anyway i was afraid to touch this discourse with a ten foot pole but i had to get some stuff off my chest as a queer man myself looking at all this discourse abt jayvik because it’s hit me more deeply than others for some reason.

i have no problem with people who see them as platonic, i think the relationship is beautiful either way, but personally as a queer man like i said before the thing that hurts me the most abt the discourse is people’s assumption that if it IS romantic that this takes away from the arc. if like people say there’s a lacking male friendship in media where men are tender and loving towards one another, why is it that every time people turn towards a fictional gay couple and point fingers that the gayness itself is devaluing the relationship? why do people see male queerness as devaluing deep male friendship? why are we the enemy of better male friendship representation in media? as if gay men in love can’t be friends. as if they can’t have both at the same time. idk it’s just a show and just fandom discourse but that doesn’t mean it can’t hurt when i see people talking about how it’s better that they’re not gay at all.

what I learned from season 2 of IWTV is that a distressingly large amount of people cannot tell the difference between a consensual BDSM dynamic and assault/abuse, nor do they know anything about how kink actually works

it’s not unhealthy for Armand to be submissive or delve into maître/slave kink dynamics. in fact it’s something people do to explore and get past their traumas all the time irl. additionally, he is like five times older and more powerful than Louis, he wasn’t being forced to do anything, nor could Louis ever actually force him. the kink was probably the healthiest aspect of their relationship, what fucked them over was a jumble of commitment issues, a lack of trust, and eventual murder - which is something that would cause problems in any relationship ever, no matter how vanilla.

the Point of the tragedy is that they were on the precipice of something happy, but Louis hesitated for too long and Armand couldn’t recognize when he was loved, and the kink had nothing to do with it, for fuck’s sake. Louis wasn’t abusive and it’s not bad or wrong for Armand to want to be a sub -

I don’t think, as a fandom, we talk about Bucky and Steve fighting in one of the most gruesome and fucked up wars the modern world has seen enough (ontop of being raised by fathers who fought in the one before it)

While yes, they deserve and should be written as characters with PTSD because of what they do on the avengers/as the winter soldier/being placed in a whole new world without a say

We should also be writing them as characters who have fought in WWII and seen some fucking shit (Omaha beach, the bombs in Japan, people who where imprisoned at the concentration camp, their friends dying right next to them, helping out in the trenches, watching people loose a leg or arm, etc etc)

Ontop of this, bucky (in the comics and I think one of the cartoons) joined the army when he was like 17/18 years old. A fucking kid.

We should write more PTSD scenes of the two having flashbacks relating to WWII and not only the things I mentioned before

Steve is screaming and crying on the floor because Tony grabbed his arm from behind and- Buck is a fucking child and he’s stuck in the building, let go of me Sargent - let me go get my little brother before it blows and Tony is shushing him with “it’s okay hon, it’s just me”

Bucky is holding a gun up to his husband’s face because, just for a second, Sam (with a Halloween mask) looked like a gasser that killed a guy who pushed Bucky out of a window before said gas exploded on that floor and the guy died

personally, i don’t think anyone should ship aro/ace/aroace characters with anyone unless they know how those relationships work (or are on the aro/ace spectrum themselves). sure, some of them can be similar to a relationship where neither person is aro/ace/aroace, but a lot of times they are different in some way. unless you can grasp what that means for the aro/ace/aroace character i feel like it’s going to be straight up mischaracterizing them, and not in a funny way. (this is mostly geared towards if people post a lot about whichever character/relationship or if they make art/fanfics of that type of relationship)

(this is my personal opinion, and i’m not saying you have to agree with me)

i hope people realize i was mostly talking about shipping pre-existing characters specifically. ones that already have established that they’re aro/ace and people either ignoring that, or acting like their relationship wouldn’t differ from most relationships due to them being aro/ace. that’s different from making your own aro/ace character, whether you are or not.

my whole point was just that aroace relationships are different from allo relationships. i apologize if it didn’t come across that way but i did specifically say “ship” so ??? i’m confused if the people reblogging it are addressing that or something else :')

I guess I find the shipping discourse a little funny because fandoms are gonna create ships regardless of the subject matter. I think really heavy, depressing media creates a need for people to see human connection. It’s like a way to cope, you know? More importantly and specific to this game (Mouthwashing), I also find it a little funny just because the devs themselves seem to be leaning towards ~one~ “ship” by retweeting artwork that depicts them as pretty close and protective. They even did an edit of them on that Florence Pugh and that one white guy romance movie with a “what could have been” caption. Sooo tldr the ship drama is kind of dumb. Please block and move on cause the discourse is taking up space on my feed when I’m trying to look for more art of Daisuke lmao
