Oct-Nov '24 Braids:
First post on the new Tumblr. I'm going to be structuring my posts around my hairstyles so they'll either have to do with a style I would like to do or am currently doing, or have just recently finished. Hopefully it makes more sense as you continue reading (if He wills it). So without further ado, here are Spiders and Orchids on my head :):
I learned how to braid my hair in 2018 while I was in college because it was too expensive to keep trying to get it done, especially because I love getting new styles. It was slow work at first ( + deeply humbling to move through the world with only your wits and the 26 braids you managed to put on your head) and will try to find some pics from that time. It's taken a while since then but I'm better with the more technical side of braiding which includes constantly remapping a grid pattern the geometry of my head will accept (it is constantly changing), standardizing the size of my braids, bending my knee and bowing my head to Color Theory, and getting better at noticing with my hands.
SWBAT ('student' will be able to):
The esoteric goal of this hairstyle was to capture three things that terrify me and do a bit of 'exposure therapy' through my first favorite medium (hair). I chose spiders, orchids, and Mitski's "Bug like an Angel" [Specifically the line 'Well, when you break them, they break you right back.' ]
The technical goals I used to integrate those esoteric learnings into a material medium: Small Individual braids, Intentional Grid Design (esp. for the back of my head), Color Matching/Being playful with color
The Overall End Goal was to have a more literal command over things that scare me on an existential level. Not to do away wholly the fear, but to invite it to play a better role in my day to day. Spiders used to scare me because of the Legs and the vague notion that it will not be a man at the end of time, but a spider. Anansi the Spider stories also did their Big One on me before I ever had a chance to fight back. I find them beautiful and they used to scare me because I felt as though they might use that against me given the chance (I actually kinda look for them now because when I kill a fly in my room, I don't want to waste its life with a trash bin). Orchids were scary to me because of their fickleness. It was scary to think something might take such careful work to become beautiful only to die under very mundane circumstances. And I don't think I need to explain the knife that is Bug Like an Angel and broken promises.
The Process:
Start: Sept. 23. 2024 to End: Oct. 19. 2024
Started on my hair about four days after I took it down from my last style. I like to do my take down and clarifier wash back to back, then let my hair rest. I'm currently deeply jobless so that is easy to let happen, but in the past I had gotten used to squeezing braiding into a three day process. This style took a lot longer than what has now become more normal for me (four- five day process bc I honor my rest now) because I got a tooth infection that needed antibiotics and a lot more stuff got in my way. In true esoteric fashion, the style came- as within- so without + as in you, so in me. I had to confront all those fears in my own real life before I could finish the hair style and really lay them to rest.
Clarifier Wash: Washed my hair twice with Dawn Dish Soap and did an Aztec Clay mask (Clay, honey, ACV, grapeseed and avocado oil). My last set of braids were also tiny, and I've noticed that I find the extra small braids to be better for promoting thickness in my hair (my hair is naturally on the finer side). Not sure if that is actually true- just something I noticed to seem true for me. Anyway, those tiny braids tend to collect dirt way easier and I used Blue Magic which also attracts a bit more misc. lint to my hair so the double wash of dawn was more than necessary to really clean my scalp which almost sputtered an inhale at the end of wash day. I've decided to only use blue magic when my do is closer to its demise and switch my normal shampoo for something a little stronger so it gets through the braids on wash days.
Materials for Braids: Some left over red, rust brown, and platinum blonde. And my hairs natural black color (I DID bleach my hairline in June which has helped me Lock In color theory wise). I would give the hair color numbers but these packs had been switched from their original packagings and kept in my closet for a year so I just don't really know. I used this same red last year all over my head, and the brown too. The blonde came from earlier this year from a previous style. Again, deeply jobless so I really tried to use what I have laying around and rely more on the grid pattern and length to offset the lack of cohesion in terms of color. I really liked the idea of making it look a little gory in the way of 'blood, fat, and marrow' to better capture the feeling of fear that spiders specifically evoke in me. That feeling that you will be consumed, past flesh- bones and all.
Materials Con't: Rubber bands, rat tail combs, brush, blowdryer, hair bands, beeswax edge control, duckbill clips, a great and faithful bonnet, two handheld mirrors and a large room mirror. Mango butter, vanilla oil stuff, and grapeseed oil in the water I used to set the braids at the end for a nice smell :).
Process:
This is where I have to pretend the process was not as bad as it actually was lmao. The physical act of braiding is tiring, I wasn't feeling well (emotionally or physically), and it was so much work for the pay out to just be having my hair done. There are a couple places where I really compromised with myself and didn't mind the parting too much but because I was really exacting with the bigger shapes I was unwilling to change.
What I really enjoyed (near the end) was becoming more spider in my weavings as the foundation was laid out, I got more playful with how much blonde and red I would incorporate into one braid and the braids were pretty long too before I set them. While I was braiding I thought the most obvious idea would be to keep them down my back and to my ass and really lean into the "ghastly" energy of these colors. So I braided each braid down to the end, only to chop it off after setting them because what I learned about fear was that it's important to keep only enough.
Thanks for reading!

Self Care 101 🦋
In this post I’ll be outlining my current routines as they relate to self care. I’ll cover everything from head to toe making sure not to skip your spirit. You cannot be a girl of ANYONE’S dreams if you aren’t taking care of the most important person in your world: you.
mornings:
wash face with gentle cleanser from curology, tone with organic Mamonde rose water and finish with rich moisturizer and spf30
brush teeth with activated charcoal toothpaste by Crest and baking soda for whitening and gum clarity
take vitamins : woman’s one a day, hair skin nails, biotin, vitamin c
drink glass of water then a cup of tea
black tea, raw cane sugar, a lemon slice, ginger
good for energy, immune function, and detox
showers:
this may sound so extra (😅), but depending on my hairstyle, I sometimes like to let the shower run for about five minutes with the door closed to create a sauna effect. this is especially if I have a mask on my hair.
my showers usually are about 20-30 minutes
I have a back brush, pink exfoliating gloves, a loofah, and tree hut body scrubs and I use them ALL.
I wash first with my dove beauty bar to assure clean skin before washing with EITHER my OGX Shea So Soft body wash or Dove Renewing Peony and Rose Oil body wash to add scent or silkiness to my skin.
hair removal:
I haven’t yet mastered the art of waxing myself so I’m still riding the shave wave. *when I do I’ll make a post 4 that*
I exfoliate throughly before AND after shaving
I shave my entire body using Tree Hut Shaving Oil and a nice conditioner I’m not using. This leaves my skin super soft and silky and helps the razor to glide without skipping. I use Gillette Venus. no less than five blades, anything less is ASKING for nicks and a hard time.
when I don’t feel like shaving, I use Nair. use at your own risk. yes, I Nair my ENTIRE BODY. only leaving it on for about 7 minutes I rinse in WARM (not hot) water and exfoliate afterwards. it is imperative to moisturize after to avoid irritation. however, Nair is much easier to do than shaving and seems to last an inkling longer.
after shaving, once a month, I pull out my KENZZI. it’s an IPL device and it has helped to slow the growth of my hair. it’s noticeable for us long, thick haired chicks. I use the second to lowest setting as a melanated babe, as the higher settings could burn me.
I know many endorse the hair on women movement and I can understand it. But I personally love my skin silky, hairless, and smooth.
nights:
after eating dinner, I wash my face and apply the tiniest bit of glycolic serum and my curology night cream. my skin has been the best it’s been in a few years. then I brush my teeth and rinse with peroxide.
every four days I give myself a facial
my favorite face masks:
The Ordinary Salicylic Acid mask
The Ordinary AHA + BHA mask
all Tony Moly sheet masks *luvvvvv those*
GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD clearing treatment *fav*
Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme mask
Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel mask
Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud mask
Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Gel mask
ORIGINS Clear Improvement mask
An at home honey and aloe mask
I apply a rich facial moisturizer and get to bed.
I then write in my planner my new plans and what I did that day if I hadn’t already. then after that I script and make mood boards in my diary. then I read a little. currently reading: Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin, and Live Like a hot Chick by Jodi Lipper.
emotions:
I talk to my grandmother about my feelings, she helps me sort things out. please try to find one person you trust to talk to, my messages are always open. 💓 I often overthink. I suffer from anxiety and clinical depression. sometimes these things make me FEEL limited. these experiences wax and wane. I remind myself that the darkness is temporary.
I write in my diary what I feel and track my emotions for potential patterns. I don’t manufacture or sugar coat my feelings, I just talk.
sometimes you need a good cry. let it out. clean your slate. you’ll always feel better, sometimes great after a hard, deep sobbing cry.
I try to get out of the house and get some sunlight. it helps brighten my mood sometimes.
baths:
LOVE taking baths I don’t care what the status quo is about dirt. just rinse off. I love wrapping my hair up and soaking in warm-hot water.
first I run the water. as it’s running I add my bubble bath, then body wash, then my Shea Moisture fragrant coconut oil. it smells soooo good, literally yummy. then I inevitably scream from dipping my toe in the hot water. finally I get in, scrub down my body, emphasis on feet. then I wash, and just relax. I’ve even fallen asleep in the tub once, I was so zen.
careful not to soak too long or overdo it with your products. synthetic materials lingering in your lady bits for too long cause cause infections like bv or uti
some women add tea tree oil, acv, or even Aztec clay to their baths for wellness purposes. I love adding essential oils to my baths to relax and the natural scent is just great 🥺
when I get out I always put something that feels lush and soft on. *invest in super soft, comfy bath towels, they’ll make you feel so luxurious and soft after a nice relaxing bath*
flower:
the yoni is something sensitive that needs to be taken care of thoroughly, and differently than the rest of your body. it’s not recommended to use soaps down there, it can unbalance things and make you itch. also make you prone to infection. this is why I use clear warm water to clean. if I use soap it’s a sensitive, gentle formula. don’t ever try to clean the cavity. she’s a self cleaning vessel.
to shave, I trim my hair down as close as possible and use a FIVE BLADE razor with conditioner and take my time. making sure not to pass a spot twice, I apply moderate pressure and move slowly. when finished I rinse and scrub gently. I PAT not rub dry. to finish off I apply TendSkin, and salicylic acid to avoid ingrowns. once that’s soaked in I apply shea butter. very soft and pretty 🌸
⚠️ DO NOT PUT ON TIGHT PANTIES OR RIGHT PANTS AFTER SHAVING. it restricts the hairs and causes irritation and ingrowns. throw on some comfy loose shorts for a while, let it breathe
dietary needs:
drink plenty of water
cranberry juice
vitamin c
minimal red meat
probiotics
at home vagacial for the high maintenance girlies:
*make any necessary extractions with pointed and slanted tweezers *
scrub:
brown sugar, tea tree oil, a little shea butter
exfoliating and anti inflammatory
mask:
baking soda, fresh lemon juice, vitamin e oil, papaya juice, gelatin
fixes discoloration and brightens the skin while softening
moisturize:
aloe vera gel, rose hip seed oil
smelling sweet:
ah yes, my favorite part. I love fragrance so much. I love to smell like you could literally break off a piece of me and eat it.
I find that using fragrant washes and oils make your scent more strong and help it linger. I already mentioned the body washes I use. the tree hut scrubs I use smell amazing also. I alike to add essential oils and man made scents like strawberry and chocolate to my Shea Moisture oil (so yummy).
I also use a fragrant lotion, eau de parfum, and fragrance mist.
here’s a list of some of my favorites:
perfumes:
jimmy choo fever
coach floral blush
yves saint laurent mon paris
victoria’s secret bombshell
victoria’s secret scandalous
valentino
fragrance mists:
victoria’s secret velvet petals, pure seduction, warm and cozy
bath and body works a thousand wishes, fiji pineapple palm, warm vanilla sugar, black raspberry vanilla
oils:
coconut
sweet almond
peppermint
chocolate scented essential oil
strawberry scented essential oil
orange
grapefruit
eucalyptus
sweetest combo ever:
vanilla extract, coconut oil, shea butter, and your favorite perfume. you’ll be smelling like a warm cupcake with extra sprinkles and icing 🧁
layering:
oil, lotion, eau de parfum, mist
pulse points:
inside elbows and knees, in between thighs, inner arms, behind ears, back of neck, ankles
hair:
it’s super important to keep your hair moisturized. quenched tresses move, grow, shine and bounce. dry hair is limp, lackluster, and extremely fragile
my fav diy deep conditioner:
a banana, half an avocado, three spoons of honey, an egg, a spoonful of mayo, a spoonful of coconut, olive, and castor oil each
strength from egg, avocado, mayo and olive oil
moisture from avocado and honey
cover damp CLEAN hair and scalp in mixture and cover with a plastic bag, then towel for an hour, rinse thoroughly, and seal in moisture
fav hair products:
castor oil
fusionplex conditioner and mask
Aussie conditioner
wella goji berry mask
coconut oil
style booster edge control
helpful tips:
when shampooing, concentrate on the scalp and wash thoroughly twice, as the suds will naturally cleanse your stands without drying and stripping them
rinse hair with apple cider vinegar every now and then. it restores your ph balance, smooths the cuticle, clarifies the strands, and adds shine
always add oil and leave ins to DAMP hair, never dry; this will ensure you’re sealing in moisture
try to use smooth fabrics to dry your hair, bath towels encourage frizz and breakage
hands and feet:
and last but not least, let’s cover manicuring and pedicuring.
it’s super important to make sure your nails are either DONE or filed, shaped, and smooth. at home maintenance is super easy. make a point to scrub your hands and feet well when bathing. make sure to stay on top of your cuticles by trimming or pushing them back. I like the look that pushing them gives. I use an orangewood stick, metal pusher and cuticle softener to make the process super easy and safe. after I’m done I add my pineapple scented cuticle oil. I do this on my fingers and toes.
invest in a rasp and pumice stone for your feet and use these gently every two weeks after soaking them in warm foot salts. rough usage can cause cuts and irritation. in between treatments keep your feet soft by slathering them in a moisturizing foot cream, cocoa/shea butter then oil to seal it all in. buy some soft thick aloe infused socks and wear them to sleep. you’ll thank me 😉
for info on how I do my nails click this
well, that’s all I’ve got. I truly hope you enjoyed my post! it’s always fun sharing my advice with you all. any feedback is appreciated and question is welcomed ♡

Any tips to smell good?
Smelling Good All Day
SHOWER!! Actually cleanse yourself with a rag, exfoliating gloves/loofah. Use a cleansing soap (dove bar soap, black soap, liquid castile soap are my faves). Scrub your body from head to toe and later yourself up like so and then rinse off the soap. Follow with a scrub if you’d like then shave if you that’s what you like. Shaving for me helps my body to stay moisturized for longer because the product penetrates better into my skin if there’s no hair, but it’s not a must. Follow with your fave scented body wash! I like the ones by Dove, Olay and Softsoap.
Moisturize! The scented products that you’ll put on after will last longer on your skin if you’re moisturized. I like using cocoa butter and nivea’s 48 hour lotion.
Never forget to wear deodorant. I personally like the dove spray antiperspirant but I am trying to switch to natural deodorants. I like The Native deodorant in cucumber & mint for the nighttime and the dove spray for the daytime. If you have problems keeping your armpits fresh, try exfoliating and doing a detox mask with aztec clay!
Clean your ears with q tips. Use a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol to clean the back and around your ears if you didn’t do so in the shower.
Layer your scents! Use matching body lotions with your perfumes or use ones that compliment each other best. This will help you to hold that scent for the entire day!
Keep your lotions, deodorant and sprays in your bag for touch ups.
Wear clean clothing. It defeats the purpose of wearing all of these nice perfumes if your clothes are smelly/dirty. Keep up with doing your laundry and use nice smelling detergents, fabric softeners. I love to use the downy unstoppable pebbles! They leave your clothing smelling so nice for a while. You can also use bounce fabric sheets in your dryer for added smell.
With all these tips, you’ll be smelling extra fresh and clean:)

natural hair care list and beauty must haves?
Natural Hair list depends on what type of natural you are so as usual I’ll be comprehensive. My hair is really long and I’ve been natural for years so do what you will.
Braid Out / Twist / Wash and Go
Strong Holds for Summer
Aunt Jackie’s Curl Custard + Aunt Jackie’s Ice Curls ($15)
Cream of Nature Leave In + Cream of Nature Custard ($12)
Wetline Xtreme (only a few dollars) + A good Leave In — Camille Rose Naturals
-> To avoid crunchy gel I always use a bit of oil but it depends on your hair. Most of the time I don’t get crunchy with this combo but I always use oil just in general. And to avoid frizz I take down with argan or olive.
Curly Tips
1. Deep Condition with Heat, or Do a Hot Oil Treatment
2. Know your hair porosity...Hair type is fine but porosity is more beneficial over all. Even though I’m a looser texture, I still need to hydrate. Stop worrying about texture...
3. A good shampoo is important to use sometimes especially during summer.
4. Always test gel combos in your hand first to see if it’ll flake.
5. Be sure to trim...otherwise you’re making your hair break off. Mine doesn’t break cause I get regular trims and I also switch my hair up in braids during the summer to give it a rest from manipulation.
6. Pay attention to your hair and see what it needs. Moisture? Protein? Learn and educate yourself. Also, you don’t really need that many products as a natural...at least in my experience... eventually your hair will adapt and retain moisture for example. My hair is thick thick thick and low porosity!
Beauty Tips
1. Wash your face for 60 seconds otherwise it’s not penetrating your skin.
2. SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN! This is the biggest skincare secret. You need a good sunscreen. Your skin will be even and hyperpigmentation won’t be an issue.. SPF 30 at LEAST.
3. Always wash your makeup brushes, wash your sheets/pillowcases...
4. Lashes go a long way for a natural look. But if you don’t wear lashes, lip gloss or lipstick (what you prefer) goes a long way.
5. Must haves: a good skincare routine, a good sleep routine, a wellness routine, and hydration. I could recommend products all day but if you aren’t doing routines for yourself it’s useless. I don’t use that many skincare products because my skin has reached a flawless point after dedicating myself to a routine.
•A must have for me is sunscreen, retinol, serum, toner, and a cleanser. Cleanser -> toner -> serum -> moisturize -> spf then retinol only at night. I use Differin. Hyaluronic acid is good to have in your moisturizer as well and then CeraVe is perfect for moisturizers because it has Niacinamide which helps with hyperpigmentation if that is your issue... Retinol also helps hyperpigmentation and increases cell turnover.
•Castor oil is great for growing your lashes or eyebrows if you need to do that. I already have thick eyebrows but I know some people have sparse.
6. Good foundations must try: Nars Radiant (concealer too), Fenty line, Urban Decay, Maybelline Fit Me (drugstore), Milani Foundation 2 in 1 (drugstore)
7. Best lashes are typically found at Beauty supply lol and glosses...
More beauty plus Hygiene & health wise secrets:
•DENTAL routine - Crest 3D White line is immaculate. My smile is beaming... also brush that tongue and use the mouthwash. Don’t forget to floss...
•don’t always sleep with underwear, let your sister breathe lol
•Native Deodorant is a great natural deodorant if you want to avoid the ingredients in regular
•Exfoliating gloves
•Butters and oils give me glowing skin on top of my lotion (body)
•Yogurt is great if you need to promote digestion. Smoothies are amazing for your body as well. And if you add almond milk it’s even better. Or smoothie bowls are just good in general — açaí. I feel so clean after eating an açaí bowl.
•Aztec clay mask is great for your hair and skin. Double duty!
If you need something specific, just ask! 💕

haikyuu + skincare hcs
ever think abt how they treat their skin? probably not. but like. do they wash their face like a normal person? have a 32 step skincare routine maybe??
msg me for any character who’s not here and i’ll drop their routine for u
masterlist.
karasuno
sugawara. lives up to his title as mr. refreshing. cleanses, tones, and moisturizes. !chefs kiss! keeps a jar of aloe vera face gel in his fridge, his mom had a spare. carries around a 100-sheet pack of oil film, more out of habit than of need. good skincare just makes him feel in control of his life, ok
ennoshita. fuckin’ spotless. part of the 0.0001% who don’t sweat easily. doesn’t have a complete regimen but never skips out on cleansing and toning before bed. actually reads the product ingredients and googles the benefits before buying. neutrogena type of guy.
asahi. facial scrubs are his holy grail. like. dead skin? stubborn hair follicles? haha not on his watch ヾ( ・`⌓´・)ノ゙ trims his goatee every 3-4 week bc a well-groomed beard goes hand in hand with proper skincare. a sucker for aromatic products. lavender? shea butter? SOLD.
daichi. “healthy lifestyle is key to healthy skin“ typa dude. rly just thinks natural is the way to go. drinks 8 glasses of water, eats his veggies, exercises regularly, gets 8 hours of sleep. sounds like smth off wikihow if u ask me. probably is.
tsukishima. cetaphil hoe. brand loyalty embodied. on it for 5++ years, and never once considered switching. BUT. his routine ends at step 1. cleanse. and that’s it. the fuck he need a 32 step skincare routine for? long as he gets a day’s worth of grime and dirt off his face, he gucci
yamaguchi. sensitive skin’s got him constantly changing/exploring different products. rode on tsukki’s cetaphil agenda for the first few years of puberty (rly just out of curiousity) but dropped out when his skin got used to it. thinks pimple patches are a blessing to mankind.
tanaka. fuck. chaotic greasy. asks for oil film from suga just to stick it on his forehead, lets it stay there. uses whatever’s in the bathroom to wash off, aka majority of saeko’s products. got yelled at once to “get his greasy ass over here” and got slabbed with aztec healing clay mask. converted to clay mask hoe after 20 minutes. “mm this shit’s dope!”
nishinoya. fuck. chaotic greasy part ii. but make it baby face. only does skincare when chillin at the tanakas. homie got him to try the clay mask bc chick’s dig that. “bro, u mean the mask or boys who do the mask?” “both bro” “awshit bro gimme that” thinks splashing some water twice a week is enough
kageyama. ? this yalls mans? oblivious to the whole concept of skincare, only acknowledges general hygiene. uses whatever’s on the soap holder to wash his face. probably dove. doesnt really have much skin problems to begin with, only breaks out once a year. living proof that god has favorites.
hinata. only started taking skincare seriously that time a huge ass zit grew on his chin. yachi offered him her unfinished bottle of cosrx (she’s a hoarder and u kno it), and has since been giving him all her leftover bottles. basically gets to use good quality products for free smh
nekoma
kuroo. not very big on the idea of skincare per se, but supports any brand on that cruelty-free and vegan agenda. reads the product ingredients like a children’s book. “mm phenoxyethanol and retinyl palmitate.. i’ll take it.” always leaves the saleslady stunned.
kenma. too lazy to adopt a routine. but regularly uses his mom’s facial wash. you know. those mom brands. has a stash of facemasks from lev’s trip to korea —> only form of skincare he actually appreciates bc he can simultaneously play his games and be all bout dat self care
lev. abuses his perks of having a sister. casually uses all alisa’s imported, high end stuff. la prairie. estee lauder. la mer. and she doesn’t mind bc her “levochka deserves all the finest things”. boujee ass russians
yaku. baby face. when god made it rain collagen, he was freestylin in a pool full of it while we was all sleepin. doesn’t exert much effort, just cleanses and tones bc it’s part of proper hygiene. girls envy him. parents in their 40s wanna be him.
seijoh
oikawa. SKINCARE HOE KING. fuckin high maintenance. goes to the derma for his monthly laser facial treatment. on broke days, he settles for a diamond peel. skin so smooth it puts the entire female population to shame. spends his savings on those clinique eye creams. probably modeled for the face shop once
iwaizumi. homie reeks of male cleanser. might either dove men or nivea men. there’s no in between. oikawa internally screams everytime he witnesses his bff wash his face. two words. aggressive. rubbing. bordering on hostile he might actually skin his face off
mattsun and makki. fuck. drugstore cleansers. the ones that come in sachets. agreed to take turns in buying bundles for sharing. sometimes sneaks a pinch from oikawa’s clinique products when he’s not looking. haha dumb hoe. may have an addiction to charcoal nose pore strips just so they can compare blackheads
fukurodani
bokuto. buys whatever’s on sale idfk. genuinely wants to get on kuroo’s go green agenda but too lazy to look around the store. normally just uses the bubbles from his soap or shampoo. his belief: if it cleans his hands and his ass, then it can fuckin clean his face too
akaashi. healthy lifestyle + decent regimen = pretty skin. cleanses and tones. tried his mom’s aloe vera face gel once and got hooked. shit’s relaxing as hell. owns a bunch of facemasks, sometimes uses but keeps forgetting to take them off before falling asleep. uwu af
dateko
futakuchi. doesn’t have a routine cause “who tf needs that” and “obviously not me.” or so he says. secretly the biggest spender on skincare in all of dateko. owns a bunch of anti wrinkle products and probably one of those jade rollers. but no one needs to know that. just wants everyone to think he’s naturally pretty
aone. told by futakuchi that “knitting your brows too much causes premature wrinkles, but not like i’m an expert on that hhhahaha dont get me wrong.” can’t rly do anything bout it. he was born with that face. also buys whatever’s on sale
shiratorizawa
ushijima. surprisingly blemish free? but not entirely smooth? just spotless? basically a rock? never went past step 1: cleanse. never realized he’s been skipping out the 31 next steps. cetaphil hoe.
tendou. dry. crusty. compensates by sweating a lot through practice. might be effective if he’d stop leaving the foam on longer than recommended, thus leaving his skin dryer than his love life. yeah, i went there.
shirabu. flawless at first glance. until you lift those uneven ass bangs. tbh its nothing serious except “are we gonna ignore the fact that his whiteheads follow the shape of his bangs” as pointed out by tendou. uses whatever cleanser his mom buys for him
semi. decent skin care routine. a big boy who’s fairly knowledgeable on other brands outside cetaphil and dove/garnier/nivea men. takes him less than 5 minutes to pick a product bc he’s tried them all, knows what works, knows his skin type in and out. stan semi for clear skin.
see inarizaki + sakusa here

wait bro u know skin? can u be my friend who knows skin and can help me cus I don’t have any irl... my skin has gotten soo bad recently. I mostly break out along my hairline and jawline but also a lot on my cheeks and have been getting really bad stuff on my chest and shoulders all of a sudden too. I haven’t switched any shampoo/facewash or anything, same routine I’ve had for years and just use dr. bronners :( I use oil free acne wash like once a day or every few days and a light moisturizer. idk what else to do. I guess maybe antidepressants??? idk tho I’ve been on them for a while like 6 months and it just got bad like a month ago so idk if that’s it. I definitely pick my skin a LOT ik it’s bad but all of the pimples usually r just like whiteheads/eventually pop not usually cystic!!! help?!??!!? should I stick to a more regimented routine maybe ? I sometimes use the Aztec clay mask too!
my entire existence basically consists on being the friend who knows skin lmao
okay so let me rip the bandaid right away because this is going to bother you - castile soap is not safe for use on skin, and the aztec clay mask, while not unsafe, doesn’t do much for people with acne. so you ask if you should stick to a more regimented routine - that depends but definitely one without these components! yes i know people swear by these but trust me I wouldn’t tell my worst enemy to even go near castile soap lmao
ok so it seems to me that you have a combination of irritation because of the wrong products and closed comedones that are causing acne because of inadequate cleansing. first, the fact you haven’t changed your products in a while doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not the ones causing your irritation, you can “build up” an allergy over time. I had used normal nail polish for 17 years of my life every week without fail and without problem until one day it seemed like my face was gonna fall off, boom, contact dermatitis because of the formol in nail polish that had literally never been a problem before. I would rec you try to identify which product it is by taking them out one at a time so you can be sure which one it actually is - so like, switch your body wash one week. does your skin get better, especially the body acne? if it does, it’s the wash, if it doesn’t, then the next week you switch out your shampoo, etc, until you figure out which one is the culprit, then switch that out for the most neutral product you can find - preferably go to those marketed at sensitive skinned people, even if you’re not sensitive yourself, because they’re gonna be really gentle, and just try to let your skin breathe and soothe it until some of the inflammation goes down. I’m glad you already use a moisturizer, because dehydrated breakouts just won’t heal properly, and in that phase of figuring out where your skin actually wants to go it’s important to keep your moisture barier healthy. the placement of your breakouts in your hair/jawline + shoulders/chest seems to point in the direction that it’s one product that is inadequate, but also that you’re probably not cleansing your skin properly. to be clear i am NOT calling you dirty pls!! it’s just that products tends to build overtime in certain parts of our body, it’s natural that we sometimes will overlook some parts and in fact I used to deal with the same thing as you because I used to wash my body before my hair in the shower so conditioner would build up in my shoulders and I didn’t even realize. I think paying more attention to cleansing in those areas (GENTLY PLS I mean cleansing not sanding skin off) could be of great help to you, esp with your body acne. if you don’t use something like a loofah already it’s probably a good idea to start, and when you wash your face/body, make sure you do it after you’ve used any hair products. also, when you’re washing your face, you should be doing it for 60 secs at the very least (not more than 3 tho, just not necessary) so maybe it isn’t even that you’re missing spots, it’s a matter of paying a lil bit more love to those places. I think the solution to what you have is likely very simple and related to just finding a more adequate routine and by the description you gave I don’t think it’s linked to any hormonal imbalance which is lucky bc those are much harder to deal with! now u know you shouldn’t be popping your pimples even if they eventually pop naturally, I know you know this and I won’t sit here and lecture you bc I know it’s not as simple as just “welp, I’ll stop” but please try to make an effort to at least do it less often and to touch your face less in general. in short there is def one thing irritating your skin the most, figure out what that is and then help your skin recover from that with lots of LOOOVE and patience. in the future I also think a body wash/moisturizer with some sort of chemical exfoliant would be interesting to you as it is with most of us acne prone body peeps, but rn just think of being as gentle as you possibly can and keeping any stress to a minimun!! I tried to give an overall view but if you want to ask anything more specific feel free to ask and I will try my best to help <3

Section #1: Beauty Must-Haves
(Body): Summer is all about having a smooth, hairless, soft, poreless, shiny body to rock revealing clothing pieces such as shorts and tank tops. Below is a list of summer beauty must-haves to have that ideal skin.
Nair Hair Removal Cream (Aloe Oil or Cocoa Butter): I talked about this before. This is definitely an essential for any areas on your body that needs to be shaved ASAP. It’s a cream that you simply just rub on any areas on your body, wait five to ten minutes, rinse your body off with water (or just take a shower) and boom, you’re hairless and soft! Way easier than shaving that results in razor bumps/cuts.
Tree Hut Honey and Shea Butter Exfoliator: GREAT for using after shaving! Using exfoliating gloves ($3-$4 or cheaper) with this exfoliator can help with getting rid of strawberry legs as well!
Shea Butter: I only use fragrance lotions for smelling purposes, not for moisturizing purposes. Shea butter is super convenient for sensitive skin such as mine! This can get rid of stretch marks, help diminish black spots, and even can help with pimples/marks on your body. Not only this, but it helps as it relates to having your skin GLOW! If you don’t have a stash of shea butter all summer ‘19, you’re missing out.
Baby Oil: I mentioned this before as well. I use to have a “baby body care products” kick and used baby products and they made my skin feel so SOFT. Putting baby oil on your legs (or body in general) after you shave is heaven.
Kojic Acid Soap: CLUTCH! If you have any dark spots on your body or hyperpigmentation, get this (Amazon and eBay). I used this one summer for a whole month and my somewhat dark elbows were completely GONE. This is the plug for a super affordable price.
Sally Hansen Airbrush Leg Illuminator: We rocking shorts/mini-shirts all summer so our legs have to be up to par! I used Sally Hansen’s leg “makeup” for two summers straight to give my legs a more bronze look and it worked amazing! Even if you have scars on your legs and want to diminish stretch marks, this product is really essential.
Fragrances and Perfumes: My personal summer favorite perfumes is Juicy Couture’s Viva La Juicy perfume and Victoria’s Secret’s Bombshell Paradise perfume! I like subtle smelling perfumes during the summer that aren’t too harsh. If you want to literally glow and sparkle this summer, I would 10/10 recommend Victoria Secret’s Shimmer Body Mist/Lotion. This will literally have you glowing all day! As for body soaps, I would recommend again, Victoria’s Secret’s Coconut Oil Soap or even Softsoap Sheabutter Body Wash.
Nails and Feet: I like to go all out as it relates to my nails during the summer in particular. The essential nail colors for the summers are light-based colors; French tip, white, Tiffany blue, pink, and red (a personal favorite, red can go with every season). White toe-polishes are so well-talked about put the color can honestly make your toes look well-groomed and fresh, so this color is definitely a must for my toes. PUHLEASE don’t walk around in nice sandals this summer with crusty toenails/no polish on your toes!
(Skincare): Summer is the season for makeup-less days! It’s to embrace your natural beauty and in order to do that, you need to make sure your skincare regiment is up to par. I use simple cleansers and toners, but here are a couple of products I use frequently during the summer.
Aztec Healing Clay: This is literally a detox to your skin. Putting a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in this face mask will detoxify your skin. This mask is strong, would suggest only doing this two times a week. ($6-$10 eBay or Amazon).
Glam Glow Face Mask: THIS is another face mask that is just amazing! It gets really messy which is kind of a turnoff and isn’t as strong as the Aztec Healing Clay. It’s totally worth the price of $25!!
St.Ives Blemish Control Exfoiliator: This exfoliator has mixed reviews, but for me personally it works wonders. Just like the Aztec healing clay, I wouldn’t recommend using this consistently throughout the week (maybe once a week) but it does help with getting rid of unwanted blemishes on your face.
Section #2: Accessories Must-Haves
(Shoes): Rhinestones and cheetah print are in, finding these two prints/materials as it relates to shoes will give you that glammed, girly effect.
Fur Slides: This was big last year and still is in my opinion. Good for casual purposes. I love wearing these during the summer with loungewear outfits, they’re super cute and comfortable.
Rhinestone-Embellished Sandles: These are so cute! Even rhinestone flip flops are very in-style. Like I said above, rhinestones are IN!
Strappy Heels: I use to hate strappy heels where the laces wrap around your legs, but these are super cute to wear during the summer with a dress or even with jeans. Slides are cute, but it’s essential to at least have three to four pair of summer heels. I will be having these heels in fun, neon-based colors such as pink, black, and white.
Wedges: These type of heels are also surprisingly in-style this season. They’re very 2006-like, but stores sell wedges in cute styles that are very affordable. If you’re not able to walk in four-inch heels, then a wedge heel is a good start-off shoe.
Nike Air Max Sneakers: These are definitely a summer essential of mine. I have the design with the leopard print on the sides with the color red! Sneakers are a seasonal type of shoe, allowing you to dress any outfit up or down.
(Jewelry/Other):
Gold Bangles: The layered gold bangle look will be a style I will be rocking! Bangles are super fun, chic, and affordable.
Body Jewelry: The rhinestone embellished body chains are back in! It’s a huge throwback from the early 2000′s generation (and a bunch of video vixens wore belly chains as well). Supah cute to wear with crop tops or even a bathing suit.
Anklets: Something else I will def be rocking this summer with slides/sandals. The rhinestone embellished anklets are v/ cute. I purchase these from Fashion Nova (probably the only piece of costume jewelry I have).
Rings: Having my nails done with one ring to go on a few fingers is also something that is essential for me (not even just for the summer, every season in general).

I figured I’d get in on the hair convo and drop some knowledge! So I know you said that you can’t go long without washing your hair, but it’s actually not good to wash it that often, as the shampoo strips all the natural oils from your hair (which are needed to keep it healthy) and conditioner doesn’t really restore them, just untangles your hair. Overwashing dries out the scalp, which kicks your sebaceous glands into overdrive, making them produce more oil which makes you feel the need 1/4
to wash more often. All that washing means that those natural oils never travel down the length of your hair shaft to moisturize it, and using heat tools depletes the moisture even more. And also it can cause a lot of build up in your hair because most conditioners have stuff in it that doesn’t really sink into the strands, just sits on top. You can easily fix that with clarifying shampoo/conditioner (there’s also DIYs online that you can look up) and as for the oily scalp/dry hair 2/4
you can use a clay mask on your hair (like the Indian/Aztec healing clay) and you can try not conditioning your scalp for a while to see if that helps. I would really recommend switching to a natural brand for your hair care, it really helps in the long run, but idk where you live and I know they can get kinda pricey. Also: any hair dye you use regardless of if it’s permanent or semi permanent is gonna change color over time, wether it’s fading or oxidation, because in the end it’s a dye 3/4
and nothings really permanent in terms of hair except for your natural color. PSA for everyone: IF YOURE USING PANTENE. STOP. PLEASE. YOUR HAIR WILL THANK ME. Yeah it might smooth your hair and make it shiny, but it’s doing that by coating your strands in wax/plastic (which obviously does not belong in hair). Wow that was lengthy, but the more you know, right? 4/4
i know, i wouldn't be washing my hair this often if i didn't have bangs :-( my bangs just get so oily and gross by the end of the day and i just look like severus snape :/ i usually don't condition my scalp tho!!!
how do you use hair masks tho?? don't you have to use them in the shower? cos i imagine if you use it outside it gets rly messy!!!

SKIN CARE TIPS
hello fellow struggling humans!! after like 7 years of struggling with acne I have finally managed to figure out what works best for me and I’m nearing the point where I feel comfortable enough to leave the house without wearing foundation (which is huge for me). I don’t have progress pics unfortunately but I do have a few tips/products for what helped me clear up my acne + scarring. ALSO SKIN CARE IS FOR EVERYONE NOT JUST WOMEN PLS.
you can add things like turmeric, tea tree oil, or apple cider vinegar to practically any of the things i listed below. turmeric helps with inflammation and lightening dark spots, tea tree oil helps fight acne, and ACV helps restore the natural pH of your skin + remove dead skin.
Products I love and would 10/10 recommend:
1) Aztec Healing Clay-
THIS STUFF IS MAGICAL ya’ll!!! I use it once or twice a week before a shower and apply it to my face, neck, chest, and back and I saw immediate results. It really helped lessen the appearance of my scarring and I could literally feel dirt and oil being taken out of my skin. You can mix it with water of ACV. Make sure you have a good moisturizer or hydrating toner to apply afterwards because it dries out your skin a little. (i applied the mask and then sat down to type this out that’s how much i love it)
2) Innisfree Sheet Masks-
Another amazing product!!!!! It’s a little on the pricier side compared to other sheet masks (almost a dollar per mask) but TRUST ME it’s the best sheet mask I’ve used. I usually use this after the aztec clay to hydrate my skin and save the leftover serum in the package to apply the next day.
Amazon has other cheaper options (any Korean skin care products usually do the trick for me)!! but don’t bother buying sheet masks from Sephora, Ulta, etc- they’re unnecessarily pricey and you can buy the same brands online. I would however avoid brands that are heavily scented because they have extra chemicals.
3) Dead Sea Mud Mask-
I really like this mask because it helps cleanse my skin and leaves it reallllyyy soft afterwards! I usually use this once a week and mix some turmeric into it.
4) Olay Overnight Mask
HYDRATION HYDRATION HYDRATION my skin feels so soft and healthy (and looks smoother and clearer) the morning after i use this
5) African Black Soap-
I replaced my body wash with this soap and use an exfoliating glove to scrub in the shower! That helps get rid of dead skin without drying out your skin. It’s also not heavily scented like other bars of soap or body washes which is better for your skin. I’ve noticed a visible change in my skin- brighter, softer, and smoother- since i’ve started using this in the shower.
6) Arabica Coffee Scrub
Ok if shaving/waxing leaves your arms and legs with ingrown hairs or bumps, this would work really well for you!! I use this on my arms and legs in the shower and feel like it has really helped make my skin smoother and less prone to bumps
7) Mario Badescu Drying Lotion-
GETS RID OF ACNE OVERNIGHT I PROMISE YOU. I’ve never found a more effective spot treater!! HOWEVER, I would highly advise to only use this with extremely annoying pimples that won’t go away (and only once or twice a week) because you skin builds up a tolerance to this and then it stops being so effective. Use a q-tip to apply to active acne.
8) The Face Shop- Rice Water Cleansing Foam
this is what I use daily to wash off my makeup - I try to avoid makeup wipes because it’s really rough on your skin. I’ve found that this face wash is really effective in washing off even the most cakey makeup but don’t use it it for eye makeup bc it burns!! For eye makeup I’d recommend using coconut oil and cotton balls (better for your lashes than makeup remover :-)
In addition to alternating between these products I also make my own face mask with turmeric, gram flour, and tea tree oil!!
May your skin be clear and radiant <3333

Current Skincare Routine (as of January 2018)
AM:
As shocking as it may seem, I don’t wash my face in the morning. I don’t really feel like it’s necessary for my skin, but I’m sure it works for other people. I don’t even use micellar water! I give a quick spritz with rosewater instead.
Then, I moisturize my forehead with Shieseido Pureness Moisturizing Gel-Cream (I got mine for ten bucks at marshall’s I’m not paying forty bucks for forehead moisturizer). My forehead gets a tad oily by the end of the day and it’s also very… prominent, so this keeps it nice and natural— not oily, not dry, just right.
I moisturize the rest of my face with Mizon wonder cream.
PM:
If I’m wearing makeup (which I don’t usually do), then I remove it with either Garnier Micellar Water, IT cosmetics cleansing balm, chamomile oil, or Clinique Makeup Removing Gel (discontinued). The job I had over the holidays required me to wear character makeup that consisted of a Lot of greasepaint and glitter, so removing my makeup alone took ten minutes.
The facewash I use is from a little local soap store that does a lot of work with essential oils (classes, massages, etc). It’s a charcoal wash, and whenever I get my bottle refilled I as for a few drops of tea tree oil to be added. I’m not super acne prone but I do get breakouts occasionally. The real selling point of this product is that the base isn’t water— it’s aloe vera juice! This has never made my skin feel dry and tight after using it, and is very balancing.
I tone with rosewater (sprayed directly on my face). The bottle I have now is from Olivia’s Organics ($7 at Marshall’s), but I have a new one on the way with culinary rosewater. It’s not organic but it’s like less than half the price soo
Depending on how my skin is feeling, I sometimes use Pixi glow tonic on a cotton pad instead, when my skin is feeling dull and unexfoliated. It’s nice and gentle but a tiny bit astringent compared to the rosewater.
I put on a thin layer of skinfood aloe vera gel. This keeps my face from drying out while I towel off/wrap my hair up/put on my PJs, because I usually wash my face in the shower.
After I’m all dressed, I apply a thin layer of Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum, once every two or three days. It’s pricey but definitely worth it. It only takes three drops to cover my whole face (one per cheek and one for my forehead). I got a used bottle (from a relative, don’t worry) that was about ¾ full, maybe a little less, and I’ve been using it consistently for at least six months and I’m nowhere near running out.
Recently (as in the past week), I’ve actually been mixing the serum with my moisturizer, both to dilute it a bit and to save time (this bitch is TIRED I wanna go to bed). In a teeny tiny tubberware I put a dropper full of serum and a few generous squirts of sweet almond oil. I shake it up every night before I use it and it seems to work like a charm! With this, though, I am applying it every day. I haven’t noticed a problem from it, though.
Then I put on a generous amount of sweet almond oil. This oil is super gentle and non-irritating. Argan oil bothered me because of the smell, but sweet almond oil has never caused me a problem with breakouts or anything. On days where my skin is feeling super tender, I’ll just wash it and put this on (maybe with a layer of bag balm over top if my face is really dry). I usually squirt out as little as I can (the top on this bottle is not the best), which is typically a quarter sized amount in my cupped palm. I put as much as I feel I need to on my face, using about ¾ of it, and then I rub the rest into my arms, legs, or chest.
Then I put a layer of Mizon wonder cream on it. I skip this step in the summer.
Every 2-3 days (less in the summer), I replace the wonder cream with a full pump of cera ve moisturizing lotion mixed with a bit of lac-hydrin 5 lotion. Don’t put the lac-hydrin 5 directly on your skin, because it WILL burn. My dermatologist recommended it to me for my eczema (if using it for that, mix it about 1:3 with cera ve moisturizing cream so it won’t be too strong). It’s an AHA lotion (the active ingredients are lactic acid mixed with ammonium hydroxide to balance the pH). An 8 ounce bottle runs about $20, but it lasts a loooong time, and this generic brand is the same price for 14 ounces. I get it from my local family owned drug store but I’m sure big name stores have it too.
Masks:
Daytime masks:
I typically use the aztec secret indian healing clay stuff, mixed with apple cider vinegar. I rinse it off after 10-15 minutes bc I’m dryyyyy
If I don’t have the energy to grab two different ingredients, a bowl, and a spatula, I just use the Dead sea mineral mud mask. It works great and smells so good for some reason? It has a ton of really great ingredients. The base is aloe juice and other ingredients include dead sea mud, kaolin clay, seaweed extract, plankton extract, and algae.
After washing and drying my face, I sometimes spray on a few extra squirts of rosewater and then apply the Fresh Rose face mask. I leave this on for about 15-20 minutes because I’ve got shit to do and I usually forget I have it on. It feels so soothing and the scent is amazing. Makes me glow!
Lowkey sometime’s I’ll do this as a sleeping mask over my oil, but just make sure you wash it off in the morning bc you’ll be colored a little weirdly if you don’t. I forget a lot lol
The Bliss triple energizing oxygen mask ($10 at Marshall’s) makes your skin look really good but it tickles so much that I usually take it off before the five minutes is up. It does smell really good tho
Sleeping masks:
I like the Laneige water sleeping pack. does what it says on the tin (plus, the tub and the product are super pretty, so). Dries down nice and fast, but still feels so lovely and moisutrizing. Don’t feel like I need to wash it off in the morning (any remaining tackiness goes away when I put on my moisturizers)
Cosrx rice sleeping pack. Honestly this is kind of like a moisturizer? I don’t feel like I need to wash it off in the morning or anything. Nice and soothing, nothing special.
Don’t judge me for this but sometimes. Like when my skin is really dry or irritated. I’ll just slather some bag balm alllll over my face. Sounds weird but I swear I wake up with the softest skin ever and no greasiness at all, plus natural lanolin isn’t comedogenic like synthetic lanolin is.
Spot Treatments:
Tea tree oil. I usually do this one in the morning bc it’s invisible.
Epiduo. I usually only use this once or twice on a pimple bc it’s so drying but let me tell you it will get the job done. I like to use a thin layer of this on my nose for blackheads and messy sebaceous filaments but I don’t do it as regularly as I should.
Heres the major key…. Triamcinolone Acetonide cream! It’s a weak steroid used for eczema (suppresses your immune response). I use this on cystic acne, especially the enormous, swollen ones that make your whole face hurt (I once had one wake me up it hurt so bad). I keep a thick layer of this on it for a couple hours and the swelling pretty much disappears. It works pretty much the same way as a cortisol shot does. If you don’t have eczema and have this lying around (as I’m sure most of us eczema ridden folks do), use hydrocortisone instead. It comes in cream form and ointment form. I usually use the cream only and save the ointment for super dry and irritated spots bc it’s messy.
