Time to Go

Marinette had known since she was born that she was the only daughter of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul. She was also Damian's little sister, by three years.

When the strike on Ra's Al Ghul was taken, Talia quickly hid her away. Marinette knew her family's lives were on the line. She knew Damian would be on the front lines and prayed for his safe return. Although she knew she wasn't her grandfather's favorite, she still mourned his death. Damian seemed to take it especially hard.

Talia had told Marinette and Damian that they would be seperated for the time being. She needed Damian to go with his father to continue his training, while she picked up the pieces of the League.

"What about me, Mother?" Mari questioned.

"You will be on a mission, all of your own." Talia explained, "You're mission is to go undercover. You will act as a daughter of other people. This will keep you safe. Not many know of your existence, but I need to make sure all that wish to harm us, are gone."

"I do not approve of this." Damian snarled.

"I understand." Talia whispered, "I have folders for each of you with detailed instructions. Until you are in your new lodgings, you are not to open them."

Marinette nodded sadly and cried herself to sleep in her big brother's arms. She knew it would be a while before she saw him again. Talia gave them their moment. It hurt her dearly to tear her children apart, but Slade had to pay for his crimes. The League had to be rebuilt and become stronger than ever to give them both their inheritance. With Ra's gone, she would train Marinette to become as deadly as her, when she came of age.

Marinette smiled at the envelope in her hand.

'Another letter from mother. I wonder what my orders are this time.'

Marinette,

The time has come for your father to pick you up. He and Damian will pick you up in three days time. Prepare for his arrival.

Marinette smiled, happily. Lila had been a pain in the ass, as of late. Sabine and Tom took everything her so-called friends said at face value. They would laugh at the implications over dinner. Marinette would tell them all of the lies and how brainless the class truly was. They both knew that if Marinette was really bullying Lila, she could have done far worse. Tom and Sabine had disagreed with Adrien's decleration, but told Mairnette to keep the piece while they reached out to Talia. Only her mother's orders were absolute. If her mother said she could kill her, they wouldn't stand in her way.

"Maman. Papa." Marinette called out.

"So, what did the letter say this time?" Sabine asked.

"Father and Brother will be here in three days time to retrieve me." she answered.

"Well, let's start pulling you out of that horrible school and get ou all packed up." Tom laughed, "I'm sure they will be happy to see you."

'Damian, perhaps. Father; I don't know if he even knows of my existence. Surprise, Father.'

Bruce sighed, "What do you mean you have a sister?"

"It's just as I stated." Damian declared, "Mother has insisted it is safe to retrieve her."

"You've been talking to Talia?" Dick questioned.

"No." the young Wayne heir answered, "She gave us both instructions before we left."

Damian held up the letter.

"There are certain dates for me to open these letters." he explained, "Most of them coincide with our birthdays. Today is Marinette's; she turns fifteen."

"So where is she?" Jason asked.

"Paris, France." Damian stated, "She has been under watchful eyes and was assigned to live as a normal child. No assassin work. Grandfather wasn't too happy that he didn't have two grandsons. Mother taught her self-defense, but she helped out around, mostly as a servant. I was to ignore her if I saw her unless we were alone."

Bruce rubbed his head.

"I have already prepared another room, Sir." Alfred smiled.

"Please, don't let there be two of him." Tim pleaded as Bruce stood up and walked out of the cave to pack.

Marinette handed over her ledger of Lila Rossi to Bruce.

"The school needs to choose their staff more carefully." she spoke, "Tom and Sabine have tried stepping in with the Principal, but I bellieve the Board needs to know what is going on under their noses.

Bruce looked at it and quickly read through it.

"I agree." he snarled, "I'll be taking it with me to the board. I need to legally sign you out of that school, anyways."

Marinette turned to her brother and hugged him.

"I missed you." she whispered.

Damian said nothing, but held her close.

Tom and Sabine stood by as they watch the girl they help raise, reunite with her family. Marinette let go and realized they were holding something.

"We have a copy of all of the recipes we've made over the years." Sabine declared, "Both in the bakery and just for the house."

"Family eyes only." Tom smiled.

"Thank you." Marinette replied, taking it and holding it close to her chest.

"I will make sure it is handed over to our grandfather and he will keep it locked up and safe." Damian declared.

Tom and Sabine smiled.

"I need to take my stuff back to the school." Mari spoke up.

"Go." Damian replied, "Father should return soon. I will tell him where you are and we will meet you there. I will put your belongings in the car so we can leave immediately."

Marinette walked into class and handed her class books over to Ms. Bustier.

"Marinette, why-" Caline began to question.

"I resign as class president." Mari announced.

"What?" Caline whispered in shock.

"Marinette?" Adrien called out, "Are you okay?"

"Is this why you haven't been in school?" Alya asked.

Caline laughed awkwardly, "Marinette, I'm sure-"

"I will be leaving this school, as of today." she announced, leaving the class stunned.

"Oh, Marinette!" Lila called out, standing up, "Did I do something? I only wanted to be friends!"

"Yeah!" shouted Kim, "What the hell?"

"I'll be moving in with my birth father and older brother." Marinette stated, "Mother says it is time for me to go with them."

"Sabine kicked you out?" Adrien questioned, confused.

"Sabine and Tom are my guardians, not my parents." Mari declared, "My birth father listened to me. I have always had a keen eye for detail, as many of you know from asking me to design for them."

"Are you till going on about 'Lila stealing from you'?" Alya asked, "We know it was you who stole!"

Lila paled and sat back down in her seat.

'What?'

Marinette looked at Lila and smiled, "Why do you think Ms. Bustier doesn't want me to stop being class president? It's because I make detailed plans for all the school trips, fundraisers, plan the fire drills, and escape routes. I even know where everything in this school is, including the security cameras. I have kept a record of every lie you said sice you got here, where and when. My father turned the evidence over to the Board of Governers."

Lila's jaw dropped.

"If the cameras aren't working, then they'll just go after that gullible man. Pretty sure embezzlement won't keep him in position." Mari shrugged.

"Huh?" asked Nino.

"How many times do you think the mayor pays him to look the other way when Chloe's being a bitch?" Marinette declared.

"Excuse me!" Chloe shouted.

"Maybe Lila can lend you her hearing aids." Marinette retorted.

"This is why you're a bully." Alix glared at her.

Marinette simply smiled.

Bruce and Damian walked in. Chloe smoothed her clothes and fluffed her hair, quickly. She stood up and smiled.

"I'm-" She spoke.

"Your voice is like nails on a chalk board." Damian commanded, "Be silent."

Chloe closed her mouth and sat down in embarassment, leaving everyone speechless.

Marinette giggled, "You always did know how to make an entrance, Big Brother."

Chloe's jaw dropped.

'She's a Wayne!'

Marinette turned and smiled at Chloe, "Goodbye, Daddy's Little Princess." before turning back to her family, "Father, I am ready to return home."

"Very well." Bruce spoke.

All three of them left the class without another word. There was a lot they had to discuss. As far as Bruce knew, Marinette had no idea about him being Batman and Damian being Robin. She had grown up with some semblance of a normal life and he wanted to keep it that way.

The class looked at the door confused.

"Chloe?" whispered Sabrina.

"Shit!" Chloe screamed, slamming her fists onto the desk.

"Chloe, are you okay?" asked Kim.

"No!" she yelled back, "Do I look okay? So you know-You don't know who they are? Of course you Pea Brains, don't! That was Bruce and Damian Wayne. Which makes.....Baker Girl is one of the richest people in the world."

Lila sat in her seat, enraged.

'What?'

"What?" questioned Alya.

"They have more money than mine and Adrikins' family combined." she scoffed, "Her father could buy Daddy's hotel like it was nothing!"

"But-" whispered Mylene.

"Marinette is a Wayne." Chloe stated, "The Waynes own an international business and have their hands in everything. They are old money. Bruce Wayne practically owns a whole city and just doesn't wanna be mayor."

"What about her brother?" asked Alix.

"He's known for being violent and lashing out. He hates the press." she remarked, "One thing about him on social media and he hunts you down and sues you."

"That's illegal." Alya claimed.

"Sorry. Would you prefer to be thrown in jail or settle for a million dollars to delete what you have?" the heiress questioned, "The Wayne family is known for the high IQ and attention to detail, which means....we're all screwed."

The class learned that everything Marinette had said was true. Lila's lies were all exposed. She was expelled and taken to a juvenile detention center, ontop of being sued by various people. Principal Damocles had been fired, as he had zero authority to expell anyone. Their teacher, Caline Bustier, was fired for not doing her job. She never informed the nurse about Lila's illnesses or disabilities, so there was never any confirmation that any of those were true. She also never sent Lila any homework during her 'travels' and so she was far behind the class in her studies.

Chloe believed she was suffering the most. Adrien was no longer in school with her. The people that let her do what she wanted was removed from the school and she was being forced to sell clothes out of her closet because her mother was upset by how much she 'embarassed them' in front of the Waynes.

'Stupid Marinette! This is all her fault! If she had just acted rich, like me, everything would be the same as it always was.'

The class was in disarray. Not only had Ms. Bustier let Lila slide on so many things, she was behind on their lessons as well. They now had mandatory after school tutoring and study sessions. Adrien Agreste had been pulled out of the class due to his high marks. He was also at the level they all should have been at.

"Dude, how did you pass?" Nino asked, "We all listened to Miss Bustier! You're higher than anyone, including Max!"

"Well, I was homeschooled and Natalie was a tough teacher compared to Miss Bustier. Also, I wanted to be at the same grade level as Chloe. I sorta knew mostly everything, already." Adrien admitted, "I actually could have skipped a few grades if I wanted to."

Nino was surprised, "Would you be willing to tutor us?"

"I wish I could but the board made me take a test and Father demanded I answer every question I knew correctly." Adrien sighed, "I'll be going to high school and if I continue the way I am now, I'm set to graduate in two years."

They realized it would never be the same. Everyone else still had four or five years until they graduated. 

Bruce thought that another child would tip the balance of the manor, but he was wrong. It felt like all they had been missing, was her. She adjusted perfectly to the chaos. His sons insisted that Marinette learn self-defense, at the very least. She refused to walk in their footsteps and become Robin or any other sort of vigilante. It hadn't taken long for Marinette to be announced as Bruce Wayne's daughter and Damian's long lost biological sister. Marinette had taken Gotham by storm as Gotham's Angel and was designing under a new alias: Serpentine. She was taking the fashion world by storm.

Everyone loved having Marinette around, but Damian Al-Ghul Wayne knew better. Marinette was as deceiving as their mother. She looked innocent in everything she did, but her mind was a war zone. Their grandfather never appreciated her mind, but he had gotten some of his best stealth mission ideas after talking with her. He could see her slithering into every crack in their new home. She was flexible like Grayson, loved motorcycles like Todd, talked business with Father and Drake. She even won over Alfred, Brown and Cain with her cooking and baking skills.

Damian watched as Marinette smiled at her computer. The look at the screen, the smile; it was his mother's smile. He could see Gabriel stocks were plummeting after their reunion in Paris. Style Queen was barely hovering above water. For Marinette, it was never about becoming Robin. It was about ruling the world and she was going do it through fashion.

Damian would never tell anyone, but he was scared of his little sister and he would take it to his grave. The smile that would lead anyone to death: The Arabian Helen of Troy.

AU where Tom is basically Rocky Balboa but quit boxing after the events in the movies to live with his wife Sabine.

Maybe Roland didn’t agree with his drastic career change to a bakery. That makes their falling out much more plausible if you ask me.

Marinette has lots of hidden muscle that is defined by her suit - which would probably be more practical and have bandages around the hands and a headpiece. Tom would teach her boxing moves and how to deal heavy hits.

Ladybug absolutely floors Anansi, who hands over her akuma in respect (when seeing the boxing gloves her Lucky Charm gave she grinned). After, she offers Nora advice on boxing as Marinette, revealing who her father is.

The events in Weredad happen the same, except Chat Noir is much more beaten up and exhausted from the fight they have. At the end of the episode, he learns who her father is and gulps.

Tom gives Adrien lessons whenever he can because he cannot stand seeing the boy so skinny. Sabine just watches in the background, muttering something about a ‘Creed’.

Lila’s plot to expel Marinette absolutely fails because the fact that she didn’t get a concussion (or at the very least a broken bone) from a push from the daughter of a boxer made her tale hard to believe. Kim can contest since he got quite the injury in an arm wrestle with her years ago. Tom refuses to believe Lila since he taught his little girl how to do so much more damage to her opponents.

That day is the day that Lila reconsiders ruining Marinette’s life.

Chat Noir is much more flustered around Ladybug, and has to stop himself many times from asking her to fling him across the horizon. The Ladyblog catches his blushing and gets many comments about how many would be too in his situation. Marinette turns red when Alya shows her them.

One last detail I want to add to this AU is that Marinette has shorter hair for her convenience. I’m thinking it’s in a long bob, similar to Kagami’s, but it reaches no farther down than her shoulders.

Kagami also respects her for her fighting skills. Tomoe allows them to hang out together when learning of her heritage and parents.

Maybe this could lead to Adrien x Marinette x Kagami?

Summary: Your ex-husband (the biological father of your daughter) shows up when said daughter is admitted to hospital. Your current partner (and your daughter) put him in his place.

aka: stupid man gets verbally wrecked by a 17-year-old girl and a SAS soldier. Inspired by the time my stepdad and i roasted my bio dad.

For @the-californicationist 's Nameless Challenge! This means you have to guess which of the delicious war criminals I'm writing about below. (This has inspired a series, so you'll find out who I was thinking of when the second one comes out. ;) )

Your ex-husband stood at the foot of his biological daughter’s hospital bed, watching her tap salt out of the little sachet onto a piece of buttered bread. His face was full of condescension, and you knew yours was full of barely contained disgust as you stared at him. God damn the child support agreement that required you to tell him when she was admitted to a hospital. At least you had otherwise full custody of her, you’re sure your ex would’ve been murdered by now if you’d been forced to see him semi-regularly – either by you or your wonderful (deadly, military-trained) partner who hated the man in front of you almost as much as you did.

God, you wish he was here right now. Unfortunately, he was wonderful enough to have gone down to the cafeteria in search of lunch for the both of you – and something sweet to sneak back in for your little girl. He spoiled her rotten, and it made you love him more every time he did. 

“That’s a lot of salt,” your ex rumbled. If looks could kill, the stare your 17-year-old daughter levelled him with would’ve evaporated him where he stood.

“Yes. It is,” she spoke. 

Tap tap tap, she resumed shaking the sachet.

“They put salt in bread when they make it. White bread is about 3% salt,” he said. As if there was some important point your daughter was missing.

“I know. I’ve made bread before.”

Tap tap tap.

It was taking every fibre of your being not to laugh with sheer joy and vindication as your daughter, the blood of your ex-husband, so casually eviscerated him in the middle of this tiny white room.

“Which is to say, you don’t need to be adding salt to it.” You didn’t think the man could sound any whinier. You were about to step in, but your daughter let out a deep sigh beyond her years (definitely picked up from the soldier who shared your home) and threw the empty salt packet onto the bed tray.

“Tell me, why shouldn’t I eat that much salt?” Her arms crossed in front of her, your ex-husband looked to you for help. He would get none.

“Because… it makes your body retain fluid and raises blood pressure–”

“Correct. I am in this hospital because I have low blood pressure caused by a low volume of fluid in my blood. They give me the salt packet on purpose. I am prescribed literal salt tablets,” she shook the bottle in the man’s face, “because I need to raise my blood pressure up to normal levels.”

Silence. Blinking.

“So I am going to eat this bread because it is what the doctor ordered.” Her head snapped to you, with a chaotic glint in her eye only teenage girls could possess. The next words out of her mouth would stay with you until your dying breath;

“Hey, Mum. When’s Dad coming back?”

You could not fight the grin that spread across your face, the elation jumping in your stomach. A quick glance at your ex-husband’s sour face made it clear that your daughter’s point had struck true – You are not welcome here. I do not need you. I have a real father where you failed.

You opened your mouth to reply, “He’s–”

“Right here, love!” The warm, gravelly voice of your partner filled the room, your daughter’s eyes lighting up with his presence. He stopped to press a tender kiss against your cheek, passing you a toasted sandwich, before he made his way to stand over the shoulder of your precious daughter.

“And I got you something special,” he whispered playfully, “Don’t tell the nurse.” He pulled a poppy seed muffin out of the bag he was holding and placed it on the bed tray in front of her. 

“Sorry mate, who are you?” Your partner turned and cocked his head at your ex. 

Your man knew exactly who the snivelling creature across from him was. Your boyfriend was just deciding to be a little shit, and it was one of the sexiest things you’d ever seen him do. 

“Dad, this is Marcus. You know, the man who got Mum pregnant with me?” Your daughter’s voice was poorly disguised venom. 

“Oh, right! Of course. I suppose I should thank you for your part in creating my wonderful daughter.” He stretched a hand out to your ex-husband who, for once in his life, made the smart choice to shake it and give some poor excuse for why he was needed elsewhere.

As soon as he was out the door, you had your arms around your lover, pressing endless kisses to his cheek as your daughter laughed. 

“Did you hear what I said, Dad?” 

Your partner leaned down to hug the girl – his girl – tightly. He grinned.

“Every fucking word.”

I LOVE MY STEPDAD SO MUCH HE'S MY REAL DAD and my mother and he are truly couple goals. I was on the phone with him the other day when I asked if he remembered this happening. he let out the most fatherly cackle of pure, shit-stirring joy I've ever heard. It was magnificent.

Character Profile: Garu

Garu is a descendant of ninjas, and his main goal in life is to follow in their footsteps*. His training is often derailed by Pucca, Abyo, or Tobe.

He has the ability to clone himself and shape-shift, as well as super speed. He also has excellent balance.

Garu, as a character, doesn't seem to entertain nonsense and is completely dedicated to his ninja training. He also enjoys fishing, as shown in the show and multiple shorts. In Funny Love, he had a very shallow view of honor and his role as a ninja, doing things less because they're right and more because they'd get him a better reputation. However, he still did care for his friends.

The first biography is older than the second.

*Early bios state he's trying to restore his family name, but this wouldn't be mentioned again after the 2000s.

The website from 2006 would show a training center that Garu would be shown to use in the shorts. However, this training center would never appear in any season of the show, as he does most of his training at the Turtle Dojo under Chang.

This biography from 2019 is completely different from any of the previous biographies, and says nothing about his ancestry.

English translation: "A calm and powerful warrior with the goal of being knowledgeable, he studies magic to clone himself while practicing martial arts and planting green tea on the mountain with his cat, Mio."

Age: 27/12

Pucca is confirmed, in general, to have been born in the year 2000 and age like a normal person outside of the show. Since Garu is two years older than her, at her current age of 24, Garu would be 26.

In the show, he is still 12. He would turn 12 in the season 1 episode "The Cursed Tie" and remain that way for the rest of the show. In the shorts, he's at least old enough to drive, but since Pucca already drives a scooter, this isn't the best measurement of the characters' ages and maturity. In a naver post, he's said to turn 13 in the show, but since Pucca turning 11 was retconned, it's safe to assume that the case is the same for him.

Birthday: November 11 (Scorpio)

While his age hasn't changed, in recent years Garu's birthday was changed to November 11th.

Relationships

He is best friends with Abyo, and Tobe is his enemy. He's also good friends with Ssoso, but their relationship is never fleshed out. He has a romantic connection with Pucca and doesn't really have a relationship with Ching. Chang is his mentor, and the friend of Garu's deceased father. Mio is his pet cat.

Abyo and Garu, while both displaying different fighting styles, are shown to be good friends. He seems to be slightly annoyed by most of Abyo’s antics, but for the most part, he has a positive view of him and hangs out with him often. They became friends after fighting for 10 days, the battle resulting in a tie.

Tobe is his enemy. Tobe wants desperately to be better than Garu, and Garu wants desperately to be better than Tobe. Despite the game Pucca: Power Up showing that Tobe's dad killed Garu’s dad*, their relationship doesn't really seem to reflect this most of the time, and so this should be taken with a grain of salt. Despite being younger than Tobe, Garu always wins. Mostly because of Pucca's interference.

Ssoso is described as "Garu's friend from shaolin" in his most recent biography. In Funny Love, Ssoso doesn't really appear in many episodes and doesn't really hang out with Garu often. His relationship with Garu would seem to disappear completely in Love Recipe, as Ssoso was changed from around Garu’s age to an elderly man.

Pucca is a source of annoyance and distraction for Garu. Depending on whether you're watching Funny Love or Love Recipe, he appears to either hate Pucca entirely or care for her a lot, only disliking her affection because he's shy. While Garu is never confirmed to like Pucca in the show, In the shorts, they have a much closer relationship. They share a bed in one them and are often shown to be on dates or other romantic occasions. In one of the shorts, titled The Ring, Garu confesses his feelings to Pucca, melting down his sword to create a ring for her. In general, the shorts show him disliking public displays of affection more than Pucca herself.

In the 2017 version of the Pucca Club website, it's stated he doesn't hate her affection, and that he's just shy. While these bios seem to have been created for Love Recipe, the in-between style and mention of the scrapped character "Ronni Kim" suggest that they were created early in the show's development, and therefore shouldn't be attributed to the show (just to play it safe). Due to the fact this was hosted on the website at all suggests that they're at least mostly accurate. Accurate enough, at least, that they would still be seen as acceptable to display on the site.

His relationship with Ching only seems to exist at all because Ching and Pucca are best friends.

Chang is Garu’s mentor, and the closest thing he has to a father figure.

Garu's father is dead according to Chang's bio the 2003 VOOZ website, and his mother isn't in the picture. He tries looking for her in some of the comics. (Currently unsourced and based on word of mouth, as I cannot find these specific comics. This is due to the fact there are multiple different comics based on Pucca, and I don't know its title or when it was made yet.)

Mio and Garu are very close, as Mio is his beloved pet.

*Some people seem to believe that it was Tobe that killed Garu’s dad, but Tobe is described as "a little older than Garu" in his description on the 2006 Pucca Club website, and confirmed to be 14 in an (admittedly outdated) lore book from the 2000s. Garu is shown to be a small child when this happens, and since Tobe is only around two years older than Garu, it's a bit of a stretch to say that it was Tobe himself. You know what fuck everything I want to go on another ramble, it's going on this one instead.

So I decided that Jon is born 4 years after Marinette is taken, it gives time to Clark and Lois to mourn the daughter that was taken from them, they never stopped searching, not really, but still it effected them.

Superman can be seen every year, the same day just floating above Metropolis, staring out across the skyline, almost as if waiting for something, someone. He’ll be there after dark for a while too, before flying off somewhere.

It happens to be the same day Lois Lane and Clark Kent ask for a day off, it's the only day they will fight for, and Perry can’t really be mad, he can't fight them on that. Lois and Clark are his best, and it isn't his business why they don't come to work on the one day, but he has an idea why.

Superman will arrive back at the Kent Farm, there is Lois, Ma and eventually his boy. Jon knows that day is a sad day for his family, he would eventually know why, and when he does the world sees a boy with up in sky with Superman. On the same day, every year, waiting, watching, watching as the sunset, and flying away after dark.

When Kon is found Superman is rushing to find Lex once again demanding answers, because he has to be hiding his daughter somewhere. There's no way he didn't use his daughter to help make Kon, but the files only state how they looked at her DNA to help them map out their attempts better. Seeing where the alleles matched up and what hopefully could.

But she’s only referred to as the “natural born.” It’s beyond frustrating and for some reason they just can’t find her files. She only referenced like they have research to look back on.

And Lex won't tell them why. Why? That's a great question, but sadly no thinks to search any international branches, at least it doesn't cross anyone’s minds to as usually going out of country/jurisdiction didn't bod well.

All of Marinette’s files were written in French, never emailed, never translated, Lex wouldn't risk it. It came by hand carry, two copies until his clone project got taken. It didn't matter he still had the first, and if needed he was sure he could use her.

Now Marinette knew she was weird but everyone is a little weird. Her breath was a little colder than others sometimes, she could lift the tables in the shop, and look! Look Maman I’m not even wobbling this time! She could run faster than all the boys but only by a handful of centimeters, she didn't get hurt as easily as her friends. Yeah, she's clumsy sometimes but it’s fine! She promises…oh please she won't break her legs jumping from this high up.

“You’re a freak,” Chloé hissed to her once. Chloé never bothered her, not really, her words always washed over Marinette, but that. That stung, it stayed with her, it left her up late at night trying to ignore the echoes of the words.

She’s right her Papa is strong but he couldn't bend a metal pipe, he could break through a door with ease, possibly a wall but not what Marinette had done.

Marinette started to draw more into herself, she stopped talking to Nino, Kim, and Alix.

“I’m good thanks,” she’d say, going to a bench to draw instead. Eventually she’d just walk to the bench, and her friends would stop trying to get her to join. We're they ever really her friends in the first place then?

Chloé still tormented her, but when she was really feeling like being mean she just called her a freak. Disaster Freak had become the common name at some point. At least Socqueline was there for her, up until she had to leave.

Marinette should have done something, anything, other than cry, other stand around. And for the first time in years her insides burned with the same passion that used to radiate from her, it wasn't much but it was kindled.

Then she became Ladybug and she was like the star in the sky, something too bright to ignore, Marinette took strides once again. And she wouldn't let anyone hold her back again.

Marinette though tried her best to not let her powers be well known, only old classmates remember her uncanny strength, but that was chopped up to her father being very strong, how fast she was simply just her being small and surprisingly agile. Marinette is a very observant person, everyone knows that. Why are you questioning how she recognized you from across the courtyard with like 100 kids between you too, that's just Marinette cause she’s awesome and Marinette.

Alix and Kim get excited, well after their race at the beginning of the year, because Mars is taking things on left and right, she's stick it up to Chloé, she looks so much more familiar than she has in years. They invite her to race and it confuses other classmates, Nino just smirks and says a simple, “Watch.”

Marinette can still outrun them even with Alix on wheels, and she did cartwheels without falling behind.

Chloé calls her a freak once, and everyone is on her, they don't know how that word hurt her before but Nino, Alix and Kim saw it and they're leading against that the millisecond it happens. They don't want to watch Marinette go down that hole again, watch her curl up. But she doesn't this time, she stood taller, with calm anger said, “I am, what about it Chloé? Gonna have your dad put harsher regulations on metas?”

(I’ve always seen there being laws and systems in place for metas in Paris specifically, due to Hawkmoth)

Alya jaw drops for sure, her best friend is a meta, and she didn't tell her??? But after hearing Marinette’s reasoning and how Chloé calling her a freak affected Marinette from Alix, Kim and Nino. Like she can't bring herself to be upset with Marinette after hearing that from them.

Marinette probably got told she was adopted at the same time as her parents were like “we think you're a meta sweetie.” It helps so there isn't this bombshell to deal with after knowing she's a meta, they simply laid it out for her. Marinette main focus was the fact she was adopted for awhile before finally going, “okay lets look at meta-related things. Oh wow okay then.”

Sidenote based on the mathing I did, Kon is 7 years older than Marinette physically, and he was released to the world before she turned 9 but Damian had already turned 8. So this morning as I struggled to want to get up an AU came to me. I've been struggling on how to word some of this so bare with me.

This got longer than I thought it would but here:

Lois Lane and Clark Kent find out they're having a child later on they find out it's a girl, they're overjoyed and shit. But their relationship is on the down low, and everyone in Metropolis is convinced that Lois and Superman not only have a thing for each other but are together(which they aren't wrong). So when Lex Luthor finds out Lois is pregnant he comes up with a plan(cause his blad ass thinks he's so smart). And he does succeed.

Clark has to go off planet for [intergalactic problem here] and so he's gone for a few months during Lois’s pregnancy. So while Superman is away Lex is like ‘yes my plan will go so much easier now’ and so Lois gives birth, after she(the baby) is put in the baby ward thing, Lex steals their daughter. He gives her this serum that (in theory) blocks her powers till something triggers them. It does work but he doesn't know what will trigger it or how well it works.

He decides to put her as far away from them as possible on Earth tho. So she's in France getting adopted by the lovely couple who own a bakery and want a child. They can't due to biological complications, and Lex can watch them easily ( he knows French ig for this ). And they get to name her cause she doesn't have name.

So enter Marinette Dupain-Cheng the adoptive daughter Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng. There are some things they just can't explain about their daughter, they love her very much. Shenanigans my beloved, shall ensue.

But she's so small and doesn't have a lot of muscle how is she carrying this bag of flower at the age of 10? OH NO BOILING WATER GOT ON HER SHES GONNA GET BURN MAR- oh, she's okay...? MARINETTE DONT STARE AT THE SUN! They go to the doctor to check her eyesight, she has perfect vision. Marinette the fastest kid in her class, faster than Kim and Alix, they're playing hide and seek? Oh Mari is up a tree!

Back with Clark and Lois, Superman threatens Lex or talks to Bruce or something idk. Jon is made or born 2 years later(idk his story sometimes he's a clone sometimes he's not???!) when Mari is 2, then two more years later Con is born(I know for a fact he is born) so Mari is like 4. Bruce is doing the blood thing, but Lex has that shit under strict supervenience. And while raising the boys they learn what they should look for.

Tom and Sabine conclude that Mari is a Meta, talk to her about this when she is like 12, than when she is almost 14 she searches this stuff up and she's like “okay, no powers” well that gets thrown in her face when she was left with being Ladybug. Lex can't watch her anymore cause Paris closed itself off!

How being Ladybug affects Marinette:

She is still really strong even with that serum not letting her be at full strength so now that she has the Miraculous it enhances her already enhanced strength so she has to pull her punches, and this is one of the main reasons why she uses her yo-yo and her brain in battles rather than brute force, cause she could kill the akuma. At least she thinks so, who knows, depends on the writer!

Post [What-ever-the-fuck version of Gabriel we're dealing with]:

There are two ways this can go! 1) Mari during her time as Ladybug and Guardian activated the trigger so she could use all her half-Kryptonian-ness or 2) somehow it wasn't triggered yet but it was at some point while being around JL. Probably from being around Superman and her body went “FATHERRRRR”

And why Clark hasn't figured out this is his daughter after meeting her? Magic suit y'all! Prevents him from using x-ray vision on her, so he doesn't see her hybrid organs. One thing is for certain Bruce wants to adopt her! He can't of course cause she has already been adopted, so instead, he offers her a place to stay in Gotham, all paid, and any school of her choosing in Gotham. She says she’ll think about it, and when she researched she was surprised, and decided why not! She can fight villains, build her career, see what she can do with her new activated power, *cough* get all that pent-up rage out *COUGH*!

One big problem tho, the Meta and Magic users ban, so she talks to him again, he's like I'm willing to adjust my ban, then he does a double take cause “meta?” cause guess what Brucie, you wanna take in a meta-magic user! So he adjusts his rules.

Time passes, a long time depends, but Clark and Lois go to this gala being reporters and friends with Bruce. This gala is also Mari’s first. She's been doing great, other than almost burning her room in the middle of the night a few weeks ago. But it's fiiiiine, they're all learning, and Damian has his suspensions.

Clark was area of Bruce having another kid in his wings, and he does his x-ray things like he does all the batfam, and that's when he sees it! She wasn't human, she was part human. So he takes her Bruce, and is like “you can't have this child” “why tf can't I!” “this is our missing daughter!!”

So after the gala they all sit down and talk this out, they call Jon and Kon to get their asses here to see their sister! They talk to Tom and Sabine and they’re willing to share custody especially cause of how this happened! Anyway big family in the end.

This has probably been done somewhere but I needed to get this written out. I really want to write this, but if anyone does tag me please! PLEASE!

My Departure from the HH/HB Critical Community

Wowie. Another post! What could've thought! Anyways, I've been mainly dealing with outside issues involving OTHER reasons beyond it, not because the infighting or anything it's because no one in the community, outside or even inside can agree or be adults and civil.

To think Critic Community could have solved everything JUST by being upfront and handle shit behind closed doors is just some stupid shit, I came here to connect with other people who agrees with HH/HB bad pacing not act the same way as the Fandom acts. The fact that people have actively taken it upon themselves to shit talk others because why the fuck not? The fact I had people come into my Inbox to stir the pot, fuck off.

I am tired of being dragged into petty drama by grown ass adults who can handle the issues in private.

Why I am Leaving Exactly.

I've been dealing with on and off again witnessing DV between my step-dad and my Bio-Mom which stopped as he is no longer living here. I started criticizing Hazbin as a means to find new friends and a new hobby to distract it, but overtimes people have gradually been seen sneak dissing or even starting shit with the sake of causing issues.

There's been past instances where someone from the Hazbin Standom comes in and LARPs/pretends to be a critical community member as a means to GayOP us. I warned people this Cherry person might be that exactly. But what I didn't really anticipate for is my throwaway @throwawaylily101 to be subjected to the worst Infighting Critic Community I have ever seen.

I am tired of people dragging me into messes all because they cannot exercise the caution required to take shit said with a grain of salt, then we got people throwing out false allegations like candy over shit that no one GAF about, like come on dude, the world is ending. Who knows if HB/HH will still be around this year? Because the fact grown ass adults are beefing over clashing opinions is nuts.

Then there's the KF Haters. For starters... Yes I am aware that they doxx people, but sometimes you do realize doxes come from the people they find out about? Chris Chan doxed themselves, and so Viv has her info up. I usually put a hefty disclaimer NOT to harass other people NOT INVOLVED yet somehow I am responsible for FUCKING everything? I had someone used my GD against the Fandom to harass someone else.

Another thing is, I was sent lynch threats, RAPE THREATS, DEATH THREATS AND EVEN THREATS TO RAPE AND KILL MY NON-EXISTANT CHILD THAT I GOT FROM THOSE RAPE THREATS over shit that I said regarding the series. (By that I mean these weirdos would go into explicit detail on how they would rape me then get me pregnant only to kill that baby.)

The fact I have parasocial haters is ENOUGH, the fact I had to deal with people on Anon telling me to off myself, that my feelings are invalid was enough.

I have a eating disorder, there's NO food in the house and once again I do critic to TAKE MY MIND OFF THINGS, but no. The constant push back and infighting has ruined the one aspect I claim to actually enjoy. I don't understand why it's very difficult to NOT engage in content specifically not catered to you.

Overtime I realized the fandom shifted from criticizing to straight up wanting the creators and people dead for no reasons. I don't condone this, but like. STOP LUMPING me in with crazies I have no part in.

What does that mean for me now?

I won't be deactivating as I said before, this whole account was meant for other purposes and NOT just Critic, I felt like my existence in this community caused more damage then harm and I am further removing myself because I am done with being used to attack innocent people, I am done being in front of the mob because I hang out with people NO ONE LIKES, I don't come here to be controlled I come here to hang with a community and this community has became the VERY community WE criticized.

All this has taught me is that maybe the Standom was right, maybe all we are, are Antis with no staunch understandings on it, because all we do is yell about how something sucks and preach. But I won't think like that, because that's what THEY want us to think.

I still will be running @mammoncriticizes and @seraphinacriticizes but after this, pleasantspark will NOT be answering any asks regarding Hazbin or it's plentiful dramas. I am done entertaining the two communities when they cannot handle things privately.

Chris pointedly didn’t look at the very distracting gesture Kon made in response. Jerk. If he wanted to teach Chris how to use his tactile telekinesis, he could at least have the decency not to be rude about it.

Krypto let out a chuff from where he lay sprawled on the grass. Chris chose to interpret the sound as total agreement.

Kon had come home from Gemworld about a year ago, but Chris didn’t really bond with him until a few months later, when they decided to actually get to know each other. Turned out they had a lot in common: evil bio dads, spending years stranded in another dimension, coming back to a different Earth than the one they left, being friends with Tim Drake, et cetera. They became fast friends after that, even with Kon living on the Kent Farm aaalllllll the way in Kansas.

Oh, and they both had TTK. Telekinesis like Chris’s friend Kathy had, but cooler (in his totally unbiased opinion). Chris’s TTK developed last Thanksgiving, may that roast turkey rest in peace.

Kon had had his TTK for way longer than Chris, so he offered to teach him how to use it. Chris had accepted, so now they tried to meet up every Sunday for a lesson or two. Usually at the Kent farm, for safety and privacy.

Today was target practice. The goal: hit a small water bottle from thirty feet away with a marble. A difficult task for Chris, one which Kon was definitely not helping with.

Happy thoughts, Chris. Ignore your annoying adoptive cousin/brother/uncle/menace.

Chris took a deep, priming breath. He could do this. He lined up the shot, accounting for speed and trajectory. He concentrated his TTK at the back of the marble, ready to launch it…

“Bah!” Kon shouted from right next to Chris’s ear.

Chris jumped with a startled cry, and his shot went wide. The rogue projectile was shortly followed by a white blur in the air as Krypto went chasing after it.

Chris whipped around. “What the heck was that for?!” He threw his arms up indignantly. “I had it!”

Kon nodded. “Yeah, you did. Your aim was spot-on. You missed the point, though. I told you y’needed to focus.”

“I did focus!” Chris cried indignantly, “You messed me up!”

Kon shook his head. “Nope. Well, yeah, I messed you up, but that wasn’t focus, it was tunnel vision. You try to do that in a fight, and someone’ll throw you through a building.”

Chris crossed his arms with a huff. Stupid Kon with his stupid good points. “Fine, you win. Can we be done now? I wanna be done.”

Kon laughed. “Sure thing, Chris Bratt.” He ruffled Chris’s hair, ignoring his attempts to swat the offending hand away. “I’ve got a date with Tim later, anyway. Wanna go get ice cream before I take you home?”

“Yes!” Chris shouted. “Can I get the strawberry with that salted caramel on it?”

“How could I say no to you, y’little goblin?” Kon chuckled.

see, at the end of trials of apollo (i think it's the end, anyway) apollo says how estelle inherited paul's salt-and-pepper hair, and according to the pjo wiki, she also has sea green eyes. you know who else has gray and black hair and sea green eyes? percy. so i don't think it would be super out there for people meeting him for the first time, maybe at ahs, to see him and his sister together and assume that estelle's dad, who also has gray and black hair, is percy's dad too.

Marinette had to go to Gotham. Now you would think why are we even talking about this well the thing is tom isn't her biological father he is her step dad. Well who is her biological father you ask none other than Bruce Wayne. And the problem you see is that till she was 5 she lived with her father but on her 6th birthday he dropped her at her mother's house and never returned.

6 year old Marinette thought her father hated her and that is why he didn't want her there. Marinette started living with her mother and found out that she liked it here in paris with her mother and step dad.

Now she is 22 a successful designer and singer known as MDC and Nettie and her dad (that is her legal guardian jagged stone)was doing a concert in gotham and wanted her to be there.Now you might ask how this happened. Well liela rossi happened,when she was in high school everyone liked her because of her personality and behaviour but then this liar came and started telling lies and her classmates the bunch of morons that they are believed the liar over their friend even though many of them knew her from childhood. they started ignoring her and calling her mean things. At first marinette was very hurt first her father and now her friends. The only one that knew that the liar was lying was her ex crush and he advised her to take the high road the coward that he was.

So after her ex moronic friends started ignoring her she had much free time and started her own bussiness at first she didn't have many customers as the website was started by a newbie but then jagged stone announced that his personal designer was MDC and thus her business started blowing/blossoming this was 4 years before.

Somehow her classmates got to her parents and worse they believed it and told her to leave their house as a bully and someone who had disgraced them wasn't their daughter . This was the last straw for Marinette as everyone she had loved had left her except her friend Luka, jagged stone and penny Jagged's assistance .Marinette packed her stuff there wasn't much as she had bought a studio after her business had skyrocketed so she took the few things she had and left as she was leaving Sabine and Tom looked at her and for the first time saw that Marinette wasn't showing any emotion and was wearing something which had no pink at all and her hair was in a french braid she left without saying anything.

After a month of leaving her home jagged returned to paris as he was doing a tour and when he asked mari where to come to collect his clothes she gave him a different address which wasn't the bakery now jagged didn't know about liela rossi as mari didn't want to burden him but as jagged care for marinette as a daughter he knew there was something amiss in her life and he was waiting for her to tell him what it was.

When he reached the address mari opened the door and let him in as he was looking around he saw there was a kitchen and a room and studio he asked her,"blueberry are you living here?"

Hello Marinette Salt prompts!

After coming across a post that someone gave you an ask about the deconstruction of Maribat and how Adribat makes more sense, I (admin of Maribat Menagerie) took a look on the blog and wanted to commend you on the job you have done.

Maribat as a fandom tends to salt on Adrien's character a lot and make Marinette OOC. Adrien as a character already has enough parental trauma yet Marinette, who has a great home life, seems to get hers stripped away somehow and there are times when Adrien gets told off as if has no family troubles at all.

Adribat has a lot of potential for the Marinette salt lovers out there. For example,

Hawkmoth is defeated and is revealed as Adrien's father. Chat Noir holds onto the butterfly miraculous because Ladybug wants him to know that she trusts him. Ladybug and Chat Noir meet up to do their reveal. Ladybug goes on a tangent about how her parents could be as bad as Gabriel because of xyz from Lila. She claims that having Hawkmoth as a parent would not nearly be as bad as her parents believing a liar. Chat Noir is already disliking the comparison when Ladybug decides to reveal herself first. Seeing that it was none other than Marinette as Ladybug, Chat Noir's view shifts entirely. Marinette asks for the butterfly miraculous and tells Chat Noir that he does not have to reveal to her until he is ready. He refuses and backs away. Chat Noir pops off on Marinette for her dismissal of her parents and her audacity to say she would rather Hawkmoth had been her father. Once he has said all he has, he leaves Marinette up on the rooftop. Cue Adrien leaving Paris and ending up in some DC city with Marinette trying to manipulate the Justice League to help her get the Butterfly and Black Cat miraculous back.

There is other baseline potential for Adribat that feature Marinette salt.

Marinette Wayne (Bio-Dad Bruce AU) envies Adrien having a fashion designer father and says that Adrien should be happy about it

Justice League member of choice reaches out after learning about the Paris situation and only will talk to Ladybug because Chat Noir is not "mature enough" or "the leader" of the Miraculous so they only wish to talk to the one who has been through it all (aka Adrien relevance erasure)

Bruce Wayne comes to Paris undercover to investigate the situation and ends up trying to adopt Marinette because of a couple not-so-great Lila influenced moments instead of listening to his kid(s) that noticed the home life problems of Adrien (More of Bruce salt with added Marinette salt if she backs him up)

Ladybug gets offered a position on the Justice League, but Chat Noir is either not offered any spot at all or is designated to the Teen Titans/Young Justice instead

The classmates give credit to Marinette for Wayne Entreprises related events (class trip to Gotham, visiting Paris branch, etc) when Adrien is the one who reached out for Marinette because the Agrestes know the Waynes as well as Oliver Queen

Ladybug moves to Gotham, does vigilante type things, gets caught then tries to make it out to Batman and Co. that she was the only one to defend Paris, but little does she know that Adrien followed her (Perhaps Catwoman helps teach him how to steal stealthily and he gets a miraculous back from Marinette to make a point)

Apologies for how long this ask is. For those attempting to come up with a new way to do Maribat and make it flow a bit better, hopefully one of those helps.

P.S. I would love to hear the fellow admin's thoughts on any of these if they would like to. Adribat plus Marinette salt is always a sweet combination.

As someone who was cautious about any prompt involving Maribat, I (the admin of this blog) am grateful that you saw some of the prior prompts and chose to not come with pitchforks blazing, given the stance on this blog against the topic for salt-related reasons. And thank you for the commendations!

I do not know if I said this before, but I don't feel particularly against the idea of a Miraculous/Batman crossover. For what its worth the idea does have some merit, and despite the difference in tone and medium, I don't think that the idea is too far fetched given there has been more crazier crossover ideas than two franchises involving animal themed costumed superheroes.

However, I do take a strong stance against Maribat (as it currently is), due to the fact that the "genre" was created for, and is still strongly based on, the idea of creating salt against other miraculous characters one way or another. In all honesty, some if not most of the ideas created by Maribat creators do have some merit for interesting fanfic ideas, but they are largely utilised as excuses for salting on characters.

The idea of Maribat came across with the salty backlash against Chameleon, and the whole Damian x Marinette ship was made to cause as much Adrien salt as possible. Bio-dad Bruce Wayne is a bit out there, but it could at least be fun to read (especially if you consider they made a similar idea with Terry in Batman Beyond). However, the number of Maribat fics that take this idea without bashing against Marinette's parents (which itself makes no sense considering canon itself shows how much they care) can likely be counted on one hand. Did you read plumms stories???? Oh my God I I thought I was the only one who knew her work. Man if people here already send you hate, plumms would be cooked in here🤣 she had no fear. When I thought that story with Uncle Joel was the most dangerous thing she could ever write, she came up with that Dad Joel fic. But my favourite fic of hers was that one where they going to Salt Lake like canon (forgot the name). What was your favourite? Do a ranking, I'm curious

Ranking Pluums’ stories, that’s not easy. They’re each unique, and I enjoyed them all - unfortunately I know there’s a couple I’m probably forgetting.

Discussing of Joellie stories below cut.

Sunkissed - yeah, uncle Joel was my favorite of hers. I even told her in a comment that I wasn’t gonna read it, the idea of incest made my brain just brrzzt. But, because it was her, I was willing to try and dear lord. This was one story I really wanted the backstory to - how did it start, how long had it been going on, and prove my theory that Ellie was the one who initiated it - she was really feisty in this story.

Crack a Rib - I’m still on the floor over this story. The first chapter, describing the Ellie-sized hole in his body for her to just fit to, ugh, this is the kind of stuff I live for. And there was a perfect amount of Joel ridden guilt to make me scream

Future Days - we went a long time not knowing this was Pluums. I read this early on in my Joellie deep dive, even before I’d watched the flashback scenes from part 2. Of course after you read this story, you never look at the museum scene the same way

Baby Mine - this is a lot of people’s favorite, was probably her most popular, but with the story being hidden, we can’t see the hit count or the feedback. Again the idea of her being his bio-daughter made my brain buzz, but (for me) setting that aside - damn, this story was like watching nuclear bømb go off at the theme park. Dear god, that story was twisted and hot and we’ll never recover from losing that story.

I know there was another series she was working on where Ellie’s infection was affecting Joel - his aging was slowing down, so they could keep having babies. It was a two part series and she was working on the beginning of their relationship as well as the look in the future when they begin to realize what was happening - anyone remember the titles???

Did I miss any? Anyone wanna add any thoughts? (I can’t remember the SLC story you’re referring to) I hope she knows how much we love her work, how much she’s missed in the fandom, and that we all hope she’s doing well

Adrien bonding with the Gotham City Sirens is something I think I've only seen in like, two fanfics.

The first is a bio!mom Harley Quinn, bio!dad Joker fic, where Harley asks the Batfam to look after her daughter (Marinette) when she visits, because she's apparently coming to Gotham (class field trip) despite being told it was dangerous. Iirc, she and Adrien are either dating or have a sibling like relationship, it's been a while. Marinette obviously introduces Adrien to her moms and they end up bonding for a while. It was only one chapter, since the majority of the story is moreso focused on Marinette and her asking the Bats to help with the Hawkmoth or whatever he's going by, situation. And of course what the class is doing. The fic isn't done, nor has it been updated in a while, so there might have been more bonding there. I would have loved to see Ivy talk to Adrien about how her more dangerous plants liked him and slowly be the first to learn about him wielding the cat miraculous and thus, the powers of destruction (because we learn around the end of the chapter where Adrienette visit Harley that Ivy's more dangerous plants like Adrien while her other plants, such as flowers, were scared of him). Again, it's been a while, so take this summary with a grain of salt.

The other is a more recently discovered fic, and it's a dimension travel fic, where Ladybug and Chat Noir are fighting Monarch, but Monarch is winning. And as things seems to come to a bad end, Chat Noir manages to get the Rooster Miraculous back, but at the cost of breaking it. I can't remember how they entered a different dimension, if it was Monarchs doing or if Chat Noir managed to get some last use of the Rooster so they could get somewhere safe. Either way, they end up in a different universe, and more specifically, in Gotham. They decide to hide out but of course, the Bats find them. But they aren't able to find out who they are or where they came from, to them these are just some really beat up kids. Meanwhile, they quickly learn who the Bats are, thanks to: THE POWERS OF ANIMAL INSTINCTS!! Yeah, Adrien could smell them (Jason/Red Hood and Damian/Robin) and realized it was same smell. And while that's happening, Adrien also heads out as Chat Noir and meets Catwoman. Stuff happens, Selina manages to get Barbara to help her find out his secret ID, and they find out. Selina brings Chat Noir to where she, Harley and Ivy live and talks him into letting her help. He does and she reassures him that Ladybug won't be mad. She even lets him know her secret ID and let's him know she knows his, and then she learned they knew who the Bats were. Again, stuff happens. And iirc, she called dibs. You'd think I'd remember this one better, but I don't, which sucks because I love this fic.

Regarding Nikolai. it’s insane how the author and the fandom close their eyes and baby him. When he SA Alina, pushed her in a carriage so she could react, and then immediately gaslit her to think out was okay. He’s the one who actually used her and manipulated her to and succeed in getting the Ravkan crown. but the worst crime he has is the one where right after Genya tells him his father* and king is a rapist…..Nikolai rewarded the king. Nikolai covered up the king’s crime, made sure he received no trial at all, that no girls received justice, and to rub salt in the wound he gave the King a full expense paid retirement vacation with a “life full of luxury….safety” and even let the king choose where he would retire..oh sorry…LB calls it “exile.” So the King who never wanted to rule the nation, only wanted a life of luxury and attacking girls…gets a life of luxury far far away where he has no care or worry and he is free to attack any and all servants I’ve had in his luxury retirement. Leigh Bardugo should have re-read chapter 11 of ruin and rising. Rich white savior born with a silver spoon that manipulates, SA, and uses Alina go get in power let’s his father figure who literally SA’d genya and other girls go free and rewarded.

*father figure - publicly his father privately not really the bio dad And I call BS on the R&R proclamation that Nikolai didn’t know the king was a rapist. Nikolai was raised in the same halls, if the king’s reputation was so well known like LB keeps claiming it was in RoW then Nikolai would 100% know about it before he left for the military.

I have a problem with understanding Nikolai's actions.

It's caused by his moral alignment.

I simply cannot grasp how can someone put rules, established by other humans- therefore possibly faulty-, above preventing possible injustice. (Yes, I'm true neutral.) How can "a good" person be stopped by immaterial concept? If he believed there's some higher power, eventually judging all human actions, but he's an atheist!

What makes it more complicated, is his seeming moral flexibility. I'm not even halfway through Siege and Storm, and he doesn't seem bothered by lying, stealing, manipulation... is a piece of paper truly such a difference? Nobody wrote down rules about particular situations, so he can do whatever he pleases?

A bit of a hypocrite, isn't he?

I kicked him again. “Feel better?” he asked. “Next time you try something like that, I won’t kick you,” I said angrily. “I’ll cut you in half.” He brushed a speck of lint from his trousers. “Not sure that would be wise. I’m afraid the people rather frown on regicide.” “You’re not king yet, Sobachka,” I said sharply. “So don’t tempt me.” “I don’t see why you’re upset. The crowd loved it.” “I didn’t love it.” He raised a brow. “You didn’t hate it.” I kicked him again. This time his hand snaked out like a flash and captured my ankle. If it had been winter, I would have been wearing boots, but I was in summer slippers and his fingers closed over my bare leg. My cheeks blazed red. “Promise not to kick me again, and I’ll promise not to kiss you again,” he said. “I only kicked you because you kissed me!” I tried to pull my leg back, but he kept a hard grip. “Promise,” he said. “All right,” I bit out. “I promise.” “Then we have a deal.”

Siege and Storm- Chapter 11

This isn't gaslighting. It's another kind of manipulation, if anything. He's playing it down, but in his case I'd say it isn't caused by some malevolent intentions, but different view on the matter. He's playing a part. While he isn't repulsed by the idea of kissing Alina, he didn't do it for his personal enjoyment, but to cement their union in eyes of the people.

Alina, on the other hand, doesn't intend to become anything more than her own private person. She views the kiss only as a transgression against her.

Nikolai is a people-pleaser, who obviously displeased Alina. While he might be manipulating Alina so he doesn't have to deal with her anger, it might also be an attempt to make it better. Children often do this. I did a bad thing, but if we both agree it wasn't SO bad, it will get better.

His swift reaction outside the carriage was about preventing Alina to ruin the image he just painted. It's not hard to figure out she's quick to anger and much slower to think. He already tried to introduce her to the concept of being a public person. When pure theory fails, apply more practical approach?

This is another example of Nikolai "The Diet Darkling" Lantsov in action. Collar Alina to take over her world-changing abilities to end wars is absolutely despicable, while mere kiss to use her status of Living Saint for run on position of power's possible to overlook, because Nikolai's motivations are noble. I guess that's the difference between Royalty reaching for the Crown and serf reaching for the chance to live.

The rape confrontation feels weak and unsatisfying, thanks to NIkolai's lack of spine, or fixation on Ravkan law, depending on your POV. Apparently he acted according to their legal system. I have a half-written post on this, but since we're on the topic, I agree it's one on those examples, when law guarantees neither justice, nor prevention of future crimes, so instead of cheering for Nikolai's fairness, we're left upset with his decision.

Ruin and Rising- Chapter 7

Sure, it's exile, loss of power and prestige... but how is luxury a punishment? How is relocation to a peaceful place instead of constantly warring Ravka a punishment? And most importantly- how does it prevent the rapist from raping more servants? Or other helpless, young destitutes?

It's like sending a serial killer on a paid vacation, weapons of choice included.
