BUDGETING + SAVING MONEY FOR TEENS 𐙚

For many of us, we are entering an age when we can work casual jobs such as retail or fast food. It’s not a lot of money that we receive, depending on how often you get paid, but it can go a long way in the long term. 
In this post, I’ll be discussing how to budget for your needs/wants and save money for future goals. 
CREATING GOALS, you may want to save a certain amount of money in a time frame, want to make a big purchase (like a car) or buy everything off your wishlist. It is entirely up to you what your goals are, so I can’t say too much. However, the more specific it is, the better.
HOW MUCH? Determine how much money you need to save to achieve your goal. In total, and monthly. 
There are three types of saving goals that may apply to you;
Short-term goals >1 year (outings, latest gadget, buying your cart)
Medium-term goals 1-2 years (road trips, shopping spree)
Long-term goals 2-4 years (higher education, car)
It’s very important to set a realistic time frame, as teens we don’t get paid much and we also don’t work as much. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself as well, as it takes patience and self-control to achieve these goals.
NO LOOONG-TERM GOALS! This may sound aggressive, but any money that just sits in your account for years on end is dead money. Even though the amount of money is increasing, its value is slowly decreasing. Keep your goals achievable within a time frame of less than four years. It's much more useful if this money is put into some type of investment instead. 
CREATING A BUDGET
Calculate how much money you receive every month, and how much money you spend every month. 
You have two types of expenses. Fixed and variable. Fixed are any expenses required in your day-to-day life or it’s an amount of money that doesn’t change e.g. subscriptions or transportation costs. Variable costs are expenses that may fluctuate, like food, or any other recreational activities. 
Record the average you’re spending monthly with these two categories. 
There are many ways people choose to budget, but you have to choose a system that works for you.
Work out how much money you need to save each month to achieve your goal.
However, for anyone who’s starting in budgeting, I would say to allocate your costs using a percentage system. Your percentages for each category are going to differ from mine; e.g. 60% = savings, 20% = wants, 20% needs. Make sure it reflects the end goal. 
Track your progress. This is the major part of budgeting, you want to be recording and regularly reviewing how much money you’re spending and comparing it to how much you’re earning. It allows for space to reflect on the flow of your money like if some purchases are worth it, if you’re impulsively spending, or if you’re frequently withdrawing money from your savings. 
Adjust if needed. Maybe you want to put more money in savings and less into wants, or you want to put more into wants and less into needs. 
SAVING TIPS
SAY NO! This is probably my biggest struggle at the moment, but say no to things that will cause you to go off track. Whether its outings, getting fast-food or anything similar, say no. You have to be firm with your financial boundaries, as these opportunities will always arise again. 
RESTRICT IMPULSIVE SPENDING. We all have our moments when we see a product and we instantly think ‘I’ve got to have this’. Giving in once or twice is okay, but it shouldn’t become a habit at all. Its unnecessary spending (most of the time!) and leads to buyers remorse. 
IS IT WORTH IT? Always remember to work out which products you’re getting the most value out of. 
PAYING FOR THE NAME, a lot of brands will cut down on quality to save a few dollars, so essentially the customer is only paying for the name of that brand. Just because a store is more expensive, doesn’t mean its better.

bandages (you can also go the extra mile and make a mini first aid kit, although this is optional!)
if you have braces, a toothbrush and mini toothpaste in a travel case are a must!

why reset?
To start a new chapter in your life you need to get rid of things that harm you or don't benefit you. So clean out everything starting from physical things like your phone to mental things.
phone reset
-delete old messages and contacts of toxic people
-go through your following on social media
-delete apps and pictures you don't need
-go through your playlists and remove/add songs
-redesign your phone: new phonecase, wallpaper, widgets
room reset
-deep clean your room: vacuum, mop the floor, through away things you don't need anymore
-donate old clothes
-change your bedsheets (at least every 2 weeks)
-open the windows and let fresh air in
physical reset
-eat clean
-do an everything shower: exfoliate, shave, scalp scrub, hair mask...
-oil your hair
-get a haircut and try out something new
-get your mani and pedi done
-try a new workout routine
-do a full skincare routine: oilcleansing, foamcleasing, exfoliating, facemask...
mental reset
-catch up with school
-challenge your mind: puzzle, quiz, a new language or skill
-try journaling
-meditate or pray
-try yoga
-read a new book
-set a screentime limit
-fix your sleep schedule (7-9 hours of sleep)

Present yourself how you wanna be treated.
You set the tone.
You set the vibe.
You make the rules.
You teach people how to treat you.
Save the “casual-ness” for those worthy of it.
Don’t just “let things slide” because you’re “doing someone a favor”
No. There are NO FAVORS when it comes to your worth.
If they’re late- they don’t get another chance unless they make it up.
If they’re making excuses- excuse yourself out of the equation.
If you have a certain love language that they are not willing to love you in - why compromise?
If you are being “bread crumbed” follow that trail back HOME.
You literally hold your standard in your hands.
Do not allow or let someone change or shift what you already know to be TRUE, PRESENT and VALUABLE in your life.
Even the small things. The little things.
You deserve all of that and you need to make sure that someone who is pursuing you understands that boundaries and standards are not just ways to protect yourself but a FINE LINE and the ONLY way to your heart, your space, your mind, your time and your life.
Stop settling for mediocre. Stop giving away free passes. Stop allowing yourself to be taken for granted.
People know exactly how to treat you bc YOU TEACH THEM.
How?
BY LOVING YOURSELF FIRST and allowing someone to see how you do and then proceed to follow.
So love yourself OUT LOUD, how you want to be loved and then love others the same way.
Don’t let some manipulative or narcissistic person come into your life changing things around.
This is YOUR LIFE. You hold the standards. You are the prize.

For the longest time I have been told that what people say about you shouldn't matter and yeah it shouldn't matter.
It does matter though especially when those words lead to someone being hurt.
Words can do irreversible damage.
But what happens when the hurtful words said were spoken at the most vulnerable time in your life. What happens when those words are spoken to a pre-teen trying to find their place in the world?
It's hard enough already trying to fit in but when your peers, the people you seek validation from, begin to point out all your flaws it becomes a whole different story. Well in this case words do matter!
The things said to someone at their lowest and most vulnerable will stick with them for who knows how long. The teenage girl starting puberty you call ugly or too unattractive to be liked by a boy or whoever it is they like will forever remember those words.
HARMFUL WORDS STICK WITH PEOPLE!
Your entire self-concept can be damaged and altered for a long time just because someone made one comment that they thought meant absolutely nothing!
YOU ARE TOO TALL! YOUR NOSE IS TOO BIG! YOU ARE JUST OVERALL UNATTRACTIVE
You aren't attractive enough to be given a sideways glance but somehow even being considered attractive can be such a hard thing.
You may think these words mean nothing when spoken but it means a lot to the person receiving these words.
Why is it that people who are unattractive are too ugly to be treated like a human and someone who is attractive is also unvalidated?
'They are too attractive to have any problems going on in life' and comments like this makes them feel unvalidated, like they aren't even human nor worth the validation.
In that case I'll say it we are human perfect doesn't exist!!
Words carry weight! In a world where being unkind is so prominent please always choose to be kind!
As someone who was considered unattractive by my own peers and sometimes made to feel awful about my weight and appearance by friends and family that shit stays with you. I am 19 almost 20 still struggling with self-acceptance and self-love because of comments made when I was 12 about my appearance.
With that I will always choose self love and acceptance. Grow my darling leave the past behind and be someone YOU are proud of! Validate your own feelings because no one can help you other than yourself.
Don't stay trapped in that bubble of insecurity, love. It'll only ruin you. You are beautiful, smart, kind and sooo much more than what the rest of the world thinks. Life begins when you choose to take charge of your own and put yourself, your needs and happiness first.
There's no room for self-hatred or self-sabotage in your life.
If I could go back in time and tell you how beautiful and worthy you are I would because you deserve it more than you know.
Love yourself more than anything, there's only one you.

𐙚 today was really good, I woke up pretty early and went for a walk and after that I continued with my morning routine, I did lounge around when I was doing pilates bcs my body hurt and I was having this grueling stomach ache, but I did complete today's tasks and the day ended well
achievements:
I created the thumbnail for a vlog
I updated my Bible study notion page
updated some parts of my fitness page and set up workouts for tomorrow
set up tumblr posts for the week ahead
I also made a blog post for the goal tracker notion template
I walked 30 mins in the morning and night
did 12 mins pilates
wasn't really able to study korean

if you're trying to glow up, get healthier, etc, these are the very basics that you absolutely NEED to follow!

01, WATER .ᐟ
Staying hydrated is crucial for your health and wellbeing. While the recommended daily intake is 8 cups of water, you can gradually increase your consumption over a few weeks if that seems too overwhelming. Drinking enough water provides numerous benefits, from clearing skin and flushing out waste, to boosting exercise performance and supporting weight loss. Despite being the very essence that sustains life, water is often underappreciated.
02, FOOD .ᐟ
I used to skip breakfast, thinking it would help me lose weight. However, studies show that those who eat breakfast tend to lose more weight and keep it off longer. The truth is, food is incredibly important. It's best to regulate your eating habits by consuming at least 3 meals per day, even if they're only small portions. Some food is better than no food. If you want to go on a diet, that's fine! but make sure you research healthy dieting methods. At a minimum, eat one serving of fruits and vegetables daily, and try to increase that to five servings per day if possible. Proper nutrition is key for your overall health.
03, HOBBIES .ᐟ
i have this previous post regarding hobbies you could try! It's so important to find fun activities that you genuinely enjoy and look forward to doing. Hobbies add fun to your life and pose as a nice break from technology and the stress of work and school. They also greatly improve symptoms of depression and anxiety. You could do some physical activity, such as a sport you like, or something more calm and creative, like painting or writing.
04, SLEEP .ᐟ
a lot of people struggle to fall asleep at a decent time. Try getting ready for bed early. Personally, I tend to take off my make up and do my skincare immediately after i come home for school/work so i don't have to worry about it before bed.
Technology is probably your sleeping schedule's worst enemy, as the blue light from the screen keeps your brain awake, so try to pause screen-related activities at least an hour before bed. Also, try not to snack 2 - 4 hours before you go to sleep. This is because lying down makes it harder for your body to digest food, which can result in sleeplessness.
Forcing yourself to go to bed super early isn't helpful either. Like I've mentioned in my other points, take things slow and gradual!
05, SOCIALIZATION .ᐟ
Engaging in simple social interactions, such as conversing with family, seeing friends, or greeting people on the street, is incredibly important. Isolating yourself in your room all day accomplishes nothing.
There was a time when I dreaded spending time with friends, convinced I lacked the energy or mood. However, once I forced myself to make plans, I realized how much I genuinely enjoyed their company. Other people are what make life truly worthwhile. So why not reach out to a friend right now and invite them to hang out tomorrow?
06, ACTIVITY .ᐟ
you don't need an exercise routine if you don't want one, but simple physical activity is still a daily necessity! At least 30 minutes is recommended. Personally, i most enjoy plugging in my headphones and going on a walk around my neighbourhood for an hour or two.
07, SELF TALK .ᐟ
Arguably one of my most important points, quit the self-deprecating talk. You never realize how much it affects you until you quit it. Yes, you can absolutely get that assessment done. Yes, you are a likable and amazing person. Just keep affirming and reminding yourself that you are worthy, and you will attract so many good things. Trust me, it will help you so much in the long run.

Glowing up starts in your mind.
You gotta believe you were meant for more.
You have to conquer fear and understand purpose.
You have to be able to wake up everyday believing you deserve the best of the best, you are the main character and you deserve to be loved, abundant and valued.
Don’t give up on being the best version of yourself due to people’s biased opinions, the horrible inner critic that tries to keep you stagnant, or anything that has attempted to keep you from your true essence.
Glowing up is INNER first and then outwardly present. Your aura starts with YOU. Your journey starts with YOU. Your daily actions, consistently and belief of self starts with YOU.
You deserve to be the bestest version of yourself because God made you worthy of life and love.
Allow yourself to receive the fullness of life by becoming the person you were ALWAYS meant to be.
