as far as internalized homophobia goes, 99% sure it’s only cam and Todd who are really going through it with that. It is my personal belief that the Andersons are hardcore zealot Christians and with that of course comes homophobia, meaning Todd has grown up hating himself for something he cannot change, which only worsens his already fragile self-image and confidence.

Cam. there are two wolves inside the dps fandom. one believes cam is unredeemable and homophobic. the other thinks him to be a closeted queer suffering from the effects of the 1950s. both are valid. imagine growing up in the 50s and you are obsessed with succeeding and doing well and being perfect and smart. you are shit at socializing and the slightest suggestion that you yourself may not be straight is enough to send you into a meltdown. much to think about.

The reason I think these two are the only ones afflicted with the home of phobia is because I think:

1) Charlie dalton has known they were queer since like age 11, they’re over the self-hate and now it’s time to be Sexy and Scandalous

2) knox is too stupid to realize he is queer and once he finds out he’s like WHAT? NOOOOOOOO and then he gets over it after like a week

3) meeks aroace king my beloved. doesn’t know how to hate he’s too busy filling his brain with Knowledge

4) pittsie is a little too emotionally inept to both a) realize he’s queer and b) get worked up over it. women? pretty. men? pretty. science? The prettiest

5) and last but certainly not least my babygirl neil…I am such a firm believer that he doesn’t even know he’s gay and he has nothing against gay people because his best friend is charlie fucking dalton and he started tuning out the bullshit from his father’s mouth in middle school. so when he realizes he’s gay, he’s like, “oh. okay.” And then just moves on with his life

Idk these are just my very detailed and self indulgent thoughts about how each of the poets feels about their sexualities and stuff. I could go even further into detail but this shit is already way too long lol xoxo

Maybe they don’t even notice their developing relationship until Eddie tells them he’s got a date with Steve so can we maybe pack up band practice a little faster and all the boys freak out because “we thought you hated him?!”

My best friend/future housemate is reading AFTG for the first time, so here are some of their thoughts as of Ch.4 of TFC:

- “Dan has a lot to prove so I think she must come from an environment where she was often overlooked as an individual and had to work to support her family, probably because of financial struggles”
