Octocon iOS testing opens soon!

Hi, everyone! I've been hard at work for the past week porting Octocon to iOS, and the app is in a nearly fully functional state!

We're currently just waiting on Apple to approve the transfer of our developer account to our newly formed LLC, and then we'll be onboarding testers to TestFlight as soon as possible.

Octocon is a new app for systems. It's traumacentric and made by traumagenic systems. It also has a discord bot that is a lot easier to use than pk in my opinion. You can also sync your app and the bot so you can edit alters in the app. The app is on android already and coming to IOS soon. Hope this helps some people :)

(If you're in a server, I recommend adding this bot as more people are starting to use it instead of pk and tupperbox)

Apps we use as a system !

Simply plural!

Simply plural is a great app for Systems! it allows you to track who's fronting, add more in depth information about who's fronting, Sort headmates out into groups, it also has a chat function.

Negatives: whilst it is a great app! it is more ideal for Smaller to medium sized Systems or Systems that switch solidly or for longer periods of time, as a bigger system outself, we find it quite difficult to use Sometimes, as it can be difficult for us regrading having to get up and log things.

they are also supportive of endogenic "Systems" and their resources do contain misinformation.

Octocon!

octocon is very similar to simply plural!

you can add headmates, categorise them, it also has a bit directly in discord, so it could be easier for some systems to use! It also has a diary feature! we have less to say about this as we personally don't use it, but it could be helpful for other systems!, it is currently only on andriod but will be releasing on IOS late 2024/2025

we feel that the app is quite clunky and can be difficult to use, especially if your already using apps like simply plural.

they also have a limit on how many alters profiles you can create to "limit the amount of fakers" - to specify direct quote from the official octocon server linked on there website, “the alter limit is to basically protect against ddos attacks, without the limit someone could take up an unreasonable amount of the bots resources and crash it. theres no way to go past it, and nobody so far has gotten close to going past the alter limit as far as we know.” I heard the term fakers being thrown around, I also assume that by “fakers” they mean endo “systems” but still the tone is there and it rubs me the wrong way considering systems that have high high alter counts (such as ourselfs) :)

Notion!

Notion is a great app! we personally dont use it to track our system but we know many Systems that do! it can easily be used for tracking fronts, alters, giving alters journal pages etc! it's very easy to use for beginners and there are many tutorials on YouTube about it! It is also used by a alot of singlets too!

our only criticism is that it isn't built for Systems! So you would need to build it all yourself or use templates if that makes sense which we know for Some Systems could be a struggle!

Mindly

Mindly is a very easy to use app, which is commonly used for making innerworld maps! It's very simply to visualise and understand!

Our negatives for mindly are that there is a limit on how many maps you can make, if you are like us for example and have different layers in your system you wouldn't be able to make multiple maps for those layers, also it is very limited on how you can customise your bubbles, with only the colour, text and emoji

Fortelling

Fortelling is a great app! you can use it to create innerworld maps every easily! being able to include images and in-depth describes also!, we also use it to create split/fussion maps, and you can also use it similarly to Simply plural as you can add in depth information and also custom fields!

Anytype

Anytype is a good app for creating private journal pages for headmates!

It's a great way to allow alters there own private space to express themselves

Our negatives is that it can be quite confusing when you first start using the app, and it could get confusing if you are a bigger System

Twinote

we love twinote! it's such a fun way to communicate with your headmates! the app is very similar to twitter but it's completely private! alters can completely create there own profiles and communicate with each other very easily!, we also know singlets that use it for role playing also! :)

Daylio

We use daylio well daily! it's a great way to track things like switches or Symptoms eta very simply! we also use it for non system related things just like sleep, school, our mood etc!! It's been so helpful for us and our doctors!

I have been made aware of a new app for us (It's anti-endo)

The app is called Octocon, and it's only on Samsung/Android right now. (IOS is coming soon)

what are the names of some tools yall use to track your systems? we know of pluralkit and simplyplural and we heard about octocon at some point last night but that's not on ios. i think there's a pronoun type website that lets you track headmates? honestly updating simplyplural is too complicated and pluralkit is public so we're looking for alternatives that scratch the right itch in our brain.

Once Octocon comes out on IOS, we intend to test it and compare it to SP. While we love SP, it just doesn't scratch the specific needs we have for our system. And you know... It's not like they can ban us from not using it. Lightning won't come down and strike us upon downloading the app. And if we don't like it? That's fine, we'll continue to use SP. -A

Not really? We don’t have Tourette’s, but there will be times we’ll have a couple small tics but other than that I’d say no! We do share a lot of stims, but those are very different (and I’m not trying to equate the two! Just thought it was smt to mention :] )

Yes!! We have PK, SP, and Octo! We do have an apple phone so we can’t get the Octocon app, but when it released on iOS we’ll probably switch over to that. Not saying SP is a bad option, but I feel like the convenience of happing the app sync to the bot would save us a lot of time.

Yes! Quite a few, actually! A lot of them are human-adjacent but not quite human, but there’s still a good chunk that are completely different :]

Hi, I would like to ask for your thoughts on this new application many of my acquaintances have been buzzing about. It's called Octocon, from what I understand, it's meant to be 2 apps in a package like Pluralkit and Simply Plural, but targetted for DID/OSDD. At first, that grabbed my attention, but honestly it looks like a copy-paste of the two, without addressing the many issues the mentioned apps had that made it inaccessible for anyone dissociative. So I'd be curious for your own thoughts on it too, as it's fairly recent

I only have iOS, so it doesn't seem like it's something I'll be able to review, but I'm looking forward to seeing what it's all about.. Because any app made for DID isn't going to be perfect, but it's interesting to see how they try...

One of the things that stood out to me:

(Register fronting push notifications with friends)

Immediately I went ಠ_ಠ; because even with the people I want to know who's fronting, to have that consistently be an option would freak!!! me!!! out!!! I'm certain it's something you don't have to do, but I always question who it's for in general to have a thing that constantly Tells Everyone who's fronting. (I just don't believe any system can fully consent to always being on display like that, esp because parts coming out always have Context attached and thats very exposing when people Know)

Very interesting and also sounds exactly like something I would not use regularly! But when it comes to iOS I'd be happy to try for a week

Obligatory no one is ever forced to listen to critique esp if its not asked for directly, and I know there are plenty of people who regularly use Simply Plural and bots and things who would love this sorta thing. Eeeeverything on my blog is based entirely on my opinion

What is Octocon?

Octocon is the modern, all-in-one platform for people with dissociative disorders (like DID and OSDD) to manage their disorder and express themselves!

We provide a mobile application (currently available for Android) that lets you manage your alters, track your front history, keep a daily journal, and keep your friends up-to-date on who's fronting.

We also provide a Discord bot that automatically syncs with the Octocon app to let you send messages as your alters.

FAQ

How do I use Octocon?

You can get started by downloading our mobile app on the Google Play Store, or by inviting our Discord bot to your Discord server!

When will the app be available for iOS or other platforms?

The iOS app has a projected launch date of late 2024 to early 2025!

We also plan on developing a web app, but it's further down the backlog, so we don't have an exact time frame yet.

Is the platform safe/secure? Will you look at my data?

Octocon takes privacy and security extremely seriously. We will never peek into your data stored on our platform without explicit consent, regardless of how you identify.

We'll also never terminate an account for any reason other than abuse of our platform or suspicions of illegal activity.

Furthermore, we take great effort to secure our servers, and all of your data is private by default. If you'd like an alter to be shared with your friends or publicly, you'll have to explicitly set them as such!

Are you "anti-endo"?

Octocon takes the stance of being "traumacentric"; our platform is designed to be used by those with dissociative disorders caused by trauma, though we can not and will not ban or otherwise impede users from accessing our platform if they don't identify as such.

We do ask that our Discord communities remain traumagenic-only spaces for the comfort of our members, but we are actively against harassment of those who identify as non-traumagenic.

**The app.**

The anchor of our platform is the Octocon app: a modern, intuitive, and secure application for Android and iOS. It includes the following functionality (and more!):

**The bot.**

We also provide a separate way to manage most of the app's features: the Octocon Discord bot! You can edit your alters' attributes through the bot's slash commands just like the app, in addition to the ability to create **proxies**.

Proxies allow you to send a message like `a-Hello there!` in an Octocon-enabled server and have the bot send `Hello there!` as a given alter in its place. It's like having multiple Discord accounts in one, each automatically synced with your alters' information!

**The community.**

You're here right now! Here, you can chat with other systems, discuss development of our platform and make suggestions, and get notifications about updates and maintenance. Read the rules and you'll be good to go!

**Get started.**

To get started, go into any channel with the Octocon bot and run the `/register` command. Documentation is being worked on, but feel free to ask or check the faqs if you have any questions!

Looking into that new app Octocon and this post will be my thoughts on it

Firstly this app isn't avalible on apple products and is android only for the moment, an IOS closed beta is planned for the end of the year

Secondly the creators are Anti-endo in nature but do not condone harassment slightly more info at the end

ONTO MY THOUGHTS !

Pros:

You can import alters from Simplyplural or Pluralkit

Discord bot automatically puts pronouns after members name when proxying if pronouns are set

The app and discord bot automatically sync

There's a journal feature both for the system as a whole as individual alters, making it easier to leave other alters messages or write journal notes for yourself, the system wide journal is useful for writing down important events especially if you have amnesia barriers it's useful for writing key things that happened or appointment reminders aswell as being a general way to journal

It has a mode that shows it as a news site when you open it and you double tap the icon to get to the actual app

It has a quick exit feature that let's you double tap anywhere that isnt a button twice and it automatically closes the app perfect for closing it without seeming like you just closed an app

The discord bot auto proxy is global and applies to all servers it's in once set

The discord bot if on the latch auto proxy will automatically proxy as the last proxy used and this is also cross server

Cons:

When I imported from Simplyplural none of the avatars carried over meaning we have to redo all of them but everything else carried over fine

No chat feature meaning if you have trouble speaking in inner you have to talk in discord or another app

Doesn't tell you how to make a member register as fronting (double swipe to <- side)

No tutorial

You need to exit a member profile to save it which can be annoying if the app crashes

Front history is harder to read compaired to Simplyplural imo

Loading avatars, opening journal entries and opening avatar profiles can take a few seconds to open/load and I've had to restart the app a few times to make journal entries load

Overall:

Overall I think it's a good app

The auto sync is nice since I dont have to worry about making sure all our alters are registered to both the proxy bot and app like with Simplyplural and Pluralkit

It has the potential to be great and better than Simplyplural imo

I enjoy the way the app looks and the way you navigate and I prefer it over Simplyplural

For now I will be using Octocon for our alter information as for us it's easier to use and more convenient

Not knowing when octocon will come to iOS and wondering if it’s worth downloading and learning how to use pluralkit in the meantime.

Also debating whether or not it’s a great idea for us to use an app at all, knowing half of us will forget to even use it.

they lie about being anti endo or neutral, they're fully pro or too coward to actually state theyre anti (they read to me like an anti behind closed doors, but that's just hearsay. up front they are thinly veiled pro endo, it's very easy to read between the lines and see their pro endo statements.)

he lead dev and a few of their mods/friends are just straight up. fucking assholes, and not well suited to a front facing position. sure you know how to code and that's great, but holy fuck get a PR team or at least take a seminar and get off your high horse. anything short of unanimous praise is seen as instigation rather than valid criticism and thats not something I feel comfortable supporting in a service teared towards traumatized, OEA survivors and gaslight omg survivors and myriads of other abuses. get a fucking handle on your attitude, Atlas.

furthermore, some features such as global autoproxy, despite the warnings they're on, just it existing as a feature is very unsafe and criticism towards that was met with scorn. they're also very unable to demonstrate how this service, as opposed to lighthouse, SP, and PKIT are geared *specifically towards* traumagenic systems. there's not really... anything separating them from those services. the app updating the discord client is nice, but not nice enough to indicate trumagenic exclusive features or any type of actual mental health support tool as they advertise.

it feels more like a coding project that got publicized, which is all well and good but theres not really been thought put behind why other users should be using this and how it can help beyond "hey I could code the same thing SP and PKIT did". the clear lack of system knowledge, generally how it operates as a disorder and any medical/psychiatric study leads me to categorize this as a PKIT/SP clone rather than anything of its own merit.

Diversity of products/brands are good, and I'm not saying SP or PKIT should have a monopoly on these programs, but I see no reason to adopt this into any servers I mod or am admin in when the dev(s) are absolute shitbags in attitude and the development is well away from complete. last I checked, they were still linking towards the iOS app through a button that just leads to a dead link, something they had to clarify several times in their original discord server. bro. take the fucking button down and put "coming soon". it's simple, easy, and free, and you're not misleading a demographic that is frequently easily disoriented and confused. like, that's just mean.
