Writing Notes: Poison Ivy & Poison Oak
Tumblr media
Poison ivy and poison oak - plants that cause an allergic skin reaction in most people who are exposed to them.
Poison Ivy - generally thought of as a climbing vine, can also grow as a shrub or bush.
It has leaves that are elliptical in shape and grow in groups of 3 on a stem.
Common in the US, except in the southwest, Alaska, and Hawaii.
Poison Oak - grows as a shrub
Has leaves that are shaped like oak leaves and grow in groups of 3 to a stem.
Common in the US, especially on the west coast from Mexico to Canada.
Symptoms
The symptoms for poison ivy and poison oak are the same.
Usually the first symptoms to appear are: itchiness and
swelling in the areas of contact.
The itchy rash that follows is made up of small pimple-like bumps (sometimes referred to as papules), as well as
blisters that later break open, ooze, and crust over.
In most cases, the condition goes away in 2 weeks.
Not everyone is sensitive to poison ivy and poison oak.
However, 9 out of 10 people who come in contact with either of the plants will have an allergic reaction to some degree.
All parts of the plants are poisonous and the amount of time it takes for an allergic reaction to develop varies from person to person.
The extent and severity of the reaction depends on the length of exposure, type of contact, and how sensitive the person is to the plants.
If a person is going to have an allergic reaction, it will usually occur within one or two days of exposure. However, some people have a reaction within an hour, whereas others don’t experience a reaction until 5 days after the exposure.
Causes
The substance that causes the allergic reaction is the same for both plants. It is an oily resin called urushiol.
It only takes a small amount of the resin to cause a reaction.
The resin can be transferred to the skin by directly touching the plant or indirectly by coming in contact with something that has touched the plant, such as tools, animals, or clothing. Although animals are rarely affected, they can carry the resin on their fur and transfer it to humans.
According to the experts at the University of Maryland Medical Center, the ‘‘chemical [resin] can remain active for more than a year.’’
Treatment
Anyone who comes in contact with either plant should wash the exposed area with soap and water immediately.
Taking a bath immediately after contact is not recommended, because that could spread the resin to other areas of the body.
All clothing, including shoes and shoelaces, should be removed carefully and either washed separately or discarded.
For minor cases, hydrocortisone cream and Calamine lotion can provide relief until the symptoms disappear.
Over-the-counter Benadryl capsules help with the itching.
Some people find oatmeal or baking soda baths to be soothing as well.
Oral steroids, such as prednisone, are available for more serious cases, especially those affecting the face, eyes, mouth, or genitals.
If signs of infection develop, such as pus and a fever, patients should contact their doctors.
Patients should consult their physicians before they use any ointments that contain benzocaine or zirconium, because they can cause an allergic reaction that worsens the condition.
Antihistamine ointments are not recommended for the same reason. The experts at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System caution that ‘‘some people have severe allergic reactions to these plants and can have swelling in the throat, breathing problems, weakness, dizziness, and bluish lips.’’
Emergency medical care should be sought if any serious reactions occur.
Prevention
The best prevention is know what the plants look like and to avoid them.
A common saying should be kept in mind: Leaves of three, let them be.
People who plan to be in an area where poison ivy and poison oak might be found should wear protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
Eradication of the plants should be handled with care.
As stated by the experts at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, ‘‘burning can be dangerous and is not recommended for disposal or as a control measure, because the toxic oil from the plant can be carried in the smoke.’’
Instead they recommend spraying the plants with glyphosate, which is commonly known as the brands Roundup or Kleenup.

Bleach Headcanons: Skincare
Who’s the skincare expert and who uses just soap and water?
Tumblr media
Jushiro Ukitake:
He doesn’t believe in flashy skincare, thinking it needs to be convenient, gentle and affordable. Think of brands like Cerave, Cetaphil, and La Roche Posay. He’ll probably have a trusted cleanser he’s been using for years (centuries?), a reliable serum, maybe retinoid based (gotta use something anti-aging at this stage) and a good, hydrating moisturizer (illness makes his skin dry and he hates looking that way).
Byakuya Kuchiki:
Can and will only buy the best of the best. A skincare snob. Even if there’s an amazing drugstore brand, he refuses to use it. SK II, Tatcha, and La Mer are all you’ll find in his bathroom cabinet. Of course he follows the 7 step Korean skincare routine. Cleanse twice, toner, essence, serum, moisturizer eye cream. Adds a sunscreen if he plans on going out. He will not compromise his routine for anything, so be prepared to wait for him as he goes through this process everyday, twice.
Renji Abarai:
He’ll pretend like he doesn’t do any skincare but he has his little stash of items he uses for self-indulgence. He enjoys wearing face masks (thanks to Rukia), which he applies after using a cleanser that’s trending, like from Tula or Drunk Elephant. The man somehow has balanced skin so he’ll use an everyday moisturizer like the Clinique Moisture Surge.
Kensei Muguruma:
He uses his body wash as face wash, and whatever body moisturizer he has on hand he uses on his face too. What’s the point after all? It’s skin. As long as it’s clean and not cracking, there isn’t a problem.
Mayuri Kurotsuchi:
He creates his own skincare but it’s kind of questionable. He claims his skin can tolerate quite a lot, so his skincare always has heavy amounts of acids in it; glycolic acid, salicylic acid, ascorbic acid. Top this off with a heavy dosage retinol. Does it work? We may never know from all the makeup he uses on his face. At least he removes all of it before sleeping (?).
Kisuke Urahara:
He also makes his own concoctions, but in a much less dramatic way than Mayuri. Grows his own ingredients, like oranges for vitamin C, mint for salicylic acid, and carrots for retinol. Think of his products like a  clean, organic skincare line that he wouldn’t sell to anyone unless he’s happy with it himself. He rarely buys commercially available products but the one thing he will spend his money on is sheet masks, they’re convenient and he honestly finds them tedious to make on his own.
Shinji Hirako:
He may not show it, but this man is very self conscious about his appearance. He has a mix of both popular and indie skin care brands. Think Belif, Youth to the People and Drunk Elephant. He probably regularly cleanses and uses a moisturizer, maybe something with vitamin C in it, since he can’t have people seeing the dark circles under his eyes.
Ichigo Kurosaki:
Essence? Toner? Serums? Isn’t a cleanser just soap? Give him some bar soap and a CeraVe moisturizer. He doesn’t have time to figure this shit out. There’s people that need to be saved and stuff.
Rose Otoribashi:
Yes, he knows the difference between a toner and an essence. He also thinks essences are a gimmick. Give him a balancing cleanser for his oily skin, and a toner with some salicylic acid in it to further help the oil. Add a vitamin C serum and a lightweight moisturizer and he’s ready to rock.

simple skincare tips!
🌼eat the foods that love you back. your skin is a direct mirror of your internal situation. if your digestive system is being bombarded often by foods that create a lot of wastes and residues, that does more harm than good. and so, the struggle to eliminate them will be reflected in your skin. your diet constitutes the vast majority of your skin health. change your meals to be whole food plant based (still delicious, satisfying, and exciting) & watch your skin glow and your skincare routine simplify.
🌼be conscious of what's going on your skin. the skin layers can be over-cleansed, imbalanced, and aggravated when the skin microbiome and pH are disrupted. if you wipe out the beneficial bacterial populations with harshly formulated products, you may find that you break out (i.e. harmful bacterial populations begin to thrive). use gentle, simple skin formulas such as castile soaps, natural oils & butters (i recommend jojoba oil for mostly everyone), natural soap bars, and clays. most commercial skin care products disturb the skin cells (introduce too much foreign material to the body, unsuitable pH ranges, imbalance the microbiome, etc). they sell because it's convention to buy them, the brands are well-known, and their sales pitches are enticing. but really, no cream or serum will ever be the magic potion your skin was asking for. it will only be a band-aid, at best. truly healthy skin comes from diet, and the products are just for any other necessary maintenance. if you get a pimple, you should look first to why the pimple emerged, not what treatment will remove it.
🌼keep your lymph flowing. simple ways to do this are through good lifestyle habits. things like doing exercise & sports you find fun, breathwork, dry brushing, eating lots of fruit, avoiding wearing bras & other tight clothing items, lymphatic massage/gua sha can all be helpful.
🌼focus on hydration via fresh fruits and veggies. the water within plant foods is more useable to your cells, and your skin will cease being overly oily or dry overtime (especially if you reduce/eliminate your salt & oil intake). it will also help to encourage lymphatic flow, so you can see problems like blemishes, cellulite, old scars diminish after great consistency.
🌼allow your skin to breathe. this is especially good if you spend time in stuffy (poorly ventilated) indoor environments, like offices, hospitals, planes, etc. one great way is via herbal facial steaming (i recommend it 3x a week or so). make a hot infusion of an aromatic tea, cover it and allow it to cool a few minutes, and, with closed eyes, allow the pores to open and receive the herbal medicine (this is a great time to meditate, manifest, and just feel pampered). getting more fresh air, working up a sweat, and going to a sauna are also ways to allow your skin to breathe.
🌼avoid steroid prescriptions creams at all costs. they are very deleterious to health in the long term, and they can be very painful to come off of. it's not a real fix. it's not worth hurting your kidneys & adrenals for. evaluate your diet instead. do you eat dairy? choose plant-based dairy options instead (they're simple to make yourself too). do you eat a lot of fats? try oil-free cooking methods instead (opt for sautéing with a bit of water, baking, steaming, air frying, etc). avoiding eating out as much.
🌼be aware of what you're putting in your hair as well. your shampoos, conditioner, leave-ins, gels, moisturizers, oils, serums, etc all tend to touch your face too, when your hair touches your face. if they wouldn't be good enough to put on your face, don't put them in your hair. a lot of the best skin cleansers are also suitable as shampoos. a lot of oils and butters can be used for both. plant-based gels like aloe vera or flax seed are simple to DIY, and are dual-use once again. basically, this will simplify your life.
🌼understand the water that runs through your pipes. if your shower and tap water are like most people's around the world, they aren't optimal for our skin. for example, they contain added chemicals to sanitize the water but that can prevent the proper microbiomes from developing on your skin. a weak skin microbiome is prone to skin issues. so, try to use distilled water on your face (if you're not able to get a water filter, a gallon jug at a store is affordable. they're about $1.30 USD in my area).

Cheapest Beauty Routine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We all deserve to feel beautiful and take care of ourselves no matter what background we have. There are so many beauty routines that recommend products that are so expensive and swear that you need to have a lot of them as well. You don't need the best that money can buy just feel more confident in your own skin! In this post, I'm going over everything from skin care, to exercise, to makeup. If you want to take care of yourself, but you don't have a lot of money to spare, this is for you.
Skin care routine:
Wash your face with a bar of soap - get some soap, lather it between your hands, rub it over your face, and then wash it off with cold water. If you have dry skin, you can get some soap that is moisturising, and if you have sensitive skin, make sure to get a fragrance free one. Make sure to pat your skin dry with a towel or cloth, don't rub it dry.
Moisturise it with a moisturising sunscreen - the cheapest one is from the cancer council. Make sure to put it on after washing your face in the mornings.
At night, use a general moisturiser - To make it cheaper, I would recommend a gentle body lotion or just general moisturiser that you can also use on your body. Make sure it's a gentle one though, as your face is usually more sensitive and fragile than your body.
Hair routine:
Brush your hair everyday - this is basic, but still important! Once every day is the minimum, but if your hair gets very tangled, you might need to brush it multiple times a day. Brushing it before your shower is also great, because it makes washing your hair easier and helps to prevent breakage.
Wash your hair with shampoo + conditioner - it's better to buy shampoo and conditioner separately, but if you're REALLY low on money or you don't want to focus on haircare, head and shoulders has a good two in one.
Air dry your hair - this will make your hair more frizzy, but you don't have to buy a hair dryer for it. If you really hate the frizz, then you can get a leave in conditioner or a anti-frizz serum/cream/spray.
Don't go to bed with your hair wet! - if you can help it. It will increase breakage and make your hair even more frizzy.
Wash your hair brush every three weeks - this is really important to make sure that your hair doesn't get too oily. You can wash it by soaking it in water with some shampoo in it for 5 minutes or so.
Shower routine:
Wash your body with the same soap you used for your face - you can use a separate scented one if you want to smell nice, but you don't have to.
Exfoliate with exfoliating gloves - use your soap and exfoliate your body with these rough gloves. It's the cheapest way to exfoliate without buying an exfoliating scrub. However, if you have eczema or other skin conditions like it, DO NOT USE THESE. You will have to buy a cheap gentle exfoliating scrub, because these gloves can irritate your skin condition.
Moisturise your body after the shower - use the body lotion or general moisturiser I mentioned in the skin routine.
Hygiene routine:
Consider using a soft toothbrush - did you know that there are hard, medium, and soft toothbrushes? I did not for a while ;^-^ but a soft toothbrush is better. It will make sure that you don't shave away at your gums from pressing too hard, and they are just as cheap as normal toothbrushes.
Floss your teeth at least once a day - floss is very cheap and it will make your teeth healthier and they will look better. If you hate using floss, you can get those flossers that have a handle which makes it way easier to use. They are still very cheap, but you'll need to refill them more often than normal floss.
Clip your nails every two weeks - clipping them fairly often helps prevent nail issues and keeps them healthy. You can buy a cheap nail clipper at a supermarket.
Moisturise your hands every morning + night - make sure you rub it over your nails as well, as this can also keep them healthy. You can just use the body lotion or general moisturiser in your shower routine. It's slightly better to use hand cream if you have some extra money, but you don't have to.
Use antiperspirant deodorant - antiperspirant helps to stop you from sweating, while normal deodorant just tries to mask the smell. If you sweat a lot, try mens antiperspirant.
Optional: use a body spray after getting dressed - spray it on and under your clothes, it will make you smell nice! You don't have to, but body spray is cheaper than perfume and you can find them in the supermarket.
Exercise routine:
Use YouTube to find free at-home workout routines - there are so many workouts on there, you will definitely find one that works for you. And it doesn't have to be a workout if you don't want that! You can do yoga, pilates, calisthenics, dancing, anything you want! You can even just put on your favourite kpop dance video and try to learn the dance! The point is to move and stretch your body at least 4 times a week.
Go for a walk every day - it can be short or long, it doesn't matter, Walking is great for your body and your mental health. You can walk with headphones and just play some music, or you can just take in your surroundings.
Healthy eating:
Eat more protein - the best way to do this is to make sure that your three main meals have protein in them. For example, you can have eggs for breakfast, a chicken sandwich for lunch, and a beef mince stir-fry for dinner. It doesn't have to be expensive and you don't have to buy protein supplements. Adding even a little bit more protein to your diet will improve your health.
Eat spinach instead of lettuce - or mix some spinach with your lettuce in a salad or a sandwich. Spinach is high in iron and eating more of it can make you feel less tired. It's also cheaper than buying vitamins.
Eat some fruit and vegetables every day - having at least one of each every day is very good for you! They each have important vitamins and minerals that keep you feeling healthy. You can get whatever ones that you like to eat, but if you're looking for the cheapest ones, bags of apples and carrots are pretty cheap and you get a lot of them.
Drink two bottles of water every day - this is the minimum! If you want, you can buy one of those water bottles that tracks how much water you should drink in one day, but I personally find these bottles too big and inconvenient. If you feel the same, you can just get a normal sized water bottle and just make sure you drink two of them. It's better to drink more, but this is a great start!
Optional
Makeup:
A basic and cheap face of makeup is concealer, eyeliner, mascara, and lip balm - it doesn't change the look of your face much, but it does make you feel a lot prettier and more confident in yourself.
You can get cheap nail polish at a drug store - if you want to paint your nails, it doesn't need to be expensive. You can also get cheap nail polish remover if you need it.
Fashion:
Thrift! - you can get some cheap hidden gems at thrift stores! You'd be amazed at some of the stuff people give away.
You can get some cheap jewellery at Target - and if you're in Australia, Kmart is another great place to get it. You don't need super expensive jewellery to look and feel great! The goal is not to look expensive, it's to feel more beautiful and more confident.
So there is the cheapest beauty/self-care routine that I could come up with! This is the rundown of the costs for all the beauty products, not the food products or the optional makeup and clothing (it's in Australian dollars, so you'll need to convert to your currency if you're not from there):
Soap (3 pack) $4
Moisturising Sunscreen (150ml) $16
Body lotion (100ml) $9
Hair brush $6
Shampoo (100ml) $10
Conditioner (100ml) $10
Exfoliating gloves $12
Soft toothbrush $9
Floss $4 (pack of ~30 flossers is $1.50)
Nail clippers $7
Antiperspirant deodorant (100ml) $5
Water bottle $15
TOTAL: $107
Optional:
Leave in conditioner $10
Hand cream $5
Body spray $10
TOTAL: $25
For an entire beauty routine, $107 or $132 is pretty good. And all of these products should last about three months. You'll only need to replace them once you run out, and some of them are just one-time purchases. If you're on a tight budget, this beauty routine makes you feel good and takes care of yourself without breaking the bank!

physical self care tips for folks who don’t have the emotional/physical capacity to do so
disclaimer: these are not going to work for everyone nor are they a cure-all. sometimes you need additional help or sometimes these just aren’t going to work for you. this is not me assuming that every single mentally or physically disabled person is able to do all these. at the lowest points in my life i wasn’t even to get out of bed for days on end and once didn’t brush my teeth for several months. but these help some folks, and that’s all i’m going for!
can’t brush/floss your teeth? mouthwash. mouthwash always. plus you can get it in fun flavors :)
- additionally: are physically capable of brushing/flossing but can’t find the emotional capacity to do so? put on a video/show you like in the background. it helps me !
- oh also you can get toothpaste in fun flavors too if that helps
- you only really need to wash your face like once a day with a fairly gentle soap. like even a bar soap or a diluted hand soap works.
- don’t wanna deal with acne and stuff? pimple patches are your best friend (but wash your face first)
- additionally, acne is normal and common. you don’t have to have “perfect skin” and it’s super rare that people do (and if they do, they most likely invest in a bunch of expensive skincare products and routines).
- don’t/can’t shower? deodorant on stinky/sweaty areas. your armpits, your neck and upper back (trust me on this one), your crotch area, all that stuff.
- or you can just use a washcloth. wet it, put some soap on it, and then rub it on stinky areas. make sure there’s more water on it than soap so that you can wipe it off with a dry washcloth after.
- if you don’t wanna take care of your hair and you don’t need/want to keep it long, buzz it. or just cut it short!
- alternately, if you want/need to keep your hair long but can’t take care of it:
- if you have a looser hair type, run through it every now and then with a brush or your fingers. if you’re able, run through it with your fingers at least a few times a day. running it under water for a little and then gently running through it with your fingers/a comb works as well. also, dry shampoo is your best friend if you’ve got oily hair. if you don’t want to brush/wash it often, keep it in easy to maintain styles like regular braids.
- for black/coiled hair types: i’m not black and have 2c/3a wavy/curly hair so i really don’t know much about this so please do not take this as if i have firsthand experience, this is all internet knowledge/from black peers. i always open to better information, please tell me if you have any! from what i’ve heard and learned black/coiled hair doesn’t need to be washed as much. keeping it short helps because it shrinks easily and means you don’t have to wash/clean it often. but if you want to keep it long, it can get dry easily. separating it into sections and then running through it with a detangling brush helps (a good option is the Spornette DeVille Cushion Paddle Boar Bristle 344). protective hairstyles mean you don’t have to wash it that often as well.
- some foods may not be healthy but if they’re easy to prepare and leave you sustained for some time, fucking go for it. as long as you don’t have any dietary/medical restrictions regarding them.
- foods like omelettes, oatmeal, microwavable burritos/ramen/etc, peanut butter on toast, tuna sandwiches, frozen chicken nuggets, bag salads, and mixed nuts are all easy to make and/or good sources of vitamins and protein.
- fatness isn’t a bad thing. you don’t need to work out or eat specifically to “stay in shape.”
- but if you do want to work out: i am not a physical therapist, personal trainer, etc. nor do i have much gym experience. listen to your body and consult legitimate medical sources/medical professionals. i am also not physically disabled. i cannot judge what is right for your body; only you and medical professionals can do that.
- remember to warm up and cool down. wear comfortable clothes that make you feel good. drink plenty of water!!!! and listen to what your body is telling you !!! if you experience pain/nausea, it’s time to stop for a bit and there’s no shame in that.
- simple workouts! focus on one specific thing, like flexibility or strength or something. walking/pacing is an easy one if you’re able to do that. listening to music while doing it helps too. - stretches are awesome. yoga is awesome. simple things that increase flexibility and don’t require a lot of physical activity are awesome. just a simple stretch now and then is rad as fuck.
- as always, laziness is a myth. sometimes your mind or your body just doesn’t want to do something and that’s perfectly fine.
- that’s all i can think of for now i might add more later

Hi' I think a few days/weeks ago u answered an ask abt cvtting over scars, and u mentioned that it was harder to keep heavily scarred areas clean. Do u have any advice for that, or is it just harder no matter what you do? And similarly, do u have advice for keeping areas that r cvt clean? Like I obviously don't want to b getting soap in my cvts/scabs when I'm showering but at this point I don't think I have fully/properly cleaned my thighs in like a year bcuz they've always got smth healing on them that I don't wanna get soap in, which is obviously not really good lmao.
And sorry if u don't wanna b giving advice/getting asks like this! U just seem very knowledgeable abt this stuff and searching online has only brought up "how to remove scars, nice clean smooth skin now" type shit lol. Absolutely feel free to ignore this if u want to or it makes u uncomfy /gen
hi hi!
So for cleaning highly scarred areas, you just basically have to be more diligent and careful. for my fully healed sc4rs, I lightly exfoliate and then wash with a soft, moisturizing soap after. then I moisturize the scars afterwards. I also put on a lot of sunscreen and try to keep them covered when the sun is out. highly scarred areas just pick up more dirt and grime cuz they are an uneven, oily, unpredictable surface with a bunch of dips and crevices for shit to get into. it's like one of my biggest annoyances with long term $H
for cleaning healing cvts, it gets complicated. for babies, styros, or fully scabbed beans I honestly would just wash my whole body in mild unscented soap (like dial) if you have a beans cvt that isn't fully scabbed, I would try my best to avoid getting soap in it, but it won't kill you. just be sure to rinse it well afterwards. then pat all ur cvts dry, possibly rinse with saline as well if if feel you need the extra security, and then put on some Neosporin. if it's beans and it's still open, only put on the edges of ur wound, not the inside. I would then cover them again if they're still open with nonstick bandages.
I know how annoying constantly having something healing is. if anything is deeper than beans, I honestly think you should try your best to get stitches and follow their aftercare instructions for that. I haven't healed anything deeper than beans since I started actually doing aftercare, and while I've healed things deeper than beans without medical help as a teen, I don't want to say how I did because it was irresponsible
also the products I specifically use for scar care are mostly from Lush, I use the Sticky Dates soap and the King of Skin for moisturizer. I don't have a specific scrub, I just get the cheap shit from Marshalls low-key.
for cvt aftercare I specifically use dial clear hypoallergenic, the same thing alot of ppl use with tattoo aftercare. honestly, if you don't hit deeper than styro, tattoo aftercare is pretty close to how you should take care of urself.
I hope this is helpful! Please feel free to ask any clarifying questions!

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maintaining good hygiene is essential for teenage girls and young women to feel confident, healthy, and empowered. Here's a comprehensive clean hygiene routine tailored specifically for us:
1. Daily Shower or Bath:
- Use a mild, pH-balanced body wash or soap to cleanse the entire body, paying extra attention to areas prone to sweat and odor, such as underarms and feet.
- Gently exfoliate the skin 2-3 times a week to remove dead skin cells and prevent clogged pores.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water to avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils.
2. Hair Care:
- Wash hair 2-3 times a week with a sulfate-free shampoo suitable for your hair type (dry, oily, curly, etc.).
- Use a conditioner after shampooing to moisturize and detangle hair, focusing on the ends.

Facial cleansing products and body wash 🚿
Hi everyone! In my last post I talked about skin types, the different characteristics of each, and the recommended types of products. In today's mini - essay I'd like to talk about skin in general, the different methods of cleansing, specifically body wash products, and why your average store body cleanser is probably not the best option.
As you might already know, the approach to cleansing should be different depending on your skin type, but keeping yourself clean is an essential factor, no matter what kind of characteristics your skin has. One of the methods to cleanse is through peelings and exfoliation. They are excellent choices for people who have thick and greasy skin, or problems such as acne.
Obviously, you shouldn't use just any scrub on your face. There are special exfoliating products designed for facial care specifically, which contain smaller scrubbing molecules, while exfoliating products for the body are bigger and rougher. What peeling and exfoliating products provide is basically removing excess dead skin, unclogging pores, and making the skin much softer afterwards.
Note : Exfoliating and peeling procedures shouldn't be done on a daily basis. Once a week is good, since doing this more often can result in skin that is too sensitive and easily irritated.
The next type of cleansing products work through attraction of dirt to the product. They are usually applied with a brush. Here we can talk about clay masks (White clay, also called kaolin), algae extract, charcoal masks (That are in a paste-like form), and zinc oxide. This kind of cleansing is very effective, deep and thorough, because it removes the excess secretions off the skin, such as sweat and dirt.
About body wash products
People mostly believe that the more foam a gel or shampoo creates, the better. It might give the illusion of a strong cleansing product. This isn't exactly wrong, but ;
Even though products that produce a lot of foam have a high cleaning efficacy, they also remove the skin's natural hydration.
They are very powerful when it comes to cleansing power, but perhaps too powerful for people that have dry or sensitive skin. They are the most irritant. Not only that, but they aren't particularly beneficial for any skin type, although they can be tolerated better by oily skin, yet the issue is that even people with oily skin present the most oiliness on their face, not on their body.
Therefore, very foamy products indicate high cleansing power, which might be effective in cases when you are very dirty, but if you keep regular hygiene habits, these products might just end up drying your skin too much.
We can also conclude that products that don't foam as much are better when it comes to respecting the skin's natural barrier ; They clean less that products that foam a lot, but this "less" doesn't always mean worse ; Like I mentioned, depending on your situation, you might need a powerful, foaming cleanser, but with a normal hygiene and a good, consistent routine, it is better to stick to less foaming and less irritating products.
Product recomendations for skincare
Cleansing milk is excellent for mixed, normal or dry skin. It adapts very well to the skin's natural pH, it is not irritant nor invasive. It's a good choice for sensitive skin as well, due to its gentleness. In addition, it makes the skin soft and hydrated, without feeling too greasy. You might see that some cleansing milks have hydrating properties too.
Syndet cleansers, or combo cleansers that combine soap and syndet. They are gentle on the skin as well, and syndet cleansers contain no soap, being a good choice for dry and sensitive skin especially. (Oily skin would benefit more from a combo, since it needs soap for thorough cleanse)
Oat cleansers. Oats are natural cleansers, so it's a good choice if you want to cleanse your skin while keeping things more natural. It has calming properties, being effective against easily irritated, dry, and sensitive skin in general. Oat products can come as creams and facial sprays as well, being effective for treating chronic dryness problems, such as atopic dermatitis or itchiness. Besides cleaning, it also provides the skin with a protective layer, maintaining it nourished.
Other products that I have personally used :
Facial products
- Sensibio Gel moussant by Sesderma
>It's mostly aimed for sensitive skin, and I use it because it's very gentle, contains no soap or fragrance and doesn't dry my skin out. It removes makeup pretty well too.
- Clarins Soothing gentle foaming cleanser
> It's aimed for sensitive skin as well, and it works very well as a cleanser. I noticed that you need very little of it to fully wash your face, even if you're wearing a bit of makeup. The skin feels very nice afterwards, which is great.
For face cream I use Nivea Soft, hydrating intense and refreshing cream. I mostly have dry / mixed skin, and this cream's hydrating effects last for a very long time, like I apply it in the morning and the whole day I feel my skin being very nourished. It's an excellent product if you suffer from dry skin or dry spots.
For the body
I have personal experience using Le Petit Marseille products. I believe their products are sold in pharmacies for about 4-5$ (I have the body wash gel with almond milk scent, and when I tell you it smells HEAVENLY) and they have other scents as well, such as peach and orange.
Their body wash gels don't contain that many ingredients, guaranteeing less possibility for irritation by other components, smell very, very good, and are gentle on the skin. They cost a bit more than an average body wash, but it is an investment so worth it for your skin.
I have used body wash products from InterApothek as well. Their products are sold in pharmacies, and the price is about 3-4$ I believe. The ingredients are 96% natural, and the products are fully vegan. I personally like their pomegranate gel a lot, it smells very good. I think this is a Spanish company though, I'm not sure if they sell these abroad (but it's so worth buying!)
Thank you for reading!

If we want to promote the boycott of is-not-reali products, we need to give substitutes and options for it.
Now, I also remember sisters asking me for my skincare/haircare routines, and I wanted to give a detailed article on that, but now it ain't about the time.
So, here, I'll try to compile these two topics.
Skincare that's effective without using any israeli/american product.
First of all, I don't have a skincare routine. I don't follow any step by step process. But, I do use products that help me keep my skin clean and hydrated.
And the most important advice I'll give to sisters is not to go for "skincare brands" that give pea sized products in bag size money. These industries are mostly scam. Always go for drugstore products. Those that are created for medicinal purposes oriented towards genuinely healing the skin problems. And if you don't have any active skin problems, don't expose your face to various products for achieving "perfect skin". There's nothing like that. Normal skins have occasional pimples, pigmentations, dark spots and uneven texture.
Anyway.
If you're going for drugstore products...
Go for phrama companies like Cipla and Reddy's Laboratories.
I personally use Reddy's Venusia Max moisturizer as my skin gets extremely dry often. If you have dry n normal (combination) skin you can use it. And if you have oily skin, go for squalane based moisturizers from Derma Co.
Next in line, if you want to use any serums, vit C is best for skins and there's a product by Cipla "Rivella Vit C and HA Serum" it's soothing, and effective. Alhamdulillah.
As a face cleanser or what you call as face wash, there are very brilliant new company products from DeConstruct that I love love love because they are so gentle on face and keep your pH balance and moisture intact (great substitute for Dove soap)
Then there's one more important aspect on skincare that's protection from UV...so you'll need a sunscreen. Go for Regaliz Truederma SPF 50. It's efficient. Alhamdulillah. Or Minimalist Suncreen spf 60 + Niacinamide incase you wanna go economically minimalistic. Derma Co Zinc Sunscreen is good too (one that comes in orange coloured pack)
Now, these four things are more than enough to keep your skin good.
Cleanser, Serum, Moisturizer, Sunblock.
Apart from that if you still wanna have some extra products...not from drugstore but excellent Indian brands...then Go for Pilgrim or Minimalist. They have best the ranges in every product.
And then comes Haircare...
Boycott Garnier. Boycott Loreal Paris. Boycott Head n Shoulders.
Go for St. Botanica. The Shampoos are sooooo great. Allahummaabaarik. SLS, Paraben Free, Actually formulated for cleaning dirt from hairs and reduce hair problems. Conditioners too are effective and they actually work as they advertise. If not St. Botanica, mamaearth would be good...but I didn't see it's results as best as St. Botanica.
For lipbalms though, you can go for Mamaearth. The shades are subtle and help keep your lips hydrated and avoid pigmentations. Stop using Ponds, Vaseline, Nivea. .PLEASE!!!! Their lipbalms do nothing but make your lips darker and greasy.
Makeup, I don't use tbh. But few years back, I had gotten a lipstick from MyGlamm and a Foundation of Biotique. They were good. You can go for it.
Bodywashes, Feet scrubs - Bodywise
Hair removal gels/creams - Sirona
Perfumes - Ajmal / Maison De Fouzdar are best. No doubt.
I'm sharing this post not to promote any sort of "self care" in this situation....but as an essential need of substitutes. Infact these substitutes are way better and effective than the Israeli American products we've been wasting our money on.
I have tried to mention most of the things used by women because that's the biggest market for Israeli products.
If you are an Indian, promote Indian brands 'cause we gotta "make in India" ;)
For that we need to use only that which is "made in India"
Go ahead...you can add anything else I might've missed. And yes...If any Mother's seeing this, let us know baby products that are made in India.

I’m sick and need comfort from a military man, here’s a sick!fic featuring my sweet angel Gaz 🥰
Warnings: sick!reader, Gaz is the best and nobody can change my mind. Emetophobia warning but is only briefly mentioned. Soap and Ghost are annoying lol
Reader’s callsign is Vulture!
Tumblr media
It started out with your bleary eyes, blinking open against the faint orange sunrise streaming through the window of your private barrack.
Your head was pounding as you sat up and tried to silence your alarm. 0600 was still a bit late for you to be awake, but breakfast wasn’t until 0700, so you still had plenty of time to get to the mess hall.
When you finally sat up, the ache in your back seemed to shoot directly up your spine, making your headache even worse.
“Fuck me, not this shit again.” You grumbled.
About a month ago, a flu swept through the base like the biblical plagues. Everyone got it— even Ghost, who almost had to be sedated before Soap finally convinced him to stay in bed and rest. It was rough on everybody, except for you. You managed to scrape by without any symptoms, much to your team’s chagrin.
Body aches, chills, sore throat, and an awful cough were the worst symptoms, but you’d heard of a few soldiers who tried to push through the worst of it and ended up nearly passing out from overworking themselves. Soap may or may not have been one of them, despite his hypocritical efforts to keep Ghost on bed rest.
Making your way to your private bathroom, dark circles had made their home under your eyes, and you were experiencing terrible cold sweats. Your skin was oily and you somehow felt even worse than you looked.
With coughs that wracked your whole system, you shot a quick text to Price, informing him of your current state and that you’d head to the infirmary before breakfast.
Unfortunate timing, Vulture, Price had texted back. Was hoping for you to lead drills today.
You rolled your eyes and send him the middle finger emoji in response, before getting dressed as comfortably as possible for your trip across base. As you pulled on a sweatshirt, a knock rang from the door.
“Vulture, you up? I’ll save you a seat in the mess, if ya’d like!”
Oh, Kyle. Poor, sweet Kyle.
You didn’t miss the way he grimaced at the sight of you, as you opened the door to greet him.
“It got me, Gaz. Call my sister, tell her I won’t make it home for Christmas.” You dramatically claimed. Gaz hissed through his teeth.
“You look terrible. Have you been to the infirmary yet?” He asked, concerned with your state.
When this sickness made its first round, Gaz was hit first. You did what you could, even making homemade soup in the private kitchenette in the 141’s rec room, and sticking by his side even when he was puking up his guts in the toilet.
“Was about to be on my way,” You moved past him, shutting your door behind you.
“I can come with, if you want? You took care of me when I was in the same boat, so let me return the favor.” Gaz followed you like a loyal dog, opening the door for you as you stepped outside, then handed you his sunglasses as he noticed you shut your eyes against the rising sun.
“Don’t worry about me, Gaz, I’ll be fine by tomorrow.” You promised, giving him a tight lipped smile as you departed towards the infirmary.
———
The next day, however, you were even worse. You couldn’t even make it out of bed, before you decided to take another sick day. Thankfully, there were no upcoming missions so for the foreseeable future, you would be able to ride this out in a semi comfortable place.
You’d been given the proper antibiotics, but it barely seemed to touch you at all.
Around lunchtime, as you were stuck between dozing off and waking up from those awful cold sweats, someone knocked on your door. You weakly called out and beckoned them inside.
You peeked your eyes open to see Soap and Ghost standing in the doorway, the latter of them armed with some kind of aerosol can.
“What the hell are you two doing?” You rasped.
“Oh, hen, I’m hurt! We just came tae see how yer faring, and this is the thanks we get!”
You sat up slowly, brows furrowed as you glared at both men.
“If you came to make fun of me, get it over with, please—and keep your voice down, Soap, my head’s killing me.”
“Spray down whatever you touch with this.” Ghost grunted out, tossing the aforementioned can across the room. It flopped on the bed next to you and you craned your neck to read the label; 100% Antibacterial Aerosol Spray.
“Thanks, L.T., this’ll do me a world of good.” You rolled your eyes.
Soap took a step into your room, his nose crinkling as he sniffed.
“When’s the last time you showered, hen?”
You whined dramatically, flopping down into your pillows.
“Unless you want to drag me to the showers, I wouldn’t complain. You smelled like a dog drowned in his own piss when you were sick.”
Ghost huffed a laugh at Soap’s reaction.
“Fine, we’ll let ye wallow here. Get better, bonnie!” Soap said in dismissal, closing your door far too loudly for your taste.
You looked to the spray can and snorted, kicking it to the foot of the bed as you curled back under the sheets.
It didn’t take long for you to fall asleep for good this time.
———
Three knocks at your door awoke you for the second time today, but it cracked open before you could get a word out.
Your eyes sluggishly opened as Gaz made his way into your room, his arms full of various shopping bags and a few takeout boxes.
“Wha’s all this?” You slurred sleepily.
“Medicine, some snacks, electrolyte drinks, and your favorite takeout.” Gaz smiled proudly.
Your stomach fluttered. “You didn’t have to do all this for me, Gaz.”
He waved his hand and made a face.
“Don’t worry about it. Just let me take care of ya, lovie.”
Gaz motioned for you to scoot over as he handed you a bottle of Gatorade, then began to unpack the takeout boxes. Based on the boxes, he went to three different restaurants.
“What all did you get?” You asked.
“I wasn’t sure if you’d be in the mood for anything, so I got options— pizza, Nando’s, and I went to that café you like and got soup.” He rambled. “I picked up some of the good medicine, not the rubbish they have in the infirmary, those are basically horse pills…”
The way that Gaz went above and beyond, even going off base to find something you may or may not even keep down— just because he wanted to. He could be running drills or shooting the shit with Soap, but he was here.
He stopped his rambling when he saw your face, the teary eyed smile plastered on your face.
“You okay?”
You huffed a laugh, wiping your eyes.
“Thank you for taking care of me, Gaz.”
Gaz sat on the bed next to you, pulling you close to his chest with an arm around your waist.
“Just returnin’ the favor, love.” He replied with a tender kiss to your forehead.
———
Ending was a little lazy, I’m currently fighting off NyQuil 💀
Hope y’all enjoyed! -Star

so beauty tips from me to you.
Animal fat = GOOD!!!
Healthy and beneficial for your body, skin, mind and overall health and wellbeing. Healthy animal fats will nourish you inside and out. Examples of incorporating these healthy animal fats into your diet would be swapping semi skimmed milk/ plant based milks for whole milk (lactose free if that is an issue), processed cheese swapped with real cheese and red meat/ poultry as protein in whatever meal of your choice etc. i know a lot of diets and health plans/ restrictions will prevent alot of people from eating or using animal products, i don’t blame you for this, what i will say is definitely do research on supplements and real substitutes that will provide your body with the same/ very similar nutrients. cutting these kinds of healthy and important fats from your diet can cause deficiencies etc.
Exfoliating in the shower/ bath:
There is nothing better than feeling, smelling and above all BEING clean, the best and safest way to do this is to exfoliate the dead skins and germs from your skin on a regular basis- by this i mean 1-2 times a week but not every day- to ensure healthy, bright, smooth and squeaky clean skin. You can exfoliate using gloves, scented sugar scrubs and or brushes or stones. i will admit my own faults with this, i have been known to over-exfoliate my skin, using harsh gloves, scrubs and brushes on an everyday basis which eventually caught up to me in sensitive, harsh and very easily ripped and cut skin, so don’t be like me.
on days where you do not want to exfoliate i recommend you start by washing your hair and then doing your body afterward to make sure no residue is left on your skin, potentially causing breakouts like bacne. you can use a soft and light wash cloth with a bar soap, then a liquid cleanser of any scent you prefer (i love coconut and milk!!!) and then finish off with an unscented cleansing body wash around your more sensitive areas, ensuring all soaps and washes clean your body EXTERNALLY!!!
Body butter, oils and moisturisers:
After showers while your skin is still damp, apply a body oil to your skin. i like using Bio-oil as it has skin healing properties like reducing scarring and *apparently* reducing the visibility of stretch marks. the reason is that oil will lock in that moisture in your skin, leaving you with a beautiful glow and silky smooth- and maybe you’ve just shaved too- this will also lock in that sweet sweet post shave softness all day long.
Once your oil is applied, you should go in with a scented moisturiser. if your skin is too sensitive for scented moisturisers or body butters i recommend using baby lotions, they’re a lot softer on the skin and there is a faint baby powder smell that will leave you smelling fresh without that added irritation. i recommend using a scented moisturiser that matches the scent of your body wash, for me that is coconut/ vanilla. this is to really enhance that smell on your skin and really make it your signature and ‘natural’ scent. lotion/body butter will also lock in moisture while adding in some beneficial elements of its own, i recommend applying some to your armpits and then spraying some deodorant on right after, to me this allows it to last longer.
Hair and skin
Get to know your skin and your hair, spend some time playing around with a mirror and analyse your hair texture, how oily or dry your skin is, what shape your eyes are, the length of your hair etc. All of these beautiful jigsaw pieces that make you uniquely beautiful, get to know them and understand them, this way you can correctly enhance their individual powers and create looks based on what YOU need. i don’t have much experience with curly hair as i have very straight hair, there are many blogs and websites available to tell you what hair type you have and how to care for it correctly. what i will say is using hair oils in the bottoms of your hair and a heat protector before applying head to dry/ style seems to work wonders for the shine of my hair.
as for skin, knowing your shade, how oily or dry it is, what colour of blush compliments your skin tone, what colour of eyeshadow compliments your eye shade etc will enhance your beauty by stars and stars!!! all of these unique qualities on your face are yours to learn and love, to build upon and allow to shine, these are all things that take time, experience, trial and error and above all, confidence to try. no one knows exactly who they are, what they like, what suits them and what doesn’t first try, it’s up to you to take the leap and also take feedback and constructive criticism- without letting people insult you- ask a friend what they think about your lipstick shade, or about your eyeshadow that day. sometimes it really does take a village to built confidence and understanding, even about your own self.
the last thing i will mention about hair and skin health and hygiene is making sure they are clean and free of harsh chemicals, dirt and grime for long periods of time. bathing and washing up frequently are important, double cleansing your face and removing all makeup before bed, and finally changing your sheets every 1-2 weeks- i know it is a task that is boring and time consuming but i promise it is absolutely worth it and so good for you. i recommend buying beautiful sheets and quilts that speak to you and motivate you to change them frequently- your hair, skin and overall hygiene will thank you for this.
That’s all for now sweethearts, let me know if you would like more of this from me or any beauty tips you have in the comments!!! i absolutely love hearing other peoples personal beauty secrets and advice!!! lots of love 🫧

any tips for hair care and skincare?
japanese and korean skincare for me personally. but it’s rly rly hard to recommend bc what works best for me, not might work for u. i know for me i have somewhat oily/to dry skin. parts of my face are oily like my Tzone, while the rest sits dry. i use joseon korean fermented rice mask and serum. but i think ill try their ginseng serum next, just because i think ive aged out of this skincare and want to further into something more hydrating for my age and lifestyle. i also sleep with a silk pillowcase with a copper/organic pillow. i use dr bronners castile soap and tehehehhh i splurged on myself at the beginning of summer and got trader joe’s brazil nut line, so the scrub, body wash, and oil. i like it. i use that or will use soldejanrio brazilian oil. sooo nice.
i also use a natural plant loofah i got at the farmers market. i use one as a dry brush and the other as a scrubberrrrrr.
i like japanese skincare too. also my diet is very pure and clean. i limit sugar (this might make a difference, might not) i don’t eat any fast food, ever. i don’t drink soda. i will have an occasional poppi. i drink red clover tea, parsley, and damiana and i think this cleanses my skin greatly.

Random thought
Michael must have Acne from wearing his mask cause it's making his hair oily, then it gets on his skin.
Then BOOM
He has insane acne that he needs a good skin treatment for it.
Every time he's looking at the mirror, he sees clusters of whiteheads and blackheads. He's trying his best not to pick at them, but he would've a needle to poke at the ready to burst ones, then squeeze them with a tissue to clean up.
Definitely in need of a really good skin treatment for his poor face.
Would have an s/o who knows the skin care routine to help him with. Acne cream, mud masks, charcoal masks, cleansers, pore strips, etc, he be looking better
I don't have a skin care routine, only hot showers to open pores and used soap to wash. But I throw in ance creams there and put on a pore stip and the occasional mask cream for my face.
