no. the relationships we need more of are the toxic ones. the ones where they really need each other to be there but they resent the fact that they need each other. the ones where they punch each other in the face and then clean their wounds. where they'll rip each other to shreds with their words and then watch tv and eat ice cream together. where they've seen each other screaming and crying and throwing up on their knees and would never tell anyone but don't remember the other's birthday.

i am a sucker for those sorts of relationships. where everything sucks and hurts and they hate each other but they've been around each other too long to leave now.

they just need to hate each other and need each other and really REALLY love each other.

torchwood s1 is so funny because we all laugh about the dogshit management going down at torchwood three but it really was that bad. owen and suzie are just taking alien shit home for their own purposes, ianto's been hiding his half-dead cyberwoman girlfriend in the basement for months unnoticed, tosh's one night stand gives her a necklace that lets you read minds and she just doesn't mention it. at the end of the season they mutiny. by the start of kiss kiss bang bang gwen is doing a better job leading the team than jack ever did

still making my way through rtd's non-doctor-who work. currently at mine all mine which is from 2004. one character says to another character "you should meet ianto." i (not welsh) (never been to wales) (only know like one welsh person) am like "oh ha ha like ianto from torchwood?" and then immediately shut that down like "ianto is probably a very common welsh name, the fact that my mind immediately goes to ianto from torchwood is just a sign of my ignorance/lack of interaction with welsh people." character shows up to meet ianto.
