My favourite things about the whole OceanGate disaster, in no particular order
That the vessel was originally named Cyclops II but the CEO renamed it to Titan, so itâs even BETTER than the Titanic
He also called it indestructible
The guy piloting the vessel is an ex-naval captain who has been on several titanic manned trips. But the guy is 77 rn
The billionaire from Pakistan is apparently friends with King Charles. Youâd think for someone whoâs besties with a guy whose job was literally being born, heâd care more about protecting his bloodline. Instead, he brought his 19 year old with him
Meanwhile, the stepson of one of the other billionaires (I think the British one named Hamish) went to a Blink 182 concert. When questioned about this, he basically went âmy family would want me to go to the concertâ. Today, minutes after posting about asking for thoughts and prayers, he @âed an OF model on Twitter, asking her to sit on his face
Bc itâs part of the safety demo & music track list for the trip, there is a VERY good chance that if thereâs still some power left in the sub, itâs playing an instrumental of My Heart Will Go On on loop
Also, the vessel is a submersible bc it doesnât meet literally any of the safety regulations to be called a submarine. Which the CEO knew, because heâs blatantly said that safety regulations get in the way of progress
The CEO once stated that he thought the future of humanity was not in space, but in the ocean when the surface becomes uninhabitable
Apparently the controller heâs using has REAL bad reviews because the connection always fails
These idiots paid $250k EACH but they had to pack their own lunch. Not even a damn charcuterie board
The pilotâs seat is on the toilet. So whenever someone needs to go, the pilot needs to move
Thereâs 1 window looking out. Thatâs it
Itâs about the size of a minivan
The sub uses texts (but only to the CEOâs phone) to communicate, as well as StarLink, but they can only access that if they surface
The door literally cannot be opened from inside
There is a decent chance that at least 1 person has been cannibalized (my bet was the pilot since heâs not rich, but bc of the banging sounds, heâs probs not dead, so it may be the CEO)
Theyâre supposed to run out of oxygen tomorrow (22/06/23) at 7 am est, but tbh, the CO2 scrubber system will probs fail before that
The toilet is a plastic bag
This is only the 3rd time in 3 years the vessel has gone to the Titanic. Every other time, thereâs an issue and they gotta turn back within like 4 hours
A lot of major news networks are trying to remain positive, but itâs a HILARIOUS comparison when you go to social media and every single person is like âyeah that shit is built like a cardboard boat, theyâre fuckedâ
The companyâs name is literally called OceanGate

BUDGETING + SAVING MONEY FOR TEENS đ
For many of us, we are entering an age when we can work casual jobs such as retail or fast food. Itâs not a lot of money that we receive, depending on how often you get paid, but it can go a long way in the long term.Â
In this post, Iâll be discussing how to budget for your needs/wants and save money for future goals.Â
CREATING GOALS, you may want to save a certain amount of money in a time frame, want to make a big purchase (like a car) or buy everything off your wishlist. It is entirely up to you what your goals are, so I canât say too much. However, the more specific it is, the better.
HOW MUCH? Determine how much money you need to save to achieve your goal. In total, and monthly.Â
There are three types of saving goals that may apply to you;
Short-term goals >1 year (outings, latest gadget, buying your cart)
Medium-term goals 1-2 years (road trips, shopping spree)
Long-term goals 2-4 years (higher education, car)
Itâs very important to set a realistic time frame, as teens we donât get paid much and we also donât work as much. You donât want to overwhelm yourself as well, as it takes patience and self-control to achieve these goals.
NO LOOONG-TERM GOALS! This may sound aggressive, but any money that just sits in your account for years on end is dead money. Even though the amount of money is increasing, its value is slowly decreasing. Keep your goals achievable within a time frame of less than four years. It's much more useful if this money is put into some type of investment instead.Â
CREATING A BUDGET
Calculate how much money you receive every month, and how much money you spend every month.Â
You have two types of expenses. Fixed and variable. Fixed are any expenses required in your day-to-day life or itâs an amount of money that doesnât change e.g. subscriptions or transportation costs. Variable costs are expenses that may fluctuate, like food, or any other recreational activities.Â
Record the average youâre spending monthly with these two categories.Â
There are many ways people choose to budget, but you have to choose a system that works for you.
Work out how much money you need to save each month to achieve your goal.
However, for anyone whoâs starting in budgeting, I would say to allocate your costs using a percentage system. Your percentages for each category are going to differ from mine; e.g. 60% = savings, 20% = wants, 20% needs. Make sure it reflects the end goal.Â
Track your progress. This is the major part of budgeting, you want to be recording and regularly reviewing how much money youâre spending and comparing it to how much youâre earning. It allows for space to reflect on the flow of your money like if some purchases are worth it, if youâre impulsively spending, or if youâre frequently withdrawing money from your savings.Â
Adjust if needed. Maybe you want to put more money in savings and less into wants, or you want to put more into wants and less into needs.Â
SAVING TIPS
SAY NO! This is probably my biggest struggle at the moment, but say no to things that will cause you to go off track. Whether its outings, getting fast-food or anything similar, say no. You have to be firm with your financial boundaries, as these opportunities will always arise again.Â
RESTRICT IMPULSIVE SPENDING. We all have our moments when we see a product and we instantly think âIâve got to have thisâ. Giving in once or twice is okay, but it shouldnât become a habit at all. Its unnecessary spending (most of the time!) and leads to buyers remorse.Â
IS IT WORTH IT? Always remember to work out which products youâre getting the most value out of.Â
PAYING FOR THE NAME, a lot of brands will cut down on quality to save a few dollars, so essentially the customer is only paying for the name of that brand. Just because a store is more expensive, doesnât mean its better.

Session 1: The Sketches
It was late at night when Leon made his decision to retire fully.
He had gotten home over an hour ago from reviewing mountains of paperwork, most of which pertained to missions that other agents have gone on or will be going on.
Younger agents. More energized agents.
The fact that he hadn't gone on a full mission since San Francisco was driving him up the wall. But that's what he wanted. He requested to hang back the last two years.
Both Chris and Claire had fully retired themselves right after San Fran, Claire being the first to retire to focus on her growing family with Chris following suit only a few months later. Jill was still around, but she was doing similar work that Leon was, only she was in a completely different department which was states away.
Of course Leon still talked with them all as regularly as possible, he'd go insane if he didn't, especially with Claire having a couple kids now. He wasn't the greatest with children, but it was refreshing seeing his friends achieve such normalcy. He wanted them to have the best life they could away from everything.
Having turned 40 a few some months ago, Leon was having a bit of a mid-life crisis. The mission to San Francisco a couple years ago had made him realize just how much toll the job itself had taken on his body. After being assessed and allowed home a few nights after returning from the mission, his body ached; joints creaking, back nearly thrown, just... tired.
Don't get him wrong, he was always tired after missions, but this was different. This wasn't just the regular aches and pains he dealt with after being tossed around like a rag doll, this was age.
Deep in his mind, Leon was still that 21 year old boy in Raccoon City. He never got the chance to properly grieve and move on, his mind forever changed by that event. Mentally, he was stuck there and had been this entire time.
It had taken the man this long to truly recognize the fact that he's older now. He's not that boy from Raccoon City anymore. He hadn't been in a long time.
What was he do to now? Leon had wanted so badly to serve and protect the people, but not like this. Not like he has for the past 29 years.
He spent his most formative years fighting unimaginable horrors, watching people suffer, watching people die. You don't just come back from something like that.
And unlike the friends he's managed to keep close, Leon didn't have someone he trusted. Hell, he barely trusted himself most days.
So now here he was, sitting drunk in his shower with his legs pulled up to his chest, his arms resting atop his knees while the water pelted down on him, silently mulling over everything he's ever seen and done during his time as an agent.
The water had grown cold at this point, Leon having quickly lost track of how long he was sitting spaced out like that for. Thankfully, he'd already cleaned himself before he ended up sitting down, so the hardest part now was just standing back up to get himself back out.
It took him a couple more minutes before he finally hoisted himself up with a tired groan, both his knees popping from being stuck in position for such a lengthy amount of time.
Once out of the shower, towel loosely wrapped around his waist, Leon stared at himself in the mirror; busy studying the crow's feet on both outer corners of his eyes as well as the prominent bags sitting under them, the smile line around his mouth, his now brown hair, the stubble on his face and neck that's he's neglected to shave, and just how exhausted he looked.
How has he never noticed any of this before? Why's he look so different now?
Settling into bed after this brutal realization was a tough task. The man followed his nightly routine of taking four Tylenol and two of his prescription sleep meds before setting his a/c 65 degrees Fahrenheit. He learned quickly many years ago that tossing and turning at night would make him overheat and sweat.
But tonight, nothing Leon did could ease that sinking feeling in his chest, that feeling of unfulfillmemt and shame weighing on him more than ever before.
The poor man barely slept at all last night, hangover evident by the way he was still slightly uneven on his feet as he leaned over the center island in his kitchen, head between his forearms while his hands sat clasped together.
Leon knew what he had to do. He's been feeling it ever since Chris and Claire made their departure, but it was so easy to deny. How was he suppose to give up the one thing that made him important? Sure the stress of his work was heavily tasking on the mind and body, but it's what gave him purpose. He felt useful doing what he did.
The man showed up for work late that day, barely having managed to dress himself. He didn't know exactly who to go to in this scenario, but everyone seemed surprised that the Leon Kennedy would show up for work in some ratty t-shirt and grey sweatpants. The stares were making him incredibly uncomfortable and he was quickly regretting showing up at all.
After sitting in his own office for awhile to avoid the looks and whispers, Leon eventually sauntered over to his superior's office, an almost solemn look on his face as he let himself in after knocking.
Needless to say, Leon was relieved his superior knew this was coming. Slightly offended, but relieved nonetheless.
It had been a long time coming, and it was only a matter of time before Leon threw in the towel, especially since he was now just working behind the scenes instead of on the frontline.
He was allowed to return home for the rest of the day if he wanted to, which Leon quickly took. He really didn't want to be in that building for much longer.
As soon as he returned home he went right back to drinking. And as ashamed as he is to admit, he even cried a little, half empty whiskey bottle in one hand while the other was clenched tightly into a fist as he gripped the pant leg of his sweats.
There wasn't anyone Leon could talk to about this. Chris and Claire had their own respective partners to come home to after retirement, but Leon? Leon had nothing besides a dingy and cold two bedroom house with only the basics inside, including his alcohol cabinet.
The man didn't even give himself time to date, only the occasional one night stand with randoms from the bar. He was too afraid that he would endanger anyone he allowed into his life like that, not to mention he'd been betrayed one too many times to trust in someone that way again. It was his way of keeping himself and everyone else safe.
The therapists he was assigned throughout the years all had the same concern regarding his love life, and deep down Leon was just as concerned, but he rationalized it with that hero complex he developed.
But he just couldn't rationalize it anymore. Leon was alone. He was alone, sad, and afraid.
About a month after Leon's retirement was processed and announced, word spread quickly throughout numerous government branches. There was a celebration set up at the White House to honor his service as a field agent.
The President had separated him and Leon from the party to slowly walk through the many hallways in the building. The old man could tell just how bothered the now ex-agent was by his retirement, so he figured now would be the best time to talk to him about his final task.
"You know," The President spoke up after a couple minutes of the two walking in silence, prompting Leon to slowly turn his head to listen. "I'm sure you've heard it so many times tonight, but you truly were one of the best agents I've ever seen."
Leon chuckled quietly, shaking his head a bit at the compliment. He had heard it a lot tonight, but obviously it was different coming from him.
"I'm serious. This county, probably the entire world, would've been in shambles if not for your hours spent." The President continued, slowing his walking to a stop.
"It means more than you know." Leon responded simply, voice a bit gravelly from the few drinks he's had. He took a couple steps more before stopping as well, turning around to face the prominent old man.
The President sighed, giving him a sympathetic smile while nodding. They stood in silence for a brief moment before the old man spoke up again, pointing lazily down the hall. "Follow me, I've got something I want to show you."
From there, the two wandered further down the halls until eventually reaching one hall that had lights more centered towards the walls, highlighting the picture frames that sat evenly spaced out amongst them.
Leon seemed a tad confused until he was able to focus on the first painting they walked by. He knew each president got a portrait painted after their full term was served, but the man in this painting wasn't a past president.
He stopped walking to stand in front of the painting, admiring the details it had before glancing down at the bottom of the elegant frame, a placard reading a name he didn't recognize. What he did recognize, though, was the word Agent that sat in front of the man's name.
While zoned into the placard, Leon didn't register the gentle hand that had been clasped on his shoulder, the President's voice breaking through his trance. "For as long as there's been bioweapons, we've had agents fighting to stop them. But only a few agents have truly outdone themselves. Agents like you."
Leon blinked a couple times before turning his head to look at the hand on his shoulder, eyebrows furrowed. He wasn't quite understanding what he was saying.
The President took his silence as a cue to continue, his sympathetic smile turning into a happier one as he gently tugged Leon's shoulder to get him to start walking again. "The D.S.O. has produced some of the greatest agents since Benford created it back in 2011. You were amazing before, but you've outdone yourself time and time again."
Leon still wasn't quite understanding, really only half listening as he kept his eyes trained to the numerous portraits of agents as he slowly passed them.
The two stopped in front of the last painting in the hallway, only a few spots away from leading into another hallway. It was Chris and Claire in this painting. Chris was sitting down in a chair while Claire stood next to him, hand resting on back of it, both of them smiling.
He studied the painting for a minute longer before whipping his head around to face the President, who was still smiling, as the realization slowly settling in.
"I-" Leon struggling to speak, glancing back at the painting before quickly looking back at the old man standing next to him.
The President simply nodded his head, smile widening with a gentle laugh. "Right. The painting process takes a bit of time, but I think you've more than earned this."
The ex-agent had so many questions. Firstly, why hadn't Chris or Claire mentioned this? But more importantly, he gets to have his own portrait painted?
"The painter knows all about you. She's excited to meet you." The President started down the hall again, Leon not far behind, still stuttering out nonsense as he attempted to form even a sentence. "I'll give you the information you need to get started with her. I have it written down back in my office."
A painting?
A painting. A painting for him. A painting to honor him. What?
Leon was once again sat on his couch, blankly staring at the small business card with a date and time written on it in pen. He'd read the info on the card so many times already, wanting to make sure he got absolutely nothing wrong.
Apparently he didn't have to call and confirm, all he had to do was show up to this random address at a specific date and time, which was soon. In a couple days kind of soon. Also, he thought he was reading the time wrong, but no, it was four in the morning, not four in the afternoon. What an odd and rather inconvenient time.
Even after memorizing the business card front to back, Leon would be lying if he said he didn't forget about meeting up with this mystery painter. He'd been rather aloof the past couple months, it was hard to pull himself out of that funk. He'd been staying up late and sleeping in even later, so hitting snooze on his alarm a good few times was just muscle memory at this point.
It was almost 5am when he realized where he was suppose to be, eyes shooting open as he yanked himself out of bed, desperately trying to clean himself up enough to be at least presentable.
The man was mentally chastising himself the entire drive. It was a short drive, which he was surprised by, and the building seemed quaint; red brick with large windows that sat on what looked like either a second or third floor.
He parked his bike right near what he assumed was the main door, pulling off his motorcycle helmet before knocking and waiting.
The last thing Leon was expecting was you to unlock and open that door; young and pretty, so pretty...
"Mr. Kennedy?" You asked, eyebrows raised slightly with a small smile. He nodded, just barely noticeable, reaching a gloved hand up to wipe at his eyes as he caught himself staring.
Your smile only widened at his nod, stepping aside to allow him into walk in. It took him a minute to realize you were still talking, shaking his head out to refocus himself.
"-again, really, no need to worry about being late. I was trying to work with your schedule but I should've known it's changed up a bit by now, right?" You lead him up a set of narrow stairs, though he was mostly following the smell of your perfume. It was such a light smell but he definitely picked up on it.
You opened a door immediately to the left of the stairs, letting Leon follow you inside. The sun was just starting to rise, shining through the large windows in the open room.
The place was cluttered, yet organized. Crowded, but that just made it all the cozier to Leon. His house was bare and lacked any sort of personality, but this... this place was covered in you.
"I'm glad you like it in here." You said in a quiet voice, looking up at him as he took in your workspace. He was smiling ever so slightly, which you mimicked with a smile of your own. "I try to make it welcoming in here, my apartment is the same way.."
Your voice trailed off as you walked over to a mostly put together set up near the back of the room where the only wall without windows sat. There was a chair sitting close to the wall, the same chair Chris was sitting in for his portrait with Claire, along with your easel sitting empty a few feet away.
Leon stood frozen, only moving his head around as he took everything in. He followed you with his eyes as you fumbled around with something, eventually producing a blank 24" x 36" canvas that was still wrapped in thin plastic.
His mouth made an 'o' shape as he pulled himself from his small trance once again, beginning to slowly make his way over to the set up you've made. He placed his helmet down on the floor beside the chair.
After placing the canvas on the easel, you walked back over to where you'd gotten the canvas from before grabbing a heavily used sketchbook. It was a large one, the paper a light brown instead of white.
Leon had only just realized that there was a faint sound of some form of classical music playing from somewhere in the room, glancing around for speakers before looking back over at you.
"I'm not getting started today, we're a couple steps away from that, so don't worry about appearance just yet." You said softly with a breathy laugh, quickly making your way back over to where he stood next to the plush chair in your setup, his hand feeling over the worn maroon fabric.
Leon nodded silently, moving to sit down once you requested he did, furrowing his eyebrows as he watched you drag over a small table. You worked fast, that's for sure.
Eventually, you'd set up a little tabletop easel to sit on the table you'd dragged in front of him, grabbing your swivel chair to sit in as you placed your sketchbook on the easel, open to a blank page.
"I just need to get some basic ideas of your facial structure since that's most important when it comes to these kinds of paintings. You're gonna be wearing a nice tuxedo when I do the second- no, third sketch for the final painting, but this is just for me to get a feel for you and vise versa." You rambled quickly, pulling out a pencil from one of your pockets before fully sitting down on the chair, bringing your legs up to sit criss cross.
"Uh.. Alright..." Leon responded, clearing his throat a bit. He didn't really understand what you'd said, you spoke a little too fast for his tired brain to keep up, but it seemed like whatever you were doing was necessary so he just rolled with it.
He was left a little speechless again at how you just began sketching, glancing up to his face and down to the page you were working on over and over. "...do you need me to, I don't know, pose or something?"
The way you kept looking at him was making feel a little uneasy. Granted he's never been in this sort of situation before, this whole process was very unfamiliar to him.
"No, no. You can move your head around and stuff. Get comfortable." You waved off, eyes wrinkling as you smiled at him. Leon nodded again, deciding to take the opportunity to look around your workspace again.
It really was a cozy space. Full of color and life, even the curtains you had lining the windows offered so much pattern and detail to the room. The back of the room where the two of you sat was more cluttered with less decor, but the front of the room was a whole different story with those massive floor pillows, blankets of all sorts strewn about, that big fluffy looking area rug, it was all so... homey. It was even inspiring him to decorate his own house a bit.
The sound of your pencil scribbling on paper and the faint sound of the classical music playing was all Leon could hear for awhile, eventually letting out an anxious sigh before beginning to talk. "So... a painter, huh..?"
"Oh yeah, I've been doing this since I was little. Obviously I wasn't that good back then, but I really improved after high school." You immediately responded, voice a little louder than his. Clearly the topic excites you. "If you want, I can hand you one of my other sketchbooks to look at while I do my thing over here?"
Leon patted his hands against the arms of the chair before nodding to the side, pursing his lips slightly. "Mm, sure. Let's see what ya got.."
As soon as he agreed, you stood up and shuffled over to the corner of the room where some desks sat arranged in a makeshift cubicle. You opened a drawer and pulled out a couple sketchbooks, still as raggedy as the one you were using now.
Walking back over, you carefully handed them to him, which he slowly took after meeting your eyes for a brief moment.
Once you made your way back to your chair, he placed both sketchbooks into his lap, opening up the one on top first. The man flipped through them silently as you began to sketch him out again.
You'd zoned into your work, adding just a bit of shading to your sketches to help emphasis some features when Leon cleared his throat again. You leaned to the side to look at him, your smile quickly returning when you saw his baffled expression.
"These are... wow, okay, how old are you?" Leon asked, head jerking upwards to meet your gaze once more. You just giggled in response, using the pencil as a fidget before returning to sketching.
"Sorry-uh, I don't mean to come off as rude or anything, but to be honest, I was expecting you to be some old lady when I saw the portraits you've done." Leon was quick to try and explain, probably misinterpreting your lack of response for unease.
Your giggle turned to a small laugh, leaning to the side once more to look at the man. "Well, I'm glad I could surprise you a bit. Hopefully I don't look old."
Leon groaned and wiped his hand down his face. "Again, sorry. Didn't mean to imply." He shook his head and looked back down at the two sketchbooks sitting in his lap, continuing to flip through them.
It was only a couple hours until you decided you got a good enough feel for drawing his face. Grabbing the sketchbook, you stood up, pencil still in hand, looking down at the sketches you made as you slowly walked over to him.
The man noticed you standing up, quickly moving to close the sketchbooks you'd given him in favor of seeing your new sketches.
"I... I think this'll be enough today. I don't want to keep you too long." You said, handing him the sketchbook. Leon took it from you, careful not to smudge anything as he finally got to see what you've been doing for the past two hours.
He furrowed his eyebrows as he studied the sketches you'd made of his face, seeing all the different angles, even the smile, how'd you get his smile?
You seemed to grow nervous the longer he stared at your sketchbook in silence, his intense look making it seem as if he didn't really like them. "Are they... Are they okay?"
Leon jostled the sketchbook a bit in his hands before standing up, now towering over you as he kept his eyes on the paper. "Just okay? These are beyond amazing."
You let out a small breath you didn't notice you were holding, heat rushing to your cheeks as you smiled at his compliment. "Oh, thank you.. I'm sorry, normally sketches don't take this long but it was stressed to me that your portrait was very important so I wanted to get everything as perfect as I could.."
"Seriously, you're a mad woman if you think these wouldn't be good." Leon chuckled, handing the sketchbook back to you. He kept his eyes trained on you, even after you turned to look down and close the sketchbook. Only a fool would miss that blush on your cheeks, it looked good on you.
"Anyways, when should I come back for the next.. uh..." Leon paused, crossing his arms loosely as he struggled to think of the word.
Luckily, you finished the sentence for him. "Session. Again, this painting's importance was stressed to me a lot, so probably the next time you're available?" You talked while you shifted the small table back to where it had originally sat under one of the numerous windows, tossing the sketchbook down on the chair cushion.
"Alright, since it's importance has now been stressed to me as well, I can probably clear up some stuff in my schedule. How's tomorrow sound?" Obviously, Leon had a completely free schedule, but you didn't need to know that.
"Tomorrow works great! The sooner the better!" You laughed, placing a gentle hand on his bicep as you walked past him to grab a sticky note. "I'll give you my personal number, just let me know when you're thinking of coming over and I'll meet you here, okay?"
Leon looked at your number before pocketing the note, nodding his head with a smile of his own. "Sounds good. Same way out?" He pointed to the door that you brought him in through, bending down to pick up his motorcycle helmet right after.
You confirmed with a thumbs up, now drinking water from your water bottle as you'd forgotten too while focused on drawing. You felt bad for not offering him any water while he was here, but you won't forget next time.
The man gave you a curt wave before leaving the room, quietly shutting the door behind himself.
You had to admit, you've worked with a very small handful of agents since it takes a lot for them to earn their own portrait, but Leon Kennedy had to be the one of the most handsome men you've ever worked with. Maybe even one of the most handsome men you've ever seen.
Lucky you pay attention to detail, cause you definitely didn't see a ring on his finger.

umemiya hajime | captain an idea that wouldn't leave my head. vauge military!au, sfw.
it's no secret captain umemiya trains solo into the late hours of the night. why you thought he'd not be here is beyond reason. or maybe the pain medication. you're favoring your injured knee as you steady yourself, admiring your captain as he moves so effortlessly.
he's a close combat specialist, skill second to none. Â joined the cause so young it makes you embarrassed to be just two years shy from his age. he's such a decorated thirty something captain and somehow you managed to level your skills to be recruited to his team.
vice captain hiragi  had warned you, captain umemiya does not take injuries lightly, don't do something reckless. the vice captain would always let you sneak off and start training after injury early. granted, he'd stick you on desk duty for a whole month as punishment but he never stopped you from working out.
in your spacing out, umemiya notices your lingering form near an incline bench press. with 55lbs loaded. he normally, wouldn't care if subordinates train late; understands the need to work off tension, especially  after an extensive extermination job. but you? the one his eyes undeniable glue to?
"what are you doing out of bed? shouldn't you be icing that knee and resting?" his voice stern, not the usual playful tone he keeps during daylight. putting away his training blade as he approaches you, body gracefully light despite the weight of his presence.
"some light, rehabilitation?" you smile, soft and sweet. that usually works on vice captain hiragi.Â
"rehabilitation, already? not sure the doc put that in your chart for another 3-4 weeks." Â he watches closely, looking for any evidence of discomfort, knowing full well your left knee hasn't been the same for a few weeks. and the last extermination job had you taking a nasty fall. no amount of stretching, massage or light runs are going to aide the recovery.Â
captain umemiya reviewed your charts personally, the best thing to do is rest. you gotta go slow, take a break. all things hiragi told him you hate doing. she's restless if she's not helpful, reckless if she has something to protect. and you did protect him after all. that nasty fall was his fault. what kind of captain is he?
you stumble when attempting to sit up from the bench press. the captain's eyebrows furrow, "really shouldn't be doing any of that."
"and what about you? thought it was lights out for everyone on base, captain." stay formal, it's so easy to slip and act like you're friends. captain umemiya has that charm about him, none of the military formality seems to last.
he puts his hands up, offering a grin and "touche."
"couldn't sleep so i thought i'd get extra taining in. don't think i'll be getting any rest tonight though."
"too much paperwork again?" concern etched on your face, you don't like when the captain stresses. especially on paperwork, you've been lucky enough to catch a sight of his pretty face wearing glasses, staring into 12pt font forms with a glare so deadly, it sends shivers down your back now.Â
he exhales, looking you up and down, "again, you should be in bed, solider."
"what's on your mind captain?"Â
the last extermination, the fact that he wasn't fast enough, he has to travel to HQ to report on the damage. and you. he'll be gone for seven days and knows your mandatory best rest won't happen. Â he doesn't trust you to actually rest, without him to supervise you're going to push back into training and risk a worse injury.Â
he already feels guilty for dragging you into the fight, your platoon was supposed to keep guard of the rear, not provide additional support. but the extermination priority escalated and you were the closet solider with the strongest rank.Â
the attack, you tripping and being pelted with debris....well, it isn't a sight his mind seems to let go.Â
"hey...this isn't your fault, captain." you point at your knee. "it's been creaking like an old rocking chair for weeks. it was going to flare up, i was bound to trip."
"i should've moved faster. you got hit and i couldn't do anything ot prevent it. i should've seen it coming." he wears guilt like an expensive, delicate coat. too careful to place it anywhere but on his own shoulders.
you see now why vice captain hiragi told you to be careful. it wasn't for your sake really, it's for your captain that dotes on everyone in the platoon.Â
"we can't control the world captain. you used you best judgement in that moment, we completed the extermination and prevented damage to the city. please, this injury is not your fault. don't put that on yourself."
you see his jaw clench, frustration and exhaustion bleeding into his face. "but it is," his voice firmer, "i know when priorities escalate to wait for reinforcement, i lost my cool and we both...as was captain, it was my responsibility to protect you."
"we worked as a great team captain. we won."
but sweet, doting captain huffs and defaults. why is he having such a hard time brushing this off? you've had worse injuries and vice captain hiragi has never looked like this...almost ... sad.
he almost returns to his normal self, that soft gaze, eyes on your knee, "won't change the fact this happened on my watch..."
"no, the fault is actually mine, captain?" voice firm, a bit annoyed, why does he look at you like that? Â "i could've been faster and better aware of my surroundings. i should've taken the first yers up on practicing."
"it's not your fault, you did your best and that's all i asked for. but--"
"if you say its your fault one more time captain, i will" you look for the most menacing object you can reach for, "throw this medicine ball at you." it's an empty threat, he'd probably dodge it easily.
he laughs, finally. Â but that pit at the bottom of your stomach doesn't go away. it's been there for months. the way captain umemiya's eyes look at you... you've tried to deny it but it's different. you don't know if it's your adoration of him, the way he's completed so many successful exterminations, captured back land from the invaded monsters. he's so...different.
you shouldn't think of him like that. the way his lips are probably not the softest but against your own, maybe--
"if you push yourself too hard you'll run the risk of aggravating your knee. it'll take even longer to have you back on the field, i don't want that solider." Â solider. he's putting distance between you two, isn't he? yeah, you definitely shouldn't think of him like that.Â
you're genuinely sad as he removes and restocks the weight plates from the bench press. it's not fair how cute you look to umemiya, so he busies himself with cleaning up, anything to avoid looking at your face. he can play off his protective nature as looking out for the team and you, professionally. that this is for your benefit. has nothing to do with the overwhelming concern that is totally normal for a captain to have. "you gotta trust me on this one, its for your own good."
and yet, you always have your eyes on him, so keen about the tension he's holding, the way you know his eyes trail back to your bandaged knee with guilt. "captain?"
his beautiful velvet sleepy blue eyes meet yours, "hmm?"
"it's really....bothering you a lot? what happened?"
umemiya nods, hesitant to share the depths of guilt and dread he's stuffed down. seeing you fall and not get up, your teary face in the emergency medic facility... if he was strong enough, fast enough, smart enough....
your still unbalanced as you walk over ot him, the need to pull him out of his spiral stronger than remembering you're not friends nad he's your captain. don't touch him, don't speak informally.Â
"i don't  blame you for this. nor does the platoon, nor HQ. and you got me outta there quick, you even yelled at a charge nurse to get me pain meds and held my hand when they moved the ligaments back into place. you were by my side the whole time, even though i know you hate hospitals. which makes you the absolute best captain, okay? so thank you, i mean it. i'd follow you into any extermination captain umemiya."
your words of gratitude and loyalty lift some of the emotional baggage, his eyes searching yours, how do you have so much compassion, care and consideration for him? why? your willingness to stand with him after he got you hurt?Â
and maybe he hasn't imagined your lingering glances, maybe the way your breath hitches when he's close isn't out of fear...maybe the way your eyes dart to his lips at the most inappropriate moments aren't in his head. Â
"and you'll stay by my side, even after all this?" what is he saying, he's your captain!
your smile is that big goofy one you gave him the first day he met you, infectious. as you literally move to his side, he finds himself loosening the cage around his heart "lead the way captain!"
finally, you get to see captain umemiya's  pretty pretty grin, "oh no, that contagious smile." he chuckles.
"we're all gonna get infected! evacuate the base." Â playful, silly, light.
"infect us all, hiragi deserves needs the positivity."Â
you mock salute, "aye aye captain!" moving a bit too quickly and off balance. like umemiya  isn't going to point out how uneven your hips are, your gait is far more telling of the pain that your face tries to hide.  "get to bed."
"i will later, captain, promise."
"am i gonna have to throw you over my shoulder and haul your cute butt into bed?" what is he saying, why is he being so friendly.
you roll your eyes at him. HIM, your captain. oh you don't believe him do you? he starts to walk toward you. "could always carry you bridal style, make sure everyone see's me do it too. make a lesson for the whole platoon"
"i can walk back to the room just fine, captain." you are NOT blushing. maybe, it's the late hour, maybe it's all the feelings he's been hiding for weeks.
"oh i know," he's walking closer, "but i'd be doing you a disservice by not properly escorting you back to your room right? what kind of captain would i be then?"
"you don't have to carry me...holding my hand is enough." that. oh, isn't that a bit too...initiate? too close? he didn't expect you to suggest something so innocent and somehow more personal.Â
ah, crap, you messed it up didn't you? the playful banter, you're not the best at reading things and your own feelings for captain umemiya have never been hidden well according to your platoon member suo. shit, you always do this, going one step too far ahead. captain umemiya is a sweet guy, talented, friendly, playful. h-
you both speak at the same timeÂ
"sorry, i didn't--"
"sorry that...made me nervous." Â he's scratching the back of his head, the tips of his ears dusty red.
huh? THE captain umemiya hajime  being nervous to hold your hand? you tilt your head in confusion. but he's...held in such high regard. shaken so many hands, held so many peoples hands... he takes out monsters for a living and somehow is nervous to...hold you hand? your brain does not understand how that is even mildly scary to him.Â
umemiya watches your face, gosh you're so easy to read. he's always liked that about you. despite being a highly lauded military situation, you don't hide your confusion. "yeah, i know, the great captain umemiya hajime can exterminate a whole 20ft beast by himself but holding a cute girl's hand? scary."
what cute girl? what's he talking about? "you need, practice? i can help you practice. then you'll be ready to hold that cute girls hand." you reply so earnestly. if you can help him in anyway, you're going to do it.Â
his eyes widen at your offer, Â did you not catch the hint that the cute girl is you? Â do you not realize, you're the only girl in the room? "you wanna practice, hand-holding?" Â his tone is half bemused.
you hold your hand out, wiggling the fingers, "take it, practiceee, my hands are extra soft." what are you doing, what are you doing, be still your beating heart because clearly you've lost your god damn mind.
your hand is small as fuck compared to his, umemiya eyes the outstretched hand with consideration. he's actually going to do this, with you? Â
he's held so many hands in his life, and yet none jolt through him like this. like you're plugged into a 14V battery.Â
"see, nothing to be nervous about." you give his hand a light squeeze. "that cute girl is gonna be so swooning over you in no time captain!"
you're the cute girl stupid, he wants to say. totally convinced lieutenant tsubaki was right, he's going to have to spell out his feelings in a letter, email, text and phone call for you to understand. he's doesn't inject himself training plans or doctors appointments for everyone.
he's suddenly aware of the calloused palm and fingertips from years of handling assault rifles, and electric blades. your skin feels so delicate, smooth, unharmed. the way your fingers intertwine with his look pretty.Â
"feels nice, yeah?"
"i guess." he squeezes. "your hands are way softer than i thought they'd be."
"of course, tsubaki told me to take care of them now, otherwise they'll be like kaji."
umemiya chuckles at that, knows exactly what you're talking about "yeah, his are as rough as sandpaper, aren't they?"
"they are captain, they are. despite all my attempts to get him to use lotion too. he rather suffer with dry hands."Â
"you tired to get him to use lotin? i admire your spirit." so you are entirely reckless like hiragi told him. kaji is someone most avoid and approach with extreme caution.
"well once i knew how dry they were," you move a hand to your cheek, "gosh i can still feel his hand, it was like getting hit with a sharp rock, i thought my skin would bleed. but once i knew, i had to intervene."Â
his frown is instant, his brain is stuck on the fact that at some point, kaji's hand has made contact with your face. and it was not friendly. Â "your hands are kinda rough too..."
you pull his hand up, examining the rough rigids with your own delicate fingers. you keep your nails neat and short, it seems umemiya does too. you're tracing each of his fingers when he barely whispers, Â "yeah...occupational hazard and all..."Â
you smile up at him, "i can bring you my favorite hand cream. it shouldn't be too hard to heal these", you still trace your fingers softly over the palm of his hand, "definitely not as bad as kaji"
umemiya's heart is running a marathon, he's trying to stop the shivers running down his spine. you're looking so tenderly at his hand, in such awe and care. he should end this, he's your captain, you report up to him. and yet, he doesn't want your touch to stop.Â
"yeah? think it's possible for this old things?"
"not old captain"
"fine, well seasoned," you click your tongue at that, he corrects himself with a, "aged like fine wine."
"not even seasoned."
"what? am i still in the pinnacle of my youth?"
"maybe."
"okay, then what's that make you? a toddler?"
"hey!" you push his hand back.Â
"just an observation. you look like you're barely able to walk."Â
you're feeling playful, "oh and somehow i was recruited by the great captain umemiya hajime for his super duepr elite extermination team. a job many have applied for an failed."
"well i know you'd be competent and reliable. maybe i have a soft spot for toddlers."
he's making you pout with that, you should be happy he's back to that normal, playful side. but you don't like being teased, you don't like how much his laughter makes your heart dance.
"what? don't like being called a toddler? how about little one or baby girl then?"
he..what? oh, maybe he doesn't know. he started his military career pretty young and all, you've never heard about him dating before you joined either, it's only natural you help and correct your captain. Â "that's a team of endearment captain, call that cute girl whose hand you wanna hold that."
god you're so frustrating. umemiya could convince platoom member sugishita and sakura to form a beach vollyball duo before he gets who the cute girl is through your head.Â
"i'm just teasing."
"oh, were you baby boy?" there! ha! you...you just called your CAPTAIN baby boy. abort abort abort. clearly the pain medication is on overdrive (it's not you forgot to take it) and your feelings of him are not being contained.
he chokes on air, what .....he uses your laugh as a cover while he tries to reclaim his composure, despite his own cheeks burning.
it is amusing to see him flustered. Â he's almost boyish now in a way you haven't gotten to see before. it makes you want to steal this moment, keep it all for yourself. Â all because of a teeny tiny baby boy remark. Â oh god, is he going to say you acted out in subordination and force you on desk duty?Â
but it's funny right, it was a joke right?Â
you can, joke with your captain?
he runs a hand through his hair, messing up his bangs. "you're enjoying this a bit too much aren't you."
"its a rare sight, you can't blame me if i want it all for myself." can you STOP talking.
the fuck are you trying to give him a heart attack for? you can't say things like that so readily. you wanna be the only one to see him like this? flustered and embarrassed and... "well consider yourself lucky."
"oh, i am so blessed." stop, right now, you need to stop talking.
he laughs, two can play this game. he takes a step closer, bodies nearly touching, brings your hand to his chest, placing it over his heart. the thin material of his shirt does little to hide the rapid beating underneath. "feel that?"
is that...you push against his chest, is that normal? oh my god he looks red in the face too, "...captain are you...are you okay do you need water?" you know he's known to overexert himself. holy crap is he in pain?
"hmm...i think its something serious." oh shit, and you missed all the signs! you gasp in alarm, eyes looking up at him with worry he knows he was someone good and kind in his past life. to have you care for him so easily.Â
he leans in close, whispering "i think you make me a little nervous."
"me?"
umemiya nods, eyes on you, bringing his free hand to rest at your him, touch firm, careful. when did he get so close? you can feel the wall behind you scrapping your elbows, when did you back into this?
"you make oh so nervous cute girl."
"captain umemiya..." his name rolls off your tongue like silk. he claims the distance between you two, body pressing against yours, one moving to wrap around your wasit, breath warm against your ear "call me hajime."
anyone can walk in. anyone can see this and..."captain umemiya hajime."
he shakes his head, "no, just my name."
the look he has is so intense, "captain hajime"
he shivers at the sound of his name dripping from your lips, voice honey sweet and soft. Â "yeah, like that. just drop the captain, say it again."Â
you're blushing, your captain! your crush! the one you've admired for years, here, like this, burning desire in his eyes, for you. it can't be, can it?
ever observant, umemiya picks up the nervousness, one of his hands wanders up to your cheek, gently caressing it with his thumb, "just a name, nothing to be nervous about." Â
god, you're the cutest fucking thing. doe-eyed and blush cascading down your cheeks and neck. his eyes meet yours with "say it. my name."
umemiya inhales so sharply, Â he's leaning so close to you, waiting, eager, "hajime"
trapped, happily, between the wall and his broad frame, he leans his forehead against yours, eyes closed. "again" he whispers, voice thick with need.
you swallow hard and whisper "hajime."
he leans forward, captures your lips in his, urgent, commanding, needy.
surprise hits you because if this is dream, never let it end. you've wanted him so bad and this, please let this be real. a tiny whimper before his demanding lips pull you back to this moment, back to him. Â you relax into the kiss. it has him moving your against your mouth with even more intensity. has he always been this passionate about you?
umemiya presses into you harder, pushing you further against the wall, hands roaming over your body, hungry. and you're equally starved for him, pulling him in, crowding into his space.Â
a hand in his messy hair, you swear he's growling, fuck, more more more. umemiya, caught in the moment, moves one hand around the back of your thigh and lifts -- you flinch and let out a gasp of pain.Â
FUCK, that's your left leg right?Â
umemiya breaks the kiss, "sorry, are you okay, did i make it worse?"
this man is too beautiful and you need to breathe, you push at him with no effort, he loosens his grip and moves back. "i couldn't... tell..."
"i'm so sorry, i got carried away. i didn't mean to hurt--"
"hurt for just a second, nothing...nothing serious." with smile you're dispelling all his worry, all his tension. the late hour catching up with both of you now.Â
reality settling back, the fire gone. you're in the training room, door wide open. Â "let me walk you back, yeah?"
he's scratching the back of his neck, doesn't want this to end but, shit, he's unsure. his position, his presence, what if it's all in his head, but your hand on his face, thumb on his lips and eyes looking up at him like that
"you'll hold my hand?" but you make no motion to move away from him, pull him back into you, lips finding his again.
yeah, it's not in his head.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Epilogue 1
The week passed more quickly than you anticipated. You pulled an all-nighter to draft the language you promised. It helped that you couldnât sleep anyways. You tried to make up for it on the twenty-hour flight from Brazil to Abu Dhabi but again, rest evaded you. It didnât help that between the travel and the time difference you basically lost a day and a half. You threw yourself deeper into your work as a distraction. You were thankful that there were lots of back and forths of redlines, as expected.
But no matter how busy you kept yourself, you couldnât stop thinking about that damn kiss that had now been tattooed in your mind. You wished it wasnât good. You wished he had chapped lips and tasted like onions. But it had enveloped you. The way he grabbed you and the feeling of his stubble on your face set off butterflies in your stomach and other places down south. You were pretty sure you saw through space and time and you suddenly had the ability to hear colors.
And even though the kiss was so good, it was made bittersweet by everything that was discussed afterwards. You didnât miss the warmth leaving his eyes and his obvious disappointment. On one hand, you handled the situation the best way you knew how. You had been very clear in Mexico on the limits of your relationship, that should not have been a surprise to him. Your job was to be professional and you reestablished those boundaries. On the other, you had somehow removed every laugh line from his face. You missed the crinkles around his eyes and the reverberating bravado of his laugh. If there was another way you could have gone about the conversation, it was lost on you. Leaning into the kiss and those feelings surrounding it was legally impossible. He would simply have to pick up his bruised ego and move on, which you were sure wouldnât be difficult. The thought helped you somewhat â he was still a handsome, charismatic celebrity who could get any girl he wanted. You were one piece of parsley in an endless buffet. Poor little rich boy couldnât have the one dish he wanted right now, but as soon as the season was over and you went your separate ways, you would be a distant memory he would laugh at in retrospect. Amongst the models, actresses, singers, and influencers he could pick from, he had trauma bonded with his very average and nerdy lawyer during a particularly vulnerable point in his life.
As your thoughts meandered during the course of the long flight, you were appreciative that you would not be on your own this weekend. The partner apparently decided to show up in Abu Dhabi, finally making Daniel a priority knowing that the matter would be closing. You had gotten somewhat frustrated with Joe, that he kept cancelling on meetings last minute leaving you to deal with everything. There were several silver linings, however. First, you hoped it meant he trusted you with the significant responsibility, which again would likely lead to a positive performance review and a hefty bonus. It may even come in handy a few years from now when you would become eligible to make partner yourself. Second, in picking up that responsibility, you had grown a lot professionally in the last few months. Belgium felt like a lifetime ago, in more ways than one. In the last few restless days your mind kept reflecting back to that first race weekend when you were full of nerves, but lately you didnât quite feel like the same young associate with a chip on her shoulder and something to prove. Third, for better or worse, you grew to know you client in a way you would not have been able to but for the partnerâs absence and that transfer of duty. Because you knew him so well now, you were better able to represent him. This was, of course, a double-edged sword. Youâd unintentionally gotten to know the driver far better than you intended. Over the course of months, he poked little holes in your armor leaving you open and vulnerable and inching you closer towards that delicate line you dared not cross. The two of you had danced around it for weeks. If you hadnât crossed it before, kissing certainly pushed the two of you over the edge together. You wondered what he thought about all this, considering he had far less to lose from the predicament. It would probably be awkward the next time you saw each other, but hopefully still respectful and professional if nothing else.
-
Meanwhile, Daniel along with the rest of the grid arrived in Abu Dhabi a day early to have a retirement dinner party for Seb. Seb had been unexpected source of support during this uncertain time in his career. Not all of the drivers had reached out to him when news about his early termination with McLaren broke. Of those that did reach out, some were simply surface level exchanges lacking compassion and depth. Seb, however, had helped him navigate a slew of existential crisis. The least Daniel could do was return that support to his friend. He sat next to Lando and Pierre, the drivers chatting amongst themselves during the meal. Of course there was a general curiosity about his plans for next year, but he playfully remained tight-lipped. The conversation was light, reminiscing and debriefing on some of the post-race debauchery over the course of the season. It was all fun and games until Pierre brought up Halloween in Mexico and his failed attempts at bringing home an instragram influencer and a model that night.
âI think I might be losing my touch. But that was a fun night though, yeah?â
âIt was, Iâm surprised you remember most of it,â Daniel teased.
âHonestly, me too. That girl dressed as you, she was a good time.â Daniel did his best to remain casual, though his heart skipped at beat at your mention.
âYeah, y/n is fun when sheâs not working.â
âIâve seen her around the paddock a few times. Sheâs your lawyer, right?â He took a long drink, not liking the direction the conversation was headed.
âYeah.â
âMaybe when the season is over I can grab her number.â It was more of a statement than a question. Daniel feigned ignorance at the request and laughed.
âI mean I can give it to you, but she probably wouldnât be able to help you.â
âHow so?â Pierre looked at Daniel, both men visibly confused.
âI mean Iâm no lawyer myself, but wouldnât it be a conflict of interest for her?â
âOh no dude, I donât want her services â or, uh legal services I should say,â he said cheekily. Danielâs ears immediately turned red, his jaw clenched, and hand balled into a fist. He did his best to control his facial muscles to not let on to the fact that Pierre had unknowingly stepped on an emotional landmine. Lando, who had been talking to Zhou across from him, sensed the shift in the driver sitting next to him. He diverted his attention for a moment to try to break the tension before Daniel could say or do something he would regret.
âPierre, sheâs way too smart for you and youâre not her type,â he said casually, earning a laugh from the others including Pierre.
âWhat are you talking about, Iâm everybodyâs type,â he said with a smirk.
âYeah, I think that might be part of the problem,â Lando responded. âPlus, youâre already in a committed relationship with this one,â jabbing his thumb in the direction of Yuki. That side of the table continued to laugh and joke, Daniel included, but he didnât miss the chance to lock eyes with his teammate to silently convey his thanks for discreetly deflecting the conversation away from the woman that had taken up so much space in his mind. Had he really almost punched his friend at a fancy restaurant during his mentorâs retirement party? He was in deep. Hook, line, and sinker. Â
Daniel had bought himself more time extending the signing with Red Bull, but he had no idea what he was doing. You had made it abundantly clear that nothing could happen until after everything was signed. You also hadnât explicitly said whether you wanted anything to happen afterwards... All he knew, whether or not anything progressed further between the two of you, he just needed to be near you. He needed more time with you, beyond Monday.
The evening continued with heartfelt sentiments exchanged, and Daniel found himself more and more in his feelings especially as the drinks flowed. He thought he recovered from Pierreâs comments at dinner, but then Seb gave a speech to the rest of grid that brought him to the brink of tears. His mentorâs goodbye made him reflect and contemplate his own journey over the year. Though neither driver would be on the grid next season, Daniel was envious that Seb had the opportunity to leave the sport on his own terms compared to the lack of agency he felt with his tenure with McLaren. Feeling unmoored, you showed up out of nowhere to turn his ship around at the eleventh hour. He wasnât sure what was next for him, but he knew he couldnât do it without you by his side. Maybe another drink would take his mind off you.
The night continued, one by one the other drivers called it a night. But Daniel stayed until the wee hours of the morning with some of the younger drivers who had higher tolerances. Lando took note of his teammateâs condition who refused to believe he couldnât keep up. They hadnât discussed the elephant in the room, but he could put two and two together even if he didnât have all the details. You might have been discreet, but Daniel was anything but. He noticed how Daniel perked up just a little on the days you had meetings. He noticed the stupid looks you gave each other, each party oblivious to the other. He noticed all the times you went out with the drivers at Danielâs invitation, which was surely not in your job description. And right now for whatever reason likely involving you, Daniel was miserable, his melancholia exasperated by alcohol.
âHey mate, I think itâs time to go back to the hotel,â Lando said as he put an arm around Daniel.
âNooo, but weâre having fun! For Seb!â Daniel slurred as he held up his drink triumphantly.
âWe are having fun, but we have to get up really early. Remember?â
Daniel was too tired to fight back. So he pouted as Lando corralled him into the backseat of the car back to the hotel.
-
You rolled into Abu Dhabi at 2am. You were exhausted. You had no shame about rocking under eye patches and a face mask mid-flight to at least hopefully make it look like youâd gotten some type of rest over the last two days. Unfortunately, the dark circles that remained begged to differ.
You were in the middle of checking in when you heard commotion in the lobby behind you. You rolled your eyes at the drunks stumbling in, keeping your head down to avoid any interaction.
âThatâs it, almost there mate.â You knew that voice. You slowly turned to find Lando struggling to guide a dazed Daniel towards the elevator. You rubbed your eyes and blinked a few times to make sure you were seeing clearly. That made you wake up.
âLando? Daniel?â
Both drivers looked your way. You suddenly became very aware and self-conscious of your grungy airport outfit: messy bun, no makeup, and full Enchante sweatsuit Daniel had gifted you after Japan. You couldnât decipher the look Lando gave you that was equal parts relieved and concerned, but Danielâs face lit up immediately showing off those darn dimples.
âY/n!â
âHi. What are you guys doing?â you asked hesitantly. It was mostly directed at Lando since he still had his wits about him, but Daniel answered anyways. Â
âWe had to say goodbye to Seb,â he said solemnly. Lando rolled his eyes seeing the immediate look of concern and confusion on your face.
âJesus Christ. The guyâs retiring, he didnât die.â
You gave a polite smile. âIâm sorry, I think Iâm missing something.â
âThe whole grid had a retirement party for Seb, not a funeral as this one might have you believe. It started with dinner but some guys stayed out and well⊠heâs just been slightly overserved.â You pursed your lips together to keep from laughing. You could tell Landoâs patience had run thin, but despite his annoyance he had made sure Daniel got back safe which you appreciated.
âWell, thank you for taking care of my client.â
âI donât know what youâre talking about, Iâm fine,â Daniel slurred a few feet away, leaning against a pillar in the opulent lobby â immediately followed by him almost slipping but quickly catching himself. He smiled again, proud and satisfied with his own rescue effort.
âRightâŠâ you drawled. You turned to the concierge who had been patient and stoic as the scene unfolded. Youâd been informed that the hotel catered to Westerners, but you were still cautious being in a country that technically followed Sharia law despite the many exceptions for expats and tourists. âMy apologies maâam, is it ok if I help escort my friend to his room for a moment? I can finish checking in afterwards.â
âOf course Miss l/n. Iâll still be here.â Having the green light to accompany the two boys, you and Lando flanked Daniel linking your arms through his to walk him to the elevator.
âI donât need help,â *hiccup* âIâm a strong, independent woman,â he said, though he did nothing to resist your assistance.
âYou are maybe half of those things,â you retorted.
âThatâs being generous, I give him zero out of three,â Lando chimed in.
âOh be nice, you know you can feel those muscles,â you lightly countered as you gave Danielâs bicep a quick squeeze. You gave him a tired, playful smile and the look he returned you was so full of adoration it felt like your heart was going to burst at the seams. He leaned his head on your shoulder when you stepped in the elevator and you wished you could put the moment on pause to keep him there a while longer.
âYou canât possibly be referring to these chicken wings,â Lando replied. âDo you have your room key?â Lando asked Daniel, breaking your daze. Daniel shuffled for a second, patting his pockets, then nodding in confirmation. âGood, Iâm going to bed.â He pressed the floor for himself, then Danielâs.
âIâm sorry, what?â Lando gave you a knowing smile.
âI already did 90% of the heavy lifting, Iâm sure you can handle it from here.â You shot daggers his way, Daniel still between the two of you, blissfully unaware of your quarrel. âSee you in seven hours,â he said as he got off the elevator.
You sighed as the elevator doors closed, leaving the two of you alone. Daniel was too drunk to feel awkward about the predicament given how you last left things, a lazy smile still on his face. Â Â Â
âYou called me your friend. To the concierge.â
âI did.â
âI thought I was your client.â
âThe two arenât mutually exclusive.â He hummed in response. The answer seemed to make him happy. His eyes grazed over you, his smile growing. Â
âYouâre wearing my clothes.â
âAn astute observation.â
âThey look good on you.â The elevator doors opened as a blush crept to your face. You guided him into the hallway and ignored his comment.
âOk, what number are you?â
âThis way,â he said, ignoring your question and yanking you to the right. You kept your arm around him to steady his swaying. You could smell the alcohol coming off him, making you wonder about the events leading up to this but whatever it was wasnât a conversation for today. He finally stopped in front of a door and fumbled with his pockets. You waited to make sure he could get into his room, but after a minute or two you got concerned.
âI can go back to the concierge to get another key-â
âNo, no, I got it.â You watched as he fished it out from the depths of his front pocket, then struggled with getting it to work on the fob.
âHere, let me help you.â Your own patience running low, you took the key from his hands and opened the door. You had planned on finishing your check-in when you knew he made it inside, but felt bad leaving him in the condition he was in. You reasoned that it was to help him avoid a hangover in the morning so that he would be as camera ready as possible for press day, but it was a loose excuse.
You cautiously entered his room and turned on some lights. Your jaw dropped for a moment â his room was at least triple the size of every other hotel room you had stayed at over the course of the season, every detail pristine. You held the door open for him as you ogled in the foyer. He pinballed off the door frame to make his way inside, leaning against the wall across from you. He openly took you in, admiring how his merch hung from your body more perfectly than he ever could have imagined. He didnât turn away when you returned his gaze.
âCome on letâs get you tucked in, you have a long day tomorrow â or in six and a half hours.â You grabbed his arm again and brought him towards the bed, and he happily followed you like a puppy. You were relieved he was at least cooperating. You sat him down. âOk sir, where do you keep your pajamas?â He gave you a wicked grin.
âI donât wear any,â he said shamelessly. You pursed your lips, you knew you walked into that one.
âOf course you donât. Well when I leave you can get undressed. Just sit tight for a sec.â You opened up the bottle of water by the coffee maker and poured it into a glass. âHere, drink this.â He guzzled the water, so you poured him another. âGood job. How are you feeling?â
âBetter now that youâre here.â He showed off his pearly whites with a giant smile, closing his eyes as his head flopped back.
Oh my God, youâre so drunk, you said under your breath. âIâm serious, do you feel nauseous at all? Headache?â
âIâm peachy,â he said as he swung his legs back and forth off the bed. He played with his hands in his lap. Seemingly able to entertain himself at least for a minute, you walked into the bathroom to go through his toiletries to find some Advil and maybe some tums for the morning. When you returned, your patient was already taking off his shirt and had started undoing his belt.
âWoah, woah, woah, slow down there tiger. Why donât you take two Advil first?â
âIâll do anything you tell me,â he said before swallowing the pills you handed him. âIâm going to miss you when you leave.â His sudden shift in tone threw you off. You sat down next to him to show your support and solidarity.
âYou know you can always call me. It will be like I never left.â
âAs a friend?â he asked hopefully. You smiled and put a reassuring hand on his thigh.
âYes, definitely as a friend.â There was a pause.
âWhat about as more than a friend?â *hiccup* âLike, afterwards?â You bit your lip, but smiled.
âI think thatâs a conversation for another time.â
âYou didnât say no.â You laughed.
âYouâre drunk as a skunk and this is the moment you choose to dissect semantics.â He picked up your hand resting on his thigh, bringing it to his lips to kiss without breaking eye contact.
âEnchante.â
âThat doesnât even make sense, but it sure is charming as heck,â you said between laughs. You pulled your hand back and stood up. âOn that note, I think you have everything you need so Iâm going to head out. You have two more ibuprofen on your nightstand for the morning and two tums in case you get heartburn or an upset stomach. I set your alarm for 8:00 so you can sleep in a little, but still gives you an hour to get ready before you need to head to the paddock. I think itâs ok if youâre fashionably late.â He pouted. âOh come on now, no need to frown. You get to take off those pants and go to bed. Iâm going to go to bed too.â
âYouâre sure you donât want to stay?â He gave the best puppy eyes he could. Matched with his bare torso, six pack on full display, and unbuttoned belt and pants, anyone with a weaker constitution wouldâve folded immediately. But at this point you were a trained soldier, the end of your internal battle in sight. You did make one concession though.
Maybe it was impulse. Maybe it was the jet lag. Maybe it was the possibility he wouldnât remember any of it in the morning. But in a streak of boldness, you brought your hand to the side of his face, feeling the sharpness of his jawline and the texture of his stubble. You bent down and gave him a kiss on the cheek. âMaybe next time,â you murmured, your lips ghosting over his.
His eyes were flying saucers when you stood. âGood night, Daniel. Get some rest.â
Despite how tired he was, it was hard for him to fall asleep after that.

Unemployed Promo Post
Hey y'all, I'm Moss, a queer game designer who heads Brewist Tabletop Games. Late December, I quit a toxic job environment when my mental health was at its lowest. I fortunately had a big game launch just before I did, but I've now been out of work for 6 weeks (I've had interviews and I've got some hope!) and it has left me in the red. I'd love if you'd check out my games or boost this to people who might. <3 A notable release I've had is HELLWHALERS, a TTRPG of nautical and Christian-religious horror. Play as damned whalers hunting a leviathan whale in a bid for redemption in this token and d6 based game. There's even a metacurrency with its own gambling mechanic! I also have Rel1ct, a GMless eldritch body horror solo or duet TTRPG inspired by things like Annihilation and The Color Out of Space. Play with cards and dice in a journaling game that TTRPG reviewer/designer Sam Leigh called a "TTRPG that will wreck you". There's also my experimental gridless tactical TTRPG that is a love-letter to JRPGs and weird math, Infinite Reverie. It's only $9 right now, but the 2nd edition is coming this year, and it'll just go up in price from here. It's complete and playable in v1, but the layout is /bad/. Pip, the other half of Brewist Tabletop Games, is working on a gorgeous and fantastic redo of the game, and you'll want to pick it up before that price jumps! You can also find a draconic duo of games bundled together, Kn1ght and Dr4kk3n, two games about fighting their own respective terrible dragons, but in two very different ways. Kn1ght is a GMless solo or duo journaling game, the original model rules that Rel1ct was based off. Dr4kk3n is a d4 based dungeoncrawl for 3-4 players and a GM built on Caltrop Core engine, pioneered by designer Titanomachy. Regardless of whether or not you can pick them up, all my games can be found at brewisttabletopgames.itch.io, and as a thanks for looking, I'll be adding a few community copies of each of these games. There are also a smattering of pay-what-you-want and small microgames available on our itch as well.

It is an unforgiving job, working as a photographer. You'd been all over the world taking pictures for exposes, portraits of world leaders, and scenery. You could name a print material with a portrait on the cover and say you'd taken a picture of that kind.Â
It's your first time in New York after six months of working on assignment after assignment for your agency when you're called into your bossâs office and ordered to get a studio ready. You're expecting a shot with supermodels or perfumes. Hell, you've even taken photos of cans of dog food. You're not expecting to hear that the client is the U.S. Navy. Not at all.
The U.S. Navy's recruitment numbers have fallen to an all-time low. They're looking for a propaganda vehicle or five to kickstart recruitment. They've ordered a squadron of pilots to fly to New York and have professional portraits taken. It had been decided it was too risky to have civilian photographers on base, so your company had rented a colossal hangar from the airport for one day. The squadron and their jets would land tonight, and the shoot would happen tomorrow. The information has you reeling and more than a little flustered. The U.S. Navy? As a client? Thatâs huge. This assignment could make or break your whole career. How do you even start? This shoot is on an awfully quick turnaround for something so big.
Your mind is spinning, thinking of how you could make these spreads work. To begin your prep work, you go to your office, collecting your assistant, stylists, makeup artist, and lighting coordinators. Once everyone is clustered around your office, you fire up your computer and display pictures of each aviator. The Navy has selected six aviators for this spread; theyâre all gorgeous. And per the sanitized dossiers you hand out to your team to read, each has risked their lives to serve their country. Of the five men on the dossiers, one keeps catching your attention. His name is Jake, Jake Seresin, and his eyes pierce into you even through the low-quality picture youâve been given.
âAlright. So how do we do this? The Navy asked for shots of each aviator and their plane in flight suits and uniforms. Weâll have all four jets in the hangar with us tomorrow. Additionally, I want to explore who they are as people. So I think weâll also do shots of them in formal wear. As a last step, weâll tie into their sex appeal and do shots of the boys in their flight jackets and dog tags with no shirts. For Lieutenant Trace, I thought we could explore the duality she naturally poses as a highly decorated female Naval Aviator. How does that sound? Any ideas for how we can accomplish that? Start pulling pieces on racks in the bullpen. I want to do a final review of all of the options at 4 oâclock.â
Your stylists, Adam and Lea, are already huddled up and discussing pieces to pull for the formal wear shoot. You can see an unholy gleam in Leaâs eyes as she finds pieces for Lieutenant Trace to wear for the sex appeal shot on her tablet. You grin at their enthusiasm before turning to your lighting techs.
âSeb, Kris. I want you both to head out to the hangar today. I donât know what the lighting is going to look like. Feel free to start setting up the lighting for the shoot tomorrow. But donât lock anything down. Weâre going to have to share our space with the planes.â
You turn to your assistant, Amy.Â
âAmes, go with them. Get an idea of the space we have to deal with. Measurements would be useful. Start visualizing areas where we could lay out a backdrop to do a set of pics without the planes in the background. Scope out everything â the facilities, where we could set up changing booths, a refreshments table, etc. Weâll also probably need to coordinate deliveries from the usual food platters and drinks places. Get an assortment of things that would apply to any dietary restrictions you can think of.â
With that, you turn to the last member of your team, your makeup artist.Â
âHey, Katie. We will want to keep the makeup for this shoot subtle and touch up any blemishes and under-eye circles. That should be it for the boys, but weâll want to do something eye-catching for the formal wear portion for Lieutenant Trace. So pack accordingly. Go ahead if you want, and head to the hangar with Ames so you can coordinate placement for the makeup station.â
You call your team to attention by ringing the small gong on your desk.
âWeâve got a lot of work ahead of us today. Call me for anything you need. This shoot is important for the studio, and we will have many eyes on us. Here are the credentials for the hangar. Measurements for the aviators are included in the dossier packets. For the formal wear portion of the shoot, pick coordinating colors except for Lieutenant Trace. Good luck!â
The rest of your morning is spent coordinating with the Navy Liasion. During your lunch break, you head to the hangar and help your team as they work there. You pick up sandwiches and drinks for everyone and drop some off for Adam and Lea. You reach the hangar at 1:30 and use your credentials to let yourself in. Unsurprisingly, the hangar is a hive of activity. Amyâs marking down placement points near the bathrooms with a measuring tape, and Katieâs getting a vanity plugged in and organizing her equipment.
Meanwhile, Seb and Kris are testing the lighting. A large swath of the Hangar floor is as yet empty. A clear path has been left from the hangar doors to the open area. The open area is where four F/A-18A Super Hornets are going to sit. You call your team to grab their lunches and catch up with Amy on her progress. Itâs your first time delegating so much of the admin work to Amy since sheâs the newest on the team, and youâre ecstatic with her progress.
Sheâs gotten everything organized, including the food and beverage deliveries. When a pair of workmen back in a truck containing the backdrop and the changing rooms, you supervise as they build them and place them where you want them. Theyâve just started assembling the backdrop when your phone rings. You step into the afternoon sunshine to take the call. Itâs the Navy Liasion. Heâs calling to inform you that the squadron will be landing shortly. Sure enough, you can just hear the engines as you hang up and bolt indoors. Amyâs just sending the workmen on their way as you help your team clear the open areas of the hangar and stand near the open hangar door.Â
You can feel the thrum of the engines as Four F/A-18As fly in formation and finally land in all their glory. Theyâre beautiful machines. You can smell the stink of the jet fuel and feel the heat from the engines as they roll into the hangar. The next moments are full of frantic activity as the flight crews help ensure the jets are safely landed. Once all the furor has died down, you finally reach where the aviators have descended from their jets. Theyâre examining your team's work with eagle eyes that dart to your person as you step closer, your heels echoing as you make your way to the jets.Â
Theyâre even more gorgeous than their pictures indicated, even sweaty with helmet hair as they are. As one, they line up in front of you and salute, introducing themselves with their rank, full name, and callsign. You can hear Amy and Katieâs giggles from behind you as you introduce yourself and your team. The entire time you lay out the plan for the following day, you can feel a set of eyes boring into the side of your face. All the aviators are staring right at you, but Lieutenant Seresin makes you feel like squirming. His green eyes stay on you as you show them the different areas in the hangar and explain the order of the day. Thankfully, they leave the hangar shortly after you tell them their call time for the next morning.Â
A couple of hours later, everything is ready to go, thanks to Amy, Seb, Kris, and Katie. The corner near the bathroom has two changing rooms set up. Nearby are spaces for the racks of clothing and the makeup station. It will be perfect for the photoshoot you have in mind. The concrete floors are a little chilly, so you text Lea and ask her to add some of the rugs from storage to the truck. You send her a snap of the current layout so she and Adam know what theyâre walking into the following morning. You know she and Adam will pick something that complements the gunmetal gray of the planes and the clothing theyâre selecting. Before long, you and your team are packed into the back of two Ubers and heading back to the studio for the final part of your day, evaluating the clothing Adam and Lea have picked.
Youâre satisfied as you head home that night. Your team has done an amazing job, and the only thing you have to do is pack your cameras and lenses. You carefully wipe and pack each lens and each camera, working as quickly as possible since you have to be at the hangar with an early 6 AM call time. Amyâs picking up the coffee and breakfast deliveries at 7, and the Squadron will show up at 8 AM sharp.
When your alarm goes off at half past four the next morning, you feel barely rested. Your hair is a birdâs nest atop your head, and your eye bags could put a raccoon to shame. But youâve got a busy day ahead of you, so you gulp a scalding cup of coffee and walk zombie-like into your shower. Forty-five minutes later, youâre dressed in a smart blouse and pencil skirt with heels on your feet and bleary but ready to face the day. Youâve thrown your hair into a French braid snaking down your back and left your makeup and jewelry simple to avoid causing unforeseen sparkles and shadows when Kris and Seb turn the lights on.
Your team has just reached the hangar when you step in. All the lights are on in the early morning haze, and youâre immediately swept up in the preparations. Itâs like youâre needed everywhere. You only get fifteen minutes to lay out your camera equipment and hook up the cameras to your laptop before youâre pulled into last-minute adjustment after last-minute adjustment. It feels like barely any time has passed when the aviators swagger through the open hangar door. Theyâre dressed in khaki uniforms, each holding a hanger with a leather flight jacket.
Adam and Lea direct them to leave their garment bags on an open rack, and youâre off to the races. You start with individual shots of each aviator with their plane and then against the backdrop. Youâve cued up a playlist of Top-40 hits, and you canât help humming along as you snap away. As expected, it takes a bit for the aviators to warm up to being photographed. Two, Lieutenants Bradshaw and Seresin, take to posing for the camera like a fish out of water. Lieutenant Fitch follows shortly after them. Then all you needed to get Fanboy to cut loose was get him talking about his favorite tv show. You donât mind the onslaught of Star Trek facts and figures because Lieutenant Mickey Garcia is adorable once you get him smiling and dancing to the songs playing.Â
That leaves you with Lieutenants Trace and Floyd. Lieutenant Floyd goes next, and the first thing he does when he sees you holding the camera is blush. The bashful look on his face makes a soft squeal slip out of Amyâs mouth, and you side-eye your assistant with your fiercest glare to get her to chill out. Thankfully, Lea drags her away to help with some of the clothing. Thereâs no need to make the sweetheart even more uncomfortable. Much like Lieutenant Garcia, you try to get him talking. And it works, at least until Lieutenant Seresin opens his mouth and says,
âCâmon, Baby On Board. A pretty girlâs taking your picture, and you canât even smile? This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, at least for you. You should enjoy it while it lasts.â
You can feel your blood pressure rising at how rude he is and are about to open your mouth to tell him to get out of your field of vision when Lieutenant Floyd does it himself.
âWhy, Bagman? Are you afraid that if I start posing for real, all the girls will dump you as fast as possible for me instead?â
You have to stifle your giggles as Lieutenant Seresin blinks wide-eyed at Lieutenant Floyd before walking away.Â
âThatâs a great idea, Bob!â Lieutenant Trace is never one to leave an opportunity to cheer on her WSO.
Thatâs what breaks the ice between you and Lieutenant Floyd. You feel his solo plane shots have turned out better than the others. The final aviator in uniform to photograph is Lieutenant Trace. But no matter what you do, you canât get her to loosen up.Â
âAlright, everyone. Letâs take fifteen. Adam and Lea, can you get the Lieutenants in their formal wear while I finish up with Lieutenant Trace?âÂ
That clears the gentlemen away and leaves you and Lieutenant Trace by the planes. Thatâs when you finally see a fraction of the tension she holds in her shoulders drain away. Sheâs still standing stiffly but no longer in full parade rest. You turn the music up, put on ABBA, and pray that the music finally gets her to unwind. It takes a bit, and Lieutenant Bradshaw, now wearing a navy blue tuxedo, wiggling his hips to the beat but unwind she does. He gives you a wink before shimmying away. You can see the rest of your team laughing as the aviators pull out their silliest dance moves.Â
After finishing up Lieutenant Traceâs final uniform pictures, you leave her in Lea and Katieâs capable hands and start taking the solo shots of the men. Theyâre all dressed in navy blue tuxedos with white shirts and shiny black dress shoes. There isnât a tie in sight, and the jackets are perfectly tailored to their figures. You canât help the impressed looks you give them and mentally note to compliment Lea and Adam later. Everything is going well until you start to see slack-jawed looks where the lieutenants had been smoldering into the camera. You turn and grin satisfactorily as Lieutenant Trace steps forward. Lea had selected a gorgeous crimson and burgundy gown, and Katie had chosen to leave her hair in loose curls. Youâre not surprised at the boysâ awe. She looks breathtaking and like her callsign in all its fiery glory. The contrasting color combinations as she joins the boys look fantastic in the pictures.Â
The final set of pictures happens after a lunch break. The gentlemen are only too eager to slip off their shirts, though you can hear Bob pleading with Lea to spare him. You wish him luck, as you know from experience that Leaâs not one to give in easily. The only other aviator who looks discomfited is Lieutenant Trace. You pull her aside.
"Lt. Trace. How would you feel about doing a shot wearing just one of the men's jackets, some heels, and jewelry? You donât have to wear one that one of the guys has worn today. Lea and Adam brought plenty of spares."
"Please, call me Natasha. And no. I'm not doing that."
"Natasha, I have a feeling I know why, but would you tell me?" Her shoulders surround her ears as you try to reason with her.
"I'm not going to wear that just to act as the sole piece of eye candy in this group. I got here by working just as hard, if not harder, than all of them. I won't negate all my hard work with a pin-up pose on Navy propaganda."
"Thank you for telling me that. I'm not going to pressure you into doing this. But, I would like to bring one item to your consideration. You think taking a picture like this will negate your hard work. Doesn't that negate your inherent sense of femininity? You're a fighter pilot. Yes. One of the best of the best. But you're also a woman. And to me, that's one of your biggest strengths. Girls walking into Navy recruitment offices deserve to know they can be kick-ass officers and beautiful too.â
You take a breath, cataloging the emotions flitting across her face.
âI'm not asking you to do this shot because you're beautiful. As we both know, you are. I'm asking you to do this shot to show the world that you can be one of the best and still be feminine. Be strong and delicate. Sweet and savage. I want you to show the world that serving your country doesn't mean you have to only act like men. Women can serve and do everything that a man can without compromising anything. Be it their looks, their career, or their femininity."
Your words have resonated with her. You can see the figurative light bulb go off in her head as she resolutely nods, gathers up the skirts of her gown, and walks right towards Lea like a woman possessed. You grin and proceed with taking shots of the others. But this time, itâs Lieutenant Seresin that youâre having problems with. Heâs stiff like his charm has melted away. You switch to the others and finish their shots easily. Even Natasha stuns in just the oversized blazer. You take a break and review the pictures on your laptop. Theyâre all perfect. Youâll need a day or so to clean up any small defects, but other than that, theyâre exactly what you were looking for. The Navy will be pleased with the results, you hope.
You just need this one set of pictures from Lieutenant Jake Seresin, callsign Hangman, and you can finally go home and take off your heels and bra. Your irritation grows as you attempt to take the pictures you need five times. Your groan of exhaustion and irritation is far longer and louder than it should be. Thatâs when you start dismissing your team and the Daggers.
âHead on out, all of you. We have to clean up the hangar by the day after tomorrow when the Daggers leave. I will finish up these photos with Lieutenant Seresin, and we should be following you shortly.â
The Daggers all scramble to change, and it's less than half an hour later when you say farewell as the Daggers and your team file out the Hangar door and close it behind them. Thatâs when youâre left alone with the one man whoâs been driving you crazy all day. You try, futilely, to get him to pose how you want, but no matter what you say and how you move him, the pictures don't turn out like you want them to.Â
Partway through the latter half of the photo shoot, you'd switched to having all of the Daggers standing against the backdrop. You're regretting that decision now.Â
You're done, and the blonde idiot is just standing there and smirking at you. In the studio light, you can see every ridge of his abs and the downy hair dotting his torso. You kick your heels off and let your hair out of its braid. After so long in the tight braid, it feels great to let your scalp relax.
You stalk up to Lieutenant Seresin and grab hold of his arm.
"Right. Let's make this easy on both of us. I will position you how I want you, and you won't move. Okay?"
"Darlin', just tell me to jump, and I'll ask you how high."
And now he's trying to flirt with you. Great. You roll your eyes and position his head and arms as you want him. This close, you can smell his cologne, the cedar and plum scent wafting from his skin. It's an expensive scent that is ever so inconsistent with his personality. Thankfully he doesn't fight you as you position him.Â
You could cry. You're so relieved. You are finally getting the needed pictures, and Lieutenant Seresin is cooperating. His eyes still track you as you stalk barefoot back and forth from the laptop to the lights, all with your camera in tow as you make small adjustments. But you don't feel their weight as self-consciously anymore.Â
In the final pose, you press on his stomach to get him to straighten his back, and your entire world seems to freeze. His abs are taut, the light dusting of hair soft against your fingers as you glance up at his face. His lips are bitten red as his eyes peer into you. It's electric being this close to him. Something is yearning in his eyes when you step away and take the final pictures.Â
Your face is hot as you walk back to the table with your laptop and examine the pictures. You're exhausted, but you've finally done it. Of all the pictures, Lieutenant Seresin's looks the best. His photos exhibit strength, passion, and raw sexuality, exposing a stripe of his taut torso and dog tags.Â
"Damn, darlin'. I knew you were a good photographer when I looked up your work before we flew to New York for this, but I had no idea how good you were. These pictures. They're something else."
You startle at his voice, emanating from near your ear, and jolt out of your seat. You nearly fall, but he catches you, steadying you with an arm wrapped around your waist. You gulp as youâre pressed against his chest. He's so close that you can count the flecks of gold swimming in his green eyes. You can't keep your gaze from trailing over his face, from his eyes down to his lips, and back up again.Â
"Sweetheart, tell me if I'm reading you wrong, but it looks like you want to kiss me. And I know I want to kiss you. I have since I saw you for the first time yesterday."
You can't keep yourself from nodding at his words. But he's watching you like a hawk and catches your movements. So it's hardly a surprise when he trails his other hand up your side and pinches your chin before slanting his mouth over yours.Â
He kisses as he flies, you think. Precise and pointed, each brush of his tongue against your calculated to make your cunt clench and throb with need. You're wet, embarrassingly so. He doesn't pull away until your lips are swollen from the rough kiss.Â
Your chest heaves as he traces his finger across your lips. He's got a smug smirk on his face. You pull away from him, carefully selecting your video camera from all your camera equipment, and return to his plane. You turn on the lights, dimming them until there is just enough light to throw the area in the jet's shadow in relief in your camera, hit record, and beckon him to come to you.
"Lieutenant, it's been a bit since I've had some fun. What would you say if I suggest we make a movie?"
His grin is salacious as he lets the leather jacket fall to the ground and tugs you back into his arms.
"Baby, it'd be my pleasure."
Your answering laugh transforms into a moan as he kisses roughly down your throat, paying special attention to your pulse point. His talented hands trail up and down your waist, nimble hands rucking your blouse up from your skirt until he can finally touch your bare skin. Your moans as he traces patterns across your ribs are muffled in his kiss.
"Jake."
Your voice is breathy and high as you try to get his mouth back on yours. But when you look at his face, something is commanding in his gaze.
"Take your shirt off, baby. Let me see what you're wearing."
You tug your shirt off, thankful there aren't any buttons or ties to impede your progress. Jakeâs groan at the sight of the lace covering your breasts sends goose bumps over your skin.
His voice is reverent as he walks around you.
"God, baby. You killed me this morning. Wearing that pretty little skirt and those high heels. I wanted to bend you over and fuck you until you were leaking my cum."
He stops before you, pressing his thumb between your parted lips. He dips it in until it's wet with your pooling saliva and drags it down your throat. His finger drags over the soft flesh of your breasts, leaving a cool, damp trail as he pays special attention to the peaks of your nipples.Â
He continues walking, stopping at your back and dragging you in until your back is flush against his chest. He positions you with both hands until you're centered with the camera. He keeps up a filthy litany of praise as he carefully uses his thumbs to drag your bra cups down, sending your tits spilling free. His hands immediately find their way to fondle and caress them, calloused fingers kneading and squeezing until your hips are canting unconsciously, searching for additional stimulation.Â
His smile is filthy when he finally pulls you away, intertwining your fingers with his and leading you to his plane.
"Put your hands on my plane, baby. And whatever you do, don't take them off."
You can't resist your soft moan as you do exactly what he says after unfastening your bra. You can't see his face, but you can feel his lips in the hollow behind your ear as he grinds his stiff cock against your ass.Â
"Stay there, baby. Gonna take these trousers off so you don't get in trouble if we make a mess."
Your nipples are pebbled in the cool air as you wait for Jake to return to you. You can hear the clink of the belt buckle and the rustle of fabric as he drags the garment off before padding back to you. His hands trail teasingly over your sensitive skin as he brackets your waist. His thumbs rub soothingly at your waist as he peppers kisses across your bare shoulders. Jake then carefully drags the zip at the back of your skirt down and eases it off your hips.
It pools to the ground at your feet, and you shudder at the feeling of his hand on your ass as he collects it and sets it on a chair in your line of sight. He's gorgeous. You can see every line of his muscles and the bulge of his erect cock in his boxers. The only thing you're wearing now is your thong. He slides the flimsy lace off, and that's when you feel his breath across your hole.
"Oh, baby. You're so wet. Wet for your Lieutenant, huh?"
He blows a stream of air over you, and you can feel your hole clench at the sensations.Â
"What do you want me to do to you, baby? How do you want to cum? On my tongue? On my fingers? On my cock? You gotta tell me, sweetheart."
Your voice is breathy as you babble, "All of them, Jake! I want your tongue, your fingers, and your cock. It's been so long since I came. Please!"
He kisses your shoulder before kneeling and burying his tongue between your thighs. Each brush has you practically sobbing with pleasure. It's been so long since you came that it's only a few minutes before his tongue brings you to the brink of your orgasm. You're already chanting his name, your moans echoing through the hangar.
"Cum," he growls, his mouth still sealed to your cunt, and you're only too happy to comply, your hands scrabbling for something to squeeze on as you ride out the waves of your orgasm on his tongue.
He pulls away after a few minutes and turns you around. His mouth is on you instantly, nipping at your breasts before he kisses you hard. You can feel how hard he is against your thigh as you sink to your knees and free him from the constricting fabric.
It's only fair that you return the favor. So you start with kitten licks flicking across the head of his cock. Each tender pass of your tongue has him moaning. It's not long before his hands find their way into your hair, holding the loose strands in a ponytail at the back of your head. You use the extra leverage to begin deep-throating him in earnest. You use as much suction and saliva as possible, moaning wantonly as he fucks your mouth. His pants and grunts send heat pooling into your cunt as he approaches his orgasm. But before you can convince him to come on your tongue, he jerks himself off over your tits, spurting his release over your skin in hot thick ribbons.
There is a feral look in his eyes at the sight of you like that on your knees, and Jake lopes over to your cameras, carefully grabbing one. He drapes his dog tags around your neck and carefully snaps pictures of the pearl necklace he'd given you. He lays the camera onto the chair before coming back to you.
"Do you still want me to fuck you?"
"Yes." Your consent is less words and more a cock-drunk mewl, but Jake interprets it correctly.
"Can you get on all fours for me?"
You're only too eager to comply, positioning yourself under his eager hands as he takes his spot against your ass.
"I don't have any condoms, baby. How do you want to do this?"
"I'm on the pill, Jake. Please, fuck me. Fuck me raw."
He groans before pressing himself inside you. The slow drag of his big cock as it presses into you has your pulse racing. Jake keeps the pace purposefully slow, using his hands at your hips to hold you still as he deliberately fucks into you. It's so good that each press has you screaming, and you've long since reached the cliff of your orgasm. But what Jake's giving you just isn't enough. That's when you start wiggling your hips to meet his thrusts.
The first heavy smack of his palm against your ass has you freezing completely, caught in the pain-pleasure-pain sensation his hand is wringing out of you. The second has you moaning, your pussy fluttering around his length. His groan is near musical as he continues to smack your ass. Each smack brings you closer to your orgasm, and you're practically begging for it now. You wail when he begins to fuck you again in earnest. His balls smack against the hot skin of your ass as you finally let yourself cum.Â
Your orgasm is so strong and intense that you black out. When you come to, you're cradled against Jake's chest, his hand tracing lazily over your back. You're both still under his jet. You prop yourself up on his chest with shaking arms and groan at the sensation of cum dripping out of you. Itâs several long moments before you rise carefully on wobbly legs. But the sight you see when standing has your cunt clenching in need again. Jakeâs torso is now covered in droplets of the mixture of both of your cum. You grab your camera and take a picture of that too.
Jake grins as he collects the bundle of your clothes and follows behind you to the bathroom. You canât help the gasp leaving your lips as you see yourself in the mirror. Heâs marked up your decolletage, and now is when you can feel the painful sting in your ass.Â
âGod, baby. Let me take a picture of your ass? It looks beautiful. You can see my whole hand on it.â
You groan as he presses a kiss against the sore cheek before positioning you and taking the pic. All you can see is the globe of your ass, the handprint, and the cascade of your hair down your back.
âAre you sure you didnât pick the wrong calling, Jake? You couldâve been a fantastic photographer if youâd chosen to.â
âOh, Iâm sure, darlinâ. I love flying too much to regret my decision. And flying brought me to you.â
You grin before beginning to clean yourself up. Jake canât resist kissing you, and you canât resist kissing him back, either. Before long, youâre all clean and dressed in your underwear, blouse, and skirt again. Jake even has your shoes and chivalrously kneels to slide them onto your feet. Heâs back in his trousers, this time sans the leather jacket. You canât resist trailing your fingers across his skin and wrapping your arms around his neck as you kiss him. But you have to break away from him. You only add to his current look by slinging his dog tags around his neck.
Back in the hangar, youâre packing up your cameras after ensuring your home movie is saved when the door to the hangar opens. Itâs a security guard, and youâre glad he didnât pop in earlier.
âHello, miss. I just wanted to check in and make sure everything is alright.â
âYes, everything is fine, officer. I just finished a photo shoot with my last client, and weâll leave shortly.â
"Alright, miss. We have to restrict access to the hangar at 11 pm. It's about 9:30 now, so finish up and head on your way."
You can hear Jake opening the curtain to the changing room behind you and can see the Officer's position stiffen as he catches sight of the medals on his breast.
"Sir, apologies, I wasn't aware that the client she mentioned was military."
He's falling over himself, and you can see the smug smirk on Jake's face as he grins and walks the officer out. You can't help grinning as you finish packing your lenses and begin unplugging your laptop after saving all the footage youâd captured today. You know Jake is back when you feel an arm wrap around your waist. You lean easily back into his expensive-smelling embrace and can't resist sagging against him for a few moments.
"It's been a long day, huh, darlin'?" He presses a kiss against your jaw. "Let's get you packed up and home."
You smile at the new, softer side of him and kiss his jaw.
"I'm all packed up. Walk me to my car?"
"'Course, sugar. Give me your camera bag. D'you need to check on anything else before we head out?"
You pad over to all the electrical outlets, hitting the switches on power strips to ensure nothing is still on. The final place you check via phone flashlight is the area under Jake's jet. You're wearing all of your clothing. You just want to make sure you haven't made a mess with your extracurricular activities.
"I cleaned it all up already, baby. It was when you were knocked out after your orgasm."Â
You startle, having grown used to his presence over the past few hours.
"Then let's head out?"Â
You relinquish your camera bag to him, keeping your oversized tote on your shoulder as the two of you stride out of the hangar. You lead him to the small parking lot to the side and pop the trunk for your car, thankful you'd decided to drive to the airfield.Â
"Let me give you a ride to your hotel. It's the least I can do after keeping you so late."
"Darlin', I should be thanking you. I haven't cum like that in a long time."
You've seen the man completely naked and writhed in pleasure at his touch. You shouldn't be so flustered in his presence. But you can't explain the catch in your breath as he opens the driver's side door for you before loping around to the passenger side and settling in. Everything between you and Jake doesn't feel like the aftermath of a hot frantic sexual encounter. It feels like a date. You feel light and easy as you cruise back into the city. The silence between the two of you is comfortable. Itâs not long before you drop him off in front of his hotel. He presses a kiss against your lips before swaggering in. And you head home to your small New York apartment, feeling the ghost of his presence as you go.
The next morning, youâre glad you chose to work from home because the first pictures you edit are the ones youâd taken of Jake and the ones heâd taken of you as well as your home movie. You canât resist fingering yourself as your moans and his grunts spill out of your computer speakers. You don't have to do much editing there, but you carefully load the incriminating footage onto two flash drives â one for you and one for him. The photos for the Navy, too, are edited in no time flat.Â
It's in the afternoon when you head into the studio. When you get in, you're surprised to see all the Daggers, your boss, your team, and two Admirals waiting for you. Your boss runs the show, introducing and greeting them before the floor is ceded to you. You show the assembled guests the pictures you'd taken for the Navy.Â
The pictures are well received, especially the photos of Lieutenant Trace. You wink cheekily at her as Admirals Simpson and Mitchell praise the juxtaposition of those shots. As you show the last picture, you can finally breathe. Your boss is proud, especially as the Admirals turn to her and approve the pictures. But you have one final set of pictures to deliver.
"Lieutenant Seresin, apologies. I found this in my bag this morning. It was lying in the changing room when I looked through it to ensure everyone had taken their things. It must've fallen out of the pocket of your flight jacket."
His smirk is salacious as he accepts the flash drive from your hand, apologizing for leaving it there. You hand him a note, too, and leave the room. You would pay to see the look on his face when he sees what youâve written on it.
Jake -Â Thanks for last night. Call me the next time you're in New York. I'd love to do it again. It certainly was a photo finish. XXX - XXX - XXXX

So @Astroglide had decided to do another Watch Party after the #ReviewAsACrew theme that was going on. @yronnia was kind enough to notify me of this fantastic review that came up before the party.
So as usual, so many memes (may of the valentine's cards are from @astroglideofficial) and responses came with the latest @Astroglide watch of the episodes 8, 9 , 10 of S1.
And @astroglideofficial's reactions were glorious as expected (reach from bottom up for chronological reactions)
However, as you can imagine, finishing at episode 10 left them where the rest of us were.
Can't wait for them to see Season 2! Hopefully they'll get some of their hope back!

== Love Notes ==
Hey Lovelies <3 I hope that however you celebrated today, (Valentine's Day, Captain Cook's Murder Day, Your Birthday, whatever it happened to be) that you got something positive and fun out of it. I know this day is a mixed bag for a lot of folks, so any way you are able to get something good out of it, I'm excited for. A little gentle reminder, something that took me a lot of years to realise -- you are enough, with or without a partner, I hope you know that. Your partner or lack of one doesn't define you. You are you and you are wonderful and you are enchanting. You could be in the perfect relationship and that other person(s) could bring out the best in you, and yet, the best in you is still you. You shine because you are a beautiful, unique little radiant ball of starstuff, and don't you ever forget it. You deserve just as much love as you give to others, no matter what anyone says, and you deserve to be happy and to be you, just the way you are. Now matter how you feel on any given day, no matter how much energy, or spoons, or love you have for yourself, you are doing enough, and you deserve all the wonderful things this world has to offer. I know I speak for all of us on this safespaceship crew, when I say I hope tomorrow brings you joy, and love, and unhinged laughter. Get some rest babes, love you <3
== Daily Darby / Tonight's Taika ==
Yeah so, since Rhys and Taika already had new footage earlier in the recap tonight. I'm gonna be a sappy little bitch and just show you the same old footage of two gay men kissing because it brings life.

Warnings: Swearing, I think
Genre: Angst/Humor
Word Count:Â 4.9K
<Chapter 2
3. Hmmm...
Two months. Two months was all it took for Voe to get comfortable in Hell. Her lives started taking off, and she was gaining followers every single day.Â
âI like the Hotel, âcuz people are really nice to me. Especially Charlie, sheâs mad nice. Yeah, I made some friends. Iâm friends with Angel Dust now! Yes that Angel Dust, the celebrity! Also, Sinstagram where is my verification?! I believe I fit the requirements! Hmm? Am I just an influencer? I mean I guess so, what else could I even do?â
Maybe get a job you lazy bitch
âMaybe take your own advice you cunt. If you had a job you wouldnât be here bitching on my live. Besides,â Voe laughs âIâm making more money reading you for filth, than you would at any 9 to 5â She gets a kicker out of that.
ever thought about getting sponsored?
âYeah, Iâve thought about being sponsored, but like, brands would have to have to reach out to me, yaâ know?â
yooo the vees do this hiring event thing once every like 4 years or whatever you should do that
âWho are the Vees?â Â

âWhatâs an overlord?â
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you should review velvettes clothes. shes the best
âMmkay girlfriend. Oop gotta go guys. Itâs time for Charlieâs mandatory bonding time for all residents. Hazbin Hotel everyone!â
____________________________________________
âHello everyone,â Charlie looked a bit nervous introducing this time, âIâd like to introduce you all to a very special guestâ Alastor waltzed in and sat adjacent to Charlie âMy dad!â
âGreetings everyone!â Lucifer emerges from behind a large plant, and Alastor squints in annoyance. The King of Hell goes and stands next to his daughter. Voe was taken aback by the beauty of this man, all in fun-sized packaging. He was taller than her, but small is small.
âLike, I said, this is my dad. And heâs going to be around more often to help us take care of the Hotel!â
âI would do anything, to make my little oneâs dream come true. So Iâm joining the crew!â he laughs dryly with his arm around Charlieâs shoulders, and she laughs awkwardly with him
Voe speaks up âCan I just say, that the things I heard about you are true? You truly are the most beautiful angel.â
âWhy thank you,â Lucifer looks smug and takes notice of her. Voe takes notice of Charlieâs apprehension under her fatherâs arm and the lack of enthusiasm when introducing him. His over-the-top manner of behaving and his insistence upon entering his daughterâs personal space were a dead giveaway to a shaky father-daughter relationship. On its way to healing, but not quite there yet.
âMy dad has an idea of a way to better advertise the hotel, so take it away Dadâ She claps for him, and quiet claps follow suit.
âOkay, so I know that my brilliant daughter already thought of this.â He winks at Charlie âBut I was thinking that we could do another commercial, but instead of going through 666 News, we go through the people that control the media! The Vees!â people are now whispering to one another at the mention of the Vees âAnd besides, who would say no to me?â he puffs out his chest
There they were being mentioned again. The Vees.
Voe raises her hand to gain the attention of the crowd âWho are the Vees?â many demons are shocked at her lack of knowledge of the subject, but it was Angel Dust who spoke up.
âAssholes,â was all that he gave, staring daggers into his phone.
âWho here isnât?â She responded
âThe Vees are nothing but talentless, tasteless, and classless crybabies who dare to call themselves entertainers. They are no better than dirt at the bottom of my very well-made dress shoes. Once again, your ideas have fallen flat, Your Majesty.â Alastor spoke, shooting a glare through his tight grin. Voe looked back and forth between the men, instantly picking up on their tension, and formulated a plan off the top of her head.
âThank you for the explanation. However, I do agree that going to the headliners of the media in Hell would be the best way to get our message seen. To expand Charlieâs vision. Also, I honestly appreciate the ability of a primordial angel to be able to keep up with modern timesâ
âAnd compromise ourselves? Out of the question. I suggest we do things the old-fashioned way, like how weâve been doing them. Besides, as the King himself said, weâve done the idea of a commercial before, and look how it turned out.â
âWell, itâs clear that Charlie is unhappy with the results of the âold-fashioned wayâ, seeing as how sheâs currently in the market for ideas at this very moment, so what is necessary is to change something. Do something different. And yes while you may have done a commercial before, youâve never done it like this. This is worth a shot. And we do not have to mingle with these demons personally, only professionally.â She gestures toward Lucifer âPlus, we have the literal King and Princess of Hell with us. What could go wrong?â
Charlie steps in âHey guys, I donât want this to become an argument.â
âI donât see why this needs to be an argument at all. Your father has the superior idea, and thatâs the one that we should do.â Voe is light and airy, using her âpeople pleaserâ voice
âWell, I donât think it would be fair for him to just show up and start telling us what to do when he hasnât been here this whole time. Right Char-â Alastorâs tone is stern
âAnd thatâs why we should do his idea. I mean, look at him, Charlieâ she gestures toward the King of Hell âHeâs so sorry for not being there for you, and heâs trying to make it up. This is how he can make it up, this is how you can show that you forgive him. You do forgive him, donât you Charlie?â
âWell yeah! I-â
âHe knows nothing about the hotel and how we run things here, do you trust him to get involved without guidance?â Alastorâs voice becomes more forceful
âHe will have your impeccable guidance, Charlie. He wants to work with you and be involved with your life. You want your father involved in your lifeâŠright Charlie?â
âOf course! I-â
âSo itâs settled! Weâre going with Your Majestyâs idea then!â Voe swivels her body to face Charlie. She lowers her pitch âRight, Charlie?â
Charlieâs eyes dart around âY-yesI Yes! Weâll go with my dadâs idea!â
âYes! You wonât regret this sweetie!â Lucifer puts his arm around Charlieâs shoulders. He looks back at Voe, lowering his volume âThanks for the helpâŠâ
âVoe. And no problem, Your Majesty.â
âOh, you donât need that âYour Majestyâ talk, you may call me Lucifer.â
She smiles warmly âAlright, Lucifer.â she speaks coyly. The King looks her up and down, giving her a wink. She bats her eyelashes at him as he walks off with his daughter, chatting her ear off. Voe glances up to catch Alastorâs eye, smirking before turning back around. The other residents are sitting around confused, and staring at each other, wondering if the meeting was over. Alastorâs eye is twitching ever so slightly. Voe returns to her spot to retrieve her phone, Angel Dust grabs her wrist and pulls her down.
âWhat the fuck just happened?â
The doe feigns innocence âWhat the hell did you just do?â
âWhat? I didnât do anything?â
âDid you just like, cast a spell over Charlieâs mind or something? That was, that was incredible!â
She seems flattered âOh no, I used no magic. I just have a way with words is all.â She sits back down in her spot next to him
âJust be careful toots, I donât think youâd wanna piss off a serial killer.â he looks back down at his phone
Her ear prick up âHmm?â
âYou wouldnât want to piss off a serial killer.â He raises his brow at her âOr would you?â
âI donât know Angel! Iâve never met a serial killer!â
âYeah, ya have,â
She raises her eyebrow at him âI beg your pardon?â
âAlâs a serial killerâ Angel uses two of his arms to gesture towards the deer demon, who stood in his usual get-up of his coat and dress pants, shoes with small heels, and a bow tie, back perfectly straight, occasionally fixing his hair and adjusting his monocle. A fucking monocle.Â
Voeâs mouth was agape looking between the deer and the spider. âThat Al? Like Alastor?â
âUh yeah.â Angel rolled his eyes
âBut heâs soâŠnerdy.â
Angel smirks âI thought you said he was cute.â
Her head whips back around âThose concepts arenât mutually exclusive.â
She marches over to the radio demon with an heir of confidence around her.Â
âAlastor,â she calls him simply, his head does not move, but his eyes do. He does not respond verbally, but his eyes tell her that she has his attention. âAngel just told me that you are a serial killer?â
He has no physical reaction to this statement, only a small âHmmm,â though, not as a questionÂ
âIs this accurate ?â
His smile grew extra wide, his eyes turning into radio dials as he leans forward âWhat do you think?â
Voeâs face is a bit flushed, but she doesnât recoil or retreat. âI guess that means yes.â Thereâs a warmth in her chest, looking at his radio-dial eyes. Like hot shivers down her back. âI didnât picture you as a serial killer,â she pretends like her body isnât reactingÂ
âWell, looks can be deceiving, my dear.â
She sticks her hip out and smirks âItâs just difficult to imagine you slinging around dead bodies. Wouldnât you need to be strong to do that?â
Alastorâs eyes widen and his nose flares, he inhales deeply.Â
âSounds like âbig boiâ activities,â she continued with a smug grin on her face
âI can assure you, that I am quite strong enough.â
âIâd love to see it.â She turns her chin up to see him better
âThen stay tuned.âÂ
She cocks her head at him before returning to Angel Dust, whispering Lucifer knows what. Alastorâs eyes follow her to her destination. This demoness, this..doe craved his attention. Why else would she be talking about him on her little picture box, outwardly defying him, or questioning his strength and ability to kill? She must want his eyes to be on her, but Alastor wasnât going to give her that satisfaction. Attention is all they crave, stop giving them attention and these little fires will burn out on their own.
Although he had initially thought it would be easy, he found it to be quite challenging. There was something about her hair that always caught his eye. It was a brighter shade of red than his own and each strand had a perfect curl, as if it had been individually wrapped around a pencil. Her hair was striking, and he found it difficult not to stare. He only realized that he had been staring when she looked up and caught his eye again. She smirked, displaying her smugness and overconfidence once more. Alastor found it revolting, and he resisted the urge to sneer. He simply squinted before leaving the place, certain that no mere doe would outwit him.
____________________________________________
âSoâŠwhat did you guys think of my dad? I love that heâs trying to get involved with something so important to me.â Her eyes glisten âHow do you guys think heâs doing?â
Voe is sitting on the couch next to Angel once more, both scrolling on their phones âWell, I know what I think. I think that man is fine.â She bites her lip
âAinât you gay?â Angel looks up from his phone, raising his eyebrow at her.
âLike Iâm not gay gay. Like, Iâm queer. Unfortunately, Iâm still attracted to men. And by the way Charlie,â she turns to the blonde demoness âI am 100% going to rizz up your dad,â
âRizz?â she looks towards Vaggie
âYeah, I donât know.â she shrugs
âItâs basically like flirting. Just like getting someone to like you,â Voe rolls her wrist
Charlie looks around, confused âUh, why?â
âBecause heâs hot! I love me a short king!â She spreads her arms in time with her words.
A loud âahemâ is heard on the other side of the room. The group directs their attention toward the noise. Alastor is sitting and reading a book, so quietly that Voe didnât even know he was there.
"If you don't mind, I'm trying to read," he called out over the group conversation.Â
"But what if I do?" she responded.
"Do what?"
"Mind,"
Alastor sat in silence, his grin widening as he squinted at her.Â
"You're a defiant little girl," he remarked.
"I'm a woman," she responded in a low voice, barely audible.
"That you are," he said as he stood up, microphone in hand, and walked away, shrouding himself in shadow.
Her eyes remain fixed on the spot the buck was previously standing in as if viewing the essence he left behind.
âWoaho! What the fuck was that?â
âI donât know, him butting into our conversation?â
âBullshit Voe, I know sexual tension when I see it! Somethingâs going on there. At least with you!â He points to Voe, poking her in the nose
âWhat?â she laughs
âYou did not have to say anything to that man.â Angel wiggles his eyebrows
She shrugs âWhatâs your point?â
âYou did that cuz you wanted attention. You just wanted him to talk to you!â
âMaybe I wanted to bother him, whatever!â She rolled her eyes
âWhy?â he leans into her face
âBecause itâs funny!âÂ
âYeah I know Alastor is annoying as fuck, but why mess with him?â Vaggie sits down in a chairÂ
âLike I said, because I think itâs funny,â she smirks, full of intent
Alastor struts his merry way down the hall, humming all the while. His eyes widen when he sees Princess Charlie walking towards him down the hall.
âCharlie my dear, just the Princess I was looking for.â
âOh, hi Alastor!â She looks up at him âWhatâs up?â
âI just came from a meeting with the other Overlords and they requested that I ask you what you intend to do with so many of the souls that they own?â
âWell you know Alastor, Iâm trying to help them be redeemed.â
âYes, but beyond that is what they are wondering.â
Charlie looks quite confused âI donât understand.â
Voe turns the corner, seeing the Overlord and the Princess having a discussion. She was unaware of the topic but viewed the situation as a chance for some of her own entertainment.
âBlah blah, Iâm Alastor I think Iâm better than everyone else,â she says from behind the corner
Alastorâs ears twitch at the sound. He turns to look in Voeâs direction, not seeing her behind the wall. Charlie looks past him, unaware of what heâd heard. âHmm,â he said, turning back to Charlie.
âHmm,â Voe mocks his cadence and tone from behind the wall âLike, what even is that?â She walks up the both of them casually, her footsteps light on the carpet
âOh, hi Voe!â Charlie wavesÂ
âHi,â she waves and leans on the wall.
Alastor raises an eyebrow âWe are in the middle of a conversation.â
âI am simply addressing the Princess, is that a crime?â
âWell youâve done youâre addressing, you may leave.â
Voe clicks her tongue âThe Wifi is GREAT here,â she looks back down at her phone while Alastor sighs in frustration. Voe hides her smirk and sits on the floor.
He turns back to Charlie âAll they are requesting is a simple meeting so they can understand your intentions. Theyâre quite worried about losing so many souls.âÂ
âSo many souls,â She mimics his accent once more and he sharply turns to her.
âExcuse me, last time I checked you were a doe, not a parrot. Or perhaps you are simply a child? A fawn maybe?â
Voe looks up, feigning confusion âAre you talking to me?â
Alastorâs smile turns tense âYes, I am,â
âWhat are you talking about?â
He squints at her, âI am not going to stand here and play your childish games.â He turns to Charlie once more âCharlie, the meeting is next week, promptly at 6 amâ
â6 am?â
âIt is the only time they are all free.â
âBecause fossils have to take their naps during the day.â Voe copied his accent once more, mumbling under her breath and then laughing at her own joke.
Alastor glares at her one more time before dissipating into shadows.
âShit! 6 am is fucking early!â Charlie spoke once more heading down the hall.
____________________________________________
âGuys! My dad is off making negotiations for the commercialâ
âHmm, absent as always,â Alastor speaks under his breath
âAndâŠâ Charlie moves on âSo I decided that it would be an amazing plan to get our actual residents involved in spreading the word. This is your home too!â
âWell my dear, if you let me make use of my talents, I certainly could get the word out on my radio show!â
âOf course Alastor! Thatâs a great idea. Anyone else?â
Alastorâs smile tenses at the suggestion that his radio show is not enough. Voe raises her hand slowly and dramatically.
âUh, Voe! What a lovely surprise!â Charlie beamsÂ
âWe could use Sinstagram.â She offers
âHow exactly?â
The doe shrugs âWe could like,â she puts her head back a little, thinking âthrow a party and I could livestream it on my account.â
Angel snorts âWhat good would that do?â
She cuts her eye at him âI have 10 million followers,â
Angel spits out his drink âWhat? Thatâs more than me and Iâm a certified celebrity!â
âYeah, Iâm waiting for my check mark, but anyway apparently there are demons who like to watch me do things and listen to what I say. We should take advantage of that.
âThat would be a great idea!â Charlie was ecstatic
âBut why a party?â Vaggie questioned
âBecause you want them to want to come here right? So we should show them that we do cool and fun things. Not just boring sharing circles. Not that these are boring Charlie.â She feigns caring about her remarks
âI assure you that I am just fine at getting the word out on the radio.â
âThe rest of Hell has progressed past that. Demons are engaging with modern technology like Vphones and laptops. To force them to reverse time in terms of media is unhelpful and having them put forth more effort than I know they would be willing to. No one would be receiving said message. The only demon I know that likes getting forced is Niffty.â She points toward the little demoness who is standing by her legs âAnd even though I enjoy the little scamp, no one else is like her. We need to take advantage of what the rest of Hell is already doing, not force them to do something else. Listen, I just got down here, so I know what theyâre like up there. Social media rules up there so why wouldnât it down here?â
âOkay, all in favor of Alastorâs idea, raise your hand.â
âAnd be honest, heâs not going to hurt you,â Voe interjectedÂ
âI might,â Alastor added
Voe purses her lips. A few demons raise their hands.Â
âAnd now all in favor of Voeâs idea?â
The vast majority of the residents raise their hands, Voe tilts her head in smug joy. Alastor squints in annoyance.Â
âLook, why donât we just do both, cuz we donât want Radiohead to get pissy about it. You do whatâs natural to you and Iâll do whatâs natural for me.âÂ
âVoe! That is an amazing idea! A compromise! Looks like you are taking steps to get redeemed!â Charlie raved
Voe could only blink at the praise given by the princess. She hadnât been expecting it or planning for it. Her words had been genuine, the validation was earned. Her face flushed with pink and she pulled at one of her ears.Â
âOkay, you guys were asking me to try this hot new dress byâŠâ she squints at the tag âVelvette. Oooh, thatâs a nice way to spell that. Now Iâm taking it out of the bag and this is exquisite! Just by looking at it, I can tell this was high quality. Wait, let me get a hanger.â She goes to retrieve a hanger from her closet and places the dress on it. She holds the full dress out in front of the camera. âThis is amazing, itâs giving princess vibes. And yâall know I had to get it in pink. Yeah, like a casual princess. I could see this working in a casual setting and a business casual setting.â Voe feels the material, her mouth is agape in awe. âGuys, itâs so soft! Oh my gosh, Iâm looking forward to the rest of these now!â She reaches back into the bag and pulls out a second dress, this one also pink, short, and form-fitting. âGuys this one is a sleek party dress! Oh, I could see myself wearing it to a club or you know, a party!â She pulls at the dress fabric âOkay, this tough, I canât even rip it on purpose! So this will last you a long time!â She hangs up the other dress and pulls out one more, also pink with subtle sparkles dusted all around it. âOkay, no guys because what? This is beautiful! Okay, absolutely not I have to try this on!â
She covers the camera and within minutes has the new dress on. âThis is what? This is- oh my gosh! This is amazing. Look at how the light catches these sparkles! I love the fit, itâs firm in my boobs, but loose everywhere else!. And the sparkles intentionally catch light so it looks like thereâs a spotlight on you no matter where you go! This is amazing! I- I cannot believe this. I see no flaws. These clothes are perfect. Hats off to you Miss Velvette! You are quite the designer!â She sits back in her chair and lifts a package, unwrapping it to find a very futuristic water bottle âAnd one of you guys sent me this..â she reads the label âVoxTek water bottle to review. So now Iâm going to see what would be the point of techni- technologically-â She looks off to the side, thinking âWhat the fuck would you even call that? Teching? Yeah, Teching a water bottle.â She looks around the bottle, itâs covered in buttons and has a screen on the side. She presses one and it does nothing. She presses another and the screen lights up, displaying the VoxTek logo.
âHmm,â she remarks as the screen turns to the show âI Fucked Your Sister, So what?â She turns the bottle back around to the buttons and begins pressing them, seeing that they control the switching of the channels. âOoooh,â she displays somewhat of an interest in the bottle, pressing another button that controls volume, then another that controls brightness. âOkay, itâs all fancy with the tech, but can it actually hold water?â
The video cuts to her with a VoxTek bottle filled with water, trying not to let a drop drip out onto the screen. She screws on the top and shakes the bottle around. It doesnât come off and none of the water leaks.
âOkay guys, should I drink from it? Iâm gonna drink from it.â It has a built-in straw that pops up and almost pokes her eye out.Â
âOh shit!â and she drinks from the bottle, noticing a little nob that says âflavorâ, she switches it and the water begins to taste like blue raspberry, âHoly shit! I might start drinking water more often!â She takes another sip âYou can change the flavor, holy fuck!â She drinks more. âThis is fuckinâ cool!â She drinks again âOkay, Iâm totally gonna use this, because I think itâs awesome. However, Iâm going to have to give it an 8/10 because tech being so close to water is just a disaster waiting to happen.â She gestures towards the dresses âBut these dresses are 10s.â
Once Voe stops recording and sheâs begun uploading the video, her ears twitch at at sound outside of her room. Her nose picked up on a certain aroma, ever so pleasant to her nostrils and so thick that she could taste it. She followed it to the door, opened it, and sniffed down the hallway until she saw the familiar flare of a striped red coat. This is what the scent led to. It was him that smelled so good.
âOh, itâs you.â She spoke flatly, crossing her arms and sticking out her hip. âI knew I smelled something.â
Alastor turns around to face the voice he hears, his eyes immediately squint and his grin gets wider and more devilish. âYou are quite the contrarian, little doe.â he steps up to her, very much inside her personal space. She takes a step back.
âAnd you like that donât you?â Alastor opens his mouth to speak before registering what she says and then closes it. She chuckles and shoots him a side-eye. âYou donât scare me.â
"I'm not trying to scare you," he said with a wide grin on his face. "I'm letting you know your placeâ
"But you're not," she replied unimpressed.
"I'm not trying to-,â he stumbled over his words, his eyes darting back and forth, stretching what constitutes a smile.
"Getting choked up on your words?" she asked, crossing her arms.
"I'm simply thinking about what to say first."
"So you're getting choked up on your words?" she teased. "This is the Radio Demon? I figured a radio host wouldn't have this much trouble talking," she added with a smirk.
"I don't like you," he said, his eyes narrowing as his radio filter vanished.
"You don't?" she widens her eyes, with feigned surprise.
He had no response, so instead snatched her glasses and tossed them, before storming down the hall. Voeâs mouth was agape at just the amount of pettiness that this grown man was willing to stoop to. It was actually kind of funny seeing how frazzled and annoyed she could make this man. Despite his dangerous reputation, she didnât feel in danger, mostly just a little warm in the chest, she thought as she went to retrieve her glasses. Maybe it was just a deer thing.
Storming was a perfect way to remove yourself from a situation and make it known that you still hold all the power. She could not know that she was getting to him, especially in such a short time. What would he usually do to anything that grated his nerves this much? Simply remove it from the equation. If that requires a little carnage or a lot of bloodshed, then so be it. But he felt he could not do that with this demon for some reason. Today it was not only her spiral curls that caught his attention, but also her spots and how they seemed randomly and yet quite purposefully placed on her skin. Or perhaps her black deer nose stood out the most. Maybe the odd but pleasing look of her differently colored lips? He wasnât sure what it was but under every irritating encounter, Alastor felt pleased? To see her face? To hear her speak? It was confusing for sure, so the feeling was best to be avoided.
Voe returned to her room, immediately reaching for her phone where she was met with a barrage of notifications on her Sinstagram that never disappointed.
Thats the newest model!
Whoever got you that, give me their info i need a sugar daddy
told you velvette was the best
The Vees rule!
you have as much style as Velvette
BOOOO 10/10 ON THE VOXTEC BOTTLE
does she think we really care about this shit?
She smiled reading them, pleased at her impact. Negative or positive, she was on the minds of these people, and thatâs where she liked to be. There was one comment however that caught her attention over all the others. One with a checkmark next to the username.
Check your DMs love
The username beside it reads: Velvette
Intrigued by the comment, she moved over to her DMs, skipping all the ones from others who watched her content and liked to engage with her until she found a thread under the same username.
Hey love, Iâve seen your videos and youâve really got an eye for whatâs what. Iâm sure youâve heard of the Vees and that we do a hiring event every once in a while and I think that you could actually offer something of value to my team. Respond to let me know that youâre interested.
Voe sat and pondered this message, it was from a verified account, and the Vees were the heads of all things media, according to the King of Hell himself. Another message in the thread popping up snatched her away from her thoughts.
ps love the name!
If the Vees were in charge of all the media, then all of Hell could know her name in no time flat. Even if she didnât choose to work with them she would still be a certified influencer, so what would be the harm of checking the place and the people out? There was literally no downside.
hi. thanks for reaching out to me. i would def be interested in the event.
ps love your dresses!
Instantly, Voe was gifted with a response.
Be at V tower tomorrow at 9 AM sharp -xxx

MW5: Clans
Having messed around with Mechwarrior 5 Clans for a bit I think I can throw out a pretty strong recommendation for it for anyone still uncertain. The TLDR: I enjoy it plenty, lore and gameplay. The cutscenes and characters are pretty good.
I apparently made a review of it because I felt like talking about it into the void. With largely positive things to say about it. Bunch of stuff I honestly want to hear other people's opinions on too.
It is quite back to the old days in Mechwarrior 4 with characters and opinions and how it flows with the fights. While I enjoyed MW5 Mercs, it is kindof lacking in that department though as the DLCs pile on you get a lot more of it or at least attempts that aren't halfbad. Good effort has gone into making the people sound right, with accents and affects. Like yes, the clanners talk as they're supposed to. When one of your team uses a contraction every clanner outside your star immediatly lose their shit. Not in the meme sense but it they might as well have said c*nt next to a bunch of americans in terms of foulness spoken out loud.
The story following the smoke jaguars during Operation Revival is interesting considering they commit the worst war crime during the invasion and also kindof continually fumble the ball against the Combine. Your star, five lone mechs against the inner sphere, are part of the proceedings and the different characters in the star interact, sometimes disagree or just give each other shit. Got a nice team atmosphere. It introduces stuff and concepts among the clans quite nicely so even if you're not familiar with them you'll pick up what they're on about.
I think it does a pretty nice job of showing things from the Clans perspective of Operation Revival and how they are completely unprepared for the Inner Sphere and continually frustrated with it and things just going increasingly awry. There's a few beats that I think could've been done better certainly but I think it's good drama and a fun time in that regard. I could go more into what I think of the depictions of the clans in the game but that's basically some nerding out about the larger battletech universe and stuff. After turtle bay I kinda had that feeling that I've had in the past when a game makes you a culprit of a war crime or something terrible. A special kind of disgust made all the more visceral as you see the people, the resistance, in Turtle bay reacting to the bombing. Then everything blowing up.
Another thing that I quite like of this depiction is that the inner sphere does put up some serious resistance. Stuff doesn't roll over. They put up some serious fights. More often than not this is called dishonourable because the inner sphere descends into trickery and lies even though aforementioned trickery and lies are often extremely basic ambushes or "send more mechs to the fight." It is funny to contrast with Mercs where this just is how the Inner sphere fights. That said the clanners do eventually learn that they will set traps and ambush and attempt to fight unfair. Very often sending tons of mechs and people into the meat grinder in so doing. Some of the fights do get pretty intense and hard. You also get to see Comstar be Comstar. Wearing their space wizard garbs and being a manipulative force that will never tell you the truth.
The maps while feeling a bit more lived in than most of what Mercs managed to do, are kindof cramped and not great half the time for the kindof long range shooting matches more than half your equipment is good for, not helped that even with the added control to your lance or star mates you still have to be the one to step into the breach. Luckily there's many things you can do to fit that problem. I kindof wish that the star command screen had a pause function so that you could assign targets or at least go into bullet time. Because by the time the enemies show up. They're usually ontop of you so that's not really time to get your map out and play mechcommander. The fact it doesn't pause or slow down so you can set attacks or even give things preferences such as "maybe don't waste all your ammo on the fricking Locust when it will fall over from a stiff breeze" is honestly kindof baffling. Especialy how exciting it otherwise looks and how much detailing you can do with the Star mates XP and omnipods for their mechs. Which is not quite like tabletop omnipod but makes more sense than those omnipods.
Because of the tight maps the AI will more often than not walk in front of you when you're trying to hose something down way more often than they did in mercs. And they will complain about it when you invariably remove all thier back armor by mistake. You get used to it.
The fights feel pretty good honestly. Good challenging combat maps. They got a lot more field repair bays around compared to MW5:mercs. Which... I think I only remember 2? And were introduced like they were going to be more common in the campaign. Which holy shit, you're going to need those repair bays. You get to visit some really varied battlefields, a Star League depot, a cave system, cities and country side. Lots of mountain passes. Deserts and even do battle on a space port.
There's boss battles now. With various levels of canonicity. I don't know if we needed those but I see the point of them. They are usually there to give some variety to shooting stuff after waves of mechs and vehicles and vtols. You can also shoot down shilones now. I'd say aerospace fighters but it's all shilones.
All in all. If you enjoy mechwarrior, if you enjoy battletech. Chances are Mechwarrior 5 clans will have you eating well.

S4E12 & S4E13 - The Stolen Earth & Journey's End
â
â
â
â
â
This is like Doctor Who: The Greatest Hits and I bloody love it. The Doctor? Check. Companions past and present? Check. Torchword? Daleks? The universe about to blow up again? Check, check and check.
Is this the strongest two-parter finale? No. While The Stolen Earth builds up a very horrifying tension with a decent cliffhanger, in Journey's End there's a very rushed resolution that seems unsatisfying - Donna flicking a couple of switches ends the entire Davros strategy and reality bomb? After entire planets were blinked out of existence? But this is is less about plot and more about character fan service. So I'm reviewing how they ended up.
Jackie and Pete 2.0 - they are together and expecting little Pete 3.0. Cute. 5 stars.
Sarah Jane and her kid - safe at home with K9 and Mr Smith. Love that for them. Sarah Jane got her proper goodbye with the Doctor, finally. 5 stars.
Captain Jack and the Torchwood gang - they live another day to keep saving Wales from more sex aliens. Class. 4 stars.
Martha - fuck you RTD for pairing her up with Mickey the Tin Dog. What happened to being engaged to hot Lucifer doctor?? My girl Martha always with the thankless job. 1 star.
Rose - as if Rose hadn't suffered enough heartbreak on a beach, here we are again. The real Doctor is there and dangled in front of her, but here's his Metacrisis human version that she has to settle for knowing that the real Doctor is going to continue on his adventures again and not with her...again. She gets to fix a man, yippee! It's not the happy ending I remember it being when I watched it as a teen. 2 stars.
Donna - oh Donna. You grew on me so much this season and to have your memories wiped in this way is beyond cruel. Hers is the ending of the series that we mourn. All those adventures in time and space that basically never happened. Because you know she's going back to her dull life in Chiswick where her self-esteem drops and her mum berates her all the time. It was painful and so 4 stars for that.
QUOTE: "I just want you know there are worlds out there safe in the sky because of her. And there are people living in the light and singing songs of Donna Noble a thousand million light years away. They will never forget her. While she can never remember. But for one moment, one shining moment, she was the most important woman in the whole wide universe." "She still is. Sheâs my daughter."

S2 Ch 4 - The Beantown Bailout Job
Series Rewrite MasterlistÂ
Pairing: Eliot Spencer x Ford!Reader
Description: The team is reunited in Boston and help a father-daughter pair with the mob.
Words: 5498
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up a little earlier than I normally do, got dressed and walked across the hall. I entered with my spare key and started making breakfast and coffee.Â
After the whole deal with Blackpoole, Nate was looking for a fresh start, and he decided that that would look like living close to me in Boston. He stayed with me for a few weeks while he got his stuff in order, and then the condo across the hall opened up. He decided to stay close. I didnât mind, it meant I could keep an eye on him, make sure he was doing okay, especially since he stopped drinking, almost cold turkey.Â
I heard him walk down the stairs, âwhat are you doing here?
I looked up to see him in a well pressed suit, âwell, itâs your first day at this new job isnât it?â
I finished up the breakfast I was making right as the coffee maker indicated it was done. I handed them both to him at the counter before dishing myself a plate.
âThank you, y/n.â He started to sip on his mug, âDo you have work going on today?â
âIâm vetting possible clients, but no projects, why?â
âJust curious. Uh, Sophie has a musical tonight, here in Boston. Do you wanna come with me?â
âSure, sounds fun.â I halfway entertained the idea of everyone else being there, but the chances of that were slim. But imagining seeing Eliot again was still a bit fun.Â
He left shortly after, I finished cleaning up and returned to my own apartment. It was only a few hours later when I heard the door across the hall slam closed. I quickly called Nate.
âYeah?â
âWas that you that just slammed your door closed?â
âYeah.â
âWhat are you doing back already? Itâs not even lunch time.â
âI quit.â
âWhat?â
âIt was just too much.â
I sighed, âOkay.â
âI also helped this girl and her dad get out of a car wreck.â
âWhat?!â
âIâm a bit worried about them, something seems off. I might go visit them in the hospital again sometimeâŠâ
âOkayâŠâ
âIâll talk to you later.â
âOkay.â
The things this man gets himself intoâŠ
He knocked on my door that evening, walking in when I called him. I looked at the outfit he was wearing and looked at my own to see we were both in a nicer casual.
âCool, let me grab my keys.â
We arrived at the theater with plenty of time to spare. As we looked around the opening foyer I heard a voice at the front desk.
âParker. No, just one name.â
I touched Nateâs arm to point out that Parker was here. Soon as we looked around, I saw that the rest of the crew had come as well. We greeted each other before Sophie came out and said hi.Â
âI didnât know you could sing,â Hardison commented to Sophie.
âYou know, not as well as I act, but yeah.â
Hardison and Parker made a bit of horrified eye contact that left me confused. Hardison saw this and shook his head as if to say, âdonât ask.â
There was an awkward moment between Nate and Sophie before Sophie insisted on us all meeting up afterwards before she dashed off.
I guess it was time for the show.
It was awful, and thatâs all that needs to be said.Â
We all went to McRoryâs pub after the show. Sophie was distraught as Parker rad some of the reviews.
âNever before has a production of The Sound of Music made me root for the Nazis.â
I cringed a bit in sympathy.
Eliot sat down at the bar with Nate, he was surprised that he had stopped drinking, âhow do you know about this place then?â
âWe rent condos upstairs,â I told him.
âCondos? Plural?â
I looked at Nate, âwe each needed our own space.â
Eliot only nodded.Â
Sophie stopped Parker, âNo there is nothing you can say to make me feel better.â
âI know what can make you feel better. We should steal something.â
Nate opposed.Â
âYes, we could do it together!â Sophie finally seemed excited.Â
âI like this. Get right back up on the bike.â Eliot commented
âBike of crime,â Parker added.
âDidnât you earlier tell me how great your new lives were?â Nate asked.
âYeah, well, I stole the Hope Diamond.â Parker said, âThen I put it back. Yeah, because I was bored. Didnât care.â
âI spent three days hacking the White House email. No buzz.â
âSee?â Sophie pointed.
âBut we are doing some pretty hinky stuff in Pakistan. HinkyâŠâ
âLook, Iâm miserable. Theyâre miserableâŠâ Sophie said to Nate before asking Eliot, âOkay, what have you been doing the last six months?â
He hesitated, âI was in PakistanâŠâ
I raised an eyebrow at him, but he just shrugged.Â
âYou⊠You see what you did?â Hardison asked Nate, âYou took the worldâs best criminals, hitter, hacker, grifter, thief. You took us and you broke us.â
âNo, no. I⊠What I did, I taught you how to help people. Thatâs all.â Nate argued.
âExactly.â
âThis is the problem with being the good guy! It gets under your skin.â Eliot explained.Â
I just took a sip of my mild drink, watching this all happen.
âLook Nate,â Sophie said, âyou have to have some poor little lost soul somewhere who needs a little extra legal aid.â
âLook, we agreed that we would just move on.â
âYeah, but⊠weâre thieves!â
âNot me! Look, it was great. It was fun, it was wonderful while it lasted, but, you know, I was drunk for most of the time to be honest with you-â
âBut you were good,â Eliot interrupted.
âYou were the best.â
âWe were the best.â
I smiled over my glass, watching them wear Nate down. This was good for him, they were good for him.Â
âListen, I owe all of you, and Iâm very proud of what we did, I really am, but⊠I got my life back and I intend to keep it that way.â
My smile fell. I tried to stare him down, but Nate was pointedly avoiding eye contact.Â
âAnd I am not a thief.â He stood from the bar and walked out, âit was great to see all of ya. Good night.â
I stood as well, âIâm sorry about him, maybe stick around town for a while? It was nice to see you guys again.â
âDonât worry about it y/n. It was good to see you too.â Eliot said before everyone else said their goodbyes.Â
I caught up to Nate on the stairs.
ââI got my life back?â Nate, you donât know what to do with yourself anymore!â
âY/n, Iâm going straight. Iâm gonna get a job, a normal job! Iâll figure it out.â
âYou better, because these guys saved you better than I ever could. Donât throw them away.â
He looked at me, âOkay.â
âOkay, Iâm going to bed. Donât stay up too late.â
He waved me off as I stepped into my apartment. I contemplated working a bit more, but decided against it and went straight up to my room and crashed.Â
The next day I felt bad for what I said. I looked at the clock and figured he would probably be up by now, even if he quit his job. I walked across the hall, but could hear lots of things happening inside Nateâs apartment.Â
I knocked on the door and gently pushed it open, sticking my head in. âNate?â
âGet out of there!âÂ
âWhat?â I saw Nate was on the couch and he was looking towards the kitchen. I stepped in further to see that the whole crew was there in Nateâs apartment.
Nate looked over to me and waved me in further into the apartment as if to say, âfine, come on in.â
âWhat are you guys doing here? Get all this stuff out of here, youâre planning something I know it. Come on, get out of my house, out!â Nate got off the couch and started trying to shew the team away.
âSomeone tried to kill you last night.â
âWhat?!âÂ
Everyone snapped their heads over to me with a slightly guilty expression.Â
âIâm fine.â
Eliot turned back to Nate, âWhat do you want us to do man? You want us to just blow town, let you figure it out?â
âYes, actually, thatâs exactly what I want you to do.â
âNate.â I gave him a pointed look, âwhat did we talk about last night? If someone tried to kill you then weâre gonna need some help.â
âWeâre nothing y/n, youâre not getting involved with this.â
âBullcrap, Iâm a grown ass woman, and you obviously are acting like a child!â
Sophie interjected, not letting that go too far, âWe found the phone number of the hospital in your pocket, Nate. We know what you did. We know you saved that guyâs life and the little girl, and weâre all really proud of you!â
I sat next to Eliot at the table, Parker on my other side, dressed like a nun, as he applauded Nate.Â
âLook, nobody else is gonna help that guy and his little girl, okay?â Hardison said seriously, âthatâs what we do, we help people.â
Nate just continued to make coffee.Â
âBy the way, I compared Sophieâs description of your attacker to the accident footage from the security camera.â He typed away at his laptop, âDo you realize that on average, people are caught on security cameras thirteen times a day?â
âThatâs crazy,â I commented and Hardison nodded at me.Â
âIt is crazy, but we can track himâŠâ He trailed off, âI lost him in this.â
I peaked over the table to see the man on camera take papers out of the briefcase he stole from the man in the crash and dash off.Â
âYeah, well, I found this empty briefcase belonging to Matt Kerrigan at that intersectionâ Eliot told Nate who was becoming more interested.Â
âItâs, uh, Boston Commonwealth Bank right?â
âNo,â Nate corrected, âFirst Independent Boston. Thatâs where Kerrigan works, come on.â
I smiled, Hardison seeming to have the same thought as me.Â
âWhoâs this guy?â Eliot pointed at the laptop, and I followed where he was pointing.Â
âYou donât know, do you? Itâs Kerriganâs boss, that guy, Leary.â Nate brushed off the stares he got from the crew.Â
âWell, whoâs the other guy?â
âItâs not clear enough for facial recognition.â
âWell the problem is, those two cats went down to the safety deposit boxes.â
Parker stood, âwhich is the only room in every bank with absolutely no cameras.â
âWhich means we up, baby,â Hardison stood and finished his priest outfit to fit with Parkerâs nun. âThey tried to kill Kerrigan for what was in the briefcase⊠Weâre gonna steal it back.â He continued as the two of them left.
Eliot laughed, âSheâs dressed that way because sheâs doinâ a conâŠâ
âWhat, you thought she was dressed like a nun for no reason?â Nate asked.
âItâs Parker,â Eliot pointed out.
âI didnât question it either Nate,â I raised my hand. Eliot pointed at me appreciatively.
âWell, fair enough,â Nate conceded. âOkay, I want you out of my house, out.â Naate continued after a moment. He explained that he was going to get cleaned up and he wasnât involved with any of it. He wanted everything out of his house.
After he went up stairs I turned to Sophie and Eliot who were still there, âyou guys can stay, if you need to hide from him pop over to my place across the hall.â I stood from the table and walked towards the door, âkeep me in the loop please, I wanna know what's going on!â
âWe will, y/n, thank you!â Sophie called.Â
I heard Eliot mention something about all of Nateâs sports channels before I closed the door behind me.Â
It was a few hours later when Sophie called me back over to Nateâs place. I saw that they had really set up shop in his living room, practically begging for his participation. They gave me a quick recap of what happened, Parker and Hardison going to the bank and retrieving the files Kerrigan had, and then Eliot going to the mobâs fake businesses running into some mob people in the process.
Eliot unpacked a duffel, âThis is all the stuff I found in the warehouse, in the boxes.â
Clothing and calendars clearly from the â80s were tossed around. I laughed as Parker put on a jacket with the largest shoulder pads I had ever seen.
âThis stuff hasnât left the warehouse since the 1980sâ Sophie commented.Â
âI feel like a robot,â Parker swung her arms around while in the jacket.
âWait, so if these are supposed to be just fake businesses, how come their financials are so squeaky clean?â Sophie asked.Â
I tilted my head and was about to speak when Nate beat me to it.Â
âBecause theyâre fake businesses.â He paused and tried to justify himself a bit before he continued when no one else commented, âSophie, how do you catch mob guys?â
âUh, two glasses of Chianti and a story about my grandma in Sicily.â
âHow does the government catch mob guys?â He amended.
âTaxes,â multiple people answered.
âEh, thatâs how they got Capone,â Hardison commented.
âThatâs how they get everybody,â Sophie added, âthey never get you for the crime, they always get you for the taxes. Itâs not really fair.â
âSo thirty years ago the OâHares got very smart,â Nate started with his explanation. âYou see, they set up all these shell companies: fake sales, fake receipts. They launder all their money through them.â
âAnd everybody in the family gets a salary,â Hardison realizes. âYeah, they pay withholding, payroll taxes, pension. Itâs all old school.â
âThatâs why the businesses are clean,â Eliot adds, âTheyâre dirty from the inside.â
I found it fascinating how they bounced off each other so easily, it almost seemed like it was rehearsed. Like perhaps they were egging Nate on.Â
âWell, yeah, if you have a body in the trunk of your car, youâre gonna drive under the speed limit, arenât you?â Nate explained.Â
âYou know, when youâre sober your metaphors get creepier,â Parker tells him.
âI mean, heâs not wrong though.â Everyone turned towards me and I shrugged.Â
âBut, wait wait,â Hardison interjects, âthat still doesnât explain the last six months of running up bad loans.â
âAll from a bank thatâs about to closeâ Sophie mentions.Â
âClose?â Nate asked. âNo, not close. Get bailed out.â Nate stood from where he was perched on his desk and approached us, âLook, we got a banker in the pocket of the mob. Mob takes out bad loans, cleans out the bank, knowing, three days from now, the governmentâs gonna come along and then, you know, bail the bank out.â
Eliot sat next to me on the couch as Nate stepped to the front of the group as he explained their operation. I smiled at him and how his knee brushed against mine before turning back to Nate.
âI mean, itâs perfect. You know, I donât even think itâs illegal. ItâsâŠâ He paused, looking out the window before turning back to us, âI mean, if we were gonna do this⊠this jobâŠâ
âJust this one job,â Sophie said.
âYes, just this one⊠I mean the con youâd wanna doâŠâ
âHypothetically,â Hardison added.
âHypothetically, you know, is the turnabout, of course.â
âOhh, that is a good one!â Sophie cheers.
I looked back and forth from her to Nate. I have never felt so lost.
âYou know, it takes five people to do the turnabout,â Eliot mentions.
âThatâs true, there's just four of us,â Sophie said.
âAnd a half,â Eliot glances at me with a shrug, âjust saying.â
I smirked as Nate glared at the two of us.
âOne more person, hmm,â Parker eggs a bit.
âYeah, we gotta scare the banker into turning against the mob,â Nate said contemplatively. âAlright. Alright, weâll do this job, just this one.â
The rest humbly agreed with him, acting as if it were a surprise.
âHardison, you and Parker, youâre gonna be on the badge,â Nate directed. âEliot, sheepdog. Sophie-â
âIce queen!â She completed.
âAnd Iâm the bag man. Now if youâll excuse me, Iâm going to go call a professional killer who tried to murder me and arrange to meet him in an isolated location.â
I slowly raised my hand.
âYou are going to stay here. Youâll be lucky if you get to participate in this one.â
I sighed, âFair⊠I guess. Can you tell me what a turnabout con is?â
âAll in due time.â He walked off, presumably to make his phone call.Â
âSee that? He did miss us!â Sophie awed.
âMore than heâd like to admit, thatâs for sure,â I looked at all of them before adding, âbut I didnât tell you that.â
They all smiled and nodded, Hardison making a zipped lips motion.
Everyone got ready for their respective roles, and while I wasnât involved, they let me out of the apartment to observe, and maybe help a little. I came along with Hardison, Parker, and Eliot. I waited around the corner until Eliot finished his intimidating stare passing by Leary. When he came around the corner, he handed me a few of the mini explosive charges to help place them on the wall of the bank.Â
âHey, this detonator, if Iâm around the corner, is it still gonna be in range?â Eliot asked Hardison while we walked away.
âShould be. I havenât worked out all the kinks yet⊠Sometimes the things just go off,â Hardison answered.
I blanched a bit, âWhat?â
Eliot stopped him, âWait, hey. I thought you said this thing was safe.â
âMostly. Mostly safe. I was very specific. Sometimes the frequencies get messed up.â
âWhat frequencies, man? Huh? I got these things in my pants,â Eliot scrambled, reaching into his pockets.
âLike, uh, you know, a garage door opener, a car alarm.â
Just then a woman came out of the bank and accidentally set off her car alarm near us. Eliot and I flinched and I became very aware of the few left over explosives in my hand.
I quickly shoved them into Hardisonâs hands, âtake them.â
Eliot was still digging them out of his pockets when Parker asked Hardison, âwhat are the odds that Eliotâs crotch will actually explode?â
âDammit Hardison,â Eliot exclaimed as he walked off.
I cringed in sympathy while Hardison laughed. He called Sophie to get an update. Everything seemed to be going to plan with Nate and Sophie having an in with the mob and we went to meet them back at Nateâs apartment with the exception of Eliot who would stick around for Leary. He would set off the explosives acting like gunshots once he came out of the bank.
Once Nate came back and it was determined he was no worse for wear, he decided he was going to go visit the Kerrigans.
âDo you want me to come with you?â I asked, while I knew he was much better with hospitals now, it didnât hurt to have someone with him.Â
He contemplated for a second before nodding.Â
Once we arrived at the fatherâs hospital room, we approached the daughter sitting next to him. Nate said hi first and then introduced me to her. I sat next to her with Nate standing on the other side of the bed.Â
She was fiddling with a necklace she had on, but stopped when she noticed I had noticed, âNervous habit.â
I nodded, âwhat is that?â
She picked it up again to look at it, âSt. Brigid. My motherâs name. Dad got it for me after she died.â
âSo how are you doing?â Nate asked her after a moment.Â
Her face twisted in disappointment, âThey say the accident is his fault.â
âNo,â Nate quickly replied, âNo, now listen, your dad, he found some papers at work, and he was trying to figure out what they meant, and he got a little too close to somethingâŠâ
âNo, but itâs not his fault. It was my fault," she insisted.
I placed my hand on her shoulder, âNo, no, it wasnât your fault.â
âHe said something was bothering him at work. I told him to call the police, and now⊠now theyâŠâ she trailed off before speaking again. âThere are wolves in the world. Thatâs what dad says, âbe careful, Zoe. There are wolves in the world.ââ
Nate nodded and circled the bed to crouch next to her, âHe was not wrong.â
She grasped her fatherâs hand, âso the worldâs just like this, huh? Bad people do bad things, and they always get away with it. Nobody stops them.â
I looked at Nate who had the same grim look on his face as I did. We stayed for a little bit longer, but it soon came time to get back.
The plan was coming to its final act. Hardison passed out new earbuds while explaining that they were more comfortable and even better than before. I put one in and realized that they were more comfortable than I remembered them.Â
âOkay, if this works, our friend Mr. Leary, he goes to the State Police, he runs, he spills his guts. Eliot, make sure he gets there.â
âIâm on it.â
âWait, Eliot,â Nate called him, looking at me.Â
He turned back.
âTake y/n with you. Keep her safe, please. She should be good with surveillance.â
I smiled before following Eliot.
Nate grabbed my arm when I passed, âBe careful.â
âI will.â
We didnât talk much when watching for Leary. We quickly followed when he got in his car and drove off. Everything seemed to be going great at first. Nate was talking to the OâHares when Leary started making a few wrong turns if he were going to the police.Â
âEliot, where is he going?â
He grunted, âI donât know yet.â
Soon he pulled into the harbor and we quickly swung around to the other side before following on foot.Â
âEliot, y/n, is Leary with the cops? We donât have a lot of room for error,â Nate asked through the comms.Â
âUh, slight problem Nate,â I responded.
âLeary drove down to the waterfront, dumped his car. Heâs headinâ right for you.â Eliot tucked me behind him when Leary walked past.
âHe was supposed to go to the cops.â
âWell then I donât know what heâs doing,â Eliot responded to Nate before turning to me. âIâm gonna follow him, you go back to the car, I donât know whatâs going on. Stay safe and out of sight from the mob guys.â
I opened my mouth, but didnât say anything. I quickly closed it and nodded before turning back towards the car we came in. As much as I wanted to help, I was in way over my head here. On the way to the car, there was a group of mob guys approaching. I quickly ducked behind some junk and debris and held my breath as they passed by my hiding spot. I peeked around to see that there was one who stuck around the area of my escape route. Luckily he was far enough away to not notice me, but if I moved too much, or tried to run, that wasnât guaranteed.Â
I whispered, hoping Hardison was right that the comm would pick it up, âEliot, be careful, there's mob guys coming your way.â
âOkay, guys, itâs not OâHare,â I heard Nate through my comm.Â
âWhat?â Sophie asked.
âUh, no. OâHare is not the boss is what Iâm saying.âÂ
âNo. This whole con was built around OâHare.âÂ
âOoh, theyâre probably gonna shoot Nate in the face,â Parker said.
âUh, Parker, I can hear you.â
I bit my lip, trying not to make a sound. I kept peeking around to see that the mob guy was still there, just smoking a cigarette leisurely. Â
Parker apologized as Sophie emphasized our predicament.Â
âAlright, listen, weâre gonna have to make this one up as we go.â
I listened as Nate talked to OâHare and Leary, trying to smooth over some wrinkles. I peeked out again to see the guy had finished his cigarette and walked off in the same direction as the previous group. I waited for him to pass and get far enough away before dashing off to the car. Luckily there was nobody else in the way of me getting further from the warehouse. I slipped in the car with a sigh of relief and locked myself in. I eagerly listened to my comm to find out what was going on.
There was some grunting and rustling that seemed to come from Eliot, âAlright, alright!â
âEliot?â I asked, âAre you okay?â
I only heard an intentional hum in reply before Eliot whispered to someone, âYou better know what youâre doing.â
There was a beat before Nate called, âHey, hey, heâs got a state trooper badge!â
I could hear other people talking, but not what they were saying before Eliot whispered a âwoah.â
Then I heard more clearly from OâHare, âyou kill him. I fixed Kerriganâs breaks, Iâm not killing a cop!â
âLook, you screwed up Kerrigan!â Leary replied.Â
âNo, uh, heâs right. Youâre right. Heâs-â Nate stuttered along before he was cut off by what sounded like gunshots.
I yelled, âNate? Eliot? Guys, whatâs going on?!â
Hardison responded in my ear, âitâs all good, just stay put, we got this.â
Sophie started speaking in character, âhas he got a wire? Come on Ford, get with it! Check him for a wire!â
I sighed in relief, theyâve got this.
âYes, right on it,â Nate responded.
âThis isnât how we do it in Boston,â I heard OâHare say.
âReally? This is exactly how we do it in London, except we usually use a razor blade.â
I shivered at the connotation, Sophie could be scary while in character.
âNo wire⊠He has his cellphone though!â Nate called.Â
âHit redial, see who he called,â Sophie said to Leary once he said there was no speed dial number saved. âLeary, right? Annie Kroy,â Sophie introduced herself, ânice little number with the banks there. Itâs a shame the rest of your operationâs a bit of a balls-up.â
I heard someoneâs phone ringing before Leary asked, âOâHare? Why was a copâs last phone call to you?â
I was confused too, I thought back and Eliot never called OâHare. I realized though, that Nate was supposed to call OâHare after Eliot and I left. Nate must have given them his phone instead!
âThis is⊠This is a setup,â OâHare tried to explain.Â
âHow is this a setup?â Leary asked. âShe shot the cop.â
âYeah, and heâs the one that dialed the phone,â Sophie added.Â
âYou didnât want us to shoot him either, did you?â Leary accused, âWhy, did you know him?â
âIt wasnât like that! Come on, you know I was in this thing from the beginning.âÂ
I smiled hearing them bicker and turn on each other. This team sure does know how to create chaos.
âWhy⊠why would I be involved?â
Leary called for his people to follow him, so I assumed OâHare ran away.Â
Eliot stashed the car in a spot where I could see Hardison and Parker peel around the corner towards the warehouse where it sounded like they picked up OâHare. I listened as they got OâHare to admit to the bank fraud, Learyâs part in it, as well as the Kerrigan hit.
âYes!â I cheered, âHardison, did you record that?â
I heard it played back in my ear as a confirmation.
âThose were the state cops who questioned me!â Leary was back in the warehouse, supposedly with Sophie and Nate.
âWell, do they got any evidence?â Sophie asked.
âNo, no, nothing real, just OâHareâs word against mine.â
âAnd no documents?â
âNo. No, no, I have those. But Kerrigan saw them.â
âAnd thereâs just one problem,â Nate said, âweâre screwed if he wakes up.â
âHe wonât,â Leary replied, âKerriganâs the last loose end. Iâll take care of him myself.â
âHey, hey! Whoa, whoa, wait. What about him?â
âHim? Hey, I never touched him. Your fingerprints are all over him. Iâll clean up my mess, you clean up yours.â
I scoffed at how much of a scummy guy Leary was, âDid he really just say that?â
âAfraid so, y/n,â Nate replied. âSo, howâd you do it?â
I heard a grunt from Eliot, âDetonator⊠Ketchup.â
âAh, the classics.â
âIs that what those gunshots were?â I asked.
âYes, dear, Eliot had a lovely death scene,â Sophie answered excitedly.
Eliot met me back at the car, sliding into the driver's seat.
âAre you okay?â I asked one more time.
He smiled at me, âYeah, I might be a little sore, but fine.â He looked down at his chest, âneed a new shirt though.âÂ
I looked at his shirt, and sure enough, he had holes and ketchup everywhere causing me to laugh.
âWere you okay?â He asked me as he put the car in drive.
âYeah, just had to play hide and seek with some mob guys before getting here, but all good. I was entertained listening to the whole affair from here.â
He rolled his eyes with a smirk as we drove back to the apartment.Â
It was a few days later when Kerrigan was well enough to come into the pub where Nate handed over a check. It was from the IRS for Kerrigan finding the tax fraud. He thanked us and started to walk away, but Zoe stayed for a moment.Â
She hugged me and then Nate, thanking us as well. âThere are wolves in the world,â she said while looking at all of us, âbut sometimes theyâre the good guys, I guess.â She took Nateâs hand and placed what I saw was her necklace in it.
Nate admired it after she walked away.
âStill your last job?â Sophie asked him.
âWell, uh, maybe, umâ Nate stumbled over his words, âI mean, you know, until I find a job I like enough, you know, to stay out of the bars.â
âIdle hands are the devilâs workshop,â Hardison said.
âAnd then Iâm out, Iâm done.â
The others agreed half heartedly, as if they didnât believe him. For the record, I didnât either. Eliot, Parker, and Hardison left, and I followed shortly after, leaving Nate and Sophie alone. It was a crazy life they all led, and I couldnât help but think I couldnât wait until the next time.
I climbed the stairs and glanced at Nateâs door to see it slightly ajar. Curious, I pushed it open and peaked in. Inside I saw Hardison start to set up some TVs.
âHello?â
He looked up at me, âOh, hey! You wanna come help me level this?â
I approached cautiously, but helped nevertheless, âWhat are these for?â
âThese are awesome for briefings and watching cameras, sports too.â
âWhereâs Parker and Eliot?â
âSheâs grabbing some stuff, Eliotâs working next door.â
âNext door-â
The door opened and shut and I looked over to see Nate walk in.
âWhoa, whoa, whoa! What are you doing there?â He said once he saw us.Â
âIâm runninâ this CAT-5 cable to the-â
âOh, no, no, no, no. You donât understand. I donât want to have these monitors in my apartment,â he explained before turning to me, âand why are you helping him?â
I shrugged, âI just didnât ask questions.â
âComing through!â Parker came in holding a large painting.
Nate backtracked towards her, âNo! Parker, no! Not that painting! I donât ever want to see that painting.â
Parker stopped and waved it in front of her as she spoke in a funny voice, âHi, Iâm old Nate and I live here too!â
âYou canât just break in here and start hanging stuffâŠâ
Hardison stopped him, âFor repairs and renovations, your landlord has full access to your dwellings. Itâs in the lease.â
That made me pause, âWhat?â
âWhat are you doing reading my lease?â
âI bought the building!â
âYou bought theâŠâ
âYouâre our landlord?â I hesitantly fist bumped Hardison when he offered it.Â
I flinched when a chainsaw noise started and followed Nate when he found where the noise was coming from. The chainsaw was coming from the other side of the wall through to Nateâs apartment.
Nate repeated no when he saw what was happening, but it was futile. Eliot walked in after cutting out a makeshift door covered in sawdust. He looked very proud of himself, but with the cloud of dust that came out, I couldnât react other than sneeze.
Nate coughed before turning to me, âwhy didnât they do this to your apartment? Youâre the one who wanted them around.â
âWhoa,â Eliot said.
âWeâre not gonna crash a ladyâs apartment,â Hardison finished as if it were a no-brainer.
I huffed out a laugh and a shrug, not fighting it when Hardison and Parker wrapped their arms around Nate and Iâs shoulders. What a day.
Bridgerton Season 3 Review
Ok I sat on it for 24 hours. Watched the episodes about 4 times through...I won't say how many times I've watched the carriage scene because it is an obscene amount of times! So we'll skip that. Either way I'm more focused on the fact I LOVED so much that I don't hate much. in fact why oh why is everyone so focused on parts they hate? I love what we were given in 4 episodes. I wish we could have 22 episodes, but alas we were not so I will cherish what I have. But I guess that's not what I'm here to talk about.
I'll start with the part that EVERYONE seems focused on...
Things I didn't like. (cause damn is anyone ever happy anymore?)
Too many subplots! damn...it was all over the place for a while. While I like the Mondrich's I tired of them quickly. It felt like there was too much of it. And I just didn't need to keep going back to it. Yes you're in society, no you don't want to be. Ok I get it.
Split season - I hate this format. I thought it would be good to have a break in between and Iâm cursing it because it ruins the flow and I donât ever want to do this again! Part 2 YOU MUST MAKE HASTE
But yes that's all I hated.....I said there wasn't a lot. Because I truly didn't hate this season!
Things I didnât love or hate
Fran â I havenât read her book so I was taken by her story with John. They were sweet. It took me a moment to get into what was going on. I loved her scene with Pen. I like that she was nervous and unsure where to go or what to do and that John was a serene moment for her. It seems sweet but againâŠa subplot that felt like it was taking up too much time in this season that needed its own season to ruminate on.
Ben â color me still confused on what they are doing with Benâs story. I am still waiting for them to figure it out. I love Ben, I love his sweet nature and his giddiness but I am still not sure what they are trying to do with him and again, wasnât sure what was going on.
Debling â Ok so why is he here. Well quite simply because I didnât hate him. He wasnât awful. He was very nice and lovely to Pen. I was very happy when she finally told him she didnât like grass. That line alone was adorable. But the part I didnât love was in the pieces where he was going away for 3 years, and he expected her to be there to take care of his home and yet have no other attachments, and no love. He quite clearly told her he had no space for love. He had many other things and was a busy man, so love was not really on his agenda. Yet he expected her to remove that from her life and have no attachments. I am happy he released her because he knew she had an attachment already and couldnât be a woman with none, but I thought that was pretty harsh to expect a lonely woman. So to me Colin was right, he was too particular.
Things I thought worked well!
Sending Kate and Anthony on Honeymoon â I get it. Everyone wants to see them, but I felt they needed to go because the space was already crowded enough with everyone elseâs stories, so to set up the season, something needed to go.
Surprisingly Cressida and Eloise â It gave some depth to Cressida I wasnât expecting. I still hate her, do NOT get me wrong. It gave depth and I felt sorry for her but damn sheâs still gross and not my cup of tea. Sheâs still out to get Pen at every turn and sheâs quick to be evil regardless of knowing better. Evil parents be damned, I donât care for her. I did looove how she turned the gossip piece on El when she wasnât the one who spoiled the news about Pen/Colin and it was actually El who did it. I thought that was a great learning moment for El.
The Brothel scenes â I KNOW I KNOW! Shoot me, tar me, boil me. Whatever, fandom curse on me. I thought they worked and were needed. I felt they did a great job with Colin and showing that he went away to become this society man or what society expected of him. His façade that he pushed and portrayed demanded him to play this part and he played it well. And it ate at him. And the two scenes could not have been more different if they had tried. It was a turning point, the breaking point in his armor and they did a great job with it.
Cocky Colin/Colin with his Buddies Scene - I know many hated this Colin, but I love this facade he played with because it wasn't our Colin and we were supposed to see that, because we didn't get our Colin until he was with Pen more. That was the whole damn point. But I truly loved the scene with Colin and the assholes at the bar. Where he so clearly called them out and realized that the whole charade was simply that and what was the entire point, because he couldn't find it anymore. Kudos to Luke, it was a great scene and the period was added when he shunned them at the Queen's ball.
Violet/Colin Staircase Moment â Really great moment between mother and son. The whole time I kept saying, damn is anyone going to notice that Colin is spiraling. Mom is really focused on her daughter, but no one seems to notice that Colin is a mess. Colin points out to El that Pen has no father to guide her, well neither does Colin! Another point of showing that Pen really is his anchor and without that he is adrift. But this scene was beautifully done as she finally called out to him and sent him in the right direction.
Colinâs change after the kiss â This was really before Debling was in the picture. He was really there following her like a lost puppy from the start, but any suitor he was very interested in how she felt about them but his interest started to change after the kiss. The scene under the tree was very nervous energy, very off his Axis from what we had scene from his bravado in any other scene so far and this was from ONE KISS. He was Colin again.
Eloise â Oh how I was so back and forth with my tears between Pen and El and Colin. My God my heartstrings. I was angry then sad then torn. I donât know how Iâm going to feel in episode 5. Am I angry, excited, freaking terrified at what is coming next. Probably all of the above. But they really played with our emotions and Iâm just not sure how I feel yet so more to come on this.
Things I adored!!
Chaos Colin â Bribing a maid for alone time at night, sneaking off with head nods at balls, meeting under the shade of a tree, sneaking off to the drawing room to set up a pretend ball, flirting with your bestie at the market while recounting your first meeting, chasing after her everywhere she goes, eye fucking her in front of the entire ballroom while trying to get your damn thoughts to catch up, fucking interrupting a goddamn dance to tell her not to marry someone, chasing a carriage down in the middle of the Queens ball to make sure she didnât get married, ravaging her like the Queen she was in the carriage, and then damn proposing like a madman! I meanâŠ.Iâll take that every day!
Penelope Fucking Featherington You Queenâ Our pining came from the Bridgerton side this year, not Penelope. For most of this season, she stood her ground, she had her purpose and she went for her plan and stuck to it. She has been in love with Colin Bridgerton since she graced our screen and he was staring her down like a madman and she stayed her course. You go girl!
The Featheringtonsâ Most of my fun came from their scenes. I could have peed myself when they asked what got inserted. But their scenes were hilarious, and I truly enjoyed the comedy they added. I am anxiously awaiting the Colin/Portia scene in Part 2 because Mama has got hers coming. I was up and down with her and ready to beat her by end of episode 4. I cannot wait to see where this goes.
The Carriage Scene â Did you really think it would not be on here? Because hot holy damn. Nicola winning the battle to touch his hair was so important because Pen did in the book, and it set off fireworks. Did you see the way he watched her like he was marveling at her reaction. Like it was air just to see what he was doing to her. I mean if youâve read the book you know he likes that and itâs something he quite enjoys, well show Colin enjoys it too, that and biting her lip. But the laughing afterâŠthatâs where I live now. That was Pen and Colin and everything I wanted to see. It was perfection! And his face after, his resolve to marry her, Luke put that all out there in 5 seconds, you could see him walk through that decision in his head and then the line was delivered masterfully and here we are now needing to sit for a month to wait to see what fresh hell and heaven await.
And I AM READY FOR IT!
