I’m tagging this for the Joellie followers here - and we’re gonna work together to keep track of this because I’ve seen this conversation before and now I’m paying attention.

This morning is Monday, January 20. There are 460 stories uploaded in the Ellie/Joel tag on ao3. The highest I’ve ever seen it was 464, but lately the count has been in the low 450s.

The number won’t climb if a chapter is added, only a new story will trigger that. However, there are a number of stories in the tag that should be Ellie&Joel tagged and occasionally get removed when writers realize what the / tag actually indicates.

So, help me keep track of this - because I can’t figure out what’s going on. The ship/fandom is small enough as it is and we don’t want writers taking their stories down. Let’s see what we can see/do.

It’s also WIP Wednesday and while I don’t have a snippet to share, I can share my WIP page - well, redacted WIP page.

I went through my files this weekend and pulled out everything I started/outlined/drafted in 2024 and put it into a 2025 file. Currently (it better stay this way) I have 6 WIPs. It looks like this:

am i the one has 3 chapters drafted - actually near completion of chapter 4, with 5 & 6 drafted. My head is way too buried in this story and I know I’m thinking too hard, trying to make it “perfect.”

Shockingly, Learning to Walk Part 2 has a title! My plan is to re-watch a gameplay of TLOU Part 1 before diving into this. Also, while I’m not walking back the preview chapter, there’s going to be some changes, mostly to the timeline.

Living at the End of the World - this is probably where I’ll start. Most of this “missing chapter” is complete. Parts of it actually started out as part of the main story, but I scrapped it and just put the draft aside. Now that I have (a little) more confidence writing spicy scenes, I’m ready to finish and share! Plays on the idea of Ellie being insecure about where things stand with her and Joel after they’d slept together.

D&C - y’all, this is just domestic fluff. The whole gang from the series will - at some point - make appearances in Boston, including Bill & Frank! (Except not that creepy fucker Davis - no, he’s gone!) Again, I’m thinking way too hard on this, striving for “perfection” when it doesn’t exist.

Modern AU “one-shot” - I use this term lightly because it’s already up over 10k words, maybe even 20k but I haven’t looked in awhile. It’ll probably be a multi-chapter, stand-alone. It’s not Tommy/Maria centric, but Joel being where Ellie is because of this elopement.

Joel & Tommy AU - based on a song (not Taylor) that I can’t get out of my head. Most of the story is actually told from Tommy’s POV - something very new for me. It’s very angsty and sad.

So, now this means I have to sit down and put the metaphorical pen to paper! Questions? Comments? My asks are open - I would love to get into some discussions with my Cubs to help get me back on track!

you have no idea how long a chapter should be, so you just… vibe.

Currently experiencing this with Chapter 4 of “am i the one” - I’ve been overthinking it for months

you know you’re a writer when…

you spend 30 minutes choosing the perfect synonym for “said” only to change it back to “said.”

you google “how long does it take to bleed out” at 3 a.m. and now the FBI is probably watching you.

you write one sentence, stare at it, rewrite it 14 times, and somehow end up back at the original version.

“this scene is so important” but you have no idea what the scene actually is or why it’s important.

you come up with the best story ideas… in the shower… with no way to write them down.

your characters feel like real people but also you’re like “who are these guys and what do they want from me?”

your brain says “start writing!” but instead you reorganize your desk, reread your notes, and spend two hours naming a side character who shows up once.

you’ve cried over your WIP exactly 67 times and will do it again because the pain is the point.

you reread something you wrote and think, “wow, did i peak as a writer three months ago?”

every writing session begins with the sacred ritual of scrolling social media, opening unnecessary tabs, and procrastinating until panic sets in.

you have no idea how long a chapter should be, so you just… vibe.

you can’t watch tv or movies without mentally critiquing the plot, dialogue, and pacing.

your writing playlist is 98% vibes, 2% songs you’ll actually listen to while writing.

you keep a “murder notebook” but swear it’s not suspicious because it’s for your novel (probably).

the phrase “just one more draft” is your eternal mantra, even though you’ve rewritten this thing more times than you can count.
