Niacinamide: The Magical Ingredient
Innovations in skincare have been all the rave. As someone who considers myself a skin-intellectual, (courtesy of Cassandra Bankson on YouTube), I pride myself on learning about ingredients that would work the best for my skin. One of those ingredients is niacinamide, which boasts a multitude of skin-boosting benefits. Whether it is hyperpigmentation, support for a compromised skin barrier, or…

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum is a popular skincare product known for its ability to target various skin concerns. Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, helps to regulate oil production, minimize pores, and improve uneven skin tone. Zinc, on the other hand, aids in controlling sebum production and has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for acne-prone skin. Together, they work to improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin, making it a staple in many skincare routines. It's generally recommended to use it in the morning and/or evening after cleansing and before applying heavier creams or moisturizers.

A guide to dry skin !! ˚˖𓍢ִ໋🌷͙֒✧˚.⋆
As both dry skin and eczema girly I have learned that I really need to be cautious of my skincare and body care (which I chose to ignore back then and ended up stripping my skin TwT) to prevent white flakes obliterating my face every morning and night. So for all my combination/dry skin fellas out there that need tips, I gotchu! -- to the best of my knowledge.ヾ( ̄▽ ̄)
Tumblr media
To decide whether you have a dry skin type, try to find out if you often get flaky, rough, or tight feeling on your skin after washing your face with a normal cleaner. Dry skin can also constantly get itchy most likely due to dehydration, if you feel confident about your skin type being dry, then you're recommended to focus on keeping your face moisturized and hydrated. And lastly, make sure you're getting enough vitamin D, vitamin A, niacinamide, zinc, or iron as being deficient in these nutrients can result in dry skin.
I recommend you try out products containing hyaluronic acid, glycerin, aloe vera extract, and ceramides since these are very fresh for your skin! And it's best to stay away from harsher ingredients like alcohol, isopropyl, and sulfates also preventing too much scrubbing/exfoliating!
Now, it's finally time for my favorite parts, skincare recommendations! From the products I have (bravely) tried for the sake of healing my skin, I will leave out a few product recommendations that I LOVE with my favorite ingredients from each of them -- please feel free to also leave out your skincare recommendations, I'd trust more than tiktok, but of course, do research beforehand.
Aera's 2024 Skincare favs 🧼🌸𓏲⋆ ִֶָ ๋𓂃 ⋆ᡣ𐭩
Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Toner: Glycerin, Sea water, Panthenol
Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-cica Water-fit Sun Serum: Glycerin, Butylene glycol, Centella asiatica, Hyaluronic acid
Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Moist Cream: Glycerin, Hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E
Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel (Unscented): Glycerin, Butylene glycol, Sodium chloride
Johnson's Baby Oil
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (Berry)
Nivea Rich Care & Color (French Pink)
Skintific Mugwort Acne Clay Stick: Niacinamide, Salicylic acid, Centella
I swear by these products and I will invest on them 4ever!! I really hoped these help you girlies to get new insights about skincares and your skin, I'll be making more of these cause I really do enjoy making them, if u have any requests, feel free to!

If we want to promote the boycott of is-not-reali products, we need to give substitutes and options for it.
Now, I also remember sisters asking me for my skincare/haircare routines, and I wanted to give a detailed article on that, but now it ain't about the time.
So, here, I'll try to compile these two topics.
Skincare that's effective without using any israeli/american product.
First of all, I don't have a skincare routine. I don't follow any step by step process. But, I do use products that help me keep my skin clean and hydrated.
And the most important advice I'll give to sisters is not to go for "skincare brands" that give pea sized products in bag size money. These industries are mostly scam. Always go for drugstore products. Those that are created for medicinal purposes oriented towards genuinely healing the skin problems. And if you don't have any active skin problems, don't expose your face to various products for achieving "perfect skin". There's nothing like that. Normal skins have occasional pimples, pigmentations, dark spots and uneven texture.
Anyway.
If you're going for drugstore products...
Go for phrama companies like Cipla and Reddy's Laboratories.
I personally use Reddy's Venusia Max moisturizer as my skin gets extremely dry often. If you have dry n normal (combination) skin you can use it. And if you have oily skin, go for squalane based moisturizers from Derma Co.
Next in line, if you want to use any serums, vit C is best for skins and there's a product by Cipla "Rivella Vit C and HA Serum" it's soothing, and effective. Alhamdulillah.
As a face cleanser or what you call as face wash, there are very brilliant new company products from DeConstruct that I love love love because they are so gentle on face and keep your pH balance and moisture intact (great substitute for Dove soap)
Then there's one more important aspect on skincare that's protection from UV...so you'll need a sunscreen. Go for Regaliz Truederma SPF 50. It's efficient. Alhamdulillah. Or Minimalist Suncreen spf 60 + Niacinamide incase you wanna go economically minimalistic. Derma Co Zinc Sunscreen is good too (one that comes in orange coloured pack)
Now, these four things are more than enough to keep your skin good.
Cleanser, Serum, Moisturizer, Sunblock.
Apart from that if you still wanna have some extra products...not from drugstore but excellent Indian brands...then Go for Pilgrim or Minimalist. They have best the ranges in every product.
And then comes Haircare...
Boycott Garnier. Boycott Loreal Paris. Boycott Head n Shoulders.
Go for St. Botanica. The Shampoos are sooooo great. Allahummaabaarik. SLS, Paraben Free, Actually formulated for cleaning dirt from hairs and reduce hair problems. Conditioners too are effective and they actually work as they advertise. If not St. Botanica, mamaearth would be good...but I didn't see it's results as best as St. Botanica.
For lipbalms though, you can go for Mamaearth. The shades are subtle and help keep your lips hydrated and avoid pigmentations. Stop using Ponds, Vaseline, Nivea. .PLEASE!!!! Their lipbalms do nothing but make your lips darker and greasy.
Makeup, I don't use tbh. But few years back, I had gotten a lipstick from MyGlamm and a Foundation of Biotique. They were good. You can go for it.
Bodywashes, Feet scrubs - Bodywise
Hair removal gels/creams - Sirona
Perfumes - Ajmal / Maison De Fouzdar are best. No doubt.
I'm sharing this post not to promote any sort of "self care" in this situation....but as an essential need of substitutes. Infact these substitutes are way better and effective than the Israeli American products we've been wasting our money on.
I have tried to mention most of the things used by women because that's the biggest market for Israeli products.
If you are an Indian, promote Indian brands 'cause we gotta "make in India" ;)
For that we need to use only that which is "made in India"
Go ahead...you can add anything else I might've missed. And yes...If any Mother's seeing this, let us know baby products that are made in India.

Skincare and Magic:
I'm finally doing another one of these posts, this time I'm focusing on skincare. Disclaimer that I am not a dermatologist or an expert in skincare at all, I just enjoy it as a part of my everyday ritual magic. Skincare is a very personal thing because your skin is unique to you, I'm not recommending products this is more around the concept of using skincare for magic. With that being said, on with the post:
Cleansers:
Wash off Cleansers can be amazing as a way to wash away negativity, give yourself a fresh start and really make yourself feel new.
- you can draw sigils or runes on your skin as you cleanse, washing away negativity.
- Cleansing balms and oils, anything you don't wash off with water, are much better at not only gently cleansing your skin but also a much more calming energy than something like a water based foam or gel cleanser.
Serums:
Next, if you're doing your normal routine, comes serums. These sink into your skin and have all kinds of different properties. (I personally use a niacinamide and zinc serum to reduce acne and redness).
- look into what each serum does, as this will really determine how it's used. For example, niacinamide is a chemical exfoliant, so i use it to banish negativity and give myself a refresh. Something like hyaluronic acid, however, is better at caring for your skin and adding in some positivity, and less about exfoliation.
- I'm not a big fan of anti-aging products, because we all age and I don't think it's something to be afraid of. But if you use something like retinol it can be useful for renewal spells and suchlike.
Moisturisers:
Moisturisers are a great way to be kind to yourself, not only physically but spiritually. Take a moment to gently apply it, really feeling your skin and appreciating it and yourself. I use moisturisers primarily as a form of quiet mindfulness.
- you can also draw sigils on your face and body with moisturisers to add to any spell or ritual you are currently working on. I combine mine with a magical oil (and my emollient cream because I have psoriasis) to add protection after a shower.
Sun cream:
Even if you're not big into skin care, this is an easy one to do. Sum cream literally protects you from damaging UV rays, and so it isn't much of a stretch to link it to protection spells. Since you apply this last, it acts as a barrier between you and negativity, anything harmful you might encounter. Draw a banishing sigil with it to enhance this, or embrace the sun angle and use it as a vehicle to absorb the positive energies of the sun without damaging your skin.
Face masks:
There are so many different types of face masks, but I will list a few examples here
- Clay masks (unsurprisingly) help strengthen your connection to the earth and grounding energies.
- Charcoal masks are great for protection, its basically black salt but for your face.
- Peeling masks come in so many different forms it's impossible to say what they all might do, but the general idea is all about renewal. Shedding that layer of dead skin literally and metaphorically.
Don't use face masks too often as most of them have ingredients that will be harsh on your skin if used too regularly. Once a week or every two weeks is best. They are a great addition to a moon ritual or bath (though some masks won't dry while you're in the bath due to the humidity).

Ok but ultimate skincare routine? Your skin looks fab ✨ (if the answer is I like to scrub my face with clear water I'll take it too)
thank you kindly! I’m finally at the stage where I’ve stopped Trying New Things because I’ve found a routine and a selection of products that work perfectly for me. (acting like it was a choice and not that Into The Gloss stopped putting out content and therefor I stopped being influenced by Top Shelves.)
- I cleanse with DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, which is my favourite and the best cleanser I’ve ever used. the hype is real. when I’m feeling too lazy for it I cleanse with Baby Lotion on a cotton pad (amazing makeup remover) followed by micellar water.
- I exfoliate with Glossier Solution. I’m probably on my 5th bottle of it, and I got my girlfriend hooked as well. it is phenomenal. when I first bought it I was like THIS DOESN’T DO ANYTHING EXCEPT STING but I stuck with it and it’s now a holy grail product. if I run out I panic.
- the only serum I really use is The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (I’ve also used Glossier Super Pure which is niacinamide and zinc and liked that too).
- in the summer I use Nivea Q10 day/night creams to moisturise, and in the winter I use regular ol’ Nivea or Glossier After Baume if I’m reeeeeally dry. it’s so thick it’s like Playdoh, I love it.
- the only thing I’m still Trying To Decide On is retinol; I’ve used a couple of different brands (Boots Ingredients and The Inkey List, both fine) but haven’t noticed enough of a change/improvement in my skin to become hooked. obviously I would also love to try Lotion P50, but I have bills to pay.
- SPF. luckily before I ‘got into skincare’ I was still a super pale redhead, so I always did SPF. I HAD NO CHOICE. I try to use a special face one and not just slap on my Nivea Sun Baby 50+ Very High, but sometimes I just slap on my Nivea Sun Baby 50+ Very High, especially in the summer. I’m currently using a La Roche-Posay one, but I’m not brand loyal.
- I’m wringing the life out of a tube of Sunday Riley’s Good Genes that my aunt bought me as a gift. if I was slightly richer it would be on my biannual shopping list.
- if I do get a spot, I whack a hydrocolloid patch on it. COSRX have great ones, but the Hydro-Star ones are so much cuter.
all of this with the disclaimer that both of my parents have always had clear skin and I wear very little makeup. you won’t catch me putting anything heavier than a bb cream on my face. both times I’ve had ‘professional makeup’ done to me I arrived with clear skin and could feel myself breaking out halfway through the wedding breakfasts. diet-wise I would die before cutting out dairy and carbs but I do drink a lot of water! HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ON YOUR SKINCARE JOURNEY!!

Hello! If you do have any recommendations for skincare I would like them, acne is annoying lmao
OH BOY YES I DO!
okay so all skin has different sensitivities and needs and all that so what works for me might not work for you. there's a lot of different avenues you can go down for acne treatment but I'll try to go through things I know work for most people
this is gonna be long so putting it under a read more
first off, you gotta be washing your face twice a day if you don't already. I use cetaphil daily face wash which you can find in most drugstores, but another drugstore brand I've heard is very good is cervave! both brands have several different kinds of face wash, some that are more specific for acne, some that are hydrating if you have issues with dry skin, and some that are made for sensitive skin if you deal with irritation. I'd go through the different products they have and see what looks like it'd work best for you
most acne-specific face products use salicylic acid since that's a chemical proven to reduce oil and all that, but if you've used salicylic acid stuff and don't notice any improvement, you might want to try benzoyl peroxide acne products! panoxyl is another drugstore brand that carries acne face and body washes with benzoyl peroxide, and I use that for my chest and back acne (jury is still out as to if its actually helping or not. I'm still trying to figure out if salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide works better. do your research on both to see which one will work better for you!)
now if you want to add more than just face wash there is a whole variety of serums out there! my god tier, number one serum that I don't know how I lived without until now is niacinamide. niacinamide has been proven through research trials to be effective in reducing the amount of sebum (oil produced from your pores) your skin produces, and also reduces redness in skin. there are a lot of serums you can get that's a mix of stuff with niacinamide in it, but if you want a serum that's just straight up niacinamide (which I would recommend if you want to test out if it actually benefits you) both good molecules and the ordinary sell bottles of it for $6. the ordinary's serum is 10% niacinamide with 1% zinc, with the zinc there because I guess it's hydrating? good molecules is just 10% niacinamide without any zinc. there really isn't much of a difference between the two products, but for some reason good molecules serum worked way better for my skin than the ordinary's did, although I've known plenty of people who use the ordinary's version and love it.
(note: while both bottles say you can apply these niacinamide serums twice a day, in clinical trials it was shown that 5% niacinamide is what's effective on skin and they have no evidence higher concentrations does anything. so since these are both 10% niacinamide, you might want to just apply it once a day to reduce any risk of irritation)
if you have oily skin you might be hesitant about using moisturizer, but you have to use it bc if you try to dry your skin out your skin will just produce excess oil in response. what you want to look for in a face moisturizer is anything that's oil-free and non-comedogenic, which means it won't clog your pores. ideally, get a moisturizer that has spf in it as well (at least spf 30), that way you don't have to add an extra step to apply sunscreen on your face every day. right now I use cetaphil's daily face moisturizer with spf 35, but before that when I was a teen I used cetaphil's dermacontrol oil absorbing moisturizer with spf 30. the difference is that the dermacontrol is a bit more expensive, but it works to reduce the oil on your face so it's for people who really struggle with oily acne-prone skin. both products are oil-free and non-comedogenic so neither one will clog your pores. which one you use just depends on how oily your skin is
as far as taking care of individual pimples, while I've tried spot treatments with salicylic acid from the ordinary and good molecules, I don't really notice them doing much for me. what DOES make a difference is hydrocolloid pimple patches which dry out the skin and can really help reduce pimples. I like panoxyl's pimple patches, and you can get a pack of 40 for $8-$10
these are just the essentials for me! if you want any more 'special' products like masks or exfoiliants or oils lmk and I'll make a post about those but this is already long enough lol. I linked the products to their brand websites but you can find most of these either in drugstores, on amazon, or in stores like ulta or sephora
hope this helps!

Unlocking Radiant Skin: The Ordinary Skincare Tips for Girls
In the fast-paced world of skincare, finding a routine that works for you is crucial. If you're a girl looking to enhance your beauty regimen, The Ordinary has got your back. This powerhouse brand is renowned for its affordable yet effective products, making it a go-to for skincare enthusiasts. Here are some tips tailored just for you:
1. Understand Your Skin Type: Before diving into The Ordinary's vast product range, identify your skin type. Whether you have oily, dry, combination, or sensitive skin, The Ordinary offers targeted solutions for every need. Knowing your skin type ensures you choose products that address your unique concerns.
2. Start with the Basics: If you're new to The Ordinary, begin with the essentials. A gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen are fundamental steps in any skincare routine. The Ordinary's Squalane Cleanser and Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA are excellent starting points, providing a clean canvas for the rest of your routine.
3. Incorporate Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic Acid is a game-changer for hydration. The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a lightweight serum that boosts moisture retention, leaving your skin plump and supple. Apply it before your moisturizer to maximize its hydrating benefits.
4. Target Specific Concerns: Whether you're dealing with acne, hyperpigmentation, or fine lines, The Ordinary has a solution. For acne-prone skin, try the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. To address hyperpigmentation, the Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA is your ally. For anti-aging, the Retinol 0.2% in Squalane can work wonders when used cautiously.
5. Layering Matters: To get the most out of your products, layer them correctly. Generally, start with the thinnest consistency and work your way up. For example, apply water-based serums before creams or oils. This ensures each product is absorbed effectively, maximizing their benefits.
6. Don't Forget Sunscreen: Sunscreen is non-negotiable in any skincare routine. The Ordinary offers various sun protection options, such as the Mineral UV Filters SPF 30 with Antioxidants. Regular use protects your skin from harmful UV rays and prevents premature aging.
7. Be Consistent: Skincare is a marathon, not a sprint. Consistency is key to seeing results. Stick to your routine and give products time to work. Results may not be immediate, but with patience, you'll notice improvements in your skin's texture and appearance.
8. Customization is Key: The Ordinary empowers you to create a personalized routine. Mix and match products to address your specific needs. However, introduce new products gradually to avoid overwhelming your skin.
In conclusion, The Ordinary offers a treasure trove of skincare options for girls seeking an affordable yet effective routine. Remember, it's not about the quantity of products but the quality and how well they cater to your skin's needs. Embrace these tips, stay consistent, and let The Ordinary elevate your skincare journey. Your radiant skin awaits!
