#Loona helluva boss critical

I hate what happened to Loona and Blitzo's relationship because it went from Loona being a cold daughter, easily embarrassed by her father's affection, to her being an abuser who verbally and physically assaults Blitzo if he even breathes around her. It was painfully uncomfortable to watch Loona abuse Blitzo despite him doing nothing to warrant it, considering he's nice to her and showers her in love.  However, since Loona is traumatized, her abusive behavior is excused, and Blitzo is supposed to endure her mistreatment because she's his daughter. We’re supposed to like Loona but hate Stella despite both being awful abusive people. It's okay for Loona to be abusive because she's a "traumatized victim" who "doesn't know how to express her love" for Blitzo without abusing him, while Stella is just a spoiled, cruel bitch, who enjoys tormenting Stolas. It's incredible how abuse is acceptable in one situation yet considered wrong in another when it should be bad in both, regardless of the reason.

I agree, especially on Loona. It makes me gag to say it but, Loona actually had potential at first despite mainly being furry eye candy. According to Viv Hellhounds are under the imps, making them the lowest class, and having Blitz (another low class demon) adopt her and take her in from a horrible place where her kind is treated as nothing but labor could have been an intriguing story. The two could have connected, and Blitz could have earned her trust and have like a “it’s you and me against the world”- dynamic, the only problem is that not only did Loona apparently need to be an unlikable angsty teen trope who was just moody and on her phone 24/7, but she had to hate Blitz and treat him like shit. The thing that pisses me off is that the show never explains why Loona disliked Blitz in the first place. It makes no sense, and despite her perspective of being in a toxic environment for 17 years, Blitz was the one to literally take her OUT of said toxic environment and shower her with love. I’m not saying Loona needs to bow down to Blitz and idolize him for just adopting her, but I AM asking for it to actually make sense on why she treats him the way she does because I legit see no reason why aside from “she’s supposed to be an angsty teen!”- since that’s all Loona is good for according to Viv. The recent episode however just threw her potential out the window cause now she’s physically abusive to him? And it’s not funny, she’s not a teenager, (though I don’t blame people for assuming that since Viv can’t write her as the full grown adult she is) she’s this grown up woman beating up on her adoptive father for no damn reason. And I’m sick of fans saying “B-BUT SHE HAS TRUAMA, SHE GREW UP IN A TOXIC PLACE FOR YEARS!”- because it’s becoming fucking Steven Universe all over again. Just because Lapis went through trauma and was stuck in a mirror for years, doesn’t excuse her to put someone else (Jasper) through the same trauma SHE went through, and treat someone who actually put the effort in to change like utter shit. (Peridot). Just because you decide to share that a character like Loona has trauma at the last minute, doesn’t mean she gets off Scott free for treating the person who’s been nothing but nice to her like crap. Just because you went through trauma and trauma itself CAN turn people sour, doesn’t mean that makes it okay.

Two Scenes That Sums Up What Types Of Fathers Stolas And Blitzo Are

Blitzo turns down helping his sugar daddy be saved to help his daughter get a crucial shot to protect her health.

Meanwhile, Stolas gives his life up for his booty call which broke his family and as a result breaks his promise he would never leave his daughter and run off with Blitzo.

The latest episode of HB has these issues that I find important to talk about:

Millie claiming that she's Blitzø's best friend. We've never even seen how they'd interact before. Like, ever. Also, wasn't Fizz supposed to be Blitzø's bff? They made up, right? Or maybe their relationship is still too strained to call them best pals again, which yeah, I get it. Heck, maybe the bond they once had will never be the same. But either way, Blitzø and Millie were never even friends

The fact Blitzø wanted to fuck both Millie and Moxxie throughout the series was treated like it's no big deal. A boss wanting to have sex with his employees really just grinds my gears. it's disgusting, especially if those employees are married. Blitzø was also an overall stalker who invaded their privacy. This show, along with HH, doesn't know if it wants to treat serious stuff like it's serious or as a joke. It's never consistent

Blitzø's trauma is mentioned for the 1609458th time. Is that really all there is to him at this point? How about you finally give your "main character" some development, Viv? Oh right, it's all about Stolas now, I forgot. Let's demonize and mentally and emotionally torture the victim of Stolas' abuse instead. Also, screw the development of the other characters, who needs 'em anyway

Millie's role in this episode is once again tied to a man in her life. It's always been her husband, and now it's Blitzø. He gave her everything, that was what this episode tried to tell us. Even if an episode is "about Millie" there always has to be a male character involved in some way. Even though I'm a man, I hate how women are portrayed in HH & HB. Y'all deserve better

I didn't enjoy Millie's interaction with Loona. Because Loona is a bitch as usual

A ridiculous number of swears and sex jokes. Nothing new to see here. Constant swearing is just how the characters talk at this point

Blitzø missing Stolas is portrayed as him still having genuine feelings for him and feeling guilty for "hurting his fee fees" and not as an abuse victim being unable to let go of his abuser

Stolas being mentioned/appearing in Blitzø's mind, even if he wasn't physically in the episode

Girl, have you ever heard of a character arc? We are in mf season two for a show that will be 5 seasons. We're not even at the midpoint. Three doritos ago, people were shitting on Blitzø for his emotional unavailability and lack of commitment, and now that his arc has progressed, he's everyone's favorite. How about you wait until the story is done to draw your conclusions? I know. Revolutionary concept.

Alternatively, if it makes you so angry that you want to shit yourself, you could just. Stop watching. And let everyone else enjoy in peace.

So while taking a shower. I just realized Mammon is a pretty stupid antagonist now that I think about it, Not just because he's a poorly thought out interpretation of the Sin of Greed, but because his only antagonistic trait is being a shitty boss.

He physically assaults Fizzarolli, insults Fizzarolli, manipulates him, fatshames him, and gets mad when Fizzarolli messes up.

However, there is another character in Helluva Boss who shares ALL of those traits but is somehow a protagonist of the show. That being Blitzo.

Blitzo physically assaults Moxxie, fatshames him, insults him, gets mad when Moxxie messes up, and even threatened to rape him and his wife all the way back in the first fucking episode.

Helluva Boss has a tendency of "Rule for thee, but not for me" and I'm just tired of it. When the protagonists physically assault and insult each other, it's supposed to be funny, but when the antagonists do the same, we're supposed to hate them.

I'm sorry, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. Make your characters face the consequences of their actions instead of dismissing their abuse because it's funny. Also, one more point Entertaining Antagonist doesn't equal Good Antagonist.

Edit/redesign of Loona’s demon form!

I of course, had inspiration from these iconic doggos;

And mixed in some of my own original hellhound concept from one of my non-Hellverse OCs! So gave her hair that turns into fire at the end, the boney tail and back, and the talon-like paws.

I gave her a broken horn to reference her nicked ear. And gave her blue fire as its a hotter fire and I feel would compliment the ice battle going on. I also just removed her clothes cuz I feel like she would’ve ripped out of them completely to free movement though I wonder if Hellhounds have fireproof clothes?

I was quite disappointed with her demon form not being much “demon”-like in canon? All it was was extra eyes and a feral form and I felt like I really wanted to push the idea she was well, a HELLhound, in this design.

These two minisodes served as a reminder as to why I got into Helluva Boss in the first place since they're hilarious and creative. I wish the show was more of this and less Stolitz melodrama.

Blitzo Has His Priorities As A Father Right Better Than Stolas

Seriously, looking back at these episodes it really hammers how both are as fathers. Even in the face that their wealthy, powerful proprietor is facing assassination, he chooses his daughter's health over being a white knight to this pompous, entitled bird who then is ungrateful that his employees were the ones to save him. On the other hand, when Via needs him the most he will neglect her to focus on his petty squabbles and flirting with his booty call which caused the current strife in the family. She might say he loves her but his actions really contradicts how self-centered he really is towards her regards. He will do the bare minimum after spending the previous time pushing her away. This is in contrast who will put all his focus on Loona when he feels like it is important. What's even more ironic this is from a guy who only had her since she was 17 while Stolas was always with Octavia but as time has gone by he has done less to focus and prioritize her needs over his own. Again why is Stolas called best father when that title should go to Blitzo.

Quick Helluva Boss Rewrite since I don’t like Stolas

Discard the Stolas is good episodes and bring it back to IMP and Blitz

Mlre focus on Millie and Moxxie; Millie is a farm girl who’s considered weak in her family while Sallie Mae is the favorite while Moxxie grew up in the mafia and was forced to kill his mom - they meet each other

Keep Stolas as a villain but have him manipulate he audience that he’s good and it’s his wife that’s the issue and daughter who’s bratty but acts two faced towards

Stella is trying to make the marriage work but is pressured by her incestuous brother to stay in the marriage for the family name; include Stella’s relatives too and have them insist marriage is the only way since women don’t have powers in Ars Goetia

They also consider fire powers unwomnaly so Stella was taught to repress them since “there’s nothing dainty about fire”; she also learned about medicine from a butler

Have Stella hire Striker over and over as he hunts IMP down

While stars are cool as hell, Stolas’ powers represent the coldness and isolation of space and distance from warmth - he represents the almighty powers that tear down life and makes living inhospitable

Big showdown as Blitz calls out Striker for hurting his own kind and Striker has an “oh shit” moment

Blitz makes up with Fizz and they start over

Have IMP not know what Stolas is very much raping Blitz each month to get the Grimoire because he doesn’t want to worry them and he knows he doesn’t have an option

Octavia notices something is up and assumes Blitz is tearing the family apart

Striker tells Stella the kill is off because of what Stolas is doing to Blitz

This angers Stella so much - her whole world comes crashing down as she realizes her husband and daughter’s father is a rapist and what he’s doing to Blitz could easily come to Octavia too. Stella loses it and for the first time, she finally gives in. Her powers represent the warmth in life that dares to exist even in the depths of space.

her fire powers go haywire and she is going to burn the shit out of Stolas

Epic battle between IMP, Striker, Stella, Octavia VS Stolas, Andy, the Sins, and Ars Goetia

Epic showdown, lots of injuries, Striker and Blitz are badly injured, Loona nearly died, Millie is in a coma, and Moxxie is taking care of everyone. Stella decides to use her powers to get Asmodeus stones so everyone can cross over to the living world and do their jobs. She also uses her knowledge she learned over the years in secret to gather medicine so everyone recovers with Moxxie’s help

Stella and Octavia inherit Stolas’ fortune since he’s been disgraced for lending his book (the reason Stella didn’t just report Stolas earlier is that Stolas would’ve blamed Blitz for raping him and stealing the book and blamed her for the plot so she couldn’t report it sooner).

IMP is very successful. We have Millie x Moxxie raising a family (since in this story we have Millie with more character with her own issues rather than just wife), Blitz x Strike, and Stella raising her kid alongside Blitz raising Loona.

Abusive fictional fathers - Robotnik vs. Stolas

I won't be talking about Coconuts here since he's not on screen that much, but know that I feel sorry for the stuff he's been through, poor guy

Robotnik ⮕ Scratch & Grounder

Like... he literally only created these two to use and abuse them and that's crystal clear

When I say Robotnik is an abusive pos, this is what I mean (and this is just some of the physical abuse, don't even get me started on the emotional):

...Okay, that last picture was the last straw. Robotnik's thrist for power has officially outweighted Scratch and Grounder's "value." He felt 0 remorse for throwing them into the lava. Keep in mind, he THOUGHT HE HAD KILLED THEM and DIDN'T CARE AT ALL. Thankfully they were fine. And no the fact that they're robots doesn't make it any less wrong

If you're willing to sacrifice your children for a powerful artefact, then I'm (NOT) sorry to say this, but you're a heartless pos and deserve to be held accountable for your actions. If I were in Scratch and Grounder's shoes, I would have ran the hell away right then and there and found home elsewhere

However, unlike with Stolas and Octavia, at least the narrative doesn't try to convince us that Robotnik loves his sons. Because if he did, he would have tried to change his behavior. Or better, he wouldn't have abused them IN THE FIRST PLACE! AT ALL! No matter what he had gone through! I'm not denying that his mom was a pos to him just like he's a pos to scratch and grounder, but i refuse to see this as an excuse. he should have tried his best to break the cycle of abuse

*sigh* Now I've gotta talk about that stupid bird man... let's just get this over with.

Stolas ⮕ Octavia

Stolas is shown to have been there for Via in her childhood. although we never see them bond over anything, connect emotionally with each other or spend quality time together, we've only got this one nightmare scene. this was the only time stolas was shown to care about octavia

He did his best to calm her down and make her feel safe, then proceeded to break his promise for a booty call. For a childhood "friend" that his father bought for him 25 years ago.

And you're telling me how Stolas didn't realize that bringing Blitzø along in Loo Loo Land is uh... a bad idea that will make his daughter feel even worse?

I HATE the excuse that Stolas was "just clueless." Because anyone with the tiniest bit of common sense would come to the same conclusion: flirting with your booty call in front of your daughter who is a minor and going through emotional hell that happened because you cheated on her mother makes you a horrible and selfish father.

Even worse is that Stolas doesn't learn his lesson and once again neglects Octavia. Stolas is too busy hating his ex wife and gushing over his abuse victim that he can't even be bothered to look for his daughter himself, and instead Loona has to be the one to go find her. And then she literally tells Via how her dad's trying his best and how she should cut him some slack. No. No she shouldn't. Octavia was right to think that Stolas hates Stella more than he loves her because that's what his actions show.

He can hug her all he wants and promise to do better but he has done nothing to even TRY to be better for this poor girl.

Not to mention that Loona is a hypocrite. Blitzø has always been doing his best to be a good dad to her, and she thanks him for saving her life by being a complete bitch. It's been five. Fucking. Years. Of unconditional love and support from Blitzø's side. And what does he get in return? A kick in the balls. Blitzø also got beat up by her and hit with the "if I'm so terrible why don't you replace me" after he rightfully called her out and you're trying to tell me Blitzø was the one in the wrong and how this isn't abusive huh ok then whatever ya say

I won't talk about the upcoming episode much. I honestly just don't have the strength anymore. But to make it as short as possible, Stolas is gonna be treated like an uwu poor sad gay boi and once again choose Blitzø, the guy he r*ped, over his own child.

If you check out the leaked story boards for s2 ep12, you'll see how disgusting it is that Via is spitting nothing but facts and yet she'll be demonized by the writers, Stolas lovers and Stolitz shippers. Just...

Please stop lying, dude. Just stop. You shattered her entire life and neglected her for a guy you abused and never got to know on a level that's deeper than sex. No wonder Via thinks he doesn’t love her anymore. The line above gives me the same vibe as THIS line also they made Stolas not only ACT like a guy who victimizes himself but LOOK that way too

And yeah, I get it: he was put in an arranged marriage (this was clearly a retcon, but whatever floats viv's boat) despite being gay and was sheltered and never had friends, but those are explanations for his behavior, not excuses.

Oh and, to anyone who thinks otherwise: Emotional neglect is a form of abuse.

Closing Thoughts

One important thing that I noticed with both Scratch and Grounder and Octavia, is how none of them feel at home with their fathers. A reliable way to know whether you've failed as a parent or not is to see how your behavior affects your kid(s). How does your behavior make them feel?

Octavia says how Stolas ruined their family, not Stella and in ep12 she's finally gonna call him out on his bullshit thank god. but unfortunately the toxic gay ship will once again be a priority because it's gay

Scratch and Grounder are terrified of Robotnik's wrath, he constantly makes them feel useless and unwanted, but at the same time, they have no problem betraying him both of them always come back to him, just like how Blitzø doesn't leave his abuser because he wants to feel "loved" and "needed" for once even though Stolas treats him like shit

So yeah, if you made your kid(s) feel this way, you've officially failed as a father.

Ok, what with the dehumanization of Loona, first it was putting a cone over her head after getting her hellbies shot, then is left sleep deprived after Blitzo forced her to burn a bunch of taxidermy owls now she gets a muzzle over her mouth like she's a rabid animal. And all from a season she barely takes part in. Seriously I know alot of people don't like her but for real, give the girl a break.
