was talking with a friend about how some of dunmeshi fаndom misunderstands kabru's initial feelings towards laios.

to sum up kabru's situation via a self-contained modernized metaphor:

kabru is like a guy who lost his entire family in a highly traumatic car accident. years later he joins a discord server and takes note of laios, another server member who seems interesting, so they start chatting. then laios reveals his special interest and favorite movie of all time is David Cronenberg's Crash (1996), and invites kabru to go watch a demolition derby with him

Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

i don't have coherent thoughts about it much less words but god just. kristen applebees realizes she's being attacked from within by kalina, and what does she do? her girlfriend just disappeared, she and riz are on their own, they haven't found the last ingredient they need to make the tincture to heal the shadow cat plague, and said plague is now manifesting enough to kill kristen from the inside, and kristen...doesn't save herself. she casts her one greater restoration on riz. she trusts her friend. kristen "crisis of faith" applebees, who spends the entire first half of high school with no idea what she believes in, finds herself dying from an unseen assailant and chooses, without a second's hesitation, to put her faith - and her life - in the hands of her friends. because sure, kristen may be a devout young woman, but she knows better than most that gods are just people with tremendous power. and you know what? her friends are people with tremendous power, too. and they care about her without exception, without doubt. so when the chips are down, kristen believes in her friends. not knowing how they'll come through, but always knowing that they will.

I find the fact that the confrontation at the end of UTRH is often summarized as Jason asking Bruce to kill the Joker for him fascinating.

Because that's not what happened.

Jason holds a gun up to Joker's head, gives Bruce another, and tells him that if Bruce doesn't do something (shoot Jason), he will kill Joker.

Jason doesn't give the gun to Bruce so that he would shoot Joker. He isn't expecting Bruce to pull the trigger on the clown. He's asking Bruce to do nothing. To be inactive. Because that will still be a choice, and despite having done nothing, everybody clearly agrees that Bruce would still, at least in part, be responsible for Joker's death.

...And to me, this moment is a kind of- microcosm, of the rest of Jason's point. Because after being captured and carted off to Arkham, the villain will escape again, and will kill more people. The only way to truly prevent that from happening would be to kill them; Bruce refuses to do so, and I respect his right to choose such a thing for himself, but it is still a choice, and if we agree that Bruce's inaction during the confrontation would leave him at least partly responsible for the Joker's death, then we must also agree that his inaction in permanently preventing the Rogues from killing more people means he is also, partly, responsible for all of those deaths.

“Oh I am blaming all of this on you T,” one of the beings in the summoning circle groans, burying their corpse-pale head in clawed hands as their white hair flickered. 

“Me? Excuse me, I wasn’t the one to accept the summoning!” another being protested, hood hiding most of their face save for molten-gold eyes and glittering runes or code on dark blue skin. “I was trying to figure out how to convince PK to change our schedule to include more sleeping, so don’t look at me, look at S!” 

“Well I didn’t accept it,” the only girl-sounding one scoffed, her crown of thorns seeming to writhe and bloom in her black hair for a moment. She crossed her arms, narrowing green eyes just a few shades darker than the white-haired one. “Maybe talk to whoever decided to summon us?” 

All of the sudden the cultists and heroes were being peered down at by a trio of… honestly whatever they were, because they didn’t seem to be the “Infinite King” the cult had been attempting to summon. Actually, they kind-of-maybe looked like kids… Which probably meant their parents or caretakers wouldn’t be too pleased.

At some point in your life, there will be a moment where exactly - or near exactly - half the people in the world are younger than you, and half the people are older.

And I think that moment should be the one your soulmate Mark appears at, not at birth or puberty or something. Both because at birth is kind of boring but it's also very you-centric and soulmates are about the thing outside of you being a part of you, and I think it would be nice to include The World.

But also I think it would have fascinating implications for scientific and social studies. Longevity trends tracked by the average age soul marks appear. Tragedies causing a rash of recent marks to disappear (because the people are no longer the middle). Marks appearing early during baby booms.

It started slowly, so slow and subtle that it took a while for James to notice. But now it was becoming blatantly obvious.

Regulus was glued to James’ side. Wherever they were, Regulus would always sit as close as possible to James. At parties or gatherings, Regulus would drape himself over James, sit in his lap, and share deep—bordering inappropriate—kisses.

None of these things were ever unwelcome or unwanted, which was another reason James never really noticed.

Until it became excessive and increasingly suggestive. Again, nothing James didn’t enjoy, he’d just rather enjoy it privately and not with an audience.

It took James a while to figure out when and why Regulus would get like this but finally James figured it out.

Lily.

Regulus would get overly affectionate whenever Lily was there. Even more so if Lily was close to James.

It wasn’t until Regulus had almost overshared details about their sex life that James knew he needed to do something.

“…and after several minutes of that, James loves it when I—"

“Okay!” James quickly cuts Regulus off. “Reg, will you come with me for a sec?”

James takes Regulus to his room and sits on the edge of the bed with him.

“What’s going on, Reg?” James asks softly, taking both of Regulus’ hands.

“What do you mean?” Regulus says feigning innocence.

“Reg.” James says gently, and Regulus just huffs. “You know Lily’s not a threat to you, right?” Regulus purses his lips and looks down at his lap. James puts his fingers under Regulus’ chin lifting his head to look directly into his eyes. “Regulus, she’s not a threat to you.” James says softly but firmly.

“I know.” Regulus whispers weakly.

“Do you?”

Regulus sighs deeply. “My head knows that.” He looks away again. “I don’t think my heart knows that yet.” He mumbles.

James is silent for a moment, just rubbing the back of Regulus’ hands. Finally, James takes a deep breath.

“I’m not going to deny that I used to have feeling for Lily.” Regulus looks back at James, sadness taking over him face. James squeezes his hands reassuringly. “And I won’t deny that now she’s a very good friend.” Regulus furrows his eyebrows. “But I haven’t had romantic feelings for Lily in a very, very long time.” James reaches up to smooth out the lines on Regulus’ forehead then lets his hand settle on Regulus’ cheek. “And I want your heart to know, that my entire heart belongs to yours. And it has for a very, very long time.”

“I know.” Regulus mumbles again after a moment.  

“I know your head knows that…” James says as he pulls Regulus onto his lap.

Regulus sighs. “My heart wants to, it’s just…” Regulus trails off.

“I know.” James tells him.

“Do you?”

“Yeah. I do.” James whispers. “And I plan on loving you for a very, very long time. Your heart will get there. I’m not worried.” James smiles.

James lets his hands fall to Regulus’ hips and Regulus leans forward to rest his forehead against James’.

“I’m sorry.” Regulus mutters quietly.

“You have nothing to apologize for, love.” James tells him then leans back slightly to look at him. “But maybe tone down the affection just a bit when we’re in public.” Regulus rolls his eyes and James squeezes his hips. “There are some things I want just for myself.” James pulls Regulus closer and kisses him deeply. It would almost be bordering inappropriate, but they’re not in public anymore, so James deepens the kiss even more.
