And THIS is why she’s popular with men. Not because of her boobs. Those are often a plus to men but the main thing they want is LOYALTY from a woman. Even men that aren’t into big boobs respect and try to get girlfriends that are like Hinata’s personality.

Sakura has never shown loyalty to anyone but Sasuke and even then she would rather kill him than be without him. That was clear when she wanted to poison him rather than try a peaceful way like Naruto wanted to.

I don’t need to explain how Sakura doesn’t show loyalty to even Naruto, she freaking tried to emotionally manipulate him and didn’t lift a finger when Naruto was crying over Neji like she couldn’t summon her slug then. No, wait for Sasuke so you can do it to show off for him.

Hinata isn’t even just loyal to Naruto, what many antis ignore is that she gave Kiba an ointment too and she never dissed his proclamation of wanting to be Hokage. People with actual reading comprehension skills know this and that’s why she was voted 3rd most loyal in ALL anime.

naruto uzumaki doesn’t really understand love? a few times we are shown otherwise

another attempt of rewriting my own post that is lost forever under a read more. so let’s see if naruto uzumaki is really the type of character who doesn’t understand love, as a few people claim he is. i will not put this under a read more and risk to losing it, so it will be a long post.

1. land of waves

land of waves arc delivers such a good and clear storytelling, not only for the arc itself, but it sets the tone for the rest of the manga, many important messages have its roots in land of waves and it’s unfortunate that the manga didn’t keep this arc’s level of quality, but anyway.

the reason why land of waves is so impactful it’s because it not only questions what it is to be a ninja, but how and why you do it, and most importantly, is it possible to do it without losing yourself, your values, your heart?

in this arc’s storytelling, through mostly haku’s speech, but also naruto’s thoughts, the manga tells us that you are able to become a strong ninja when you have precious people, people you care about and want to protect.

naruto is not only able to understand what haku tells him, but also he can apply that to other people and, more importantly, to himself. land of waves establishes that iruka is a precious person to naruto and naruto is able to see that.

and what is interesting is that haku doesn’t necessarily uses the word love, but the way he describes how you feel towards a “precious person”, it doesn’t take a genius to understand it either.

and then again we have naruto being able to connect such a special feeling with iruka. that should be enough to show that he understands the feeling, but naruto goes beyond that.

this translation isn’t quite accurate, because the word naruto uses in the first panel isn’t mere “care about”, it denotes feelings of affection. when haku dies, naruto calls zabuza out for seeming heartless towards it and he describes the same feelings haku has described to him, he is able to see devotion, he is able to see self sacrifice, he is able to see and tell that haku loved zabuza. and his speech is enough to make zabuza cry.

so what we can take out of land of waves, at mere first glance, is that naruto is able to see love, not only when it comes to other people, but to his own reality, and he is even able to touch people with his understanding. on a deeper look, considering the entirety of the manga as well, naruto is able to link devotion, self sacrifice, desire to protect and become stronger for someone to love, but i will mention this later again.

2. sakura’s fake confession

in sakura’s fake confession, naruto looks stunned for only a brief moment, but he doesn’t buy it and right away starts questioning her. he understands that for someone who “loved” sasuke for so long, it doesn’t make any sense that she suddenly just started to like him. sakura’s confession mostly annoys naruto and he can quickly tell that she’s lying.

as if that’s not enough, in this confession sakura basically inflames all of naruto’s insecurities, by saying she likes him because she was able to see how he has grown to be a hero. in her speech, she puts herself in the same position as the other konoha citizens (“right now everyone loves you, i am simply one of them”). but in the following arc, this is shown to be badly received by naruto through the manifestation of his dark self. naruto resents this type of demonstration because he knows it isn’t genuine. in land of waves, naruto refuses to become a tool, and later we see that he kept this idea within him. it’s not meaningful to be loved only after he’s proved to be “useful” to the village.

and besides all that, when sakura brings that sasuke is a criminal, when everybody brings sasuke’s hatred on the table, naruto talks about the deep love sasuke felt for his family and why it’s so hard to forgive those who took that away from him.

what he can take out of sakura’s confession is that naruto is not only able to understand what love is, but he surely knows what love isn’t, and in this case, it’s specifically romantic love. later with dark naruto, we are also able to see that naruto is aware that the love people feel for him for being a hero isn’t genuine, and it sickens him.

3. when he meets his mother

another thing people say to discredit naruto’s emotional intelligence is that he can’t understand love because he grew up with none. that couldn’t be any further from the truth. naruto’s meeting with his mother is pretty self explanatory.

kushina just tells naruto right away that she loves him, and this is his cute reaction.

not only that, but he feels calm and happy. naruto grew up desperate for bonds, yet with dark naruto, we see that he distrusts people who don’t love him genuinely, that clearly isn’t the case with his mother. even though he grew up without her love, he is able to recognise it as soon as she tells him, and it makes him calm and happy, as if that desperation is immediately filled.

i guess it is pretty self explanatory, he had doubts but he knows now, he can tell he has always been loved, and again we see naruto taking the notion that love is self sacrificial.

4. sasuke

like i said before, land of waves is the origin of many important messages of the manga. what haku says about “precious people” also applies to sasuke. in many instances, naruto makes sure to put sasuke and iruka in this same special group of people that were able to change his heart… because they showed love for him first. when i say land of waves sets the tone of the manga, it’s because the same way naruto calls zabuza out for seeming heartless, he refuses to act the same towards sasuke. so much of what he sees in haku is applied to how he feels towards sasuke, the devotion, the desire to protect and become stronger for that person, the self sacrifice (that is also learned from iruka and his parents), and naruto understood that that was love, it is established in land of waves that naruto understands those notions and that they are linked to love. it is established that naruto understands sasuke feels the same. even though naruto doesn’t immediately understands it, even though he says he can’t exactly put it into words, how he feels about sasuke, he is able to describe it. not being able to put a name to it isn’t the same as not understanding, and the narrative and storytelling has shown us what it is.

does he have to repeat himself? do you still not understand it? it’s almost like he is speaking to the audience.

and these are just a few instances, there are many more showing naruto isn’t emotionally inept, he is actually complex and displays a lot of emotional intelligence. it’s disrespectful to his character to say he doesn’t understand or doesn’t know what love is, that’s not what the writing shows us. if you need to believe a movie that contradicts what was written in the manga because the manga didn’t give you the love story you wanted, if you need to butcher naruto’s character like that in order to defend a ship, maybe the problem isn’t with naruto and his understanding of love, but with the ship that can’t rely on his very evident understanding. let’s not simplify a beloved character like naruto that way.

also ppl kinda do the same thing for shion from that one Naruto movie when hinata AND sakura fans hate on her for “trying to be like hinata” just bc she has similar hair and eye color and even gotten a bit shy around Naruto ONE TIME and that was only when she was opening up to him? But the excuse for hating her is bc “she body shamed sakura” so if she did then where does hinata get involved?

To me Neji and Tenten is the go to ship for the two. Out of the dynamics with opposite gender I feel the only working ship we could have for them is each other.

They are hypocrites forgetting how Sakura wanted to watch Sasuke pee in part 1. Also Karin could never actually force herself on Sasuke she would have tried to seduce him at best. Plus unlike Sakura its proven Karin as a genuine reason for liking Sasuke and that she truly cares for him as a person.

Sakura fans use her as a self insert to them Naruto and any other character is a trophy to make Sakura look better. As where shipping Sasuke or Naruto with anyone else is hated by them cause they are insecure and know deep down Sakura is not that good of a character.

Its the same reason why they tend to hate the heroines in moves since they usually like or fall for Naruto and end up with better dynamics with him then what Sakura has. Even filler characters are better off with Naruto then him being with Sakura which puts a target on their backs for Sakura fans.

I just want to say; sasuke being gay isn't a "headcanon" for me. It's pretty much canon. Naruto being gay is canon to me too, but I respect people who also see him as bisexual. There's honestly not much room for denying their queer coding and the queer portrayal of Naruto as a story.

And, Sakura's character is used in the story as a device to turn down heteronormativity. The way she comments on events, and the way her feelings canonically dont reach/touch Sasuke nor compare to Naruto's is proof of it.

the thing is naruto's crush on sakura was always written as unserious and often in projection with his own feelings for sasuke, or just as a smokescreen in general. when we look at the *important* moments between narusaku, as in, not those that were used for comedic relief but those that serve to explain the basis that underpins their relationship, or further develops it, it's all wishy-washy.

why does naruto like sakura?

from sakura's very first introduction naruto calls her a 'cute girl'. and yet, being 'cute' is not enough reason for naruto to understand why he likes her (I mean go figure, since all we saw sakura do was yell at him and hit him). but he does end up saying he 'finally understands what he likes about sakura' once sakura talks about doing anything for sasuke's acknowledgement - which we know is something naruto also relates to and wants and did actually end up getting. so in chapter 3 that is established as the basis for naruto's 'feelings for sakura'.

2. why can't naruto explain his *true* feelings for sakura?

'okay sure,' you might say, 'but that was just chapter 3. they spent time together and naruto's feelings for her deepened greatly.' did they really though?

here's a scene where his feelings are explicitly discussed in a *serious* context again.

'reasons for love' is something that kishimoto places great emphasis on throughout the manga. do you think it's not intentional, that out of all people to talk about human emotions, it's sai that was given the task here? the reasoning sai supplies for thinking that naruto likes sakura is because he smiles a lot around her. okay. there's no mention of actual deep and organic reasoning behind naruto's *true love for sakura* (here or anywhere else) since kishimoto won't write that for them since they don't exist. most of naruto and sakura's conversations revolve around sasuke anyways.

but let's look at what naruto says next:

right, the infamous promise.... ok well let's talk about that promise some more in the context of narusaku.

3. sakura's confession

not only has naruto shown that he would in fact be willing to go back and break his promises when it came to sasuke (implying that his *feelings* for sakura are not great enough for him to break his own promises for), the reasoning naruto gave for not communicating his true feelings for sakura - the promise - ended up not mattering. also, throughout sakura's whole confession, did naruto look heart broken at the fact his supposed love for sakura was not reciprocated? he looked more annoyed and angry at the whole thing, thinking and being sad about sasuke, than actually act like guy who just experienced the true end to his unrequited love. no panel, no expression, no thought where naruto is sad about sakura actually not liking him and how his feelings are hurt because of it.... despite the fact he supposedly has them during his conversation with sai.

SO given that that at the start his crush was explained by wanting sasuke's acknowledgement, given that in part 2 the greatest extent his feelings were explored were by 'smiling a lot' and a promise that never held much weight in the end, AND the fact that he was not heartbroken when it all came to a climax - like just because someone says something at face value you can think more deeply about it, you don't need to not do that because it's just a 'simple shonen.'

It really hit me while re-reading Sakura’s confession to Naruto how superficially she talks about him, even when she’s supposed to be expressing love.

She says she finally saw "Naruto’s true self", and that she’s like the rest of the villagers who idolize and respect Naruto for having saved the village. She loves Naruto because she saw him becoming a powerful ninja, and she seems to think this is who Naruto is deep inside. She’s like every Konoha citizen who considered Naruto worthless when he was a child, but loved him and admired him when she discovered that he had become a hero.

Her confession seems even more superficial when compared to Sasuke’s feelings about the "mischievous prankster loser"

Sasuke understands that Naruto pulling pranks on people was a way for him to create bonds with others. He knew this from the start, and it’s actually something about Naruto that touches him. Sasuke’s the one who saw who Naruto is deep inside, and he likes him this way.

But Sakura isn’t able to see this. She doesn’t understand Naruto. She doesn’t even understand why Naruto wants to save Sasuke, when even Shizune (who isn’t particularly close to him) could.

She talks about Naruto like he used to be a worthless brat who turned into a beautiful butterfly. Because she doesn’t understand his motivations, she treats him like a child: she takes actions "for Naruto’s sake", deciding that she has to kill Sasuke to protect gil, even when he explicitly told her he wasn’t motivated by the promise he made to her. She tries to manipulate him into not chasing after Sasuke, because she’s convinced Naruto does all of this for her, even after someone else TOLD HER that Naruto wasn’t doing it for her.

Overall, Sakura doesn’t love Naruto even as a friend. He’s more of someone she admires and can use as a support, but he’s not someone she sees as a full human being. She likes the idea of him. Kinda like how she feels about Sasuke, actually…

The new Minato manga's coming out and leaks are everywhere, me searching the Minato and Kushina tags (since she's suppose to be in it a lot) Sakura fandom spamming the tags: 'Minato's just like Sakura!' 'Kushina is just like Sakura!' 'MK is just like SS!' 'MK is just like NS!' Someone seriously gotta make some sort of ai app that can auto detect her picture like they did with trump and filter it or replace it with kittens so the rest of the fandom can search tags in peace.

They are saying SS is like Minakushi because Kushina hugs Minato in a hospital. Except in Minakushi's case, the hug is reciprocal. Minato is responding to the hug warmly. In Sasuke's case, he was barely there. Even when Sakura kept being by his side and babbling, he was dissociating.

Yeah he is thinking about his deep love for Sakura. Lol. I actually think Kishimoto probably drew that Minakushi interaction to show the difference between mutual and onesided relationship. Same way as how Hinata stands behind a tree and there is no NH interaction other than her being inspired by Naruto, Kushina actually interacts with Minato. But being NH/SS, superficial and surface level reading is their thing.

I mean sure. Except only one of these mangas is written and drawn by Kishimoto. Because he only enjoys writing Sakura when it is to humiliate her.

Its funny how Ichihime fans compare their pathetic ship with Naruhina to make it seem more valid. Honestly, those two ships have nothing in common. Naruto has always believed in Hinata's strength. He outright invites her to battle with him in the War. When has Ichigo thought Orihime was strong or encouraged her?? He has done all those things for Rukia, the girl he loves. When a boy truly loves a girl, he appreciates her strength. It honestly annoys me When Orihime fans compare her to Hinata when they are not alike at all. Neji and Byakuya were initially indifferent or somewhat cruel to their sisters until they got sense beat into them by Naruto and Ichigo. Naruto and Ichigo fought hard to mend the relationship of their girls with their brothers. Only they understood how much the girls were suffering because of their brothers, no one else could understand them like their boys. Their stories are so similar. They grew closer to the Protagonists for how hard they fought for them. Seriously every time Hinata and Rukia are hurt or kidnapped Naruto and Ichigo show resilience they have never shown before. They became better persons due to the influence of their girls. Their girls encouraged them, pulled them out of darkness and became their light. They are also tied by Red String of Fate. When their girls left them, they became depressed. I can go on and on about how similar Hinata and Rukia are and How Naruhina is similar to Ichiruki not Ichihime. There's a reason Naruhina is so popular while Ichihime is bleh. Both Naruhina and Ichiruki are my Otps. When anyone compares Naruhina to Ichihime it just annoys the hell outta me.😒

I've always thought IchiRuki & NaruHina have similarities! Glad someone else sees this! 😭 You even brought up some points I hadn't thought about!

They both also have Sun & Moon symbolisms & official titles. Hinata's colors are purple/lavender & white like Rukia. Ichigo & Naruto have orange & even black? Other similarities with Hinata & Rukia, as u mentioned, are being associated with "princess" like Hinata the Byakugan Princess & Rukia's zanpakuto is called Sode no Shirayuki (Shirayuki is the JP name for Snow White), the Hyuuga heiress & the Kuchiki heiress, & you're so right on the introvert part! Both so brave in the face of danger, willing to sacrifice themselves for those they love... I think they would've gotten along & even admired each other for their resilience & kindness.

Ori & Hinata may have some superficial similarities (pretty & nice big-boobed girl who likes the MC) but it doesn't go farther than that! Hinata & Orihime are very different people. Ichigo & Naruto are very different too. Their dynamics are completely different. NaruHina is very popular & beloved even to this day while IH isn't 🤷‍♀️. Hinata is very popular on her own unlike Ori...

I also can't stand when ppl compare Rukia & Sakura. They also only have superficial similarities; tough, small-breasted, & being the FL of a battle shounen. Their personalities & values are completely different, tho, as well as their dynamics with Ichigo & Naruto. While I came to tolerate Sakura & support SasuSaku, I've never been a fan of hers.

There's actually an amazing meta here in which OP compares Orihime & Sakura & their dynamics with Naruto & Ichigo. They're eerily similar...

It just gets on my nerves when ppl compare NH & IH. I once made a post on most of the major differences between them. I even mentioned how NH & IR could understand each other thru their eyes. I would've liked to elaborate further on these dynamics with manga panels, but I no longer feel like going over it. It's been years, I'm happy with NaruHina, so I'll just leave it at that.
