what if the batkids decided at the same time to bring their partners to the Manor and they argue about it?
[i can't stop writing long scenes]
scenario 1:
Duke has his arm wrapped around Izzy's waist as they make their way to the movie room.
Duke: Have you decided which movie you want to watch tonight?
Izzy, grins: The Notebook?
Duke, opening the door of the room, chuckles: But we've just watched that two weeks ago. Besides, Dick and Jason love that film, I've watched it a lot of times by now.
Izzy, turns the switch on to illuminate the room: What's the harm in rewatching-
they stop in their tracks as Steph and Cass enter the room from the other entrance of the movie room.
Steph giggles and leans towards Cass' face to kiss her. they don't even notice that the room is now bright with the lights on.
Duke, clears his throat loudly: Uh. Just to let you know, there are other people in the room.
Izzy: Sorry! We didn't mean to interrupt.
Steph and Cass, still holding each other, look at Duke and Izzy at the other side of the room.
Cass waves to them.
Steph: What are you two doing in here?
Duke: To watch a movie? Clearly.
Steph: But we started an hour ago.
Duke: I don't see a sign in the door that says it's occupied though.
Duke has really been hanging too, too much with Damian and Jason.
Cass, covers Steph's mouth before she speaks more: Maybe we can watch together.
Izzy, smiles: What were you guys watching earlier?
Steph and Duke, say at the same time: But this was supposed to be a date!
then Steph and Duke glare at each other, suddenly arguing over random things.
Cass shakes her head and leads Izzy outside the room so they can get some food from the kitchen.
---
scenario 2:
Dick continues to lead Wally to the private pool that was just newly built.
they just came home from a mission and some dip in warm water under the bright stars sounds so good right now.
by the time they both strip down to their boxers, Dick is a giggling mess as Wally bridal carries him on the stairs down to the water.
Wally, still carrying Dick on his arms, backing both of them on the pool wall: Have I told you today how beautiful you are?
Dick, blushes, wrapping his arms on Wally's neck: You always remind me. But tell me again-
then out of nowhere, someone shouts, "KABOOOOOM!" and a large splash of water hit both of them.
Dick, rubs the water off his eyes: What the actual fu-
and it's Roy from across the side of the pool, leaning against the wall with a smug grin on his face. on his side is Jason with the same kind of smile.
Roy, brings Jason closer to him: Oh, isn't it my two best friends of all time?
Jason, laughs: Ocupado, Dickface. Sorry.
he wasn't sorry at all.
Dick, groans, coming down from Wally's arms: You lied, Jay! You said you were out of town.
Jason, shrugs: Plans change, Dick.
Wally, rubs Dick's arm soothingly: A little warning next time, guys?
Roy, grins: Not our forte.
Dick, grumbles: You guys are assholes. Go to another area or something, I don't care.
Jason: I'm sorry, what was that, Dick?
Dick: Asshole, I said go to another area. Period.
Jason: Why you-
then the two brothers are moving forward towards each other on the water, aiming for a fight of sorts. one minute, Jason has Dick under the water and the next, it's Dick chasing Jason in the water like ducklings. like birds.
Wally hides Dick's escrima sticks, while Roy hides Jason's guns. just in case the fight escalates.
---
scenario 3:
Roy, whines: Jaaaaaybird, can we sleep now?
Jason: I said give me a minute, Roy. I need to grab a book.
Roy leans his weight on Jason, closing his eyes.
Jason: And I'm not carrying you, idiot.
although, he wraps his arm on Roy's waist, supporting him as they walk to the Manor library.
Jason, opens the door: Give me a few, kay? Then we can- WHAT THE SHIT?
Roy feels more awake than awhile ago as they both stare at Kon, shirtless on the couch and his hair a mess.
Jason: Clone, what are you doing here????
Kon, flushes, embarrassed: I... I... Um.
then Tim appears from behind the couch too, his hair also a mess, but thankfully his clothes still on. or else Jason would have threw up on the floor.
Roy just has a grin on his face the entire time, amused.
Tim, grins: Hey, guys.
Jason, pinches the bridge of his nose: I swear, Timmy, I fucking swear, if you and clone boy don't fucking take your hormones upstairs to your own room, I will-
Tim: You will what, Jay? I mean... You don't own this place. Doesn't mean you spend most of your time here, it's yours.
Jason: I never said I owned this! I just fucking said, don't do funny business on the library couch.
Tim, scoffs: As if you don't do funny business here.
Roy, grins even widely: The boy's got a point, Jaybird.
Jason, now even more upset: Go, go upstairs!
Tim: But-
Jason: Now, Tim!
Tim: You're not my mom!
Jason: And you're not being responsible!
Tim: As if you're any better!
then the two boys continue to argue, leaving Roy and Kon to shrug and make their own conversation by the door.
Roy: Hey, kid. How's the Young Justice?
Kon, smiles: Pretty good. How's the Outlaws?
---
bonus:
Damian and Jon are in the game room, playing some Mario Kart when they hear voices outside the room.
Steph: We were here first!
Dick: I thought I told everyone in the groupchat that me and Wally will be having the Game Room.
Jason: I already called dibs in the room.
Duke: I arrived earlier than any of you, so technically, me and Izzy get to use it first.
Tim: Hey, I never had the Game Room this week!
Cass, suggests: Can we just all share it?
Damian, opens the door, annoyed: Will everyone just keep their mouths closed? I have settled in the room already.
as the batkids continue to make their points, Jon exits the room and flies to the main living room where the rest of the partners are talking.
Jon, settles beside Kon: I guess this is a regular occurance.
Roy, chuckles: You have no idea, kid.
Wally: As long as I can remember, yes.
Kon: You'll get used to it, little brother.
Izzy: With a house so big, they still argue on who gets a room first.
Izzy, sees the Monopoly game under the coffee table, smiling: Anyone up for Monopoly?

Vibrating. I can be bribed yes.
Tumblr media
So thinking about this more, Gotham definitely has some... unique new-ish traditions. Slash things that outsiders are very ??? about. Practically the entire city closes if it's raining, with everyone working from home. Well, most are working from home, or indoors, because if they're out in the rain long enough they lose their legs. And well, people already think Gotham is inhuman enough without it being confirmed as such.
It's also, canonically a superstitious place. What with the Court and the cults and everything else so. They're really playing it up during tourist season (why is there a tourist season, they're serious. Just. Why.)
But their culture definitely has shifted after the whole... fish curse. Already started discussing it before, but a lot of people start keeping their hair longer, or at least bits long enough to put things like pearls or shells in them. It's almost like a flower language, just more sea... and poisonous... focused. Different pearls have different meanings, not just colors but size as well. Same with shells. Which was at first a more upper society thing, but it spread to the rest of Gotham. You can tell if someone is a native depending on the material- they may or may not scam outside people with fake pearls.
Now the merfolk change in general. As said before in previous reblogs, some people do end up having children in mer' form. Which means that hospitals do have specialty areas for people with mer medical issues. Including those that might have birth issues. Hospitals and Dr offices are strange to a lot of outsiders. I mean, no one knows what to make of giant tanks in some rooms.
(Also apologies if I'm jumping around I'm dealing with a fever while writing this lol)
Now something to note, is that unlike several merfolk in mythology, in mer forms Gothamites don't have a scaless upper half. It doesn't suddenly shift to human skin, that would ruin their adaptations to camouflaging through the murky waters. Which also helps with no one recognizing say, a friend or teammate when they see them. Not that Aquaman has seen or knows Batman's face.
Poor Clark though. He was... not expecting this when he rushed to where he heard Bruce's heartbeat pop back up after going all weird and... off. Because the change isn't painful, but it definitely looks and sounds so. Bones shifting alongside organs, skin splitting open into gills, jaws unhinging... I'm sure you can see why it'd be horrifying for an outsider to hear. Or see.
@f4nd0m-fun pspspsps look someone drew art <3<3
Mermay Special Prompt 3
“Are you kidding? No one goes to Gotham, that place is like,” Aquaman made a motion with his hand, a not-quite grimace on his face. “Like things should not be living in the water, like it should be impossible, and things should be dead, but they aren’t and it’s like, like the equivalent of an undead apocalypse over there!”
Bruce rolled his eyes behind his cowl, taking a sip of his coffee as the others continued drinking. Socialize, they said, it’ll be fine they said. Well excuse him, but the waters weren’t that bad. Sure there were always dumped bodies, and chemicals from the rogue attacks, but it was far worse at one point.
One thing he’ll always be relieved for is how the… curse (thank you broken statuette back in the beginning of his vigilante career that fused with the other many curses of Gotham) made the people of Gotham actually care about the waters around them.
Though also, he couldn’t help but thank anything that might be listening for the fact that the curse only interacted with Gotham waters, because losing legs with any risk of a drop of water would be downright annoying.
“No dude, you don’t understand, no one goes there for a reason! That shit is horrific- someone saw a big thing with bits of rebar stabbed straight through it and still chased after a big alligator-thing!” Oh. Oh that had been him. Oops. Hopefully his kids didn’t find out about this, but they were probably already on the cameras. Dammnit.

FRI(END)S -
- 'let's put the end in friends'
pairing (drumroll please) - jason todd x f.reader
includes - mutual pining, best friend dick grayson, batfam being nosy as shit, reader is kind of camera shy/insecure, jealous jason but in a cute way, angry confession (personal fav), mild angst but with a happy ending obvi, swearing, briefly mentioned smut (like one sentence at the end) + anything i might've missed
a/n - hi hello...idk what to say honestly. this was a very random idea i got at like 3am and i can just hope that you guys will like it. also my characteristics of the fam are solely based on the webtoon. yes the title is inspired by taehyung's single what about it
@dreamingaboutsakuratrees this one's for you (and everyone else who voted on that poll) <3
'Yes! Yes, that's perfect! Gosh, the camera absolutely loves you two!'
'Thanks, Delilah ~'
Dick sends the photographer a wink, paired with that signature grin of his, and she nearly falls on her ass. You roll your eyes at the scene affectionately, focused on fixing your hair and checking your makeup for the nth time in the past hour.
'Will you quit it?'
Beside you, your best friend whines and you swat him away with your hand, eyes never leaving the mirror.
'I'm sorry! I just wanna make sure it looks good!'
'You look beautiful. You're doing great, you just need to relax. Focus on me, yeah?'
It's honestly impossible to say no to those eyes, you've learned that a long while ago. The fact that he knows the effect he has doesn't help either.
The photoshoot goes by in a blur. You've changed at least five outfits, done the couple shoots, done the single ones, had a lunch break, etc etc. Throughout the day you learn that the crew that works for Gotham Gazette is actually quite nice, which helped ease your nerves immensely.
Now six hours later, you're sitting in your comfortable clothes, in the passenger seat of Dick's car, on the familiar road towards the Wayne Mansion.
As soon as you step through the door you're greeted with a flash of purple.
'How was it?! Tell me everything! When will the cover be out?! What did you wear?! Who did you see?!'
Stephanie looks as if she's about to burst and simultaneously split her face in half with her grin.
'It went...well, it went.'
Beside you Dick rolls his eyes so hard you could almost hear the gesture.
'Don't listen to her, it was great. She was great.'
'Stoppppp!'
You immediately hide your face in your hands, much to the man's amusement. One of Dick's arms wraps around your shoulders and the three of you head for the library.
'Well, well, well, if it isn't Gotham's power couple ~'
'Gross. Everybody knows they are mere friends.'
'We know. But the rest of Gotham is skeptical.'
'You are hallucinating, Drake. This is why you should stop drinking multitudinous of coffee.'
'Listen here you little shit-'
'O-kay!'
Dick, as always, steps in between the two brothers, effectively averting what could result in another prank war between the two. And it's not even prank season yet.
'Damian, you and I need to discuss that plan for tonight, right?'
'What are you talking ab-'
'The sooner we start the better!'
With that the two dissappear from the room, a very confused Damian letting himself be led by a beaming Dick.
Allowing yourself to feel the tiredness from everything you've done today, you plop on the now empty seat on the couch and sigh deeply.
'Cookie?'
'Thanks, Cass.'
You smile gratefully at the girl, sinking into the cushions more and more while chewing on the chocolate chip cookie.
'Sooo...'
Duke begins, the suspicious tone causing you to raise a brow before he continues.
'...When do we get to see the pictures?'
With this, every pair of eyes in the room turns to you, and you have to avoid the urge to groan.
'The actual magazine comes out in a week. But they'll email us the pictures the day after tomorrow I think.'
'I can't wait to see them! I bet you and Dick had so much chemistry in the photos!'
'Honestly, next to him I don't think anyone will notice me.'
'Of course they will! Especially if you did a couple shoot and got all close and-'
A loud slam interrupts Steph and her rambling and all of you turn to look at a very annoyed Jason. Which, to be fair, is just normal Jason.
He's silent when he stands up and walks across the room, hands stuffed in his pockets. If you had to guess, you'd say he was avoiding eye-contact too.
'Awkward...'
'Not helping Duke.'
- a few days later -
Everyone is sitting in the living room, crowded around Tim's computer, with you and Dick in the middle.
'Jason!'
Dick chirps as soon as he sees his brother enter the room.
'Come look at the photos!'
'No thanks.'
That was the second time that week that Jason refused to look you in the eyes and downright ignored your existence. But you knew better than to press Jason Todd.
Besides, maybe it wasn't even personal.
-
This was definitely personal.
You haven't talked to Jason in days, and it was driving you insane. The worst part is that you have no idea what the fuck you did.
So naturally, as one does, you'll ask him about it. Deciding that it's best to do it after patrol, particularly after the two of you took down some thugs together and were left alone, you refuse to go back home until you two work this out.
'See you tomorrow.'
'Jason.'
Red Hood stops dead in his tracks, and despite his back being turned to you, you can see the tension in his shoulders.
'This needs to stop.'
'I have no idea what-'
'Cut the bullshit, Jay. Why the fuck have you been avoiding me?'
He inhales deeply, mustering up the courage to turn around and face you. Your arms are crossed in front of your chest, accompanied with a very annoyed glare.
'I'm waiting.'
'It's nothing that concerns you.'
His answer makes you at least five times more furious and you scoff.
'Oh yeah? Well I beg to differ. I think I deserve to know why my friend has spent an entire week actively avoiding me.'
Due to his helmet you can't see it, but Jason rolls his eyes in annoyance.
'Why do you care, anyway? I'd say Richard has been keeping you busy.'
This makes you splutter, completely catching you of guard. His words are on repeat in your mind as you try to piece two and two together.
'What the fuck does Dick have to do with any of this?!'
'You tell me!'
Both of your voices echo off the empty walls in the alleyway before a thick silence takes over. Jason takes off his helmet and places it on a nearby fire escape so he can run a hand through his hair.
You watch him, still mildly annoyed, but the sight of his face welcoming nonetheless. And then he looks up and you feel an arrow shoot right through your heart.
His green eyes are soft, dare you say pleading, when they meet your own.
'I-' He takes a deep breath. 'It's the damn photoshoot.'
Before you can ask him to elaborate he's already going off, arms flying every which way with gestures he uses to emphasize his points.
'All I've been hearing for days has been about you and Dick looking all couple-y and what not. I mean you looked gorgeous, honestly why would anyone pay attention to him when you're right there, but god was it getting annoying.'
You have to blink a few times before your brain catches up with his words. Much to his dismay, you don't soften, if anything you look even more pissed now.
'I still don't understand why you've been avoiding me.'
'Because I fucking like you!'
The volume of his words startles you and you swear he was heard a couple blocks away.
'You what now-'
Jason takes a step closer to you.
'I-'
Another step.
'-like-'
Another step.
'-you.'
He's gotten so close to the point of cornering you against a wall, the intensity behind his eyes rendering you unable to look away. You allow yourself a few silent moments to simply appreciate his beauty this close before putting him out of his misery. By your standards at least.
'So this whole time you've just been jealous?'
It takes all of your willpower not to laugh when he deadpans.
'I never took you for a jealous guy to be hones-'
'Shut the fuck up already and kiss me.'
'Yessir ~'
He groans at the term and you make a mental note to use it again later when you're at his apartment.
Who needs to sleep anyway?

I cannot believe I'm saying this but I just argued with someone who was insisting that Dick is abusive and cruel to his family and friends while excusing Jason's actions as "the pit did it". Please give me sweet/cute moments between Dick and his friends/family, whether that's just him listening (like the time he dropped everything so Tim could vent to him) or helping out etc
You ask and I'll deliver!

Like Betta Fish Do- Final Part
WC: 3359, Masterpost
“The response to the article has been great— better even than we had predicted,” Tim informed the various family members as he joined them at the breakfast table, tablet in hand.
Jason glanced up from his porridge to look his little brother over. The eye bags were a little dark, but not to the point of concerning yet, at least not on Tim. Still… “You weren’t up all night running numbers, were you?”
“I slept, I just woke up early.” Tim said defensively. “Besides, it’s best to get data like this when it’s new. It allows me to compare the first reaction to the long term response and see if there are any shifts.”
“Good data gathering is important,” Jazz agreed, “but so is taking care of yourself.”
She set the bowl of porridge that she had just finished adding toppings to in front of Tim and blatantly stuck a spoon in his hand. Tim blinked down at the food for a moment before shrugging and taking a bite. Cass, smiling in amusement, handed Jazz a fresh bowl.
“Best news is,” Tim continued after he had swallowed, “that everyone thinks Danny is, and I quote, a ‘Beautiful Cinnamon Roll Too Good For This World, Too Pure’. I mean, that’s not really a new opinion, but the new article really cemented it.”
“I don’t know how to take that,” Danny said after a pause.
“I mean, I’d just be glad to not be a poor little meow meow,” Duke said as he leaned over to look at Tim’s screen.
“The big change,” Tim continued and tilted his screen for Duke to see better, “is that public opinion of Jason has recovered. It was always solid in Gotham, we get it here, but outside of Gotham people were really having some issues with how quickly Jason pressed the button. Danny going on record to say that he asked Jason to press it— that he knew that’s what he was saying— has made a real difference.”
That was good news, but something about the way that Tim was presenting it made Jason tense and he had to purposefully relax his grip around his spoon. “What’s the bad news?”
Tim glanced over at Jason for a moment before looking back down at his tablet. The way he chewed on his lip pretty much assured there was bad news.
“Tim,” Jason pleaded. He got they were all trying to protect them while Danny was still recovering, but he needed to know, “just tell me. I’d rather hear it here from you than out there on the street.”
“There’s a small, and I mean really small, group that claims we made Danny say those things,” Tim explained with a grimace. “It got dug up that Danny’s on a Wayne Inventors’ Scholarship. They’re saying that we threatened to pull the scholarship if he didn’t clear Jason.”
Maybe it was best just to set the spoon down before he bent it in half.
“We don’t publish those names,” Bruce commented, a heavy frown in place as he joined the breakfast table, own tablet in hand.
Tim nodded. “I know.”
“I’ll look into who at the school may have leaked that information.”
“I mean, it could have just been a classmate?” Danny pointed out. “It’s not like I’ve gone around shouting it to the heavens or anything, but, like, I haven’t kept it a secret how I ended up suddenly mid degree in the program.”
“It could have been,” Bruce acquiesced, “but it still bears looking into. Even if nothing comes of it, reminding the school of how they’re bound by FERPA hardly hurts, not with you returning to classes in a week.”
“Yeah that’s going to be… yeah,” Danny said with a sigh.
Jason leaned over to wrap his arm around Danny’s shoulder and brush a kiss against his temple.
“I’ve got to leave in a few days too,” Jazz said apologetically.
Danny nodded and leaned further into Jason. “You’ll be careful?”
“I will.”
“She will also have assistance in that matter,” Alfred said. The clink of the fresh plate of hot cross buns was a firm period on his declaration.
“That’s a sweet thought,” Jazz managed after a moment, “but I do live in a different state.”
“That is hardly an issue, Miss Jasmine. Master Richard will accompany you for the first week to simply make sure that everything is both secure and calm. When he is certain you will be well, he can make his way back easily enough,” Alfred explained. When Jazz opened her mouth to protest, Alfred held up a staying hand. “Miss Jasmine, I assure you it is not a hardship. You are family now and we very much look after our family. It would do all of us well to know that you are safe and sound.”
“Yes, family now,” Cass agreed as she made a grabbing motion at the plate until Tim passed her one of the buns.
“I, well…” A faint blush spread across Jazz’s cheeks. “I guess if it wouldn’t be a problem? And if you’re okay sleeping on the couch, Dick? We’ve only got one actual bedroom in the place, we use the other as an office for us both.”
“Hey, a couch isn’t the worst place I’ve slept by a long run,” Dick chirped. “But if you’re feeling guilty, I’ll taking getting to pick the tunes on the drive.”
“Don’t do it,” Jason said, an attempt to save Jazz that hell. “Seriously, not worth giving him that power. His music tastes are atrocious.”
Dick pouted. “They’re fabulous.”
“No, Jason’s right on this one,” Tim said.
“If Drake is agreeing with Todd, I am afraid that one has to accept there is some truth in the statement,” Damian interjected.
“Baby bat, no,” Dick whined.
From the look he aimed Dick, Damian was unmoved by the plea. “While you have a great many skills, Grayson—”
“Thank you.”
“—your taste in music, fashion, and other matters of culture is not one of those skills.”
“I’m wounded. You wounded me Damian, my baby bat, so cruel… so callous,” Dick said as he basically melted down into his chair.
“Keep up such antics and you will have a true wound to worry about, Grayson,” Damian said with a sniff.
Jason chuckled. “Ah, it’s not breakfast at the Manor without a threat of violence.”
Duke leaned around Tim to look at Jazz. “You still have time to run, Jazz, you don’t have to be part of this family. You can still get out.”
“Hum, I don’t know. Give me a Creep Stick—”
Multiple people looked at Danny and mouthed ‘creep stick?’.
“—and I think I can manage. Besides, none of the food has come back to life yet so it’s a better breakfast than I had most of my childhood.”
In the following silence, Bruce very carefully set his tablet down and folded his hands on top of it. “Food that came back to life?”
“Lab safety was just sort of an ignored suggestion in our childhood home,” Danny said.
“They kept samples in the fridge,” Jazz continued. “It sometimes had… unexpected results.”
“I don’t know, I think after the tenth time the hotdogs come ‘alive’ it’s an expected result,” Danny argued dryly.
“Good heavens,” Alfred declared softly. “And… the Dr. Fentons did nothing?”
Danny just shrugged. “I ate at school or out with my friends a lot.”
“No wonder you’re so pint sized,” Dick cooed.
“Hey!”
“You are, fish. Just a little guppy,” Jason teased. When Danny grumbled, Jason only pulled him closer.
“It really was just the way things were,” Jazz said, apparently still trying to soothe the table. “We know it’s not normal now, but that was just life at the time. It almost made more sense when there were actual ghosts around haunting Amity Park— and I don’t just mean Danny.”
“Boo.”
“Oh, yeah! You still haven’t shown us your ghost form,” Steph pointed out.
“But only if you’re up for it, dude, like… physically and emotionally,” Duke cut in quickly. “You don’t have to show us if you don’t want to.”
“Oh, I don’t mind. I mean, it was strange showing Jason the first time— showing someone who knew me as Danny first,” Danny said, “but, like, there are times when I want to be in that form. I even get restless if I go too long without changing over.”
“Or sometimes he just needs something off the top shel-oof,” Jason winced as Danny elbowed him hard. “Hey, I’m just speaking the truth here.”
“You’re the one who used me instead of a step stool to hang cameras,” Danny said with a perfectly sweet smile. “But anyways, yeah, it’s no issue to show you all! You might want to cover your eyes though, it’s a bit bright.”
“Bright?” Dick asked, right as Danny transformed.
It served him right if he was left blinking away spots.
“Oh wow, your lights are totally different like this,” Duke said, leaning forward to peer at Danny.
Danny peered back. “Lights?”
“Oh, sorry, I’m a meta, I see… like, after images of stuff, kinda You’re all sorts of wild like this,” Duke said, waving a hand at Danny.
“And inverted,” Tim pointed out.
“Oh, yeah, it seems to be a thing with halfas? Like, I was wearing a white with black hazmat suit when I died and the inverted version was what my ghost form was in for ages. I’ve learned to make changes to it since, but it’s easier to stay close to that original form.”
“Easier, how?” Bruce asked. He was clearly brimming with questions now that Danny was talking about ghostly matters, but he was obviously trying not to ask everything at once.
Tim didn’t seem much better in his eagerness.
“Oh, hum, there’s this resistance? Think of it like trying to pull apart two things that have been glued together. If you have the right solvent or heat or tools you can do it, but you have to have that and you still risk damage if you don’t go carefully. So small changes are easier. Also what um, role I’m in changes things.”
“Fascinating,” Bruce murmured.
“Wait, hold up,” Dick interrupted before Bruce could ask a follow up. “If you’re a halfa and Jason is a halfa, does this mean that Jason has a ghost form too?”
Jason had to resist pushing his chair back as all eyes spun to him. Sure this was his family, but that single minded Bat focus was still intimidating.
Cass tilted her head. “Like Duke said, only if up for it.”
“It’s just, I haven’t… transformed yet,” Jason said. He tried for a casual shrug and felt like he had missed by a mile. “We had to wait for my core and everything to form first.”
“But you could transform now?” Tim asked curiously.
Jason glanced at Danny.
“I think you could,” Danny said. He was floating a little above his chair now. Casually, as if it was odd, he crossed his legs and leaned forward onto them. “Your core is strong. You aren’t having the power issues I did, but you aren’t trying to go through this when a teen either. Question mostly is if you’re ready to try.”
Did he want to try?
Jason didn’t know. Part of him wanted to. Part of him wanted to be able to experience this aspect of being that Danny experienced— to experience it with Danny. Another part of Jason was still afraid. It still felt like the final period on everything that had happened with the Joker all of those years ago.
But maybe it was time to put that period on it.
Maybe it was time to let go.
Maybe it was time to live.
“I’d… I’d like to try.” At least if the worst happened he’d have his family here with him. One of them would be able to talk him down from a panic if he came back as Robin.
“After breakfast, Master Jason,” Alfred said firmly.
“Yes Alfie.”
-
“So… how does this work?” Dick asked.
They were gathered in the gym— originally a room converted for Dick’s gymnastics and since expanded to have various workout gear— on the bright blue mats. Danny was still in his ghost form and drifted in a lazy circle around the group. Jason and Jazz paid him no mind, but Duke and Steph kept glancing at the ghost.
“Well, I mean, when I was a teen I had to say a catchphrase and everything, but I was a lot more in flux at that age so it was all harder. Now it’s much more like just… taking a breath and jumping.”
“Yeah, fish, I’m going to need you to be a little more specific than that,” Jason drawled, his attitude a thin veil over his nerves.
Danny stopped, hovered in front of Jason, and gave him a chaste kiss. “You’ll be okay,” he whispered.
Jason gave a terse little nod.
“Really,” Danny continued, “you’ll be okay. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.”
Breathing slowly through his nose, Jason focused on the feeling of Danny’s cold fingers against his cheeks.
“Now feel for your core. Think of what we saw with Frostbite— the fire, the ash, the movement of it. The light of it. Think about how warm it is there under your sternum. Even in this form, it’s part of you.”
Jason let out a breath slowly, feeling his chest fall with it. He focused on that warmth that nestled itself just under skin and bone. He thought about how it had looked in his hands, destructive but full of the promise of life.
“Keep a focus on your core, but think about how it feels to fly through the air as Red Hood. Think about that moment when you’re at the height of a swing and gravity doesn’t seem to matter. Now let go of all of that and fall. Your core will catch you. I’ll catch you.”
Jason gasped. His knees went out under him. He couldn’t breathe.
No…
He didn’t need to breathe. There simply wasn’t that demand on his body. Everything was just… calm. Static. Still. And he felt so warm. He hadn’t been this warm since before he had died only to wake up cold and alone in his own grave.
Jason looked down at his own hands. They were a dark ashen grey and when he flexed them, soot flaked off and scattered. The bat symbol— his bat symbol— glowed molten orange on his chest. He wasn’t in his Robin costume.
His knees felt weak for a second time, but he still didn’t fall. He looked up into Danny’s fanged grin. The other was holding him up by the elbows. Danny had caught him, just like he promised.
Danny's slow grin only uncurled further. “Hey there, hot stuff.”
Jason let his head fall back as he groaned at the joke.
“Nope, you’ve gotta deal with my puns because wow you really took the whole lava core thing to heart, didn’t you?” Danny said, looking Jason over. “Not that you aren’t totally rocking the look.”
“Really?” Jason asked. It was odd to hear his own voice come out modified from the black mask, deep but without the mechanical edge his Red Hood mask did. Steam escaped from the mask at the filters, swirling up into the still air.
“Payback for months of fish jokes,” Danny said and met the glowing red eyes without an ounce of shame. He drew his hands back along Jason’s arms from where he was holding onto his elbows. Jason could feel cold run along his arms and he held back a shiver. “You good to stand?”
Jason nodded. He felt fine now, weird, but fine. “Yeah, I am. Just… this is a lot different.”
“I know,” Danny said easily and a little sadly. He squeezed Jason’s wrists before letting go and drifting back. Without warning, he plunged his hand into his chest to find his Tucker™ phone.
“What the fuck,” Steph whispered from the sidelines.
“Hey, it’s an easy way not to lose things,” Danny said, “and you need a special phone to be able to handle stuff in the ghost zone so I just keep it on me.”
“In you.”
“Same diff,” Danny said with a shrug. He floated back enough to get all of Jason in the frame and snap a photo.
Jason took the phone carefully as it was passed over to him. That was him. He didn’t know what to think of it all yet, but that was him— as much him as Jason or Red Hood were him. This form certainly drew from his current Red Hood uniform, there was no question of that, not with the face mask and hood, but the coat was longer. The end of the coat ended mid thigh in drips and drops of bright red lava that turned to rick black ash and drifted away. The drips gave a clue to the make up of the rest of the coat, an oddly, roughly iridescent black that glowed bright on edges and seems. Inside the hood was almost blindingly bright.
“It’s definitely a look,” Tim said.
“I like it,” Steph interrupted. “You’re going to make the bad guys shit themselves.”
“Miss Stephenie,” Alfred sighed.
“I didn’t say I didn’t like it!” Tim grumbled. “I guess I just didn’t expect it to be so… otherworldly after Danny’s form.”
Danny shrugged and tucked himself into Jason’s side. The coat sizzled where Danny touched it. “I’m really the odd ghost out. Most of them are much more dramatic and themed to their obsession or core.”
“I think it is impractical. There will be no ambushing anyone when you glow in such a manner,” Damian sniffed.
“Jason’s ghost form isn’t for taking on criminals, Damian,” Bruce said. Jason knew B was thinking it through though from the slightly constipated look on his face.
“I guess with that coat you could totally say that look is dripping,” Duke said and then reached over to high five Dick as Cass signed ‘fire’ dramatically.
“This is your fault,” Jason let Danny know, “the puns.”
“They were like this when I got here,” Danny said, repentantly. “Come on though, open up.”
“Open up?”
“Your mask,” Danny said, tapping on the hard black surface. “I bet you can retract it. Just think about it pulling back and tucking away.”
Jason frowned under the mask but Danny was right before, so he took a breath and tried to picture the mask collapsing on itself and pulling back behind his neck.
The air of the room felt cold on his face.
“Oh, wow, your hair’s inverted,” Dick said, “just like Danny thought it would be. That’s almost more wild than the outfit.”
Jason reached up self consciously to tug at what must now be a black lock only for Danny to catch his hand and kiss it lightly.
“There you are. It took me a long time, but I finally found you,” Danny said.
“Found me?”
Danny gave a little hum. “Yep. Found that ghost whose haunt I crashed into all that time ago. Who would have thought I’d go from being worried about how angry your haunt felt to actually getting to know you like this— getting to know all of you. Getting to see you.”
Danny drifted up just a little more, just enough to press their lips together into a kiss. Icy cold met magma hot and Jason closed his eyes to sounds of cat calls and ‘steamy’. His siblings might be damn annoying, but they weren’t wrong, the kiss was literally steaming.
“Careful or you’ll be smoked salmon before you know it, fish.”
“I don’t know, I think I’d put up with it for you. You know why? Because I lava you,” Danny said with a cackle of laughter.
Jason rolled his eyes, but pulled Danny into another kiss. He had better get used to the puns, he supposed, but somehow he thought he would manage. He thought he would manage because he was no longer just a dead boy, because he had his family around him supporting him, because he also loved Danny. They had not only their afterlives, but their whole lives ahead of them.
And Jason… Jason was determined to live.

Hi. I'm having a bad day and I'm real sad, so do you have a top 10 times Damian was too teeny tiny list or smth? No worries if not.
10) Cass can squish both his cheeks in one hand, and she does so while calling him a baby.
9) Dick once mistook Damian for a couch cushion.
8) When he and Duke play video games, his hands can never wrap completely around the controller.
7) Once it was raining on a stakeout so Kate sheltered him under her cape.
6) When Steph takes him out to eat he always insists on getting an adult menu, but then complains about the lack of mazes and word searches.
5) Barbara always has to check around her wheelchair after she didn't see Damian one time.
4) When he curls up, he can use Jason's jacket as a blanket. They discovered that when he fell asleep in the Batmobile and Jason decided to do his job as an older brother for once.
3) One time Damian was injured and not thinking straight, and in the smallest voice he called Alfred "grandfather."
2) Every now and then, Damian goes to Tim when he has a nightmare. Tim doesn't know why and is hesitant to ask. Later on, he hears through the grapevine that Damian does it so Tim can feel like he actually has the little brother he always wanted.
1) Bruce, in his tired state, said he hoped Damian never grows up. That night, Damian paid Constantine a visit.
Honorable mention) As a baby, Talia would hide him entirely with one arm when Ra's was angry.

Note
Ive gotten completely enamored with them after your post, so how some spoiler warning ship in the Dragon au.
They meet cause Steph grew curious about where Damian was disappearing too for the past couple of days.
Danny was flying to Jason's for a trade after Cass mentioned that her brother might have some astronomy books. Wes spotted him flying and decided to follow and bother him the entire way there.
(Yayyy I'm glad people like the spoiler warning ship :D)
Part 3....?
Stephanie stared at the tall, lean looking dragon with dark red scales and a strange similarity to the other white dragon. Her tail wagged in interest, but the arguing was awkward enough to make her want to leave.
She looked at Jason, who looked exasperated as he wrapped his mate and their little brother underneath his wings. She had never met her before, but she looked beautiful and big, and if picky Jason with his weird hoard had been able to court her, then she was probably alright.
Damian was scrabbling for purchase underneath her from where Jason's mate was squishing him protectively underneath her arms, but he was unable to pull himself out. Reassured by his presence, Stephanie turned back to the fight.
Meanwhile, the white dragon and the red dragon were still arguing. About what? She had no idea, she had gotten distracted by the red dragon's swishing tail again.
Stephanie stared at it, entirely focused on the swishing tail. There was a tuft of hair at the end, waggling in her face.
She had always wanted a mate with a tufted tail. It was an odd thing, but she always thought it would be cute. If this dragon had a good hoard, then maybe...
She got distracted again, her head moving from side to side as she tracked the tail with her eyes.
It was just so cute! She wanted to put her teeth on it...
Without even thinking about it, Stephanie pounced and bit down the swishing tail.
The red dragon gave a high pitched yelp. Then he whirled around to glare at her.
Oops.
At least he was also cute up close?

DC x DP Prompt *34*
Last night's patrol had been rough. Killer Croc got the jump on Tim, who won, but not without injuries. His son had a twisted ankle, bruised ribs and a wound on his back that needed stitches.
All of this meant that Bruce needed to find an excuse for Danny, who would be very confused why his brother was so hurt, when he was supposed to be sleeping at night.
Bruce stood up and made his way to Tim's room to make sure that the boy was still sleeping. To Bruce's surprise he not only found Tim, but also Danny in the bed. Both boys were deeply asleep. Danny's hand clasped Tim's wrist, his fingertips rested on the pulse point of his brother.
Unsure what that exactly meant, Bruce left. He would need to watch the development of this closely, to find out what was going on. If something was going on.
.
.
.
Dick got doused in fear gas. Danny sneaked into his room at night. His fingers are against the pulse of his oldest brother. Bruce closed the door, a light smile on his lips.
.
Stephanie got hurt in a fight against Freeze and stayed at the manor. Danny sat slumped on the floor of her room. His fingers securely against her wrist.
.
Damian got into a fight with Ivy and was still recovering from her pollen. Dick was sleeping and cuddling with his youngest brother. But someone else had cuddled close to the youngest bird. Danny was holding Damian's wrist close to his own chest.
.
Bruce was laying in bed with a broken arm after a run in with Bane. He wasn't surprised to hear his door open, or the smaller body that was crawling under his blanket. Danny's cold finger pressed against his wrist, until they found his pulse. The boy relaxed with a shuddering exhale. He pretended a little longer to be asleep, but before he could do anything else sleep pulled him under.
.
Duke ran into the Riddler. While he did solve the puzzle, he couldn't escape uninjured. He cracked a few ribs and wasn't able to hide his limp. When Duke was going to bed, Danny followed him to his room and slept beside the daytime vigilante.
.
Cass had a tough fight tonight. The court of owls was active again and while she was a skilled fighter, even she wasn't able to stay uninjured with too many enemies at once. She had a black eye and her wrist had a sprain. When Danny tried to sneak into her room, she looked at him and held her uninjured wrist in his direction. They both snuggled into her bed.
.
Alfred had an accident, while doing housework. He fell a few steps down the stairs with a laundry basket in hand. Luckily he only twisted his ankle. But when the old man woke up in the early hours of the morning, he found a black haired boy sleeping in a sitting position beside his bed. His fingers tightly around his wrist.
.
Jason had been shot. And while he tries to argue about being able to drive himself to his safe house, Alfred's disapproving gaze was enough to let him falter. But he stayed in the med Bay. When Bruce came to check on his second eldest, he found a smaller blackhead wrapped around him, his fingers pressed to the pulse point on his neck.

AU OF THE CITY MARKS AU
AKA THE GOTHAM'S CRYPTID CHILDREN AU
Ok so basically an extension of the City Marked AU.
In this, Marked aren't common and once they are Claimed, they are feral. Cryptids.
They shift as they're Changed and the Mark appears on their wrist.
Their nails become clawlike and ears more expressive and pointed, and their teeth sharper, senses heightened, that sort of stuff. Basically feral humans. They can 'shift' these features when they want to though. So pretty much cryptids.
So, when Thomas and Martha are murdered and Bruce is Claimed, he's scared and confused, even as Gotham comforts Her child.
But as Bruce hears sirens, probably police alerted by the gunshots, he realizes what is in front of him- Maybe he'll get his inheritance and hopefully stay with Alfred, but CPS and foster care and everything is still a large threat and that paired with..... whatever just happened to him, he can't stay.
So he runs. He disappears, instinctively stepping into the shadows and letting them wrap around him, embrace him, and he lets Gotham's Wind lead him through the city.
After this, I haven't fully decided what happens to Alfred, but Alfred has to leave but knows Bruce is alive and Bruce takes over the abandoned mansion.
All the public knows is that the Waynes were found murdered in Crime Alley and their little seven-year-old was nowhere to be found. After three years of fruitless search, they give up and decide he's dead as his parents are.
Bruce grows up running around as a feral little cryptid (with Alfred sneaking in and out to take care of him and all).
Once Bruce is 16, he becomes Batman.
Years later, Gotham randomly urges Bruce to sneak into the circus to watch. He doesn't know why. Yet.
The Graysons fall.
Bruce knows what that nine-year-old is feeling because he feels it himself. And he senses it then. The boy has Gotham's Claim on him, not fully Marked yet, still a faintling, but still.
Bruce watches from the shadows as CPS does its shit.
Dick runs away the first chance he gets. Bruce finds him curled up in an abandoned building and coaxes the cub out of hiding. Bruce takes him back to the broken-down abandoned Manor.
Not a month later, Dick is Changed as well.
About three months after that Robin joins Batman.
Barbara is also a faintling and soon after joining the Bats she is Changed. Once her injury happens, she becomes Oracle, and she is better at controlling her instincts than the others so she doesn't have to go into hiding.
Jim Gordon is half-Claimed, so he can understand and speak Marked-Tongue.
Years later, Bruce finds another faintling child, a little street boy trying to steal tires of the car he made. Bruce catches the cub and soothes him.
Bruce takes him back to the broken-down abandoned Manor.
Just like Dick, Jason decides to let Gotham Take him as She Took his dad and brother.
It goes on, Every time they meet another Bat, Bruce and the others feel Her Claim on them.
Cass meets them on a rooftop and Bruce feels Gotham's Winds swirl around the cub. he brings her to the Manor. Gotham Marks her soon after.
Bruce Dick, Jason, and Cass are on patrol when Gotham whispers for Her children to follow. Her Winds lead them to a small back alley where they find two little kids, a boy and girl, the same age, scrawny and malnourished, two runaways from neglectful and abusive homes, trying to find food in a dumpster.
The scent of Gotham's coming Claim all over both.
The two faintlings freeze up and bolt when they see the shadow of the Bats from above. The Bats chase them to another abandoned building, where they half-coax-half-force the little ones out of hiding and bring them to the broken-down Manor.
It takes a few hours to calm the little kids down enough to learn their names- Steph and Tim.
Steph's father was bad enough for her to run.
Tim doesn't speak. Soon Bruce manages to see why.
There's a still-healing scar on the boy's throat. Red and angry.
The cub's parents were neglectful and once when the autistic little boy (Similar to Bruce and Cass) refused to speak because he did not want to, his father cut deep enough to damage his vocal cords.
Once Changed, Tim can speak in feral-speak without trouble but any human language is harder and sometimes it hurts him.
Years later, Damian comes to them. Talia didn't know about Bruce's being a cryptid, or his being a missing person, though she did see how strange he was.
Damian had slightly pointed ears and sharper teeth from birth, though Talia and Ra's never saw this much because he shifted out of it.
When Talia leaves Damian with Bruce at the meeting spot she and Bruce used to meet and meet then, she doesn't note how Damian starts acting differently, how Gotham starts to Claim him the moment he steps on her soil.
After a series of hijinks, of craziness, Damian chooses and lets Gotham Take him as She Claimed his father, sisters, brothers.
Duke is a faintling for a long time. After Joker takes his parents, Duke escape from foster care and is found by the Bats.
Duke becomes both Meta and cryptid. He is Changed yet also a meta.
in all their legal files, all of the Bats are either 'missing' or 'missing presumed dead'.
Bruce is 'Missing presumed dead' and the file says that 'No body was found with his parents, but his whereabouts were never heard of again ever since this event when he was 7'
Dick is just 'missing' because cases of orphans running from CPS are common and he's probably a street kid somewhere.
Jason is 'missing' because cases of orphans running from CPS are common and he's probably a street kid somewhere.
Cass is just 'missing' because.... well, her father is a criminal so they assume she ran away.
Tim is 'Missing presumed dead' because what else are you gonna think when a rich couple's weirdo 7-year-old just vanishes into thin air?
Steph is 'missing' because they didn't find anything to indicate 'dead' but found everything to indicate 'runaway'.
Duke is 'missing' because cases of orphans running from CPS are common and he's probably a street kid somewhere.
Damian is 'missing' because Talia told CPS that he's with his father but refused to say who or where said father is.
Yeah that's..... what I have in mind for this AU. So far.

hugs
It’s not that nobody else’s hugs are good.  Dick is the master of cuddling, Cass always knows when to go for a hug and when to back off, and Damian’s hugs are the most adorable thing in the world.  Tim does hugs like he thinks they’ll disappear if he doesn’t grip tight enough, Steph hugs like she’s trying to break ribs, and Bruce, as always, is warmth and love and home.
But.  But a Jason Todd Hug is special.
Jason is still prickly, still determinedly straddling the line between outsider and family no matter how many people want to pull him back, and he rarely ever attends the family dinners or parties or any get-together when he’s not in the mask.
But sometimes he forgets, forgets that he’s pretending not to be their brother, forgets that he’s keeping them at arm’s length.  Sometimes he wraps his arms around them – easily, because he grew up to be the tallest, grew up the most like Bruce – and envelops them in warmth and leather and gun oil and protection.
A Jason Todd Hug is special because it means he cares.  Because it feels like a victory.  Because it feels like family, like returning home after a long vacation, like sleeping in their own bed and knowing that nothing will ever get them.
Nobody makes the colossal mistake of daring to say this out loud, lest they get cut off forever.
Until Damian squirms out of Dick’s grasp and snaps, “You’re not Todd, you can’t hug me.”
Dick’s mind goes blank.  Tim, on the Batcomputer, stops typing.  Steph pokes her head out of the medbay, eyes wide.
Dick recovers and then immediately scans the Cave.  No Jason in sight, thank god.
“You can’t just say things like that, Dami,” Dick hisses, “Do you want him to sulk and never come back here again?”
“You’ve gotten a Jason Todd Hug?” Steph asks, eyes wide and betrayed, “How?  How did the baby assassin get a hug?  I’ve been trying for months!”
“You’ve been trying to get a hug from Jason?” Tim blinks at her, while Dick mouths ‘months?’.
“Sure, after I saw you practically melt into it,” Steph says, pouting, “You never do that with Dick’s hugs.  I thought it must be something special.”
“That’s because you never encourage Dick, he will hold on and never let go,” Tim says, eyes dark as he grumbles over his coffee.  Dick magnanimously chooses to ignore that statement.
“It isn’t that difficult,” Dick smiles at her, “Either you go for the ‘looking pathetic’ route, or you ambush him.”
Steph looks like she wants to take notes.  Damian huffs, “Who made you the expert on Todd’s hugs?”
“Well, I get the most hugs, so I should be the expert,” Dick explains reasonably.
Damian and Tim eye him speculatively.  Oops.
“Care for a friendly wager?” Tim asks with a shark smile.
That’s when the whiteboard goes up.
Steph’s in favor of writing ‘Jason Todd Hugs’ on it, but Dick convinces her to keep it to initials because if Jason ever finds out, the competition will be over permanently.  They all add their names to the list.
“Alright, any time anyone gets a hug, we add a tally mark,” Dick says, “No maiming, bribery, or blackmail allowed.”  Standard rules.
“When do we end the competition?” Tim asks.
Dick frowns.  If Jason’s in a Mood then it might be weeks before anyone gets a hug from him, and he wants this to be fair.  To give the munchkins a chance.
“First to ten?” Steph suggests.
“Sounds good,” Dick agrees, “Though if we’re getting Jason’s hugs, we’re already winners.”
They all shake on it, and the whiteboard goes up near a board of other miscellaneous stuff, not hidden but definitely out of visible line of sight for anyone who enters the Cave through the garage entrance and spends only five minutes before leaving again.
~#~
C is added to the list of participants the next day, without any notice or explanation.
~#~
There is a little scribble of a bat on the whiteboard by the end of the week.  There is also a W squeezed in between the T and H in the title.
The competitors look at each other across the Cave and nod.  The battle is on.
~#~
Cass is the first one who gets on the scoreboard, mainly because she drops in on top of Jason on one of his rare visits to the Cave.
Jason was arguing with Bruce, his jaw tightening, his expression shifting from irritation to frustration when the Black Bat drops from the rigging and knocks him flat against the mats.
Jason stares up at her, bewildered.  “Did you fall?” he asks.  Cass widens her eyes in lieu of outright lying, and flops on top of him.  Jason automatically wraps his arms around her and she relaxes into the hug.
“You should be more careful,” he says quietly.
Cass hums, and lets her head rest against the thump-thump of his heartbeat.
When Jason has left, motorcycle roaring away, she takes the marker and draws a single line below the C.
Tim shoots her a dirty look.
~#~
“It’s not fair,” Tim glowers at Dick, hair half-sticking up on one side, as Dick dramatically and pointedly adds another tally to his score, bringing it up to four.
Jason nearly stabbed him, but it’s worth it.
“I gave you my secrets, baby bird,” Dick laughs, “What more do you want?”
“You and Cass just.  Attack him with hugs,” Tim waves his hands to make his point, “That’s not fair!”
“You could attack him with hugs too,” Dick points out.
Tim gives him a flat look.  “Somehow I have a feeling that won’t go over well.”
Dick shrugs, hiding his smirk.  “That sounds like a you problem.”
~#~
He notices it on a visit to the Cave, a whiteboard that’s clearly a new addition, emblazoned with JTWH in Dick’s handwriting.  The W is smaller than the rest, like it was squeezed in after.
Underneath it is a long line of initials with tally marks underneath.  D, T, DW, S, C, and a little stylized bat.  The whole gang.  (Except him.)
Dick is clearly winning, with five tallies under his name, though someone seems to have scrawled in ‘cheater’ underneath those.  Cass is in second place with three, Replacement and Batgirl have tied for third with two, Babs has one, and Damian has a half for some reason.  Bruce, he’s happy to see, is losing.
He doesn’t mention it.  He’s distracted by the case they’re working on, and then by patrol, and by the time he remembers it, he’s irritable and sleep-deprived and bitter enough that the idea that they left him out of their competition fits right at home with his aching heart.
~#~
“What’s JTWH?” he asks, because the whiteboard is in his line of sight and it never stopped bothering him.  Jason tries to keep his voice casual, tries to not ruin the pleasant mood in the Cave, but his next words are a little too sharp.  “And why am I not on the scoreboard?”
Everyone goes silent in a way that’d be freaky if they weren’t all piled on top of him.  He can practically hear the looks being exchanged around him.
“What, afraid I was going to smoke all of you at your competition?” Jason asks.  More looks.  Jason tenses, waiting for it – the ‘you said you’re not part of this family’ and ‘you never asked’ and ‘we forgot’.
“You are,” Cass says simply, patting his head.
“I am what?”
“On board.”
Jason squints at the whiteboard.  Nope, he can’t see his name on it.  “No, I’m not.  And no one told me about any competition either.”
“Silly goose,” Cass says, which has become her favorite phrase ever since Bruce used it once, “You are.  Top.”
Jason frowns, because he still doesn’t – JTWH.  Oh.
“And what do the rest of the letters stand for?” Jason grumbles, wondering what they’re tracking.  How many days since he killed someone.  How many days since he’s threatened them.  How many times he’s yelled at them.  “Jason Todd Was Here?  Jason Todd Water Hose?  Jason Todd –”
“Wayne,” Bruce says quietly from next to him.  “Jason Todd-Wayne.”
Jason swallows.  He can’t quite look at Bruce.  “What does the H stand for?”
Everyone gives each other shifty looks.
“Oh, wow, that bad, huh.”
“Hugs,” Steph rolls her eyes, “Jason Todd-Wayne Hugs.  So, no, actually, you can’t win, because you can’t give yourself a hug.”
Jason blinks at her.
“Steph,” Tim whines from somewhere near his elbow.
“I said that no one was allowed to tell,” Dick sighs, “I said it explicitly.  I warned you all.”
“Tt.  If the competition ends because of you, Brown, I will take my vengeance.”  Damian’s grip tightens on Jason’s leg.
“Well, it was either the truth or whatever his imagination was coming up with,” Steph shrugs.  She’s looking at him like he’s going to disappear.
“Wait,” Jason croaks, because he lost the thread of this conversation somewhere, “You’ve been having a competition…over hugs?”
“Over your hugs.”

Deleted scenes of my timkon au (they would have made the cut- well they still might this is just brainrot bc I'm tired of chapters that need logic)
Kon: I kind of like "Kon-El" ngl . Nice name he gave me, it could go as a nickname for Conner too.
Lex: I came up with Conner first. *Rolls eyes*
Lex: Superman is very unoriginal.

Dick: but you guys get ice cream together after ditching us at Galas all the time?
Damian: We are... on amicable terms despite my distaste towards him.
Damian: He also can hold a decent conversation regarding the behaviors of cats *in Damian terms this means talking about cute cat shenanigans*
Damian: He is also good with Cats. Alfred is a stellar example.
Dick: Oh my god my little brothers are adorable *cries*
*somewhere else*
Tim: *suffering as he coughs- he patted an alley cat that Damian found and his spleenless ass got sick*

*mob boss using a MACHINE GUN on the bats (Robin and Red Robin let's say) while they're knocked out from the gas that spread*
mob boss: why the fuck are they bulletproof what the fuck
*mud monster appearing out of nowhere and covering the bats to take them away while not even dirtying them*
mob boss: *sees it as a demonic creature taking away its masters as he gets knocked on his ass by the concrete and then it wraps around to hold him in place until Batman comes*
mob boss: fucking Gotham is out to get me THE CITY AND THE PEOPLE I JUST GOT BEAT BY CONCRETE
*Batman comes, sees Stray sitting in a corner trying to do his calculus homework on his cellphone*
mob boss: BATMAN- WHOS CHILD WAS SACRIFICED TO SUMMON YOUR FAMILY YOU DEMONS- *gets knocked out by air (Kon)*
Batman: *dry and disappointed but slightly amused* you could have also stopped Red Robin and Robin from inhaling the gas.
Kon: *shrugging as he's working on hw* I was told to stay out because they needed to see who could brave the gas the longest. They were both knocked out at the same time.

Note
I severely need Tim to get hit by The Clench a second time. I need him to cough blood and bleed from all orifices. I need him to get back on that medical bed and wrapped with a whole bunch of bandages. I want Tim to be on the verge of hopelessness because he doesn't believe he would make it. I want Bruce to be so firm in his denial, everyone believes his words as truth, making Tim super bitter on the inside but feeling touched that he actually cares. I want Tim to be on the verge of death, and Jason and Damian doing their utmost best to find a cure for Tim, but there's not enough time and their best doesn't feel like it's enough and. I need Dick to be his original, unhinged, rageful self on the warpath for whoever had the wonderful idea to give his baby brother The Clench a second time. I need Cass breaking bones and putting people on the verge of death because she's scared and angry and no one can stop her, not until her little brother is safe. And why Tim? Why not any other character? *grabs you by the face and squishes your cheeks* Because that boi is my blorbo and things need to happen to him
Tim barely survived the Clench with a fully functioning immune system. I doubt he'd survive a second dose... but that could be part of the angst.
Maybe he survives because Bruce already has the cure on hand, or maybe Ra's al Ghul releases a different deadly disease to take out Tim.
For Tim, I don't think slowly withering away in bed is something he can handle. He's meant to be up and helping others. He'd be so frustrated with his failing health, his constant sleeping (which loses a ton of time), and how his family hovers around him. He feels miserable (pain, fever, shaking limbs, vomiting, etc). He just wants to feel okay again. He wants his family to stop looking at him like that. He doesn't have enough energy to reassure or help them.
Tim is clenching the bed sheets as another family member sits by his bedside and confesses their regrets in case this is it. He hears the distinct pitches, tones, and defense mechanisms as they apologize for past transgression. With the way Tim's voice keeps sputtering into coughs, he can't interrupt or absolve them. He wishes they wouldn't do this.
He had forgiven them long ago.
Damian, a kid who's seen so much death, shouldn't be so shaken at Drake's frail figure. The sight of the person he's just starting to accept as his brother shouldn't cause the younger one's hands to shake. Tim has always been fallible (Damian has seen it when he pushed Tim off that dinosaur), but he's never been so defenseless and weak. The youngest Wayne can hardly leave his post at Tim's door or bedside.

Batfam and Batsis Headcannon: Ages 17-21
Tim:
Timothy Jackson Drake, was a little menace. Y/n knew that from the Time she found him on her doorstep. Tim was the first person Y/n felt like she had to really be careful of her actions in front of. Not because Tim would copy her but because she felt like she was supposed to set an example something she never had to do.
Tim becoming Robin was a bit of a blur for her, she just remembers them patrolling a lot and Tim asking her a lot questions in the beginning.
Tim didn’t live at the manor right away in fact it was a bit into his career before he fully moved in after his parents respected passings.
Tim felt guilty for not saving his father and Y/n spend a lot of time with him to help resolve this feelings because it wasn’t Tim’s fault.
Tim was the little brother she always wanted, he steal her eyeliner and she storm into his room and pick with him while Kon,Bart and Cassie would come over. They loved Tim’s cool older sister and she liked them.
Tim had trouble with words, especially with his feelings. It was no surprise to anyone that Tim walked into his sister’s room on a random Thrusday Night with blush on his face.
“What is it Little Bird?” She inquired while still having her face shoved in a Physics textbook.
Scratching the back of his neck and breathed out a strangled sign,” How do you know when you like someone?”
Y/n turned her gaze to him,”Like or Like Like?”
“Like like.”
“Boy or Girl?”
His blush grew even darker,”Well uhh..”
“Doesn’t matter to me, but just be your normal dorky self. Just don’t word vomit. You tend to do that Little Bird.”
Tim came out to his older sister first years later because she made Tim feel seen but not like it wasn’t a big deal.
Tim and Y/n formed a a very fun bond, it even rivaled his bond with Dick which made the older man a little jealous but it made him become more active with his younger brother which was something Y/n wanted him to do.
Patrol with Batgirl, Robin and Nightwing were the most comical nights Gotham had seen. You had a detective smartass Robin, a chatty hot headed older Bird, and the sassy and mysterious Batgirl. Riddler still has nightmares.
But things began to change and soon other additions became known.
Cassandra:
Y/n had made it clear to Bruce that she wanted a sister, not that she didn’t enjoy her time with Tim and Dick and even Jason. But she wanted someone who could relate to her.
One night after patrol Y/n returned to the Clock Tower and was introduced to Cass. She didn’t talk and once Barbara told her about what happened to her it only made Y/n more protective of her.
Between her and Babs Cass began to think for herself and not like how she was programmed by her father. Barbara taught Cass more about personal and emotional development, but Y/n showed Cass how to be a teenage girl.
She took her to the mall with Tim and let her pick out clothes she felt comfortable with, she let Cass take clothes from her closet in the end because it made her feel connected to people.
Y/n was training and Cass enter the room,”Sorry didn’t realize I was taking so long, I’ll clear out if you like.”
“No,your fine.” Cass responses. Cass takes a stance in front of her. Y/n gets in stance and they too spar. Cass can quickly match Y/n’s attacks and defenses.
The two sparred for a few hours before calling it. “Not bad Sis, how about a Root Beer Float on me?”
“Okie.”
Y/n wraps her arm around Cass and the pair walk out the gym. They two Wayne Sisters scare Bruce. And most men except Alfred.
Y/n was getting ready to graduate Gotham Academy with Honors and she felt kinda sad and Cass appeared before her and engulfed her in a hug.
“She would be proud.” She knew Cass was referring to Y/n’s Mom. “Thank you Sissy.”
Everyone attended,Bruce, Alfred, Dick, Barbara, Tim, and Cass. She was so happy and Bruce threw a party at Wayne Manor for the graduation class.
Y/n took Cass from a group of kids she met at school and took her to her room.
“Cass I your aware that I’m leaving in a few weeks for college in Metropolis.” Cass nodded.
“As much fun as it would be to tag along with Uncle Clark, I just won’t have to time or really need to patrol. Which is why I talked to Babs a few days ago and I’m stepping down as Batgirl.”
Cass understood what she was saying but she also knew how hard Y/n worked to become the new Batgirl.
Y/n took a black box and handed it to Cass. “Me and Babs think your ready and I couldn’t ask for someone else to carry on the mantle.” Cass tore open the box to find her own Batgirl suit.
Tears formed in Cass’s eyes and she hugged Y/n
“I won’t let you down.”
“I know sis, your gonna rock.” Y/n smiled and hugged her back.
Stephanie:
Y/n had taken a step down from being Batgirl full time meaning for a short time Robin patrolled alone. She felt guilty but soon she learned that her little bird had a friend.
Y/n meet Stephanie when Tim and her became official, this was only a few months before she totally resigned from the mantle but she did get to work with Steph a hand full of times.
One of the last times was when ClueMaster escaped from Blackgate and threaten Stephanie’s Mom.
Spoiler spring into action and Batgirl responded to Oracle’s request to assist her. The two formed a plan of action to enter Stephanie’s Mom job and save the hostages.
“You take the left side and I’ll go right. Take the goons out swiftly and hard.”
“Rodger that Batgirl.”
The pair made quick work of the goons, and finally found ClueMaster who had Steph’s mom hostage.
Once they save her she was anything but thankful and resented her daughter for re-prisoning her father.
Batgirl called her own and made the woman feel bad but the damage was done as Stephanie told Batgirl on a rooftop later that night, she learned that she wasn’t to blame for her parents choices nor should she have to atone for her father’s sins.
“Your Steph, never let anyone tell you stop being who you are and never stop being a light for others.”
Even once Stephanie and Tim relationship became more friendly and less romantic Y/n loved the blonde just as much.
Steph would drive up on the weekends with Cass and visit her in college. They would go shopping, try new restaurants and go fun amusement parks.
Stephanie and Y/n become really good friends and if Y/n needed to talk someone who was her siblings or Dad Steph was always willing to listen.
Jason Pt 2:
When Red Hood first emerged Y/n was away in school and no one told her. She had a long weekend and came home to surprise her family. Alfred was the most surprised to find her at the door but by the look on his face it didn’t seem like she was the first surprise this week.
She soon found out about Dick’s bruised ribs and broken leg, and Tim being attacked at Titan’s tower. Even Bruce had token a beaten from his last encounter with Red Hood and Y/n was furious.
“HOW DARE YOU NOT TELL YOU GOT HURT!” She scolded her father.
“y/n, please we didn’t want to worry you, we have everything under—“
She scoffed,”Like Hell you do! Your hurt Dick is black and blue, and Tim looks like he just did three tours in World War Two.”
She bit her tongue,”Who is he Father?”
Bruce sighed,”Y/n..”
“I won’t ask twice.”
Bruce didn’t answer her but instead pressed the button on the computer that light up with the DNA test he just got the results back minutes before her arrival.
Over the course of a minute several different emotions washed over her face and it landed on stoic. She turned on her heels and left the cave with Bruce calling for her to wait.
In a hours time she stood in front of a door in an abandoned apartment complex and knocked on the door. When no once answered she kicked the door down. And in the center of the room was a man laughing with a sack on his head as he was tied and chained to a folding chair.
She marched to him and ripped off the sack and there was bloody and bruised Joker.
“Ooh hello your the beautiful Wayne Daughter that left. Welcome back cupcake.” He chuckled. The sound of the gun clicking filled the room with Joker’s blooded laughing.
“Turn around.” The deep voice ordered. Smirking to herself, “if you were gonna shot me you’d pull the trigger already big brother.”
The room is silent and before Red Hood screams in pain, when Y/n turns around his hand is bloody and a Batarang is on the ground.
“Stand down Jason, he’s not worth it.” Batman brooded.
“You never understood me Old man, I never wanted to kill innocent people. Not Harvey, not Bane just him. He took me away from you..from her. From everything.”
The two had a heated argument and fight that ended with Bruce shielding Y/n from the explosion of the building.
Y/n returned to Jason’s grave and laid flowers. Sighing to herself she stood up and turned to the tree adjacent to his grave.
“You could have found me, I would have helped you Jay. I still can.” Jason appeared in a hoodie and refused to look her in the eyes.
“You always saw the best in me, even when I didn’t deserve it.”
“Bullshit Todd, you can play that song all you want but it doesn’t work on me.” She snapped.
He finally met her gaze, it was the first time since prior to his death did she see his face. His blue eyes now a deep green, a white tuff of hair at the base of his hair, a scare on his left cheek, his eyes look tired as well.
“I’m not who I used to be, I’ve changed, I’ve killed and I can’t change that. They don’t see it but what I do is stop the murders, rapistst the monsters from hurting people.”
She signed,”I won’t lie and say Dad’s ways have flaws but so do yours,” she glanced at the tombstone and dusted it off.
“I remember you taking to me, you visted me all the time.” He grinned .
“And now your back.” She smiled
He didn’t meet her gaze,” it’s not gonna be happy in the Manor, maybe never again.”
“You could try to find out what you want Jay, not many get a second chance at life.”
He nodded and with that he sighed with a grin,”I make no promises, I’ll see you around sis.” And he left the graveyard and she sighed to herself knowing that it was possible but it would take sometime for them to get Jason back.
When she returned to the manor she heard shouting and screaming. She rushed into the living room where Bruce and Dick were trying to keep Tim and and a young boy from killing each other.
“That fucking Demon cut me!” Tim shrieked.
“And I’ll draw more of your pathetic blood imposter.” The boy hissed being held in a tight grip by Dick.
“I can’t leave you idiots alone for five minutes!” Y/n snapped and all the eyes turned to her.
The boy with the deep copper skin and jade eyes was the first to speak,”Is she another one of your bastards you plucked off the sidewalk.” He hissed at Bruce.
Y/n eyed the boy before she turned back to her father,”And who might he be.”
“Damian, he’s your little Brother Y/n.” A tired Bruce clarified.
“Brother!”
“SHE’S MY SISTER!”

Happy Birthday
“Surprise!”
A knife was in Jason’s hand in the heartbeat it took for the lights to flicker on. His eyes darted from laughing face to smiling face until he had checked over everyone in the room- all in the time it took to drop his bag and raise his knife-wielding arm.
Bruce was hovering like an uncomfortable shadow behind Damian and Tim, Stephanie lounged on his kitchen counter like a heathen with Cass predictably at her side, Alfred was filming with a gently scuffed phone, Kori and Roy were blowing party horns, Babs was even next to Tim, and Dick was of course at the center of it all. All in all, Jason was now faced with ten unwanted guests in his home. Go fucking figure.
Dick was the one to step forward, wasn’t he always?, still grinning like a fool as he gently took the knife from him, “Took you long enough to show up, Little Wing,” the acrobat wrapped an arm around the larger man’s shoulders, “Figures you’d be late to your own party.”
Jason’s tongue felt leaden as he took in the red streamers hung from his rafters and the large Happy Birthday spelled in silver balloons. His hands felt clammy and he itched for the knife now safely tucked in his brother’s pocket. Unconsciously, his fingers curled into fists as he croakily said, “Didn’t ‘spect an ambush, Dickie.”
Dick tutted like Jason had just said he didn’t expect the sky to be blue, “C’mon, Jaybird, you know better than that.” He did, he truly did, but he didn't expect something for today of all days.
Roy stepped forward, grinning like a fucking idiot in a way that made Jason’s chest tighten, and pulled him into a bro-hug, “Happy birthday,” the archer’s grip tightened, and his voice lowered as he continued, “Star and I can blow this bitch to hell if you want to get out.”
Jason, while not religious, was ready to thank whatever higher power was out there that he had Roy and Kori in his life. Jason forced air back into his lungs and squeezed his fellow Outlaw, “I’ll be okay. They need this,” he patted the redhead’s back, a clear signal for get the fuck off me before I stab you, and accepted the armful of Tamaranean princess.
Kori, ever the least subtle of her teammates, gleefully exclaimed, “Happiest of birthdays, dear one.” She lifted them both off the ground and squeezed hard enough to make something in Jason’s chest creak, “I have informed the Bats that I will burn them if they don’t behave,” she pulled away enough for Jason to see her eyes glowing a fiery green despite her large smile, “and I have brought a present!”
Jason huffed a half laugh as he was lowered back down. Tim offered him an odd sort of half-hug that was followed by Damian's frankly ridiculous handshake. Dick tried to snag him in one of his nightmare hugs of doom, but Roy distracted him with some gossip about the old Titans. Stephanie fully attempted to spear tackle him (fortunately missing), and Cass managed to pin his arms for a hug. Babs simply gave him a stern look, and he was forced into a squatted embrace. He and Bruce just exchanged nods.
But Alfred, Jason let himself be tugged into the old man’s gentle embrace, and he was immediately reminded of better days. Back when every single breath didn’t hurt, back when he could see an action movie without being tossed into fight or flight, back when he could work on a car without having a panic attack, back before he ruined everything.
Jason sniffed a little as he pulled away, blinking hard to push back tears that physically would never appear. He sat down at the table, tolerating the half-noogie Dick tried to give him before Kori nailed him with a star bolt, sending him staggering back a few steps. His smile turned genuine for a few seconds, right up until the cake came out.
There was a large 20 emblazoned across the top in chunky red letters.
That can’t be right. He felt his face fall in real-time as he stared at the burning candles.
He wasn’t twenty.
He had died when he was fifteen, four months before his sixteenth birthday. He came back in October, but he was catatonic for almost two years.
He wasn’t twenty.
He hadn’t aged when he was dead. He hadn’t really aged when he was walking around brain-dead. Right up until they dunked him in the pit, the lights were on, but no one was home.
A dead boy can’t age, right?
He wasn’t twenty- he didn’t even have a driver’s license.
The candles on the cake burned all the way into the icing before he was aware again. Roy was on one side, Kori on the other, as they tried to pull him out of the darkness in his own mind. He loved them both so much it made his chest ache. Jason’s eyes flickered between the other faces at the table, and blurs of memories, shadows, and nightmares looked back at him.
He wasn’t twenty- he couldn’t be.
The world shattered around him in a ghoulish kaleidoscope of greens and reds, fire and blood reaching out and pulling him under. He never turned sixteen, he never turned seventeen, he never turned eighteen, he never turned nineteen- he couldn’t be turning twenty.
The monsters around his table lurched forward in a horrifying swirl of colors that made bile rise up his throat. The hand on his left arm was gently shaking him, but he was beyond that. Jason couldn't breathe there was fucking laughter coming from somewhere and he was scared-
Jason squeezed his eyes shut and bit firmly down on his tongue, trying desperately to regulate his breathing and heart rate. Blood filled his mouth as he shot up from his chair- I’m alive, I’m okay, I’m alive- His hands reached out for Kori and Roy, but they came up empty.
His eyes shot open-

Cozytober Days... the rest? Game night, Wrapped in a soft, fuzzy blanket.
masterpost
It was unnerving how everyone’s attention turned to him as soon as he exited the bedroom. Jason scooted his chair back in clear invitation and Danny took up the offer. Once he’d settled into Jason’s lap, one of Jason’s large hands pressed comfortingly against Danny’s stomach, he gave a little wave to the table.
“People, this is my boyfriend Danny, he/him,” Jason said. “Danny, the protective jackass—”
“Hey!”
“—is my friend Roy, he/him. Next to him is Kori, she/her. Then we’ve got Cass, my sister, she/they; Babs, she/her; Dick, one of my brothers, he/they; Tim, another brother and a menace, any; Donna, she/her; and Wally, he/him.”
Danny looked around the group, trying to take in all the names and faces. Faces at least were easier. He leaned back against Jason’s broad chest and smirked a little. “Lots of red.”
Jason snorted. “Yeah, no, that would be Dick’s fault. He has a thing for dating redheads.”
“Jason,” Dick said with a pout while Roy gave another offended ‘hey’.
“We,” Roy continued and motioned between himself and Dick, “did not date.”
Wally coughed obviously into his hand. “Fuck buddies.”
Tim slowly leaned forward to look at Dick. “Really? Even Roy? You have a problem, Dick.”
“It’s not my fault that redheads are the best people,” Dick said primly.
Kori and Roy high-fived with a ‘hell yeah’. Danny hid his smile behind a stolen sip of Jason’s drink. He could see why these people were Jason’s friends.
“Do you want us to redeal, Danny, or are you going to be on Jason’s team?” Babs asked.
Danny quickly motioned to Jason. Being out there with them was enough for right then.
“Okay,” she said with an easy smile.
Play resumed; Jason explained the basic rules quietly into Danny’s ear. Everyone was (almost suspiciously) patient and accepting of Danny being there and didn’t even prod him for any information until the absurd amount of pizza had been delivered. Danny squeezed in next to Jason on the large arm chair, still needing to be close if he was going to be out there.
It was Dick who started. “So Danny, how did you and Jason meet?”
“Library,” Danny said after he had swallowed his bite of margarita pizza. They variety the group had ordered was impressive. “At GU.”
“A library is usually a good place to find Jason,” Roy teased.
Jason just took another bite of his supreme and flicked Roy off.
“Are you still at Gotham University?” Babs asked. After Danny’s nod she added, “What degree are you getting?”
Those words were a little harder to force out, after what had happened that day. Jason’s thumb brushed under the too large sweater and against Danny’s skin. Danny took a breath. He could do this. He didn’t care what that professor thought. “Social work.”
“Oh, that’s great! I’m a librarian myself. It’s nice to have more people going into social based works,” she said with a really kind smile.
Danny smiled back and tucked himself a little shyly closer to Jason. He didn’t mean to be shy about things, but it was a lot of attention all on him. He wasn’t used to that when he wasn’t out as Phantom, and Phantom was years in the past at this point and something that Danny was still working through in therapy.
Tim was apparently ‘next’ and asked, “Where are you from?”
Danny motioned over his shoulder. “Ohio. Glad to be gone.”
Roy barked out a surprised laugh like that, but Tim just squinted for a moment before pulling out his phone.
“Holy shit,” Tim said, “that is actually the direction that Ohio is.”
Danny just shrugged.
“He’s like a passenger pigeon,” Jason said with a chuckle. “Danny always seems to know what direction north is, so as long as he knows where something is relative to where he is, he can find his way there.”
“Passenger pigeons are extinct,” Tim said.
“That too,” Danny quipped back, hiding his large smile with another bite of his pizza.
Jason’s laughter definitely confused everyone, but he just shook his head and didn’t explain. Thankfully, the attention left Danny for a bit, though there was obvious effort to include Danny in the conversation, verbally or not. It was… sweet of them. It was a surprise.
It was even more of a surprise when Wally suggested that Danny play a main roll in the next game.
“See, one player actually isn’t supposed to talk out loud at all!” Wally explained excitedly as he unpacked the box. “Their job is to play the ‘ghost’ who is giving clues to everyone else about who killed them and where with these cards!”
Danny took a sip of his beer to avoid laughing at the idea of him playing a ghost in a game.
“Because you’re a ghost,” Wally continued, “you can’t say anything to the ‘living’. So you wouldn’t have to talk! Which… like, I’m hoping doesn’t come across as rude at all? I just thought maybe it would be something fun. If you don’t want to do it or don’t like the idea or if I’m being a total jackass right now—”
Wally really could talk fast, couldn’t he? Danny made his thoughts known by taking the folded up game screen and setting it up in front of himself.
Instantly, Wally grinned. “Yeah? Okay! So let me explain how this game all goes. Come on, guys, get your butts over here.”
There was some good natured grumbling, but the few people still clustered around the island came back over to the table. A folding chair had been added to the now cramped space so that Danny had his own seat (not that he would have minded continuing to sit in Jason’s lap).
It proved fun playing the ‘ghost’ in the game. There was a surprising amount of thinking he had to do on his end and then he got to watch the rest of the pull the clues apart in all of the right and hilariously wrong ways. This group’s ability to over analyze was amazing and Danny enjoyed watching every moment of it. Thankfully they got there in the end.
“I am avenged,” Danny said when their final guess was right.
The table cheered and some of them high-fived. Danny smiled as he watched. It was much easier to smile then than it had been at the start of his visit. The smile turned into covering a yawn though as the exhaustion of everything hit.
Jason obviously noticed. He leaned forward to gather up the cards. “Okay you invading heathens. I think that’s the last game for the day. I know some of you have other shit to get to also this evening.”
“I guess it has gotten late,” Dick said, jumping obviously in to support Jason’s order despite some of the other good natured grumbling at the table about having to wrap up already. “But Danny, if you want, we’re having brunch at the Manor on Sunday, you’re welcome to join us.”
Danny froze at the offer. He couldn’t help the gut response even though he relaxed again quickly. Jason had been right, at least about those who were at the table tonight, his family were fine with Danny’s lack of words. After the initial awkwardness, Danny had been okay with not being able to say everything he wanted—or as much as he ever was okay with it.
“That sounds nice,” Danny said after a moment of thought later. “If I can make it.”
“We get it if not,” Dick said with an understanding smile. “It was still great to meet you. Now I can bother Jason about his cute boyfriend.”
“He so will,” Tim said from where he was trying to untangle the mess of coats and hand out the right thing to the right person.
“Of course he will,” Jason grumbled, but there was a softness to the complaining. He reached over and draped an arm behind Danny’s chair, apparently content to let the others do the picking up from their surprise invasion.
“It’s my legal right as a big brother,” Dick said.
Cass raised her hand.
“Yes, you have that right too as a big sister,” Dick said to her. Cass grinned in Jason’s direction.
“Okay, yeah yeah,” Jason said. “Wally, take the leftovers if you want them. I’ll deal with the dishes and bottles. Get, vermin.”
“Apparently we are mice now,” Kori said to Roy.
“Or rats.”
“Or bats.”
“Oh, totally not bats, only the Gotham vermin gets to be bats.”
“Duh.”
The group continued to debate what type of vermin eat of them was as they pushed through the door and out of Jason’s apartment. Jason got up after the door closed and they had a few moments of silence to lock the door and start shoving plates and glasses into the dishwasher.
“Thanks for putting up with the surprise invasion,” Jason said.
“They were nice. It was… nice,” Danny said. He folded up the chairs that could and set them against the wall.
“Still. And also I’m proud of you for coming out and being part of it. I know that’s hard for you on the good days.”
“It is, but this… this helped it be a better day,” Danny said. He was still speaking slower than normal, but at least the words were coming to him now.
Jason glanced up with one of his soft smiles. “I’m glad. I knew they’d love you.”
“They don’t love me,” Danny said. He could feel himself blushing, but stubbornly ignored that and picked up the beer and soda bottles to empty and recycle.
‘’You’re bound to be the new family favorite,” Jason teased.
“Lies. Can’t. I’m not even a Wayne.”
“Not yet,” Jason said it so easily and yet Danny couldn’t only look at him in surprise.
Jason came over and kissed Danny, gob smacked expression and all. He took the rest of the bottles out of Danny’s hand, dumped them in the recycling, and then pulled Danny close.
“I’m thinking soft blankets, catching up on some bad reality shows, and cuddling on the couch,” Jason said.
“I, yeah,” Danny said, trying to get his mind moving again. “That sounds like a really nice nice.”
“Good.” Jason kissed Danny again. “Go make one of your little nests of blankets. I’m going to start the dishwasher and I’ll be right over.”
“Got it,” Danny said and basically bounded to the couch and wrapped a blanket around his shoulders right away.
He didn’t know about the future. He didn’t know if he would be a Wayne or what would happen with school or where he’d be in five years. He didn’t know any of that, but he did know that coming over to Jason’s worked as it always did and the day was ending much better off than it had been. He did know that he loved Jason. He did know that Jason loved him. And right then, all of that was just perfectly enough.

For @casscainweek Day 2: Alone | Together
Because Cass totally has Eldest Daughter Syndrome.
Summary: Cass knows she’s supposed to be happy. But being the emotional pillar of her family and shoving herself into whatever role they need is killing her. (Cass is nineteen too. People forget that, sometimes. But she’s nineteen, and if Cass were someone else, it would matter.)
Characters: Cassandra Cain, Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Duke Thomas, Damian Wayne, Stephanie Brown
Warnings: Blink-and-you'll-miss-it reference to canonical sexual assault, messed-up family dynamics that might be considered emotional abuse
You can read it here or on AO3!
Cass knows she’s supposed to be happy. She’s living in a big house with her big family all together. Everyone is getting along. Her world is overflowing with love. Cass knows she’s supposed to be happy, but she just feels alone.
Cass is Batman’s daughter, but Bruce doesn’t need a daughter. He needs someone to remind him that he is human, that the family is human too. Bruce likes to push people away. Cass can’t let him. If Bruce pushes people away, he will fall, and the Bat will fall with him. And Cass’s family will fall with the Bat. Cass sees what his body is showing and what her family’s bodies are showing. The emotional chasm that words just can’t cross. And then, Cass becomes a bridge. If she must lie down so others can cross along her back, she will do it.
Damian will only cry in front of her—no one else. If Cass weren’t so insecure, she would feel honored. Trusted. Instead, she feels like she doesn’t count as a person. But Damian needs to cry sometimes. It’s good for him, Dick says. So, Cass wraps her arms around her little brother and tugs him close and does not speak. Cass is good at not speaking.
And Damian misses his mother. He can’t just go to Selina, and Bruce is Father, not Mother, which is not the same. So, if Damian whispers Ummi into her chest sometimes, Cass doesn’t say a word.
But Cass can’t be Damian’s mother. She’s just a placeholder. A doll with a comforting shape and arms to hold him. Cass knows she is helping. Cass knows she should be happy.
It still hurts.
Duke likes someone to play pranks with him. He always has an idea. Cass is always willing to help. When Duke is fake-smiling, Cass touches him gently on the shoulder and asks him “How are you?” and he tells her whatever is wrong. And Cass tells him how he’s feeling, which he often doesn’t know, because people are like that. Sometimes Duke argues, but he always agrees with Cass in the end, because she’s always right. She doesn’t like being always right.
Duke never asks how Cass is feeling. It’s not out of a lack of care. Duke cares. Duke cares so much. Duke loves Cass, and she basks in it, the fact that her brother loves her with the warmth of the sun. But Cass can read him: He always thinks Cass is fine, and Cass doesn’t know why.
Tim needs someone to remind him what his body is telling him. He ignores his body when it says he is hungry or thirsty or tired. So, Cass finds Tim and tells him on his body’s behalf. Her silly little brother, who needs reminders of when to eat.
Tim gets nightmares, sometimes. Now that Cass sleeps just down the hall from him, she can hear it when he cries out. So, she slips into his room and curls up next to him and watches as his breathing evens out. On nights when he doesn’t get calmer, he jolts awake, eyes like a rabbit, body tense with fear. “You’re here,” Cass tells him. “You’re home. You’re safe.”
Occasionally, Tim asks, “You got there, right? You got there in time?”
And Cass says, “Yes,” and wonders if someone would get there in time for her.
Tim isn’t the only one with nightmares. Cass splits comforting duty with Bruce and, when he’s at Pennyworth Manor, Dick. But when Cass has nightmares, she doesn’t make any noise at all. In all of her worst dreams, she’s silent, and she wakes up alone.
Dick tries to take care of everyone too. Cass looks at him and sees. She doesn’t know how to tell him she understands. But when Dick and Barbara fight, Cass is the one who picks up the pieces on both sides. Hand on shoulder. Tub of ice cream for Barbara. Takeout for Dick. Listening to the problems from both sides. Fixing them, because if Cass doesn’t fix them, who else will?
Dick thanks Cass, for taking some of the burden. For helping their little brothers. Cass smiles.
It’s not a real smile. Dick doesn’t notice.
Steph likes to talk. Cass sits across from her and they paint their nails. Steph likes to pause to let Cass say something. It’s nice. Cass’s brothers talk fast, and by the time she has gotten her mouth to say words, the conversation has already moved on. But Steph talks about college and boys and summer jobs, and Cass doesn’t really understand at all. So, she doesn’t have much to say.
Steph asks Cass about her problems. Cass is tired. Her head is aching with all the effort of putting the words in and spinning them around and putting the meanings out. She wants the words gone. She wants to rest. But over the last hour, Cass has watched as Steph’s shoulders relaxed, as her body grew calm. Steph needs this. So there is nothing, really, that Cass can say.
Cass doesn’t like Jason much, but she loves him. She loves everyone, but her family especially, and Jason is family. Cass tells Jason when he is being silly. He swings, emotions jerking around in a way that sometimes terrifies her. When he is too focused, too obsessed, Cass draws him back. When he is needs Bruce’s love, Cass assures him it is there. When he thinks everyone hates him, Cass reminds him that it isn’t true.
Jason also needs someone to call him Little Brother and remind him that he’s still young. He is nineteen and has a trail of bodies that makes Cass sick, but he is her brother all the same. She adds the little on because, despite his protest, it makes him feel safe.
Cass is nineteen too. People forget that, sometimes. But she’s nineteen, and if Cass were someone else, it would matter.
She thinks she wants a doll that she doesn’t have to cut with weapons. She thinks she wants a friend she doesn’t have to save. She thinks she wants to try dating a girl, but the thought is also terrifying. Because everyone she loves, she has to help, and it’s weighing on her shoulders and tugging her heart in a thousand different directions until it strains and rips and explodes. Cass takes care of a family; she can’t take care of a girlfriend too. But she wishes she could try it anyway.
It's a normal day, with a normal fight. Cass is at the dinner table with her family. Jason and Bruce are arguing, loud, loud, loud. They don’t understand each other. Cass understands them. If they keep fighting, Jason will storm off and go do something reckless. Bruce will brood and be upset. And Tim will be upset too, because when Jason isn’t there, Bruce looks at Tim with some of his Jason-love even though Tim needs Tim-love.
“Stop!” Cass shouts. Bruce and Jason fall silent. All eyes turn to Cass, who points at Jason. She has done this too many times. “You’re scared,” she says. It’s obvious, but Bruce never sees it. “You think he doesn’t want you.”
“No, I’m not,” Jason lies.
“And you!” Cass points at Bruce. No one tells her it’s rude to point. She wishes they would. “Scared too. Of yourself.”
Bruce looks down at his plate but doesn’t bother lying. He can’t lie to Cass, and he knows it.
Jason deflates. “I already forgave you, old man,” he says.
Cass leans down to Bruce’s ear, graceful as a dancer, and whispers, “Tell him. You love him. Tell him.”
“I love you,” Bruce says.
Jason looks away. Tim smiles. Bruce dares to smile too. The argument ends, and the family eats.
“Thanks, Cass,” Duke says. “I don’t know what we’d do without you.”
Cass thinks about the times she has convinced Bruce to get backup. The times she has persuaded Damian not to go off on his own. The times she has held her family members close to keep them from fighting recklessly in their grief or anger or fear. “Die,” Cass says solemnly.
Her family laughs like it’s a joke.
