There are some ships that you just know would be 100% canon if they were an M/F ship, and that's mainly what pisses people off the most in these situations.

It isn't just about the ship; it's also very much about the homophobia (whether the creators know it or not) that is preventing the ship from being canon when they otherwise would be.

Derek didn't shove Stiles hard at all, he grabbed his shirt and Stiles basically jumped fifty feet in the air in surprise. Derek wasn't abusive at all

What if Teen Wolf just replaced Scott's character with Danny? Like Danny goes wandering through the woods one night for whatever reason and gets bit. He doesn't want to go to Jackson because he's freaking out and it's Jackson so he goes to the one person that won't sent him to mental hospital after hearing the story of what happened in the woods. Stiles Stilinski, who he knows slightly better because Stiles' best friend, Scott is quickly getting more popular (and more distant) since he started dating the new girl, Allison (who is popular because she is also Lydia's new best friend). And since Scott is more distant now, Stiles quickly agrees and the two become friends.

I really don't care for the "true alpha" thing, and there are plenty of other people's posts about why, but I can't stop thinking about what it does to Scott and his character.

like, seasons one and two he's constantly fighting for NO ONE to be murdered, because he believes that you can't justify it and it's wrong. fair enough. this insistence places him at odds with people he might otherwise get along with, solidifying him as an underdog. even his alliance with Derek is tenuous, as Derek sees murder as necessary to keep people safe and Scott doesn't. but BECAUSE he's an underdog he has to work with the people around him and convince them why they shouldn't kill, he isn't powerful enough to stand on his own.

but in the later seasons.... he doesn't have that??

as the true alpha, his power hinges on him not killing people. while it would be unreasonable to say that his former stance is completely GONE, pessimistic fans (like me, hello hi how's your day) can make the case that he doesn't kill because he would be less powerful if he did, at least in part. it COMPLETELY cuts the teeth off his moral argument, which sucks because the show still has at least twelve more moral arguments left.

hes also completely LOST the underdog angle. he and Derek are finally chill, thankfully, but he's suddenly the most powerful cool guy in the area, the first of his kind in years, with super special powers just for him. about a season before he lost a fight with a guy who had been a werewolf for all of two seconds. and you know how before he had to convince other people to join his side and work with his plan? yeah no now he can just yell at them and they'll do whatever he says, magic rules.

No matter how you feel about season one and two Scott, it's undeniable that he is fighting an uphill battle that just kind of plateaus as of Season Three. and I love season three, but I feel like, if it did happen, it should have been closer to the end of the show

(And for all the talk about the McCall pack being weird and unconventional, they still fall in that same power structure that EVERY PACK EVER falls into. I think it would be more interesting if they didn't and their pack is even MORE of a mess to werewolves. take, for instance, the underlying subplot of seasons 1-3 that Beacon Hills doesn't have an alpha (at least a good one sorry Derek) and is there for ripe for the taking. a big reason that Derek wanted Scott in his pack was that he didn't want to be seen as weak or targeted by hunters, even other werewolves. they don't get along but they HAVE TO or else they straight up DIE. But then in 3A they suddenly have an alpha (at least a good one sorry AGAIN Derek) and that plotline is dropped. they're still being hunted, but that anxiety about being a good enough pack is gone. which is weird, right? wouldn't you want to increase that tension?

imagine if they didn't actually HAVE an alpha. They still consider each other pack, but that's not good enough for anyone but them. especially at the start of season four? no alpha, their former alpha has gone MISSING, they haven't told anyone, they have to go get him but every second any of them is away the more their town is in danger, and oh FUCK our former alpha is a TEENAGER NOW?? AND NOW HES BASICALLY NOT WVEN A WEREWOLF??? not only having to deal with the mercenaries and Kate but also other werewolves trying to nudge into their territory?)

listen, i’m going to get hate for this but…

i don’t ship sterek. for me, it’s the age gap. even though derek was planned to be 19, he ended up in a complicated situation with plot holes, but the general knowledge is that he’s 21-23. i think it’s weird to ship a minor and an adult.

the biggest thing for me, though, is that derek was a victim of grooming under kate. he would never pursue a relationship with some one underage, as he visibly has trauma from his experiences with kate.

if it’s an au where they met later in life, when they were adults, i have no issue with it. the issue is when it’s “stiles is older so it’s okay”. the thing is, stiles and derek met and grew their friendship when they were teenager-adult. it’s the same problem with five and lila in the umbrella academy. lila knew five and interacted with him when his body was underage, and that’s icky.

a good example of a later meeting au and its acceptability is with spideypool. yea, they have an age gap, but they met as adults. they grew in their friendship as adults. it’s not gross.

also, not all sterek fans are toxic. i hate it when people say shit like that. yes, there were sterek fans that were awful to tyler, but that’s not everyone who ships them.

anyway, feel free to let me know what you think in the comments because i am always interested in learning other opinions and the reasoning behind those opinions.

Why was I today years old when I realized that Sterek's (derek x stiles) energy matched Jori's (Tori x Jade) energy ship wise?

Stiles and Tori both have antisocial intimidating partners. Derek and Jade have intense chemistry with Stiles and Tori on screen (the actors are no different)

Stiles and Tori are both the sunshine in Derek and Jade's life, and plus they both have been strangled or punched or dragged by each other

Being called homophobic from shippers of non canon mlm couples,meanwhile they fetishized gay people and sees them as objects of their own fantasies and not real people.Treating women as baby machines,forcing sexuality on people and stripping down their traits to adjust them to their ship.

The same character that only had girlfriends/have a wife and kids/has only been interested and sexually attracted to women.

Mini Sterek rant

So I’m on my first ever watch through of teen wolf and the only two things I knew going in was that Dylan o’Brien was in and that he was shipped with another character called Derek.

Currently im up to season 3 ep 2 and I have seen no reason for them to be shipped hell I see more of a reason for Scott and stiles to be shipped but genuinely I have seen not a single scene where there is any chemistry between stiles and Derek.

Don’t get me wrong I really like stiles and tolerate Derek but to me there at most an older brother and anyone younger brother type of dynamic and even that isn’t that prominent.

And like I get it iv been in fandoms where characters haven’t even interacted or hate each other and they’ve been shipped so that’s not the part that gets me the most what actually gets to me so bad is that stiles is around 16 in Highschool and Derek is f**king 22 like what the actual hell. That is a minor and a full ass adult like what reasoning can u come up with that that’s ok in any situation to be the most popular ship in the entire fandom. And it being so popular makes it even worse I can’t physically avoid it when looking at teen wolf and stiles media.

It just really creeps me out that there are grown ass adults out there shipping a 16 year old and a 22 year old even for a minor to ship still icks me tf out.

And like Derek is such a creep in most scenes firstly man just shows up at a Highschool middle of the day when kids are there and the way he just creepily sits in Scott’s room only making his presence known by Scott turning the light on. Ew.

If Derek was a teen like 16-18 in the show and didn’t look like full ass adult I feel like the ship would have more grounds to be good but the way the characters are with there ages it’s just plain weird and gross for them to be the most popular ship.

And so many other great ships get shoved away or forgotten for this weird groomer ass ship, for example Scott/stiles who arguably have more chemistry then stiles and Derek yet have only around 3,900 fics compared to stereks 74,000 fics. Another example is Malia/kira with just over 1k fics.

It’s just insane how many people genuinely ship a minor and an adult. Justice for other (of age) ships.
