i believe the reason why knowing multiple languages feels like losing vocab in all of them is that the brain doesn't differentiate across such arbitrary lines, a word is a word and it all goes into the same pile. so when you restrict yourself to a single language you're effectively only using 1/2 or 1/3 etc of your total vocab ie. losing words

I think a big problem in our culture is equating intent and effect, and this works both when predicting the effect and when determining the cause. It is important to remember that just as having good intentions does not excuse the harm one causes, so does someone having caused harm not always mean they intended to cause harm all along.

We are able to know our own thoughts, so when we cause harm we may easily downplay it because "that's not what I intended", as if that would make the harm go away. And when we judge others who cause harm, we similarly try to work backwards from the assumption that harm requires intent - and since we see the harm but not the intent, we assign intent somewhere where it may not even exist.

None of this is to excuse people who cause harm, but maybe to clarify that what we call evil is not some nefarious satanic mindset of ill intent, but rather a stubborn unwillingness to critically examine whether you might be causing harm even if you don't actively intend to, and even whether or not you truly care.

And the more power you have, the easier it is to distance yourself from the harm you cause and keep causing it.

The Cigarette Theory

This "theory" is essentially a philosophical model to understand the "roller-coaster life", or atleast how it is thought of by those who pursue it.

Birth/Lighting a cigarette:

The lighting of a cigarette is essentially coming to this world and getting a hold on out bodies and mind, i.e., being born.

The Smoking:

From the time of us being born, we want our lives to be as memorable and thrilling as possible, taking as many puffs as we can.

(After all if they don't, the fire extinguishes beforehand and they died before they should've)

Death/The cig light dying:

Then, comes the inevitable, the demise of the body, the cig light is gone, and it's crushing, our funeral.

But of course, the soul, us, can look forward to getting a new vessel, lighting up a new cig, with the same if not greater enthusiasm.

(Different from what i usually do, but still something I thought of)
