AND candy,” she said with as stern of a voice as a four-year-old can have.
“You’re just like your aunt,” Bruce said before carrying the little girl out.
Another 5 minutes passed by before you heard the door open. Someone walked in and sat at the foot of the bed. “I know you're awake, dummy,” your sister Lilah said, slapping your feet.
“First, your kid jumps on my stomach, then you slap me. Your violence is spreading,” you joke, sitting up to hug your sister. “I didn’t know you’d be here this early.”
“Yeah, I figured mom was super busy and forgot to call me, but imagine my surprise when I find out the prodigal daughter returned.”
Lilah handed you a cup of coffee and climbed into bed next to you. It felt like the old days when you two would sit in your bed and talk about anything and everything.
“You know I’m surprised you showed up,” she said, gently nudging your side.
“Me too, but the kids missed Mom, and I can’t just keep hiding,” you admitted.
“How’s Henry,” you asked, changing the subject before she was mentioned.
“He’s good. Safe. And excited to hear what happens.” She laughs.
Robin opened the door and ran into the room laughing. Your husband came in after her and lifted her off the ground.
“You promised,” he said, holding her upside down.
“It's been hours.”
“It's been 7 minutes,” he said, turning her rightsize up. “Oh, morning, sweetie.” He walked over to kiss you while holding a wiggly child.
“Tete, you sleep forever,” she said, slipping from Bruce’s grasp and getting between you and Lilah.
You handed your cup to Bruce and attacked Robin with tickles. Robin laughed and cried out for her mom to save her, but Lilah watched and said she should have listened and let Tete sleep.
“Ruce, save me,” she laughed.
“I got you, princess,” he said, pulling her from my grasp. “Come one, let's go help with breakfast.”
Before he left, Bruce looked at you and blew you a kiss. You heard your sister laugh and gently kick you. Lilah caught you up on her life and what Robin has been doing and showed you pictures of baby James, who was snatched from her by your mother as soon as she stepped inside.
You wanted to stay in bed longer, but the smell of cinnamon rolls filled the house. You and Lilah looked at each other before racing each other down to the kitchen.
“Morning, sleeping beauty,” your father greeted, looking up from baby James.
“Morning, Dad,” you said, kissing his cheek and then making faces at James.
You took a seat at the dining table, and Robin came to bring you a cinnamon roll drenched in icing. “I made this one for you, Tete.”
The roll had so much icing that when you bit into it, you could’ve sworn that you got a cavity. Your mother came out of the kitchen and plopped down in the chair across from you. She looked exhausted.
“All the food is prepped we just need to throw it in the oven,” she said, picking at a cinnamon roll.
“Mom, did you wake the kids to help you,” you asked, slightly scorning her.
“They need their sleep they are growing boys,” she said.
Before you could scorn her some more, she got up and said she was going to take a nap. Your father came over to you and handed you the baby, and dragged your husband outside to help set up the tables and chairs.
After everything was set up and you put a couple of dishes in the oven, you brought James to the floor and played with his toys with him. Your kids sat on the couch watching TV while you got up with James every couple of minutes to switch out the dishes.
“How do you do that,” Dick asked, helping you put a dish in the oven.
“I’m a mom. It’s a mom superpower,” she said, closing the oven with her hip and starting the timer.
“I can take him to make it easier,” he offered, holding his arms out.
“Im fine, Dick. Besides, Im soaking up all the baby time I can get,” you said, blowing raspberries on James’ arm.
At noon, people started showing up. First, it was your aunt and uncles, then your cousins. The next thing you knew, the house and backyard were filled with family members.
“Im going to try and put him down for a quick nap,” Lilah said, taking James from your arms.
“Okay. You can use my room. I think Damien and Jay are in your old room.”
You tried to find your husband but were suddenly being hugged by someone. “I can’t believe you’re here,” your favorite cousin said, hugging you.
You turned to face them and gave them a proper hug. They dragged you outside and grabbed a drink. Just chatting with your cousin lifted your spirits, but then you heard Sophia’s voice and could have sworn there was the noise of a record scratch, then she stepped into the backyard.
Aaron stepped from behind her, and his face lit up when he saw Dick entertaining the kids with his acrobatic skills. He ran to Dick, and luckily your son was done his flips when Aaron latched himself to his left leg.
“Hey, nugget,” Dick said, picking Aaron up and tossing him up in the air.
Just as Sophia came up to you, Bruce appeared by your side and kissed your temple. Sophia looked between the two of you and smiled. “Oh, you two are so cute. Im so glad it worked out so far,” she said, hugging you.
Bruce wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you to him. “She can’t get rid of me.” He gave you another kiss on the temple before hugging Sophia.
“How have you been,” he asked since you couldn’t open your mouth without saying something mean.
“Amazing, it’s hard with three kids under ten, but it’s so adorable watching them grow up,” she said with a condescending smile.
“Sophia,” you heard her husband call as he came up behind her with a look of apology. “I was getting the kids out of the car, and you just disappeared.”
“I heard my sister was here I just had to come see her. I haven’t seen her in years,” she pouted. “How are the kids,” she asked, glancing over your shoulder.
“My kids are great. They are over there with all the other kids,” you said, turning to wave at Damien.
“Oh right, that’s Bruce’s son. I read about that in the news. So glad you two worked through that issue.”
“Damien is my son, too. And that’s none of your business,” you said, flexing your hand.
“Ummi, I'm hungry,” Damien said with a fake smile, trying to act like a normal 10-year-old.
“Ummi,” your sister questioned.
“It's Arabic for mother,” you said, grabbing Damien’s hand and bringing him inside to get him food. As soon as you got inside, you let his hand go and turned to him. “Which one put you up to that,” you asked, hugging him.
“Father, he gave us signals so we could be a buffer. But I don’t understand why I had to act like an idiotic fool,” he scowled as he crossed his arms.
“I love you,” you said, ruffling his hair.
“I love you too, Ummi,” he said, grabbing a plate and grabbing his food.
With that freedom, you decided to walk around and converse with anyone else. You were talking with weird Uncle Bert when Sophia found you again. Everyone in the room got quiet and just watched the two of you.
“I’m so proud of you, little sis,” she said, rubbing my arm.
“Whatever for Soph,” you asked, slowly turning to her.
“For putting on a brave face with Bruce’s affair and accepting the consequence with open arms,” she said with a genuine smile like nothing she just said was wrong.
“Excuse me,” you exclaimed. “First off, that consequence is my son, and I’ve already told you to mind your own business in the matter.”
“Sorry, I guess you’re still sensitive about it. I thought you and Bruce were in a good place.”
“We are,” you replied, confused about where she was taking this.
“Oh good, so when are you finally going to have a kid,” she asked giddily.
“I have four kids. But I’m not sure when we are going to have a baby,” you replied through your teeth.
“Yes, of course you have ‘kids,’ but like an actual kid. You're the only one without one,’ she said, playing with a string on her sweater like she didn’t just insult you.
“Why the air quotes, Sophia,” you asked, clenching your fist.
“Cause they're not your kids. You didn’t give birth to them. They are not your blood. So they don’t count.
Outside, Bruce was looking around for you when he saw Sophia’s husband looking around, too. “Scott, where’s your wife,” he asked with a small bit of panic in his voice.
“Hopefully not by your wife saying something very stupid.”
“Excuse me,” they heard you yell.
“I think I found them,” Scott groaned, rubbing his face in annoyance.
“Boys code red,” Bruce shouted before going inside.
When he got to where you were, your face was red and cracking your knuckles. He could tell you were pissed.
“What the hell do you mean they don’t count,” you asked, fuming.
“Look, if it means that much to you, I'll let them get into the family photo,” Sophia said, holding her hands up.
“Oh, thank you so much for letting my kids join my family photo,” you said sarcastically.
“You know how much mom loves her grandkids I just hope she gets some from you.”
“She has 4. Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damien.”
“Real grandchildren.”
“Ok, that’s it. Just because they are not my blood and I didn’t give birth to those boys doesn’t mean they are not my kids. I love them with every ounce of my being. I came to this for them cause they missed Mom, but you came and opened your mouth, spouting ignorant shit once again. And if Bruce and I have a baby, I'm not going to love those boys any less. Cause I chose to love those boys, and they chose to have me as their mother, and nothing could top the feeling of hearing them call me mom for the first time. Now, please, for once, keep those thoughts to yourself. No one cares about your Etsy shop or how you're trying to start a media business.”
“I was being nice before, but since you want to be a bitch I can too. That little one is a freaking psychopath, and I don’t want him around my kids. The oldest is a terrible influence cause now Aaron wants to join a circus. The other one, Jason, is even worse. What kind of kid fakes his death at 13 years old? Guess you're not that great of a “mother.” I mean, look at his scars, and he’s probably on drugs. The only one I feel sorry for is Tim. He looks so sleep-deprived I'm not sure what you’re doing to that poor kid, but CPS needs to take him and the psycho away from you,”
Before you could attack her for threatening to take your kids away, you heard Damien yell out in pain. You pushed through the crowd that formed and went to him.
“What’s wrong, dami,” you asked him.
“I hurt myself outside,” he said with a tear falling down his cheek.
You saw your mom staying in the kitchen and told her you were taking Dami to the hospital and weren’t coming back til Sophia was gone. When you stepped outside, you watched as Damien popped his shoulder back in place.
“Damn, mom. I'm a bit scared of you now,” Jason said, scratching his head.
“Good. Not stop using Damien and a buffer, and don’t dislocate his shoulder again to do it.” You said, making sure Damien was okay.
“Yeah, I could have faked it.”
“Are you okay,” Bruce asked, hugging you.
“No, I hate her so much,” you said before turning to your boys. “I'm sorry about that. I hope you don’t take what she said to heart.”
“I mean, the demon is a psychopath,” Jason joked, earning him a kick in the shins from Dick. “No, mom. We’ve heard that kind of stuff before it doesn’t bother us cause you are our mom.”
You were hugging all your kids when the front door opened, and Sophia stormed out angry, and Henry followed with their three kids. Sophia sat in the passenger seat while Henry put the kids in the car.
“I'm so sorry,” Henry said, coming over to say goodbye. “It was nice seeing you two again, and nice meeting your kids.”
“His wife is nuts, but he seems like a cool guy,” Tim said as the car pulled out of the driveway.
Your mom came out of the house and saw that you guys were still here. “Is he okay,” she asked, looking over Damien.
“Yeah, he just dislocated his shoulder. We popped it back in. Is Jen still in there so she can give him a quick look over,” you asked.
Your mother nodded and went to grab your cousin, the pediatric doctor. “Mother, I'm fine. I’ve done that hundreds of times,”
“I know, but I would still like a medical professional to check it out since your brother actually hurt you,” you said, glaring at Jason.
“I was trying to stop a fight.”
Jenny came out and checked Damien’s arm. She said it seemed perfectly fine, but she would prefer to have it x-rayed to double-check, but for now, an ice compress at the joint will do.
“Come on, boys, I’ve got to show you your mother's baby pictures. Have I ever told you about the time she went missing from home and we found her 3 hours later in the fireplace,” she called from the entryway.
“Oh no,” you groaned, covering your face.
“No,” Jason laughed as he ran inside to gather some leverage for the next time he was in trouble.
“Fireplace,” Bruce asked, laughing.
“You might as well go listen to see what you're getting yourself into if we have a baby,” you said, pulling him inside.
“Why does a mini-you terrify me more than my night job.”
“Cause I was terrible growing up.”
“Was,” he asked, pulling your back towards him.
“Listen here, Mr. Wayne,” you started to scorn before he pressed his lips to yours.
“Oh my god Mom you started a fire at 3,” Dick laughed.
“It was an accident.”
“Yeah, I'm terrified for our future children.”
“Of baby. You should be terrified of our future children,” you said right before Damien yelled about how you told a police officer your mother kidnapped you cause she wouldn’t get you a toy.
Bruce laughed and shook his head as the two of you walked into the house.

[IN THE CAR] Tim: I don't see Dami anywhere. Dick: Keep looking. Jason's friends said he went this way. Bruce: And how were those punks your friends? Whatever happened to Roy? Jason: We… had a fallout. Bruce: Honey, I'm sorry. Why didn't you tell me? Jason: Jesus Christ, I screamed it into your face about ten fucking times! But no one ever pays attention in this family. [silence] Bruce: Do you kids really think I don't-- Radio: A helicopter has crash-landed in a storm culvert. According to police, a young boy is trapped in the water of the culvert at the corner of 139th Street. Dick: That has to be Damian. [They arrive at the place, full of firefighters, police people, reporters and some civilians]. Bruce: That's my son down there. [Grabs the megaphone from the fire chief]: Damian, we're here, baby! Daddy's gonna save you! Damian: … Go to hell! Bruce: What the fuck did you just say to me?! Damian: I'm mad at you! You don't care about me. You never cared about me! There's always something more important for you to pay attention to. I only exist so you can yell at me and ben--ground me. And when I needed you today, you told me, "Not now." Well how about now, Father? Bruce: Oh… He's absolutely right… [Through the megaphone]: Son… I'm--I'm sorry. I have been a terrible father lately. Dick [Takes the megaphone]: Your father is very sorry, Dami. Damian: And I'm mad at you too, Richard! Dick: At me!? What did I do!? Damian: You spent all your time with that stupid scissor-spoon that I cut my fingers on! Dick: It was called the Forkoontula, and it's still in the development stages, but you're right. I guess I have been ignoring you a lot lately, too. I'm sorry. Bruce [Takes the megaphone]: But that's over, sweetheart. I'm very sorry. I told myself I'd be a better father than my own dad, and that starts now. You kids mean-- You mean a lot to me. I love you. All of you. Just please come on home. We'll talk about it. Damian: …Can we go see horses then? Dick: Of course! All the horses you want! Bruce: For God's sake, Dick, just get him a fucking Lego farm! Dick: Bruce!! Bruce: Okay! Sure. We can look for horses. But no further promises than just go and look. Damian: Nice! Bruce: I don't want anything larger than a pony. Dick: We'll have to build a stupid stable, and you know it…

Villain - Chapter 4: What the Hell is Wrong With Bruce?
Summary:
Tim and Dick find out about Jason being in Arkham.
TW: Death, Violence, Flashbacks, Blood, and Swearing. lemme know if I missed anything!
Chapter links: Ch. 1, Ch. 2, Ch.3, Ch. 4, Ch. 5, Ch.6
POV of Tim Drake. Time: about 3 pm, after lunch.
Come on, pick up pick up pick UP!!!! My brain urges as I try to call Dick, careful to use a comm I’m definitey sure Bruce wouldn’t be able to listen in on.
He finally picks up after nearly 15 rings. Good. If I had to hear that ringtone once more I’d smash my phone against the wall.
“Hey, Timbo!” He greets me cheerfully. “What’s up?”
“Where are you right now?” I ask, wasting no time on formalities.
“Um, Bludhaven, why—”
“Good, you’d get here in about two hours, then, if you maybe skip lunch you’d be here half an hour earlier. Good, do that. And—”
“Hey, hey!” Dick interrupts me worriedly. “Timmy, you okay? What happened? What— Did something go wrong? Did someone attack something important?”
I take a deep breath, unsure how to break this to him. “Dick,” I start, “It’s Jason.”
I swear, Dick’s voice goes up by three octaves. If this situation weren’t so dire, I’d have recorded it to use for blackmail. “Oh my god is he okay? Is he hurt? Is he—”
“He somehow got locked up in Arkham.” There. That wasn’t so hard to say.
The silence is deafening. Then Dick screams, “WHAT? HOW—”
“I don’t know, all I know is, he’s in the cell right in front of the Joker. I can see his tracker on the map in front of me right now, and he got checked in as ‘mentally unstable’ at about 2 AM today.”
“When you were with the Titans and I was in Central,” Dick muses.
"And… there’s realistically only one person in Gotham who could capture Jason and take him to Arkham.”
Dick curses with the most colourful words I’ve ever heard. “Tim, just— just stay there, okay? And don’t talk to Bruce until we know what actually happened, we don’t want to wrongly accuse anyone of anything. I’ll get there as soon as I can.”
I lean back in my chair and take a long sip of coffee, letting the caffeine energise me. Why would Bruce do this? Jason was supposed to be on our side now… Unless something happened that I don’t know about…
I quickly swipe my fingers across the keyboard on my computer, accessing Cowl footage. I look through the folders, arranged by date, and click on the one from early morning today.
Access denied.
I stare at the words on my screen, puzzled. Just to check, I try opening footage from a few other days. I can access that. It’s just this one footage that’s encrypted…
Why would he lock the footage from one specific night?
Something’s up. I need to get my hands on that footage, somehow or the other. I’m about to start writing a code to hack it when suddenly, a whooshing sound behind me draws my attention.
I turn around to see a redhead— Wally— run into my room with my brother in his arms. Wally gently places Dick on my bed, and Dick thanks him. Wally replies with an “Anytime, sweetheart!”, waves to me, and runs off again. I raise my eyebrows questioningly at Dick.
“What?” He shrugs. “He was in my room already, and offered to help.”
I narrow my eyes. “And what exactly was Wally West doing in your room?”
“I— Wh— It doesn’t matter, okay?” Dick turns away to hide his blush. “That’s not what I’m here for. What’s up with Jay being in Arkham? How the hell did that even happen?”
“I’m not sure,” I take another sip of coffee. “All I know is, something definitely happened between him and B. Something bad enough that he encrypted all the footage of it so we wouldn’t see it.”
Dick’s wearing a pained expression. “But why would he do that? Jay was finally starting to come back to us, and now— Bruce knows perfectly well what being locked up near the Joker will do to him! This— This is madness, Timmy! What the hell is wrong with Bruce?”
I stay silent. I don’t really have much to say about this, Dick’s already spoken my thoughts.
“We need to get him out of there, Tim.” He locks eyes with me.
“Whoa, I just need you to think rationally for a second, okay?” I start, “We don’t even know what happened, and Bruce wouldn’t just do something for no reason! He loves Jason, we need to find out why he did this, we need to—”
“To hell with Bruce!” Dick suddenly yells. “This is our brother we’re talking about, we shouldn’t care what happened, just that being in Arkham isn’t possibly good for him!”
He takes a deep breath before speaking again, now in a softer tone. “I’m sorry for shouting at you. It’s just, you don’t know Bruce as well as I do, you’ve only seen the good sides of him, and I know you want to believe he’ll never do anything wrong, but I’ve seen him be a cruel monster before. I— I want to believe he’s better now, but…”
I look away. Why did I say that? Learn some fucking emotional intelligence, Tim.
“Hey, look, what about this?” Dick lightly grabs my hand. “We do both. I’ll work with some friends to get him out of there, and you work with Babs to decrypt the files and find out what happened, okay?”
I smile. “Yeah, okay.”
I won’t let you down, Jason, I think as I start compiling a file of all the evidence we currently had to send to Oracle. I’ll find out what happened.

IT'S TIME FOR MY FAVORITE PART OF ALPOD LET'S GOOOO
HE! IS! SO! FUCKIN! LITTLE!
This panel says so much about Tim, I'm not even sure what to say, it speaks for itself. Symbols are so very important to him, to the point where I'd call him idealistic for it. Jason died, yes, and it was a tragedy. He was hurt by it, even without knowing Jason personally. But what matters to him is that Robin died.
He doesn't have that familial connection to him that the other three did. Jason wasn't his son, brother, or grandson, Jason was a hero. And Tim is a bystander, a citizen of Gotham. He doesn't even live in Gotham proper, he lives at a boarding school just outside of it. The way an out of control Batman affects crime in Gotham, won't even affect him but he can't bring himself to stay out of it. He has no personal stake here beyond a parasocial relationship.
Also these queens conspiring
HE SAID IT! HE SAID THE LINE!
This comes off a little callous, because Tim's number one skill is the incredible ability to insert his foot DIRECTLY into his mouth. But it also does start to paint a bit of a concerning picture for Tim's self-esteem. He knows he's using himself as cannon fodder, but the mission and the symbol of Robin matter more than he does. He's so much like Bruce
CONSPIRING QUEENS!!!!!
Savor it while you can, Bruce, this is the least disobedient you'll ever see him again
THE BATMOBILE'S HOOD LOOKS LIKE HIS COWL, THAT'S ADORABLE. I'm sure it's just the shading but it's so cute
I just want to hug him tight and swing him around like a ragdoll, he's so precious
Not even 5 seconds lmao. Also, Dick, why you running like that? This is why you're not beating the himbo allegations
It is giving me SO MUCH ANXIETY how fast and loose they're playing with the real names this issue
It's really cool seeing how he already thinks and acts like a Robin, he fits the role so perfectly
sweet potato pie <3
He's such a worried dad <3
Awww Batman let him tie up Two Face himself. Also, Dick, put your titties away man
God he's so cute, look at my little buddy having so much fun
It's wild that TIM is pushing the least here, especially when Tim was the only one to not lose Jason personally. I chalk this up, again, to how desperate Alfred and Dick are not to lose Bruce
And thus something beautiful was born
It's wild seeing how different Tim becomes in not very much time. It's almost hard to believe that mister "I lie to Batman", the broody sarcastic menace, was introduced as such a mild mannered polite sweetheart
The poor boy has no idea that everything in his life is going to go horribly wrong very very soon
Aaaaand I just realized this is all on the main blog but oh well, I'm not redoing it
Batman #442 (My thoughts)
Alfred has known him for ONE NIGHT and he already gets Master Timothy status. It's unreal how fast he got endeared to this little shit. Alfred and Tim's relationship is so underrated and I will never stop saying it! In a way, Alfred mentored him before Dick or even Bruce did. Alfred has such an important role in teaching him how to be a support for Batman, and accepting how dangerous what they do is as someone on the sidelines
Alfred is so strong, he really doesn't get enough credit for how hard being Batman's guy in the chair, emotional support, nurse, and father is. He could lose his son every single night and he just has to sit at home and hope for the best
Right of the bat (hehe) Tim has SO much respect and appreciation for Alfred and it's really nice to see.
Hey look, it's the profile thumbnail!
It's like Tim can't physically restrain himself from jumping in to help when he sees a problem. He's so worried
This is where we get into one of my biggest gripes with fanon, the "tim forced batman to make him robin" thing, and also a bit of the "bruce was irresponsible and chose to endanger a random civilian child" thing, although the 'are robins child soldiers?' discourse is too heavy for me to get into.
The biggest problem I have with it is when Dick and especially Alfred are portrayed as being against the decision and forced to accept it by Bruce
As with a lot of fanon, it's rooted in canon and then horribly exaggerated. Tim talks Alfred into taking him to save Bruce and Dick, despite multiple attempts to talk him down both in the cave and in the car. Tim followed Dick all the way to Haley's circus to try and talk him into being Robin, if Alfred didn't drive him the little shit absolutely would've found his way to the fight anyways the second the man turned his back. He's extremely stubborn. And, as established in earlier installments, Batman has been reckless to the point where it is VERY likely he'd die out of his own lack of self-regard any day. I really can't blame Alfred for having a moment of weakness here. Bruce means more to him than anything in the world and Alfred can see that in Tim.
This is also where we get into the "did Tim stalk the bats and take pictures of them regularly?" fanon discourse. I definitely don't think there's canon support that he was following them every night on patrol as an extremely young child (he didn't even figure out their identities until he was 9. I've seen writers make him as young as FOUR trying to follow them and as a big sister to a 4 year old, y'all are insane) That being said, I think his use of the word "followed" could be interpreted in a few ways. It would be a perfectly valid interpretation that he means 'followed' in the way one follows the news, as in keeping track of. However, he does have A LOT of pictures of Batman and Robin and, in my opinion, a lot of them don't look like newspaper clippings. Plus Batman and Robin are rarely caught on film, I don't think the newspapers would catch them often enough for Tim to build a collection that big.
Tim also knows when Titans meetings are, where Dick's apartment with kori is and the fact that they're together as well as knowing what angle to peep through the window at and where to view both the tower and that apartment stealthily. He knows where Dick's New York apartment is, he knows how to get in, he knows how to get into Dick's safe.
He DID manage to follow Batman to that fight on the dam and photograph it.
I think that's too much evidence to completely dismiss the idea that he's followed them before
And here's the real kicker about the 'Tim forced them' thing. TIM DID NOT GO IN WANTING TO BE ROBIN! TIM SEES THIS AS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO BATMAN'S SELF-DESTRUCTIVE VIOLENT SPIRAL!
Tim is selfish. He is stubborn. He's reckless. He wants to help no matter the risk. He sees a problem that affects him deeply out of a VERY parasocial relationship and demands to be able to fix it no matter what anyone else has to say about the matter. And he's a 13 year old boy with a heart too big for his chest. Tim was made to be robin
(coming back for part two after work. we're still only on page seven and I have MUCH more to say)

What Is A Mother, But The Woman Who Loves Us Most?
A Batmom x Batfamily One-Shot
Word Count: 3.3K Warnings: Angst
Author's Note: I know there is a story like this already (by a different author) but I should preface that this is a story that I posted a year or so before but deleted my previous blog last year, so it's not going to seem like it. I haven't copied any ideas, this is my own that I posted a year or so ago, and re-posting again now. -Thorne
You are not my mother!
The loathing words came out of his mouth before he could stop them, and he watched the cave go deathly quiet around him. Everyone's eyes were wide, even hers, but a millisecond later, they set in a hard stare as she stood straight, her jaw tightening.
She nodded, staring at him. "You're right Damian. I'm not Talia al Ghul. I'm not your mother. But I will tell you what I am." She raised her left hand, flashing the silver wedding ring on her finger. "I'm your father's wife. And what I tell you to do in this manor is what I expect from you."
He shook his head in anger, glaring at her. "This is my father's manor!"
"No Damian, this is the Wayne Manor. And I've been, to use a rather weathered term, the lady of the house for almost fifteen years. Long before you were even a thought in Talia's mind." He stopped and she crossed her arms. "I may not be your mother, but you are a child and your father and I are the adults. When you turn eighteen, you can make all the decisions you want. Until then, what we say goes."
His lips drew in a taut line and she added, "I've already talked about it to Bruce. You're not allowed on patrol after what happened at the gala. If you want to complain to him about it, he's going to tell you the same thing." Her eyes shifted to the others, then she looked back at him one last time before turning around and walking up the stairs.
When she was gone, he let out a shout in anger and threw silver coffee pot against the cave wall. It hit the wall with a clang and dropped, rolling on the ground a few times as it spilled its contents, much like his mood.
He felt their eyes on them and he whipped his head up, glaring at them. "What?!"
Tim and Jason simply narrowed their eyes at him, but Dick walked forward and knelt in front of him. "Kiddo, that wasn't a nice thing to say to mom."
Damian scoffed at him before shoving past, climbing up the stairs. “Like the three of you haven't said that to her before." There was no return to his statement, giving him all the answer, he needed.
***
He stepped out of the study stretching his arms and listening to the sound of his bones popping before he shifted, moving towards the door. The boys had left a few minutes earlier to catch a rerun of an episode of Vikings, leaving him alone in the cave.
Alfred walked up to him, handing him a sweater before motioning to the door. "Mrs. Wayne has taken a seat out on the patio. I suspect you'll wish to see her."
Bruce nodded, taking the sweater from him before thanking him and moving out of the study and towards the patio. He crossed into the living room as he did, stopping to stare at his four sons passed out on the couch. The TV was still going, so he leaned down, gently taking the remote from Dick's hand and shutting it off.
He set the remote down and started his path again, but stopped when he heard, "You going to check on mom?" He turned around, looking at a his oldest.
Bruce nodded, taking in the sight of Dick’s arms wrapped around all of his brothers. “After you boys told me what happened, I thought I should talk to her about it."
Dick nodded, reaching up and rubbing his eyes, careful not to wake the others beside him. "He didn't mean it...he'll see that when he gets over being angry."
Bruce nodded and leaned over, ruffling his hair. “Tell Jason that you two should stay at the manor tonight...it's too late for you to head home anyway."
Dick started to argue, but a look from his father and quick, “Your mother would have a fit if you two tried to drive home now or later…you know that.”
His son nodded and Bruce turned around once more, this time making his way to the dimly lit patio. His hand curled around the cool metal handle of the sliding glass door, and he quietly opened it, stepping out onto the deck. She lay on the porch swing, covered by a heavy hound’s tooth blanket, with a barely full wine glass in her hand.
He walked towards her and bent over, picking up the wine bottle; he shook it lightly before quipping, "I can't believe you've drank an entire bottle in one sitting."
As if finally noticing his presence, she tipped her head lazily to him and mumbled, "It's empty?"
He snorted and tipped the bottle upside down. "As it was the day before it was bottled."
Bruce paused and grinned as she huffed a laugh and brought the glass she had in her hand up to her mouth. He watched her down the rest of her red wine before she set the glass on the table; he set the bottle beside it and shifted her forward, easing his way behind her until they were both comfortable. She rested her back against his chest, her head dropping against his shoulder. His arms came up around her as he pulled the blanket up to her neck, keeping her warm.
He was quiet for a second then he murmured, "...The boys told me what happened earlier."
There was a moment of silence, then she whispered, "I know I should be used to it after hearing it come from each of them..." She stopped, then continued with, "But it still stings to hear it."
A sad smile crossed his lips as he pressed his lips to her temple. "Of course it stings (Y/N)...you're their mother and you love them." After he didn't receive a response from her, he tipped his head and looked down. "(Y/N)? Love?" She turned her head, and he took in the sight of the tears in her eyes; his face fell at the sight and he brought a hand up, cupping her cheek. "Oh…sweetheart."
(Y/N) choked out a sob and pressed her face into the crook of his neck as she clenched a hand in his sweater. Bruce rested his chin on the top of her head as he rubbed her back, comforting her with quiet words.
***
Damian watched them from the screen door, feeling his heart clench in his chest at the sight of (Y/N) sobbing. He swallowed thickly and stepped back, only to come into contact with someone—something. He let out a quiet gasp and spun around, seeing Dick staring sadly out at his parents, Tim and Jason behind him doing the same.
Damian looked at them and whispered, "What are you three doing?"
Dick glanced at him briefly before motioning to them. "We heard the sliding door open, and we went to listen."
"I didn't know you were eavesdroppers."
A hand came up and cuffed him upside the head; he held his head, glaring at Jason who bit out, "Shut up, two-bit. You were eavesdropping too."
Damian opened his mouth to retort, but shut it and turned back around, looking at her. A moment passed, then he mumbled, "You said the same thing I did." He looked up at his brothers, who wore clouded expressions; each of them nodded after a few seconds, and he asked, "What happened?"
Dick was the first to speak, remembering a time from when he was a mere ten years old.
***
He stomped angrily through the house, not even caring about her following him; she called after him repeatedly. "Dick. Dick, honey, stop for a second."
He didn't listen, still moving. "No! You grounded me!"
"And I grounded you for a reason. You deliberately disobeyed me." He grunted at her and she called out, her voice ringing with authority, "Richard John Grayson. Not another step young man." He stopped at it and she continued, "You left the cave tonight and went on patrol without asking. As your mom-"
He spun around, his eyes angered as he spit, "You're not my mom! Stop acting like it!" Her mouth shut, and her eyes went wide from the declarations.
She blinked, obviously stunned at his words, and she stared down at her hands murmuring, "I may not be your real mother...but I...I am...I..." She drew off, bringing a hand up to wipe at her cheek. Dick's widened when she looked up at him, and he saw the tears beginning to spill, running down her cheeks.
He raised his hands out to her. "Wait! I—I didn't mean it!"
(Y/N) looked down and she brought a hand up to her mouth, moving past him, letting out a broken, 'excuse me'. He watched her go past him, then a few moments later, Bruce walked into the room and he turned to him.
"Bruce!" Bruce looked down at him, taking in the sight of Dick, who was almost in tears.
The lecture he had ready for him went out the window as he squatted in front of Dick. "Dick?"
The boy looked up at him, tears filling those big blue eyes. "I—I messed up B-Bruce."
He reached out a hand, wiping his tears away. "What happened Dick?"
Dick lowered his head and he whispered, "I a—accidently told (Y/N) that she wasn't my m-mom."
Bruce sighed at him and murmured, “Oh, Dick." The boy began to sob, and Bruce reached out, pulling him into a hug. "It's okay, bud."
***
Dick looked at her and murmured, "I've never forgotten the look she gave me after I said it to her..." He looked down at Damian, and said, "And neither has she."
Jason nodded at that. "I'm sure she's never forgotten how I left the cave telling her I had to go find my real mom.
***
"What are you looking at baby?"
He jerked forward, clicking the screen to minimize the images. "Nothing!" He spun around to see her walking towards him, an amused smile on her face.
"And I'm assuming that nothing is not important?" She questioned.
He nodded. "Not at all."
She stared at him until he sighed and turned around, clicking the screen to reveal the images of the three women; she walked up to him. "Who are these women?"
He pointed to each one. "Sharmin Rosen, Lady Shiva, and Sheila Haywood."
(Y/N) nodded, looking at them. "They're very pretty women." She paused and looked at him. "But why are you looking at them." He dropped his gaze and picked at his fingers. "Jason? Hon?"
He looked back up at her. "One of them is my mom."
Her eyes widened as she said, "Like...your biological mom?"
He nodded. "I found out after I went back to my old apartment." He looked between the screen and (Y/N). "I'm gonna track them down." She was silent, her eyes moving to the screen, and he turned to her, rising from the chair. "I have to go find them...I have to go find my real mom."
***
"And those were the last words I ever said to Ma." They stared at Jason as he leaned against a table by the door. "And it got a lot worse when I came back...I said horrible things to Ma...about her not caring...about her not being a mother." He went silent and shook his head. "I fucked up a lot of things between us for a good couple years."
Tim watched him, then nodded. "I hadn't even realized I'd actually said it to mom...it was such an offhanded comment that I didn't even know what I said until she was gone."
***
He barely registered the sound of his bedroom door opening, let alone the sound of her footsteps as she walked up to him. He did, however, hear the disappointment in her tone as she said, "Timmy...you need to go to bed."
He shook his head, typing on the keyboard. "I'm fine."
"Honey, you've been awake for almost forty-eight hours." She rested a hand on his shoulder. "It's not good for your body if you stay up like this."
"I'm fine. Really, I'm good."
She squeezed his shoulder, the other hand reaching out to close the laptop. "You'll be good when you're asleep in bed." Skimming the top of this laptop, she stopped when his curled around her wrist.
He turned to her and said, "Will you stop mothering me? I'm fine. I don't need your help."
He let go of her and turned back to the screen, barely registering the way she quietly whispered, “Alright Timmy...goodnight”, and walked out of his room.
***
"The only reason I actually realized what I said was after a few minutes, I realized that she hadn't told me she loved me after saying good night." He paused, digging a groove into the carpet with his toes. "Mom didn't say anything about it the next day, but I could tell that something had shifted. She was more reserved when it came to me." He looked at Damian. "Look, I know you and I don't get along, but I'm going to tell you something brother to brother. Go apologize to mom and tell her that you didn't mean it."
It was all he said before he looked at the others and waved. "I'm going to bed.
Jason soon followed saying, "I'm with Timbers. I'm gonna go crash."
The two of them began making their way to their rooms when the sound of the screen door opening and closing brought their attention back. They looked towards it, seeing Bruce carrying (Y/N), her head pressed against his chest.
He stopped when he saw them, his surprised look giving way to a hard expression. "Were you four watching?" They all started making excuses, but he shushed them, nodding at their sleeping mother; they shut their mouths and he brought his foot back, sliding the door closed.
"Is mom alright?"
Bruce looked at Dick and nodded. "She's fine. Wine drunk...but fine." He looked down at Damian. "(Y/N) does a lot for all of us. You owe her an apology when she wakes up." Damian nodded, watching as he walked past them, carrying her up the stairs to their bedroom.
***
The dull throb in her head told her the migraine was something she was going to need some aspirin, water, and a heavy blanket to block out the light to fix. She groaned lightly as she burrowed her face in her pillow, then she opened her eyes and looked around the room.
Immediately, she took in the sight of the four of her boys curled up like cats in the bed with her. A smile graced her lips and she reached down beside her hip, running a hand over Tim's head; he shifted in his sleep, burying his face in her side and she struggled to bite back the laugh that wanted to come out. She reached over again and ran her hands through Dick and Jason's hair, watching them do the same.
She smiled at them, then a voice sounded from beside her. "Are you awake, Umi?" (Y/N) looked to her side, seeing Damian curled up beside her. Bruce's broad shoulders made him look so tiny from where he was laying and she nodded, raising a hand and caressing his head.
"I'm awake, sweetheart." He nodded, then moved under her arm, resting his head on her shoulder. Her arm settled comfortably around him, and she brought up her hand, gently running her fingers through his short hair.
After a few moments he whispered, "...I'm sorry, Umi."
Her response was to press her lips to his forehead, and murmur, "I know, baby."
He swallowed thickly, feeling the beginnings of tears gathering in his eyes. "I didn't mean to say it."
She nodded; her lips still pressed to his forehead. "I know you didn't, sweetheart. It was something said in anger."
He moved to sit up, looking up at her as he whispered harshly, "But I have hurt you! I made you cry! I...did this." He dropped his gaze, closing his eyes, and (Y/N) watched the tears begin to fall down his cheeks. He looked back up at her a few seconds later and said, "You are my mother, Umi...you are the only mother I've known."
(Y/N) shifted, careful not to wake her sons, then she cupped Damian's cheeks in her hands. "Baby...it's okay...I'm not angry at you."
He shook his head in her grip. "But you're sad because I said you weren't my mother."
(Y/N) brushed her thumbs under his eyes, wiping away the tears. "We all say things that we don't mean." He looked up at her and she searched his eyes. "What matters is that when they are said, we try our best to fix what we've done wrong."
Damian nodded his head and whispered, "I'm sorry, Umi."
A sad smile crossed her lips and she leaned forward, kissing his forehead. "I am too, baby." She pulled away and brushed his cheeks again. "I still love you though...with all my heart."
"You do? Even after what I said?"
(Y/N) nodded, pulling him to her; he rested his head under her chin, and she wrapped her arms around him as she murmured, "The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness." She brought up a hand, caressing the side of his head as she whispered, "Each of you has told me as some point that I am not what I am. But I know deep down that none of you meant it. And each time I heard it, it hurt...but forgiveness is a good thing when used."
"To err is human...to forgive...divine."
She smiled at his quote and squeezed him gently. "I love you, Damian...my beautiful baby boy."
The feeling of tears gathered in his eyes, but he blinked them away, his hand clenching in her shirt as he replied, "I love you too, Umi."
There was a moment of silence between them until, "How come the demon-spawn gets all the love? We were here first."
Damian raised his head, glaring at Tim. "I am Umi's favorite, Drake."
"The hell you are, Tater-tot. If anyone's the favorite, it's me."
"I think you're wrong, Little-wing. Iwas the first. I'm the favorite."
"No one asked you, dickhead."
"Mom! Jason called me a mean name!"
"Mom! Jason called me a mean name!"
"Stop mocking me!"
"Stop mocking me!"
"Mom!"
"Mom!"
(Y/N) rolled her eyes at her two oldest as they began to shove at each other, and eventually, Tim and Damian got into the mess, and she watched their fists and feet fly at each other.
A grunt sounded from beside her and she looked down to see her husband glaring at her. "You just had to get them going this early, didn't you, Mrs. Wayne?"
(Y/N) let out a 'pfft' and leaned down, pressing her lips to his before laying her head on his arm, their foreheads touching. "Yeah...but I know that when they're fighting like this, they're giving each other love."
"Tough love."
She snorted and tickled his side, feeling him jerk away. "But love nonetheless."
He opened his mouth to respond, but the sound of someone grunting cut him off. "Mom! Jason won't let me out of this headlock!"
"Mom! Jason won't let me-"
"STOP MOCKING ME, JASON!"
"You're unbearable, Drake! I am Umi's favorite!"
"Keep telling yourself that, oompa-loompa."
"I am not an oompa-loompa!"
(Y/N) sighed and looked at her husband. "Never a dull morning, is it Mr. Wayne?"
He grinned at her but grunted when one of them hit his side. "No, it's not Mrs. Wayne. No, it is not."

My fathers daughter
prologue
Tony Stark x daughter! reader
Summary: By all definitions you were a daddy’s girl. It’s been you and him since your mom left you both. But what happens when your both forced to face your past?
a/n: y’all know i can’t resist a good crossover
If there had to be a face for daddys girl, you’d be the poster child.
Ever since you came into Tony’s life, you and him have been attached by the hip.
You were with him through everything.
When he became Iron Man, when he joined the avengers, and even during civil war. Even though it hurt you to see your family be torn apart, you could never betray your father. Then again, you have to admit that you were happy that the avengers compromised and were able to get back together. Earning you a new family member in Bucky. You were happy. Happy with the life you have with your dad and avengers.
Which is why your mother suddenly reappearing and demanding to be in your life kinda of peeved you off.
Let’s start from the beginning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It started off with a gala.
Some bougie charity event that rich assholes attend to donate large sums of money, not out of kindness, but only to show just how rich they are. You hated these types of events. You hated the fake smiles and false interest in your life. All they wanted was to get close to your dad. They even try to set you up with their snobby stuck up kids. You hated it.
And here you were, trying to find a way to get out of this boring conversation with some snob from Beverly hills. You can see your dad laughing at you from across the room.
“You know, you look a lot like Mrs. Wayne.” He suddenly says, looking at you.
“Who?” You ask, suddenly paying attention.
“Mrs. Wayne, you know, Bruce Wayne's wife.”
You know who Bruce Wayne was. Your dad absolutely detestes the man. He never really told you why. He just said to never trust a Wayne. You also know that he’s Batman and his army of children are/were Robin. It was pretty obvious and rather easy to figure out. Then again, you were able to hack into the Bat computers main systems. They really need to update their firewalls.
“Um no I didn’t know that he had a wife to be honest.” You reply, not really interested.
“You can pass as her daughter you know? She is very beautiful. As are you.” He says in a flirty tone.
You roll your eyes, seeing your father finishing up a conversation and make your move, but then you hear
“Oh look, there's the Wayne family right there.”
Causing the attention to turn to the main entrance. There you saw Bruce Wayne. Tall, handsome, and charismatic. He was smiling, waving at the host. Next to him, his oldest son Dick. Another very handsome man, Tall with blue eyes and raven hair. Sending charming smiles to the crowds of women. Then Tim Drake, too focused on his phone to pay attention to the crowds, and finally Damian Wayne. A small boy with a sharp scowl. To his left, you can barely make out the form of his wife and his daughter, Cassandra Cain. You can also see Stephanie Brown chatting excitedly to Mrs. Wayne, who you still couldn’t see.
“Jeez, they brought the whole cavalry.” You mutter, looking at the star struck boy you were talking to.
You roll your eyes. The way people worship this family is strange. They act as if they are royalty or gods. You look at your father, expecting him to be making a sarcastic face or something. But that’s not what you saw. No, you saw a look on his face that you haven’t seen on his face ever. That’s when you walked up to him.
“Daddy...are you okay?” You asked cautiously. He turned to you, shocked.
“Y/n!” He practically shouts, “ I’m okay, are you okay? We can leave right now if you’re not okay?”
You frown in confusion, “ Umm yeah, I’m fine...”
“Good, Good. We’re going to leave now, this gala kinda blows. DOn’t you think?”
You can see his eyes dart to the Waynes to you. He looks...panicked. It was weird to you. Usually he keeps his cool during events like these.
“Um sure..I just need to go to the restroom first” You say, seeing him nod. You walk off, shaking off the concern you have for your father. As you push through the crowds, you can hear them whisper as you passed. Something about Mrs. Wayne.
You shake your head, “Can’t they talk about anything else??”
Then you finally find the bathroom. You walk in, expecting it to be empty, only to be faced with Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown. They were chatting near the sinks as you walking into the stall. After doing your business, you walked out to the sink, going to wash your hands, but you saw Stephanie freeze, then nudge Cassandra. They both stared at you as you washed your hands and went to dry them. You give them a side eye, wondering why they were staring at you so hard.
“Um hi?” You say carefully, the jump not expecting you to speak.
“Oh! Hello Im Stephanie and this is Cass” Stephanie says with a smile. “ You’re Y/n Stark right?”
“Uh yeah...Its nice to meet you dudes” You say quickly, already ready to walk out the restroom.
“I’m sorry for staring, it’s just that...you look a lot like her mother” She says gesturing to Cassandra.
You chuckle, “ Uh yeah so I’ve heard...hey I gotta go...”
“Oh right! Sorry heh” Stephanie laughs nervously, “It was great to meet you”
“Yeah” You agree half heartedly, “ You too”
And with that you go to find your father. You pass by the Wayne sons, only to see them take a double take when you pass them.
“God that family is weird.” You mumble seeing your father talking to Bruce and his wife. He looked distressed and angry. You speed up, wanting to make sure your father doesn’t punch Bruce Wayne the way he looks like he's going to.
“Hey dad...um I’m ready to go.” You says with your back turned on the Waynes.
“Y/n..” Your dad says panic exploding on his face, “ Y/n sweetheart um...”
“Yn?” You hear a woman whisper. You turn to see Bruce Wayne and...your mother.
You remember the day she left. It was a sunny day. The kind of days that usually are in good memories and have happy endings. She was supposed to take you to the park so you can meet your dad there. You hardly saw her over the years, just every three months when she would come to the then Stark Tower to visit. But that say...that day was different. She had gotten a call, from who you don’t know, nut it seemed important. Because she left at that very moment and never came back. She never reached out, never called, texted or anything. Just radio silence. Your dad was heart broken. He had hoped that one day she would move in with you and him, and you could be a family. He loved her with his whole heart, but she just didn’t love you both enough to stay. He was a mess after she left, and you picked up the pieces.
You were nine.
If it wasn’t for Pepper stepping in after witnessing one of his breakdowns, you don’t know what would’ve happened.
You stare at the woman who left you, who broke your fathers heart. Who broke your heart.
“Ms. Wayne.” you say curtly, taking pleasure in the way her face fell, “ Mr. Wayne, it’s lovely to see you again. If you’ll excuse me and my father, it seems like he’s not feeling too well.”
You weren’t lying, Tony looked like he was about to puke. His face was pale and he was kinda sweaty. So you wrapped your arm around him and lead him to the entrance, starting to pull out your phone to call Happy.
“Y/n wait!” Your mother cried out, pulling her arm away from Bruce and placing a hand in your shoulder. You jerked your shoulder out of her grasp.
“ Y/n, I know you’re mad at me” she starts, cringing when she hears you scoff, “ But wait a second. Let me look at you...my petal you’re so big.”
You turn and glare at her, “ Don’t call me that.”
“Oh Y/n, please—“You cut her off again.
“Hey i’m just going along with what you want. This is what you wanted right? No contact with us?”
You can see a crowd start to form around you, and you see the scattered Wayne’s push through it. They look at each other in confusion trying to understand how you seem to know their mother.
“ Of course that’s not what I wanted, oh petal I meant to call I just...” She trailed off
“Couldn’t be bothered?” you say harshly, “ I couldn’t care less. Just leave us alone. That should be easy for you.”
You feel your dad tug on your hand, and you turn to him. Eyes softening when you see the expression on his face.
“ Happys here kiddo.” He says softly. You nod and start to walk away. And you hear your mother protest, but you cut her off with a venomous,
“It was nice seeing you again Mom.”
and then you were gone. This time, leaving your mother behind and her confused husband and children.
The Strings That Bind Us: Epilogue Part One
AO3
Prev
Marinette inhales sharply, sitting straight up in bed. She frowns, glancing down at her stomach. She could’ve sworn- there! Grinning, she reaches down and places a gentle hand on her stomach.
“Hey baby, let’s go see if your daddy’s home yet. He’s gonna be kicking himself for missing this.” Marinette coos, gently cradling the small bump. Pushing open her bedroom door, she makes her way to the study. It was the easiest way to get to the cave. Especially since she was five months pregnant. A fireman’s pole is not the easiest thing to use on a normal day. Walking towards the computer, she smiles at Alfred.
“You’re up late, Miss Marinette.” Alfred says, glancing over at her. “Are you having trouble sleeping?” He asks. She shakes her head, grinning widely.
“Not at all. But this little one decided to kick.” Marinette practically squeals. Alfred’s face lights up and he stands, moving away from the computer.
“Are they still kicking?” He asks. She nods, reaching out for his hand. She takes it and places it on her stomach. They sit there in silence for a moment, before the baby kicks again and Alfred smiles, moving back to the computer. “Master Bruce will be ecstatic. Was this the first time?” Marinette plops into the chair next to him, resting her hands on her bump and sighing happily.
“The first time that I could really tell. I mean, there have been little flutters here and there, but the doctors said it could be gas. This was the first time that I could really tell what was happening.” She says, smiling down at her bump. The squealing of tires makes her sit up and watch amusedly as Dick speeds into the cave, parking his bike haphazardly.
“Whoever said patrolling with your ex was a good idea, was wrong.” He huffs out. Marinette quirks an eyebrow, grinning at her oldest.
“Did Babs put you in your place?” She asks cheekily. Dick frowns.
“What’re you doing down here? Shouldn’t you be sleeping? You’re growing a person.” He chastises her, crossing his arms. Marinette snorts.
“Your little sibling decided to kick me awake.” She says. Dick gasps, yanking his mask off, his eyes comically wide.
“They’re kicking!” He exclaims. She laughs and nods. “Does B know?” He asks.
“He’s patrolling. I came down to see if he was home yet. Didn’t wanna distract him by calling on the comms.” Marinette says with a shrug. Dick frowns.
“Surely this is more important to him.” He says. Marinette smiles softly.
“I never said it wasn’t, sweetheart. But I’m not going to risk your father getting hurt because he’s distracted.” She says softly. Dick sighs, but before he can say anything else, the Batmobile whips into the cave.
“Dick, you can’t just run- Marinette?” Bruce falters, frowning. She didn’t blame him. She didn’t love spending time in the Batcave. Especially since Jason’s…accident.
“Tell him, M.” Dick says happily, taking Bruce’s distraction as a way to get out of a lecture. Marinette rolls her eyes lightly at their oldest.
“Tell me what?” Bruce asks. It’s as if his voice sets something off, and the baby starts kicking again. Marinette grins, grabbing her husband’s hand and resting it on her bump. He frowns for a moment, and then the baby kicks. And his entire face lights up.
“Your youngest decided to wake me up. So we decided to surprise you.” She says with a small smile. Bruce leans forward and kisses her gently. Marinette melts into it, reaching up and stroking his cheek.
“Ugh, why the PDA?” Jason asks. Marinette whirls around, raising an eyebrow at the sight of their second oldest in the cave. He was rarely ever in there. Only if he needed her or Bruce. Or if Tim or Damian needed them.
“What’s wrong?” She asks, frowning. Jason snorts, shaking his head.
“Ya know, Ma, just because I come down here doesn’t mean something’s wrong.” He says. Marinette raises an eyebrow, waiting for him to just say it. He sighs, letting his shoulders slump.
“Damian had a nightmare and couldn’t find you.” He says. Swearing mentally, she moves to the stairs, ruffling Jason’s hair as she passes.
“Thanks, mon chou.” She says softly. Jason turns and follows her.
“Why were you down here anyway? You’re never in the cave.” He says, frowning. Marinette just grins.
“Your youngest sibling was in a kicking mood.” She says. He grins.
“Really?” He asks. She nods. Before he can say anything else, she hears Damian’s cry as he calls for her. Immediately pushing through the grandfather clock, she rushes out of the study and towards her baby.
“Oh sweetheart.” She says softly, scooping him up and holding him close.
“Maman! I had a bad dream, and then I couldn’t find you or Father.” He cries, snuggling into her. She sighs.
“I know minou, I’m so sorry baby.” She coos, rocking him back and forth. Bruce steps out of his office, hair disheveled.
“Hey Damian, Jay said you had a bad dream.” He says softly. Damian lifts his head up, nodding slowly. Bruce frowns. “How about you sleep with your Maman and I tonight?” He offers. Damian nods, and Marinette smiles softly, moving towards their room.
---
Marinette looks down at the little envelope in her hand, before glancing at Lois and giving her a firm look.
“I know that Bruce and Alfred, and my Maman, can be intimidating. But do not, under any circumstances, let them know about the contents of this envelope before the reveal. And no matter how hard I plead, because I’m certain I’ll want to know between now and then, don’t tell me either. Okay?” Marinette asks. Lois laughs, but nods.
“Got it, Mari. You know, I have kept Clark’s identity a secret for years, right?” She asks. Marinette laughs.
“Yeah, yeah. Speaking of Clark,” Marinette starts, raising an eyebrow. “Try not to tell him either. I trust that you can keep it a secret from B, but I seriously doubt Clark could.” Lois snorts.
“Yeah, you’re definitely right on that one.” She grins.
“Mom, Damian and Jon are stuck.” Tim says, walking into the room with a huff. Marinette raises an eyebrow.
“Stuck? Where?” She asks, standing up with a small groan. She was almost six months pregnant, and her ‘small’ bump was starting to get… not small.
“In a tree in the gardens.” Tim says with a wince. Marinette yelps and rushes out of the house, going as fast as she can to get to her baby.
“Maman!” Damian yells, clutching a branch like a lifeline. A branch too far for her to reach.
“Minou! Baby, how did you get up there? Where’s Jon?” She asks, panic seeping into her veins. “Tim, go see if you can find Jay or Dick.” She tells her second youngest. He nods before running back towards the house.
“Hi ma’am.” Jon says softly, poking his head out from behind some leaves.
“What’s wrong, M?” Dick asks, running towards them, Jason and Tim trailing behind him.
“Your brother and Jon are stuck in the tree and I can’t climb up there.” She says, hands shaking. “Don’t worry guys, we’re gonna get you down.” She calls up, trying to make her voice sound as light as possible, not wanting the kids to panic.
“Hey guys! I’m gonna climb up and help you down, okay.” Dick calls up, squeezing her shoulder lightly. “It’ll be okay, M.” Marinette practically holds her breath as Dick grabs Jon and passes him down to Jason, who then passes him to Lois.
“Never do that again, do you hear me?” She asks worriedly, brushing his hair out of his eyes.
“Yes mama.” Jon says softly. Marinette bites her lip as Damian fights against Dick, clutching tightly onto the branch.
“Damian, baby, you gotta let go.” Marinette calls.
“No! Maman, help!” He calls. Tears prick at her eyes. Her poor baby was terrified. And there was only one thing she could do. Letting out a shaky breath, she moves closer to the tree.
“Watch out Jay.” She says softly. His eyes widen.
“Ma, you can’t seriously think climbing a tree is a good idea?” He huffs out.
“Just, spot me. Okay?” She asks, smiling softly at him.
“Marinette, don’t you dare. Let me call for Clark.” Lois begs.
“M, I’ve got it, please don’t-” Dick starts, but Marinette ignores him, pulling herself up onto a limb.
“Maman!” Damian calls, eyes wide. Marinette smiles softly.
“I know baby, I’m coming.” She says softly, gently cradling her bump as she tries to balance on the branch.
“M, please, stay right there. Dames look, she’s right here. Please come here, buddy.” Dick says, his voice tense.
“Clark!” Lois yells, just as the branch Damian was on breaks. Marinette doesn’t think. She lunges forward, desperate to catch her baby boy. She catches him, but her foot slips and her heart drops as they fall.
“Mom!” Dick yells, lunging forward. She doesn’t even have time to think about how this was it. This was the first time Dick had called her mom, and it was because she’d done something stupid. Marinette squeezes her eyes shut as arms wrap around her and Damian.
“I’ve got you, don’t worry. You guys are okay.” Clark says softly, setting her gently on the ground. Marinette bursts into tears, clutching Damian close to her chest. Her sobs grow harder as she feels her other sons latch onto her.
“I’m sorry Maman.” Damian cries.
“Oh baby, it’s okay. It’s not your fault sweetheart, just- do me a favor. Don’t- please don’t climb so high next time.” She says softly, hands still shaking. They were all okay. It was okay.
“What happened?” Bruce’s voice is tinged with panic. Damian scrambles out of her hold and rushes to him, reaching for him and surprising everyone. Everyone knew that Damian was attached to her hip. She blinks, trying to find the breath to explain.
“Maman and I fell out of a tree.” Damian says, his bottom lip quivering. Bruce’s eyes widen immediately and he rushes over to her, falling to his knees in front of her.
“Are you okay? Is the baby okay?” He asks softly, reaching out and gently touching her stomach. She nods.
“I-yeah. Clark showed up.” She says, nodding towards the man. “Can someone help me stand up, please.” She grumbles, frustrated with herself. Dick immediately hops to his feet, helping her up gently. Marinette smiles softly at Clark. “Thank you.” She whispers. He grins.
“No problem.” He says, turning back to Lois and Jon.
“M, are you sure-” Bruce starts, but she cuts him off.
“We’re fine, love. I’m going to go inside and lie down.” She says, returning Jason and Tim’s short hugs before turning and walking towards the house. The second she’s inside, she falls into a chair in the dining room, breathing shakily as tears sting at her eyes. She hugs herself, shakily exhaling. It was okay. They were okay. The door opens and she frantically wipes at her eyes, eyebrows furrowed in shock as Dick walks in.
“You scared me.” He says softly. Marinette sighs, patting the seat next to her.
“I’m sorry sweetheart. I was just-”
“You fell. And I couldn’t catch you.” Dick says, his voice breaking. Marinette presses her lips together in a firm line, heart clenching.
“I know.” She says, frowning. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart.” She says again. Dick nods, before launching himself forward, wrapping his arms around her as he cries. She rubs his back gently as he cries, hearing the door open and close and the sound of Bruce leading the other kids elsewhere. Good. Dick needed to have a minute to just cry. His cries eventually subside to sniffles and he pulls back. Marinette sighs, gently brushing his hair out of his face.
“Are you okay?” She asks softly.
“You know I think of you as my mom, right?” He asks softly. Her eyes widen slightly, but she nods.
“Of course, honey. You don’t have to call me mom for me to be your mom.” She says.
“Please don’t do something like that again.” He says softly. She nods.
“I won’t, don’t worry. And I seriously doubt your little brother will climb a tree again anytime soon.” She sighs. It was scary. But it was okay. They were all okay.
Contagious adoption Part 2: Creatures
Marinette and Tim were sitting in the living room of one of Tim’s apartments. They had flown in from the Tibet village about thirteen or fourteen hours ago.
Tim had filled out all the adoption papers and any other legal papers his newly claimed daughter would need. To his surprise, Marinette had identification papers. He had thought the little deity didn’t need them. After all, Marinette had lived on the hill to grant wishes, why would she need identification papers.
Unless she didn’t live on the hill her whole life…
Thinking back to what Marinette had said when he asked her why she stayed up on the mountain all alone. Tim had a feeling she’s been abandoned before.
Back on the mountain, Marinette had shifted from one foot to the other a few times before answering his question. She seemed to have been contemplating what to tell him. Or was it how much to tell him?
Her answer, “Because I have nowhere else to go and no one waiting for me anywhere.” was a well-thought-out way to respond.
If no one wants you, then no one waits for you.
If no one waits for you, then you have nowhere to go.
“... ake, Mr. Drake,” Marinette called for the umpteenth time.
“Sorry about that, guess I got lost in my thoughts,” Tim said with a sheepish smile. “Did you need something? Oh, and you can just call me Tim, or any variation of dad that you’re comfortable with.”
“Oh, uh, I don’t need anything… ” The little deity trailed off. “But, uh, does… does Papa work?”
Tim gave his daughter a soft smile.
‘His daughter. Now wasn’t that a strange thought.’ Tim couldn’t help but think to himself.
“You can call me Papa if you want.” He said with a smile, before adding, “I can speak French and a few other languages.”
Tim was unsure why he felt like mentioning that he can speak French was important. However, when Tim saw Marinette look up at him in awe, he couldn’t help but think It was the right thing to say.
“Now, what is it you wanted to do,” Tim asked, picking his daughter up so she doesn’t have to look up at him the whole conversation.
“Can we make cookies? It’s… It’s been a long time since I’ve had any…” Marinette trailed off again.
“Of course we can make cookies. What kind did you want to make?” Tim asked with a soft smile.
Life continued like normal for the young CEO, vigilante, with the addition of a small deity. However, there were a few changes to his lifestyle.
Tim was now able to cook and bake, not as good as Alfred, but he figured that Alfred won’t ban him from the kitchen.
Tim also registered Marinette Drake-Wayne as being homeschooled. Which was fine since Tim was technically qualified to homeschool his kid. However, Marinette flew through the classes like they were nothing. Her teachers wanted to have her IQ tested, but Marinette said she didn’t want to, so no one pushed it.
Tim also worked from home, only ever showing up to meetings. He also seemed to have a little helper when it came to some of the paperwork. Turns out, Marinette knows how a business runs, and how to run one. It was slightly concerning, but his daughter waved his concern off.
Tim took a break from being a vigilante. He still helped out by sending the bats reports of the rogue of the day, or sometimes a week, that they were tracking. Marinette helped out with this as well. Apparently, she’s been a vigilante before. To say that Tim was concerned was an understatement, but his concern was once again, waved off.
After a month of living with his adopted daughter, Tim had his first in-person meeting at W.E.
“Hey bean, do you want to come with me to work?” Tim asked while making breakfast.
“Am I allowed to?” Marinette shot back in response.
“I mean, B. always took his kids to work so, I’m just gonna say you’re allowed to,” Tim answered with a shrug, setting the food at the table.
Marinette shrugged back.
“Sure! I’ll go ahead and call H.R. and let them know I’ll be making my first appearance as Marinette Drake-Wayne.” Marinette informed him, before digging into her food.
Tim chuckled at that.
“You’re definitely gonna be H.R.’s favorite.” He claimed before he began eating his breakfast.
“Papa, I used to grant magic wishes on a hill with mythical creatures, that is my version of normal. I’m willing to bet that I will be H.R.’s least favorite person by the end of the year.” Marinette claimed, causing Tim to laugh.
“Bean, sweetheart, you’re about to call H.R. to let them know about a mess they will have to clean up. The rest of the Waynes, myself included, usually just let them find out through the tabloids and news stations. You’re definitely gonna be their favorite.” Tim informed his daughter.
_______________________
Tim stepped out of his car and walked through W.E. up to his office. He was aware of the attention that was on him, not bothered by it in the slightest.
He looked down at his daughter to see that she was trying to hide from sight. She was clearly not comfortable with everyone looking at her. Well, everyone looking at her and the lack of magic. He really should have remembered that Marinette has extremely bad anxiety whenever she can’t freely use magic. In his defense, it seemed that neither of them had remembered due to having barely left the apartment the whole month Marinette has been living there.
Tim looked up and around the workplace. He raised a brow at the employees that were just watching, most of them scrambled to work, or simply turned their attention away to seem busy.
When Tim and Marinette finally made it to Tim’s office, they thought they could relax, only to see the rest of the Waynes sitting inside.
Bruce looked like he was about to ask something, but stopped when he caught sight of the little girl hiding behind Tim.
Tim of course, ignored his families questioning stares in favor of calming his daughter.
Tim sat Marinette down in his office chair with a cup of coffee, before turning his attention to the others in the room.
“I wasn’t aware everyone started working at W.E.” Tim joked with a raised brow. A clear question as to why they were in his office.
“Not all of us do,” Dick answered looking towards the small child. “Did you just give the tiny person coffee?”
Tim shrugs the question off easily, “Caffeine helps calm her anxiety when she’s too overwhelmed.”
“And who exactly is she?” Damian inquired, sounding a bit more like a demand than a question.
Tim looked over to Marinette who seemed to be doing slightly better. There wasn’t much else they could do besides give her more coffee and random tasks to do. He gestured for her to come over and talk, a simple task to take her mind off the lack of magic. She slowly made her way off the office chair and towards the group of people.
“Marinette, this is my adoptive father, brothers, and sister, Bruce, Barbara, Dick, Cass, Jason, Steph, and Damian. Guys, this is Marinette Drake-Wayne, my adopted daughter.”
Marinette gave a small, shy wave and smile before hiding behind her father once again.
“You disappeared for a month, and apparently adopted a kid.” Jason states. “Damn, and here I thought it was supposed to be my job to stress B. out.” He claimed with a chuckle.
“Could one of you watch Marinette for me while B. and I are in the meeting? I had asked her this morning if she wanted to come since I couldn’t leave her at home alone, but I don’t think either of us thought It would be this bad for her anxiety.” Tim states.
“How about those of us who don’t have a meeting to attend will go back to the manor, and we can watch over Marinette,” Barbara suggests.
Tim looked to Marinette to see if she would be ok with it, only to receive a shrug from the little deity.
“Ok.” Tim agreed after some hesitation. “If Marinette starts getting too anxious then give her something with caffeine in it and have her draw, or bake something,” Tim informs them.
After Marinette and Tim say their goodbyes, Marinette follows Barbara, Dick, Cass, and Steph out to the limo.
The drive to Wayne manor was awkward, to say the least. None of the Waynes had known that Tim adopted a kid, and they weren’t sure if she knew about their nightly activities, so they stayed quiet.
Tim’s daughter didn’t seem to mind the silence. Marinette was looking out the window calmly with no signs of her previous anxiety. However, every once in a while her hand slightly opens and closes as if grabbing something.
When they arrived at the manor, Dick was immediately grabbed into a hug by his daughter. Mar’i speaks too fast and excitedly for them to understand, unknowingly grabbing the attention of most of the Waynes.
Cass however, noticed the youngest and newest Waynes flinch at Mar’i’s unexpected appearance. Cass quickly and quietly, moved away from the other Waynes, bringing Marinette with her, inside the manor.
“Would the two of you like anything to drink or snack on?” Alfred asked when they entered.
“Tea. Muffin,” Cass says pointing to herself. “Coffee. Muffin?” Cass said pointing to Marinette.
“Of course, why don’t the two of you relax in the garden,” Alfred suggests.
Cass nodded her head leading them to the garden while Alfred left to prepare their snacks and drinks. Marinette seemed to be stuck in her head and simply followed Cass silently.
Marinette and Cass spent the afternoon in the garden, the plants seemed to have a calming effect on the smaller Wayne. After Marinette being in the garden for a while and drinking her coffee, Marinette seemed to have calmed down.
However, not all of Marinette’s anxiety and nerves were calmed by the coffee and plants. Cass just wasn’t sure what else could be calming the little bluenette.
After a few more minutes had passed, some small creatures started gravitating towards Marinette.
A white rabbit, some squirrels, birds, even a butterfly landed on Marinette’s nose making the girl giggle.
Cass could only watch in awe as the small creatures came closer. None of them wanted any food, water, or shelter, they simply wanted Marinette’s attention.
Then Cass noticed that the few small injuries and bruises she had received from last night’s patrol were fading away.
No.
They were healing.
Cass took out her phone and quickly recorded her injuries healing too fast to be normal, this seemed like the kind of thing the other bats would want to know.
Cass also took a video and a few pictures of Marinette playing with the animals. She had to admit, the pictures looked adorable, so of course, she sent some to Tim.
Chat: Tim
Cass: one attached picture*
Tim: good call on bringing her to the garden
Cass: Alfred idea
Tim: where are the others
Cass: Mar’i frightened? Marenet?
Tim: KEEP MARINETTE AWAY FROM KORI AND MARI
Cass: why
Tim: Marinette isn’t
Tim: normal
Cass: one attached video*
Tim: yeah
Tim: her anxiety is caused by not being able to use magic freely
Tim: should have mentioned that before
Tim: sorry
Cass: I text others?
Tim: Yeah go-ahead
Tim: Lunch break is over
Tim: I'll see you guys when the meetings are over
Cass: ok
Cass shot a quick text to Dick, warning him that Tim doesn’t want Kor’i or Mar’i near Marinette till he was at the manor, before looking up from her phone to check on Marinette. She seemed to be relaxed, definitely not as anxious as before. Cass probably wouldn’t have been able to tell that Marinette has anxiety from looking at her right now.
Marinette looked up from the little creatures she seemed to have befriended, with a smile. She got up with some plants in her hand and made her way towards Cass.
Marinette placed a flower crown on Cass’s head with a giggle, before running back to the animals.
Cass couldn’t help but think that Tim had a lot of explaining to do when he gets to the manor.
‘But that’s not my problem to deal with.’ Cass thought to herself as she took a picture of the flower crown and sent it to the family chat.
a/n: I've had this recurring dream of this plot but it’s mostly in bits and pieces and I had the gruesome thought of sitting down and writing it. Time to write everything I remember and make it stretch into a piece of writing. Hope you enjoy!
playlist here
The receptionist called your name and alerted you that he was ready. Of course, the he in question was Tim Drake, the man of Wayne industries. It was intimidating to even think about, but you got out of your seat. You had to see it through.
You adjusted your pants a bit, the wrinkles from sitting had probably already set in.
The pretty receptionist walked until he stopped in front of a door. He reached out and opened it for you with a smile on his face. You thanked him and stepped into the room.
“Hello,”
Tim Drake looked up from the desk of paper work and greeted you.
“Right, Mr.Drake I’ve been told to deliver this letter to you.” You said.
At that moment your hands fish through the bag slung across your shoulder. The only piece of paper finds its way into your hand and you take it out. You reached over and handed it to him.
Tim took the paper out of your hands.
“Do you have any idea what this is about?” he asked.
You shook your head, “I’m just the messenger- or well I knew the person who wanted you to have it but not the contents.”
Tim nodded.
“I’ve actually gotta get going, I took my lunch break to deliver that.” you said.
“Oh, sorry to inconvenience-” “On no, trust me I needed to get out of the office anyways.”
You waved your hand goodbye and headed out the way you came. Out of Tim Drake’s office, past the pretty receptionist and into the elevator. All the way down to the main floor and out the front doors which were squeaky clean glass.
As you walked up the block away from the building, your phone began to ring. You took it out of your back pocket and clicked answer before you checked the caller ID.
“You answered.”
A voice that you never wanted to hear again. A voice that made you feel guilty for even thinking the previous thought. But the convolutions weren’t really the priority. The call was.
It stopped you in your tracks. You almost collided with another body on the street but you caught yourself before it could happen.
“I told you to not call unless it was an emergency-”
“It is.”
“An emergency concerning who specifically?”
“The only person you seem to care about from your past life.”
“What’s the situation?”
-
Tim Drake could be summarized as multiple things, the most important one being tired. When he gets home from patrol he doesn’t actually head to bed like a normal person. It’s Tim. His laptop previously open to some specs on a case. And his favorite mug is almost empty.
His head rests on the keyboard. This doesn’t do any damage to anything he’s working on as the screen had timed out.
This is how Bruce finds him.
The older man worked quietly and quickly in placing Tim in an actual bed and under the covers. After, he headed over to this desk to close his laptop. As his hands pushed the screen down he caught a glimpse of an envelope. With his name on it.
He picks it up and looks back at his son. Then back at the envelope. Thinking about why Tim would have a letter addressed to him. His eyes scan the desk more and he finds another envelope turned over. His hands pick it up and it’s addressed to Tim.
An envelope within an envelope
Bruce takes his letter and quietly leaves the room.
It’s a few moments before he opens it. He goes downstairs into the library to clear out the mess he had mad earlier in the day. And he talks with Alfred about an ongoing situation he needs his immeasurable knowledge on. It’s after that conversation has ended that Bruce opens the envelope.
He recognizes the handwriting immediately. One that he didn’t know he could remember for so long. One that belonged to someone he loved dearly, a very long time ago. Before he had sons, before he dawned the cowl. He doesn’t even think he had a cowl back when he was with-
His eyes finally glaze over the words.
Dear Bruce,
I know it’s been a long time since we’ve spoken. And I know it’s because we both decided to keep our distance. But I know when we had that conversation 20 something years ago, I was the one to bring it up. You’re probably wondering why I’m writing you to begin with.
First I want to apologize to you. I stepped away from you, from us because I was scared. I was only twenty something with my head in the clouds. And you were right by my side and it felt incredible.
But I was knocked out of the sky when I found out I was pregnant. I had a child- it’s yours. We have a child. Or we had. If you’re reading this it means that I have passed on. In between then and writing this letter I’ve had the time to actually think about the decision to go our separate ways.
In terms of me, I had to try and figure out if our child was a thing I wanted in my life. (Obviously you know the answer to this). In terms of you, I didn’t want to tie you down. You were doing great things and on the way to do so much more. You were only twenty five, you had your whole life ahead of you.
However that shouldn’t have been my decision alone, and for that I am truly sorry. Because now you have to find out this way and so does our child, and I’m not there to help either of you.
So I’ve decided to help you out a bit. This letter is supposed to be double enveloped- to your youngest son and then to you. I hope this letter finds you. Tim will have already met our child and not even known. You have a choice here to reach out.
I can’t write in words how sorry I am that I kept this secret. And that you’re learning it this way-
Bruce’s eyes look up from the letter and latch onto the bookcase in front of him. He lets out the breath he didn’t know he had been holding since seeing the distinct letters of his high school sweetheart.
“Father.”
He turns around.
There in the doorway of the library, is Damian.
“Yes son.”
“Richard called, he is arriving in Gotham in the morning.”
“Good. Thank you for letting me know.”
Damian nods his head once. And with that he leaves. His son, his biological child is not alone. He was never alone with Dick, Jason and Tim. But this, this changes things.
Whacky Gotham, Goofy New York, and Chaotic Paris.
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7)
Chapter 5: Then Let The Games Begin
•—–—–·†·–—–—•
Soooo, the Batfam is panicking, Gotham's confused as to why Iron Man is flying over Gotham like a madman, and Maria is with two of Gotham's Sirens (but only Ivy and Harley know this) having a wonderful time playing with Bud and Lou.
Let's start with the Sirens.
Harley is watching over Maria and Tikki as they sleep with Bud and Lou, Ivy walkes over to sit next to Harley, handing her a cup of tea.
"So, what's the diagnosis?" - Ivy
"She has some sort of trauma, has class issues... and handles more than she should, but still does everythin', on top of bein' a hero. She's been through some sh-t Pam." Yeah Harley may have found out Maria's a hero (if the tiny god and magic were anything to go by).
"Is she alone?" - Ivy
"No, thankfully, she has supportive parents, and friends that aren't little sh-ts. I think they're also heroes, she also has a lot, and I a mean A LOT of pent up emotions, she doesn't show anythin' negative, only positive things. She seems to shrink in on herself if she thinks she does somethin' wrong. Pam, we both know there's a limit to how much crap a person can take before they snap, and she's such a sweet kid. There has to be somethin' we can do to help her Ives." Ok she found out alot, but in Marias' defense, they have trustworthy souls, and they were the only other people (besides her friends) that she talked to about it, yes she had her Maman and Uncle to talk about hero stuff, but for the stuff her class does, she only ever vented (without being negative) to her friends.
"Her class is visiting the Botanical Gardens in three days, and it's a 2 part tour, so we can see just what's going on. If it's bad then we scare them a bit, if it's bad bad... they can handle a few slightly poisonous plants right?" - Ivy
"God I love the way ya think Ives, do ya think she can stay with us? I mean look at how cute she is with Bud and Lou... Oh my god, she's cuddlin' dem, and ya gave her a flower crown, how'd I miss that?! Where's the camera?"
Harley took a picture to remind her of this wonderful moment. As Ivy and Harley looked at the picture, they both promised to keep Maria safe, and maybe become sorta kinda-ish parents to her while she's in Gotham.
•—–·Now back to the Bat-Chaos Bat-Cave·–—•
Tim took over the chair and was now searching the possible locations with Jarvis, Damian was sitting on a different chair, trying to act cool, but he wouldn't stop looking over at Tim, to see his progress. Bruce was talking over the comms with Tony. Dick and Jason, weren't helping (they kept feeding each other worse and worse ideas of what could have happened to Maria). Then they heard Jarvis speak.
"I have found the most likely area Ms. Dupain-Cheng would be in. Her phone died about 56 blocks away from her hotel, if we don't count kidnapping, or murder, she would have thought about asking for directions, but may have decided not to considering the city she is in. So that leaves us with a possible 15-25 mile radius from her last known location. I think it best to divide into groups of two, have Oracle stay and update you if anything on security, and or traffic cameras happens. Bruce will be with Tony, Dick will go with Tim, and Jason will go with Damain to search within the area. Stephanie and Cassandra will search around a 5 mile radius near Wayne hotel." as Jarvis continued to explain the other details, the Batfam began to suit up, Batman met up with Iron Man, and they took the North area, Nightwing and Red Robin took the East area, while Red Hood and Robin searched the South. Steph and Cass were on foot in civilian clothes, searching the West area they were assigned.
They searched for the whole day, and came up with nothing. Until Oracle saw a video from a traffic cam around 9pm, 15 blocks away from where her phone died. She called it in and everyone went back to the cave. Once everyone was at the Bat-Computer, Oracle pressed play, the cameras didn't have sound, and it wasn't close enough to see if she was ok.
They watched as she went to an overgrown parking lot and sat down. She was looking down at the ground, and that's when they spotted two figures round the corner and spot her. They watched as the two figures approach Maria, and saw the startled reaction she had. They realized it was Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy that were talking to her, then they saw Maria collapse. They watched as Harley made sure she was ok, looking over to Ivy before looking back to Maria and picking her up. The last thing they saw, was Maria being carried away by two of Gothams' most dangerous rouges, but now they knew where to look next.
•—–· Back to Ivy and Harley ·–—•
Harley continued to take adorable pictures of the children.
"God, they're so f-ckin' cute!" - Harley for the 20th time
As Ivy continued to watch while caring for her plants, Catwoman walked in.
"Hey girls, got the stuff for movie night, so what are we- Holy mother of cats! He adopted another f-cking child didn't he! Where the hell does he keep finding them?! 7 was ment to be the god DAMN LIMIT!!!" - Catwoman
Maria jumped at the sudden shouting and may have accidentally summoned a yo-yo (one made useing creation magic and protection magic) before saying.
"Tikki where's the akuma?! How long was I out?! Forget it Tikki spot-" she then realized she wasn't in Paris, and seeing a new face, she also realized she just spilled her secret to another person within the same day... kinda
"Fffffffffffudge sunday that fell on the pavement!" - Maria shouted in baker profanities
"That's not how ya curse sweetheart. It should go more like-" Harley was cut off by a vine Ivy had summoned.
"Harley, cursing makes the plants sad, you know this." - Ivy said removing the vine
Harley just walked over to Maria and whipsered it in her ear.
"You're supposed to say it more like this, ' ..... .... ... .. ....... .. ... .....' ok?" - Harley ended with a big smile
"... I will never see this world in the same frickin' light ever again." - Maria
"ehh close enough." - Harley
"Can someone please tell me, WTH is going on here, on our special girls day off?!" - Catwoman
"She is a new member of the Sirens as of today, and as a member, she's unda our protection, so effective immediately." - Harley
"Cool." - Maria
"Harley." - Ivy
"Wut... first things first, if she is going to join, she needs to be very flexible, know how to fight, and be incredibly intelligent." - Catwoman
"She beat Ed's @ss with a gun pointed at her, and solved every riddle with ease, so I'm positive she'll be an amazin' addition to the team." - Harley
'God she sounds like a new mother now' "But we don't know how good her flexibility is." - Catwoman
"I know, hey Maria, ya wanna do some tricks with me, of course we need to stretch first, but do ya wanna give it a go?" - Harley
"Sure." - Maria
Ivy and Catwoman sat down on a couch a few feet away from where Maria and Harley stood in the empty part of the building. They started out with stretches, and to Catwoman's surprise (and Harley's delight) Maria copied Harleys streches perfectly.
"Ok, now that that's done, we'll start with some cartwheels, then move on to flips, then handsprings and so on." - Harley
Maria gave Harley a nod... and they were off... literally, Harley did a cartwheel into a handspring, and a few backflips, Maria executed it flawlessly. Harley did some more complicated gymnastics tricks, and Maria did it, Harley did triple backflips going into a cartwheel, into a summersault, and Maria did that perfectly as well. This went on until both Harley and Maria were slightly out of breath, both having massive smiles on their faces.
"Ives, please let her join, she's like a mini me." - Harley then hugged Maria and they somehow both tripled in cuteness as they both did puppy (or Puss In Boots style) eyes at Catwoman and Ivy.
"Sure Harley." - Ivy said walking over to give Harley a small kiss on the cheek.
"Okay... but she doesn't have a costume yet, and she still has to think of a name for herself." - Catwoman
"Is a mouse good, like a mouse themed costume, that or a Turtle themed one. What do you think Harley?" - Maria
"Mmmm, I like that with the mouse you can always toy with Cat, ya know, cat an' mouse stuff, turtle seems... weird even fawh Gotham, so personally I would pick mouse, just because of the cheesy jokes you could do." - Harley
"Very funny, ok then, give me a moment." Maria then reached out her hand, her eyes then started to glow an icy blue, and a small portal opened in front of her, she reached in and pulled out a small pendant necklace. After she put it on a small mouce appeared and greated itself, Marias' eyes going back to normal after closing the portal.
"Hello I'm Mullo, nice to meet you all."
"Omg omg omg, It's soooo f-ckin' CUTE!" - Harley
"Best to assume all of them are extremely cute Harls." - Ivy
"What the Hell did I miss in the week I was gone?!" - Catwoman
"Ehh, not much, oh but Iron Man did fly aroun' Gotham a few times earlier this mornin' like a madman." - Harley
"Oh sh-t." - Maria
"Maria are ya ok? That was ya first official proper curse in my presence." Harley said looking over to the girl.
"He's gonna kill me." - Maria
"Wait, what do you mean Marigold?" - Ivy
"... He's my Uncle, and I never got to text him I was ok, since my phone died before I met you." - Maria
"Hey, I'm sure he'll understand, now what are we watchin'?" - Harley
"I think we have more important matters other than movies at the moment!" - Catwoman
"Ok, Me Myself and Irene it is." - Harley
"No! You basically kidnapped Iron Mans' NIECE!!!" - Catwoman
"Technically, she fainted and us bein' the good Gothamites we are, decided to take her with us, to make sure she was a-okay." - Harley
"I'm ganna need more than just a six pack of soda to get me through this... Just put the movie on already." - Catwoman
Catwoman sat at the far left end of the couch, next to her sat Ivy, then Maria, and then Harley, Bud and Lou by their feet. All of them sharing one big blanket (Becuase if Iron Man did show up, or any of the birds, then Maria was in a protective burrito and they may not see her right away) and they started the movie.
•—–·–—•
"Oh god, the poor cow." - Maria
.........
"Hahahaha, he stuck a whole f-ckin' chicken head in that guys @ss" - Harley
"The poor chicken." - Maria
"Maria you don't want to see this part." - Ivy then lightly covered her eyes for the ehem, chicken extraction.
.........
"Anyone up for another movie?" - Harley
"That depends." - Ivy
"Any suggestions Cat?" - Harley looked across to the other end of the couch to see Catwoman already sleeping.
"She took her cat-nap already? Seriously?" - Harley
"... What about Pirates of The Caribbean?" - Maria
"I'm good with that." - Ivy
And they started the next movie, Maria was happy, it felt like when her maman and papa would sleep with her when she made a pillow fort. It was a loving atmosphere, it felt safe, and nothing could ruin it. Marias' eyes became heavy, and she leaned her head on Harleys' shoulder, falling asleep after a few minutes.
Ivy paused the move looking over to see both Harley and Maria sleeping, soon Ivy also fell asleep in the comfortable silence.
…………………………
Around an hour later Maria woke up in a panic, she had a nightmare, and kept looking around frantically for someone with tears running down her face.
"What's the matter hun?" - Harley said looking around to see if someone had gotten in. When she looked back at Maria she saw that she was crying.
"What happened?" Harley asked in a kind voice that was filled with motherly love.
"I, just *hic* had a bad dream that's *hic* all, I'm fine." - Maira said trying to wipe the tears away.
"You're ok, I promise nothin's goin' to happen to ya as long as Ivy and I are here, ok hun?" - Harley hugged Maria, and she could feel the girl let out a few more sobs, and quick breathes.
"Thanks Maman." Maria didn't even realize what she had said, it just felt natural for her to say it.
"You're welcome hun." 'Omg I'm gonna cry, she called me maman!' Harley rubbed small circles over Marias' back, and began humming until she fell asleep, she continued to hug Maria until she also fell asleep.
•—–· Back to the Chaos Bat-Cave ·–—•
"What do you mean she's with two of Gotham City's Sirens?!" - Tony
"Tony, calm down, I'll call Selina, she can talk to them and get this all sorted out." - Bruce
"Your fiancee is a Gotham Siren too?! Why didn't you tell me?!" - Tony
"Why isn't she picking up? And unlike some people, this family doesn't like outing our secret identities... on live TV." - Bruce
"Oh well excuse me for not keeping my secret identity a SECRET!" - Tony
"I'll try calling her one more time." - Bruce
"Bruce, it's 3am. Who in their right mind ever stays up this late.... aside from this family." - Tim with a giant coffee mug in hand.
"... I'll just call her one more time." Bruce then connected it to the Bat-Computer so everyone could hear.
•—–· Back to the Sirens ·–—•
Catwoman's phone is ringing like crazy, waking everyone up, including a tired, annoyed, and confused Selina.
"Wth does he want at 3 in the morning?!" - Selina
"Just answer it so we can keep sleepin'." - Harley still hugging Maria
"I'm putting it on speaker, so you lot can testify against his @ss in court, for disturbing the peace."
•—–· Over to Batsy ·–—•
"Selina I need to ask-"
"WHAT THE F-CKING HELL DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT A GOOD NIGHTS REST!" - Selina
"Oooooh, she sounds pissed Bruce." - Jason
"I'm sorry to call you at this hour, but we need to find a girl that looks just like every single one of my other kids." - Bruce
"Bruce... I thought we agreed that 7 kids was. the. f-cking. limit." - Selina
•—–· Back to the Sirens ·–—•
Selina looked over to Maria before muting the speaker.
"Do you want them to know you're here Kitten?" - Selina
"... I'm tired, I haven't had coffee, I have no filter, so f-ck it, act like you never saw me today, and let them drown in chaos. " - Maria
"I think I like filter less Maria." - Harley
"Okay." Selina shrugged her shoulders and then un-muted her phone, putting it back on speaker mode.
"Where was she last seen?" - Selina
"She was last seen with Harley and Poison Ivy, I want you to see if she's still with them." - Bruce
Selina looked over to Maria and Harley, both of them shook their heads with mischievous grins.
"I've been with them all day, and I haven't once seen a girl that looks like your kids. Now can I go back to sleep, and forget this ever happened?" - Selina
"WHERE IS MY NIECE!!!" - Tony
"Oh, hey Tony, didn't know you were there, don't know who, or where your niece is, but good luck trying to find her. Oh and Bruce, I'm shutting my phone off so you don't keep calling till the butt crack of dawn. And congrats it's now 4am. you owe me a lunch date, uh-ba-bye." Selina then hung up her phone and turned it off.
"That went pretty well if you ask me, now I'm going back to sleep." - Selina
•—–· Back to Batsy ·–—•
The room was silent for a few minutes before Jason spoke up.
"Does that mean that Pixiepop ran away and is even more lost now?!" - Jason
"Oh god, what do we do, what if she got hurt?!" - Dick
"What if she got kidnapped?!" - Jason
"What if she's with a big time Gotham Villain?!" - Dick
"... What if she got more coffee?" - Tim
"Oh Hell No" - Jason/Dick
"... Lets all go to sleep, and when we wake up, we'll head over to their base and double check. She could've just said that because I called her at 3am." - Bruce
"But my niece is still out there!" - Tony
"You're going to sleep Tony." - Pepper then dragged Tony to his room.
•—–· Back to Maria ·–—•
Selina went to a different part of the building, where Maria assumed the bedrooms were. Ivy had gone to the greenhouse to be with the plants, and now it was just her and Harley left on the couch, and she couldn't sleep.
"... Harley?" - Maria
"Yeah hun?" - Harley
"I can't sleep." - Maria
"Well, watcha wanna do till ya get tired?" Harley asked sitting up a little straighter to get a better look at Maria.
Maria gave a sly smile, and looked Harley in the eyes "Want to go free-running on the rooftops?"
"... Alright, but lets get some coffee, and a snack in us first." - Harley gave her a side hug, before getting up to go make the coffee, and grab some snacks.
After they had their coffee, they climbed to the roof of the base. Harley was in her outfit, bat in hand and ready to do some bonding.
"So, how does ya outfit work?" - Harley
"Like so, ready Mullo?" - Maria
"Yes Maria" - Mullo
"Ok, Mullo, Get Squeaky!" A bright light flashes, and when Harley could see again, Maria was in a dark gray suit, wearing black knee high boots, with a strip of pink at the knee, and black elbow length gloves with the same pink strip at her elbow. Her mask was a slightly lighter gray on the top part, and pink on the bottom. Her hair was pulled into two buns with pink ribbons that faded to gray, and to black at the very tip. Her jump rope around her waist forming a tail going just below the back of her knees.
"Just when I think ya can't get any more adorable. So what should I call ya?" - Harley
"You can call me Multimouse." - Maria
Soon they were racing and doing tricks off different roofs, they were really enjoying themselves. From one of the roofs they heard a commotion in one of the alleys, when they looked down they saw a man holding a woman at gunpoint.
"Not good, seems like he's got issues, probably lost his lover, most likely has additions to drugs and alcohol, and seems to be a little tipsy." - Harley
"I've got a plan." - Multimouse
…………
Multimouse droped a little way behind the guy, grabbing his attention while Harley got the lady to safety.
"You know there's a help center two blocks from here that would be more than willing to help you." - Multimouse
The crook just raised his gun to her trying to keep it steady as he spoke.
"Give me all your money little girl, or else I'll hurt you."
"1. That's not how you hold a gun. 2. That is no way to treat any girl. and 3. Instead of money, I'll give you my jump rope." - Multimouse
"Why the hell would I want your jump rope, that thing looks worthless." the crook lowered his guard enough as Multimouse pretended to hand over her jump rope, only to use it in a quick motion to dismarm the man, as Harley promptly knocked him out with one swing.
"Lets neva have ya at gunpoint again, okay hun? I'm afraid my heart can't take it." - Harley said while tying the crook to a lamppost.
"Sorry, but it was the best idea I could come up with at the moment, besides, any guy with a gun would feel like they have the upper hand if they're facing a random little girl with a jump rope, rather than Gothams' Harley Quinn with a bat." - Multimouse
"Sadly I'm just too popular with the kiddos on the street." - Harley
…………
They continued to stop a few more muggers on the way back to the base, and when they got back they peaked around the corner to see the whole Batfam plus Iron Man talking with Ivy and Selina.
"How much you want to bet we can get back out before they see us?" - Whispering Multimouse
"... Lets try hidin' in the kitchen." - Whispering Harley
As they tried to sneak by (still in their costumes) Selina just walks over and draggs them to the group.
"Here, now let me sleep!" - Selina
"Dang it Selina we wanted tah see just how long we could hide out in the kitchen!" - Harley
Selina did a double take now realizing they both went out.
"... You didn't." - Selina
"We wanted tah go free-runnin'! So what?" - Harley
"She could've gotten hurt Harls." - Ivy
"My suits magic, I am invulnerable to bullets, normal magic, swords, knifes, anything staby staby, and I can withstand any temperature in it." Multimouse said with a slight pout.
"Hold up, is she a magical girl?" - Red Hood in the background
When Selina let go both Harley and Multimouse went behind Ivy for protection.
"We can still make a run for it." - Harley whispered to Multimouse
"... Ok, I'll meet you on the roof." - Whispering Multimouse
Harley gave a nod as she slowly inched her wasy closer to the door that lead to the roof, as she saw Iron Man approach Multimouse.
"Please get out of your suit, we need to talk about why you're here-" - Iron Man
"Multitute!" - Multimouse
Harley then saw Multimouse shrink into dozens of tiny little versions of herself as her clones spread out in all directions, one of which was heading right for her.
"Wth, you never told us she could use magic!" - Red Robin
Harley picked her up, and slipped through the door without anyone noticing.
"That was great, but how do ya get back tuh normal size?" - Harley
"Simple, I just merge back with my clones." As she said this, all her clones came back, and she merged with herself, becoming normal sized again.
"Where to?" - Multimouse
………… So now The Batfam is trying to find many long gone Mini-Multimouses, and Harley seems to have disappeared with her. Harley and Multimouse are now running over the roofs, heading for Wayne Manor.
"So why are we going to Wayne Manor?" - Multimouse
"Because, Batsy will neva think of lookin' for us at his own home, at least not fawh a little while." - Harley
When they arrived at the Manor, Multimouse de-transformed as Harley knocked on the door.
"Ms. Quinn, Ms. Maria, pleasure to see you here, please come in." - Alfred
"Are any of the bat-birds here?" - Harley
"Ms. Barbara, Ms. Stephanie, and Ms. Cassandra are the only ones here at the moment." - Alfred
"Do ya think you can keep us bein' here a secret from Batsy?" - Harley
"Harley? What are you doing here with Maria?" - Barbara
"It seems that Ms. Harley and Ms. Maria are now playing hide and seek with the rest of the family." - Alfred
"Did someone say hide and seek?" - Steph
"Yes, so could we maybe try and keep this a secret from everyone else, please?" - Maria
"Sure, it was starting to get boring around here. We can all hide in the living room no one ever use. Barbara you show them the way, I'll get the food/drinks and boardgames." - Steph
"Is this alright with you Alfred?" Maria
"It's all right Ms. Maria, you can hide out in the old living room." - Alfred
"Thanks Alfie, ya the best." - Harley
"Thank you Alfred." - Maria
"Ok then, follow me." - Barbara
…………
In the old living room, Harley, Maria, Barbara, Steph, and Cass began to formulate a plan.
"Ok, so the best way for them to never find you is to have your phone off, stay away from any and all cameras, and show your face to no one." - Steph
"So, do you have anything in mind that you might want to do?" - Barbara
"Can we put them on a wild goose chase?" - Maria
Cass nodded to Marias' suggestion approvingly.
"I can hack a few traffic cams to help with that." - Barbara
"We can also throw in some useless hints, to throw dem even further off our scent." - Harley
"Good idea Harley." - Barbara
"Thanks, but how long do ya think we should make it last?" - Harley
"As long as Maria wants it to." - Barbara
"Then let the games begin." - Maria.
Day 9, July 15th Pixie
“Pixie is it? That’s what the media has been calling you,” he said in his twisted voice.
She growled, “One person is allowed to call me that and you sure as hell ain’t him.”
Look I am back! Hopefully with semi-regular updates as I try to finish this.
///
She had been having a bad day. An unlucky one above anything else. Marinette still carried luck from her days as Ladybug. But luck runs out. Especially when the old Ladybug holder had been spending so much time with a current Black Cat holder.
The bad day started with a coffee malfunction, her coffee machine broke. So she went to her favorite cafe. They were closed due to a break in the night before. She ended up giving up on coffee. Instead, she opted to visit work.
While Marinette mainly worked from home, she did officially have an office at Wayne Enterprises where she oversaw the JTodd fashion company, her mini-empire that continued to be commission only after all the years. Named after Jason Todd. MDC had died when Ladybug did when the original Marinette Dupain-Cheng passed. Now, this version of Marinette headed an up-and-coming fashion empire, overseen by WE.
However, while she was making her way to the office building, faith proved to have other plans for her. A kidnapping. By the one and only Joker. Fuck.
///
“Pixie is it? That’s what the media has been calling you,” he said in his twisted voice.
She growled, “One person is allowed to call me that and you sure as hell ain’t him.”
Her arms were tied back above her head as a bomb sat in the middle of the room equal distance from her and the Joker.
“Well, sweetheart that other person isn’t here are they?”
Knowing the answer she looked around the room, they were alone. Jason was nowhere to be seen. She was alone. She blacked out.
///
Blink. Blink.
“Looky here, it looks like the doll is finally awake again,” Joker said to an empty room.
She was tired, from just hanging there. She wondered why she wasn’t dead yet. Why was he keeping her alive?
“Oh no you look a bit sleepy again, what a shame,” he said as she drifted back out of consciousness.
///
Loud. Pain. Needle? Blood. Dark. Quiet. Sleep.
How long had it been?
///
Fifteen hours. She hadn’t been seen for fifteen hours. She was kidnapped. And he was terrified. Marinette always texted or called, she checked in constantly. At hour three he considered it a fluke, at hour five he questioned Adrien, at hour six he searched Wayne Enterprise, at hour eight he started searching the city.
“You need rest,” B told him.
“No, I need to find her!”
“Jay we are going to find her, I promise, but right now you look like Tim, you’ve been out here too long,” Dick joked.
“How the fuck are you joking at a time like this?”
“I’m just trying to lighten the mood a bit.”
“Fuck that shit, Marinette has been missing for fifteen hours, we don’t know who the fuck has her or where the fuck she is,” Jason was steaming.
///
Marinette vomited. What the fuck was going on? Cameras. The Joker was no longer with her. It was just the bomb and her. And now a camera, a camera with a blinking light. She was being recorded, probably live-streamed knowing Joker’s flair for the dramatics.
He was going to find her. Barbara could help. She would be okay.
“Jay,” she whispered, staring into the camera, “Jay.”
She repeated it over and over until she couldn’t. She said it until she couldn’t speak.
‘I love you,’ she mouthed.
He would never get it. He wasn’t able to read lips.
///
“What do you mean you can’t trace it?” Jason demanded to know.
Barbara said, “It’s bouncing off too many towers, I can’t find an exact location.”
“What if they’re moving?” Tim suggested.
“What?” Jason asked, refocusing his attention.
“Look in the video Mari is swinging back and forth, and she threw up, she gets motion sickness. That would explain why the signal is bouncing off a bunch of towers.”
“You’re right, that would explain it, but it would need to be something big. Like a truck. I’ll start looking,” she turned back to the screen.
Tim continued analyzing the video footage looking for clues. Perhaps trying to figure out what Marinette had mouthed. And Jason. Jason felt useless. All he could do was wait for an answer. Wait for a location. Tim had the video muted so Jason didn’t have to listen to her repeating his name. So he didn’t have to listen to her suffer.
///
Someone had apparently given Bruce the news of a breakthrough. He was back in the cave with Damian and Dick. Jason thought it was stupid that no one was out looking for her. But what did he know? He needed to take a fucking break. Bullshit. Everyone standing in the cave without Marinette felt empty as they filled Bruce in.
“What happens when we find her?” Damian asked.
“We rescue her,” Jason stated as the most obvious thing in the world.
“No Damian has a point, there is a bomb. If we do anything too dramatic it will blow. A truck that size has a large gas tank, that could take out half a city block. We need to lure the truck out of the city somehow,” Dick suggested.
“Do you know how long it has been?” Jason quietly asked.
“What?” Bruce prompted.
Speaking louder he repeated, “Do you know how long it has been?”
Everyone stared blankly.
“Twenty-Three hours. She’s been missing for twenty-three hours. She has been throwing up on live television for the last six hours. I haven’t seen her in over twenty-six hours. We need to rescue her as soon as possible.”
“We understand, but we need to protect the city. We can’t let that truck blow,” Dick reasoned.
“Fuck the city. This is Marinette we’re talking about.”
“Jay, we can’t just-”
“You don’t understand, I- We- She-” Jason couldn’t find the words, “She’s important.”
“We know she’s family.”
“She’s more than that. I need to save her.”
He loved her.
///
She couldn’t open her eyes. They were too heavy.
Everything hurt.
Where was Jason?
///
He stopped every truck he came across. But he didn’t need to stop the one in front of him to know.
She was there. He could feel it.
It calmed him, around her aura he was more rational.
///
An explosion shook the whole city.
Her body was in his arms.
She had no pulse.
Tears welled up in his eyes as he let her go to perform CPR.
As he attempted to bring life back to her he repeated, ‘I love you,’ over and over.
And then a pulse.
She was still alive.
She had a chance.
Red Hood checked Pixie Todd into the hospital ten minutes later.
///
Jason came rushing into the hospital five minutes later.
“I’m here to see Pixie Todd,” he demanded.
“Mr. Wayne, she is in surgery, when she is out it will be family only until she awakes.”
“We have the same last name.”
“While I won’t question how you know what name she was checked in under, I will say you yourself have confirmed to the media, you aren’t related to the girl. I’m sorry, we understand she is your friend, but you won’t be able to see her until she’s awake.”
“We got married, '' he blurted out, “last year we didn’t want the media to know. I just want to see my wife when she gets out.”
He lied effortlessly.
“Oh, I’m sorry I assumed-”
“It’s okay, I just would like an update on her condition.”
“Of course, I can go get her surgeon.”
“Hey, can you not tell anyone about the marriage?”
“Of course Mr. Wayne.”
She was going to be okay.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay so where were we?" she smiled turning and sitting back down with Fang.
"As Damian had asked are you in reality my biological child," Bruce took back control automatically.
"You can't be serious Brucie!" Jagged went and began to squish Mari's face. "This little ray of sunshine related to your broody majesty. I don't buy it."
"I am not broody Jared." Bruce defended.
"I'll believe that when Ladybug dates Chat Noir." he joked.
"So it is possible" Bruce responded with a straight face.
Now it was Mari's turn to laugh, "Not a chance. Ladybug and Chat Noir dating is as possible as Atlantis resurfacing." she finally stopped laughing. The Wayne's tensed as if they knew more than others about Atlantis. "I honestly don't know if I am your child. I have no objections to taking a paternity test if you want, but I already have parents who love and support me, but I am not opposed to adding to my family though." she again smiled like the sunshine she is.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng What the Hell!?!" Chloe screamed storming into the room.
"What did I do!"
"How are you trending and you never told me" she gave a mock gasp.
However it was not the same for Mari. "I'm what." She opened her phone and sure enough she was trending. "How did this happen?"
She went into the first article she could and backtracked, through the sources and timestamps. Then it all made sense. She was on the Ladyblog, an interview with Lila claiming she was friends with a Wayne. The media then believing her a lost Wayne which explains why she is sitting with the Waynes and them asking about her paternity.
"How did you not know. M."
"All my accounts are private and I've been busy. But this explains the reporters now huh."
"M you are ridiculous, utterly ridiculous" Chloe grumbled. She was now sitting on the armrest Mari was leaning against next to Jagged. "At least tell me you remembered to send the photos and interview." Mari sprung up, Fang having sensed the impending jump. "logged into my laptop" Chloe yelled throwing her key to Mari.
"Meet you at the hospital. 20 minutes. bye" she yelled as she ran down the hall taking the stairs faster.
Chloe and Penny got up followed by Jagged heading to the door.
"Whatcha wait'n for Brucie come on" Jagged called to the billionaire.
Slowly the Waynes stood and followed the others to the hospital, sharing looks and texts the entire time.
True to her word Marinette met with them 20 minutes later on the dot in the hospital.
Both Marinette and Bruce had a blood sample and a mouth swab taken. The doctor then came back an hour later with the results.
"Alright. By the genetic markers that were tested. I can say quite confidently that M. Wayne is the biological father of Mlle. Dupain-Cheng." The doctor handed them a folder. "I'II leave you to process."
Marinette didn't need long to process. In fact her only thought was, Well one more for the list. Everyone in the room was watching her. "Okay" she jumped down from the bench, crap. Forgot about that. Her smile never faltered but her eyes were closed a second too long.
In that second Chloe had taken her purse and was holding up a pair of athletic gloves. “Care to explain!” She held the gloves waving them towards Marinette.
"Um, Well, You see" Marinette started to mumble.
"Why don't you explain in the car" Penny came to her rescue.
"We'll get Pizza and have a Rock' n time" Jagged lightened the mood.
Everyone nodded, walking out Mari kept her hands in her pocket. She was putting on her second pair of gloves, Tikki in her hood, she needed to think and running always helped. Mari was only a few yards away when Chloe noticed, Mari spun to face her when she heard her.
"Red!" Chloe yelled. She noticed how two boys froze, Jason and Tim if she is correct.
"Goldie!" she responded, not missing a beat. She heard Chloe behind her.
"Cat." Penny stated.
"Bird." responded Jagged further confusing the Waynes as they neared the hotel.
Tim was the first who noticed the two girls in front of the hotel. Meaning he was on his phone mapping and timing the route.
"Pizza will be delivered in 10." Mari spoke as the other seven stepped out of the car.
The two girls went ahead of them, but instead of the elevator they took the stairs.
Half way through the second of three pizza did Tim finally speak. "How did you two get back so fast." Tim set down his Pizza as he began to gesture frantically. "There is no way for you guys to have beat as it is a fifteen minute drive and a 30 minute walk, 20 if you run. Wait how did you get there in 20 minutes with a detour." Tim surprisingly still had breath.
"The fastest way from point A to B is not through C." Was Marinette's response as she took a bite. Yet that didn't seem like a sufficient answer as her now brother's eyebrows were still knit in confusion, so she took a breath and said. "Free running, it's a great stress reliever." she finished.
"What did you hit this time?" Jagged gave her a semi serious look.
"I didn't hit anything," a pout on her lips. "The pigeon flew into me."
Dick started laughing "she is definitely yours B, I can say for sure even without that paternity test." Another two hours had passed before she noticed the time and bid everyone goodbye. She gave her number to her father and brothers, Damian begrudgingly because Dick put it in and gave it to Mari.
Her parents had closed early for a date so she was home alone. She went to the couch to sketch a few gift ideas for her newly extended family. She was finishing a semi formal coat with a hidden sling for a katana for Damian. He kept grumbling that if he had it, the way the sword appeared in his akuma form, and she is pretty sure Jason's jokes were more literal by everyone's expressions. When her parents came home.
"Bon soir Maman, Papa," she cheerily greeted them.
"How was your day sweetheart." her Papa smiled kissing the top of her head.
"I met a handful of interesting people." she really didn't know how to broach this subject.
"What's wrong sweetie," her mother must have noticed her be uncomfortable. She sat down next to Mari, and her papa sat across from them.
"Did someone or did these people hurt you." her papa's words began to ring with a hard edge.
"Non, nothing like that. It's just, um," bitting her lip then looking up. "Your not my biological father, are you?"
Her parents froze, and had a silent conversation.
"Marinette, your biological father is an important and busy man. Who has no time for children." Her Maman spoke gently and calmly. "His name is Bruce Wayne."
Okay hold up, she tilted her head empathizing her confusion. "He didn't seem to bad, in fact he has four boys."
"That was who you met today," her papa affirmed, seemingly surprised.
She nodded her head and told them what had occurred today, leaving out the akuma and her free running. When she finished her parents once again held a silent conversation.
"Why don't we invite him over tomorrow for lunch. While you show his boys around." her maman smiled.
"Okay I'll send them a message then." Mari smiled taking out her phone.
Tomorrow will be interesting.
But first she had to survive tonight.
Tonight Ladybug, Todd Tenko, and Emeraude Racer were on patrol. Meaning she had the evening with the Couffaine siblings. Since both were holders it wasn't uncommon for them to swap. Meaning Luka would either be Todd or Viperion, and Juleka could be either Racer or Kitsune.
They each knew what was their designated route, and because of the akuma sent earlier the chance of Hawkmoth striking again was less likely. Each one of the heroes went their separate ways and made their rounds. So when the three heroes went to their rendezvous at Notre Dame's bell tower it ways almost two hour later. However, she noticed she had a tail when she passed the Eiffel tower. So she called Todd and Racer to set an illusion and ambush at the bell tower.
When she stepped on the bell towers stopped in the center and so did her tail with four others, forming a 'v" behind her. Todd's illusion left a Ladybug in the center of the tower while she moved to an ambush point. Four figures swung in and stood at each corner, a Todd Tenko, Emeraude Racer, Honey Bee, and Chat Noir.
"Shouldn't all of you be in Gotham?" Ladybug asked for her.
That seemed to take the vigilantes in her city by surprise.
"We heard about the situation and we just want to help." Nightwing, she is pretty sure, spoke up.
Chat Noir scoffed, "huh as if we would believe that."
"Tt. believe what you want. That is the truth." Robin spoke this time. Interesting.
"Yes after being ignored and called liars for three years really builds trust." Honey Bee's hand curled on her top as she spoke.
Batman seemed like he was going say something, but she jumped down from her perch breaking the Ladybug illusion. As they watched her materialize fifty feet up, followed by Racer and Todd flanking her mere seconds later.
"Todd," her eyes never left the five in front of her as she spoke.
"What!" Red Hood jumped in surprise, "How?"
"Curious. But Todd," this time she turned. "can you drop Mirage." Her teammate nodded and the four illusions disappeared. "Do you need to recharge?"
"Already did LB", he smiled.
"Okay," she pulled out her yoyo, and a box fell out into her hands. "who wants a snack before heading back out."
"Me!" Racer rushed to the box pulling out a strawberry eclair.
It is almost a good thing she always makes eight eclairs for patrol. Seriously she makes two for those on patrol, but after Adrien always left them with one and ate four, did she start bringing more.
Before leaving to do a final sweep of patrol. The three Parisian heroes spoke with the visiting vigilantes.
"We could send them Pinky's way," Ladybug responded to Batman's ask for more information.
"Do you think that's smart?" Todd asked.
"Who is Pinky?" Red Robin stepped into the conversation.
"She is our civilian contact and reserve hero." Racer answered.
"Why isn't she a permeant hero?" Nightwing brought up the question.
"Her identity was compromised but and we aren't sure how many know. So she is kept an back up." she answered.
"Who is she and how do we contact her?" Batman demanded or asked in his case.
"She is Multimouse, her name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng." All of them seemed to flinch and paled slightly. "And she'll find you."
The three Parisians stood and left.
Yup, tomorrow is going to be interesting.
Extra:
“So was I supposed to find out the Wayne’s were the Bats on my own or would you have told me?” Mari scolded her boyfriend over video call when she got home from patrol.
“I knew you were smart but less than a day you really are a lucky bug.” He smirked at her.
She crossed her arms and glared at him.
“Okay, okay.” He rose his hands in surrender. “But how did you figure it out anyways?”
“Apart from Tim and Jason flinching when Chloe called me Red, Damian’s katana grumbles and Tt., Jason freaking out because Todd was on patrol with me, and all of them paling at my name. It wasn’t to hard to piece together after that.” She shrugged.
“You know you’re scary sometimes right?” He feigned chills a goofy grin on his face.
“You love me though.” She teased him.
“I know I do but I know to keep in your good graces.” He responded now completely serious. “By the way, why was my idiot in Paris?” '
“I apparently made headlines a a lost Wayne.” She waved. “Which has more truth than the media knows apparently.”
“You’re serious!”
“Turns out your idiot is my adoptive idiot brother.”
“So are you related to Dick or Tim?”
“Try Damian.”
“To Demon Spawn! How?!”
“Bruce is my biological father.”
“The bug is a bat. Great!” he rolled his eyes, “I knew you weren’t normal but this is ridiculous.”
“You aren’t exactly normal yourself.” She replied pointedly.
“Ya but you love me.” His goofy grin was back.
“Yes I do.” She smiled in return.
