Summary:

All his life Billy had heard tales of magic, but he'd never expected them to be anything more than stories to frighten children. He certainly never dreamed that he would one day be able to do magic himself.

Ideas for a Black Phone/Magic School AU

Finney and Gwen are Half-Blooded Mages (Human Father/Witch Mother)

Robin is a Werewolf.

Vance is a Vampire.

Bruce is a Wizard

Griffin is a Changeling.

Billy is a Frankenstein Creature.

Max is a professor of Magic History 101 at N’Evermore.

The Grabber is a Dark Wizard that possesses Blood Magic, the most forbidden form of magic.

For the story, students of N’Evermore are being attacked in the halls of school by a mysterious figure known as The Grabber, who drains his victims of their magical essences. (Either to cast a powerful spell or to undo a curse placed on him for tampering with Blood Magic)

The drainage spell doesn’t kill the kids here, but it does leave them in a comatose-like state barely clinging to life.

With more kids being attacked, magical siblings Finney and Gwen team up with other students to stop The Grabber once and for all.

Headcanons:

Roommates: Finney & Robin. Gwen & Suzie. Billy & Griffin. Vance & Bruce.

Gwens’ magic is considered light while Finneys magic is in a gray area (between light & dark)

Gwen has healing abilities, can link to other people through dreams, and can conjure visions. Finney can cast spells,but above all, he has the ability to connect with spirits of the dead.

Because of her healing abilities, Gwen sometimes volunteers around the Hospital Wing of the school. (That’s how she became connected to the Grabbers victims later on in the story)

Bruce becomes a magical tutor for Finney, who struggles with his powers in the story.

Before attending the school, Bruce inherited his fathers old staff. He wears it around his neck, shrunken size.

Vance became a vampire after his mother survived an attack while pregnant with him. This made him being a vampire… let’s say, a sore subject.

His parents basically left Vance on his own to figure out his powers. Going to N’Evermore was an escape for Vance.

Amongst his powers, Vance can connect with nearby bats to conjure an army.

Every full moon night, Robin sneaks out of the school to run through the nearby woods. It’s his favorite thing in the world because it makes him feel connected with his Dad.

Robin had been raised by his Uncle after his Dad was killed by Monster Hunters(sacrificing himself to save either a friend or young Robins life)

In this AU, Griffin has elemental/nature kind of magic.

Griffin has trouble fitting in with his peers, after spending his life being raised in a mythical forest by Faes.

Billy was actually born human and was turned into the creature he is today. He woke up one day, in the schools hospital wing, only to discover his body was covered in stitches, he had super strength and electrical powers.

The incident left his mind a jumbling mess, and he can’t remember what happened to him, or his life before. The school is trying to help him with his trauma and to find out who he is.

Harper is his Anxiety Dog, the school lets Billy take her everywhere.

Magic teacher, Max Shaw used to be a student at N’Evermore with his older brother; Albert. They both loved it there, especially the nights when they would sneak into the restricted section of the library.

Black Adam getting Confused

I was reading the wiki trying to learn more about Theo Adam, and on the page I read that he was just evil and essentially just killed the Batsons for a scarab. That’s it. Then Adam possessed him. See, the wiki doesn’t say if Adam has any of Theo’s memories, but what if he did?

Adam’s pissed. He wants to take down the current champion. So, he flies to Fawcett to take him out. He’s then met with a golden retriever of a man who feels familiar and a looks a little too excited to be seeing Adam. Did the wizard not tell this oaf about him?

Marvel: “This is awesome! I’ve never met someone like me!” *starts yapping about how it’s awesome to meet another champion*

Black Adam: *not even listening, the words sound like this to him, is just thinking of where he knows this man is from*

Marvel: *still yapping*

Black Adam: *gets hit with a flashback so hard you would’ve thought it was a flash-bang. Remembers stabbing C.C. in the back, literally, and leaving him to die*

Marvel: *asks Adam something*

Black Adam: “What was that?” *is literally reliving when Theo went after Marilyn next*

Marvel: “What’s your name?”

Black Adam: *stares for a few moments, confused, wondering if Marvel remembers him*

It’s not like this deters Adam though. He still thinks the man is his sworn enemy. They still fight to near deaths and all that, but the memories bother Adam. Not because he was ashamed Theo killed Batson in such an underhanded way (he was just a tad bit), but rather because he doesn’t know how the man is alive. As far as Adam knew, dead people couldn’t just come back and be champions. If that were the case, wouldn’t the very first champion still be the current one?

Teth finally got to ask his question after a particularly brutal fight that messed the both of them up. Adam was on the ground, nose bloody, but nothing more. The current champion never went anything further than immobilizing him. It infuriated him, but since the man gave him more chances to kill him, whether it be on purpose or not, he’d let the matter go. Speaking of the man, he was standing, lip split open, bruises on his face, one of his eyes was half closed and had blood leaking from it, a consequence of Adam aiming for his eye. The current champion’s appearance once again reminded him of Batson once more.

Black Adam: “How’re you alive?”

Marvel: “Huh? What?”

Black Adam: “You should’ve died. In a tomb.” *coughs* “He used the knife. He let you bleed out. The tomb was collapsing and you should’ve only been a normal human being at the time.”

Marvel: *slowly coming to a realization that, holy fudge sticks, Adam thinks he’s his dad*

Black Adam: “So tell me, how are you alive?”

Marvel: *is silent for a bit and definitely won’t turn down the chance to make his dad sound like a badass* “I refused to die.”

Black Adam: “…What?”

Marvel: “I refused to die. I couldn’t leave my wife, my children, my friends, everyone I knew behind. So, I refused to die. I crawled out of the tomb and then the Wizard found me.”

That was actually true. Well, everything but the Wizard thing. In this AU, when C.C. had been stabbed, he managed to crawl out of the tomb, even with a leg that had gotten crushed by debris. Though unfortunately, he died due to blood loss soon after. This was all detailed in a newspaper Billy happened to find about a week after he got kicked out of the house by Ebenezer.

By the way, during that entire speech about making his dad sound like a badass, Marvel didn’t smile. And if Teth was being honest, he uh… he didn’t like that. Mostly because even during the times Marvel fought him, he still smiled at him. He didn’t know how to feel about an unsmiling Marvel. So now, back in Kahndaq, Teth sat on his throne kind of just running the entire interaction through his head over and over again.

But you see, this isn’t the only time Adam’s been completely befuddled by Billy. There was a time he went to Fawcett in disguise and happened to me a certain someone…

Black Adam: *walking down the sidewalk*

Billy: *running down the sidewalk, bumps into him, and then looks up to Adam*

Black Adam: “Watch where you’re going-” *almost goes into cardiac arrest when he sees a kid that looks exactly like his nephew, just white*

Billy: “Sorry, Mister.” *continues running*

Black Adam: *watches him run off with a mortified look on his face*

When he tries to find out more about the kid that bumped into him, he had been pronounced missing and presumed dead. This made Adam kind of feel like shitting himself because for a brief moment he entertained the thought that his nephew had reincarnated or something.

AU where Captain Marvel is literally just three kids in a trench coat and no one notices.

Mary on the bottom, holding them all up and getting super strong legs from holding them all the time. She jokes it’s because she holds the family together.

Freddy in the middle as the arms. He surrounds himself in pillows to give them the appearance of muscles and being bigger than they are. It’s doubles as protection from attacks.

Billy is on the top as the head and spokesperson. He’s the one who has to talk to civilians and convince others that they’re a singular normal adult.

It started off as a way to get into pg13 movies (they didn’t want to see the R rated ones, they just wanted to watch the fnaf movie or something), but when it worked (the person working there was so amused, they just let them through) they got more confident and started doing it more and more often.

Because of Fawcett nonsensical and at times childish logic, the city (or its connection to the rock of eternity) sees this and decides to play along. The magic of the city lets them slowly become more and more convincing, and eventually gods and even the universe itself join in on this little game.

The kids think they are master actors and become brave enough to become a superhero. They don’t notice when their pillow protection works a bit too well and saves them from increasingly deadly blows. They don’t realize that no amount of leg strength could let Mary leap over an entire building, or that being charismatic isn’t enough to give Billy the knowledge and wisdom needed to be convincingly adult-like, or that doing sports couldn’t give Freddy the speed and reaction time to catch a projectile in mid air before it hits them.

It gets to the point where they join the justice league and lie about their powers coming from a wizard named ‘shazam’ and a few gods. They come up with a few random gods on the spot, not realizing that many of them are from different sources or aren’t gods at all, but they still convince them. Even Batman is fully confident that they are an adults and telling the truth about the source of their powers.

The kids think they’re pulling the greatest scheme in the universe.

The universe is happy that it has adopted three newly super powered children in a trench coat.

Was thinking of Split and other aus involving Marvel being perceived as a dad and immediately my mind went to ‘Billy claims to be the dad instead’, since Marvel being created or born from his idea of a hero, technically being older, and being the new wizard giving him a higher status then Marvel

Or the shazamily just randomly claim to be Billy’s kids so they don’t get give away to much about themselves that eventually it becomes a inside joke between them

(This is actually apart of my AU lol)

But what if Billy didn’t know Shazam, the Wizard, was actually dead? Like maybe he did see Shazam get crushed by rocks but he just thinks a Wizard could survive that, Or he doesn’t remember meeting Shazam for whatever reason. (Like he knows it happened because his pantheon told him so, and he remembers like a tiny bit of being at the RoE, but maybe he doesn’t remember Shazam dying)

This would be kinda funny to think about, especially if the pantheon’s trying desperately not to let Billy know Shazam died. But they occasionally slip up, and each time they do Billy gets slightly more suspicious. Also, in my AU since Billy and Marvel and separate entities, I think it would be funny aswell if Marvel didn’t know either. (—which I do have an AU explanation to make it work, but I fear I may be getting too off track already.)

Zatanna (Going pale at the mention of a very much dead Wizard being referred to in present tense): Mhm….yeah…

(the league in the cafeteria, listening to one of the rare times they got Captain to talk about themself. —Billy’s just procrastinating going outside in the midwestern November cold.)

Billy: So I got my powers from this Wizard, his names…um. I think I told Zatanna? Captain looks over at her.

Zatanna (going pale): Really. I don’t remember.

Billy: Oh, okay, that’s fine! Here.

Grabs a piece of paper and scribbles down the name.

Superman: Shazam?

Every magic user in the cafeteria freezes.

Billy: Yeah! He’s the wizard who gave me my powers. I haven’t seen him since I became Captain Marvel, though. I should really go talk to him, maybe I’ll do that later.

#3: Role Swap between Billy and Mary — Mary being the chosen Champion — first transformation during the Black Adam attack / C.C and Marilyn died / kidnapped — Amnesiac until a triggering incident occurred and regained her memories after years lived in Middle East / North Africa (especially Egypt), flew back to USA — Billy got adopted by the Bromfields

#4: Puppeteer Billy — Captain Marvel is a puppet / clay — Puppet was given by the wizard — “Shazam” is a spell only exclusive to the Champion to summon / un-summon — Needs to be in the area or else the puppet will stop working

Almost Complete - Shazam without Achilles

AU - Billy receives the news, not all his sponsors agreed that he was to be the new champion of magic.

Solomon was happy to guide him with his advice. ▲ Hercules was convinced that he would be a great lion when he grew up a little. ▲ Atlas was very kind and is willing to bear some of the weight of the new champion. ▲ Zeus had given his approval in consensus with the choice of the wizard. ▲ Mercury really enjoyed feeling the strength of speed through Billy again. ▲ Achilles, yes, this Achilles... He didn't want him fighting for justice or fighting in general. He was completely against a child throwing himself against evil, injustice, pain, and many more things that Solomon hushed up so as not to worry Billy. ▲ It was non-negotiable, Achilles would not give his gift until Billy was an adult or understood the magnitude of what it meant not to have it.

Then...

Yes. There was something that didn't come in the demigod package instructions or even in the warnings...

Billy receives an echo of all the damage he recibes in his divine form.

And boy... does it hurt!

Billy has paraded through all kinds of injuries. Black eyes, some broken or bruised bone and he is proud of having recovered from all of them.

Although...

People are too scared about his integrity.

So, there was only one alternative left, you know, that's why he left the orphanage and all his previous foster homes.

He had gotten used to the whole system and was at a dead end at the same time. But he didn't want to give rise to misunderstandings... Misunderstandings that would generate a barrage of abuse reports... heavens.

That wasn't heroic.

"What happened to you, Billy?"

"Sorry, I fell again..."

Billy doesn't want them to get involved. He wants to be a hero and is willing to bear that weight. That's why he took what little he had and escaped.

So he is opting for a word-based approach. Talking is better than hitting. Solomon always whispers it and, given his situation, he tries to hold on as much as he can.

But sometimes... one cannot choose.

Hal: Cap, are you okay?

Marvel: Yes! It's just going to leave me an ugly bruise. Do you know... Do you know how to heal a rib at home?

Hal: We'll fix it in the Watchtower, Cap. Can you still fight?

Billy knows he should say no. The blow broke a couple of ribs, he has felt a tingling sensation, the magic has healed the blow... But the echo of the damage will leave him with a broken rib.

Another blow in the same place and it could be much worse... Going to a hospital and returning to the system... Goodbye Captain... Goodbye freedom... Hello endless persecution.

Marvel: Yes, throw it at me, I'll send it to jail with one hit.

Hal: That's the spirit, Cap!

With the end of the day, Captain Marvel delivered the final blow.

But the one who really took it was Billy.

As usual, the infirmary in the Watchtower did not detect any damage in his adult form... But they didn't know what awaited him in Fawcett.

Marvel: Batman, sir, I need to take a couple of weeks off. I have an urgent matter to attend to and it cannot be postponed.

Batman: I'm going to send the notice, so we can support you in your city. Thanks for today, Captain.

Marvel: Thank you very much too Batman, I don't know what I would do without you.

Batman: Captain... Are you sure you're not hurt?

Billy: I-I have the resistance of Achilles, remember? I mean! Of course, I'm not hurt, Mr. Batman!

Billy narrowly escapes and prepares. It's time.

That terrible moment in his superhero career...

The curtain must fall.

Billy has already thought about it. The magnitude of the injury...

He must transform as close as possible to the hospital. If he can walk, he will go to his hideout and if he can't, he will have to surrender. Escaping will be terrible, but he would think about that when the time came.

It takes a while, pronouncing that word is so easy... But now it brings a bitter taste.

Sha... Sha...

Billy sits down. It will hurt less if he is sitting when it happens.

Billy: Shazam...

Billy faints next to an alley. It's the last thing he sees before waking up in the hospital.

He wears an oxygen mask.

His head hurts... Had he also hit there?

There were several devices connected, oh, and a social worker next to his bed.

He rejoined the Watchtower three weeks later. Batman had many questions, and Captain Marvel did what he does best: he escaped.

Sebastian is that one insufferable guy (love him). He’s moody as hell and he uses music as a form of processing (im self inserting rn). A lot of his top music is reflective of what he’s going through. For the most part he’s into indie rock and alt rock, but if there’s a song that he can even sort of relate to then he’s all over it. He thinks he’s brooding, he’s edgy, he’s angsty. We all know he made 2014 tumblr his BITCH. And he has NOOO IDEA how ABBA ended up in his top 5. He’ll say it was Ominis. He’ll say he was hacked. (his fav ABBA song is Lay All Your Love On Me)

Natsai’s minutes listened is the lowest because she’s too busy dismantling the patriarchy and abolishing the system to listen most of the time. She grew up in the Katniss Everdeen generation. There’s not one man vocalist on her playlist because doesn’t really care what they have to say. She’s not super picky about the genre but listening to guitar riffs makes her feel like she’s ascending and so she loves that shit. She begged her mom to let her go to a Paramore concert when she was twelve and she has band posters covering her walls from corner to corner. She knows musical theory because duh. I love her.

Second half of Horse and the infant where Zeus comes in with Billy pleading to spare someone, either with actual Zeus or the Wizard who does have reoccurring prophetic powers, and Billy reluctantly chooses a death that will haunt him over losing what family he has left

Warrior of the mind with, again, one of his benefactors like Solomon or the Wizard. Solomon in this context offering his blessing to be bestowed on a Champion for the opportunity to guide a great leader/king but instead getting a child that rarely listens to him, or The Wizard wanting a great Champion for magic and not someone who demeans themselves to a simple town centered hero. That or being the most literal with Mary bright and still optimistic and Athena as her wisdom benefactor

This one goes off script but Ruthlessness but with someone/some group that hurt Billy getting targeted in any of the litany of timelines and AU’s where this kid ended up dead or grievously screwed over by fate. Mind keeps going to Injustice or Justice Lords on it with the line “You are the worst kind of good ‘cause you’re not even great. A /hero/ that reeks of false righteousness, that’s what I hate!” directed at good ‘ol dictator Supes in JL!au where villains were getting lobotomized and I don’t see Billy watching his heroes go full evil dictators in the background. With JL’s Supermans “mercy” he’d definitely piss someone off

The Underworld after the first fourth where it gets into all the people that died, I thought of Billy remembering Arson Fiend’s victims since he feels horrible for those numerous deaths and did have nightmares about them, with Polites’ part sung by an optimistic Kit whose yet to be brought back.
