Lol @ the people saying you're "bringing race into fandom". Transports me right back to 11th grade English when our teacher (instead of sacrificing us to the Nemeton) tried to teach us about analyzing race in popular media texts like Disney movies, and everyone in the class (bar myself and like 3 other people who had brains) started going on about how the critics she was having us read/watch were "bringing race into it". Like come on. This is grade school level theory. Read a book, people.
Tumblr media
You want to know how I know that race is involved in the Sterek fandom?
Isaac Lahey.
(Before anyone gets upset, I appreciate Isaac's character as much as I appreciate Derek's and Stiles's characters, which is quite a bit.)
Let's review. Isaac is indeed abused and terrorized by his father, the same way Scott is abused and terrorized by Peter. Isaac threatens Stiles and bullies Stiles and Jackson far more than Scott "mistreats" Stiles and Jackson. He makes fun of Stiles and refuses to listen to him. Isaac resists Derek's teaching, to the point that Derek hurts him to teach him a lesson (the same way Derek hurts Scott to teach him a lesson). Isaac dates a hunter, Allison, and follows her through the woods and sneaks into her house. Isaac learns from Alan Deaton. Isaac refuses to be a part of the Hale Pack, like Scott does, but unlike Scott, he originally agreed to take the Bite and join the pack. In the end, he leaves Beacon Hills with Chris Argent, an actual hunter without a single word to either his alpha or his former-alpha.
So where the hell are all the Bad Friend Isaac stories?
I mean, if the nearly two-thousand tagged Bad Friend Scott Stories and the ten times as many stories that write Scott as a Bad Friend but don't label it are a result of Scott's on-screen behavior, then shouldn't there be at least a thousand stories that deal with Isaac in the same way? I would confidently estimate that there are less than a hundred. I can say with less confidence that there are less than fifty. There are even less that turn him into an antagonist or even a villain who must be punished, deprived of freedom, or murdered. I doubt you would break ten.
So what's the deal? If this has nothing to do with race and Sterek stories just require a bad-friend antagonist or an ineffectual villain, then it stands to reason that Isaac would sometimes fill that role, doesn't it?
Of course, their answer is that they don't like Scott, and I agree they have a right not to like Scott. But the funny thing is they won't -- they can't -- explain why they don't like Scott. It can't be because he acts as a selfless hero, because so do Derek and Stiles. It can't be because he says mean things to Derek, because they don't have any problem liking Isaac or Peter or Stiles. It can't be because he never listens to Stiles, because since when does any character always listen to Stiles? It can't be because he's in a problematic heterosexual relationship, because they don't have any problem with Isaac's or Derek's or Stiles's problematic heterosexual relationships.
And so on and so forth.
It's not just because he's the lead protagonist, because Scott being the Teen Wolf offers no obstacle at all to a Sterek relationship. He canonically loved both Stiles and Derek, and they loved him in return. But what Scott being the lead protagonist proves an obstacle for is either Stiles or Derek actually being the lead protagonist. The show was built around a Latino character and not the two white characters that this fandom has conjured a whole relationship about.
It's not -- nor has it ever been -- about what happened on the screen that causes people to dislike Scott. It's been about what didn't happen on the screen. Derek and Stiles had nearly ten times the amount of pre-canon flashbacks than Scott did, but that's not enough. You never saw Scott taking a few days or weeks off to contemplate his place in the world while sad classical music played in the background, but that's not enough. Melissa and Deaton always told Scott how he could be a better werewolf instead of getting his parking tickets erased or told that the easiest way to forgive himself is to forgive someone who didn't do anything to him, but that's not enough. Scott never got to beat Derek up because his decisions in Season 2 ruined his relationship with Allison, not the way Stiles got to hit Scott for his father getting hurt, but that's not enough. For as much as these white male characters received in terms of story, they still weren't the lead protagonist, and this creates the only explanation for the profound animosity which they exhibit toward Scott, one which they will claim the right to have but also feel they never ever have to explain. In addition, there is only one thing, no matter how much they can't say, that we must always remember.
BUT IT'S NOT RACISM.

Thank you for sharing this in the scott mccall tag. I am sure all of us scott fans are VERY interested in the take of some random ass fujoshi 🙃
I love when people make Scott the bad friend in fics. I know Scott is such a puppy in most peoples eyes and they say that it hasn't been easy for him but FUCK that. IMO he was such a bad friend to Stiles. He was so quick to shoot Stiles theories down and ignore him when Stiles was always the first one there for him. I love fics where Derek and his pack take Stiles in and Scott is just confused but we all know why. Like yes, push Stiles away so Derek can pick up the pieces. Stiles joining the Hale pack is one of my fav tags. Idk. I just also didn't like Scott at all in the show.

Derek didn't shove Stiles hard at all, he grabbed his shirt and Stiles basically jumped fifty feet in the air in surprise. Derek wasn't abusive at all

Do you know who hate women more than men?
Women that ship a (non canon)gay couple and there’s also a girl in the picture(the canon girlfriend/wife/love interest of one of the male characters).

Fandoms you couldn’t pay me to join even though I either really do like the show, did once or have been interested but for whatever reasons have been turned off by its fandom in no order
9-1-1 (did watch but fell off vapid fandom)
Buddie (no)
Bridgertom (was interested vapid racist fandom I find shonda Rimes to be very...)
Greys anatomy (did watch fell off vapid fandom with hints of racism)
Japril (I hate this ship with a passion mostly because their stans are annoying and turned me off)
Atla cartoon (comfort show vapid vapid fandom)
Anti legend of korra ( I have a love hate relationship with this show)
Driven (I do like them on a surface level but some of their fans can be intense) you will never get me to interact with driven content one I’ve seen multiple post attacking musa for being with riven or or calling musa ugly (she’s a cartoon character) or calling Darcy’s “spell” a dubbing issue while that might be true atp I’m over driven
Klaroline (jesus fucking christ sorry for using your in vain but this ship stans I once saw a fanfic that made caroline a original heretic and she was in the box instead of ester I'll give the points for originality but if they were to do a heretic bonnie was right there you know the wich that already had powers
Anti jegulus ( im not entering a fandom where the couple is written ooc to be together atp they are whole different characters) not trying to yuck someone yum
Sterek (these are some of the most annoying fanbase they don't even like these characters fr because rewrite them to make them so ooc that they are new characters. Why would stiles be in derek pack)
Stiles (I'm not going to lie I used to like stiles but his stans ruined him for me they were insuffible he could do no wrong in their eyes. All because he's a white snarky/sarcastic boy. Dont let write a crossover then they'll make him the most powerful being in the universe. Crossover with tvd/to he's loss mikealson crossover with supernatural hes either a Winchester that has demon blood also or an angel. They think that stile would be a better werewolf then Scott when everything in the show has told us that if he was the that had been the that had been bit his eyes would been blue by the end of season 1. And don't get me started on the friend subject)
The mcu (I used to love the mcu and watch every release but it became quantity over quality and its downfall for me was very sad)
Wanda maximoff and wandavision (I could make a whole video on the whole rollercoaster of thoughts I had on wanda and wandavision because like the mcu I liked both then I didn't. The decent of wandavision was more gradual with wandavision it was episodic to me it was a let down and didn't make sense while I thought Elizabeth Olsen acting was good the writing was not it find out that the writers were swayed not to look at the source material for the show because kevin fegie didn't want them to be influenced although that's the whole point because you're making a supposed comic book adaptation then there's the alleged part reshoot that happened because ppl guessed the ending and let's not forget the whitewashing of Wanda and peitro maximoff who are canonically romani and the mcu deliberately changed it to a made up country somewhere remotely European and made wanda a knock off Jean grey (red hair, pale skin, mind powers) for over ten years so bad that it started to influence the comics
Tony stark (hes a war profiteer, his fans infantilize him. They recognize his PTSD and mental problems only. His side of civil war was dead wrong and ppl to this day will not accept that even if you explain it to then like they are 2. Come onguys the un is useless even iron man knew he was wrong he broke the accords three times in the movie and kidnapped a child to fight adult that he had no business fighting. Also his fans are insane)
Specifically black arianitors that excuse everything thing that grow women does (now I don't dislike her or hate her but man her fanbase is annoying as hell especially the black ones it's like the one non black person who does problematic shit but has a lot black ppl in their corner rooting for them so when they do something out of pocket they don't even have to say anything they're black friends do it for them)
Taylor swift (need I could say more mind you I like some of her songs)
Obx/jaira - yall are psychotic!!!!!!! Yall have been tweaking over fictional characters for a few days

That was exactly my experience. I went into the show expecting that at the very least they will develop a strong friendship. There has to be a reason why everyone is so crazy about them, but nope. No such thing. They had like 6 scenes that could be considered somewhat intimate if we are feeling generous.

The thing I hate about anti Stereks (I’m an anti Sterek btw) is that a lot of them are also anti Stiles. I mean I get that some Stiles stans are like incredibly annoying and try to put ALL of the attention on him, but that doesn’t make the CHARACTER bad. It’s like anti Destiels being anti Cas because some people like him more than Sam. Like come on guys people can have favorite characters.

stiles/sterek fans will shit on scott and then turn around and give scott's entire personality to stiles. they "love" stiles for being sarcastic, aggressive, and pushy. but when writing/making headcanons suddenly he has scott's gentleness, understanding, and need to take care of people. but they "hate" scott for being a "shitty" person🙃 okay babes
Oh, you are preaching to the choir.
This is something a lot of us have brought up multiple times and yet it seems to fall on deaf ears by most of the fandom, mostly because they don't want to hear it.
There are fans that took literally everything from Scott and gave it to Stiles, from the smallest details to entire character traits. The only resemblance that the fandom versions of Scott and Stiles (or virtually any other character) have to their canon counterparts, and even that is an unusual occurrence. I mean, let's be honest, how many times have we read a fic where Stiles was described as "coltish" or "waifish" or something similar despite Dylan O'Brien being almost six feet tall with ridiculously broad shoulders and big hands?
Scott's compassion and determination to try and save everyone? That's Stiles now. His relationship with Derek? They took that and twisted it to make Sterek, even though Derek was always focused/fixated on Scott.
Don't believe me, watch their first scene together. [ X ]
Notice how Derek doesn't even glance at Stiles. His attention is solely focused on Scott, as it was for almost the entire season... and the next season, where he tried repeatedly to get Scott to join his pack. Not Stiles, Scott. But you go into the general Teen Wolf fandom and they'll tell you about this deep and immediate connection between Stiles and Derek.
I can count on one hand the number of scenes that Stiles and Derek shared where they weren't antagonizing or even outright hitting each other. And one of those is a dream sequence.
Meanwhile, Derek and Scott have had a consistent, developing relationship throughout the show.
Scott trying to find and rescue Derek. [ X ]
Derek saving Scott during the Rave. [ X ]
Derek saving Scott from Ennis. [ X ]
Derek telling the twins how to be in Scott's pack. [ X ]
Derek rushes to save Scott from Berserkers. [ X ]
Derek coming back to Beacon Hills... for Scott! [ X ]
I personally loved the fact that the BS line from the beginning "We're brothers now" became true in the end. That's an actual connection that was allowed to flourish and grow into character development.
There was this whole thing in the fandom about how Stiles cared so much about his father (to be fair, he did) that he brought him dinner at the Sheriff's Station and monitored his food. (I remember there being a big thing about curly fries vs salads.) That's something that never happened on the show, but meanwhile, Scott...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They'll take anything from Scott to give to Stiles, even the small and seemingly inconsequential things.
Like, the red hoodie for example. I saw so many posts and fics and metas about Stiles, the boy in the red hoodie, and yet we have this
Tumblr media
This is from the first episode. Hell, this is from the first ten minutes of the first episode!
And then there's the damn baseball bat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That bat was something Scott and then his mother used. Stiles didn't pick up a baseball bat until halfway through season three [The Overlooked], and even then, it wasn't his bat, it was Melissa's.
Don't believe me?
Tumblr media
Fandom completely and entirely swapped Scott's and Stiles' personalities and then used what they did as an excuse to hate Scott and prop up Stiles. They did it so much and to such an extent, that I'm convinced they secretly hate Stiles, otherwise they wouldn't be trying so hard to make him like Scott.
Makes absolutely zero sense.

Being called homophobic from shippers of non canon mlm couples, meanwhile they fetishized gay people and sees them as objects of their own fantasies and not real people.Treating women as baby machines, forcing sexuality on people and stripping down their traits to adjust them to their ship.
And then they go:“But the author and the character never said they were straight!😡”
The same character that only had girlfriends/have a wife and kids/has only been interested and sexually attracted to women.

Taking Care of What You Want
Tumblr media
I fear that if there aren't any queer romantic relationships in Teen Wolf the Movie, certain parts of the fandom (you know of whom I speak) will fixate on that as a reason to hate on the movie without stinting.
But really, they have only themselves to blame.
The original television series had two significant queer romantic relationships, and while it could (and should) be pointed out that these relationships were between only gay men, it also has to be said that these two relationships weren't background decoration. Both of them had importance to the plot, and the nature of both relationships were explored as a crucial aspect of the characters. The production wasn't just checking boxes.
Danny and Ethan started out as a gambit from season's three primary villain, but over the season we got to understand what the relationship meant to each individual character and how it shaped their actions within the plot. From Chaos Rising (3x02) to end of The Divine Move (3x24), this relationship was given essentially the same time and attention as Allison and Isaac and Aiden and Lydia.
And yet, it's barely a footnote in the fandom.
Mason and Corey is the second-longest lasting relationship portrayed on Teen Wolf, starting in Damnation Memoriae (5x12) to The Wolves of War (6x20), being eclipsed only by Scott and Kira. It lasted longer than Scott and Allison! Mason and Corey caring for each other helped involve Mason in the world of the Supernatural and lured Corey back towards humanity. Their desire to protect each other was a major component of two season finales (5B & 6A).
And, at best, it's background material for another fanon-conjured romantic relationship.
Why should the production spend precious screen time on another queer relationship if the fandom is just going to pay attention to whatever pairing they want anyway? If the fandom's going to take any conversation between two dudes as romantic chemistry and overwhelmingly focus their time and energy on that, there's no reason to create a relationship that's going to be ignored. No one can legitimately argue that a romantic relationship between Stiles and Derek was anything than more than viewer projection on the events of the show, and it's the overwhelming focus of the fandom.
I'm not surprised that Corey isn't in the movie. If they put him in it, they would need to spend time dealing with the state of his and Mason's relationship, and to their eyes, no one cared that much.
There's no payoff for the production if they put effort into a relationship only for the audience to spend their time mourning the Ships That Didn't Happen. As much as it might pain people to hear it, representation goes both ways. If you want it, you have to treat it right when it happens, or all you do is discourage producers from putting any effort at all into it.
