I grew up in the East Hollywood/Los Feliz Village/Silverlake area, so, I definitely remember this restaurant well, and though I may have forgotten the exact flavors of the food, it was a place I was used to seeing for a great many years of my childhood. If anyone recalls there was a Pioneer off of Sunset Blvd. in between Silverlake and Los Feliz (very close to Virgil & Hillhurst), and its former location now hosts a really lame Del Taco. Dammit, bring back Pioneer!!

Deep fried Oreo or fried ice cream for me, deep fried butter on a stick on behalf of my sister-in-law.

I'm home in Texas for a few days and we made fried chicken for dinner tonight, using a new recipe. I manned the frypan while my folks made salad and a sauce, and it came out pretty great. Sitting around the table after dinner, discussing my prowess at deep frying, Mum asked me what the strangest food I've ever fried was.

I opened my mouth to reply and then blue screened hard, and Mum started to laugh because "you really have to think about that one!" and I had to admit I was trying to decide between options.

I eventually settled on "artichoke" as the strangest thing I'd ever personally fried, and "avocado tempura" as the most unusual I'd eaten. But it's a pretty good question for discussion and frankly I'm going to mine the notes for material for the Shivadh novels so let's have it:
