In all seriousness, I think one of the most obvious parallels from past campaigns to Imogen is Caleb, and while I've talked about the reductive ways people have interacted with Caleb in the past (Sad Boy hours and whatnot) it is frustrating how Imogen is so frequently denied the same complexity. Caleb was traumatized, and lonely, and nearly friendless but for one person he'd met under difficult circumstances some time before joining the larger party, but he was also (for the most part) allowed by the fandom to be exceptionally violent and brutal in combat; to be angry at all the time he had lost and at the people who'd taken advantage of him; to have possibly questionable goals; and to, at times, work against the better interests of the party in service of his own priorities. He was allowed to fall down and look ridiculous and to be immensely powerful but he was also allowed to be far more than that dichotomy. And, most importantly, and to be fair this was somewhat more hotly contested, he was allowed to claim responsibility for his actions and to exist in a space where he was both a victim of manipulation and willingly made his own choices based on that manipulation, and still be worthy of a heroic status.

Imogen is so frequently denied these opportunities and this complexity- and not by her detractors, but by her claimed fans. She's allowed to be a failgirl who falls down the stairs and she's allowed to get the HDYWTDT but she's not allowed to be the person who deliberately triggered the traps to light up the rivals during the museum heist. You can't explore how cold she is to her father or how she grants her mother undeserved leniency - that's unkind to Imogen. She's not allowed to bear partial responsibility for how people in Gelvaan treat her, even after she nearly killed several of them. She's not allowed to have powers that are a liability or that intrude upon others' privacy; it's only allowed to be explored as her pain and nothing more. Her petty and bitter asides are either made out to be badass mic drops or conveniently ignored. If she wants to explore her darker tendencies it's bad unless she's doing it with Laudna in which case it's good. Her powers have, understandably, left her with fascinating gaps in her communication skills, which is a great point to be made about psychics, but that's neglected when so many people act as if it's everyone else's responsibility to accurately interpret her. It's impossible to explore how her worldview is often very focused on herself without a strong sense of the larger picture - not even self-centered, though it can be, but often merely limited due to her own sheltered experience - because within many fandom circles, every other character's morality is judged based on how far backwards they bend to accommodate her.

In the Evelyn lives alt au I'm not sure who has it worse. Evelyn when she realizes she and Caleb are moving in with her brother in law, who she has a VERY complicated relationship with.

Or Philip when he realizes that Caleb and Evelyn are just as lovey dovey towards each other as they were 400 years ago, and now they're living in his house.

They have such a funny dynamic honestly

before i sleep: caduceus autismposting . i think when he infodumps he just gets into his Talking Abt Interest mode and its a little intense but tmn understand and especially beau or jester can handle it. but he like makes very intense eye contact and wrings his hands the entire time with his silly smile and follows whoever around if theyre doing something and tells them, in a weird roundabout excited way, that his family have a graveyard (not a cemetery) and they make tea out of the plants that grow from the bodies and didnt you know that they all make all sorts of different kinds of plants for different teas with unique tastes its all very interesting didnt you know that? and he has told everyone about this in detail several times

(the fleet which he's a part of) she feels guilty and for a moment i was like yea... but then i remembered this guy made MC think he was dead for who knows how long, so any guilt i had dissipated LMAO

random unpopular opinion but with everyone on twt and tiktok complaining that mc's reaction to caleb was underwhelming i kinda disagree?? like ok yes she had every right to be angry at him for hiding that he was alive for so long but i think her being more relieved and happy to see him again makes perfect sense?? like that's her only companion/family/friend so ofc the first thing she's gonna feel is happiness to see he's not dead?? i do think they did a good job showing how her initial happiness starts to turn into doubt the more time she spends with him tho... honestly that's how it would've gone down if it were me !!

i think infold wanted you to go through that exact process !! bc at first mc feels guilty for suspecting him bc well... that's caleb !! that's the caleb who has always been kind and looked out for her. in mc's eyes caleb is the embodiment of perfection... she cannot see him as someone who can do harm or do "bad things" bc that's just not the caleb she was exposed to! only after the chapters continue progressing does she start understanding the fact that oh wait.. maybe there's more to caleb than i ever realized.. and that's why she starts getting more bold with her accusations and anger !!

but yeah your guilt going away is probably EXACTLY what infold wanted... they want you to feel like mc.. first thinking oh it's our sweet childhood friend caleb how could i ever doubt him?? to then going oh wait he's been hiding things and maybe i need to be more curious and cautious...

imagine them driving down an empty highway windows rolled down in the early morning hours, already going kind of over the speed limit; the only lights being their headlights, the few dim street lamps, and a rare passing car. caleb has the wheel and is arguing with chase when he unbuckles his seatbelt, partly balancing around the gearshift, with half his body out of the sunroof, pumping his fists into the air, cheering loudly, pulling his phone out to record himself, and egging caleb on to go faster ("you drive like my grandma and she died before i was born!") and caleb's eye-rolling going "i rlly don't feel like seeing you fly out of the car and explain this to the ER" and "im your rationale, even if it means saving you from your shitty choices" and chase is like bOOOO LAME

but...caleb speeds up. just a little. bc he likes hearing chase laugh (he's a romantic like that, what a sap smh) (and alternates between looking out at the road, and looking up the sunroof at chase. growing dopey smile and all)

Caleb and Darwin have arrived!

Finished these two in record time! I also had them in more dynamic poses to make up for how out of character the other two were (cough cough Beast)

Caleb possesses the Gup-C, while Darwin has the Gup-D! Much like the two before them, they borrow some design points from their main drivers, but it is a lot less obvious now.

Yes, I watch MSA, and now, I’m honestly on the mood to see these guys get drunk together after what they both went through lol. 

I always thought Austin and Caleb deserved better, but after editing them (probably gonna come out after Holy Week ^^) with that initial motivation, I just felt worse for them. Austin was a well-written character, and I can’t believe Emma just straight up only waited for Caleb to snap, so she can have a reason to break up with him lol (he’s an ultimate bf material and she wasted him XD). They’re flawed characters esp. Austin but they still loved their gfs no matter what.  I am aware that you can’t force or stop your feelings towards a person, but the girls still cheated with these guys who loved, cared and made so much effort for them with their very own brothers. I just really feel bad for Caleb more because he continually supports and believes in his gf only for him to be villainized in the end just because he reacted in a way normal people do when they find out their partner is cheating on them with their brother. For Austin, he’s one of my favorite guys (even if this art style isn’t my bias as I’m only watching MSA for a good story) and I’m at least happy he got a redeeming moment and closure. Tbh, Sam and Apollo could have been one of MSA’s best love stories if only she wasn’t dating Austin when she started to have feelings for her bf’s brother. Girl legit thought how her bf’s twin is hotter in their first meeting lol. Austin might be a jerk sometimes, but he wanted her to be happy.. and Apollo too. He just suffered like Apollo, and he deserved to be happy after sacrificing his feelings for the people most important to him.
