Ateez concert experience - Amsterdam!

Featuring an AMAZING kpop group, but a horrible organiser

I just realised I never wrote my concert diary out on here, even though I had been writing about it in my notes app. So while it's late, time for a concert recap from Ateez Amsterdam 2025!

There's a lot written, but feel free to just skip the reading to watch the video(s) and look at the pics I took!

Part 1: Queueing outside

Me and my friend Lisa left in the VERY early morning to queue. The concert was in Amsterdam, but as we both live in Southern Noord-Brabant, we had to take a train for a few hours. Taking the first available train, we arrived at the venue at aroun 7:30am, only to see about 500 people already there (even though we were told queueing wasn't allowed before 9:00am lol)

Luckily, we had VIP tier 2 called Atiny vip, meaning we could pass most of the people in line, only having to stay behind those with VIP tier 1 (called Ultimate).

In the queue we ended up meeting some new people, all lovely people from around our age too. One was called Lisa too which was a little confusing sometimes haha.

At some point we were split into queues per VIP type, and one for general admission. I, being a mom friend, had brought a roll of 50 trash bags to hang up around the queue, to try and keep people from lettering too much. Which... Kinda worked? I left my queue spot (with my friend Lisa keeping my spot for me), to hand out all the trash bags. And by the time we went inside, I saw literally all of them used and full! But there was still a lot on the ground, so really... 50 trash bags wasn't enough. Good to know for future reference I guess, but at least I did something.

Part 2: Queueing inside as VIP

Okay fast forward to when we go inside. It was about 1:00pm by the time my VIP section was let in. Bags were checked, tickets were scanned, and into the venue we went. And we couldn't leave again. Which... We wouldn't have to, right? Except we were only allowed to bring 1 "small snack" in, and no food could be bought inside until AFTER the show already started (meaning you'd have to leave your VIP spot to get food, and end up all the way in the back).

I personally snuck in 4 extra granola bars, meaning I had 5 snacks in total, and I had a MASSIVE lunch before going inside. Just to try and keep my blood sugar high enough.

And then we sat, for hours, in a hallway. People were chatty, it was a vibe. BUT, also hot as hell, bad air circulation, and ofcourse no real food and also barely any water (1 water bottle without a cap was allowed inside. Meaning a lot was spilled).

At some point I also accidentally ripped my jeans around the crotch. Wonderful...

About 2 hours into queueing inside, medics showed up and carried someone away on a stretcher. I guess they hadn't prepared for the heat + dehydration + starving as much as we did. Very unfortunate, cause I wonder if they ever got back, and if not, if they got a refund for the missed show... I'd cry myself to sleep if I paid €500 for a show only to miss it in its entirety...

Part 3: Soundcheck

It was 5:30pm, and suddenly we were allowed into the actual crowd area of the venue. Time for the VIP benefit I was most excited for: seeing Ateez perform with only our smaller crowd, for a more intimate experience, and with all lights on so they can also see us have fun and sing along.

And it was awesome!! I stood very close to the barricade, only 3 people in front of me. Tho I am short, so I couldn't see as much even while that close. I was on the right side of the extended stage, meaning if they were on the main stage I could see everything from a distance in full (if I was taller), and I could see them from the side if they were at the extended stage.

Part 4: The wait

And then soundcheck was over after 3 songs, the group left, and we had to wait again until the rest of the fans were in the venue. Which took an hour and 30 minutes. That whole time we had to stand on our squished spot with people trying to push to get a better spot. Some succeeded, as withouth me noticing that happened, suddenly there were 4 people in front of me. But whatever, still a good spot.

According to the organisers this is when we should have gotten stuff to eat. But again, that'd mean leaving your spot at the stage, and you'd end up in the back (as general admission was now also walking in, and the VIP section wasn't barricaded off). Thinking my granola bar dinner was enough, I decided to stay in my spot. Worst case scenario I could go to the back later during the show. How wrong I was...

Part 5: First half of the concert

Okay so the concert was AWESOME!! Almost all my favorite songs were performed, I got to see the members up close, I filmed a lot (also cause tall people in front of me made it impossible for me to see the main stage unless I lifted my phone up and looked at my phone screen instead). But yeah, overall a wonderful experience. But I could also tell I was getting exhausted...

Part 6: Collaps

All the pushing, all the screaming, the heat, the hunger, dehydration, pain in my legs and feet from standing for so many hours, it was getting too much. I thought I would be able to push through it for the entire show, but at about the halfway point, I started to fall through my knees. I informed my friend Lisa, and together we walked back out of the crowd to find a security person to help me out of the concert hall. I really needed to sit down, get some air, water, and recover. By the time we reached a security person I had started to lose vision, seeing black spots and overall more blurry. I was close to fainting for sure. The security lady and my friend Lisa practically dragged me through the end of the concert hall, and through the hallway. But not to a medical emergency area, cause it was full... (Yeah so many people were fainting due to the bad conditions we had to queue in for hours, the medical area was literally full at halfway into the show).

The security lady, bless her heart, got me some water, and my friend Lisa gave me some of her food which she snuck in and had kept in a pocket. After some time I was able to recover enough to go back into the concert hall, but we decided to stay all the way at the back (not that we had a choice anyway), but also kept a few meters between us and the people in front of us. Basically standing by the exit so we had breathing room. Physically I missed 4 songs, however I don't remember being in the concert hall again for another 5 songs. Meaning I missed 9 songs in total (if we include blacking out mentally).

Part 7: post collaps concert experience

After we got back we did honestly have a decent view. Since we kept a distance between us and the people in front of us, we could diagonally look over their heads to see the stage and the screens. It wasn't as up close obviously, but the view was actually kind of better, which is ironic.

I still got to see my favorite song at the end of the concert, sang along to the last 2 songs, and then the concert was over. And we left, asap. Got our merch out of the lockers, and got on the train as soon as possible (though it was so busy, we couldn't fit into the first train and had to take the second). We weren't able to take the train all the way back home to my city, but my mom and her boyfriend drove to the city we were stranded in and picked us up there.

Final thoughts

So the concert was an emotional rollercoaster. It was a dream come true to see my favorite singers live, especially so up close, and to have some interactions with them from the crowd. I'll never regret having gone to the concert.

That being said, it is by far my worst concert experience ever. I emailed the organisors actually about how badly it went and how so many people, including myself, fainted or almost fainted and had to be taken out of the show. And they just blamed the Kpop company KQ (even tho every other show of the tour went well and the only difference was the organisors...). So based on this experience, I am never getting VIP or a standing ticket for ANY concert of these organisors again. My safety is more important.

I really hope Ateez will come back to The Netherlands again before they start doing their mandatory military service, so I can hopefully see them live for a FULL concert one day. Even if it's seated and far away from the stages.

funniest part of Getting Sober is. ok im sure i talked about this at some point but i had a playlist of Thematically Relevant Songs i listened to while i was drinking for convoluted reasons i wont get into. anyway when i got sober i was like god even ignoring that most of these songs are gonna be triggers for the rest of my life because i listened to the songs most by volume while drinking so its sensory-wise linked, i listened to all these songs roughly once every four days for nearly 2 years straight, these are literally the songs i listen to most by volume out of all songs in my life, im sick of them, ill probably be sick of them forever. but that ended up not being true because now a month and a half later for the songs on there i can listen to without it being a major mental health disaster because i had associations for them outside of them being drinking playlist songs (like if they're pre-age-21 songs that were on the sadalinar playlist, for example), the fact that theyre songs that i like but havent touched for a month and a half means they feel fresh again

You truly weren’t sure how to do this. You had been alone forever and didn’t know how to adjust to suddenly having someone in your presence, wanting to be in your presence. 

You were at the airport, your flight with Seungcheol, he insisted you call him Cheol or another nickname but you weren’t too comfortable with that yet, leaving at almost 5 am this morning. So, you arrived at around 2 am, a driver coming to pick you up, ordered by HYBE. 

After packing yesterday, you realized that Seungcheol only had what he was wearing when he was transported, so you took him to the store to try and grab a couple of items for him to last until we got to Korea and he was able to get back home. He pouted almost the entire time, claiming he didn’t need anything, but you just ignored him.

Once at the airport, you had to go through customs and security, which you thought would take longer with Seungcheol not having any of his things. But you were proven wrong when the driver had handed you a soulmate passport, made specifically for those with the soul transport bond that had been transported into a different country. This meant that you had the same privilege and status as your soulmate. 

After going through customs, you and Seungcheol were led to a separate lounge, away from other people, besides a security member that had been assigned by Seungcheol’s company to stay with you until you both got to South Korea. 

“It’s okay, baby.” Seungcheol whispers into your ear, trying to ease your anxiety as he places his palm on your thigh, causing your leg to stop shaking up and down. You freeze again, so unused to any affection but he doesn’t act like he notices, instead choosing to rub his thumb against your legging covered thigh. 

You were anxious about everything right now. 

You were trying to ignore the thoughts circling in your head about being unlovable, the television program’s voice just ringing in your head. It was hard to overcome the cemented feeling of being unlovable and an outsider and then all of a sudden that idea being thrown out at the appearance of your soulmate in your bed.

You slowly relax into his touch despite your thoughts, causing a small smile to grow on his lips. He had a feeling your life was tough before he showed up, literally. He wanted to know everything about you, the way you took your coffee, if you were an artist of some type, what your favorite song was; he wanted to know anything you were willing to tell him. 

You felt the same, wishing to know who the person behind the screen was. You felt so comfortable with him already, not having the usual tense reaction to touch that you usually experienced. You felt like your body and soul had already accepted your bond, they were just waiting for your mind to join in. 

“I’m just nervous, I guess.” You let out a little breathy, wanting to take full advantage of having a bond. You’ve always dreamed of being bonded, and you weren’t gonna let anyone take it away from you. “All of this is so…new.” You threw your hands up, gesturing to everything around you.

Seungcheol turned in his seat to face you, his hand still working small circles into your thigh. He could see how much you lean into his touch; how much you crave that intimate feeling his touch could bring you. He was so happy to have a soulmate, and he was going to do everything in his power to prove to you that you were his and that he was going to treat you like a queen. 

But, before he could say anything, give any reassurance to you, his phone began to ring. He moved forward quickly, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead as he put an arm around you and pulled you into his chest to your head rested on his shoulder. Then, pulling his phone out of his pocket, he realized it was a facetime call from Hoshi, but he knew that all of his members were probably going to be on the other end. 

With you still in his arms, he answered the facetime. There were so many faces trying to push their way into the screen, whether to see you or to hide others, Seungcheol didn’t know, but it made him grin either way. 

You remained frozen as you watched the members of Seventeen, besides your soulmate, fight over the phone. This was just another reality check for your new world, being a part, even if it’s a small part, of the idol scene. 

Eventually, they all backed away from the screen as Mingyu balanced the phone on something so they could all be in screen. You look up at Seungcheol to see if this was normal, only to see him smiling at the screen with fondness, before looking back at the phone. 

So many questions start at once, everyone having something to say to you and their leader. 

“Okay guys. One at a time.” Seungcheol finally manages out between laughter as you tense up at the loud noises coming from them. 

“Can she understand Korean?”

“Are you guys at the airport already?” 

Those were the two questions you could make out, as they all tried talking at once again. You were frozen, shy at all of the members looking at you. You almost turned your head into Seungcheol’s shoulder, trying to hide your shyness and the blush creeping up your cheeks. 

Seungcheol could tell as well, squeezing your shoulder in his grasp before moving his arm to rest at your waist, holding you to his side for comfort before answering.

“She does understand some Korean, but you need to speak slowly for her to understand. She is Seungkwan and Vernon’s age. She is a carat. And we are in one of the private lounges at the airport.” Seungcheol answered the questions he heard, some shouts of excitement from the two ’98 liners being heard in the background as he answers Dino’s question. 

“It is very nice to see you, Y/n. We can’t wait to get to know you better when you get here.” Woozi spoke softly but was still heard by you as he waved to you. He spoke slowly enough for you to understand, thankfully. You were still a bit shy, but you knew you needed to be polite and respond to him, plus, you wouldn’t turn away the opportunity to speak to members from one of your favorite groups. 

“It is nice to see you all, too. I—uhm, I’m excited to get to know you all as well.” You respond in your best Korean receiving a big smile from all the boys, but the biggest grin from your soulmate who leans down and kisses you on the head, unable to help himself. 

The call is cut short from the hired security coming in to tell you both that he was ready to board the plane with you and your luggage. You only had a carry-on and a suitcase as well as your personal backpack that had your purse in it while Seungcheol had borrowed one of your duffel bags for the things you bought him and the stuff he was transported in. 

“We are about to board so we got to go, but I’ll text you when we get in the air.” Seungcheol ends the phone call after several thousand goodbyes are said.  

Once he puts his phone away, he leans down and grabs the handle for your suitcase while you put your backpack on and grab the handle to your carryon. Once he puts his duffle on his arm, he grabs your hand to hold in his and the both of you follow the security to the first class entrance. 

You felt like you were in a trance, having flown only a couple of times and being in economy every time. First Class was so extravagant looking. Everything was clean and you definitely felt out of place as you walked forward, Seungcheol leading you to your seats. As you passed by the other seats, you noticed a small blanket, eye-mask, and earbuds were placed on each seat as well as a water bottle and an empty champagne glass. The seats reclined into a bed and there was even a small side table and television in each seat pod. 

When you got to your seats, Seungcheol surprised you by placing your stuff in the overhead compartments and helping you into your seat-pod. You didn’t expect for him to do this, to take care of your things and you before himself. 

You had a feeling that your wishes for a soulmate were actually manifested in Seungcheol. Yes, you were a carat and knew he liked to take care of his members, but you weren’t a member and you were used to having to do everything yourself, always being overlooked and forced to be hyper-independent. It was such a nice thing that you almost began to tear up as he made you sit down as he opened your water bottle for you. 

“Why are you crying, baby?” He questioned you softly, leaning down to look you in the eye. You didn’t think he would notice, but he did. Which was something you were sure you would need to get used to.

“I’m not used to others taking care of me.” You whisper, answering without thinking, still too in your head over your soulmates caring actions. 

Seungcheol can’t help but to get a little angry inside, nodding his head at your words. He swears in his head to anyone listening that you will always be taken care of with him. He loves how open you are being with him though, that you feel safe enough with him to tell him to truth about your feelings. 

“I will always take care of you, my soul” He cups your cheeks softly, tilting your head downward so he could place another soft kiss on your temple, resting his lips there for a couple seconds before getting up on his feet and moving to his own seat. He doesn’t miss the blush on your cheeks though, beaming to himself that he can make you so flustered so easily.

You spend the rest of your flight playing twenty questions with your soulmate, Seungcheol having managed to put the divider between your seats down so you could see each other. It was a nice time, truly, just getting to know your soulmate without the pressure of everything you knew was going to happen when you get to South Korea. 

Once you touch down, your peaceful atmosphere was unfortunately broken. Before you got off the plane, Seungcheol receives a call from his manager who was waiting outside for you, that it has been leaked what had happened the past couple days and that the airport was swarmed with fans and paparazzi, waiting for you two. 

You could see Seungcheol was upset, his jaw tense and his grip tight on your hand as he holds you still. You didn’t know what was going on, only that you had to stay on the plan for a little bit longer while HYBE security and the airport security do their thing. 

Seungcheol remained on his phone, talking fast as he tries to ensure your safety while now bringing you into his embrace, holding you like he did in your room the morning before. His chin was resting on the top of your head as your cheek rested against his chest, feeling the vibrations coming through your cheek as he talked to another person on the phone. 

You stayed on the plane for an additional twenty minutes before someone Seungcheol recognized came onto the plane and over to you. 

“We have a route out and to the car. You can leave your things here. We will grab them.” The large man spoke to Seungcheol, before looking toward you and giving you a small smile with a nod of his head. 

“Okay. Come on baby.” Seungcheol looks down at you before pulling away. He grabs your hand again without even thinking about it and begins to lead you out of the plan. He holds you closely to him, your shoulders brushing against each other as you walk out to the plane and are suddenly surrounding by maybe ten large men, formed into a circle around you. 

You keep your head down as soon as you see the lights flashing ahead of you. You can feel Seungcheol hold you even closer, cursing under his breath at the amount of people waiting for you both. Once you got into the crowd, despite being surrounded by guards, you were scared. You felt like you dissociated once the flashes started, but you were brought back by a tug on your shirt. 

Despite the number of guards near you, someone managed to get their arm through them and latched their hand onto your shirt, tugging you to the side, and in turn, tugging on Seungcheol who had a tight grip on you. It was a split second, but the damage was already done. You could hear screams but you were now moving quickly, Seungcheol beyond angry and more guards came over. 

You could feel the tears building in your eyes, falling because you were too scared to wipe them away. You were too scared to move your body in fear of being grabbed again. 

You hadn’t even realized you had gotten outside and to the car when Seungcheol had opened the door for you and helped you in first. You saw someone sitting in one of the seats from the corner of your eye, but you kept your head down, flashing lights continuous in your vision until Seungcheol got in and the door was closed behind him. 

You were frozen, trying to calm yourself down as Seungcheol moves closer, buckling your seatbelt for you and sitting as close to you as possible. 

“I am so sorry, baby. I can’t believe we got leaked!” Seungcheol pushes out the last sentence in anger. He was so mad about the entire situation and was beyond worried for you. He could tell that what happened had scared you; you hadn’t spoken to him since the plane and you were practically shaking like a leaf. 

Seungcheol was scared. He couldn’t protect you in that moment and he almost lost you to someone tugging on your shirt. He had just found you and then almost lost you in a second. It would not happen again. 

Seungcheol only pulled you closer to him, hoping his presence would be a comfort for you before he turned to the other person in the car. 

“So, how did you win the competition to be here?” His voice was tense, understandably, but you could still hear some fondness in his tone as he spoke to the other person. You still hadn’t looked up yet.

“I snuck in while everyone else was freaking out.” Jeonghan teased, hoping to get you to look up at him. He wanted to ease the discomfort and fear he knew you were probably feeling right now. They were used to this. You were not. 

Jeonghan’s words had you looking up though, eyes red and puffy from your silent crying breaking both of their hearts. Seungcheol hadn’t even realized you were crying and made himself a mental reminder to do his best to pamper you tonight. 

“Have the company found the leak?” Seungcheol asked, his hand squeezing your won tightly still, not having let go since you got into the car. You could hear the anger lacing his voice, his determination to keep you safe only doubling. 

“They have. And they’ve been fired. It seems that someone overheard a conversation about your announcement to us. Everyone has been dealt with.”  Jeonghan didn’t hold back, knowing how his leader and friend got when something went wrong. No one wanted to get in their leader’s way when something happened to one of their members. He could only imagine how amplified that would be now with you. 

“Good.” Seungcheol ended that conversation, quickly moving onto another, more light discussion when he noticed your eyes begin to glaze over. He could tell something was wrong, but he would wait until you were both alone to talk to you about it. 

You remained quiet as you listened to Jeonghan regal the tale of what happened when they realized what had happened to Seungcheol and how excited the other members were to meet you. Hoshi and DK already fighting over who would be your best friend while Joshua and Mingyu were trying to figure out what kind of welcome gift to get you.

It seemed like the members were more excited to meet you than you could have imagined.

While Helluva Boss's songs are full of stupid, contradictory, and plain wrong lines, it's this one that really gets me...

TW/CW: S/A, Abuse

Because...it's just not true?

If it were about Blitz, I guess it could work? Blitz is basically selling his pride, dignity, and life to Stolas in order to get the book to the living world. It would be disgusting and cruel, talking about a victim like this and saying he "sold his life" to the person who's abusing him, but in a way, it would be tragically accurate.

But it's used against Stolas...? Why?

Stolas did everything but "sell his life". Before this line, Ozzie talks about how Stolas "had a smoking wife, a daughter too". But he still does? And even if Stolas "lost" Octavia and Stella like Ozzie said, he clearly doesn't care.

During Loo Loo Land Stolas neglects his daughter, not giving a damn whether she's happy, just using the day as an excuse of sexually harass Blitz. He only comes to realize his wrongs when Octavia literally runs away to cry about how she feels like her father doesn't love her. He makes a half-assed apology that Octavia has to accept, and all is well! Except it's not, because in Season 2, this happens AGAIN.

Octavia once again runs from her home and her father, this time because he was too busy getting a hate boner while arguing with Stella to give a shit about spending time with his daughter. He doesn't even apologize this time! Loona comes up to Octavia and gabs to her about how she should give her father a pass because he's just a poor, rich, abuser who doesn't know any better and is "trying his best".

Even more confusing, why should Stolas care about "losing" Stella? He hates her, she hates him. They can't stand each other and want to be rid of one another as quick as possible, so shouldn't Stolas "losing" Stella be the best thing that's ever happened him?

Not to mention, Stella acted abusively towards Stolas. Whether you agree with that choice for her character, she still yells at and throws things at Stolas. What would he "lose" from cutting off an abuser like her? If anything, he would thrive even more than he does if he didn't have Stella breathing down his neck like she does. Besides, if he divorces her, he keeps most of the important stuff (money, power, etc.) so even if he did "care" for her he's still well off without her.

And that leads to my biggest point: even if he loses Stella and Octavia, HE DID NOT "SELL HIS LIFE". NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.

He's still rich and powerful, plus he has powerful friends/connections. He can still have whoever he wants. He can still command others through either manipulation, force, or magic. He can still abuse those he deems lower than him.

Stolas can do whatever he wants. Stolas didn't sell his life for shit.

Back to WHO : the MV

This is a continuation of the earlier post that discusses the song WHO, by Jimin. That post was a first impression focused on the lyrics - while this one looks more closely at the MV.

(Remember this is my interpretation, not an official statement by Hybe)

The more times I watched the music video, the more I wanted to yell, because look...

IT'S REALLY STARING US IN THE FACE.

And again, kudos to Jimin's team because it's the most obvious thing in the world ever but only if you ALREADY KNOW what's going on.

Here's a summary:

The music video loosely represents Jimin's attraction/sexuality/love life as a timeline.

New colours - a new spectrum shall we say - filter into his life even though he's trying so hard to 'keep to the program'.

He searches high and low for a girl to love, but alas, nobody makes the fireworks happen for him. Then Billboard Boy crashes into his life, threatening to destroy everything. Jimin has to weather the storm and figure out where his place is because Billboard Boy is a major disruptor - a tornado in fact. In the end, the fireworks are popping and the chaos is happening, and Jimin has to just go with it and finds his place again. His colours have been getting brighter and louder as he goes along and in the end he's prepared to walk away from everything in order to be the spectrum he is.

<<I'm not saying it's literally a count of how many girls or boys or enbys he's kissed. I hope his kissed all of them and then some, frankly, but that's none of my business.>>

A few things to pay special attention to:

Burning cars > cars = masculinity. fire = hot. 1+1=2.

Dancers > people he's interacting with

Rough weather, as represented by the wind-whipped papers and eventually even cars being tossed about the set > His attraction to men (and dare I say it, culminating in a focus on one man in particular)

Colour flares, machine text, and marks on the tape (horizontal lines etc)

Jimin enters the scene looking like sex on legs (no surprises) and strolls casually onto the road. Immediately our view of hm is blocked by a pop-art style poster blowing across the screen. It's immediately followed by a car coming around the corner onto the road. The car is on fire. Jimin watches it pass by and follows it.

He follows the burning car.... and so it begins.

The narrative starts from before BTS even exists. Jimin encounters several female dancers who he has brief and sexy interludes with. In fact i don't think there's a single woman in this MV who he doesn't at least look at. He really does try everything (and everyone) in his efforts to find HER.

BUT WAIT.... rewind...

Let's go back to the poster... it depicts a street scene much like the one we see here, with the words:

WHO IS!! TORNADO OF LOVE

Note: those are exclamation points not question marks.

It's not a question. This is telling us UP FRONT IN BIG LETTERS that 'WHO' is tornado of love.

I could probably stop here and just say 'ok go watch it again' but it's too much fun to go through all the details.

So let's continue...

Jimin has a little more steamy choreo with the female dancers before the lyrics tell us he has so many people to see and places to go, and he leaves them and joins 6 other men in what looks like a work environment....

Hello we are BTS!

Yes you guessed it... like Yoongi did in Haegum, Jimin has his members represented here. (Fan chant going off in my head...) and more delicious choreography follows.

Notice that while Jimin was dancing with the girls, the only signs of rough weather were a few glittery specs floating through the air, barely noticable. Those bits of glitter multiply when he joins the 6 men, and instead of a sprinkling of glitter, it starts looking like a light snowfall.

That's all about to change....

The first moment of reckonning:

At the end of this section of choreo, as Jimin sings 'who is my heart waiting for' and moves into the next phase we have a barely visible flash of light across the screen and rainbow colours bleed into the footage (at 1.14).

This is also the moment the significant rough weather starts. I'd say this is where Jimin starts noticing how he feels, and the turmoil begins, because this is also where he makes eye contact with the camera (1.23).

He sees us watching.

Fuck. I had a moment here. There's a look on his face as he walks past the camera and stares right into it.

AUTO CALLIBRATION...

As another millisecond flash of light and rainbow colours seep into the footage, The machine text 'AUTO CALLIBRATION' appear on the screen and flash there for a couple of seconds.

CALLIBRATE: To standardise... by determinning the deviation from a standard so as to ascertain the proper correction factors (Meriam-Webster definition).

"Get a hold of yourself, Jimin. Reset (your behaviour and desires) to correspond with expectations"

Jimin makes a very determined bee-line for the nearest girl and dances with her, ignoring the burning car in the foreground.

This brings us to the next phase of the narrative, and the next location - the performance space in front of the OASIS cinema.

(Do you see the doors of the cinema - BTS referenced again).

As he dances with this girl, the camera zooms out and we see that a crowd has gathered outside the cinema, watching them, but the crowd does not seem friendly and the dance seems performative - the movements are exagerated and obvious. The girl has Jimin in a headlock at one point and then she pushes him away and leaves. All in all it's an unpleasant event.

At this point the BTS members return (Although now there's one missing) and they dance with and around a number of female dancers. flashes go off in the crowd as the choreo is performed.

As they dance the wind picks up quickly and papers and cans are blown about. Even when Jimin is obviously interacting with female dancers the weather continues to pick up. Dancing with the girls isn't helping.

The camera pulls back and we see the same car as before, still on fire.

This is the moment when the penny (or billboard) drops.

All the other dancers scatter, dissapearing in a matter of seconds as the billboard comes crashing down. The billboard blocks his path. Wherever he had been planning to go - or whatever course of action he had planned to take - this man on the billboard forces a new decision. Jimin has to rethink his plans.

Jimin turns and goes in the opposite direction to everyone else. (A similar scene occured in Like Crazy, Jimin going the other way, rejecting the norm, going against the tide).

The machine text flashes "REWIND ... REWIND" on the screen and we see Jimin heading back to where all this started... where the original car on fire was seen.

He's travelling his own path now, but as he walks, alone in what seems to be the wrong direction, we see the store lights brighter, reflecting off cars and filling the space around him.

He's going through the motions with the girls he passes but the interactions are brief and in one case he actually dodges the girl completetly.

He retraces his steps amidst the chaos, and the weather really goes nuts. Now there are cars being thrown through the air, streetlamps exploding. The storm is almost upon him.

As Jimin steps into that original street again, the one with the neon letters spelling BLISS, the machine text reads PLAY. It's almost ike he's having a redo, where he accepts who he is from the start and allows the chaos to happen. And the chaos DOES happen, because the tornado has arrived.

THE TORNADO OF LOVE.

There's a flash and the whole screen is flooded with colours, blanking out the footage.

Jimin can no longer dance in step with everyone else at this point. He's doubled over, belting those high notes at the climax of the song while the chaos rages in the background. Without the music to give his actions context, it almost looks like hes in agony.

Sparks fly, lights flash, even the film itself is affected...

He eventually gets it together and rejoins the choreography, picking up his life so to speak. But his callibration is forever changed. the colours that bled into his life are there for good now, and and as he walks away after the music stops, we see that those colours are not just for the performance, they exist outside of that.

A note about the light flares we see throughout the MV:

It was really hard to catch these, some of them were literal milliseconds. I had to slow the MV down to play at .25 original speed and even then they were fleeting - well hidden.

Only the one at the very end was really visible.

In this one, the word PAUSE appears, as the MV ends. I wonder if that relates to their military service?

The flares of light and colour, those rainbow flashes, aren't always easy to find. Youvhave to be prepared to seek them out.

We will find them if we look for them, but i think Jimin won't show his true colours until after the lights go down and the performance is over.

I respect his decision (if that's what that is) and i will continue to meet him here his stands. I'll support everything he does knowing what I know and I'll continue to search for and uncover the hidden messages he sends us.

How Annabel Lee and Lenore died

Or how I think they did... Part 2 I guess

Again sorry about anything in this text that do not make sense my english is not so good sorry.

Also this is a part two about my theory that you can see here. The theory by itself is there so please go check it because now I will just point more things that make my believe in that.

In a summary I believe that Annabel asked Lenore to murder both of them after someone exposed Lenore as a woman in their wedding and here I will point somethings that make me think this.

1. Annabel Lee manifestation

Annabel spectre was manifested after the Deans told her that she was murdered by the person who loved her above all else and later she said that the memories she has of her death are confusing so it would make sense for her be angry to Lenore for that but in any moment she shows to hate Lenore for that and still cares for her very much which is kinda weird (I mean how could you be so okay with the person who betrayed you, huh?). But if her last memory was something like be desperate for something she doesn't knew exactly what is and asking her loved one to kill her this thing of "you killed me but I still love you" would make sense (I think).

2. They devotion for each other

They both have a huge passion and devotion for each other with and one would literally gave the life for the other.

Every time Annabel thinks that Lenore is going to leave her she looks devastated and starts to cry, felling physical bad even so if Lenore have killed her from rage she would definitely not be so okay in the afterlife. She have said that there is no point in staying in Nevermore if Lenore isn't there and would literally give her life letting Lenore killing her if it is her will. If she was murdered by Lenore it would kinda of make sense for her to say those things since the only reason why she chose to die was to not be separated from her and there would have no point for her in want to be alive again without Lenore.

And Lenore also cares very much about Annabel, she often do anything that Annabel asks her to do without much complaining. When they were alive, she wrote Annabel a song even after say that she wouldn't and when they fight because Annabel is Leaving her she stills go to find her and burn her hole house (possibly killing some people) in the process. After dying, she follows her plan without fully understanding. Even when she's mad whit Annabel she still cares and thinks a lot about her. When she find out that she tried to murder Duke she gets angry but stills comforts her when she started to cry. When Duke and Pluto tried to kill Annabel she didn't even think twice before jumping to help her even though she was angry with Annabel at that time. And in the end when she found out about the hunt attacking the students the first thing she thinks about is Annabel.

3. Why Annabel keeps their death a secret

Again this last part must be only me going nuts but hear me out. When Lenore asks Annabel if they died together (Ch 29) she gives an ambiguous that could be because she was just playing with Lenore but also could be because she really doesn't know. I mean, if Lenore killed Annabel first there is no way for Annabel to know for sure how Lenore died so an ambiguous answer could be her realising that she doesn't really know if Lenore really committed suicide or if she was murdered by someone else.

And when Lenore asks again for Annabel to tell her how they died (Ch 63) Annabel says she does not want to tell Lenore how to think and feel about before she can remember herself because she is worried with Lenore reaction.

I mean, in the flashback of their death Lenore looks angry so she could have gotten angry with Annabel for proposing such a thing (dying together) but end up doing it anyway when she couldn't think of anything else to get them out of that situation. So I guess Annabel Lee doesn't want to tell Lenore how they died because Lenore got mad when she proposed this when they were alive but if she remembers herself she would understand that there was nothing else that they could have done at the time.

I was just gonna reblog the original "hey look I am toe-to-toe with this tiny ass stage" post I made, but I have a Mother Token face reveal + marriage proposal video to share with you all below the cut 👇

So some good news first, my ears are fine. Zeal & Ardor got a little loud near the end but, I had no ringing or tinnitus and no noticeable hearing loss. I had watched some videos of Zeal & Ardor and Gaerea on the East Coast from earlier on this tour, and the videos seemed fucking loud 🤷‍♀️ Not complaining, it was still great.

Backing up a few hours: my original plan was to get to the venue around 2-2:30 pm. I started getting ready around 1 pm, thinking that should give me enough time (venue was a 4 minute walk from my hotel). Turns out faking a '90s-style blow-out with a flat iron takes 3 times longer than just straightening your hair 🤷‍♀️ Who would have guessed? Anyway, after that and makeup and having a mini crisis about my outfit, I ended up going to the venue around 4 pm; 2 hours before doors. I must have PTSD from Sleep Token or something because I was expecting a full line but I ended up being #9.

Two Sleep Token girlies got in line behind me, but I was too shy to try talking to them really until later on. One of them, plus about three or four people in front of me, had a VIP meet/greet with Gaerea. About an hour before doors, a rep for that band came out and collected the people with those tickets and got shirt sizes and all that and I figured "okay, cool, he's gonna bring them into the venue an hour early." NOPE. Senhor Vocalist just fuckin waltzes out two minutes later to meet everyone. Like, I can't explain it because I haven't seen his face before but I recognized him instantly by his shoulders (then later by his tattoos). I made really fucking awkward eye contact with him and then decided the only safe place to look was the railing outside the venue. Anyway he greeted everyone really quick, then walked back inside for a minute, came back with the guitarist, and then the rest of the band joined them after another moment. Then the band just walked off with the VIPers and those fans didn't come back until doors already opened.

After the ID/ticket check, we lined up on the opposite side of the venue and I ended up at #5 in line (after letting the remaining Sleep Token girlie cut me, since she went in to use the restroom). They let us in right at 6 pm and I was the second one to the stage, standing right next to the first guy in line at center stage, which was literally only 2 feet tall btw. I had looked up photos of the venue online and it's literally worse (or better depending on personal perspective) in person.

The first band, Zetra, played us about an hour's worth of Mortiis music between doors and their set, which quite literally is DnD dungeon music. 10/10 do recommend, very vibes, much atmosphere. The duo themselves were amazing, and I realized after the fact that Sleep Token's manager plus Lyns (Espera) follow them so 👀

Halfway through Zetra's set, I realized the guy next to me was taking photos, so I worked up the courage to film two of their songs. I felt super awkward about it because I was three feet away from the guitarist. Afterward, he came out in a jumpsuit after the set to help break down, but was still in full corpse paint and had his hair stuffed into a baseball cap. He chatted with the front row a tiny bit as he worked and he’s super nice and funny 🥹

Right before Gaerea went on, a girl with a media badge squeezed in between me and the other guy at center stage for the first two songs. I'm still trying to find her social media because she got tons of great shots and some footage. Meanwhile, me on the other hand, got three and a half chaotic videos that consist mostly of Senhor Vocalist's groin 😭 Like, ISTG Senhor, I'm not trying to film your crotch, its just that I cannot hold my phone any higher (would literally be shoved in his face) or lower (I wouldn't be able to see my phone screen) 😭😭 About 75% of the time this happened I would panic and film the guitarists and bassist or the drummer. Aaand then the video below happened 🤩

I guess we are legally married now 🤷‍♀️ idk I don't make the rules. Anyway, hi, that's me, making major heart eyes for like 3 frames. You can also see the Sleep Token girlies right behind me. Even though I was in the front row (I keep wanting to say barricade but there was no barricade lol) it got really hot between Gaerea and Zeal & Ardor. Like I was regretting wearing a turtleneck sweater (Yeah that was my panic outfit, black turtleneck + 90’s hair + ripped skinny jeans + platform oxford shoes because I am insane). It didn't cool down either, half the guys around me plus Zeal & Ardor were drenched in sweat halfway through. Didn't affect their stage presence at all though; Manuel is actually very smiley/giggly and it made everything a million times better. Actually, the fake setlist gives you a pretty good idea of the vibes:

18 hours later you gave birth to identical twins

Let me tell you that seeing those bbs filled his heart with joy when he saw them both in your arms, the both of you crying tears of joy

Sae 100% is nervous with holding his own children, but when he does, you swear you could see his eyes gloss over as he looked at them with absolute love and adoration

You asked one of the nurses to take a picture with your phone of Sae as he spoke to your children, introducing himself and telling them how beautiful they are

You sent that photo to his coach with an apology and his coach immediately understood. They still won the game

Once the three of you came home, Sae took care of one while you cared for the other. One baby is hungry and the other needs a diaper change? He’s on it. Time to switch? He’s on it.

He even wakes up with you when they wake up in the middle of the night. Once he gets used to taking care of them, he tells you to go back to sleep cuz he’s 100% got it

He forgets about the baby monitor and you listen to everything, his soothing voice as he talks to them, praises of love and it just makes you MELT

He’s there for all of the milestones. He refuses to be anywhere but home for them

As they grow, of course the three of you go to every game as Sae argues the three of you are his lucky charms so away games, home games, you’re there

Bless these children they look like carbon copies of Sae and they absolutely ADORE him

Everyone sees Sae as this emotionless man but the moment the game is over and your children run to him, his expression does a complete 180 and he’s all smiles as his children run to his arms

Your children grow to be as athletic as he is, but only one is interested in football, which he’s more than happy to help teach, while the other wants to play volleyball, which is your forte (a/n it’s my favorite sport to play I miss it so much)

He wants to witness the miracle of childbirth so he’s there holding up on leg and watching the entire thing while excitedly telling you what’s happening almost like you can’t feel the entire thing because unfortunately for you, you were ready to push once you got into the bed

The entire labor lasted 2 hours and your baby was born with his blonde hair

Kaiser was the first to hold your child and he’s just tears

He kisses the two of you on your head while praising and thanking you

While he was annoying during labor, your heart melted nonetheless that he was so excited the entire pregnancy and birth and you just fell in love with him all over again

Once you’re home, he’s insistent that he does EVERYTHING because he truly wants to

Of course when you argue that he needs his rest for practice and games, he thinks about it and agrees with you, so he’s more than happy to share the responsibility

He is the literal cutest dad and he’s there for every milestone

Melted when his child said “dada”, even if it was their second word (first was amma, which is what his mother is called instead of grandma)

She is OBSESSED with her grandchild

She’s so in love with Kaiser’s little family in fact, as soon as Kaiser chose you to spend the rest of his life with, she was completely on board because she knew you were different from other women

He’s insistent that you don’t have to be at every one of his games but he’ll always look for you in the crowd

And there you are with your growing child, with them wearing his jersey and let me tell you, when he sees you both, his heart is so full of joy and love that it takes everything he can to not immediately run to you both

Except he actually does

His body moved on its own and before he knew it, the two of you were in his arms

His coach was yelling the entire time and you flicked Kaiser’s forehead

“What are you doing running out of an ongoing game?!” “Mein liebe! I didn’t mean to!”

Pouts the rest of the game both because of his own action and because you flicked his forehead

Once the game is over, he trudges up to you, still pouting

Seeing how pathetic he looks, you kiss his cheek and apologize (part just because he’s being annoying and part because you actually do feel bad when he was just so happy to see you two)

Your child makes it even better by wanting to be held by Kaiser and it just makes him so happy

Of course the paparazzi has photos of Kaiser speeding to you guys and hugging you, which appear in articles

Kaiser literally gives 0 fucks because he’s proud of his family

As your child grows, they’re a perfect combination of the two of you with Kaiser’s hair and eye shape but with your eyes and nose, which are Kaiser’s favorite parts of your face

And boy let me tell you this child has the self esteem of a god being the child of Kaiser

And he encourages it because he has the same self esteem. As much as you’ve tried, Kaiser’s genes just push through

Unlike Kaiser, your child prefers singing compared to football and let me tell you this. child. can. SING.

Even though your child won’t walk down the same path as Kaiser, he’s not upset in the slightest. In fact, he’s incredibly proud and supportive

Hires the best vocal teachers to help your child continue to grow with their vocals and even hires the best guitar teacher when they expressed that they wanted to learn guitar

This child ends up growing up to look GORGEOUS and uses the same red eyeliner as Kaiser does

Of course Kaiser wants another one to which you happily oblige because he’s such a good father

And he loves your second child just as much as the first

When Oliver heard you were pregnant, he was estatic

While he was a playboy, he settled down the day he fell in love with you and it shocked you to no end because you knew he was a playboy

Anyway back to dad!Oliver

Thankfully you were both at home when your water broke so Oliver had it all taken care of. He was so calm while he grabbed the bags and helped you into the car

While you were getting contractions in the car, Oliver helped you practice the breathing you both learned in parenting class

Unfortunately there was a huge traffic accident that stopped all traffic so Oliver ended up pulling over and you had no choice but to give birth there

A few EMTs even came by to assist and Oliver was the one who delivered the baby

As soon as the baby was born, Oliver used his own shirt to wrap them in

Even covered in blood and afterbirth, Oliver thought they were the most beautiful being on this planet besides you

The EMTs ended up calling another ambulance to take you both to the hospital, the entire time Oliver was praising you. You’re his literal hero

Once settled into the hospital, Oliver peppered you with kisses

He would sleep next to you in the bed

There were a few complications so the baby had to stay in the NICU and Oliver literally did not leave your side

Thankfully after 2 days everything was fine and you both were able to leave the hospital

Oliver insisted on doing everything for you so that you could heal and because he genuinely wants to help take care of the baby

But when it came to feeding time, Oliver happily cuddled against you while leaning his head against yours as he watches your child feed

Literally cried when your child held his finger for the first time while you were feeding them

He did end up missing some big milestones but was still ecstatic to receive videos while he was overseas

Video chatted with you every chance he could

You didn’t even have to worry about his eyes wandering because they were only on your child

You became a little jealous but he always made sure to never keep his attention away from you

During interviews, he boasted every chance he could about the two of you and even showed photos of your child

Like Rin, Oliver posted his social media of pictures of the three of you

The one thing your child did not receive from Oliver was his heterochromatic eyes which honestly eased his worries because he didn’t want to subject his child to bullying kids are dicks

But damn other moms be complimenting on how gorgeous your child and husband is

Literally is a carbon copy of their father they might as well have just detached like cells from Oliver from their looks to their personality and to their absolute love for you

Oliver will have to figuratively fist fight his child for your attention

So once your child goes to sleep at night is when Oliver attacks

The amount of times this child has cockblocked Oliver has enough to force someone to babysit while he takes you out with which you’ll end up at a hotel

But seriously, Oliver is also a devoted father. He loves his mini-me so much

Takes them to practice and that’s where they discovered their love for football

Oliver cries when he finds out he’s not his child’s favorite player: it’s Sendo

This child unknowingly set up the biggest rivalry in Oliver’s soul and poor Sendo

So when Oliver offers to teach your child football, the lack of seconds it takes for your child to say no they want Sendo to teach them broke something inside Oliver’s soul

He ended up whining as he hugged you from behind while you’re cooking dinner

Give this poor man some love sweet child

After giving Oliver advice, he joined in on the training and fully bonded with your child

But he’s still not their favorite

It’s ok though because he’s your favorite player in Ubers and when your child starts playing in school, they’re both of your favorite

Nagi was done with him even then but he was best man and was honestly too lazy to leave

The first thing Reo does in the morning is hug and kiss both you and your stomach. As well as when he leaves. And comes home. And is the last thing he does every day for the entire pregnancy

It melts your heart every time

Reo comes home from every away game with a mass amount of baby things and you have to literally have him call you to tell him to stop because the baby has enough things

Unfortunately, the day you went into labor, he was overseas and in the middle of a game

Once the game was over with their win, he checks his phone to see a call and text from you to tell him you went into labor and his. heart. SANK

He immediately FaceTimes you to apologize and check on you as he’s speeding to the airport in a taxi

By that time you had already given birth

It’s the one thing he regrets to this day

He ended up taking the next flight out and couldn’t make it to the hospital until 2 days later, which was the same day you could leave

Reo had his driver take the three of you home so that he could make up for everything he missed like holding his new baby for the first time

Reo kept crying and apologizing to you for not being there

It took so much to calm him down because you knew this could be a possibility and you’re not upset with him at all

He’s upset with himself and you understood this as well so you distract him with holding your baby once you got home

And let me tell you, that just made him cry more because he was just so happy

You didn’t even know this man could cry so much when you first met please send help

But you know this comes from the absolute love for his family so all you needed to do was hold him with one hand while your baby held your finger as they slept

Once you get home, Reo carries the car seat while you held onto his hand to go up the stairs to the elevator

As soon as you’re in the comfort of your own home, Reo sits you down and places the car seat in front of you so you could show him how to hold your newborn

Poor guy was so nervous, but as soon as he held them, his eyes widened with complete adoration

This child has Reo’s eyebrows

They’re a bald baby so the hair color is unclear but Reo sees this child as nothing less than beautiful because they were a combination of the two of you

Reo looks at you while grinning with tears in his eyes singing nothing but praises and thanks to you for making him a father

Little did he know you were taking photos of him and your child and sending them to his mother

She visited you a day before Reo flew in and it was almost as if she became the same woman Reo remembered in his childhood. She asked to keep it a secret because Reo and his family were still estranged

You also made your favorite photo your lock screen

Unfortunate for Reo’s team but after missing the birth of his own child he wasn’t missing anything else and ended up taking a break from football to be there for all of the milestones

Financially, he didn’t need it and Nagi still came over to keep Reo updated with everything happening as well as practices

Nagi absolutely adores your child

Sometimes you’ll find Nagi dozing off with them sleeping on him and you’ll catch Reo already taking pictures

But Reo does the same thing

When he learned about skinship, that was the only way he would hold his child

So there would be times where Reo would be napping with your child on his chest and you ended up using this as your new lock screen

Of course you’d also send it to Reo’s mom, who was so happy with knowing Reo is a loving and devoted father, which was something he strived to be in order to not provide the same childhood Reo had

In fact, the day he found out you sent pictures and updates to his mom, he was furious. Not with you, but his own mother to make you keep this a secret

You had to calm him and take fair share of the blame while explaining that his mom genuinely wants to be there for her grandchild

For the first time since he left home, he contacted his mother and invited her over. Just her

What you witnessed afterwards was a breakthrough in their relationship because again, Reo did not want to be like his father so after this, she was around more often

Once the child was a bit older, Reo went back to play football, which his mother supported

The three of you went to every single game of Reo’s

You end up finding out that Reo’s mom had watched every game since Reo went pro but this was her first time going to a game

You end up wearing Reo’s jersey number and surprised your husband with your child wearing it too

Reo’s heart was so full of love and adoration for his family that he and Nagi were unbeatable

After the game, he met up with the three of you and your mother sang nothing but praises

But guess what? There was one more secret

You were pregnant again

This time, he didn’t miss the birth since it fell outside of football season and his coach granted the last week off for him

This man still wept so much during labor and holding his newborn

As both children grew, the oldest resembled you and the youngest resembled Reo

The three of them would always play football together along with Uncle Nagi

And it was what they wanted to be growing up, just like their dad and uncle

Their favorite players? Reo and Nagi, of course, especially with their dynamic

At one point they asked why you didn’t play sports and your soul broke a bit when you said unlike their father and uncle, you weren’t a genius

Literally all four of them comforted you (Nagi because he felt left out)

We’re getting stupider.

A lot of the complaints for Season 2 of Arcane boil down to “I wanted to see X thing happen and we never got to see it!” All those complaints about the season feeling rushed or the pace being off is because people are angry the show that forces you to piece together information from context clues… forced you to piece together information from context clues. I guess that’s a lot of mental work, and people don’t wanna work.

I genuinely believe people don’t have the energy or capacity to THINK anymore. They need everything given to them right now. Feeing confused by a plot point is distressing! It doesn’t matter that it will get explained later in the film, if your audience is upset NOW you need to pat them on the head and hold their hands NOW.

And I don’t think that just because of the weird Arcane season 2 backlash.

I’ve gone back and rewatched Iron Giant recently, one of my favorite movies growing up, only to find that they’ve ADDED a whole new scene that didn’t exist before which explicitly explains where the Iron Giant came from and what he was designed to do. That completely takes the mystery out of his character and ruins the and surprise when he turns bad in a fit of rage. We didn’t need to see that, because the context clues were self evident. We literally see the bump on his head that’s been blocking his memory pop back into place and he immediately goes into a rage. That’s all we needed. Now it just messes with the theme of the film and makes Dean look stupid cuz he watched the “dream” the giant was having on the TV.

They did this to Beauty and the Beast too. They added a whole new song that didn’t exist to explain how the fucking talking furniture want to be “human again.” I don’t care if that was in the stage play adaptation, it’s not be beneficial here in the movie. It just completely stops the forward momentum of the film and takes its carefully focused attention AWAY from the budding romance between Bell and the Beast to spend 5 mins watching the furniture dance around… again. It’s pointless.

Why are people so impatient and stupid these days? With so much media around us, I would’ve expected people to develop media literacy better, but I guess the exact opposite has happened? People are just so less willing to engage with media on its own terms.

Is this why we don’t get mysteries anymore?

The Origins, Ramsay Fiction & The Confusing Mishmash of Everything Before Fix Me - A Marianas Trench Retrospective

Okay, so my post got likes, but I only got one actual response from anyone, agreeing with me on the fact they like things in chronological order. So, I guess it's time to talk about the bands early days, eh?

The truth of the matter is, the band as many know them started in late 2003 and early 2004. Anything before that gets placed in this weird murky middle section with a name change, members leaving, and also a complete and utter mess of when Ramsay Fiction came to an end and where Marianas Trench begins. We have located a demo disk from 2001 with the Marianas name on it, but we also don't have any dates as to when certain things were recorded or uploaded onto MP3.com.

Here's what we do know: Josh Ramsay, a teenager dealing with both an addiction to heroin and an eating disorder, loved music from a young age. His father owned a recording studio, and his mother was a vocal coach. Music was literally in his blood, but even though the two had connections into the industry and everything, he set out to make it into the business on his own. And he knew one thing for certain: He DID NOT want to be a solo act, he wanted to be in a band.

The issue for Josh was getting that band together. At first, it was him and his sister Sara (backup vocals), her then boyfriend and later husband Trevor Spilchen (on bass, even though he was a guitar player), Josh's friend Steve Marshall (on guitar and backup vocals, despite being a BASSIST), and a rotating list of drummers, eventually finding Ian Casselman in a series of classifieds in a newspaper late into the bands life. This lineup didn't last long, as once Sara became pregnant with her and Trevor's first kid, they stepped aside... leading to 2 new members joining: Josh's friend Matt Webb (originally a keyboardist), and Steve's pal Morgan Hempstead (the man who bestowed them the Marianas Trench name). It's tough to say who plays what on a lot of the Ramsay Fiction tracks that make up Cooler Than Me, as I think they come from two different recording sessions, if not more. Same goes for a lot of the self-titled EP work too, as we know at least two tracks from that era, an early recording of Fix Me, and a early recording of Skin & Bones, were both first made public to people in 2004... months after Steve and Morgan left, and Mike Ayley joined the group after getting to know everyone as Ian's roommate.

In fact, for the longest time, a lot of the Ramsay Fiction stuff was lost media, songs that nobody outside of a rare few had ever heard. As of April 1st this year, this is no longer the case, and all the songs have been found and preserved (yes, even PMS... despite it being taken off Youtube, has been saved.)

To talk about these songs is hard. There's definitely a lot of emotion and pain in these tracks, and the overall sound is very 90's, going for more of heavy grunge and alternate rock sound, very reminiscent of Matthew Goode. But you can also hear those other elements creep in from other acts Josh has referenced time and time throughout in small snippets. The biggest thing holding a lot of these songs back is a mix of production (which is still insanely impressive for the time period and the fact it was done by a teen no less), and lyrical ckunkiness, making them semi hard to decipher.

What do I mean by this? Take track 1, the one everyone knows: Primetime. The song's verses speak about how something is this, but the person is the opposite... bu we don't get a clear picture of who the person is.. only that supposedly a hit of heroin will make everything feel better. It's odd that this is the song that's somehow lasted the test of time out of all these tracks. But hey, it did lead to a great callback on End of An Era.

Track 2, Shiny Like Dirt (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG-OoIsFbow), is truly a song where Josh took a ton of ideas he had for songs, and threw it against the wall to see if it would stick. And... it does stick, but also doesn't? The chorus is super catchy, basically admitting he's a confusing person, and that nothing he does makes sense... and yet, despite it all, he still has fears of the unknown. The "coming up for air" bridge is probably my favourite part, but it's definitely an earworm I return to occasionally. I've also linked it in case you've yet to hear it.

Track 3: Shallow. The song we've known about for the longest time, the one the fandom cherished like a baby... and honestly, it's probably my least favourite? I've tried to decipher the lyrics on this one for ages, but I can't come up with anything concrete. I do think the song has a good tone, and the guitar solo is totally awesome. In fact, there's a lot of great guitar and bass work throughout a lot of these songs. But there's something missing for me on this one.

Track 4: Playing Dead. This seems to be the earliest recorded song of this bunch, going off Josh's voice here. And honestly, I think it's the closest tonally to a current day Marianas Trench song. There's a bit of a swing sound going on in the drums, the harmonies.... and it's an interesting number overall. Also, it's our clearest sampling of Steve's voice, and just how close it is to Matt's vocals xD... it seems to be a simple love song about a girl and how he's open to roleplaying almost anything with her, using "playing dead" as his main metaphor. It's the black sheep of the CD, but a good one.

Track 5: Hideous. Here we go... the first track Josh ever wrote about his bulimia and depression... and how it was eating him from the inside... and how he was asking for help, even though he wasn't fully ready to accept it at the time. The beginning parts are very slow, and methodical.... only for the song to pick up energy in it's second half and become truly one of the standouts on this album.

Track 6: PMS. Okay... so... this one is tough to talk about. We knew for years it was supposedly very comedic in nature and that it was also politically incorrect, but that was it. As for the song itself, I personally really love it. It's a song about Josh being petty to a girl and truthfully telling her off. It's definitely of its time period, but in the best way possible. And once again, the guitar work here is SO GOOD. If you can stomach a song that truly is a time capsule and understand that Josh would never write anything as juvenile today, give it a listen.

Track 7: Don't Touch Me. The song that holds a special place in my heart... as I was the one to LOCATE IT after 18 years in the massive pile of MP3.com links that were given to the Internet Archive in 2021. And it's a ballad all about Josh dealing with both the arguments and turmoil he would feel when coming down from getting high. Truthfully, this might be the most emotional song of this batch, and one that definitely sticks its landing.

So, my overall thoughts here are to give these songs a listen, and understand them for what they are: the start of a musical prodigy finding his footing and his sense of style while getting clean and hoping somebody, anybody, would give him a chance. While the tone might not have influenced Josh’s style fully going forward, there are elements from these songs that were taken and repurposed into later Trench tracks.

Luckily, and also sadly... Jonathan Simkin & Chad Kroeger gave him that chance. And thus, we got ourselves a self titled EP... and a full title debut. But that'll be next time.

ahem. hi. post-watch Knight here, with a big tw: there is a suicide mention and intense death wishing at the end of this post. you can guess who it's directed towards but if you've already seen the episodes I don't think you'll get it wrong.

Dear. Army

I went to bed last night thinking that we won't be getting anything substantial on 7/6 even though we had a calendar showing us this:

Only to wake up this morning to discover this was uploaded to Weverse at 10pm KST on 7.6.23 (and an hour later to YT).

Where do I start?

By saying how amazing JM is, how much I love him and his voice and this song.

This man is an angel pure and simple.

What did I notice?

First of all the big ass miss out by releasing it at 10 pm KST and not 10:13 pm. All it took was a little more thought put into it. Just a little more.

Well, the next most obvious is of course the absence of a certain Jeon Jungkook in person, performing this song together with JM.

And why do I say in person?

Because even though every other single background sound and vocal was wiped from this performance, JK's background vocals, although subdued, were still there.

Do I admit that I am disappointed?

Fuck yeah.

I'm not only disappointed, I'm actually furious. Not at JM. Not at JK. But at the friggin company that isn't allowing those two to be in one frame, and has been doing this for months now.

And if you pipe up and say: "well that's not true, we've seen them in content together", stop for one second and think about what you are saying, what content that was. Ot7 content (no choice they are all there - and when they were, thinking of the last BTB JM was as loud as fuck, can't help but wonder why - or not) and JM's dance practice BTB, in which we got to see less than a minute of JK at JM's SMF pt. 2 practice. And about that one: first of all, we probably wouldn't have gotten to see that one if not for JM and JK's interaction in JM's live mentioning JK came to see him practicing, and second of all, go have a lookie what was shown to us in that BTB (we don't even get to see JK arriving to the practice - perhaps not to show us not JM's reaction to him arriving nor just how long he stayed there) and compare it to the Like crazy MV BTB and Jhope visiting JM.

And I'm sure I said this before, how stupid this all is, when it's as clear as day (well, thank god for JK and his rebellious streak) that these two are as close as can be. Couple or not. So wtf is the company so scared of? At this point, with everything that JK has been doing in the past few months (and it's not only JK, JM is part of it too of course, but admittedly JK is just not giving a fuck anymore, while JM is doing what he can within his own respectful and very intelligent way) it's bloody ridiculous not having them in content together.

You may think I'm over reacting here, but this is a long time coming, this angry rant of mine. And this here, as expected as it was, it pushed me over the line.

Like I said, It's not like I didn't see this coming. I knew in my heart that they will do this. Try to nullify Letter's importance to JM and JK. Whitewash it as a song for army. But somewhere, somehow, I still had some hope. Well, that one was a bust. And I guess knowing it's coming doesn't change that ache in the gut once it actually does come.

I ask myself, would it have been too obvious in their books? JM and JK singing this together? But why? If it's an innocent letter to army? A token of JM's love for army?

I guess we all know the answer to that.

So, then I am sitting here and thinking about what I said about JM.

How intelligent he is. How he does things within the 'allowed' limitations but still gets the message through.

He did it with the song's name for starters. It's not "Dear Army", which would make it addressed to army, it's "Dear. Army". By adding the period between the Dear and the Army, you literally have him addressing 2: Dear (which we know exactly who that is) and Army.

We have said this over and over again. This song is a song for JK disguised as a song for army. Dear does come first out of the two after all, lol. No, but this is just how things have to be, as long as they remain closeted, and that is totally understandable. This is how JM is telling us all what his feelings are for JK. He's telling JK and us. I know that there are those who believe that the song is talking to us in some parts and to JK in others. I'm not one of them. I believe this whole song (and the original lyrics say it all in my opinion) is addressed to JK. He is Dear. He is the one the Letter was written to. But in saying that, it was given as a gift to us. JM is allowing us to see what they mean to each other. And a gift that certainly is.

I also think about the fact that JM in this performance stripped the song down. No wave sounds. No harmonica. None of his own background vocals. The guitar, it's not him playing (unlike in the actual recorded song). All making it a little less personal perhaps (while singing it to army for Festa). But then, he made sure to leave one thing, and that's JK's background vocals, as soft as they may be, they are still there.

2 things I get from that (and yes, this is art and it's open to interpretation):

First of all, he's stripped the song of it's intimate setting (settings that were him and JK and what was between them).

Second of all, he left JK's vocals in but softer. JK isn't there with him, but JM is still telling us that JK is an inseparable part of this song. That the song can still exist without the waves and the harmonica and his own background vocals, but not without JK. JM even goes quiet at one point during that verse so we can hear JK's vocals clearer.

Maybe that's me being over melodramatic here, but that's what I feel at the moment.

Did you notice how JM doesn't look once at the camera, at us, while singing the song? Not once. The first and only time he looks at the camera, at us, and smiles, is when the song ends.

You know why?

Cause the man, he ain't singing that song to us. He's singing it for us to hear, but we aren't the recipients.

Oh, and did you see the smile on his face once he starts the verse with "baby", yes, that same verse where JK joins in?

I'm sorry, but you can even hear the smile in his voice as he's singing "baby"...

I apologize that this post isn't all filled with joy and gratitude that we got to see JM performing Letter (Dear. Army). But I have always been honest with you guys, and that is not going to change.

Don't get me wrong. I'm over the moon that we got to hear JM sing this live.

But I'm also sad.

I'm sad because I know how important this song is to both JM and JK. I know that JK would have joined JM in a heartbeat if only given a chance to, or more so, if allowed to. There is no way under the sun that JK was given the chance and declined. NO WAY. So there you have it.
