i don't understand when people criticize george lucas. he gave us ten thousand clones of TEMUERA MORRISON
#also. loser babygirl anakin.#also. please. look at pictures of ewan mcgregor in the 90s and tell me you would've casted him as a younger obi wan. I WOULDN'T HAVE#but he had a vision. and god WHAT VISION#I Trust That Man#anyway I've. I've been doing some anatomy practice and in between stuff i decided to draw some clones and i had to look up images of#temuera morrison so. <3#I've mostly drawn crosshair since 1. the first ref i took kinda looked like him 2. i am angry at the writers of tbb lmao#BUT I've been thinking of redesigning a clone me and a friend designed for the first version of my little story from like. 5 years ago#it was honestly the best part of the story but sadly i couldn't salvage it. the clone became super close to his general's padawan#and helps her fake her death when she decided to leave the jedi and join the killiks. it is. quite obviously. still a death in some way. we#thought of their story since they met til they depart but we were unsure how to close his story. i kinda wanted him to desert the empire#after order 66 to join the killiks too and re-meet her/get hiveminded with her lol. but it would take away some of the tragedy wouldn't it?#star wars#sw#temuera morrison#star wars clones#anakin skywalker#ewan mcgregor#obi wan kenobi#I'm very likely going to delete this lately (as usual)#g posting

This is a rant about "The Boys" comics parody version of Billy Batson/Shazam!
TW: Ranting, swearing, "The Boys" comics, and mention of S/A
You guys know about "The Boys" comics and how they did a side story of a fake Billy Batson where they made him a r*pist. WHAT THE FUCK!!!! You're telling me they made a kid into one of the most disgusting kinds of people in the world when he could have an incredibly unique perspective of the universe in "The Boys"!
I know the comics are meant to show the evil side of superheroes but that can be done in infinitely better ways! Like showing how Vought would react to a potentially powerful child supe, showing how the people closest to supes change in response to the powers, showing how complex figuring out new powers are (especially as a child), showing how power can turn the most innocent people in society evil, showing how others might seek to control or manipulate the child, showing how the child may unintentionally cause harm to themselves or others due to a lack of understanding of the consequences, showing him idealizing superheroes and finding out the truth in his adult form, showing ect…
Literally anything else would have been better but the writers decided they wanted a cheap shocking side story! If they do add Billy into the tv show then they better change the story or not add him at all because I will not stand for this bullshit!
#billy batson#shazam#captain marvel#the boys#the boys comics#tw rant#tw mention of s/a#tw swearing#dc comcis#this makes me so incredibly angry#look how they massacred my boy!!!#if they're going to do a character like that then they should at least be an adult#don't think YOU should be a writer#in fact I asked you to NEVER write again#please ignore any spelling or grammar mistakes#I don't even watch the show or read the comics I just need to talk about this

not to bring tiktok drama on tumblr but like every time a ‘scandal’ comes out with one of these ‘production companies’ that make fan films i always hope we’re finally gonna discuss how they professionalize something that should be an hobbyist endeavor… and yet every single time i’m disappointed.
#like I know we’ve been talking about it here on tumblr and i remember seeing like one or two videos on tt about it#but other than that creators really don’t seem to be engaging critically with the impact that the very nature of what they’re doing has#and look i truly do love the art that some of the people involved in the project make#like arone is truly one of the most talented cosplayers i know#ethan is an amazing actor and I’ve followed him since before he was even in the marauders#dorian is a great writer and idk the others as well but I’m sure they are all great artists#((naming the just cause i feel like being vague would be worse in this case))#and i do believe they engaged with the project with the best of intentions#without knowing or trying to afford grace on past controversy#and it truly is a horrible predicament to have your work be tainted like that for something you had no control over#but like i do think we should be questioning the very idea of how this fanfilms have been made is inherently a problem#like fanfilms are essentially fanfiction on camera#so as long as a few cosplayers want to get together with their iphones write a script and shoot at the local park I don’t have a problem#but if you are putting in place a product that somehow requires you to fundraise consistently for two years then I have a problem with it#ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SELLING THE SCRIPT TO DO SO#cause even if that script hadn’t been ai generated#that script is fanfiction and you do. not. sell. fanfiction.#seriously like… do we need to go over our abc again?#like fanart and cosplayers are a bit different in the sense that people sell fanart/do commissions and they can be professional cosplayers#but for any other fanmade project that requires you to put pen to paper (or keyboard to chatgpt ig)#you need to be engaging with several ethical questions regarding any exchange of money#and personally i don’t think that there’s been engagement with those ethical reflections#and this isn’t about any of the people involved and not even about mischief productions specifically#it’s about a wider issue in how we have been collectively normalizing a way of doing things that should not be normal#and like yes star using ai and being overall not good is bad but like can we talk about EVERYTHING ELSE please

People who are censoring Emma Corrin at the Nosferatu premieres are the worst!
I’m not going to comment this on the Instagram post I’m referring to, because I’m not going to instigate anything hostile on that platform specifically because it’s not worth it, but to whoever you are, you’re so frustrating.
For anyone confused, here is what Emma wore to the Nosferatu premiere in London a few nights ago. A gorgeous Victorian-nightgown esque dress that compliments the one they’re seen wearing in the trailer. (Also their makeup was chefs kiss, 10/10, no notes.)

Today I was just checking my Instagram, and I came across an account that decided it was up to them to dictate how this wonderful actor was perceived on the red carpet…for a film they play an important role in…

First of all, what on earth is this? In the world we live in, in the situation the western political scale is falling right now, do you seriously deem it appropriate for you to pick and choose how this person is allowed to be perceived on a red carpet event for a movie they worked hard on??
Do you seriously think it’s appropriate for you to censor someone’s body, which is their form of expression and statement, because of a personal, borderline outdated, opinion? If Emma’s style choice is not to your taste (which is a bigoted take anyway because a quick scroll will show you the shirtless Bill photos on this account, so wonderful, you’re just ignorant), then…crop Emma out if that’s something you don’t want on your blog? Like I’m sorry there is absolutely no need for this. It’s so, so, so disrespectful.
I completely understand that this account belongs to a person, and they are within their right to decide what they do or don’t want on their blog (even if I disagree), HOWEVER, there are ways to do it without being deemed oppressive, condescending and bigoted. Cropping Emma out removes them from the focal point, again something I don’t agree with, but it doesn’t shove negative attention onto their choices either. Highlighting it with an ugly photoshop is not only rude, but actually insulting, and seems as though you’re purposefully forcing Emma’s look into the spotlight.
Let’s zoom in on that comment a little more, as well.

‘With a little help from me to Emma Corrin’ a condescending insinuation that you think they need your help, in need of your assistance, which immediately puts them below you. When, if I recall correctly, this is Emma’s livelihood and daily job. They seem to be quite well versed in how to rock a red carpet.
‘Just disrespectful 😒’ - how so, to who and to what? Just say you feed into the over sexualisation of breasts and go. Be honest about your bigoted view, don’t sugarcoat it with the essence that you’re ’doing them a favour’. Nobody else at the premiere seemed bothered, everyone was happy and taking photos and there wasn’t a hint of awkwardness to pick up on.

The second photo was at the Berlin premiere, but shows equally, if not more, nipple. (Which weirdly the poster I’m referring to had no issue with that outfit, but the London one? 🤔
Oh and also? Don’t put Emma’s name in the hashtags if you’re so damn scandalised by their attire.
And before anyone comes for me with ‘you’re overreacting’ or ‘it’s not that deep, don’t freak out’, it actually is that deep. This is disrespectful at best and hateful and oppressive at worst, even if the original poster didn’t intend it that way. It’s essentially saying ‘I’m taking away your self expression because it doesn’t fit with I deem acceptable for someone with breasts’.
In this vile world where women/afab trans people in general are consistently being oppressed, ordered around, abused and more, seeing someone be blatantly so rude like this is just…gross, especially around such an anticipated movie and with a wonderful cast. Please try and do better in the future, there’s no need for this.
Also. Here’s those shirtless photos of Bill, in case anyone wanted evidence of that. (Who is also slaying may I say!)

#I already know people are not gonna be happy about this but Idc tbh#my mutuals will know I’m super passive about most things because I hate confrontation but I just think this is unfair#and before anyone is like ‘you’re only saying this because it’s an actor you like 😤’#….yeah….because an actor I admire and look up to is going to get my attention as opposed to someone I don’t#but I still wouldn’t accept this behaviour towards anyone#anyway. Emma. even tho you’re not reading this. you’re slaying. it’s a moment. you’re a moment#(and BEFORE anyone is like ‘it’s just to get people talking about the movie’#1) you don’t know that. we don’t know why these are the looks Emma is going for. its never an actors sole decision anyway.#2) even if you’re right - so ???? still doesn’t call for obstruction does it#ANYWAY.#s things#nosferatu#nosferatu 2024#bill skarsgård#emma corrin#nosferatu premiere#Emma Corrin the monarch you are. please never stop slaying#I’m going to see Emma in the seagull in late Feb actually#I told my script writing lecturer about that and she was like ‘I want notes when you get back’ so 🫡 watch out seagull cast. I’m reporting#back to a professional play writer (and all I’m gonna do is gush gush gush.)

Do you have any gilgamesh translation recs for a beginner? Or like pros and cons of some?
woah hi whoever you are I love you... please go read Sophus Helle's 2021 translation*. It's incredible, and very accessible if you haven't tackled the text before. And like $16.
I'll drop some thoughts and notes below that might be helpful:
The most famous translation is probably Andrew George's, but if you have a book of Mesopotamian myths you might've encountered Stephanie Dalley. They're all good, but there's a few things that set Helle's version apart.
As we have it today, the text consists of fragments in different languages. This means we have giant gaps in the text (and smaller gaps of individual words or phrases).
Translators will generally guess at the smaller gaps and place the guesses [in brackets, like so]. This is cool, but it clutters the text. Larger gaps tend to be noted like [gap of 26 lines] or [the text resumes]. Again, this clutters the text, and makes it very hard to visualize what's gone.
Helle a) does not note when he's guessing at a word and b) uses interpuncts for larger gaps. So the text looks like this:
Here's an example line
· ·
And that was a missing line
It's way easier to read, and WAY easier to visualize just how much is missing. I think that alone makes it more approachable.
Helle also includes a foreword with some wonderful notes on both history and the translation process. These are super helpful for situating the original text and his translation in context, and again, really good for a newcomer. Plus, there's a bunch of essays at the end, and those are great reads as well.
*You asked for translation: however, the easiest possible entry point to the text is probably Stephen Mitchell's adaptation. It's a sorta condensed version of the story: he cuts some of the repetitive sections, assigns clarity to narrators, and fills in the gaps in text. It's a very easy read, and if you're just looking for the story, Mitchell's adaptation is quite good. I actually really like some of his additions, he's quite a skilled poet.
That being said, I think it's important to understand Mitchell's methodology before going in: he doesn't understand Akkadian, so the text is derived from other translations. This means that when he changes things, it's with respect to those other translations and not an understanding of the actual text. This isn't actually a problem because it's an adaptation and not a translation, but I think all readers should understand their relationship with any given translated work before going in, and Mitchell's version is no exception.
#yknow the weirdest thing is that i really thought i'd answered an ask like this before and i cannot for the life of me find it#anyway mitchell is a good writer and i couldn't do what he does blah blah blah it's a good entry point blah blah blah#but! if you're looking for something faithful to the text? go for a translation#i really do love helle's work and his essays in the back are INCREDIBLE i think about them like. a lot.#it's amazing what basic formatting choices do for a text#anyway good luck anon and happy reading. please come back to my inbox when you're done.#asks

I desperately need the 0bx writers and the fucking fandom to understand how fucking weird is is to have a fully grown-ass man who's known someone since they were a young teenager (and has attempted to kill that young teenager's friends and is completely antithetical to all her values) to then go ahead and DATE??? THAT TEENAGER? AFTER SHE JUST EXPERIENCED THE MURDER OF HER BOYFRIEND???
yall are fucking crazy, and some of yall started shipping them when kiara was fully still a minor
#please understand that if you ship raf3 with any of the canon p0gues that youre a freak and not in the fun quirky way#until THIS SEASON. all of them have been children#if the writers even TRY to do in this direction i might go fucking crazy#even one of the producers seems to hate the ship lol#and im pretty sure the entire cast does#out of all the non-canon ships????#of course you dont go for barry x raf3 (one of the most popular non-canon ships next to jjp0pe!!) cause yall are COWARDS#anyways#pretty sure i have half this fandom blocked cause yall are weird about the p0gues when until this season theyve been 16-17#i get thinking the actors are hot cause their actors are grown but come ON.#anyWAYS#hope yall dont see this lol- im yelling into the void#🪲#look away Lin#it’s too late now#but sshhhh

ok this is gonna sound wild. BUT. Me and my buddy @honeycomb-ferret are attempting to start up a clangen universe vaguely based on cults and evangelical religion, each clan being a different denomination of sorts. Very religious trauma/how growing up under different religions raises many types of different people type framework on a clangen blog. Rn I have it set as four clans but as little as three and as many as can border one another is fine, I love working with others and sharing universes and creativity
I also want to make it clear I’m not asking for free art. It would be your clangen blog and your cats and game and final decision on everything, I’m just looking to work with others on a creative project because I love bouncing ideas off others and sharing worlds with people. And if any of that sounds interesting to you hmu!!! Tags message whatever, just lmk if you’re interested!
#My clan is Pineclan. They live in Appalachia esque pine woods and are extremely evangelical!#Cyrus has Spiderclan and they’re very prophecy based. Demanding direct word from starclan(ie omens prophecies etc) to make any decisions#The leader cannot act starclans will. Only starclan#Also I was originally going on tree names but spider is different probably because they look down on those /other/ guys#My other main idea for one is hollyclan. Who puts a lot more value into formerly living cats as patrons in a sort of old catholic way#Or even like. Greek mythology esque perhaps. Idk! I’m not doing two so whoever takes that one can decide where to go with it!#And from that point we can just keep making stuff up#Also just btw I’m 20 and Cyrus is 18. If that matters to anyone#But beginner artists/writers/storytellers completely welcome on my end!!!#Little sticker that says ‘plays well with others’ on a little dog vest I’m theoretically wearing#ANYWAY. Yeah please lmk if interested!!#warriors#warrior cats#clangen project#warriors project#warrior cats ocs#clangen blog#clan generator#open to all#open to mutuals#warrior cats au#(kind of? Are fan clans an alternate universe technically?)

I’m fascinated about the oc stuff you mentioned! I only recently (within the last year) started creating oc’s so I’ve not really thought about creating images of them. I pretty much just save stock photos and photos of celebrities that resemble what I’m imagining, but that can be a pain. I’d love to hear more tips (as well as hearing about some of your oc’s if you’d like to share!)
A beloved mutual, hello!!
It's cool to hear that you're getting into oc stuff, making up little guys is so much fun! You'll have to tell me about yours sometime! I gotta admit though, saving stock and celebrity photos sounds like a hassle :/ I can't imagine what you'd do for a non-human oc…
If you're interested, I have a ton of picrew links I can share (and obviously I can give you ones with more specific aesthetics if you have something in mind, versus just dumping a truckload of random links on you).
I also really like using Heroforge (D&D Minifugre website) to make ocs (D&D related or not). They update pretty regularly so there's always better options (especially for non-human ocs) and colors for more specific customizations. It's especially cool because if you decide you really like it, you can buy your oc as a minifigure (but you can still use the site/save your oc even without buying anything)! I love free websites :3
Lately, I've been focusing on my batch of Minecraft ocs. I was supposed to join a big rp server, but that fell apart so now I'm just 'writing' it all myself. It's been really fun, and I like being able to build an intricate story and characters from a pre-set template that comes with making ocs within a pre-existing world/ruleset (It's just much easier on my busy brain for when I'm not working on my actual original writing or whatever XP). But because of this, I've also been making full Minecraft skins for those ocs. It's pretty much just pixel art, and I am nowhere near the levels of some of the proffesional skin-makers out there, but I've made some pretty cool stuff if I do say so myself!
TL;DR I am not good at art, but my imagination is very hyperactive, so having some of these online resources has helped a ton in just getting something out into the world. I am more than happy to share site links and answer any questions you have about navigating them if you wanna dm me! I'd also loove to talk about all my ocs more, but I know that can be a lot for a tumblr ask…especially if tumblr keeps eating them >:(
Thanks for messaging me, hope this helped some!
(Also, sorry for the weird formatting of this post tumblr is being dumb and I can't fix it for some reason...)
#why do the paragraph breaks look like that and why can't I change their spacing tumblr please the readability#i got an ask!#anyone is free to dm me for links btw#I figure it's easier to dm since I'm sure people will want more specific links#I could just make a master-post with all the links but that seems like too much#maybe if enough people ask idk#also been thinkin bout just making oc posts like I do in my writers/rp discord#I have little oc intros with some picrews for visual purposes#but I also don't wanna be annoying and flood people's dashes with stuff they don't care about#hopefully that all makes sense and isn't too many words...#I tried not to go into too many details bc I was excited lol#also trying not to add too much extra info in the tags like I normally do#especially about my frustration with the minecraft skins#I have so much fun making them and they look so good when they're done#But I am colorblind and never tried pixel art before just jumping into skin making soooo yeah lol#but I'm rambling now oops :3#anyways!#no cute emojis like usual bc i'm on desktop sad#heroforge#picrew#oc stuff

hi! (first time sending an ask so pls lmk if anyone has this emoji but-) i completely agree w/ u that writers should put a warning or smth that the fanfic will be catered to a certain body type as ive read fanfic w/o that and have felt insecure. not saying these writers are intentionally trying to make ppl feel bad, but they need to realize that sometimes their works do cater to thin/skinny body types and letting readers know that rly isnt a big deal. ty for always speaking ur truth! - 🐱 anon
hi nonny! im gonna answer all ur asks in one go <3 (no need to apologize for spamming! i had a moment of 'oh fuck did i say something wrong' but thats just anxiety brain speaking haha)
honestly! i genuinely don't mind if writers wanna intentionally write works for a thinner reader, it'd just be nice for them to write in a little warning at the beginning of the fic <3 i write chubby readers and mark 'em with chubby!reader so my audience knows, nothing wrong w doing it the other way around!
i also wanna say, i remember looking up "seventeen x chubby reader", "svt x chubby reader", or smth along those lines on tumblr but just knowing almost nothing will pop up 💔. until i saw a little fanfic called "tiger stripes" and was baffled that someone actually wrote something that had someone like me in mind. i remember feeling and being so happy about it. just thank you for your svt x chubby reader works because u make us chubby carats feel so seen 🫶🏼 - 🐱 anon
aaaa ty lovely!! im a chubby gal myself so i love writing chubby!reader fics from time to time when inspiration strikes <3 usually i try to keep everything body neutral so that anyone can enjoy my fics (even in my chubby reader fics, i try not to specify how big reader is so that anyone bigger can enjoy them), but sometimes i just gotta aim something for the chubby gals out there <3 tiger stripes is one of my most beloved fics and it genuinely makes me happy to think of my own stretch marks as tiger stripes hehe <3
ah anyway !! hope im not a bother w/ my asks !! i just wanted to tell u this despite my shyness bc idk, i rly feel like u needed to hear it 🙏🏼 anyway, i also wanna add ur a rly good writer and keep on doing what ur doing 👍🏼 - 🐱 anon
u are 100000% fine!! i love talking to anons and ur always welcome to pop into my inbox whenever you feel like it <3 + it does always help to hear that other chubby carats enjoy my work!! mwah mwah ur so sweet
tw fatphobia mentions (nothing explicitly fatphobic tho) // omg though.. i remember finding this [redacted] x reader fic and bc it appeared under the [removed] tag (smth like that) and i assumed that it was catered to fat ppl. but unfortunately it turned out to be incredibly fatphobic w/ it's themes, plot, + y/n. im not saying u have to be fat to write "x fat reader" fanfic but perhaps step away from writing for ppl u have no understanding of if ur gna write stuff like that.. - 🐱 anon
redacting the guy + the tag from your ask purely to try and avoid anyone tracking down the writer by any means! i trust my followers to not do something like that, but i'd feel better reducing that risk in any way <3
oh yikes! i think like... its worth it to sometimes address fatphobia in writing, but that kind of stuff 100% needs a warning! one of my current fic ideas involves a reader who is confident in her body but kinda relapses back to a previous mindset of 'maybe i Should be ashamed of it' after being fully insulted for being a bigger gal and the fic would absolutely have a warning.
i do agree that you def do not have to be a bigger person to write chubby/fat reader fics, but its definitely something you need to be mindful of when you wanna handle the heavier topics. im always happy to weigh in with my own thoughts + experiences, and im sure other people would be, too! no shame in trying to address it in themes/plot, but there's def a difference between endorsing those ideas and discussing them (and i'll say i have no idea which was being done in this fic)
(btw: no one go looking for this writer to say anything to them btw, we do not promote harassment on this blog--anon ur 100% fine to express ur opinions since i've seen fatphobia in reader fics, too, and it's okay to express discomfort with the idea. i'm always open to discussing things as long as they don't point too directly to anyone's work--and i'm equally open to taking down anything that pinpoints a certain writer.)
anyway ur 100% fine to send as many asks as u want!! im always happy to talk to people esp abt topics like this (or in general too!) <3 ty for being polite tho mwah mwah ur v cute
#🐱 anon#wooahaes.ask#asks.anon#fatphobia tw#(for a mention in another ask anon sent)#(im serious btw i removed the guy + the tag to reduce any risk of the writer being found)#(please do not go looking for the writer)

A writer friend told me something that broke my heart a little bit today; they're going to quit publishing their fanfic.
My instant thought was that they had been trolled or attacked or that something terrible had happened in their life because this person is so passionate about their writing. It wasn't any of that. Engagement with their works has been going down, as it has for many of us. Comments are like gold dust a lot of the time, and just looking through the historical comment counts on old fics on ao3 demonstrates this trend very clearly. It was not simply the comments dropping off which caused them to decide to stop posting, however.
My friend came across a discord server for their fandom (I should point out here that their fandom interest and mine diverged a couple of years ago, we stay in touch but don't currently read each other's posts because I'm not into their fandom and they would rather gouge their eyes out with a wooden spoon than read anything Star Wars) and specifically to share fic in that fandom. They joined, because we all love a good fic rec, only to discover that their latest multichapter fic, which has almost no comments and very few kudos, is being hotly discussed in this server as one of the best stories ever. Not one of these people has bothered to say this to them on the fic. When they asked, none of participants could see the point in telling the author of the fic they apparently loved so much that they love it.
This discovery has absolutely destroyed my friend's love of sharing fic. They share because they love seeing other people's enjoyment, and fic writers do that through comments and kudos/reblogs/likes because we don't get paid. There is no literary critic writing a blog post/article about how amazing the story is for us to copy and keep/frame. There is no money from royalties. All we have are the words of the people reading our works.
Those people on that server could have taken five minutes of the time they spent gushing about how amazing my friend's story was to other people and used it to tell the one person guaranteed to want to hear that praise how much they loved it. They could have taken a moment to express their opinion to the person who spent hours upon hours plotting, writing, editing, and posting those chapters. Instead, they deprived my friend of thing that keeps them sharing their writing, and in the process have killed their love of it. My friend now feels used and unmotivated.
I won't be sharing a link to their fic, they said I could share their experience but not their identity. I know they plan to post one final chapter. I know they intend to express their hurt at being excluded from the praise for the thing they created, and I know they intend to announce that as a consequence they will not be posting for a long while, if at all.
So please, I beg you, don't hide your love of a story from the writer. It's just about the only thing we have.
#fanfiction#fanfic#ao3 writer#ao3 fanfic#writing is hard#fanfic writing#writer stuff#archive of our own#ao3#this isn’t about me#my stuff still has great interaction from readers#although I would never say no to more#but please please please don't hide your enjoyment from us#they feed the gremlins in our heads which give us the stories

Yet another AO3 bot situation - please spread the word!
Hi, it's me again, the person who wrote that viral post about fanfiction plagiarism! Today I'm here to warn you about abuse perpetrated by bots who have stolen AO3 usernames.
There's currently an epidemic of bots going around leaving (apparently random) horrible, hateful comments on people's fics. This isn't the first time bots have invaded AO3, but the big problem with this wave is that they're using real AO3 usernames to do it.
I learned about this when another writer contacted me after receiving the following comment on their story:
Now, while that is my username, I DEFINITELY did not leave this comment (and anyone who would leave something like that on a fic should be slapped! What an awful thing to post). This fic is in a completely unrelated fandom that I have never participated in, nor has that author participated in any of my fandoms, so the probability of it being some intentional fandom drama thing to make me look bad is also low.
The writer whose fic the comment was left on enlisted the aid of some friends and tracked down other guest comments with unrelated usernames attached, which is pretty strong evidence that they are being left by bots at random.
The TL;DR: If you receive a cruel comment from a (Guest) with an actual AO3 username attached, it's most likely from a bot. Please do not lash out at or dogpile the AO3 user who owns that name, and who in all likelihood has no idea that their name has been hijacked for evil.
If finding this kind of comment on a fic, even left by a bot, is likely to upset you, I would recommend changing your comment settings so that only users who are logged in can leave comments. To do this, edit your story settings, and under "Privacy," select the radio button that says "Only registered users can comment," as shown below.
Please spread the word to other AO3 users! And if you see mean guest comments on other fics, maybe let the author know that it's probably from a bot and not a real person who thinks their writing is bad.
#ao3#archive of our own#fanfiction#writing#bot attack#i really don't understand why someone would even do this. why don't ppl use their powers for good?

i love it when people ask me to recommend books to them bc i dont think they realize theyve unlocked a special interest for me. especially when it's like coworkers or people who don't know me very well and so assume i am quiet & reserved (which i am) so they get a face-full of my enthusiasm and it clearly surprises them. but like. i have SO many book opinions and love recommending things and talking things i've rec'd to people after they read it, so i definitely get over-enthusiastic. like i clearly remember one of my old bosses asking for ya recs and me giving him like. a two-sided piece of paper with titles. and a coworker just asked me for book recs and i had to tell myself enough is enough when i gave them like three paragraph texts worth of recs. i could talk books all day baby this is why i'd kick ass as a librarian.
#liveblogging life#this is also why i double check with people when they ask for book recs bc i WILL go overboard#also had a cousin ask for recs on more women writers bc the poor thing was told he had to read sarah j maas to expand his reading#and i was like. oh GOD bro i will do you a better solid than that#my problem is i really do have to reference my book lists so i dont forget people so like i dont always have my recs immediately on hand#like i have my normal go-tos but for specifics i usually have to look back over my lists to make sure i remember#bc my memory is so dogshit lmao#also like. i think i read pretty widely but for sure it's much harder to rec in certain genres.#like i have some key romances i love but i dont really read very widely in romance so my knowledge is limited#and it's been a struggle to find good books for my nephews bc my preteen/early teen lit is like 20 years out of date tbh#anyway all this to say if you want book recs PLEASE ask me i love it

PSA to all historical fiction/fantasy writers:
A SEAMSTRESS, in a historical sense, is someone whose job is sewing. Just sewing. The main skill involved here is going to be putting the needle into an out of the fabric. They’re usually considered unskilled workers, because everyone can sew, right? (Note: yes, just about everyone could sew historically. And I mean everyone.) They’re usually going to be making either clothes that aren’t fitted (like shirts or shifts or petticoats) or things more along the lines of linens (bedsheets, handkerchiefs, napkins, ect.). Now, a decent number of people would make these things at home, especially in more rural areas, since they don’t take a ton of practice, but they’re also often available ready-made so it’s not an uncommon job. Nowadays it just means someone whose job is to sew things in general, but this was not the case historically. Calling a dressmaker a seamstress would be like asking a portrait painter to paint your house
A DRESSMAKER (or mantua maker before the early 1800s) makes clothing though the skill of draping (which is when you don’t use as many patterns and more drape the fabric over the person’s body to fit it and pin from there (although they did start using more patterns in the early 19th century). They’re usually going to work exclusively for women, since menswear is rarely made through this method (could be different in a fantasy world though). Sometimes you also see them called “gown makers”, especially if they were men (like tailors advertising that that could do both. Mantua-maker was a very feminized term, like seamstress. You wouldn’t really call a man that historically). This is a pretty new trade; it only really sprung up in the later 1600s, when the mantua dress came into fashion (hence the name).
TAILORS make clothing by using the method of patterning: they take measurements and use those measurements to draw out a 2D pattern that is then sewed up into the 3D item of clothing (unlike the dressmakers, who drape the item as a 3D piece of clothing originally). They usually did menswear, but also plenty of pieces of womenswear, especially things made similarly to menswear: riding habits, overcoats, the like. Before the dressmaking trade split off (for very interesting reason I suggest looking into. Basically new fashion required new methods that tailors thought were beneath them), tailors made everyone’s clothes. And also it was not uncommon for them to alter clothes (dressmakers did this too). Staymakers are a sort of subsect of tailors that made corsets or stays (which are made with tailoring methods but most of the time in urban areas a staymaker could find enough work so just do stays, although most tailors could and would make them).
Tailors and dressmakers are both skilled workers. Those aren’t skills that most people could do at home. Fitted things like dresses and jackets and things would probably be made professionally and for the wearer even by the working class (with some exceptions of course). Making all clothes at home didn’t really become a thing until the mid Victorian era.
And then of course there are other trades that involve the skill of sewing, such as millinery (not just hats, historically they did all kinds of women’s accessories), trimming for hatmaking (putting on the hat and and binding and things), glovemaking (self explanatory) and such.
TLDR: seamstress, dressmaker, and tailor are three very different jobs with different skills and levels of prestige. Don’t use them interchangeably and for the love of all that is holy please don’t call someone a seamstress when they’re a dressmaker
