In my area you're required 2 years of a language course

Most kids take it but do the bare minimum or just don't remember it. Usually you grow up knowing that language/being taught it young. Sometimes we learn jt in school and remember enough to keep taking to learn and remember. We usually offer use it or lose it languages, which most kids don't use it and then they lose it and then no one speaks other languages

Huh! That makes sense, actually, i feel like 2 years is not nearly enough to retain enough knowledge, and not even enough to learn a lot. I think when i started studying italian in 4th grade, we didn't even get to subjunctives by the time i was 8th grade, and subjunctives are a surprisingly common form. At least to the way I speak. And even among those who took the elective third language, i know a lot of folks who don't remember a thing about it, i'm assuming because even four years of a once-per-week class isn't enough for retention.

Well, it's sad, at least to me who is linguistically inclined. Quot linguas calles tot homines vales is something i take personally lololol but right! I guess it's the sort of inertion that happens to speakers of a lingua franca, there's no "need" to learn a foreign language, so even those who are talented for languages might never find out :/

Well, I hope thanks to globalisation, at least those who like foreign languages can find ways to learn even outside of formal schooling :>

Goldilocks and the three bears crime family au

This au focuses on Baby and Goldi and is based off the part in Shrek 1 where we see the three bears in separate cages and then Mama later as a rug (rip you already know what happened to her)

The three bears got caught in Farquaad's fairytale purge and got separated. Crying in that cage was the last time Baby saw his parents. He's not sure what happened to them, but he got sold off to a circus bc everyone likes seeing baby animals do tricks, it makes good money. While he was there, he met a little orphan girl who was about his age in human years, five or six. She was also picked up because she made lots of money; she sold candy to people in the stands. No one wants to turn down a little girl!

They became fast friends. Goldi would wiggle between the bars of his cage at night and whisper stories of people she saw in the crowd and things she could remember of her parents. She liked telling stories about them. Baby didn't like to think about his parents, it made him cry, so he just made little quiet noises and pressed their heads together. They would fall asleep curled up around each other.

Fast forward several years, they're both preteens and have moved up in the circus. Baby learned english and Gold learned quite a bit of bear. She lost her baby face and was useless at selling treats now; she was going to get replaced but she begged to stay. Baby knew that she hated it there and was constantly thinking of ways to escape so it was obvious the only reason she stayed was for him. The ringmaster noticed their connection and put them in an act together. Goldi did flips and cartwheels on his back while they ran around the ring. They also came up with a plan where before and after shows, they would stand outside the tent and people could pay to pet Baby's nose. The idea was to save the money and strike out on their own when they had enough. They may have reached this goal a bit quicker than they should have due to many wallets falling victim to Goldi's sticky fingers.

Finally, sixteen years old, they decide today is the day. Their act has become much more complicated now and involves hoops and fire and all sorts of nail-biting objects. Halfway through the act, Goldi grabs a torch and announces they have had enough of being other's playthings and they're going to live their own lives. Baby rises up to his full height and with Goldi on his shoulders, they set fire to the tent. It's panic, it's mayhem, it's screaming and trampling crowds and bearing teeth and not being scared of whips or chains or anything else in the world. It's pure freedom. They run out off the circus grounds before anyone can properly stop them, laughing and cheering the whole way.

Here's where it starts to tie into the movie again (dw i didn't forget abt that lol) After the initial euphoria wore off, they decided to be professional criminals. They do a bunch of small scale stuff but they're pretty recognizable so it's hard to hit the same place twice. When they learn about the map to the wishing star, they absolutely must have it. It's at this point that they start to drift apart a bit. Goldi says they'll use the wish but secretly wants it to get her parents back. Baby is suspicious, she does talk about her parents more and more these days, but can't prove anything so he just goes with it.

Eventually, it gets revealed that Goldi wants the wish for herself and Baby is furious. They have a huge fight where so many hurtful things are said. Goldi accuses him of not caring about his family enough to try and find them. Baby says that it's because he cares so much, he doesn't want to learn what horrible fate befell them. He then says that Goldi shouldn't even bother with hers bc they clearly didn't love her, just abandoning her in the woods as a child. They both leave that fight in tears. Splitting up was discussed but honestly, they don't have anyone else in the world so they're both too scared to swing it alone. They keep going after the map but don't talk for days. After a while, there's an apology; a quiet one that is only half spoken because they both know what the other is thinking.

Ofc at the end, they help destroy the map and the star because Goldi's learned that she has all the family she needs right here and Baby's learned that maybe he should make some effort to find his parents. Who knows, they could be alive. He is. He tentatively asks Puss if he knows what happened to his parents, because he was also involved in the roundup, and Puss has to break the horrible news about his mom. There's lots of tears but frankly, Baby kind've suspected.

They go their separate ways from Team Friendship at the end and the idea of trying to find Baby's dad is briefly kicked around as they walk into the sunset. (Setting up a sequel lol)

I have a little idea for an ask that hasnt let me go. It‘s couple sebson or sewis i cannot decide who adopts little lando. 

For the angst Lando has a bit of a tragic backstory. Basically when he was 2 or so he was in a fatal car accident with his parents (a drunk driver hit them from the front) which left him an orphan. He was seriously injured and the doctors were not able to save his leg and they still had trouble to stabilise him. When he came into the foster care system nobody really cared that he didn’t get a fitted prosthetic nor did they care that he never really learned how to walk again. Even though he was involved in a car accident, which he doesn’t really remember he still loves everything around cars and he’s incredibly intelligent for his age. So when he is around 5 years old he can already read and loves engineering stuff. 

The man that runs the foster home would always put on f1 during the weekends and once it was on you couldn’t get lando away from the screen, he would memorise strategies and everything. 

Aston Martin does a campaign where they are raising money for children in the foster care system and lando‘s home gets invited to the british grand prix. For aston themselves it’s more of a thing where they can get good publicity bit seb loves having these kids around and is so patient in showing them everything. Lando isn’t on the tour because at that point he has grown out of his prosthetic leg and no one cared to replace it so he stayed with the owner of the home. When they get back and seb realised that Lando wasn’t on the tour he ask the guy why and he just snarls that lando can’t walk that’s why. Seb is a bit taken aback but tried to find sth to tell lando he pretty sad that he wasn’t allowed to go with the rest. Seb : „Can you give me a tip on how to get a podium for you guys today?“ and expecting a cute answer like „drive faaast“ but Lando launches into an elaborate strategy plan that actually makes sense and seb is in awe. 

Soon though they have to say goodbye.

In the evening seb talks to his partner about Lando. They’ve been thinking about adopting at some point in the near future and were already approved, they just thought they would adopt a baby, but his partner can see in sebs eyes that lando has captured a piece of sebs heart with his shy but excited babbles. 

So they go visit him and they are pretty sure that this is the one. They take him home and they do have some angst along the way bc Lando’s stump had not been treated properly for years and they need to do some intense pt etc. 

But still a lot of fanily fluff. 

Well, that got out of hand but i’ll send it to you anyway. I hope it doesn’t bother you that it’s this long and it’s understandable bc english isn’t my first language. <3

Lando not remembering the crash or what he lost, he just knows that he can't really wall and that his leg comes off. Him telling the Foster home when he starts out growing the leg and it hurts but there's no money to get him a new one fitted, so they just keep him in a wheelchair and stop taking him to physio because "it's easier this way"

Lando isn't bothered by it because he loves reading and writing and drawing, and most of all, watching cars go fast and thinking of ways to make them go faster. For his birthday, they get him some books on cars and f1 that are kid friendly but Lando devours them

So by the time he meets Sebastian, Lando is absolutely enamoured and thinking of strategies and telling everyone that he meets he's gonna work in F1 one day. He doesn't notice the pitying looks he gets cause he's busy planning.

When he gets told where they're going, he's so excited but then they get there and it isn't accessible so Lando can't do parts of the tour he wanted to. He's just sitting with the Foster worker that likes him or tolerates him the most and he's so sad until Sebastain comes over and he comes alive. Just this tiny kid telling Seb a strategy to do well in the British go and Seb is like "oh" 🥹

I can just see Seb going home to Jenson, just gushing about this little kid he met and how cute and amazing he is. Jenson just getting a little smile because "Should I set up some visits?" and it hadn't even occurred to Sebastisn that they could possibly adopt Lando.

So they set about doing it, and they're just enamoured with this smart little kid with the cutest smile who can match Seb in talking about cars and strategies.

Just picture them watching Lando learning to walk, and telling him that they can get him an adapted kart if he wants to learn to kart so "you can plan more amazing strategies to help Seb go fast"

They'd just make the sweetest little family

pirate downloading started cause my internet sucked. i would download a whole series in the background, and watch it later. when my internet died, i had something to watch, and rewatch cause they were my faves. sometimes i was just grounded, and my parents would disconnect the internet lmao. i looked up how to hack neighbor's internet, that didnt pan out but i learned stuff. never keep your factory set password, guys!

adblock i rememebr i was sorta against it. it was like 2012 or something. i was not bothered by ads. they were still mostly the banners to the side, top and bottom, and the square at the side of the youtube video. if i rememebr correctly, not many youtube videos had ads before the video, and if they had it was just the one with a skip button in 3-5 seconds. it was mildly inconvenient at most. what turned me was how ads took priority in loading, and my computer was getting super slow. i cleaned it as best i could and it would still struggle so much. i got adblock and lo and behold, stuff loaded much faster, heck they loaded at all!

yes stuff has gotten more accessible over time. series and movies and manga and comics and music are now online legally, with not many missing. but everything is subscription. so in college ofc i had mom's netflix and continued to pirate everything else. then more and more streaming services came up. so i continued pirating.

ive been asked again and again why i dont pay for spotify premium. bro i barely use it. that and without premium the app treats you like dirt, but the website literally does not care. its like using the premium, im sure i have a skip limit, but i barely ever skip, and the thing glitches out and doesnt give me a single ad, or the ad is just 'please get premium :)', which is more funny than annoying. 'get premium so you can listen offline :)' bro ive been pirating music for over 15 years, you dont even have the versions of songs i like from back then, you have no selling point for me.

Truth be told, I think we're all a little bit afraid. Don't believe anyone who tells you they have everything all figured out, part of the beauty of life is messing up and trying to salvage yourself as you grow and learn. It's what makes us human. And as annoying as it sounds, the more that I've grown, the more I've stopped trying to compare myself to others, and I hope that you can find that about yourself too -- life or fandom or writing isn't a competition, and the hope that you might seek from others may or may not ring true for you and that's okay.

The only thing that truly matters in this life is that you carve out a space for yourself to enjoy as many moments as you can. Issac grading papers can be a disaster because he starts writing in English and he's like OH SHIT, but he does it in class. He'll forget the french word and writes it in English and hopes no one notices.

But even Jean and Napoleon speak different dialects, so sometimes its hard for them.

When Vincent wakes up int he middle of the night and see's Napoleon, and Napoleon just starts having a conversation. First off, Vincent is half asleep, he can't understand a single word, but smiles and nobs and just replies back in dutch saying "Thank you. Goodnight" and turns around and goes back to bed.

In the music room you just hear Mozart yelling in German for a different number of reasons. Doesn't matter the time of day. Mozart's brain doesn't flick to French mode until someone starts talking to him in French. Then he goes "Wait. I'm in France. Ew"

Dazai gives me vibes that he never even bothered to learn French. Sebastian knows it, but some days he's not feeling it and takes him like 5 minutes to process what you said, and to think of something to say.

Faust and Mozart meet and they are so happy. Faust: Finally! Another German! Mozart: Austria actually Faust: You speak German. I don't care where you're from

The brits tho have a hard time understanding each other since they speak different dialects. Arthur just bc of his Scottish accent, Will for obvious reasons, and Isaac just speaks science.

When I was in London there were two people in my intern group that both spoke German-Swiss, both from Switzerland, but both spoke different dialects, and so there were times they couldn't understand each other, and that really opened my eyes to how complicated languages are.

Because this means besides the Brothers, and Sebastian and MC, no one is understanding anyone. Sebastian and MC probably know more proper way of speaking French, while Napoleon is more laid back, and Jean is none of those.

Arthur uses words that didn't exist to Isaac so he's like "WHAT ARE YOU SAYING"

Everyone at the mansion probably learns a combination of a laid back-proper French from hearing people speak, and actively learning it.

Napoleon is like "You really don't have to use that word" And Theo is like "??? What do you mean?? Isn't that how it's said"

And Napoleon and Comte do that a lot to the residents.

Mozart and Faust wouldn't even technically be speaking the same German more than likely.

his big personality makes up for his ignorance-

meanwhile bokuto was just sitting on the other side of the couch and it took him half an hour to realise that you were speaking another language 

however, you were hardly alert either considering it took you god-knows how long to notice that bokuto was staring at you with wide, starry eyes

and you literally just froze- then proceeded to excuse yourself for a moment before muting your microphone

‘bo, are you alright? why are you looking at me like that?’ you asked, concern clear in your tone as you dropped your phone to rush over to him, hastily pressing the back of your had against his forehead

bokuto shook his head abruptly, snapping out of his glazed gaze to pull you onto his lap, ‘were you speaking a foreign language just there?!’

‘yeah, (L). I’m fluent.’ you replied, rather shocked as he went from a statue to his regular, energetic self in the blink of an eye

he cocked his head to the side with wide eyes  — and it was moments like these were you could really see the resemblance between him and an owl  — before wrapping you in a hug, resting his cheek on your shoulder.

you try to teach him ofc but it’s quite difficult for him to learn (L) while he’s simultaneously trying to learn English and Spanish 

he didn’t exactly give up on trying to learn it but the frequency of his lil’ questions of ‘how do you say this is (L)?’ and ‘how do you say that in (L)?’ became less and less 

however, whenever you speak (L) in front of him, he always looks at you with wide, dreamy eyes - completely in awe at how clever you are and he’ll take every opportunity he can to praise you for it

oh and he has you saved in his phone as ‘gorgeous, bilingual wifey 😩💞💕💖’

he probably learns that you can speak another language on the second or third date

y’all were talking about hobbies you wanted to take up, then akaashi pulled out his note titled ‘ ↳ languages i should learn’ and the first one he uttered was (L) so you immediately chimed in

‘oh! i can speak (L)! i could teach you  — if you want.’

akaashi couldn’t help but smile softly; even though he had a bunch of assignments due, along with all the approaching tests he had to study for, he just couldn’t say no to your offer  — you just looked so excited

plus, there was no harm in trying to learn a language alongside his schoolwork

he humbly accepted; further inquiring about your links and relations with the (L) language

anyway, you never really sat akaashi down to teach him (L) or make him take notes or anything, you’d just began with integrating the occasional (L) in an english/japanese sentence

you’d tend to change the noun and given the context, akaashi would be able to figure out what it meant

for example, if y’all were vibin’ on the couch with the TV on in the background, you might ask him to pass the remote but replace the word ‘remote’ with the (L) translation

there was nothing else he could’ve passed to you so he understood that you meant remote

so slowly but surely  — without even realising that he’s learning  — he picks up on quite a lot of the vocabulary 

and by the time y’all are married, he’s basically fluent

oh and on your honeymoon (which is in Italy btw, I just know he’d take you somewhere with a rich history) you are chillin in the pool then out of the corner of your eyes you see akaashi approach you from the edge of the pool, before getting down on one knee 

and you were so confused for a second bc you thought he was proposing again even you recall getting married to him just a few days ago ◉_◉’

however, once he pulled out a box that seemed too large to contain a ring, it piqued your curiosity even more, ‘akaashi?’ you stuttered, eyes wide.

he opened it to reveal a simple silver bangle, pulled it out then offered his hand so he could cuff it around your wrist 

now that the cold metal of the bangle came in contact with your skin, you were finally able to read the text engraved into the silver 

and it was ‘i love you’ in (L) 

Tetsurō Kuroo

you probably told him that you could speak (L) quite early on in the relationship tbh 

he was really proud of you but he only took much of an interest a bit later on

he was just like ‘(y/n), do you know any languages other than japanese and english?’ over some chocolate-covered strawberries

you nodded, ‘yeah, (L). why?’

kuroo gasped, excitedly slamming the kitchen counter with the palm of his hand, ‘i need you to teach me some curses.’

you giggled, taking another bite of your strawberry, ‘heh, why?’

Ranboo:

as a child, he has uncontrollable teleportation. in the middle of conversations he’ll just zap out, and we he comes back he acts like nothing happened and keeps talking

his skin is actually floof! when he’s cold, he fluffs his fur out to keep him warm. he also does it when he’s really upset, so the others know not to talk to him until he’s back to normal

he speaks enchantment table language, and techno learns it and helps Ranboo learn english. and because techno’s teaching it, it’s super big words, and Ranboo picks up on it. tommy and tubbo are terrified of him when he speaks

he loves techno’s crown, so one day when techno is falling asleep, he snatches it. techno gets it back, and then makes ranboo his own little crown

he hates winter, because snow is just cold rain. it doesn’t bother him nearly as much as rain does, but he just stays inside most of the time in winter.

Tommy doesn’t like him at first, but he grows on him

when ranboo is happy, the purple particles around him expand and “dance” in the air. it’s really cute

ranboo and tubbo as adopted siblings bond over their shared horns

Dadschlatt:

when his son, tubbo, is upset, he makes him his fav food: eggs. he thinks it smells like shit but he would do anything for his son’s happiness

when he and tubbo are mad, their horns grow. philza eventually adopts tubbo and after tommy’s exile, he asks for a bucket hat to hide his horns since they’re constantly growing as he’s always upset. phil and tubbo are on good terms, this is before house arrest, so he lends one of his favorite bucket hats. after phil and techno blow up lmanberg, phil looks through the crater and finds a bucket hat. there’s two large holes at the top

(establishes modern sbi au) schlatt doesnt like tommy bc he calls tubbo a loser or smth like that, but tubbo and tommy become best buds and are always hanging out so Schlatt learns to deal with it. he never fully likes tommy, though

when dadschlatt dies, all his memories of tubbo are happy ones; he remembers being a great dad for tubbo’s whole life—not the actual first few years.

Technoblade:

techno doesn’t like ranboo at first, but he slowly gets attached and treats him like his brother. their memories together are some of the only memories he rememebers without the memory book

techno dyes his hair when he’s fifteen. tommy helps him

When techno first starts growing his hair out, it’s a mullet for a while. tommy, wanting to be cool like his big brother, grows out a mullet. he gets bullied, and cuts it all off. tommy is bald for like a month

techno’s crown isn’t a traditional crown—it’s a hair clip, really. He keeps it on top of his head and it keeps his hair together, and his pride

Tommy gifts techno a skull mask when he’s younger. the skull mask becomes a whole thing, and techno doesn’t take it off outside the house

techno braids all of his siblings hair at one point. either they’re asleep, or they beg them

Okay so, Sero Latino headcanons and just headcanons in general bc I love him and I’m procrastinating studying for my finals. I have also been thinking about all the difficulties that being a foreigner has with language and culture and staff. Also, imma project a little bit so bear with me

When Sero and his parents moved to Japan, Sero didn’t know Japanese he knew only the basics and bc of these he probably was really good at subjects that don’t have letters on them

Like, Sero it’s really good at math because numbers are numbers and he just had to follow the teaches method,

when class 1-a find out hes good at math they're like how are you so good and he's jsut like "bueno plebes, when you move across the world you have to find ways to remember yourself you're not dumb just don't know the language"

he’s probably also really good at sports and English

Although being in an environment where Japanese was all he hear helped Sero picked Japanese fairly easy he still had a period of time where he was failing most of his classes bc his Japanese wasn't the best

Even after like 5 years of being in Japan there are expression he doesn’t quite get or like Japanese pop culture or classics he doesn’t know and he feels alienated for not knowing them and the bakusquad try to make him feel better by explaining stuff to him

Okay but like imagine Bakugo aggressively making Sero feel better

In Spanish word have a lot of different meaning like so in my Mexican mind the equivalent of saying “bet” when someone says something it’s “jaló” however it also means to pull

So imagine after Sero has taught some Spanish to class 1-a someone asks him to go somewhere and Sero it’s like jaló, and everyone it’s like the fuck?? So Sero has to explain Mexican slang to the class

A few hours later when Aizawa comes back he finds half of the class arguing about the correct way of using words like “pedo”, “madre”, “verga” and Midoriya it’s taking notes at light speed and the other half are trying to stop Bakugo from blowing Denki's face bc he keeps using the words wrong

Idk if it’s just my Mexican dad or all dad are like this but whenever something in the house needs fixing my dad would just make it worse or get mad at everybody bc he can’t fix it or take forever to even look at it

But imagine Sero's dad it’s like that so Sero's mom took it to herself to learn how to fix stuff around the house so Sero's got stuck helping his mom fix stuff so now he’s just really good at it

So now every time something needs fixing at the dorms Sero just fixes it

Imagine bakudeku knocking at Sero's door bc they were fighting and they accidentally broke the sink for the 4 time that month and they need to fix

“Sero we need help-” “safo Rey ” (I think this is the equivalent as touching your nose to signal your not gonna do it?? Idk) Sero ended up fixing it just before Aizawa was back

I just rewatch Coco so imagine class 1-a celebrating Día de Los Muertos (day of the dead) putting up the altar and all and Aizawa and All Might walk in when the class it's finishing up and Aizawa it's like 'Sero why are you putting flower petals in the floor?' and Sero it's like 'oh to guide the dead safely on their way back' "... okay that doesn't answer my question"

Aizawa and All Might end up watching Coco and at the end All Might ask the class if it's okay he wants to put a picture on the altar too

the next morning the altar has two new pictures, a lady with black hair and a smiley boy sitting on what seems a cloud, although the class wants to ask about the boy a look on Aizawa's face stops all questions.

As for the sequel. I have gotten enough requests that I will do it. After I finish proposal part 3. Don't ask me when is that, idk. Can't really promise on a happy ending but I'll try. There sure will be angst tho. So much of it, haha.

Draco wakes up with a pounding headache. He scrunches his face as the noise overwhelms him and gives him a terrible headache. He hears three gasps from beside him. As he lifts his head up and opens his eyes, he finds himself in a hospital. He racks his brain in an attempt to remember what had happened that landed him there but comes up blank.

"Draco-" someone whispers beside him and when he turns his head, it's none other than Harry fucking Potter. What the actual fuck and why does Potter look so bloody fit- not that he wasn't before but holy Merlin, this is on another level. Potter also looks older, so he frowns at him and when did he start calling Draco by his given name?

"Potter, why the fuck are you here?" That's the first thing that comes out if his mouth and now Potter is frowning at him.

"I don't know, Malfoy. What does one do when their husband lands up in the hospital after trying to save them from an unknown spell? And for future purpose, it's Malfoy-Potter now." Potter snarks back and there's no actual venom in his voice just mirth and humor.

Draco has never heard him talk like this to him before. And wait- did he just say husband? Is that supposed to mean him? And Malfoy-Potter? What the fuck is happening?

"Mate, you really scared us this time." Weasley says from his other side and Granger's sitting beside him with slight tears in her eyes?! Is he in the same universe or what? What's the joke here?

"We should call an healer," Granger replies before he can even begin to contemplate whats happening.

He remains quiet, trying to figure out what is actually going on when the Healer comes in.

"Auror Malfoy, how many more times do I need to tell you that you need not run headfirst into any situation if you see that your husband is in danger. Had you not gone to save Auror Potter then you would not have these severe injuries and Auror Potter would have been fine as well. Getting two completely different curses at the same time is very very harmful." They finish and seriously who is this? Why are they talking as if they have known Draco for a long time?

"Draco, are you quite alright?" Granger asks in a soft voice and he looks at her in disbelief. Did she forget who she is talking to?

"I would ask if you would like to get everyone outside for the examination but it's really a futile effort at this point." The Healer smiles at him and shakes their head.

"Uh, uhm actually I would like some privacy if that's not too much." Draco says and really that might not have been the best thing to say. The shocked expressions on everyone's face conveys that fantastically.

"Well then, out all of you. Even you, Auror Potter." The Healer says, the epitome of professional.

"Zia, I have asked you multiple times to call me Harry." Potter says almost absent-mindedly, like it's almost instinct at this point or something.

After Zia had asked their questions and Draco had told them that he doesn't remember anything about what happened. And they ask him what was the last thing he remembers and he replies that he remembers turning to the Apparation point in Diagon Alley on Christmas Eve and Zia looks at him with wide eyes.

They ask him about the year and he eyes them suspiciously before replying 2000.

"Draco, I think you have lost a fair amount of memory. It's actually May 2015 and not December 2000." Zia informs him regretfully.

"Okay. No seriously, it's okay. But why is Potter saying he is my husband and he is a Malfoy-Potter now?" Draco asks them incredulously.

"That I think you should ask Harry himself." Zia says, biting her lips in a way that can't really be pleasant.

When Potter and his sidekicks finally finish explaining him about the last 15 years of his life. His first response is to laugh. Apparantly, he has a child. A literal child? How did that even happen? And he has been married for the last 10 years. To Potter.

"This feels like a childhood fantasy come true, you know? Being a part of the golden trio. Líke seriously, this is something I have to believe? Who set this up? Pansy? Was it Blaise? I mean it's got to be one of those bastards." Draco finally says and laughs.

"Well, I'm sorry the three of you but really, you can go now. Sorry for wasting y'all's precious time. Please send those goons in." Draco continues. He looks at the three of them, hoping they would finally agree with him and tell him that it was a good one though and go their merry way. But Granger looks like she wants to cry and Weasley looks much the same, except he is looking shocked as well.

He turns to Potter, his apparant husband and the other father of his child, and finds him actually crying. There are tears flowing down his face almost constantly and all Draco wants to do is reach out and-

The young togruta shot Skywalker a suspicious look, opening her mouth in what would certainly be protest, but when he shook his head, she closed it again.

“Tritrokta, Anakin,” she muttered, but then did as told and left the room. Obi-Wan hadn’t known that Skywalker had a companion, never mind such a young non-human one. It wasn’t exactly the Empire’s style to team up with other species. Then again, Skywalker hadn’t been with the Empire for a while.

“Hello,” Obi-Wan said. “Moyo imya Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ya chlen Galatic Aliansa. Ty speak na Basike?”

The Empire’s officers usually knew Basic, though some of them preferred to speak the Angli-heavier variant of it. Obi-Wan didn’t expect Skywalker to be one of them, his files had made him out to be more of a polyglot, but it was polite to ask, and Obi-Wan had to make a good impression. That Skywalker had sent his companion out of the room already said enough about how much he trusted him.

Skywalker’s eyes narrowed and he set his spanner on his workbench. “Who ne speak Basic? What ty hochesh?”

Obi-Wan wanted a lot of things. He wanted the Empire to dissolve, he wanted the Alliance to loosen its hold on the F.O.R.C.E. users and allow them proper training and he wanted everyone in the galaxy to lay down their weapons and come together in peace.

He would likely get none of that anytime soon.

“I’d like for you to listen to my offer,” he said instead.

So @writing-is-thorapy and I were talking about a galaxy not so far away. And this aligned perfectly with me remembering the @lingthusiasm episodes about Space pidgin and how thanks to the Space Race, languages of space are English and Russianx which, over time, would develop into a creole so that the first language of space would be this creole.

That being said, if you look at a galaxy not so far away, Basic, as we know it, would be the end result of this pidgin. So what I’m now writing about is basically humanity still taking its first steps into the galaxy, learning its place as thousands of other species do it at the same time. And part of that, is learning how to communicate!

Sadly, I don’t have any audio bits of this Runglish and therefore have to make do by bothering my Russian friend for translating things for me and then checking whether I messed it up to much.

In this particular setting, Obi-Wan speaks the Russian heavier Basike while Anakin speaks the English heavier Basic. The grammar of both languages is fairly similar, though the distribution of how heavily the influence of either on the vocabulary is, differs.

This is the actual convo in both:

“Hello,” Obi-Wan said. “My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I am a member of the Galactic Alliance. Do you speak Basic?”

“Who doesn’t speak Basic? What do you want?”

Obi-Wan: Privet. Moyo imya Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ya chlen Galakticheskogo Aliansa. Ty govorish na Basike?

Anakin: Kto ne govorit na Basike? Chego ty hochesh?

Additional linguistic rambles:

greeting words like hi/hello are english, but since they are used in more and more languages, so i decided to keep those for Basic

I like the fact that you drop the “to be” in russian when it's superfluous so i did that here as well.

I decided to go with "galactic" bc that's the shorter word and langauges tend to go for most efficient with least words.

I kept russian pronouns, but I think I'll stick to using nominative case and go with less case marking.

Since Obi-Wan uses the russian heavier Basike while Anakin uses the more anglicized Basic, Anakin drops the preposition while Obi-Wan keeps it.

And then, while not shown here, you have Anakin and Ahsoka, who communicate in a mix of Huttese, Togruti (language they use at the start), and Basic.

Of course, there’s a lot of work to be done - establish a usable grammar for the Basics, a sound bank, though nothing as extensive as I’m doing for Dai Bendu - but I think this is a fun project. Ideally, every dialogue would be written in the creole/slangs I’ll use, but I think people would riot when reading.

So, this is my new AU: Star Wars but before anything recognizeable exists and everything is Linguistics.

aaaa this is quite long!! also i apologize for it sitting for a while, this was p tough but i do love both of the boys sm :,) !!

memory:

what memory are they most fond of? 

-sam: sam remembers one of the first friends he ever made when he was still living in zuzu city! his friend’s parents kinda doubled as his own, and saw his friend’s dad as a father figure when kent was away! his friend’s dad was super big on music and taught his son how to play a few instruments, and sam really loved how close they all were! his friend’s dad bought him his first acoustic guitar :,)

-seb: when him and sam were younger robin allowed sam to come on a camping trip with them!! it was the first time sam and seb really were close for an extended period of time and they were able to do some stuff on their own for the first time!! seb remembers sam being suuuper bad at fishing and struggling to start a fire (despite say he was the best at both)... the whole trip is a fun memory for him!

what memory bothers them? 

-sam: his mom blew up on him and vincent for something super small. sam was old enough to piece together she wasn’t upset with them, but was just stressed about kent. vincent didn’t understand what he had done wrong and took it really bad, and was kinda distant from jodi for a little bit just because he was scared to make her mad again.

-seb: anything that has to do with his father! he tries to repress it as much as possible instead of dealing with it, but sometimes he’ll have a good memory with his father come up and then feels guilty for resenting him! 

what is something from the past they've learned from? 

-sam: always check up on everyone! if someone seems like they’re struggling.. even a little.. he’ll offer some help or at least some encouraging words. he learned esp with sebastian and keeping in tune with him, but it works for when his mom is super stressed too!

-seb: not to waste his breath on those that don’t deserve it! he’ll be the bigger person and not fight with others on trivial stuff that has no real outcome. he’s not one for confrontation anyway, but if someone’s looking for someone to back them up, it’s not gonna be him. 

what is a memory that always makes them laugh?

-sam: these 2 are connected, but def sometime he pranked seb. anytime he’s made seb (lightheartedly, ofc) annoyed he enjoys it. he lives to innocently mess with others and finds the funniest moments are where he’s successfully caught someone off guard. but, there was a time when he was younger kent got stuck on a water slide… he doesn’t let kent live that down, despite knowing the slide was built for kids. 

-seb: i think canonically seb smiles thinking about how sam is leading in community service hours and i thiiink another dialogue is similar to that. it seems like memories with sam make him chuckle if they cross his mind! sam launching snowballs accidentally into lewis’ face, tripping over his own feet in front of penny.. etc

teach:

what is one thing they wish to teach the world? 

-sam: not so much the world, but he’d love to teach vincent to be himself as he is!! and to pursue what he wants no matter what jodi or anyone would say against it!!

-seb: he hopes that as he is… people will learn to be more compassionate and not jump to conclusions about a person. he knows he’s a likable guy, just hopes sometimes people will learn to see past his faults.

what is something they think is important that isn't taught at school? 

-sam: mental health!! i think he’d be a big advocate for knowing what’s going on in the head and how to catch certain things early. teach people its ok to breakdown!! there’s nothing wrong with needing a break and taking it easy… teach kids that it’s okay to be upset. 

-seb: honestly? computer sciences. i mean you have keyboarding and such but like? viruses, simple stuff like settings and such? not touched on a lot! he gets so sick doing simple tasks for people sooo often, esp when it’s like basic stuff! gotta teach some computer smarts (so no one bothers him when he’s busy lsdkflkds)

what is something they wish they knew earlier? 

-sam: lifes too short to mope around and be upset about insignificance things!! gotta look at the positives in bad situations and take nothing for granted! his dad being away kinda taught him a lot about mortality, and now makes sure to appreciate the little things!

-seb: people do care about him. he’s more secure with his friends now, but it took him years to warm up and not feel like a burden/annoyance to them. he now knows if he does feel down both abby and sam are ready to jump to his side… even if he doesn’t think he’ll leave a ~lasting impact~ on the world, he takes comfort he at least brings them some joy from time to time.

what was their best and worst school subject?

-sam: he’s v good at science-y stuff! like the plant/animal part of biology (even stuff like enzymes etc!!) and finds a lot of interest in it!! if he can do like hands on labs he learns the best and its easier to apply his knowledge!

-seb: english! def the english teacher’s fave kid. likes classics and the drama of shakespeare… won’t really read aloud unless he’s called on. he’s super good at grammar and english has always come super easy to him! he also really likes history but only specifics of it.

were they a "good student"? why or why not?

-sam: ohh no. definitely a good bit of that is his adhd, but teachers ofc never really took him seriously. i think he’s v bright and intelligent but.. traditional learning is not for him.

-seb: he’s the kid that got “a pleasure to have in class” on his report card simply bc he never spoke! the kid that the loud and rowdy kids get sat next to to be a ‘good influence’... good grades until he hit his teen years and started feeling.. y’know... gloomy.

Baby fever mode: Kenshin noticed that every time he’d go out with mc she would be in a state of bliss when she saw a baby or a small child. He would be DRAGGED by her when she saw a baby, asking the mom how old the baby was and cooing over the baby while Kenshin just stared, not seeing the appeal over a weak and slobbery infant. Until he saw the eyes of mc light up as she cradled a friend’s baby did it click how much mc was in full mama attitude mode and how maybe he might want to have a baby of their own. It wasn’t until mc upfront asked him after waving goodbye to another baby on the street “Do you want kids someday?” Although he was hesitant with the idea of having children, especially with the possibility of losing mc during childbirth, mc’s face made it clear that one of her biggest desires is to be a mother. “Our children will be the greatest that ever lived.”

Pregnant mode: Ultimate executor of mc’s desires. Her wish is his command and is so involved in his sense of duty to provide to the love of his life and their baby that he does not get bothered by her crankiness. Will be super worried if she starts crying or winces in pain because anything that hurts his mc in any way is gonna pay the price! Would evaluate mc 24/7and satisfy her food cravings no matter how weird they were. Would be on Sasuke like butter on toast to recall any knowledge and procedures to help with pregnancy/childbirth bc he is so paranoid and worried for the now two things in his life. Their baby hasn’t been born yet but he has already sworn that he would absolutely die/kill for mc and their future baby.

Mitsuhide-

Baby fever mode: When one of the trusted castle staff had nobody to watch her baby as she had to run an errand, Mitsuhide noticed mc almost propelling herself forward and offering to babysit in a split second. He watched as mc took care of the baby, especially when she was amazed with every single thing the baby did. The baby just had to make a noise or clap their lil hands together and she’d be the most amazed person in the world (he actually got a bit jealous of the baby for that). He decided to get an embarrassed reaction out of her by saying “We might have to make some babies of our own to keep you amused like that, little mouse.”he’d suggestively smirk, expecting her to be caught off guard, except her enthusiastic “YES PLEASE” both surprised him and made him extremely happy on the inside. He never thought he deserved to have a family of his own but mc gave that hope and opportunity and he was gonna take it.

Pregnant mode: Probably noticed before mc did. Would have to tone it down on the teasing unless he wants to actually make his pregnant mc cry. Her workload would magically reduce drastically (maybe bc Mitsu convinced Nobunaga to give her time to relax). If her feet started to hurt he’d scoop her up and carry her because he didn’t want her feet to hurt anymore and her reactions are priceless. When taking her food craving order to Masamune, he loves to see his astonished and disgusted reaction to the strange food combos but would comply. Finds himself gazing at the baby bump, amazed how beautiful and fragile life is and how he will protect it no matter what.

Ieyasu-

Baby fever mode: When mc heard one of the castle staff talking about how her baby was getting sick a lot, she charged right in there and promised an arrangement to be made with THE doctor Ieyasu. Of course mc’s plea for checking on a sick baby is met with a begrudging yes cuz he has a kind heart and he knows mc is soft for babies. When the maid brought her baby in mc suddenly started to fawn over the baby before remembering why the baby was here. She would still tickle the baby’s foot and let the baby hold her finger to calm down. Ieyasu couldn’t help but gaze at her being so awestruck and loving to the baby. “We should have a baby, Ieyasu.” *cue Ieyasu getting a surprised coughing fit and blush*Would brush it off at first but at the end of the day would say yes, even though babies can be annoying and frustrating, he would bear that and love their child.

Pregnant mode: TBH would know mc was pregnant before she did. Would be the king of making tea and herbal remedies to combat morning sickness and get plenty of nutrients. Makes some good foot cream as well. He researches everything he can about pregnancy and worries constantly on the inside. Tones down his contrary remarks so mc doesn’t get upset and learns to be cool and hospitable more so than ever. Mc is always on his mind 24/7 and he’s constantly listing things to do to help her and ensure she and their baby will be the healthiest that they possibly can, working himself into a frenzy and feeling like he’s not doing enough, but mc reassures him he’s doing all he can. He never thought he’d ever find love, much less have a family with the love of his life, so he thanks the universe as he puts his hand on mc’s stomach as she’s sleeping.

Mitsunari-

Baby fever mode: One of the soldiers brought his baby to training, going to Mitsunari to explain that he couldn’t train because his wife was sick and couldn’t care for the baby that day. Mc heard the word baby and RAN to them. “I can watch the baby as you train!” “I do not want to trouble you, prince-“ “I WILL WATCH THE BABY”. Mc enthusiastically received the baby as the soldier went back to the lines. During break Mitsunari walked up to mc still watching the baby and noticed how overjoyed she was.“That was nice of you to watch his baby, mc.” “I kind of have baby fever right now so it works out for the best.” “Baby fever? Is that bad?” “Oh no it’s a saying for people that really love babies and really want a baby.” “Would the cure for baby fever be having a baby? If so, I’d love to do that.” “YES”

Pregnant mode: Definitely read through every single book possible about pregnancy and parenthood to be the best aid and father possible. He’s really good at strategizing and scheduling health plans for mc but execution wise is somewhat terrifying. Mc tactfully suggests for Masamune to make her meals after Mitsunari set the whole kitchen on fire. Mitsunari already has a tough time caring for himself and his health, but he takes mc’s pregnancy as seriously as a battle plan and is always careful around her. He wants to be as dependable as possible to mc and will be of greater focus than he is with himself. He will prevent her from tripping on anything but that doesn’t prevent himself from tripping. As long as mc and their baby will be safe and happy, he’d be willing to take on all the bruises and burns in the world.

Like, she gives Clay permission to tell the rest of the D.O.D bc she isn't about to risk being in front of them when they hear the news

(When Sunny starts actively seeking her out as a hang out buddy and Tsunami, Glory, and Starflight appear to tolerate her presence just a bit more afterwards she pretends she isn't confused by the change)
