Jeonghan distinctly remembers going to sleep on his own with no one else on the bed. It was a pleasant surprise for him to see you on the other side when he rolled over.
If there was anything he enjoyed most about being an active member of the Korean military, it was that he was not subject to the grueling demands of an idolās schedule. He could just be a regular Korean citizenāsomething he hasnāt had the luxury to experience in about a decade.
He couldnāt say the same for you, though, who also worked in the entertainment industry with hours just as long as his used to be. It was evident in the way you were sprawled over the bed, caring less about how you looked and how you ended up sleeping. Your neck was in such an awkward position compared to your body that Jeonghan was so sure youād wake up with a stiff neck, and he would not allow that.
He knew you were as much of a light sleeper as he was. And as much as he wanted to caress your face or smooth down your hair, he shouldnāt for fear of waking you up from a much-deserved slumber.
But he wasnāt Yoon Jeonghan, part-time troublemaker, for nothing. And he missed you, as he did every day, so what other reason could there be to justify him not holding the love of his life as dearly as he wanted to?
You mustāve been absolutely drained because you didnāt even react at the gentlest of his touches. Jeonghan smiled and continued his soft strokes on your head. A forehead kiss did merit the slightest reaction from youāan automatic one where you seemed to involuntarily lean into the touch of his lips making contact on your skin.
He smirked. If only you could see it and how much it gave away how smug he felt to see you still craving for his touch. He checked the time from the standard military watch on his handā5:37 am. It was time for him to get up.
He checked his phone, tapping into your work calendar to see your schedule. You still had a few hours of sleep left before your shoot scheduled for 1 pm. That was good, he thought, you need all the rest before another chaotic variety show shoot until whatever ungodly hour of the night.
The military discipline easily merged with Jeonghanās idol discipline. It may not be the same for all fellow idols on active duty, but others have mentioned how similar both were. It was the implicit and discrete need for order and organization that both disciplines shared. It made sure everything was clean-cut and picture-perfect for idols on screen, and that everyone followed uniform standards with a code of conduct for active soldiers to learn.
Jeonghan was used to it. And such disciplines included even the simplest task of making the bed. He fluffed his pillow, he fixed the sheets he messed up on his side with a military tuckāand you didnāt even budge. You were out cold.
Jeonghan huffed a sigh, running his hands through his short-cropped hairāsomething he was still getting used to. āAigoo-yaaaaaā was all he said with all the endearment in his heart.
He shuffled over to your side and, as gently as he could, fixed your sleeping position to avoid that impending stiff neck of yours. He also fixed the clothes already riding up in places because of how haphazardly you put them on. Thankfully, you remembered to remove your makeup before going to sleep this time. He was almost late for duty the last time he stayed to carefully remove it for you while you slept.
Carefully, he fluffed up your pillow and fixed the sheets as much as possible. He opened up the blanket and let it rest on your sleeping figure. He so badly wanted to engulf you in a warm embrace, but he loved tucking you in and seeing your relaxed expression just as much.
He left one final parting gift: a kiss on your cheek. Okay, maybe more than one giftāanother kiss, a light brush of his lips on yours.
Jeonghanās military enlistment allowed him to be a regular Korean citizen. That just gave him more opportunities to spend time with you and treat you the way a regular Korean citizen would. It was a welcome break for your relationship if it meant he could love you without all of the lights and cameras and judgmental eyes in the way.
Walking from the bedroom to the kitchen, he checked his phone once again and opened the calendar app. Peering at the time block for 7 pm later, he made sure his schedule and yours was a free time block. He couldnāt wait to share the wild stories about him and his fellow military men that would have to wait until tonight.

SFW ALPHABET W/ DONNIE DARKO
ą¼¶ā¢āāļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ā”ą§āāā¢ą¼¶
Hey everyone! decided to do the sfw alphabet thing, i got rid of a few that felt unneeded or like id already partially answered them. hope you enjoy my loves <3
-ĖĖ ą¼»āą¼ŗ ĖĖ-
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Donnie as a very socially awkward and emotionally repressed person would be awkward with affection at first, i think heād want to hug and kiss you and be cuddly but get nervous of freaking you out or scaring you. He has the mentality that heās abit of a freak so heāll project that unfortunately. However as time goes on and he learns to trust and feel your love he will become very affectionate.
He definitely enjoys hugs from behind whether itās from you or him, not only is it cozy feeling but he occasionally likes to surprise you and give you a little scare because heās a tease
Donnie also and obviously enjoys handholding and kissing, heāll make sure to hold your hand wherever you go!
He isnāt particularly scared of PDA, he wonāt do anything extreme but i feel like heās a little unaware of his surroundings sometimes so heāll happily go for a kiss or a hug in the middle of the street.
Donnie feels most comforted at home, away from people and with you. Heāll be extra cuddly then, whether itās laying on your chest or getting his hair stroked heāll love the attention and warmth you bring to him and heāll do the exact same for you.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Donnie would probably be abit emotionally unavailable as a best friend not going to lie, i think heād have a hard time differentiating between why a best friend is different to a normal friendā¦ āshouldnāt you treat your friends all the same?ā
However after awhile itād be clear to him that youāre a trustworthy and good person, heād open up to you about a few of his moreā¦ complicated problems and may even impulsively tell you some weird things during his episodes
The friendship would begin probably with you initiating it through some sort of party or maybe at school, at first heād be a little distant and non chalant but after awhile he would have a genuine interest in your hobbies, life, personality etc
Heād probably feel most comfortable just hanging out in his room listening to music or playing video games maybe even reading or studying together.
Heād be loyal aswell, and open to listening to your problems as he out of all people would know what it feels like to have problems.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Cuddling with friends or family? absolutely not. But with a lover itās a completely different story.
Heāll try to smoothly initiate it but end up accidentally saying or doing something silly and youāll both laugh it off
Heās clingy aswell, not at first but as time goes on itāll show, even during the hottest of summer nights heāll try to link hands together as you sleep.
He looooves when you initiate it first, not just because heās shy but it shows you want him and thatās all he needs to feel appreciated
I can imagine you two both standing together at a bus stop on a cold snowy day, cuddling together with his face buried in your hair to keep warm.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
Donnie definitely wants to settle down at some point, i donāt see him having commitment issues but more so the complete opposite. Once heās found the one he wonāt let go and will do his best to be a good boyfriend OR husband despite his mental health.
Donnie would be a little messy about cleaning, heās not lazy (most of the time) and i think heād want the cleaning and cooking duties to be equal on both parts so heād be happy to learn to cook for you.
During possible depressive or psychotic episodes he would require you to be a little more understanding on why he may not be perfect at keeping everything clean, heād apologise in embarrassment but surely youād understand <3
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Donnie would be terrible at breakups, i think heās the type to dump and ghost and never speak again unfortunately.
Heād do the right thing by at least talking it out in person, but it would be an awkward conversation for sure and relatively fast paced as he wouldnāt know what to say afterwards.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Donnie would probably not really actually care at least too much about marriage, he wants it but he wonāt be asking to marry you straight away.
That being said that doesnāt mean heās not committed to you, heās all yours and he expects the same from you!
I can imagine it wouldnāt take long before he pops the question out, maybe at a pretty looking park or dinner date where he makes the effort to have everything be lovey dovey and romantic.
I can imagine late night conversations in bed with him, and him suddenly bringing up the idea of marriage. ādo you see us together in the future y/n?ā
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
Donnie is an absolute gentle soul towards you, heās never violent or rough and is absolutely terrified of hurting or scaring you.
He gets easily frustrated and annoyed but is quick to apologise and stop if you tell him he needs to calm down
Occasionally donnie will enjoy a little play fighting or a little pinch to give you a shock, but most of the time he prefers to just be gentle with you.
Emotionally donnie tries his best to be gentle, however heās filled with sarcasm and is a little bit of a meanie, itāll show and if you tell him you donāt appreciate it heāll try his best to repress himself. Otherwise if you enjoy it heāll probably like that and ramp it up a little more for the banter factor.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Donnieās hugs depend on where you are.
In public places his hugs will usually be casual and quick, heāll probably give you a kiss on the forehead too during it.
In more private places heāll be much more relaxed and give you long and heartfelt hugs, kind of bear hug like in a sense. He might rough up your hair and give you lots of kisses during it aswell.
Donnie is always happy to receive a hug from you too, he wonāt mind how long they are or how intense you are about it. He just likes that you want to give him one in the first place!
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Donnie doesnāt really understand social norms like waiting 3 months to say i love you, if heās with you in the first place that means he loves you. So itāll probably take less than a week for him to announce it to you, maybe even on the same day you get together. Heās fast paced with his emotions and words and is quite blunt about it.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when theyāre jealous?)
Oh boy do i have opinions on this.
Donnie will get jealous and heāll definitely ruminate and stress on it, HOWEVER he will not blame you for it unless youāre showing signs of cheating.
When heās jealous itāll take him a few days before he really admits it, in the mean time heāll be a little distant and more sad looking than usual. Heāll ask for validation from you like a sad little puppy whilst not even being open about why heās asking for it in the first place. The next stage will be him getting a little snarky about whateverās made him jealous which is where youāll realise whatās happened.
Donnie is a paranoid person, but for you he knows to try tone it down. If you realise heās jealous and just comfort and explain to him that he doesnāt have to be, heāll immediately feel comforted and better about it. Just donāt keep him waiting on it.
I think during his episodes heāll be a little more aggressive about it but as i said all he wants is the confirmation that you only want him.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Itās hard to tell with donnie whether his kisses are going to end up in a rough and steamy make out sesh or if itās gonna be just a quick little peck. Either way heāll make sure to kiss you on the regular!
Donnieās favourite places to kiss you are
Your lips (ofc) your forehead your cheeks your neck your stomach and thighs and literally anywhere else. lol.
Donnie personally likes to be kissed in those exact places too, especially his neck. it gives him butterflies.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Hmmm as a teen obviously he just likes to tease and make fun of them, especially his little sister.
But as he gets older and as heās stated himself he definitely wants to have kids, heād only have them if he was mentally well enough to handle them though.
That being said if he did have them and was mentally well, heād been a kind of ācool dadā if you get what i mean. Not afraid to be honest and direct with his kids about the world, maybe occasionally make a silly more adult joke or swear around them. Heād want them to be emotionally intelligent and know how to navigate though their world, so heād be cautious about the media and information they consume.
Heād also defend them against school authority probably lol. Even if theyāre in the wrong and theyāve done something stupid heāll be the first to say itās not a big deal.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
āNooo ten more minutesā type of energy here. you will not be leaving that bed until heās ready!
If hes in his bed cuddling you heās as happy as can be, he loves to stare and admire how you look when youāre sleeping so he always hopes to wake up before you.
Once heās out of bed heās abit of a grump for the next hour or so, he enjoys it if you happen to make breakfast for him but itās not a big deal if you donāt.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Thereās a variety of things donnie wouldnāt mind doing at night, heās kind of an all cards type of guy when it comes to it since the vibes of night just suit his needs perfect
Watching movies in his room or at the cinema Listening to music Reading Cuddling and kissing Other.. not so safe for work stuff.. Night walks and star gazing
Donnie loves any time he can spend with you really, heās not in a rush to go to sleep so heāll stay up all night with you if thatās what you want.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Donnie is not one too get easily angered, with you that is. Normally heās very easily riled up about how the world is cruel and everyone in it sucks. But with you he has an unbelievable amount of patience, heāll retort with sarcasm but is a natural problem solver and is always ready to talk it out.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
Donnie comes off as absent minded, but he will remember every single little detail about you. I wouldnāt be surprised if he had a little notebook or journal filled with information about you and your likes, dislikes, random facts and etc.
Donnieās the type of person to know and remember facts about you that youāve long forgotten, heāll buy you a t-shirt of a band that you mentioned liking three years ago and havenāt said anything about since.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Donnie is definitely a protective boyfriend, it comes from his paranoid outlook on the world. He would never forgive himself if you got hurt and he wasnāt there to protect you.
Although he isnāt a bodybuilder or anything heāll speak up for you and maybe even resort to a little violence. (or if heās feeling really crazy heāll pull a gun out like in the movie)
As for you protecting him.. heād appreciate you standing up for him but insist he doesnāt need it, if anything itād make him a little embarrassed.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
Donnie would definitely put effort into you, the fact that youāre with him in the first place amazes him and he doesnāt plan on losing you to laziness.
Most dates will be casual, if he feels like he wants to treat you to something nicer heāll work hard for it. His love language is primarily physical touch and gift giving imo, so when he works he has a tendency to work just so he can provide for you since he has such simple needs himself.
As for everyday tasks, he believes in equality surrounding that type of thing. But if he notices youāre in a poor mood or feeling sad heāll put in the effort to make sure you donāt need to strain yourself.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
The most obvious one here is his fluctuating and poor mental health, mental illness isnāt pretty. Thereāll be times where he needs you at his lowest and he might push you away during it. Thatās when you need to be there for him the most.
He also tends to be absent minded with your feelings, he might say or do something that makes you upset and not realise until you say something about it. This isnāt personal, heās just very straightforward.
Heās definitely a little possessive too, not to the point where youāre unsafe but heās terrified of losing you.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
This one is an interesting case.
He isnāt really worried with his looks but definitely has abit of a freak complex due to his illness and unpopularity at school, heāll appreciate when you compliment him. he needs it.
He might ask you what he can do to be more attractive, or if youāre really into him, the answer is obviously yes but he really could do with an ego boost.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldnāt like, either in general or in a partner?)
Donnie isnāt interested in superficial people, if you canāt have an interesting discussion with him heāll be turned off immediately. He also enjoys someone whoās at least somewhat reliable, you can have your own issues and mental illness but at the end of the day if youāre a complete mess in all areas he may just end up feeling like he canāt give you what you need.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
Besides the obvious sleep walking, donnie is a heavy sleeper. He doesnāt snore or anything but he definitely mumbles and grumbles throughout the night, he also will unconsciously hug and cuddle you for warmth.
Donnie may also experience frequent nightmares, if he wakes up from a really bad one he might wake you up for comfort
-ĖĖ ą¼»āą¼ŗ ĖĖ-
Annnnnd finished! i hope you guys enjoyed. If anyone is interested in an NSFW version please head to my ask box!

Ok no I'm not done being weird yet, here's another idea for the marriage canon event stuff
Miguel and other Spiders are getting on your ass about, "oh, how old are you now? Why aren't you looking for a husband yet? Why are you spending so much time here?" And are, you know, your friends who love you and for your own good are trying to get you to complete your canon so you, you know, LIVE, but the way you see it is, being forced to do something like that and sacrifice yourself like that isn't living. You're not going to actively pursue and seek out a relationship, you want one to happen naturally, and nothing has felt natural to you and you're afraid of being hurt like that, of being rejected, of opening yourself up to someone and not being good enough, but, O'Hara and the Society don't really want to hear that. It's escalating over time. Little comments here and there, people randomly interjecting their personal anecdotes about their family and their kids into the conversation, "oh this is just like when me and Mary Jane--" "oh my kid loves this flavor, she gets so excited, I like to be naughty and get her these as a treat"
So you reach the point where you're fed up. This is so massively fucking inappropriate of them. There's no "set age" for this kind of thing so why are they harassing you like this, acting like, oh, you gotta hurry and pursue shit right now, it's for your own good? It's just pissing you off and pushing you away. You love traveling to different dimensions and exploring new places and experiencing things that are literally out of this world but if the trade-off for that is constantly being badgered with this stupid narrative of having to sacrifice yourself, you'll happily go home and break canon and die, because at least you'll be truly living and making a choice
So anyways to get to the meat of this post: you've decided you're leaving the Spider Society and you're not going to talk to any of these bitches anymore, just haven't fully decided on when, but like, you're literally thinking within the next week, but you're still, there. And one day you're in the lobby, trying to stand around because you're supposed to go on some sort of stupid assignment, Peter B and Jess with you, the parents talking about baby stuff as you roll your eyes and Peter suspiciously needs you to keep holding Mayday until you're literally refusing, "just put her on the ground or something, you let her climb on walls and shit anyways"
And because you're in the lobby, this big open space with tons of people passing through, suddenly in walks Miguel with. Another Miguel, completely unrelated to the mission you and the others are about to do, kind of just bumping into each other as they pass through. Miguel2 just got scouted by his counterpart that he met during chasing an anomaly, and they're getting to know each other, and at some point Miguel2 is like "can my wife come too š„ŗšš she's also a Spider and I can't be here without her" and everyone is a little confused because there's supposed to be the whole only 'one Spider per dimension' rule besides like family, like Peter and Mayday, and you'll just never guess whose alternate universe variant is his wife :) another you comes bounding in wearing casual baggy clothes but looks so radiant and happy, all "hubby š„°" as she kisses her husband, you're just awkwardly sending glances to 'your' Miguel as you two are, understandably feeling awkward because, you're, coworkers, and here are two people who look exactly like you being all lovey dovey "princesa š„°" "guapito š„°"
This other you just seems so, VIBRANT and she's introducing herself and shaking hands and she sees Peter B, "oh my god you have a baby, I'm so happy for you, she's so cute!" And she's hugging him, and you watch Peter B's eyes go kind of wide and he looks down, "OH, you're like--" and Other You just kind of laughs and parts her coat, showing off her rounded tummy, "haha yeah, there's a baby in there! Number 3, we're so excited! š„°" and you're just. Simultaneously feeling some sort of fucked up combination of the most visceral and extreme discomfort you've ever felt in your entire life and also some kind of. Envy. Because she has everything you thought you didn't want and she seems so, SO fucking happy, with a husband who loves her, she clearly loves her babies, and she's being accepted by all of your friends instantly, like they're all gathered around talking as you're just, basically on the outside of the circle, actively putting up distance, only standing around because, uh hey guys weren't we supposed to be doing something--
Your skin is crawling as Other You uses her own watch from her husband to zip back to her own dimension and comes back with her babies on each hip, twins that she's just so happy to introduce to her new friends, who are SUPPOSED to be YOUR friends, "THIS one is Gabriella, and this one is Gabriel. Aren't they so cute? š„° theyre both so chunky they almost killed me but it was SO worth it" And once she realizes you're you, or, you're her, she wants to immediately chat you up and be buddy-buddy and goes to hand one of her babies to you and you. Refuse. Absolutely refuse. Suddenly you're the pariah of the group, both Miguels are sending you looks. Why are you being so fucking rude? Just put your arms out??? But you won't. You're just, soul-suckingly disgusted by this entire scenario. Not only is it putting an unspoken pressure onto you, but, seeing this other you be so fucking happy AND accomplishing all the things your "friends" have been badgering you about makes you feel SO indescribably insecure
Fine. Let it be like a revolving door. Another you enters Spider Society, one of you leaves. But you're so bitter and hurt you can't help but get in a jab at her, wanting to tarnish her "fake" happiness, feeling so personally hurt and offended by her very presence and existence in the room. "Hey so wouldn't your babies also be Spiders and have to suffer through the canon events too? And since you don't have any other family members, your kids' canon events might be YOU or Miguel dying? Aren't you glad you gave birth to your kids only to die and leave them without a mom and dad and forever doom them to a narrative where they can never make their own choices and are cosmically destined to be unhappy just because YOU wanted a cute baby? Sorry I guess I'm just built different. Hey remember how when we were little girls and we used to feel like mom only gave birth to us because she wanted someone who would love her and we resented her for bringing us into the world to have such a harsh life, aren't you so happy that's EXACTLY how your kids are going to feel about YOU?"
Mom!You is instantly bursting into tears and holding her little belly for comfort as her husband looks ready to tear you to ribbons, FURIOUS, all the healthy people in the room understandably disappointed and upset with you, like what the FUCK girl, meanwhile you're opening up a portal to your home dimension and just chucking your watch straight into the floor. "Keep this. I won't be coming back" while everyone is kind of dismissive of how truly upset you are, kind of just like "come on, don't be like this š" like you're throwing a tantrum when in actuality you're going home and are seriously considering selling Osborne or Doc Ock all of your radioactive eggs. You'll always be YOU before you're a Spider, and if they want to force you to put The Job above yourself your entire life, they're dead wrong.
Meanwhile after you leave, pulling each other aside for privacy, Miguel2 is asking your Miguel why he's risking breaking his own canon by not wife-ing you up yet and comparing notes from all of the other dimensions where you and him are together as your Miguel is shocked by the sheer number of same occurrences. Miguel is all on about, "what does this even mean, we're from entirely different dimensions", and Miguel2 over here just unapologetically, "so? My wife is also from another dimension, I just took her, she got used to it, it's totally fine bro, it's canon, just do it, just do whatever you want. it's fine bro I'M TELLING YOU--" and maybe even Mom!You is so, sucked into her own "it's ok I was initially forced into this because I'm happy now" world that she's even advocating, "oh gosh if I was her I'd be SO lonely, hearing how you two aren't even that close, especially not anymore, and you've all been avoiding her, and she doesn't even have a baby to care for and give her love š„ŗ most 'me's are at least dating right now, so, i bet she's feeling so much pain, she NEEDS YOU right now š„ŗ"
Peter B is sent to give you another watch and tell you, it's ok, you can come back, they promise they're not gonna bug you about dating and stuff anymore, and you're just all "nah, I'm ok! :) you can keep it :) I've had enough of you guys :) dont let the door hit your ass on the way out :)" meanwhile Miguel 1 and 2 are comparing strategies, "see, when MY wife was refusing to come back to me, what I did was..."
#yandere spiderverse#yandere miguel o'hara#miguel o'hara x reader#like maybe hes always felt drawn to you and was holding himself back and then he learns youre canon and like?#hes like Oh Ok so theres a reason im like this. its totally normal and ok i feel this way :) and its like nah dude youre a lil crazy...

This exchange made me realize that many of you tend to forget that Carmy is a late bloomer who never had any girlfriend before Claire which actually explains his awkward behavior. I know it because I too am an awkward late bloomer (around the same age as Carmy and sharing a lot of common with him) and his behavior totally made sense to me lol
I want you all to keep in mind that when you've been closed off romantic elationships for your entire life, you're not handling them the same way people who started dating in their teens or young adult years (Carmy is most likely in his early 30s and never got into any relationships before).
Carmy, like any late bloomer, was used to never being considered romantically, which explains why he freaked out when Claire started flirting with him and stopped thinking rationally (which is very unfamiliar for emotionally avoidant type like Carmy or I - we'll come back to this later). I understand Carmy's move of giving a false number to Claire yet still accepting to go out with her later may be confusing to many people, but as a fellow late bloomer I immediately clocked it : we are not comfortable with the attention people give to us, but we *know* this behavior is not normal/unhealthy so Carmy eventually giving in may be a way of eventually getting into the mold and abide to the "if you don't open up to others and give them chances, how can you expect building actual relationships?" mantra. Because deep down we want to be like others (because being so closed off all the time can become emotionally draining) and seek to find a way to fit in.
Another thing about people like Carmy/emotional avoidant type is that by being so closed off to the world, we are also extremely deceptive about who we truly are. It makes sense to me that Carmy hides his feelings for Syd and would rather project them onto Claire. That's definitely manipulative, but we'd rather do that than get "uncovered". We tend to think very rationally and our sense of self perseveration is incredibly strong. I just know that howing his bare feelings has to be one of the most terrifying and embarrassing thing for Carmy.
We also don't mind getting confused as someone we are not in which we feel some sort of relief because it keeps our real self away from others perception (if that make sense???). Carmy passing himself as "Logan" in that party -while being quite extreme- is totally on brand actually lol. I regularly get mistaken as a male (I'm lowkey gnc) but I never bother correcting people lol I'm fine being whatever they see me as, as long it's not the real me.
Talking about self preservation: we don't ask and don't tell. Carmy sister being mad at him for never asking her whether she was okay was extremely relatable because I tend to get the same reproach from my own sisters. Very typical of us. Fleeing to the other side of the globe to cope with a family member death is something I *get* because we are avoidant in nature. We can also be insane hustlers and tend to cope with grief or unhealed emotions through work.
On the positive side, we are extremely independent and self reliant. The scene in the fridge (last episode of season 2) where Carmy loses his shit and says he was mad at himself for indulging in all "this bullshit" (= love and relationships) I FELT THAT. Countless times I prayed to God to remove from my heart my "shameful" longing for love & intimacy that I always felt hindered me in my quest for excellence & satisfaction in any other aspect of my life. Because we are very rational & practical people and lowkey despise "useless" stuff like relationships and feelings. And that's where the messed up part comes up.
I wouldn't be surprised Carmy lowkey despises Claire for being so clingy and courting him so openly. As I just said, we tend to look down on (bold) displayal of love and emotion which lowkey repulse us. I think that's why Carmy dislikes his sister's husband when he's an all around good guy. He may have a resentment (and even jealousy?) against this man that has no issue showing affection - not only to his sister, but also the rest of the family. Which Carmy still struggles to do so far.
This may also explain why Carmy is suddenly so cold with Claire when he's serving her at the table (beside him allegedly previously making up his mind to break up with her). That's why the moment he hears that voicemail of Claire saying she "loves him" he THROWS AWAY his phone. Because that's disgusting.
I think the CarmyxSyd dynamic is unique because there's a dimension of respect between both. They share the same passion for cuisine, and Sydney constantly pushes Carmy out of his comfort zone. As an avoidant emotional attachment type myself, when I think of the type of people I potentially could be attracted to, I can only think of people I have deeply respect for, and bring objective value into my life AND skills. I've seen people criticize the fact that Sydney was pretty much a "warrior worker" for Carmy (and pretty much the whole Bear crew) and that's true. But regardless it's a good or bad thing, that's pretty much the type of profile that may attract avoidant emotional type of people. Bonding through work & shared passion is our safest field to build romantic connection through. That's why Carmy made Syd sign a partnership agreement instead of a marriage contract š
š¾ that's the safest way for him to convey his feelings.
Again, we are very rational people and in every type of relationship, we instinctively jauge whether & how this person might be useful for us. It doesn't mean we built relationship with people depending on whether they can be useful for us or not, but that's definitely in a part of our head somewhere. Yes, that's fucked up (1/because we are 2/that's why emotionally distant people can become pretty unlikable - i.e Carmy carmying), but you have to keep that in mind to understand how Carmy moves. Which tracks back to Claire's actual purpose I've elaborated just before. He definitely uses her, but most likely unknowingly.

ć»ļ¹ć» from vault 32 [1]
Summary: You got approved for a marriage partner from Vault 31 after not finding a suitable boyfriend in your own. After meeting your future husband, and standing ready to saw your vows, you both agree to call it off. But they couldn't not have a wedding- so you chose his cousin.
Warnings: 18+, arranged marriage
Pairing: Norman MacLean x GN!reader
Notes: Yes I love him and Cooper I am a man of many tastes. Also this was too long for 1 part so I broke it up. Where my Norm lovers at???
Parts: 2
Today was the day- you were getting married! Despite not dating much, you were excited yet equally as nervous since your new spouse was someone completely unknown to you. Sure, you had crushes here and there, but all the guys here were so...boring?
Nothing about them were interesting to you, they were all the same, so that led you to seeking out Vault 31 for someone. This was completely normal so it wasn't odd, if anything, it was just a matter of time. Well, the time came and was now just moments away from seeing your soon to be husband.
"We're so proud of you...we'll miss you but, just know that we we'll always love you" Your mother sniffled as she adjusted your appearance here and there, ensuring that you were as perfect as can be. You assured her that you would visit once a year and that everything was fine. You, your family, the overseer, and few other dwellers of your vault who you knew stood outside of the entrance to 31, and you were nervous. Then, the door slowly opened.
There he was, standing in the center just like you were with your vault members. He was tall, and attractive, but you didn't know what to even say. Then, your friend bumped into your shoulder as a sign to say something as everyone else was silent, anticipating you and your future husband to say something.
"Um...hello" That was not the ideal first impression, but you couldn't help it! You could hear your friend groan from the awkwardness, which was understandable.
"Hi, I'm uh...Chet. You can call me Chet! Haha...yeah, Chet" Either he was having an off day or he didn't seem too interested in you. Was there supposed to be some sort of spark? Because you know you didn't feel anything and it was obvious that he didn't either. Awkwardly laughing along with him, internally cringing, your graze drifted over to the much shorter man beside him.
Oh he was cute. Shorter than you, but he had short, black hair and all you could really describe him as was cute. Why couldn't you have been paired up with him instead? Your eyes and his eyes both met and only then did you feel that spark. But before you could fully process what that means- their overseer ushered everyone to their vault so the wedding can begin.
"Hi...Chet. So...excited? Nervous?" You tried to make small talk as you walked beside him, but it was if everyone around you could sense that this wasn't going to work out.
"Well...if I'm being fully honest, I was put up to this" He leaned closer and whispered in your ear, the honesty caused you to gasp but then you realized that you needed to be secretive as he whispered it to you.
"Oh...but why?" You whispered back, slightly concerned. Your gaze drifted back to the shorter man standing on the other side of him and you caught him staring back at you.
"Well uh...I may or may not have a crush on my cousin, Lucy. So they uh...thought this would help me get over it. Namely her father, the Overseer" Turning back to Chet, you just stared at him as that was...unexpected, to say the least. Clearing your throat from how awkward it got. you didn't feel bad about not marrying him anymore. Stealing another glance at the shorter man, you looked back at your arranged husband and he looked back and forth between the man and you.
"Ok- either I'm stupid or do you guys like each other?" You slightly jumped as he was suddenly louder than before, causing a few heads to turn in your direction before facing forward again.
"Chet!" The black haired man scolded him and hit his shoulder, causing Chet to say "ow".
"This is Norm, he's my cousin and Lucy's younger brother" Chet smiled as he introduced the man who you fell for far too quickly, you awkwardly smiled at him and he did the same back.
"Hi Norm, nice to uh...meet you"
"Nice to meet you too..."
"What's going on?" A girl with long, dark hair whispered from the other side of Norm, curious of what you were all discussing.
"Nothing, Lucy!" Chet and Norm both yelled in hush. So that's Lucy... After that- you made small talk about some things from your lives and before you knew it, you were on the small stage ready to say your vows, looking at him and he was looking back. But you both knew that this wasn't going to work out in the slightest. Staring into the crowd mixed with his family and yours- you found Norm looking back at you. His expression seemed...pained, almost. Did you both genuinely fall for each other while you're marrying another man? Like sure he was really cute...but you just felt drawn to him in a way Chet wasn't.
"Do you?" The sound of the officiate shook you from your thoughts as you looked back, humming to have him repeat it.
"Do you take him to be your lawfully wedded husband?" You stuttered as you stared at Chet, he looked as equally as worried about this, not wanting to go through with it. So you said the first thing you thought.
"No"

So this woman asked reddit if she was in the wrong for joking about her husband in front of their colleagues after he refused to socialize.
She started out mentioning that she received a promotion at work to a more senior position than what her husband has. She said that while he was happy for her, she thinks he's embarrassed that she's his superior now.
They went to a work related social event (Ā It was supposed to be an opportunity to build team cohesion and that sort of thing.) . The husband didn't really want to go, said he had a migraine and she added that he's pretty introverted. She told him that it would be weird if he didn't go, that people would think he's jealous of her, and after some time, she was able to convince him to go. She said he greeted a few people but mostly sat in the corner and only talked to a few people at a time.
She said she was in a large group when someone, who had not yet seen my husband there, asked where he was and jokingly asked if he was as serious and mysterious at home as he was at work.
I told them he was the complete opposite at home. I said that while at work he seems organized, at home heās a bit of a slob. I joked about how he always leaves his laundry all over the floor and I mentioned things like how he complains too much about random trivial things like the neighbors' kids sometimes playing on our lawn.
I also mentioned how he has a fear of heights and how he was shaking the entire time when we crossed a rope bridge during our honeymoon. I did say a few other things like how I sometimes feel like Iām his parent.
Everyone was interested and surprised to hear all of this, and we did share many laughs together. At some point, my husband walked into the conversation and quickly pieced together what we were talking about. The rest of the conversation was awkward after that.
On the drive home, my husband was not speaking. When I asked him if everything was alright, he said that I surprised him. I was annoyed by him being vague, so I told him that I knew that he wasnāt feeling 100%, but that he was acting childish for not socializing and acting offended.
He said that it was childish and rude that I was sharing his personal details with our colleagues. I then told him that he was blowing things out of proportion, but he didnāt respond, and the rest of the ride was silent.
When we got home, we argued again about the night's events. My husband said my behavior was appalling and that he questioned if I had any respect for him. I was angry by his outburst so I told him that he was only being sensitive because I was technically his superior now and that what was really bothering him. The argument ended there, as my husband didn't want to "waste any more time" and went to bed.
This morning, I texted my younger sister what happened, and she accused me of being insensitive.
So it was pretty unanimous that she was in the wrong. I definitely agree with that verdict. There's a lot to unpack here so let's go:
The first red flag that stands out to me is her manipulating him into going to the social event. I don't know if that's something that would look bad on him if he didn't go, not because of her reasoning but because it's just something you should do for whatever type of work they're in. But even if he had to go, I would think a migraine is enough to stay behind. I've never experienced one myself but I hear they're brutal. And then for her to insist that he go out sounds kinda cruel. Why put him in a position for it to possibly worsen?
The fact that she told him he had to go or it would make people think that he's jealous of her made me question the validity of her assumption that he's jealous of her. A lot of people in the comments didn't believe that either, with some speculating that she just feels a sense of superiority over him. Why else is that your thought? And then you have her reasoning that he was only upset because of her position and not because she humiliated him in front of co-workers.
But even before we get to that part, she was upset with him for not socializing the way she wanted him to. He only talked to a few people at a time, staying in a corner on his own. But again, he did have a migraine so he probably didn't want to be where there was a bunch of noise (i.e. in a group with people talking). But according to her he's also pretty introverted. It's no surprise he's not gonna be up for all that.
She even downplays what she did by calling it joking. But that is not what it was. This wasn't playful, it feels like she was trying to get even with him. She completely put him down, belittled and embarrassed him in front of co-workers. It would be bad enough if she did that in front of friends and family, but this could affect the dynamic between him and those other people.
And there's no way to soften it. She disrespected him by airing out all those things. You don't just tell people your partner's fears and bad habits to make jokes at their expense. What she did, you can't take back. Especially not with "I'm just joking!"
It's also extremely unprofessional. She's showing her colleagues that she's not the kind of person who should bein that position. I mean, if she publicly humiliates someone under her, someone she's married to, then what would she do to someone else? That's what other people are likely to question.
She did respond to a few people, but I wanted to specifically highlight this one:
This was in response to someone who didn't believe OP's claim that her husband was jealous at all.
This kind of floors me. She's assuming and interpreting all this instead of just having a conversation with her husband before everything blew up.
There was also this comment from someone who was on her side:
First of all, people would think something of it. They'd be all over it, saying he's toxic and abusive and that his wife should leave him ASAP. Regardless of what she feels, it doesn't give her the right to talk crap about him like that. It doesn't give anyone the right. He's not weak for being upset at her for talking about things that should have been kept private. Anyone in his place would understandably be upset. You don't treat your spouse the way OP did. It doesn't matter if they have bad habits like the laundry thing or not. You speak about that stuff at home and not a social event.

Ren Faire (Eddie/Steve)
Summary: Steve, Eddie, and Robin go to a Renaissance Fair and see some interesting demonstrations. (This fic is for my lovely friend @gigglyrambles!! I literally just pulled this whole plot out of my ass and wrote it in one sitting, so I really hope you like it, LOL. Also, shoutout to @wordstrings because I know she has written something similar for Our Flag Means Death, I hope you don't mind me taking inspiration!!)
Steve isnāt sure how he ended up being dragged along to a Renaissance Fair with none other than Robin and Eddie, but he found it hard to say no to either of their puppy dog eyes and incessant begging.
His outfit is simple, consisting of a white, long-sleeved shirt with laces at the neckline, tight brown pants, and brown boots. He feels only a little bit ridiculous, but after seeing what his friends are wearing, he supposes he isnāt the weirdest looking one.
Eddie is decked out in black, an intricately detailed top with ruffles and buttons. A fake sword sits in a holder on his waist. Robin has gone for a more masculine look, a cloak over her shoulders and a bow and arrow in her hand.
āScrew historical accuracy,ā sheād said.
āThe fact that youāre a girl isnāt the problem, itās that you couldnāt hit a moving target with an arrow to save your life,ā Eddie had teased, and Robin had elbowed him in the ribs, making Steve laugh.
Now that theyāve arrived, Steve has relaxed a bit. He used to feel out of place whenever he attended events that he wouldnāt have been caught dead at in high school. Corroded Coffin concerts, DnD campaigns, and that one time he drove Eddie and Robin to the nearest gay bar in Indiana. It had definitely been more awkward sober, and before he realized that heās bisexual, and could have totally had more fun if heād been aware of and okay with that information at the time.
Heās sort of glad he wasnāt, though, because kissing Eddie Munson during a childish game of truth or dare was a much funnier way to have your queer awakening, and dating Eddie Munson is way more fun than hooking up with random guys in a bar.
āThey have really good beer here,ā Eddie comments, to which Steve holds up his car keys and jingles them. No medieval mead is going to keep him from being the designated driver.
āI can drive us home,ā Robin says, absolutely joking, but Steve still gives her a horrified look and makes a show of sliding his keys back into his pocket, patting the denim for safe keeping. She sticks her tongue out at him, and he flicks her cheek.
Eddie does end up getting some beer, and Steve allows himself a few sips. Theyāll be here for at least a few hours, heāll surely sober up by then. He also samples the gigantic turkey leg that Eddie gets, and Robin wrinkles her nose in disgust at the messy nature of the food.
As they walk around, Steve finds himself getting into the spirit more than he had expected. They eat, watch musical performances, and shop at the little stalls set up by various vendors. Eddie buys a few rings for himself, and buys a handmade mug for Uncle Wayne. Robin indulges in candles and soaps, and even dares to see a fortune teller.
āShe said that Iāll meet my future husband soon,ā she says, giggling. āClearly sheās a fraud, or sheād know Iām not interested.ā
When Robin runs off to find a bathroom, somehow, Eddie and Steve end up standing around a demonstration about medieval punishments and torture, which Steve expects to be gruesome, and quickly finds he would rather hear gritty, gorey details than stand her and watch this happen.
A pretty girl, probably around their age, is locked into a pair of wooden stocks, andā
āYouāve gotta be kidding me,ā Steve mutters, pinching the bridge of his nose between his fingers.
Eddie looks absolutely delighted as he leans in close. āWhatās wrong, Stevie? The demonstration isnāt bothering you, is it?ā he asks. His cheeks are flushed, too. A few months ago, Eddie would probably be the one stuttering and staring at the ground right now, but ever since he introduced this little world to Steve, heās gained a confidence about it that only comes out when he gets to tease Steve into oblivion.
āShut up.ā
āYou shut up, Iām trying to watch. Maybe I can get some pointers from these guys.ā
āThese guysā refers to the two men who have started tickling the girlās trapped feet, and frantic giggles fill the air and make Steveās stomach flip.
āOh, sheās handling this better than you would,ā Eddie continues to tease. āIād already be called every insult under the sun if you couldnāt kick me instead.ā
āI will kick you right now,ā Steve threatens. Itās a complete lie. Heās frozen to the spot on the grass, torn between watching and focusing on the grass. Everyone else in the crowd is behaving like this is so normal, no big deal, just a silly show.
One of the men has moved behind the girl to tickle her ribs, her arms secured above her head. Steve crosses his arms over his chest, subconsciously protecting his own sensitive spots, like just watching her could tickle him, too.
āYou love that spot,ā Eddie coos. āYou make the cutest sounds when I tickle you there.ā
āIām gonna fuckinā kill you,ā Steve grits out.
āSure you will, sweetheart. Can it wait ātil after Iāve made you cry real pretty for me?ā
Just then, Robin appears at his side. āThis looks like my worst nightmare,ā she says. āI hope this girl is getting paid well.ā
Steve makes a noise of agreement, but canāt bring himself to look over. Eddie Munson is going to be the fucking death of him. Thankfully, Robin is immediately bored of the display and drags them off to explore. Eddie subtly gives Steveās side a quick pinch as he walks past him, and Steve suddenly canāt wait to go home.
***
āYou are a fucking menace,ā Steve accuses the moment theyāve made it through the door.
His parents arenāt home, Robin was dropped off back at her house, and now, Steve is alone with Eddie for the first time all day, and he refuses to voice how excited he is for whatever Eddieās got planned.
But Eddie just grins, tugging off the more elaborate pieces of his costume, leaving himself in socks, boxers, and a white t-shirt. He makes his way to the kitchen, comes back with two cans of beer, sits on the couch like he isnāt ignoring the clear tension in the room.
Steve gapes at him for a minute before joining him on the couch, kicking off his boots and taking a beer as well. Maybe Eddieās changed his mindā¦Maybe he just isnāt the mood, and Steve isnāt going to pressure him into anything.
Butā¦Well, he has a sneaking suspicion that isnāt the case at all.
āIf youāre waiting for me to ask, itās not gonna happen,ā he says.
āAsk for what?ā Eddie tilts his head curiously, but thereās a glint in his eye that proves Steveās theory.
āNothing,ā Steve replies, playing along. āAll that talk back there just made me think you had a plan for when we got home. But if youāre not interested, thatās fine too.ā
āDid you want me to have a plan?ā
Steve huffs. āMaybe. But if you donāt, then letās forget about it.ā
āOh, cāmon baby,ā Eddie says, throwing an arm around Steveās shoulders and pulling him close. āAll youāve gotta do is ask if you want it so bad.ā
His cheeks burn. Stubborn as ever, he shakes his head.
Eddie sighs with exaggerated disappointment. āIf you insist. I guess Iāll just keep my hands to myself tonightā¦ā
āGood,ā Steve says, and turns the television on.
It takes two beers and a stupid scene in a film to break him. Itās a quick, barely there tickle, but the characterās laugh makes Steve perk up like a dog hearing a doorbell ring.
āFine,ā he says.
āWhatās fine?ā Eddie asks.
āJust fucking tickle me, you dick.ā
Eddie grins and wastes no time, lunging across the couch and pinning Steve to the cushions.
āI knew youād crack eventually, sweetheart,ā he teases. āSorry we donāt have quite the same set up, but Iāll hold you down real nice, okay?ā
Steve is already grinning. He canāt help it, heās so lovestruck by his boyfriend and desperate to laugh his head off. And laugh he does when Eddie goes straight for his ribs, scratching at the dips between each little bone.
āThereās that pretty sound,ā he says, pressing a kiss to Steveās jaw that is both sweet and ticklish under the current circumstance.
The stupid shirt with the laces is pulled over his head and discarded on the floor, and Eddie pins Steveās wrists and tells him to stay still before exploring each ticklish spot on his torso, making him shriek and cackle and snort like a fool.
He doesnāt stay still for very long, arms shooting down to his sides when Eddie attacks his belly with blunt fingernails, and Eddie scolds him but doesnāt stop.
As he squirms on the couch, giggling like mad, he wonders if they sell some of those bondage contraptions there. He thinks that they should go back to the Ren Faire sometime.Ā

Do you have any āØspicyāØ headcanons for the Wizard/Magnus with a male farmer? (It doesnāt have to be anything TOO spicy, but I saw the Isaac/Lance/Farmer you just posted so I HAD to ask)
Absolutely love your stuff, by the way! I could spend hours reading through your blog š„°š
One smut Magnus/Farmer headcanons to the dear anon! š
You know, I'm still not sure about my nsfw headcanons, and I don't know if I'll continue to write in the same format. But you won't know until you write, and so far I'm quite enjoying writing this sort of thing as well. But yeah, enjoy, and thanks for the ask! š
_________________________________________
Some random smut Magnus/male!Farmer headcanons:
ā ļø Warning: NSFW
Honestly, in the beginning Rasmodius behaved very carefully and cautiously with Farmer during sex, which made him a bit ashamed. He, an experienced wizard already at quite a respectable age, wrinkled and worried as if it was the first time he was doing it. It was just that he had not had many partners in his experience (and only with women, Magnus had no male partners), and he didn't want to hurt Farmer. After a while, when old wizard had gained confidence, he not only began to feel comfortable, but also to suggest to Farmer a couple of fantasies he might like.
Magnus had to admit: sometimes the members of the Ministry of Magic held meetings so meticulous, pointless, and boring that he envied Camilla and her nerve to walk out of event without remorse. Oh well, at least now he had a way to distract himself with something else. Like dreaming about what he'd do to Farmer in bed when he finally got back to Stardew Valley. So many opportunities to have a wild night and relax, to hear Farmer's moaning in pleasure and him screaming wizard's name over and over again... Magnus wouldn't dream much, though, for it would be rather awkward to cover protruding boner under his robe.
Spanking is probably one of Magnus' favorite practices. And the old wizard favors the role of a dominant more than a subordinate. His bloved Farmer tease Rasmodius in front of his colleagues again, or start using magic where he shouldn't, giving his wizard partner/husband a headache because of the Ministry of Magic? Expect a "lesson in good manners" this night. Though the two of them love spankings, Magnus does have a heavy hand after all, so Farmer's ass won't be looking for an adventure for another two or three weeks for sure. Or maybe Farmer will, hee hee...
DID SOMEONE SAY FROTTING- *Bonk*
No, don't even ask him for a degrading kink. He's not going to do it, and Farmer's puppy eyes aren't going to help him talk Magnus into it. It's just... Humiliating and insulting and disrespect your favorite person like that... It's so wrong, it's beyond Magnus' comprehension. Yeah, he understands that Farmer might like it, but he- Magnus can't even say the word "whore" to him. Some thrills he's willing to accept, but not this. Sorry, but no.
Not to say that Magnus is against magic and spells in sex, but usually his arsenal includes only things to be used after lovemaking. Healing spells for scratches, restorative potions, that sort of thing - just about everything you need for aftercare. Though there was one book in his library with some very, *ahem*, interesting spells for variety in bed (that headcanon with the soundproofing spell). He wouldn't mind exploring something interesting with his partner. Within reason, of course, and nothing dangerous or out of bounds.

am I the asshole for sort of accidentally ruining someone's wedding and kind of dooming their marriage?
I know that sounds really really bad but please bear with me because I really didn't mean for this to happen and I still just feel really confused about the part I played in all this and don't know if I'm an asshole for it.
I (23f) used to date this guy in college on and off, over the course of several months. He dropped me out of the blue one day and I saw later on social media he was engaged to a girl we both knew. I'm still unclear if she was aware that he and I were in a situationship deal while he was also, I guess, dating her and playing serious. I just figured okay icky but whatever, we won't be speaking again.
Then I get a wedding invitation. I figured it had to be a mistake, no way she'd want me there so I called her (she'd been my RA at one point so I still had her number saved). She said no, no mistake I was legitimately invited because we'd sorta been close during that year she was my RA and she was so nice over the phone idk I felt bad for wanting to say no so I said yes, I'd be there and also sent the rsvp back. I know I should've said something like hey I used to mess around with your soon to be husband I don't think I should be there especially if you didn't know about that but I just didn't say anything about it.
I continued to feel weird about it up until the day of the wedding. The reception was lovely if a little awkward mostly because I felt so awkward, but nearly two hours went by and I started hearing in chatter that they couldn't find the groom. People in the wedding party were really starting to freak out thinking he just straight up left.
They eventually found him, he locked himself in a room at the hotel where the reception was being held. Eventually someone comes to me saying I need to go talk to him because he only wants to speak to me. I just truly wanted to die and get swallowed up by the ground but I said fine I'll go talk to him and see if I can convince him to come out.
We talk, he says he can't go through with it because he's been staring at me the entire time and not even thinking about the bride to be literally on the other side of the door listening to us. I got a little heated telling him that he's really hurting her and it's extra shitty because that wasn't just about him it's about her too, hes the one who proposed to her, planned a wedding with her, ect. I said call it off if you want but you and I aren't getting back together and you need to go out there either way and talk to her.
After that he came out, idk what was discussed exactly with her or the wedding party but eventually they said the ceremony will go through as planned. I couldn't get out of there fast enough, I felt so horrible that I'd probably ruined this girl's dream day and I should've turned down the invitation and been straight up with her.
I tried to forget about it then three months later he hits me up on a blank burner account on facebook explaining it was him and asking me for nude pictures. I screenshot the messages, did not respond, and sent them to his wife. They both blocked me on everything after that but I heard from a mutual friend that she'd filed for divorce, they hadn't even been married for three full months.
It's not solely because of me that they got divorced, apparently there was a whole slew of girls he'd been messaging and he never really stopped messing around behind her back but I feel like if I'd just said something right away during that initial call maybe she wouldn't have gone through with it and wouldn't have been put in that position as the wife who got cheated on.
What are these acronyms?

A letter always seemed to me like immortality
Everyone Diana wanted to write to was dead.
Walter, what seemed like a dozen lifetimes ago, at Courcelette if his last letter to Rilla was to be believed; Diana had often wondered whether he had already considered himself a dead man walking before the day of the last battle, the boy heād been destroyed beyond repair or rebirth.
Aunt Leslie, whom sheād found it easier to talk to than her own mother, perhaps because sheād also had a brother she adored. Perhaps because sheād left Glen St. Mary and never missed it.Ā
Perhaps because Leslie liked whiskey better than tea, newspapers better than poetry.Ā
Una, whoād been too pale since she barely survived nursing her father and stepmother through the Spanish flu, whoād been someone everyone underestimated or decided to treat as a martyr, who would not have judged Di the way her own sisters would.Ā
Rosalind Foyle, whom sheād had to ask about as discreetly as she could, counting on her general reception as a cheerful and polite Canadian, not much like a bossy Yank, to yield her the few details sheād squirreled away. An artist, a mother. A beauty. Better-bred than her husband, well-liked, sheād had elegant hands and never forgot to wear gloves.
Diana only wore gloves to operate and if an actual gale was blowing in a blizzard.
Who had thought all she wanted was to go to France, to make something of her life that would last her the rest of it. That might make the rest of it of a duration she could bear, an end her family could cope with or justify why sheād never return to PEI.
Dear Una, Youāre the best one to write to, I think. The one whoād mind the least, like it the most. The least awkward for me to imagine reading this, the least likely to tell me something I donāt want to know. I leave for France in a few weeks and now I donāt want to go. Or rather, I do and then I donāt. Thereās something holding me in England now, something to do with Walter, a mystery. Men, whoāve died. A man whoās alive, very much so.
A man I want to know. His name is Foyle. Christopher. He knew Walter, said Walter knew him as Kit. Everyone calls him Foyle or sir or Superintendent. Christopher. Oh Una, I thought this was behind me. That it was something Iād never have to deal with, some sort of consolation of being a woman in a world missing a generation of men. I thought I wouldnāt know this and that was a relief, watching you and Rilla and Nan. Faith. Mary. I thought it was fair, that Iād never know heartbreak like this. And now thereās Christopher. A half-dozen dead men. Walterās poem. And France, waiting for me. I have to go, I know that, but how do I go wanting to stay here, a place I canāt call home. Wanting to come back.
Christopher. I like writing his name because I oughtnāt say it often. Thatās what a young girl does, lovesick, dull, embarrassing herself, making everyone around her smile behind their hands unless itās Miss Cornelia, scolding you for making a fool of yourself and for what, a man? Whatās a man worth, I ask youācanāt you hear her say it, tart, ready to wash her hands of usā I donāt care what a manās worth, Una. Just Christopher. And I canāt answer the question, not to satisfy Miss Cornelia or you or myself.
Youād write me back something comforting, if you could. If you hadnāt died before your time, twice over, after the telegram, after the epidemic. I should have insisted you leave before me or with me. I should have told your father you were worth more than all the rest of them put together or made Dad send you away to convalesce, somewhere warm, where you might have lolled about, turning brown in the sun. Iāve said Iāll go to France and sew up the men who need sewing up. Cut off the parts that need cutting off. Iāve said thatās my life, my vocation, as important as Motherās poetry, as Walterās, as the babies Jem delivers and the columns Ken Ford writes, and it must be but now thereās murder and Christopher to contend with, a dozen mysteries at the heart of me. For it seems Iāve a heart after all, Una. It beats and beats and leaps when it oughtnāt. It will break, I know it shall.
Christopher. Iāll take a dream in lieu of a letter. A flower, out of place, in lieu of a word. Answer me if you can, Una. You canāt and I know that, but Iāll still hope, silly Di Blythe.
She put the letter in an envelope but left it unsealed and unaddressed.
Left the envelope in an otherwise empty drawer of the desk in her flat. If she didnāt return from France, well, that didnāt bear thinking about too closely. If her papers were sent back to Canada, her father would likely burn the letter rather than let her mother see it unless if gave it to Nan, thinking her twin would derive some comfort and, happily married to Jerry, the bonny wife and mother Di had not made of herself, could weather any pang it gave her.
If somehow it ended up with Christopher, heād know how sheād once felt.
She could make that happen, writing his name across the white field of the envelope, but that was too much like a dare, and for all she was her fatherās daughter, she still had her motherās wise fear of the fey.
Sheād written his name enough. Sheād hope sheād come back to say it.

I think I'll just have to shit post after every episode I watch. It's only two now:(
Oskar: So how's it going?
Hausmann: What?
Oskar: How are you?
Hausmann: *stutters confused*
Oskar: How's your wife?
Hausmann: Uh, I'm not married, sir.
I generally had to pause here because my mum, my sister and I all burst out laughing at Oskar's complete fail at trying to be friendly and warming up to Hausmann so he can ask him a favour. I know the feeling, I'm also not good at being sociable, Oskar. Better luck next time. (Although I do generally rather keep quiet than embarrass myself.)
And Max's parents are actually quite adorable. All caring and protective. Don't cause trouble, be good. Then they leave and Max and Leah take a great sigh of relief.
And Leah is a complete icon. She is really really cool. Sassy, sarcastic - amazing:) Keep your little brother out of trouble. He's the one that still acts like he's 12.
"No, I wouldn't think it at all awkward that there's a thing between my sister and my professor. No problem at all. Happens all the time."
All of Oskar's interactions with the pick pocket guy were funny too. The first time, he's with Theresa and is suddenly embarrassed that he was so harsh and even straightens his coat. Oh, you stole my wallet and were going to run off with it, but my girlfriend is stood there so I'll just take it back and adjust your coat because I pulled you up by the collar and was going to charge you. But yknow. My girlfriend. :)
And the second time, Oskar's reaction to being suddenly grabbed by the shoulder is to exclaim, but sort of casually: What the hell? (But in an Austrian accent, naturally. (Which gives me flashbacks to Yonderland hehe))
The pick pocket: I have information of a crime
Oskar: *after a few tries of being convinced* Don't waste my time
It's not that simple. It's never that simple. Don't you know you're in a crime drama?! It's going to come back and bite you in the arse whatever you do.
And the American senator. He was- erm. An interesting character. He was clever. When Oskar was in his office(?) after he'd been attacked.
Senator: I was in my rooms all the time. I have someone that can vouch for me.
*his butler or assistant (or whoever he was) walks in*
Oskar: *stares for a solid 2 minutes trying to comprehend the gay thoughts running through his mind with his shirt half unbuttoned and a streak of blood still coming from his nose*
Broski lost some braincells when he got struck with the truncheon. You could see the cogs in his brain whirring like: You- and- and him? You're a thing? That's- *mind drifts to someone else*
Also notice how when Max got punched in the face(s2 ep1), Oskar asked what happened and Max felt obliged to tell him, but when Max asked, Oskar simply waved it away and that was that.
May I also mention that Oskar has a nose made of steel or something? For example in season 1, episode 1 where Otto Braun slammed the door in his face and the soldier guy (season 1 episode 2) where the soldier hit Oskar on the back of the head and he fell straight over onto his face on a cobbled street and went out cold for a good 12 hours? And then season 3 episode 3 when the stalking guy hits Oskar with a truncheon straight across the face (you can see the marks after) and on the back of the head. Again he falls onto a cobbled street.. Oskar sure has a thick skull. Meant in the kindest way possible:)
There were soooo many people lurking around in that episode too. Hausmann, the guy stalking the senator, Oskar. They're all hiding in shadows, watching, following, breaking into awkward jogs if you're Oskar..
Don't get me started on Theresa. I know people don't ship them on here. Or maybe they do and nobody's said anything? Anyway I think that they're an adorable couple and Oskar really did seem to like her and they were getting along fine. She made him cake and "by the sweetness.. *smirks* I'd say she's head over heels in love with you"
Then she goes and has a husband.. I mean Hannah though. She was really cute. And she liked Oskar too.
"Oskar!" *slaps a puddle with a stick* "Oskar!" He kind of waves that wave that all Austrian people do to children.
And Ida. Comes down the stairs, Max kisses her hand, yknow the formalities. Max introduces her to Oskar who simply takes her hand and shakes it, "Pleased to meet you." She looks a little... offended? But then, "I didn't know you had such handsome friends." Right in front of Oskar's girlfriend. Max is just like "Yeah I was starting to think the same"
Is it me or is all that Van BĆ¼low does is drink tea or whisky while trying and failing to be the one in charge. Simply because Oskar slays. And could probably do the job better, but that would mean he would be the one sitting around on his arse all day and frankly BĆ¼low does it better. He can talk about getting his 'Allerwertesten' ( is German for arse. I watched an episode in German on YouTube and basically BĆ¼low used the German way of saying 'get your arse into gear') moving.
Have I gone insane? Maybe. Could I write twenty more 1000 word long essays about Vienna Blood and the interaction between characters. Probably. And another twenty more.
But this will do for now;)
Do I like Vienna Blood? Worse:) I am obsessed. In the best way possible.
#vienna blood#oskar rheinhardt#max liebermann#leah liebermann#theresa thanhofer#hannah thanhofer#van bĆ¼low#haussmann#underrated character#and I think he looks like a Josef#for some reason#shadowcats rambles#at 20 to 1 in the morning#:))

I have one minute left of Monday as of writing this intro, but I have not had a Momcon Monday in ages (which is criminal) and "what if the Kamisato father still died but Kamisato Mama never died" thoughts have parasitically wormed their way into my brain and taken hold, therefore I cannot be held legally responsible for the degeneracy of this post.
After what I learned in a Japanese history class I took in college, I imagine Inazuma to have a similarly very incestuous history >:) Also obvious canon divergence, this kinda ignores the canon Kayo
-----------------------------
For any Inazuman family, the firstborn son is the pride of the household. It's sort of a traditional value, that great attention, care, and importance is placed on said firstborn son. While this may be very beneficial in some ways (other children in Inazuman families often resent their firstborn brother, feeling he gets more attention and priority than them), this advantage is greatly counterbalanced by the sheer amount of stress, responsibility, and expectations placed on the son.
Having only two children is an abnormality, as noble families tend to be fairly large (albeit smaller than they were in some eras of the past). And only one son, even rarer. It places the utmost stress on your son, to an extent you feel a bit of guilt -- perhaps you should have had another boy just to alleviate some of his burdens?
Regardless, you try to be there in the ways he needs you to be, to be a source of comfort and a shoulder to lean on. That, too, would be perhaps a bit frowned upon in Inazuman nobility culture... it tends to be a rather uptight and strict culture on such things, and Teyvatan nobility in particular often encourages pushing children to their limits, hardening them, but you can't bring yourself to be too harsh. People still tell you not to make him turn out to be weak or soft.
Even so, that turns out to not be the case at all.Ā As Ayato grows, he is no exception to the standard ā capable in every matter, intelligent, strong, skilled in combat and wit alike. You couldn't be more proud. You make sure to tell him so, and everyone you know, for that matter. People frequently say similar things to you, I wish my kids were that well-behaved, if only my son cared about his studies like yours... on and on it goes, and in truth, it does make you feel that much more proud. He's wonderful in his behavior towards you as well, always so pleasant and thoughtful, going out of his way to check on you, get gifts for you, include you in his life. He even speaks highly of you to others, especially when praised -- ah, but I would never have done so well without my mother there to encourage me.
But life can drastically change overnight, and it does.
Death, particularly of the head of a household, is a particularly volatile, uneasy time. Heās incredibly stoic throughout, and takes charge of things very quickly. That, too, is something you're quite proud of, how quickly he adapts and takes over, and the efficiency with which he does, far surpassing what would be expected of someone his age.
Things are a bit awkward at first, though, because he replaces the role of your husband, while you remain in the same role as always, right beside the head of the house, which is now him. It just feels a bit strange, looking to him as and having many of the same partnered functions as you once did to your husband. For example, you are expected to remain side-by-side for all important affairs and meetings being held at the estate.
You don't contribute very much, merely supposed to sit there quiet and demure unless addressed or during the more casual socialization that occurs after important affairs are dealt with, but it would be socially embarrassing for someone of his status to appear in front of guests alone, as having either a wife or other matriarch of the household present is the expected standard. Still, although you know it's your responsibility, it just feels... strange.
Soon, however, it starts to feel something different entirely, due to your son's unexpected behaviors - humiliating.
It catches you off-guard, at first. You would never expect it from him, who has always praised you, held you in some degree of reverence and respect, always done as you asked.
It quickly seems to change, though. As he begins to take his father's place in dealing with other significant figures in local politics, he talks about you in front of others in a way that makes you feel degraded, as if you were an animal incapable of understanding he's even talking about you. You voice concern over what seems to be a disadvantageous decision being made with a major political power, trying to interject in a way that is as appropriately as you can manage, seeing as you're not supposed to talk much, but you can't let it go unaddressed... but your son just waves his hand dismissively, smiling.
Ah, you'll have to forgive my mother. She has a tendency to upset herself over trivial matters. He finishes with a chuckle, rests his hand on the top of your head for a moment.
He also gives you subtle warnings and guidances regarding your own words. The custom in your culture is for you and your guests to sit on opposite sides of a table low to the floor, with the head of the household -- now your son -- and the matriarch of the household (that's you, and would be your daughter if you were to pass) sits right beside him. This is an opportune way for him to be sure you don't say anything he would prefer you not to. You'll just be talking as usual, when you get a sudden firm squeeze to your thigh. Telling you that, for whatever reason, whatever you were saying has been deemed not acceptable, or perhaps that you simply are talking too much when your role is more to sit there and smile.
You give your son the benefit of the doubt. You rationalize it. He's young and all of this is so new to him, he probably wants to prove himself and take initiative over the social atmosphere, and would feel embarrassed if you were to to guide the meetings... he wants to feel capable and in charge. You taking over would be belittling to him, he would feel like you're treating him like a child, and you can understand that. That's a good thing that he's being so responsible, isn't it?
Besides, it's not like his behaviors towards you outside of the meetings have changed... until they do, in fact, begin to.
It starts with you taking a deviation in your routine. Not that that in and of itself is a big deal; there's nothing dictating that you have to follow a certain routine or anything like that. You don't have many responsibilities, as your son takes care of business and management affairs, your job is primarily to be present when needed, and ensure the household is being kept in order.
Therefore, you get a great deal of lounging time. One day, you simply felt like reclining to read for leisure in a different spot than usual, opting to sit in the estate's study rather than the foyer. Something done without any consideration to the matter, not thinking it anything that could possibly cause an issue in any way.
You jolt when the door harshly opens, barging through with urgency. Your son sighs when he sees you, shoulders falling as tension leaves his body. You think something to be the matter, that he must have something upsetting him -- is something wrong, sweetheart?
But instead of answering you with some other matter, his eyes narrow.
I have been searching for you for nearly half an hour. You would do well to not worry me by disappearing so.
There's a frustration in his voice you're unaccustomed to, an authority in his tone he has never used towards you. It catches you off-guard, your eyes widen.
O-oh, I... I didn't mean to...
In the end, you reassure him you will not repeat this variation in your usual schedule, at least not without informing house staff so that they can inform him when needed. He didn't seek you out for any reason, though, as it turns out, only coming to check on you.
You suppose you should appreciate these checks, as they continue. The monitoring becomes more and more intense over time. He begins to check on you several times a day, or at least sending a member of the house staff to do so. He requests that you have a consistent schedule, so he doesn't need worry about you.
One day you decide to take some time to yourself, wanting to clear your mind. The family has long had a very peaceful, calming estate grounds pathway to walk on, a natural garden area behind the main building with flowers and greenery and the like, where you often go to walk around in when you have a lot on your mind.
You've done so for years, and it's never been an issue, but you've been so preoccupied that you haven't gotten the chance to do so since your husband's passing... and yet, this time, you're not even gone for twenty minutes before someone comes looking for you.
Oh... him. The housekeeper is such a sweet boy. Always bright-eyed and energetic. And he feels bad for you. You can tell, you can sense it even now as he comes briskly walking up to you, hand held up in a greeting gesture, smiling -- but in that apologetic, sheepish sort smile, furrowed eyebrows conveying a very different message than the upturned corners of his mouth.
Likewise, the choice of words is polite and sweet, and yet, you can hear the unspoken part without needing to hear it.
'Oh, I was just wondering where you were!'
(I was sent to come find you.)
'...has been really worried about you--'
(I'm going to be in trouble if you don't come back.)
'And I was just thinking--'
(He told me to say--)
He keeps this cheery, upbeat sort of tone, but you can feel it's forced. It's just short of audibly hearing what it says on its own: sorry.
And you know exactly why he's the one coming to find you. Sure, part of it is no doubt because he's so sweet and soft, but you know your son's real line of reasoning -- that you wouldn't want to get him in trouble, that you'll feel more empathetic to him than you would towards any regular servant, and thus you'll be more willing to comply from the start. You hate to admit that it works.
Thoma becomes a sort of guardian over you. He's there in the mornings - of course, you have a female servant to dress you for the day, but as soon as you exit your room, he's always there, smiling and bowing his head in greeting, cheerful as always. Polite and respectful, too, always keeping with the formal honorifics and ma'am's and the like, even if you've tried to tell him it's not necessary. He always makes you food and tea in the morning, always accompanies you if you wish to go out (a fairly new pleasure in your life, as your late husband often told you to refrain from doing so, but you figure it can't hurt to visit the city every now and then), often sits with you and your daughter at meals, particularly if your son is too busy with work to do so.
He hovers over you, a constant presence. Ayato even went to the extent of hiring another new servant to help around with the tasks that had usually been under Thoma's responsibility, to give him more time to watch over you. In truth, it's suffocating, but you know he's only following commands, and you tell yourself that you ought to be grateful you have a son who cares for you so deeply.
And thus, your son continues to utilize him to control your own every move.
That is, until a certain incident.
You do get along well with Thoma, really. Who wouldn't? He's a very pleasant boy, easy to hold a conversation with, bright and energetic while also amiable and easygoing. He's content with talking about pretty much anything, goes wherever you want to go, never complains.
And usually, he's very well-prepared, but of course, everyone will make mistakes every now and then. Thus is how the two of you get caught in the rain, returning from a leisure stroll along the road. The poor thing apologizes a hundred times on the way back for neglecting to consider the possibility of rain and failing to bring an umbrella, taking his jacket off to hold over your head the whole time, but the rain is particularly heavy, so much so you both end up soaked anyways.
He frantically runs to fetch towels, still nervously apologizing (even though you told him it's fine each and every time), getting you multiple towels to dry yourself off. He leaves so you can dry your body off and change your clothes, but even after you return to the living area, sitting by the fire at the back-center of the room, he helps you rub a towel over your scalp and shoulders, arms more or less wrapped around you, leaning in, bodies a few inches apart.
It's at that moment Ayato passes by. Not intending to stop, merely walking past seemingly in a hurry, but his eyes flicker over to you two as he passes, and he comes to an abrupt halt. He's quiet for a few moments. He's a composed young man, never the type to show negative emotions too outwardly, but you can make out a distinct look of displeasure on his face, mouth pulled taut and eyes narrowed. After a moment, he questions what happened, in a calm, but cold voice. You're the one to explain before Thoma can say anything, wanting to defend him, thinking your son is upset over you getting caught in the rain, perhaps.
I see.
It's all he says before turning and walking off.
...You don't see Thoma very much anymore after that. Well, you still see him, he's always around doing some task or another, but he doesn't come to visit you anymore, and even when you see him and speak to him, he sort of leans away from you, keeps an arm-length away from you at all times, smiles and speaks in a sheepish mannerism for a few minutes before coincidentally remembering something he's forgotten to do and leaves to go do that. It hurts you a little. You want to say something to Ayato perhaps, but in truth, you're uncertain how to approach him... was he truly that upset over you getting rained on? Or was it something else? You have trouble making sense of it. Regardless, surely he's overreacting.
He seems so uptight lately. You imagine he's under a great deal of stress. He used to be rather lax and easygoing, but these days he seems to be more easily upset. Ayato's "bad moods" are nothing compared to someone of a less pleasant disposition, he merely gets cold and quiet and a bit harsh with his voice and words, but nonetheless, as your child, you know him well enough to know these things indicate he's upset.
He gets into such a mood more and more often, often nitpicking about the things you wear and do, getting unnecessarily upset if you fail to inform him of your activities and location, insisting you stay in the same places at the same times each day for him to come by so he can briefly check on you.
It's unnecessary, and frankly rather obnoxious. But once more, you're unsure of how to bring the matter up. Perhaps he's merely undergoing a strenuous period of time, and will improve once it is over. You hope so.
He assigns more servants to you, first a different female one, then another, and soon you have three, who are constantly following you around, tending to your every need. It's not as if the estate hasn't always had personal servants, but in the past, you merely summoned them when needed, and in truth, you were never the conceited type to have servants do everything, you were more than capable of performing certain tasks for yourself and didn't feel the need to command someone else to do it. But it's never been like this, never so suffocating.
Eventually, it becomes too much.
You need some time to yourself. To appear in public by yourself would be unseemly for your position, but nonetheless, you have to find a way to get some room to breathe... you know he would be furious with you if you were to intentionally avoid contact, to go off into the expanse of nature beyond the estate grounds... but the "what he doesn't know won't hurt him" is a motto you imagine all mothers use at some point when dealing with their children. When the beloved pet was killed by a kick from a horse, so you told the children it ran away. When the country underwent such a financial crisis a decade or so back that even your family had to sell some of their heirlooms to pay for the expenses of the estate, so you told the children they were simply tacky and you no longer wanted them. That sort of thing.
Yes, this would be no different. To leave the estate at night and walk around beyond the grounds for a while, beyond the garden where servants might see you, just to get some time and space to yourself, to clear your mind. You have to wait until night, when your servants are no longer trailing you so closely, but you manage to find an unguarded door to the outside, and slip away undetected.
Almost.
You're just taking the last few steps out the gate when a spear is thrust in front of you, the pole section blocking your path. The exterior guards. They seem high-strung, almost panicked by seeing you out. As soon as they stop you, they tell you to (albeit very politely, prefaced with please, madam, it's not good for you to be out here at this hour) return in side immediately.
You try to reason, and yet, they continue to insist. You give a demand -- Please, this is an order, I am simply going for a walk -- and yet even still, even with such an authoritative statement, they merely shake their heads. They take steps forward, gradually pushing you back inside, until you finally relent, making an exasperated noise before turning on your heel and stomping back inside.
You know your son had to have said something to them. Even your husband never held so much power that the household staff would so immediately and sternly disregard your words.
More importantly, you know they'll tell him. You know he'll be upset.
But you were expecting him to simply address it the next day or so. You didn't think he'd be so angry that he'd come into your room so late. You're pretty sure it's past midnight when you hear heavy, quick footsteps come stomping down your hallway.
Nor does he knock. Your doorknob simply turns, opening the door in one swift motion.
Mother.
If his tone alone didn't convey exactly how unhappy he is, the force with which he shuts the door behind him certainly does.
It feels as if your roles are reversed -- you find yourself shrinking back, stammering, like a child caught doing something wrong. You shift uncomfortably on your bed, watching as he sighs, closes his eyes and pinches at the bridge of his nose in frustration.
Don't you realize how foolish a stunt like that was? And bizarre, too, who tries to go outside at night like that? It has nothing to do with you wanting "time to yourself," as you quickly try to defend yourself with, no, he interrupts you before you can finish. You're merely being spiteful. You're bitter about the matter of him having authority over you and giving you instructions on behaving recently, it feels humiliating to you, and you're acting out in some desperate desire to prove your autonomy to yourself, to validate yourself, or perhaps to even intentionally upset him... how utterly childish.
You'll likely do something to escalate the situation just to make him more upset, like going off into the city on your own, putting yourself at risk. Truly, you are so naive, you have no regard for safety.
This is precisely why he will be moving in.
You blink. You take a moment to process his words.
What?
He exhales in frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose as if it's a very simple, obvious matter that you're dense for not immediately grasping.
As you know, this room belongs to the head of the estate. It's very obviously designed to be so, given it's center position among all the rooms, size of the bed and the room itself and all that. It's sort of inappropriate for him to still be sleeping in his old childhood room.
You still only blink in confusion.
So... you want me to move out?
He huffs in frustration again, but hearing how soft and meek your voice sounds with those words, his own tone softens, though his words are still stern.
Obviously not. As he just said, he's moving in here to keep better eye on you. That's part of the whole point. You will be staying in the same room and bed from this point forward. You shared a bed with his late father most of your life, yes? This should be no trouble, then. Please, have some maturity.
I'm not a child anymore, mother. I have the final say in how this household operates, and it will make things easier on us both if you cooperate.
You're not sure what part of the matter to protest -- the bizarreness of it all, the fact that sleeping with you is something reserved for a child, the invasion of your privacy.
You say you have no intention of doing something worse like he claims, that you were just going to walk around for a short while. And before he can respond, you interject the obvious question -- that's not... that's not normal, don't you realize that?
He just sighs. You're being needlessly difficult. You know I have the utmost affection for you, Mother, and I've tried to be patient with you, but please be reasonable.
Why would you think this odd? You are family, after all, so no amount of closeness should be strange, there should be nothing to be embarrassed about. His tone as he finishes speaking is firm, making it clear that no further opposition is to be voiced. You find yourself wide-eyed and silent, slack-jawed as he proceeds to not leave, but rather, make his way over to the bed, sitting on the side opposite of you. He reaches out, affectionately putting a hand to rest atop your head, trying to soften the mood after being so firm.
His voice is far more gentle as he speaks again. I do worry for you at night, as well. I know being alone now must be difficult for you... I want to be here for you.
You don't protest further. In truth, he's right to an extent, it's not like it's a stranger or someone unrelated, so it doesn't feel all that unnatural. Still, he's grown, it's been ages since you were last like this... but even then, that thought takes you back to the days he would come shuffling down the hall, tearful over a nightmare or frightening shadow, and would nuzzle up to you all night, and that memory makes you feel warm and happy inside.
It's still awkward, of course, and you have trouble falling asleep with him there. At first you try to close your eyes and pretend it's your husband, but... no, that's too painful to think about. You toss and turn for some time. You keep repeating to yourself that it's not a big deal, even if it feels bizarre. Maybe he's actually stressed, and wanted you for comfort, but didn't want to say so...? That is a possibility. Or, even if it's exactly as he said, that's concern for your wellbeing.
Yes... he's just concerned is all. It's odd, but the sentiment is wholesome, in fact, you feel guilty for being defiant considering it was out of concern for you. You even make a note to apologize to him, the following morning, when you wake up beside him. He just smiles, back to his usual gentle, good-humored self. It's alright... you were merely emotional from stress. I understand. The choice of wording feels a bit degrading, but you know he means well.
Thus begins a rather... odd setup. The next day, you find servants moving some of his belongings into your room. They say nothing, they don't look you in the eye, merely go about their task as presumably instructed. You no longer have the servants following you around either. Instead, Ayato insists you merely stay with him. It will be easier for me to keep an eye on you this way. Really, this would have been easier from the start, but I didn't want to upset you...
You're allowed to do as you normally do. Read, entertain yourself in various sedentary ways. In the afternoon, when your high-class lifestyle has you adjusted to taking a short nap, he returns to the room with you, sitting at the desk to continue his own work. Really, you prefer him to the servants, it feels less awkward, but... he's very nosey. Always wanting to know what you're doing, what you're reading. He sets a schedule for you, ensuring you accompany him everywhere as necessary.
But it begins to become more and more intrusive. You try to take a bath, get some time to yourself, but soon he's knocking on the door to tell you that you've had long enough, and need to get out so you can accompany him to yet another meeting. You try to ask if you can go lay down in your room due to headache, and while he allows it, he insists on accompanying you. If even a servant comes to speak to you, he turns his attention to them too, careful to listen to every word, and you are never granted a private conversation with anyone but him.
You notice other oddities, too. You haven't had any guests for you in ages, despite the fact that you used to have friends and distant family on your side of the family visit fairly often. But since your husband's funeral, you haven't gotten any letters, nor any visitors. You can't imagine he would turn guests away, or intercept the estate's mail for things addressed to you... at least, you hope not, yet you can't think of anything else that could explain it.
You do ask, after finally summoning the gall to do so, but as per usual these days, he just sighs and gives you a vague answer. I have the servants sort through everything addressed to us, Mother. Do you really believe they would withhold anything from you? Somehow, it isn't reassuring.
He begins to personally dictate your choices as well, in ways even your husband never did. You find robes already set out for you each morning, what you will wear thus subtly dictated to you ahead of time. You don't see any point in doing so, but... if it makes him happy... you suppose you can oblige. So you tell yourself, among everything else.
He begins to become more touchy as well. He sits closer to you during your meetings, often so your bodies brush against each other. He often rests his hand on your head now, often touches your shoulder to get your attention. At night, he leans forward to kiss your forehead. And when you sleep, you manage to always end up entangled with each other, you always wake up to his arms on you.
It's all so, so suffocating, it becomes unbearable. You just want a moment to yourself, to do anything without being questioned. You find yourself growing tearful as you lay down at night, lamenting your loss, wishing you could have back your life before, where your husband at least gave you room to breathe, and your son was still merely you son, with no authority over you. You know he's trying his best, and you want so badly for him to be confident and capable, but you can't take it.
And while he's still amiable, still pleasant and easygoing on so many things, you learn that he can snap into that firm, harsh tone at a moment's notice. It's intimidating, truthfully, and for that reason, you tend to stay quiet. You would feel guilty for upsetting him, when he already has so much responsibility. Thus, you let the frustration build. You make excuses for him in your mind. You tolerate it all. The emotions bottle up inside.
It's bound to reach a breaking point, and one day, that point finally comes.
Rather, one night. Not that you do anything wrong by any rational standards. You wake up thirsty, in the middle of the night, and naturally, as anyone would do -- as anyone would do, anyone at all, you tell yourself -- you quietly, slowly slip out of his grasp and out of bed, and make your way down the hall in the moonlight coming through the windows, fetch a glass of water, and turn back the way you came.
You run into your son halfway down the hall. Despite visible grogginess, the moment he sees you, his eyes narrow.
What are you doing?
You halt, begin to shrink back. Out of learned instinct, you feel guilt, despite having done nothing wrong, dread that builds in your gut. Over doing something so simple, so harmless. You stutter as you try to say exactly that, but he isn't having it. He speaks calmly, but his voice is deep and firm.
Come back to bed. I have explicitly told you so many times to not wander off on your own, and yet you continue to deliberately disobey... what am I to do with you...?
And with those words, something inside you snaps. The frustration all comes bursting out at once. Your grip on your glass tightens, you stomp the ground harshly, causing even him to raise his eyebrows in surprise at the sudden lack of dignity. There's venom in your voice as you talk back to him.
I've had enough!
The words come out without intending them. You don't even really process what you're saying, just that you're so, so tired, that you're sick of not having space to yourself, that you won't tolerate being disrespected so. That you think it was ridiculous that he would forbid you from taking walks, that he would remove that sweet housekeeper boy from your side, that he insists you accompany him everywhere. Your eyes well up with tears as you speak, you squeeze them shut.
You aren't in control of me! I am not a wife for you to command, I am your--
But he grabs your jaw. You go silent at the harshness of the grip, your heart skips a beat. The now nearly-empty glass goes falling to the ground, rolling as it hits the rug. His expression is cold and dark and furious.
What you are to me is irrelevant. You are under the authority of the head of this household. Do you understand?
Even in his most frustrated moments, you have never heard him speak in such a low, ominous tone, quiet yet piercing. It strikes fear into your core. You can do nothing but stare up at him. A few moments of quiet pass, your eyes wide with shock, staring into his own. Finally, after moments of crushing tension, he lets out a heavy exhale, shaking his head.
...Come, Mother. We're going back to bed.
The grip he takes on your wrist makes it clear you have no choice in that matter. You stumble a bit as you're pulled back into your room, set down onto your bed, turning to light a candle for the slightest bit of light, signifying that he must think you have more to discuss before you sleep again. But before you can lay down, he sits you upright, hands on your shoulders, before sitting down in front of you, not taking his hands off you as he does. You stare in confusion and questioning. He repeats that affectionate gesture, moving a hand to the top of your head, before speaking again.
I understand what is the matter now. Why you're behaving this way.
Your eyes widen further. You can't find your voice. You find yourself leaning back. There's an unsettling feeling in your chest, something like dread, anticipation. You can just barely make out his eyes in the light.
In truth, I refrained for your sake, thinking it would be too soon... but I see now that was a poor judgement. Your needs are going unmet now... I've neglected my own as well, to control myself for you.
His voice is softer as he speaks, then. Still, something about it makes you feel uneasy. Nervous. Your heart pounds in your chest. What?
Slowly, he reaches out. Not to your head, not to your shoulders. His hands firmly come to rest on your waist. Your body stiffens. He leans forward, forehead against your own.
It's too blatant to not understand the atmosphere, the implicit, silent understanding that passes between you without words. It takes you with such shock, you recoil. You scramble backwards on the bed, away from him, looking up to him with terrified eyes. You can't summon your voice, but your expression says what your mouth can't. After a few more moments of quiet, he speaks in a low, soft voice.
...Mother, are you familiar with what was done in our situation, in the old days? At the passing of the head of the household, what would happen in your case?
The question seems completely out of the blue, takes you completely off-guard. Your eyebrows furrow.
Yes, there were traditions for these sorts of things, you knew that much. Traditions that are now no longer observed, that have been lost to time and the changing of social values. In the case of a patriarch's passing, in the Inazuman nobles of old, there was a process that was to be immediately followed thereafter. In those days, the families were huge, having a large number of children. The eldest son took over the estate and all of its affairs, and was to marry if he had not done so already, middle sons would largely proceed as normal. The most notable of old customs, one of a different time and different mindset, that so notoriously earned disgust from present-day individuals looking back, was for the youngest son, who, if the patriarch left behind a widow, was expected to be wed to his own mother.
You have one son. The eldest and the youngest, by definition.
You shake your head. Disbelief renders you stiff. That's... that's from a different time. That's not... you don't do such things now, it's not right... it's vile, it's...
Mother.
That firm tone again. You stiffen once more. You can't help a soft, quiet noise that comes out of your throat. Your body trembles. You jolt as his hands reach out to grab your waist again.
...The attitudes of society come and go, Mother. They change with the times. You needn't concern yourself with that.
His hands pull you back towards him. His hands then reach for your wrists, and pin them together in one hand. He leans forward, other hand on the back of your head to keep you from pulling away as his mouth meets yours. It's only for a few seconds, but in your shock, everything is slow, it seems to pass as an eternity. Eventually, he pulls back, leaning instead to your ear to murmur to you.
It's alright. This will help your frustrations... remind you your place. It is only natural. Try to understand that... forget about everything else but me.
He doesn't listen to you. Words of protest come out of your mouth, but it's as if he doesn't hear you at all. You struggle to speak as he progresses, but your words devolve into shameful, high-pitched sounds as his mouth latches onto your breast, as his fingers trail down your stomach, under your nighttime robes, slip inside of your body. You squeal when your clothes are pulled off. You cry out, you flail, your legs spasm and your breath hitches when you feel him push inside you. Obscene noises spill from your lips until it all goes quiet.
It doesn't feel real. You shiver in place with his arms around you. You stare at the faint light cast on the ceiling. He murmurs soft comforts to you, pulling you close, rubbing a hand up and down your back, but you can't seem to even make the words out.
You don't remember closing your eyes, you merely wake the next morning far later than usual, almost convinced it was a nightmare until the soreness all over your body sets in. Your limbs feel heavy and limp. You slowly turn your head as your son stirs beside you, sitting upright with a quiet groan, leaning forward to kiss your forehead.
Are you sore? I'll have today's schedule adjusted... come, I'll dress you...
As if it's nothing at all, no particularly big deal. You're silent and trembling as you stumble to your feet at his tugging on your arms. You feel hot with embarrassment as his eyes trail over your body, now in full daylight. You stand stiff, still overcome with shock, unable to move more than just the slightest on your own as he pulls your clothing onto your body. He mentions to a servant in passing to get you herbal tea for your aches, not specifying what said aches are from.
And from there, it all falls so perfectly into place. It repeats the next night, the next, and the next. Your protests are quickly silenced with a firm, commanding voice that makes you go quiet, makes your chest swell with fear at the sound. Told that you're being unreasonable, that you're thinking too much about the matter, that you just need to be more open-minded, and you'd realize this is what is best for you. And the next night, and the next night, and the next. Then, during the day, during the time reserved for your afternoon naps. Then, at his desk, pulling you over to sit on his lap, sheathed inside of you as he works, telling you it's beneficial to his progress.
The servants accept it. As time goes on, they seem to slowly figure it out, little by little. You see it in their expressions. For a while their eyebrows furrowed, they looked perplexed whenever he was so close to you, kept his arms around you, whenever they had to come knocking on the door to inform him of something and saw you in there through the crack when he opened it just enough to talk to them. And after some time, their expressions change. The corners of their mouth pull taut.
The trade partners and all the figures of local politics and business that visit your home seem to accept... whatever they believe it all is. It used to be frequent that you would hear them pull him aside, propose an arrangement to marry their wealthy daughters, but he would always politely tell them he plans to put that off for a few more years now. Some acquaintances visiting would likewise ask if he planned to marry soon, and he would give the same answer. They gradually stopped asking. You even overhear two guests once talking to themselves about the matter. He seems content with his mother filling the role of a wife, hah. You clench your jaw and think to yourself that they have no idea.
You're trapped and helpless. Everywhere you turn, there is no solution, no way out. The servants won't help you; even if personally revolted (based on the expressions that sometimes cross their faces, you know they are) they're loyal to their paychecks at the end of the day. They won't let you leave and seek help elsewhere. Everything is locked into place exactly as your son wants it, everything is set up to function as he would have it, with you left unable to do anything about it.
Except for one little problematic piece, one that cannot be fitted into the metaphorical puzzle, yet the image is not complete without its presence, it cannot be removed from the scene altogether, and thus, it creates an obstacle.
Your daughter is a perceptive, intelligent girl. You've always been proud of her, wanted a better and freer life for her than you had. You want to shield her.
It pains you to know that she knows something is wrong. When your son moved into the same room as you, he kept it quiet, but she has noticed, having passed the room several times. She doesn't speak to you much lately, and when she does, it's quiet, she looks at the wall or the ground. Her eyebrows furrow with an expression of confusion and unspoken questioning, but it's only ever so slight, so much so that you know it's only a mild confusion, that she hasn't begun to really understand anything. You want to say something, desperately want to address the silent but unbearable tension, and yet you can't find the words. The tension remains, crushing.
It's the worst-kept secret, anyway, as you know the servants all know something is going on. Even so, it didn't matter if they knew. That wasn't your concern. Above all, you were still hoping to shield it from her. Did everything in your power to appear normal and as if nothing was amiss, just for her. Wanted so desperately to preserve her innocence and happiness, dreading the thought of bringing such a depraved, distressing thing into her life and force her to live in awareness of it. You wanted to spare her that undoubtedly scarring experience. You prayed you could just maintain that alone, that you'd endure anything as long as she could live in ignorant bliss.
One night as you lie in bed on your back, legs slung over your son's shoulders... you hear a sound. Wood against wood, a soft friction, the door sliding. The movement of the bed and wet sounds of his body in yours drowned out any footsteps you might have otherwise heard approaching. Instead, it's just that soft wooden sound... and, as soon as it slid open just the slightest inch, within a split second, it slams shut again.
He stops, equally caught off-guard, head turning towards the door. In the absence of movement between the two of you, you hear hurried, clattering footsteps running back down the hall in the opposite direction. There's a silence that follows as the footsteps grow further and further until they can't be heard.
For once, even your usually composed and collected son seems to lose some composure, eyes wide and face visibly worried. He's never had anything he considered important enough to stop mid-session like this. Even before, when you had company or anything of the sort, he would tell the servants to tell the visitor to hold on just a moment, quickly finish up with you first.
But not now. He pulls out, stands up, throws all his clothes back on in a matter of seconds. I need to talk to her.
Part of you wants to intervene. You want to do something, you don't want him to be the one to say anything to her, are afraid of what he might say, and want to hear whatever he says... and yet, you just lie there. You can't bring yourself to face the crushing shameful feeling, can't bear to look her in the eye. As badly as you want to do something about it, you can't bring yourself to face it, and in avoidance, instead you curl up into yourself, shivering as you grip a pillow to your body, letting tears gather on your eyelids and soak into the fabric.
You never know what he says to her. It takes a long time, though, you know that much. Several hours pass before he finally comes back to bed. He says nothing about the matter himself, only quietly enters the now-dark room, crawls into bed with you (stirring you from having fallen half-asleep), and presses his mouth to yours, resuming your former activities before you can even question anything. You know whatever transpired frustrated him, his grip is intense and his movements are forceful and harsh... but you say nothing. You don't want to ask, you don't want to know.
In the end, though, however it went down, he must have had the final say. Nothing happens to indicate any sort of change. And as for your daughter... she, too, pretends nothing happened, goes about her day as usual. Only now, she speaks more quietly, she won't look you in the eye when she talks to you. It's painful, yet at the same time, you can't bring yourself to bring it up. You're not sure which would hurt more.
You once, accompanying your son, rounded a corner into another room, and caught her talking to Thoma, a hushed but pleading voice, but unable to make out the words. He was a bit louder than her, though, you could clearly make out the replies on his end with each back-and-forth exchange.
I know... I know, I wish I could-- I know. I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do... I don't even know what to--
But both fell quiet as the two of you came into their line of sight. Both visibly stiffening. Coming up with quick excuses to walk off, flashing forced smiles and a greeting gesture as they passed you.
You remember how sick you felt for the rest of the day. You lay in bed for hours, and your son was kind enough to stay by your side... and to even breed you more gently than usual, something he seemed to feel was particularly benevolent of him.
It goes unaddressed. Not a soul in the household doesn't know. But it is never spoken, never brought up. No one reaches out to help you. You know your squeals and protests are loud enough to be heard. You see the way the servants refuse to look you in the eye. You feel the bitter humiliation when some even smirk or snicker as you pass. You can't speak to guests outside of your son's perpetual, hovering presence. It feels like drowning, struggling, all while those around you merely watch.
But nothing is ever done. You suppose that, too, is part of the expectations of nobility, to fulfill one's responsibility without question. Your son has done an excellent job of meeting that standard... hopefully you will learn to as well.

I'm here on the behalf of the "send me a character" ask game and I'm going to cheat by asking for two characters: Hua Cheng and mtp Sherlock Holmes (bc tgcf and mtp are both special interests of mine and I'm always excited remembering you post about both of them)
I love that there are other people who are into both of these series!
Send Me a Character & I'll Tell YouāØļø
Sherlock Holmes (Moriarty the Patriot)
My first impression: tbh he definitely grew on my gradually, I seem to remember watching the anime the first time and every time the focus was on him being like BACK TO WILLIAM BACK TO WILLIAM.
My impression now: I am so fond of him. I think he is sincerely such a lovely adaptation of Conan Doyle's character. He's lively and silly and moody and awkward and smart and caring and I just really like him.
Favorite thing about that character: I feel like he's very...steadfast. He sets his mind to something and just goes for it, stubbornly. Sometimes unhealthily. But I admire it.
Least favorite thing: I do still get a little bored anytime the story is just on him without William. I love him best when he's with his hubby.
Favorite line/scene: obvious pick but THAT whole interaction on the train is one of my favourite scenes in the whole series. "I was just thinking it'd be fun if you were that clever mastermind"????? [parapharasing again] Sherlock that is crazy people talk, what are you on about you kinky weirdo. But also the bridge scene is right up there. And the rooftop.
Favorite interaction that character has with another: extremely hard to pick between Sherliam moments but I think I'm gonna land on the entirety of chapter 67.
A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Hmm. Bond, maybe. I want to see them get really chummy in part two.
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: Sherlock Holmes from the original ACD stories. š¤£ (Again, I'll edit if/when I think of a better answer)
A headcanon about that character: He idolized Mycroft as a little kid but between a mix of teenage cringe-syndrome over hanging out with big bro and the ways he sees their worldviews as diverging, they drifted apart as he got older.
A song that reminds of that character: Sherlock-focused-Sherliam
An unpopular opinion about that character: Idk if this counts, but that he doesn't actually actively dislike women (though he is very gay and not interested in them romantically/sexually) he's just annoyed by the front proper Victorian society makes them put on. Once he actually gets to know a woman, he usually likes them.
Favorite picture: pretttttty
Send Me a Character & I'll Tell YouāØļø
Hua Cheng (Heaven Official's Blessing)
My first impression: I first saw a clip of the scene where he's leading Xie Lian through the bloody forest in the wedding clothes beneath the red umbrella, and I downright swooned over the romance of it all.
My impression now: basically the same. THE romantic character. Like. Literally a character who exists for the sole purpose of loving another. I'm getting sentimental in my old age, because I would have turned my nose up at that idea fifteen years ago, but now I adore it.
Favorite thing about that character: he's just so gentle and careful and thoughtful and loving? But also powerful and dangerous. Knight in shining armour hours. But then to be all of that and also be such a bratty, sometimes teasing and sometimes sulky husband is so funny I love it.
Least favorite thing: Uhhh. Hmm. I get why he's mean to...basically everybody but Xie Lian, because everyone has been cruel to Xie Lian. But in a sort of realistic sense that I don't actually bother to apply to fiction like this, I'd like to see him encourage Xie Lian to have other people in his life. It's fine if he wants to stay mad at Feng Xin and Mu Qing, but he should invite Yushi Huang for tea and encourage Xie Lian to hang out with Yin Yu and so on. It would be good for them both to have other friends. But like. That's me forcing myself to come up with an answer lmao.
Favorite line/scene: any big romantic speech, but also anytime he just absolutely embarrasses himself. "Gege, want to get married?" PFFFT. Loser (I love him.)
Favorite interaction that character has with another: I think the part where he's disguised and Xie Lian is laughing at him and he's pouting, and then "Only after having met you did I rediscover that it's such a simple thing to be happy." Just imagining what that must have done to Hua Cheng's heart makes me so happy.
A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Yushi Huang. They are covert infiltration buddies.
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: Has there ever before been this level of simp? Has anyone else romanced so hard? I'm gonna say maybe Kurogane from TRC, because ( TRC SPOILERS) while Hua Cheng is much softer and more poetic about his love, Kurogane did cut off his own arm to save his beloved, and bond his soul to a vampire who could only feed on him, and definitely seems the type to do what Hua Cheng did in the current donghua arc with refusing to let Xie Lian take blame beyond what he actually had done even when that was what Xie Lian wanted. Those all feel like Hua Cheng levels of dedication.
A headcanon about that character: just absolutely and entirely overwhelmed by actually having sex with Xie Lian the first few times. He cries. He maybe panics a little. He comes too fast. He cries some more. Xie Lian adores him.
A song that reminds of that character: I mean, A Thousand Years is more about Hua Cheng than it's ever been about anyone else ever. But also this.
An unpopular opinion about that character: apparently, in some corners, my belief that the donghua version is very very in character to the novel would be unpopular lol
Favorite picture: all the manhua art is of course utterly gorgeous but...

First post, of course I had to do one of the main protags of this au and the ship that kinda started it all - Silvamy, aka the Rose family! (yes all the kids have amy's last name, more on that later.) Lets get into this sweet yet spicy fam. Silver T. Hedgehog
Age: 42
Occupation (Disaster Relief Specialist/ Timestone Guardian)
Extra Notes - still not fully satisfied with silver's older design, I think its because he's supposed to feel out of place amongst the present day sonic cast to really sell the futuristic aspect, i scrolled through a ton of silver au fanart to get inspo because i was stumped and didn't want to just slap some scruff on him and call it a day, especially since he joined the guardian of powerful gems club with blaze and knuckles (still working on the kinks but basically eggman nega survived his entrapment in the chaotic inferno, found out about the timestones and made little big planet the new holding ground for an infantile infrit, slowly working on "raising" it so he can subjugate the past, present and future and accomplish what his forefathers have always lacked - world domination and an another race against time to save the future ensues.) - Silver is now the guardian of the time stones and got an boost in psychic power and I wanted to give him an indicator similar to knuckle's crescent mark or blaze's forehead gem hence the teal markings. He has pulled an captain america and now safely stays in the past with his wife and kids and works similar to the zone cops of the archie comics but way more powerful and freelance. he also helps out with natural disasters like earthquakes or tsunamis thanks to his upgraded psychic powers. To end on an literal fluffy note, his wife and kids love the extra chest fur.
Amy Rose
Age: 40
Occupation: Event Planner/Fitness Trainer (Part-Time)
Extra Notes - pretty happy with amy's design, wanted to do something different from the long-haired cottagecore amys for sonamy fams, not knocking them - they work well for that dynamic but amy has an trio of very unique kids to parent, an time traveling husband and spends her days dealing with picky customers for all sorts of events and still find time to occasionally teach self-defense class and yoga to young women, she needs to be ready at all times. I wanted to go for an more casual and classic feminine nicole watterson vibe (yes, she is hiding muscles under that sweater dress :P.) - kudos to anyone who can get why she hasĀ
glasses! I think the half-moon ones really suit her!
Zenia Rose
Age: 15 (Born May 23rd)
Powers: Enhanced durability, Enhanced senses, telekinesis, minor chaos energy manipulation, empathetic sensing/linking/inundation, minor telepathyĀ
My precious cinnamon roll! Zenia was the first serious sonic oc I ever made so I wanted to do her justice! She leans alot more towards her father in terms of appearance, power set and personality being a bit of an socially awkward and humble overthinker but she has her motherās big heart and very caring and optimistic outlook on life, her parents nurtured her powers and her emotional capability in equal measures and thus sheās pretty well rounded in expressing and understanding the feelings of herself and others, though she tends to get more overbearing with those sheās close with, all round an very feminine girl next door archetype. As far as design goes, I wanted silverās vibe but amyās coloring and clear fashion influence with a dash of zeniaās more natural and graceful preferences, so pastels, frills and flower motifs were a go. Iām pretty proud of the idea of how to mimic her dads - lets say, āuniqueā quill style but make it more feminine so I took the spines at the back of silvers head and moved them to the front to be curtain-like bangs to always give her an demure look and then enlarged and curled his crown of quills and pushed them back behind an headband to give an bump it style, the rest is an homage to those long haired amy designs I mentioned earlier! She looked a lot like amyās original design when she was an bab. Also her powers are a spring green instead of a teal like her dads because they are weaker and more emotion based. Silver personally made her energy cuffs and couldnāt say no when she asked for an flower design as the insignia.Ā
Auger Rose
Age: 8 (Born October 10th) Powers: Enhanced durability, enhanced senses, tarot card manipulation, minor precognitive ability (boosted when using tarot cards), minor chaos energy manipulation, acrobatics. Auggie! The quintessential middle child and only boy of the family - Augerās family never makes him feel left out which he appreciates but he appreciates his own solitude and doing things at his own pace more. Silver initially worried that his own former solitary ventures in his once ruined timeline or even the powers hes gained from the time stones themselves has re-emergence in his son especially when auger revealed how he getsĀ flashes of the potential future sometimes but eventually amy and silver realizes thats just how their kiddo is, heās not trying to be standoffish or emotionless, he just does and expresses things differently and thats okay, auger knows his family loves him and he shows the same affection in his own subdued way, plus his sisters keeps him on his toes and lets him shine when need be. Augers design is an mesh of forgotten concepts or concept arts of amy and silver, I always wanted to bring back amys tarot card abilities since thats what technically got her into the main cast plus they are an fun way to connect silver and amys dynamics and personal goals into their kid. I ripped off the hair design from my first actual sonic oc - Specs the hedgecat and tweaked it a bit to fit more inline with augerās personality - ie tamed but not stuffy. Augers eyes are perpetually half-lidded for an myriad of reasons and he always has that waist belt with him as it carries his own special deck of tarot cards. Canāt remember how I came up with his fur color, Heās an autumnal baby with his twin sister so I just rolled with that I think.Ā Fun Fact - Auger is a tool with a helical bit for boring holes in wood and is an personal play on the word, Augur which is the ancient roman practice of observing birds to interpret omens! Maple Rose
Age: 8 (Born October 10th) Powers: Enhanced durability, enhanced senses, enhanced strength, piko-piko hammer, acrobatics, spindash, homing attack
The baby of the family, augerās twin sister and probably the reason amy and silver stopped at three kids. Maple is the wild child of the trio and took all of her parents headstrong traits and cranked them up to 11, having a very strong sense of justice and action taking but oftentimes leaping before she looks. The type of child to constantly be sulking in the principal's office because she fought with another kid who was being a jerk, pouting not because sheās sorry but because sheās getting in trouble for something the bully started. An tomboy playground protector if you will with tons of energy to burn and big dreams to fill. Amy wonders semi-fondly if this is adorable karma for always wondering what a child with sonic will be like as her little girl looks up to the blue blur immensely and wants to be the next big hero of her generation. Amy severely regrets the day she let sonic teach maple how to spindash (fun fact - sheās the only one of her siblings who can do it successfully!) and both her and silver are still trying to figure out how to explain their decorated history with sonic without the girl jumping to fantastical conclusions, this coupled with the fact maple carries her mothers legacy of the piko piko hammer and wellā¦knee pads, helmets and bandages are always running out at the rose household with maple playing hero. All in all however, Maple is an loyal friend and while she can be pushy at times, tell her to back off and she will, having two more soft spoken siblings has certainly helped tame her more out there ideas and tendencies. Design wise - maples coloring was to complement her brothers but I headcanon amyās father as being an red hedgehog so took that and mixed it with silvers darker hue to make that maple sap color work and I takes cue from the classic rough and tumble troublemaker kids of old cartoons, tooth knocked out and everything as well as using silvers unique quill shape to have the excuse to emulate maple leaves for her hair, always has some form of bandage or dirt on her no matter how many times her mothers tries to keep her clean.Ā

Thanks for letting me ramble about my Mei family headcanons haha! Iād love to hear your take on it sometime! šā¤ļø
Omg thank you so much!!!
In fact, since you mentioned it, I might as well do so now, so buckle in for the ride!!!
My HC (and this is partially me projecting my own interests on her because haha YES) is that Mei's an only child to her mom and dad.
Her mom's name, Xiu Yinyue Zhou. And actually, since I still remember my design for her, lemme just draw up something rq....
I haven't drawn her in ages, but this is Xiu! She's a relatively wealthy woman who's the director of an orchestra I've named "The Zhou Symphony", and she's good at it as well. A couple other things to know about her, Xiu is very, VERY strict on manners and politeness. She had Mei grow up in a good environment, and they lived comfortable lives, but she ensured Mei was never, EVER spoiled or used her good lifestyle to an advantage. She's very level headed to the point of coming off as cold, both to her advantage and disadvantage.
Xiu's also incredibly hardworking, having been orchestrating since she was in her 30s, and because of this, Mei got to grow up around the symphony and become friends with a lot of the members. She's good with the basics of most instruments and occasionally rents some from other countries/cultures to include them in her music, although she's a particular master with the er hu, piano, and violin.
Also, she's somewhat blind. Xiu has a genetic condition (that I hc Mei to also have) that causes her to grow incredibly sensitive to light as she grew elderly, and while she's not fully blind, she prefers to keep her eyes closed and navigate the world blindly because opening them for more than a minute at a time can be agonizing. The only real time she can see without pain is in pure darkness.
Next, we have Mei's dad. I never officially decided on a design for him, but the basics are glasses, bit of stubble, long hair, wheelchair, no legs below the knee. His name is Huizhong Zhou.
Huizhong, a former climatologist-now-house-husband, is almost the complete opposite from his wife. He's the one who gave Mei her kind and caring nature, and overall is softer spoken and much more shy. He has absolutely no problem letting either his daughter or wife speak up for him, coming off as a relatively quiet, supportive, almost meek man. He doesn't work, but he does enjoy keeping the house organized and clean, also assisting Xiu where he can with her symphony. And while Xiu is who Mei spent the most time with, Huizhong still had a heavy effect on her and is partially why she's also a climatologist today.
As for other family, Mei only knew her grandparents on Huizhong's side. Xiu's family- parents, a sister, and a brother- has cut Xiu off for not fitting into their traditional family structure and wanting to work, especially wanting to work in the music industry of all things, and also having a husband who's shy and meek. Huizhong's parents, who are much more progressive, were the only extended family Mei ever really had contact with.
Now the story stuff. This is only going off what I formed when I was RPing with her, and also I may miss some crucial aspects of Mei's story, so I apologize in advance. This will also have quite a few projections onto Mei that may deviate a bit from canon. (This is also from like over a year ago lol)
Mei's early life and childhood had her spending a lot of time around adults instead of kids her age, so she was socially awkward in school, but always excelled in math and science class. When she was younger, both Huizhong and Xiu had similar earnings, but Huizhong decided to take on a lighter workload to spend more time with Mei and let Xiu more thoroughly indulge in her career, like the awesome husband and dad he is.
The only times Mei was ever genuinely spoiled was through clothes- one of Xiu's friends, a seamstress (who may or may not be HC'd to be Jiayi's mom/relative), was happy to make all sorts of pretty outfits for Mei, so in a lot of family photos, Mei's dressed a lot more fancy than she dresses now, which I find pretty funny. Xiu didn't mind if she didn't dress formal, of course- Mei had to make herself look presentable and professional for school and dress pretty for family photos, but those're the only real rules. Xiu ensured Mei didn't let her comfortable lifestyle didn't become too heavy in her life, and Huizhong made sure Mei was controlled, compassionate to everyone, and stayed on top of her studies. Both of them were supportive in anything Mei wanted to do, although Xiu definitely wanted Mei to take over the orchestra. She grew to accept Mei wanting to follow in her father's footsteps instead, a decision made during the Omnic crisis.
Speaking of which.
Huizhong's lab was attacked during the crisis, an Omnic-led attack that led him to lose both legs, and a good deal of his colleagues (some of which Mei had also grown up). That part sent him into a bit of a depression for a while, and he didn't want to return to his job. Xiu worked harder so they could continue to live comfortably, and even during the Crisis, the location of her music hall where she mainly worked was able to go undamaged, mostly. Things for them all, while now slightly rocky (especially with Xiu's eyesight going) remained okay, although both parents grew a bit more protective of Mei. She didn't pay much attention to it, engulfing herself in both her work/studies and taking care of her parents.
She only really left for the first time when going to Overwatch. Neither Xiu or Huizhong were very happy about it, and fought back on it, but eventually relented. Not like they would be able to stop her even if they did.
So then the Cold Snap happens, and Xiu and Huizhong are understandably DEVASTATED. Xiu takes time off from the orchestra to try and get her daughter back, but to no avail. The two end up finding the families of other members of the Ecopoint: Antarctica team, and contacted them asking to work together to find their loved ones. Some families were willing to try, some weren't due to grief. Regardless, any attempts to find the team or bring awareness to the situation fell short, and Xiu buried herself in her work even more to forget. She grew a lot colder towards everyone but Huizhong bc of this. Meanwhile, losing Mei kind of solidified a hatred of Omnics and Overwatch to him. They had cost him his daughter and legs, and he grew very bitter towards the world in general. They only really had each other, and lots of tears were shed in each other's arms from the loss.
In canon storyline, I imagine the events after Mei comes back going one of 2 ways.
1. Xiu and Huizhong both pass away while she's in cryostasis. No serious reason, they just pass due to poor health. Mei learns when she escapes Antarctica about them passing, and visits their graves the first chance she gets. She inherits everything but the house and symphony (those go to family friends probably), but struggles to this day to decide what to do with everything else. Mostly bc I haven't thought that far ahead.
2nd option, and the one I used during RP, they survive and have a reunion with Mei. Yay! But Mei says she wants to go back to overwatch, and both Xiu and Huizhong snap. Not yay. They're FURIOUS. Like, they just got her daughter back, and now they think they're gonna lose her again, and don't understand why she's staying. So, Mei leaves, and contact is reduced to a minimum because her parents are incredibly bitter about her choices. Which is also why they don't show up for Christmas, bc they can't stand Overwatch and still aren't over the fight.
What's devastating is that all 3 of them want to make up. Mei wants nothing more than to have her parents back, but she knows she has to focus on the wellbeing of the world as it stands right now. Xiu and Huizhong both heavily regret everything they said during the fight with Mei, but aren't ready to apologize or open their perspectives. It's a really sad situation tbh. They all just want their family to be okay.
So
Uh
Yeah, I think I covered pretty much everything
Once again, a lot of this is heavily ingrained in projection, headcanonizing, and possibly forgetting lore bc of RP. And there's definitely some irl facts that aren't super accurate in general (i.e.: Xiu's job), but I'm content with where my HC stands bc it makes me happy (and sad)
Thank you for asking! I doubt you were expecting this, but I haven't genuinely thought abt these 3 in so long that I just had to lol
