“Why’re we doing this again?” Lily asked grumpily, tripping along the dirt and rock-covered passage beneath the old statue. “We’re going to get caught, Remus, I-”

“It’s worth it,” Remus interrupted, huffing a bit as he walked. “And we’ll be in and out in two minutes. I just need something for Sirius, it’s our one month anniversary, and-”

“One month?” Lily repeated, stopping short and giving him a look. “I can’t decide if that’s adorable or insufferable.”

“Probably a bit of both,” Remus reasoned, continuing along unbothered.

But as they snuck up the stairs of Honeydukes and looked around the little shop, Remus stopped short, his body going cold.

“Remus!?”

“Sirius?!”

“James?”

“Lily?”

He gaped at Sirius and James, who were standing at the other end of the small store, kicking their feet guiltily. “What are you two doing here?”

Sirius blushed. “I was…I mean, it’s a bit stupid, and you probably haven’t been keeping track, but we’ve been dating for one month, so I wanted to get you that chocolate you really like..”

Remus grinned, cheeks warming as well. “That’s why I’m here. To get something for you.”

Immediately, James threw his arms around both of them, yelling loudly. “Ahhhh, young love! Makes you want to…dunno…go on a date! Right, Evans?”

Lily just rolled her eyes. “Fuck off, Potter.”

Wolfstar’s dynamic is so interesting to me, there are so many layers and perspectives. I love the idea that they balance each other out. Sirius is dramatic and loud, but when Remus pulls him down into his lap while he reads, Sirius quiets, relaxes, and finds moments of calm and security. There’s something about being an extrovert and having someone who grounds you, someone who brings an element of peace into your life and kind of forces you to take quiet time you wouldn’t normally give yourself.

And then there’s Remus, who is sarcastic, smart, and reserved. Sometimes, he accidentally isolates himself from others, but Sirius is always there to pull him out. Sirius, who makes an effort to include Remus when he starts to withdraw. Sirius, who makes him laugh and gets him talking about the things he’s passionate about.

I read over my first fanfic (which was literally only posted 4 months ago) and was amazed at how bad it was compared to my writing now (which still isn't great but even I could see a massive improvement)

I would have stopped trying if it wasn't for amazing friends and strangers who kept encouraging me and I can only think how much better I might be in a year, 2 years, 5 years time!

So thank you fanfic for making me happy (both reading and writing).

“James? What was that letter? Is it from Dumbledore?” Lily calls from the kitchen.

James stares down at the sealed envelope, nothing written on it except “James” in beautiful handwriting. Handwriting James would know anywhere.

He clenches his jaw. Closes his eyes. Makes a decision.

The letter is tossed into the burning fireplace James stands in front of.

“Nothing, Lily, it was nothing,” he calls back, turning away from the fire.

Flames lick at the parchment and swiftly turning the letter to ash. The smudged ink, the tear-stained paper, that will never be seen. The hastily written words that will never be read.

James,

I know you wanted to never hear from me again, I know you hate me, I know you’re married to Evans now and you’re happy, and I know, I know, and I’m sorry. Merlin, I’m sorry. You probably think this isn’t even me. I don’t think I ever said those words to you. Apologized. I should have.

I was wrong. I was so wrong. About everything. I thought I could do this. I can’t. I can’t.

Something happened. And I have to do something, I need your help, and I’m going to die. That’s fine. It’s okay, I’ve accepted it. It has to be done. It has to be me.

I just can’t die with you still thinking I was fighting on the wrong side. I’m not, anymore. I never really was. You probably won’t believe that. That’s fine too. Please just believe that I died trying to do something right. For once, in my entire life, I’m doing the right thing.

I couldn’t write Sirius. I just can’t do it. Please tell him. And tell him I’m sorry. Tell my brother I did love him. I never told him that.

sirius quiet consideration for those he loves breaks my heart into a million pieces. sirius being really sentimental at his core. sirius keeping letters and being unable to clear out his brothers room when he moved back into grimmauld place. sirius who remembers every detail his friends ever told him. sirius’ friends being surprised when he knows things about them they dont remember telling him or only told him in passing but he never forgot it. sirius being incredibly considerate when he cares but always in a quiet way. making tea for remus after full moons when hes too tired to do it himself. marking peters practice tests and leaving notes and advice in the margins. always returning the muggle books lily lends him and never dog earring them. tucking james feet back under the covers in the winter. sirius who is cold and uncaring to most people, who can be callous and cruel. sirius who loves deeply and unconditionally, loves like fire. sirius’ love can burn it all down, rage and ruin and unrelenting. sirius’ love will sit at your feet and keep your toes warm.

Sirius grasped his hand briefly, nodded to Dumbledore, transformed again into the black dog, and ran the length of the room to the door, whose handle he turned with a paw. Then he was gone.
