Finished watching Kuroko no Basket a bit ago and wanted to redesign some of the characters. It’s a really good anime and part of me feels like if it had better character design, it could’ve been more memorable today. Similar to how Haikyuu is.

It started with Akashi bc I felt his design didn’t well convey his royal themes. I know how similar he is to Kuroko is meant to reference how in a previous draft, they were meant to be brothers but I feel the final antagonist of a story should be visually striking. Moreover, if it wasn’t for his smug look, you wouldn’t get the tragic wealthy heir vibe at all so his design fails to communicate his most important feature. To ease into the transition, I like to imagine he keeps his og hair in middle school and starts slicking it back in highschool.

Then the redesign fever infected the rest of Rakuzan bc I was dissatisfied with how, despite their narrative importance, the Uncrowned Kings’ had kinda bland designs. There’s a lot of untapped fun there.

Then I redid all the team jerseys cause I felt Kajo got majorly snubbed. And then I hallucinated better designs and a backstory for Team Jabberwock. And then-

Yeah, really it’s not objectively better maybe but I had fun adding things and making up some headcannons.

i've already posted this everywhere but here...

but yeah, i am often asked to choose between oresei and bokusei which is just...i won't say 'inconsiderate' since i know they mean no harm but come on...how exactly am i supposed to choose between the two people who make me want to be alive. if that makes any sense. if a gun was pointed to my head and i was told i had to choose, you best believe the trigger would be pulled.

i can't even tell with which one i fell in love with first was. i suppose it was oresei, in the cameo scenes...i actually do not know. seeing bokusei cut kagami with scissors awakened something in me -- but i'm pretty sure he already had me wrapped around his finger before. it was just a matter of time.

tldr; i cannot choose! they're both extremely dear to me and their quirks make me love them for who they truly are as their own individuals. choosing is impossible!!

No seriously, you don't wonder what would have happened if kuroko had nodded to Akashi to tell him like "go ahead and do what you want" (He will never have done that I know 😭 )

Kagami tried to hit it but he missed, now if kuroko had accepted who would have won? Who would have come out the most damaged? I have a hard time seeing midorima this fight but it would be so funny 🤣

But one thing is for sure they would have been ready to do anything for their friend 😌

Thinking about Akashi's father and how he also grew up in a prestigious family, I wondered what it would be like if Akashi didn't even make the decision to go to Rakuzan on his own and he only went there because his father also studied there decades ago when he was a high schooler. If so, it would be another interesting layer to Akashi's character if he had the added pressure of following in his father's footsteps to a T.

Like imagine him getting accepted into Rakuzan and having teachers who've been teaching there for decades tell Akashi how they remember what an exemplary student his father was and how they expect great things from him, too.

Imagine him walking through the hallways and seeing pictures of former Rakuzan students who've won important awards and competitions displayed on the walls, and Akashi manages to find pictures of his father back when he was a high schooler.

Imagine him constantly feeling like he's living in his father's shadow and wanting to escape the responsibilities and expectations that come with the territory of being an Akashi.

Imagine school faculty coming up to Akashi regularly and telling him how lucky he was to have such a great intelligent man like Masaomi to be his father.

(They don't know that beneath the glittering prestige and behind closed doors, Masaomi is not the father figure everyone thinks he is. They don't know of the wordless dinners he shares with his son as they sit on opposite sides of an 8-seater dining table. They don't know that his father, someone who should be guiding his son through life, has left Akashi to fend for himself while Masaomi becomes more emotionally unavailable with every passing day. They know nothing.)

I just think it would be so fascinating to explore if that was the case and Rakuzan had been around long enough for his father to have been a student there in the past.

I sometimes wish Kuroko no Basket had been released in 2020 instead of 2012. The fanfiction featuring original characters or reader inserts is often cringeworthy, they all seem to share the same personality traits with only minor differences. It's really confusing why the female character is always portrayed as the only girl playing basketball with the boys, even more so that she is better than them and she is very Smart on the court but totally clueless in school. Her name is typically something like "Queen of Basketball" or another title starting with "Queen." She’s often depicted with an unrealistic body type and a mean demeanor, yet everyone seems to love her.

The writing quality is generally poor it’s so 2010s in bad way. Haikyuu and Blue Lock fans are so lucky you guys have a wider variety of fanfiction. While there are certainly some cringe-worthy stories, there are also many well-written ones. You have fanfics that actually explore relationships and don't just stick to the main plot and also most Kuroko no Basket fanfics are short, and if they are longer, they tend to fall into the reverse harem category. I’d be fine if they developed the relationships better, but most of the time, the characters just like her for dumb reasons. Can we please get an OC/reader who doesn’t play basketball, is nice and has a complex personality! (Also, if you know any good KNB fanfics, please share!)

seijuro never losing at anything ever means he either manages to perfect his skills at absolute first try (much more efficient than kise) or that he just doesn't participate in a lot of competitions (putting aside basketball and his hobbies). the correct answer seems to be the first. but how is that even possible???
