Now that both Lan Zhan and Jiang Cheng are frozen in place and staring at him like idiots, Wei Wuxian takes a step back levels a stern look at them, hoping that neither of them can tell that he'd been crying. He's scolding someone for getting into a fight at an inoportune time. Something has gone terribly wrong.

Oh, right. He's pregnant with Lan Zhan's baby. He's pregnant with a baby that Lan Zhan doesn't want. Everything is terrible and wrong.

No, he can't think like that. It's not fair to Lan Zhan.

"Come back with me to Lotus Pier," Jiang Cheng says abruptly, still with that strange look on his face. "I told you to believe in Lan Wangji and he's made a liar out of me." Both Lan brothers look startled at that. Jin Guangyao even raises an eyebrow. "The Jiang will take care of you. Have the child, don't, it doesn't matter. I said you'd be safe and you will be."

Oh, Jiang Cheng.

His heart seizes. His honorable, idiotic little brother. He wishes he could go over there and ruffle his hair and kiss his cheeks. "It's alright, Jiang Cheng. It's - it's not a problem. If Wangji does not want the child, we will not have the child. It's fine."

He feels like he's going to throw up and he hasn't even eaten anything.

honestly i'd argue wwx's perspective makes more excuses for jc than he deserves lmao

It’s actually one of the funniest non-comedic things about mdzs: Wei Wuxian shows a crumb of sympathy for an antagonist, consideration to their reputation, or an unwillingness to rehash their cruelty towards him, and the narration comes in swiftly behind him with a ruler smacking against its palm, staring down the audience and going “Wei Wuxian may not say it, and he may not even know it, but you know, reader, so don’t you dare go soft on this villain, now.”

Some memorable places for me where this happens:

Wei Wuxian saying that he can’t remember why he climbed the tree as a child in Chapt. 87, meanwhile the audience has already been shown in Chapt. 86 that Wei Wuxian ran up the tree because Jiang Cheng threatened him with dogs.

Wei Wuxian in Chapt. 54 saying in the xuanwu of slaughter cave that “he got hurt a lot” with no context, just for us to get the flashbacks showing that Madam Yu targeted him for punishment due to petty jealousy and Wei Wuxian saying in Chapt. 87 post-resurrection that Madam Yu liked to punish him for any and every matter and the Lotus Pod Seeds extra showing us that Madam Yu would whip Wei Wuxian to vent her unrelated anger and even other residents would target him first with violence over the other shidi.

Wei Wuxian in Chapt. 86 questioning the truth and convenience of Bicao deciding to speak out against Jin Guangyao and Sisi suddenly regaining her freedom only after Jin Guangyao was exposed for having orchestrated the ambush at the second siege, except the we already know these “unproven claims and rumors” are true because the narration already exposed all of the incest claims in Chapt. 47, and Sisi’s claims are verified by Jin Guangyao, himself in Guanyin Temple.

Wei Wuxian knows what it’s like to be unfairly slandered without anyone to defend him simply because his detractors are the most popular people on the room, so he definitely tries to be the voice of reason to avoid falling into mob mentality. At the same time, he is not one to dwell in the wrongs others have done to him, so he is the last person to rehash his traumatic childhood over and over to anybody who even glances in his direction. That shit happened almost 20 years ago, his abusive guardian is dead, and her abusive son is out of his life. No need to keep reliving it just for some sympathy.

you didn't like having a lights out whenever you were alone, it made you feel uneasy. you can only have lights off when you were with kento.

your arms are tightly locked around the white teddy bear which is a tad bit larger than you are. your eyelashes rested softly on your cheeks, breathing mellow and stable. your lips are softly parted as snores emit from them, the sound bouncing off of the walls.

you stirred a bit, thinking you heard footsteps. still too deep in dreamland, you brushed it off and went back to sleep, ignoring whatever was around you.

not too long after, you felt your body being enveloped by a fluffy blanket. warmth quickly engulfed your senses and you felt at ease. you shifted and turned to your left, facing the bedroom door.

his eyes crinkled as he smiled tenderly at your sleeping figure. he pulled up the blanket to your chest and turned off the lampshade before sliding in next to you. his arm naturally made its way around you as your hands found its way to his chest. you snuggled closer and rested your face at the crook of his neck as your legs tangled with his.

nanami's heart softened at your motion, thinking about how your soul and mind knows him so well for your body to act the way it did even as you were asleep.

The Dowager Queen Nan Niexing (南聂星)

The current Dowager Queen Nan Niexing is the mother of the current King of the Xiatian Kingdom. She used to be the former King's favorite consort, Pure Consort (淑妃, shū fēi) Chi Niexing (赤聂星). She tends to keep to herself, being quieter and more anxious than the other consorts. She is also the youngest of the five wives. She comes from a well-established noble house of the Xiatian Kingdom. She is the mother of only 3 of the 22 royal children of the Nan family. After the birth of the Eighth/Ninth Princess, she contracted a mysterious illness. Ever since recovering, she has been having trouble conceiving and carrying a child, which has resulted in her only having 3 children. This has caused her to retreat further into herself, now rarely seen out unless for public events. She is 42 years old at the start of the story.

Pure Consort (淑妃, shū fēi) Huo Qinwen, also called the Second Consort, is one of the five wives of King Nan Shaimian of the Xiatian Kingdom and is the mother of MC. Unlike the other consorts, she did not come from a noble family and was, instead, an orphan. Her foster mother worked in the palace and, when she was old enough, she worked as a palace maid under the then-Pure Consort Chi Niexing. Chi Niexing took a liking to her and when she was promoted to Dowager Queen upon the crowning of her son as King, bestowed a title onto Huo Qinwen. The King was then able to marry her properly and place her as one of his consorts. True to her name, Qinwen is a kind and gentle woman, easily charming the people around her. She dotes a bit too much on her children and caused a major fuss in the palace when the Second Prince was born, as she refused to hand him to a wet nurse. She is Dowager Queen Nan Niexing's favorite consort and her children are her favorite grandchildren. She is also the close friend of Virtuous Consort Re. She is the mother of 4 of the 22 royal children of the Nan family. She is 44 years old at the start of the story.

She is one of the calmer consorts, with a relaxed and laid back attitude, as well as being the oldest of the five wives. She comes from a well-established noble house of the Xiatian Kingdom. She is the mother of 5 of the 22 royal children of the Nan family. Two of those children are a pair of twins, which secured her position quite well. She is close friends to Pure Consort Huo Qinwen, raising their children together as well as meeting up to gossip and talk over tea. She is 46 years old at the start of the story.

She is from a newer noble family with foreign heritage. Her blonde hair gave her an "exotic" flair during the selection, which let her be chosen as consort. She is the mother of 6 of the 22 royal children of the Nan family as well as the King's self-proclaimed "favorite" wife. She is ambitious and cunning, doing quite a bit to secure her position and gain power and status. She isn't quite liked among the other wives due to her condescending nature and back-stabbing nature. She is 43 years old at the start of the story.

104 AG Day 94: Princess Azula is captured by insurgents, but negotiates a deal with them. She agrees to deliver Crown Princess Izumi to them in exchange for meeting with Kyzel and seeing her brother.

104 AG Day 103: Princess Azula reaches Ba Sing Se and locates her uncle, but the insurgents launch an attack on the city using her name. Despite this, she successfully locates Crown Princess Izumi and escapes the city.

104 AG Day 114: Princess Azula, accompanied by Crown Princess Izumi, arrives in the devastated capital and is later transported to a village located a few hours away from the capital, where she reunites with Adviser Kyzel and is reunited with her brother.

97 AG Day 60: At the banquet, Fire Lord Ozai appoints Adviser Kyzel as Chief Adviser and proclaims his betrothal to Princess Azula. Subsequently, nine esteemed advisers, alongside the Crown Prince, are subjected to poisoning. The event is thereafter infamously known as the Banquet of Lies.

97 AG Day 63: The sweeping purge of all individuals implicated in the Banquet of Lies, encompassing their entire families, commences, sparking unrest and discontent throughout the nation.

97 AG Day 66: Crown Prince Zuko eventually awakens following the poisoning, emerging as the solitary survivor of the fateful incident.

97 AG Day 81: Adviser Kyzel delivers a national address concerning the repercussions stemming from the Banquet of Lies.

98 AG Day 12: Fire Lord Ozai dispatches Crown Prince Zuko and General Iroh, accompanied by a fleet, to the Fire Nation colonies with the objective of quelling the burgeoning rebellion.
