Because I am apparently addicted to angst…

Making the ‘Batman-Nightwing Identity Shenanigans’ way worse.

Now, they’ve got an agreement to conceal secret identities, right? And if one of them is somehow compromised and ends up revealing something, the other can be expected to cover…

Going for the angstiest scenario I could think of with that.

JLA mission, Batman and Nightwing on separate teams, Nightwing is injured. Apparently concussion – he’s kind of awake, but definitely out of it.

When the mission is over and the wounded are being taken for treatment, Bruce goes to check on Dick, who is currently a mess – and starts calling Bruce ‘Dad’.

Bruce, of course, covers by immediately retreating, though that makes Dick panic, and he’s calling out stuff like ‘Dad, I’m sorry’.

It breaks Bruce’s heart to just walk away as if he doesn’t care, but…well. Secret identities. Dick is clearly not in his right mind, he’s not making a real choice. It’s Bruce’s job to cover. He can apologize – or not – later, when they’re alone.

The wounded team members, including Dick, are taken back, the others stay behind for clean-up and talking to the authorities. Someone, probably Hal or Ollie, jokes about the kind of terror Nightwing’s dad must have been for him to mistake Batman for him. Bruce just glares at them, shutting them up.

Only…once they get back to the Watchtower, they find out that Dick’s condition is way more serious than first thought – maybe some toxin is involved, or maybe it is just the concussion being worse than thought and there is a brain bleed or something.

In any case, Dick is comatose and the chance of him waking up again is pretty low.

Bruce realizing that the last time Dick saw him might well be him walking away seemingly unbothered while Dick was apologizing frantically, crying and pleading for him to come back…

New rule: you can’t put angsty shit like this in my inbox if you’re not willing to post up and slam a 50k fic in the next ask so I’m not devastated 😭😭😭

I enjoy the idea of a younger Bruce (about early twenties) adopting Dick because I think it makes Bruce’s immaturity as a father figure more endearing. If anything, father doesn’t come into the picture until much later—it’s more of a brotherly configuration, at first.

Bruce takes Dick in because he sees the parallels of their situation and wants Dick to have a different future than him, but he doesn’t understand kids. So he lets Dick do whatever he wants; eat ice-cream at 3am, skip school, play whatever video games he wants, in the way your older sibling will sit you in front of the TV while they talk to friends or something.

He indulges Dick’s whims because he thinks that’s what kids should be able to do. He’s working off an immature, naive framework.

But then Dick becomes Robin, and things get real, fast. And Bruce realizes he has to take more responsibility for Dick. There needs to be limits and boundaries.

And Dick doesn’t understand the shift because he viewed Bruce as this older brother/mentor figure who was permissive and let him have the freedom to do what he wants. Now he can’t, and it feels like an invasion of boundaries instead of what it is; developing healthy ones.

So they fight. And bicker. And Dick probably throws in a few “I hate you”s that wound Bruce more than he ever thought possible. But slowly, they mature. Bruce prioritizes Dick’s well-being while still giving him what a kid needs and Dick realizes how much Bruce really cares.

And slowly, they grow to be father and son.

Needing some fluff/humor over the angst potential of Dick and Bruce not acknowledging each other's relationship to the League...

The thing is, everyone in the League is a professional nosy-parker. Sure, no one will out their colleagues, but you bet there is plenty of silent speculation everyone is indulging in.

So, they've got this new recruit, Nightwing - pretty good at the job, likable, cute. Only, the kid isn't...as much in awe of the trinity or the senior heroes as you'd expect from a teen/twenty something hero.

Not rude or anything, just...apparently long been seeing them as just people.

And there is stuff about the Watchtower or the history that he knows, but shouldn't, because he'd have been like ten when those things happened.

They finally come to the conclusion Nightwing is the son of one of the original members...

The clues they do have - treats gravity as a guideline than law, way too high pain tolerance, born charmer, perfect smile, can talk anyone into or out of anything, loves wearing Superman merch if ever caught out of uniform, knows multiple alien languages including kryptonian.

Also, Clark is going to be considerably less paranoid about hiding his fondness for Dick, because he assumes the secret identity connection doesn't count.

Then Hal checks some old records and comes across Nightwing as a name in Kryptoninan mythology.

The Justice League is convinced Nightwing is Superman's half-human son.

This is before Jon is born, so no one knows what could be the result of kryptonian and human DNA mixing.

Bruce is exasperated, Clark kind-of likes it, Dick is delighted at the potential for trolling.

Out of curiosity, do y'all think we're gonna get anything for the Global 3rd anniversary??

And for anyone who's literally just started playing (meaning you haven't played for a year yet), yeah, hi, our anniversary is in December, not September. We get the updates in September, but officially, we will have our 3rd anniversary in December. It should be December 7th iirc (if not within the first two weeks). Think of it as us celebrating twice if it helps.

Last year, we got Twilight Melody as our 2nd anniversary song, alongside Journey (which was the JP 2nd anniversary song):

I can't remember what happened with the first tbh.

So, I'm wondering if we'll get another anniversary song or something else.

I'm at a dilemma.

I want to tier again (nothing extreme, I've mostly tiered at 4k, my one exception being when I reached 2k I think, so around there). And I want it to be during a Tsukasa event.

I don't know if I should try tiering during his upcoming event (Filament Fever) or wait for the next (Seibai ItaAAAAAsu! iirc).

And just to give you an idea on where I'm at in terms of bonus energy (let it be known I start off with 30 bonus energy due to: the subscription I use and the extra 10 I get from ads; 40 if I manage to see I'm about to rank up and play enough so that, come the next day I can rank up and get another 10 bonus energy. And again, my goal is to reach around 4k, but generally anything above 10k is fair game).

While I don't think any of the batboys are bad cooks (although some are better than others), I do believe that Dick and Tim tend to just, forget a lot, and end up burning things anyways. So them being the highest voted on is pleasing.

In case anyone hasn't seen it:

Something to note is that I don't want to lump my shuffle units into a single category (idols, band, theatre, etc.), I want them to have at least two, a combination of at least one of their original groups and another one, if not both if everyone is from 2 different groups.

I haven't settled on names for all of them, but currently we have:

Nocturne Symphonies - Mafuyu, Toya, Mizuki and Airi, who I plan on having a mix of Nightcord's and MMJ's music.

I'm torn between Wilted Memories and Faded Melodies for Kanade, Ena, Minori and Haruka. They're also a mix of Nightcord's and MMJ's music.

I haven't made it final in my head, but something amuses me about the idea that a band made up of Akito, Saki, Shiho and Honami just being called Infernal (or Hell, if you will.) They'll be a mix of Leo/need and VBS.

I haven't figured out anything for An, Emu, Nene and Tsukasa (their music being a mix of VBS and WxS) or Rui, Shizuku, Kohane and Ichika yet (who'll have a mix of WxS and MMJ music, with probably a hint of VBS).
