Alright. I’ll bite! I’m also 41 and want to continue to stay looking young. I use Shani Darden retinol thanks to your reco. What else do you use?!
Haha look at me influencing people. As a baseline I will say I do not smoke and am religious about using sunscreen.
So lately I have also been alternating with a good AHA/BHA in the evenings, I use the peel pads by Dr. Dennis Grossman but there are lots of other great options (e.g. Pixi at Target). I have also been a little too obsessed with hydration, so I use the snail mucin essence by Cosrx, followed by a hydrating moisturizer (currently using the HA and Ceramides one from Loreal) and then I lock it in with a good skin barrier cream at night. Do I look insane when I go to sleep? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes.
I follow Dr. Sherene Idriss on IG and she turned me on to the Cicaplast Baume B5 from La Roche Posay and that's something I reach for if my skin needs extra TLC.
Now here is my biggest secret. This Aztec clay mask gets me better results than $100 masks I have bought from Skinceuticals or even Shani Darden. I will be using this mask for the rest of my life. It's so good that even my teenage son will ask me to put it on for him (teenage acne problems). It comes in a giant tub for $15 and will last you all year.
PS if you think my skincare routine is crazy, you should see my 14 year old daughter's bathroom shelf. She has twice as much product as me (all age appropriate I promise) and most of it is K beauty.

So I’ve had severe hyperpigmentation around my mouth due to eczema for MONTHS and acne, acne scars for years.
I tried everything and it didn’t work.
Sooo here is some advice no one asked for:
For acne prone skin always check the ingredients in your products for pore cloggers. As pore cloggers lead to more breakouts, acne, pimples and irritates the skin. So copy paste the ingredients into a website which will show if the products has any pore cloggers. I use https://acneclinicnyc.com/pore-clogging-ingredients .
SUNSCREEN almost every day especially when the UV index is 3 and above.
You need to moisturize your skin, even if it is oily and acne-prone if you don't your skin will try to produce more oil to compensate for that which will lead to more pimples. ( use a water-based or oil-free moisturizer)
DONT use a salicylic acid cleanser everyday. Use it max thrice a week.
Double and oil cleanse at least twice a week and especially if you wear makeup up go in with an oil cleanser or a cleansing balm and then with your regular face wash.
BRUSH before doing your skincare as Saliva and toothpaste residue can remain all over your chin and your jawline which could be causing acne breakouts, sensitivities and irritation. So brush and then wash your face.
NATURAL FACE MASKS and remedies
Honey: has anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antioxidant properties.
Turmeric: contains anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial and antioxidant components. Some research shows that it helps with Atopic dermatitis which is a type of eczema.
Coffee: It is a natural vasoconstrictor, meaning it can reduce inflammation and swelling by constricting blood vessels but it only helps temporary.
Aztec clay or Bentonite clay: helps to remove dirt and oil from pores( use only once a week) . You can use it with water, apple cider vinegar or white vinegar too.
Green tea as a toner: it's an antioxidant and soothes the skin due to the vitamin E and amino acids which also hydrates the skin. ( I usually drink green tea at night so I use some of the leftover tea as a toner)
I've been using these makes for 3 weeks and I've noticed such a big difference, especially with the hyperpigmentation.
⚠️: if you have eczema go to the derm first like I did. I use what she gave with these. She gave me all eczema friendly products and an ointment. So please go to the dermatologist first.
The most important part is to eat healthy and the stuff that doesn’t trigger your acne. For some people it might be dairy, sugar or even oily food.
Always remember having acne and other skin concern doesn’t define your worth or how beautiful you are. You are so much more than just your skin💜💜
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask questions in the comments. You can also ask me to show the before and after pictures of the hyperpigmentation around my mouth. I’ll Dm

my plans for back to school ❦
i start school in three weeks.. someone send help.. anyways, as always, my goal is to look my best and feel my best! so here's how i'm preparing to go back to school with clear skin and a flat tummy x
celery juice + green tea every morning! for me, i find that green tea is really great for my skin! drinking it really helped with my acne, so i'll be drinking it more regularly in preparation for the first day of school. as well, celery juice helps a ton with bloating (in my experience) so i'll be drinking it every morning <3
no sugar + low sodium sugar and sodium are both absolutely horrible for your skin and acne, so i'll be avoiding both as much as possible. i already consume as little sugar as possible, but i'll be aiming to cut it out completely by using sugar substitutes + drinking starbucks less
soups leading up to the first day to avoid any kind of bloating during the first day of school, i'll be aiming to only drink soups (with konjac noodles/non-bloating vegetables) for the last few days before school starts. of course, remember to keep your body healthy + not starve yourself lol
aztec clay mask the day before the aztec clay mask works miracles for me, so i'll be trying to use it more regularly leading up to the first day of school, to prevent + aid with any acne i may get!
40 mins biking daily! this one doesn't need much of an explanation, biking is just my preferred method of exercise !!

hi anon!! i am having a good day <3 i hope u r too! so sorry for the long post haha 😭
7: what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit the aquarium?
hmm probably the stingrays! or sea turtles 🩷🩷 i just love them so much!! and of course all the other babies 😭💗
9: do you have a skincare routine? (and how many steps is it?)
of course i do!! it’s constantly changing but here’s my current one!
am: wash face with panoxyl cleanser, and use snail mucin and/or hylaronic acid serum (on damp skin) spray rosewater face mist to help layer! moisturize twice, once with cera ve lotion, then either the cera ve cream, la roche posay cicaplast b5 baume, or weleda skin food!! 🩷 then i use the naturium dew-glow sunscreen <33
pm: i remove my makeup with the garnier micellar water, and follow the steps of my am skincare routine up to the second layer of moisturizer, then i add an occlusive like egyptian magic cream or aquaphor! and of course i spray rose water in between steps :p
and then occasionally i’ll use the aztec secret clay mask or the peach slices snail recuse mask if my skin is looking dull or whatever :)! (for reference, i have pretty dry skin and i pretty much never get acne! i used to have bad fungal acne but panoxyl helped sooo much 🩷)
18: your boba/tea order?

Key Factors to Consider When Buying a Clay Mask
1. Identify Your Skin Type Understanding your skin type is the first step in choosing a clay mask that works for you. Different formulations cater to specific skin needs: - Oily Skin: Opt for clay masks with ingredients like bentonite or kaolin, which absorb excess oil and unclog pores. - Sensitive Skin: Look for a clay mask for sensitive skin that is free of harsh additives and includes soothing agents like honey or niacinamide. - Dry Skin: Hydrating ingredients such as jojoba oil, aloe vera, or hyaluronic acid can prevent over-drying. - Combination Skin: Choose a mask with a balanced formula, such as kaolin clay combined with lightweight hydrating agents. - Mature Skin: The best clay mask for aging skin or mature skin often includes ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, or antioxidants to boost elasticity and reduce fine lines. 2. Match Ingredients to Your Concerns Clay masks are infused with active ingredients that target specific skin concerns. Here are some common combinations: - Acne and Breakouts: Masks with salicylic acid, BHA, or sulfur are excellent for addressing acne. The best clay mask for pimples or sebaceous filaments will deeply cleanse while calming inflammation. - Dark Spots and Acne Scars: Vitamin C clay masks with turmeric or niacinamide can brighten skin and reduce hyperpigmentation. - Deep Pore Cleansing: Activated charcoal or tea tree-infused clay masks are ideal for drawing out impurities and minimizing blackheads. - Exfoliation: Look for formulas with gentle exfoliating agents, such as retinol or enzymes, for smoother skin texture. - Hydration: A clay mask with honey, jojoba oil, or aloe vera will provide much-needed moisture for dry skin types. 3. Formulation and Add-Ons Consider the formulation and additional features to enhance your masking experience: - Pre-Mixed vs. Powdered: Pre-mixed clay masks are convenient, while powdered options allow customization with added ingredients like rose water or apple cider vinegar. - Additional Skincare Benefits: Choose a clay mask with retinol for anti-aging, or a clay mask with salicylic acid to address acne. - Applicators and Accessories: A clay mask with an applicator, brush, or headband makes application easier and more hygienic. 4. Usability and Frequency Some clay masks are designed for weekly use, while others are gentle enough for more frequent application. Always check the recommended usage to avoid over-drying or irritating your skin. For example: - Gentle Masks: Formulated with hydrating or soothing ingredients for regular use. - Intensive Masks: Powerful formulas like a clay mask with sulfur or salicylic acid should be used sparingly. 5. Specialty Products for Unique Needs If you have specific concerns, explore niche options that cater to your requirements: - For Hair: The best clay mask for hair includes hydrating and detoxifying properties to cleanse the scalp and strengthen hair strands. - For Men and Women: The best clay mask for men often targets oily skin and larger pores, while the best clay mask for women may include anti-aging or brightening ingredients. - For Black Women: Choose a clay mask for black women with hydrating and soothing properties to cater to melanin-rich skin.
Top Ingredients to Look For
When selecting a clay mask, the active ingredients play a significant role in its effectiveness. Here are the top ingredients to consider: - Bentonite Clay: Excellent for oily and acne-prone skin, it absorbs toxins and excess oil. - Kaolin Clay: A gentle option suitable for sensitive skin, it cleanses without over-drying. - Salicylic Acid and BHA: Target acne and blackheads by exfoliating deep within the pores. - Honey: Natural antibacterial and moisturizing properties make it ideal for dry or sensitive skin. - Vitamin C: Brightens skin and reduces the appearance of acne scars and dark spots. - Niacinamide: Soothes irritation and improves skin’s barrier function. - Turmeric: Known for its anti-inflammatory and brightening properties, ideal for dull or uneven skin tones. - Tea Tree Oil: A natural antibacterial that helps combat acne. - Jojoba Oil: Balances hydration while maintaining the skin’s natural moisture barrier.
Top Tips for Using a Clay Mask
To get the most out of your clay mask, follow these simple tips: - Start with Clean Skin: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and makeup. - Apply Evenly: Use a clay mask with a brush or applicator for a mess-free and hygienic application. - Follow Instructions: Leave the mask on for the recommended time; overuse can lead to irritation or dryness. - Moisturize After: Always follow up with a hydrating serum or moisturizer to replenish moisture. - Patch Test: Before applying a new mask, do a patch test to avoid allergic reactions.

was thinkin abt doin an updated skincare list..
my skin type: oily, mature, textured and sensitive / allergic. use to be very acne prone when i was younger but found out it was allergic or dermatitis from using products that werent compatible w my skin. im not someone who is always trying new stuff, when i find something that works i stick with it.
preferred water type: warm and soft/filtered
face wash: my OG HG cetaphil (the reg 1) even off brands of this seem to be good, the rexall one especially.
moisturizer: my OG HG is lush dream cream (this is advertised as a body cream, but i use it on my face) it is so hydrating and smells nice never disagrees with my skin. i have also been using lush celestial since the air is colder and my skin is dry, but only on the dry parts of my face... mouth area, between my brows, my crows feet and corners of nose, chin.
exfoliator: i just dont use these they are too hard on my skin, i used to dermaplane but as i get older i find peach fuzz to be a natural filter lol it just softens the lines on my face 🤷 as well my toner eats the dead skin off good enough imo.
serums: my OG HG is the ordinary niacinamide + zinc. i also enjoy the hyaluronic acid, matrixyl, and multipeptide serum as well as the mandelic acid. for awhile i was into the ole henriksen vitamin c serum but havent veen using vit c lately as my hyper pigmentation is mostly gone.
oils: MY OG HG is the ordinary sea buck thorn fruit oil. this basically healed my skin barrier completely and is an amazing product. i dont use it too much anymore as it did its job. now i use the lush full of grace naked skin oil bar and it is really nice, made with mushrooms n keeps my skin free or dry flaky patches.
toner: paula's choice salicylic acid glow toner, this is amazing!!! but i can only use it 1-2 times a week as my skin is very sensitive. and food grade rose water in 1 parts to water as a mist/spray.
face mask: my OG HG is the aztec secret indian healing clay mask mixed with braggs apple cider vinegar. i use this once a week- 2 weeks depending on how much/heavy my makeup has been. as well the Lush " beauty sleep" mask is a nice treat when i remember to get it.
deodorant: lush aromaco natural bar, this oddly enough had helped my skin breathe and be clear....anytime i use a commercial deodorant i get rashes on my face? idk but this has the best smell n i got ambrose hooked on it too lol.
lip balm: used to love the bite beauty lip mask but its hard to find now.... a lot of chapsticks really irritate the corners of my mouth :( but this knock off burts bees *beehive burst* is my favorite right atm, so creamy no irritation and really nice flavor/smell (using vanilla) otherwise my OG blistex DCT medicated (in the beige pot) is the best by far esp in winter. if u apply it on ur nose with a cold ur skin wont chap from blowing lol!
also: the biggest things i have noticed that have done my skin wonders have been * quitting smoking. * drinking water * taking allergy pills *using a humidifier gettin 8 hrs of sleep *using spf (after finally finding 1 that agreed with my skin. ) i am almost 40 so my skin is still changing and i plan on staying au natural (no filler or surgical enhancing) so no matter what i will age, the goal is to do it gracefully.

My Skin Care Routine
For clear, clean, glossy skin, I like to keep my skin care routine simple. Lately, I’ve been trying to live by “less is more”, so I try to use as little products as possible with my routine.
Here’s what I use daily:
- Face wash: I usually try different face washes, but my favorites have become the Alba Botanica acne site scrub or the Acure facial cleanser
- Hyaluronic acid: it’s a must for hydrating your skin! I would recommend any hyaluronic acid for all skin types
- Moisturizer: to seal in that hydration I use Simple Replenishing moisturizer in the daytime and Simple Sleeping Cream at night. I also enjoyed using Acure’s 12 hour moisturizer
- Eye cream: I can be sensitive when it comes to eye creams, but Elf’s Holy Hydration eye cream has been working well for me and I don’t have an allergic reaction to it
- Gua Sha: to drain lymph and keep my face structured, I use it twice a day
Once a week, I use:
- Facial scrub: Acure’s brightening facial scrub is AMAZING. My skin is so smooth every time I use it
- Face mask: I either use the Acure brightening face mask or the Indian Healing Clay. Both make my skin feel amazingly smooth afterwards, but the Aztec clay will make your skin feel pretty dry after using, so be mindful of that.
Links for everything I use can be found here.

Anyone have recommendations for super low spoon simple skin care stuff for acne? I'm nearly 9 months on T and while it's been getting bad I'm mostly concerned about some painful cystic shit that it looks like I'm getting on my face
#i made a basic mask with baking soda and local honey and washed my face super good#but like yall im starting from scratch#is like that aztec clay stuff good? my freshman roommate used that#and i probably need a moisturizer#i have combination type skin i know that#also any advice for bad acne on back and shoulders would be great that's been going on longer and it's not fun#its just more painful and annoying and visible on my face you know#i know a lot of skin care is a hoax does anyone have advice#oh i did order some cheap korean face masks in a multipack idk what they do if anything they were super cheap but they're hydrating#and a nice self care thing

🎀30 Day Glow Up Challenge🎀 - day twelve
♡ Mindset : today I relaxed and didn’t put too much pressure on myself when it comes to my schedule. I started work later so I woke up an hour later.
♡ Health : I had the chicken salad again it was so goodddd. I want to buy feta cheese tomorrow to add to the salad to make it taste even better. I woke up and worked out before work and I hit 4K steps while running errands after work.
♡ Self Care : I hate hormonal acne I usually get pimples before my period but they’ve arrived after but I’ve been doing my skincare consistently and I started doing a Aztec clay mask once a week on Sundays.
♡ Experience : not much to share today but I plan on recipe keeping during the weekend and planning my baking bucket list for the summer time I’m super excited.
Tell me how you’re doing babes I would love to know my inbox and requests are open<33333

some actually good tips for acne
from someone who has diagnosed severe cystic acne and has had it since fifth grade (note! what works for me might not work for you! that’s how skin works!)
1. don’t pop the zit. don’t. trust me! it just pushes the gross pimple juice further down into your skin and across, so you end up with more pimples! if you just care about how it looks, it makes your skin red and irritated, and the pimple will now have a nice layer of oil on it no matter how many times you dry it. if you MUST pop (i get it, trust me), wash your hands, don’t use your nails - use the pad of your finger, and put an ice cube on it after!
2. the aztec clay mask works bro, 1-2x a week
3. put down the st. ives exfoliate!!! it might make your skin look and feel cleaner, but it actually is tearing your skin. it makes healing acne scars more difficult and honestly kinda hurts
4. if you can’t find a moisturizer that doesn’t break you out, try aloe vera! i’ve used it for about two years and swear by it. not the stuff for sunburns with the added chemicals n stuff, the straight up stuff. you can get it on amazon (amazon sucks, i know, but this is the only thing i get from there) for like $8. 90% and higher aloe is the best!
5. change your pillow case! i change mine once a week, but if your acne is less severe try once every 2 weeks
6. on a similar note, if you wear makeup, wash your brushes! not just with water, get an actual makeup brush soap. also, if you use a beauty blender/sponge, switch it out every month. it can get mold in it. i learned this the hard way
7. if you can afford it, go see a dermatologist. i went to see one for the first time a few weeks ago and it was a game-changer
and with that, i leave you also, wear sunscreen. it’s not an acne thing, just a smart thing to do

I did the Aztec Clay Mask 7 Day Challenge
My skin like everyone’s isn’t always perfect, there are some times where it is impeccable and then most of the time I usually have like a baby pimple (the universe trying to humble me.) So I’m always in search of things that’ll help. I already knew that using this mask was good for you, and I owned my own tub of this stuff but never really used it because of issues I had with it. But then I was…

Has anyone ever tried this? Did it work? Did you have any skin issues? Did you like it? I've only used it once so far and will use it again tonight. This is the last thing I'm trying before resorting to a dermatologist for my acne
