22: Nothing gets me more hyped and ready for the future that awaits than opening songs for video games honestly, but the BEST example of this is Super Paper Mario's theme. You open the game and get past the FANTASTIC cutscene and then you're at the menu and this delightful little jingle plays and it's so wonderful! I feel great when I hear it and it pumps me UP for anything that's coming my way, be it the actual game it comes from or the rest of my day :]
30: I'm one of those people who has a hard time linking songs to myself... But I think Weezer's Foolish Father from EWBAITE hits so close to home it may as well be my theme song. And I have a LOT to say about this so if you don't mind I'm putting all that under the cut. I'm normal about Foolish Father. I promise. The short of it is EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT IN THE END! THAT'S MY MANTRA! THAT'S MY SLOGAN BABY! And also dads can be awesome.
Okay so to get the obvious out of the way, Foolish Father is about a daughter and her father and the daughter doesn't like the father but she needs to learn that he's just doing his best for her. This was me, once upon a time! I was that daughter!
I grew up under the impression that moms are good and dads are bad. Or I guess that if a parent screws up, it's gonna be the dad. I lived under that assumption for years because my dad wasn't able to be around to give a real example. I didn't know it back then, but that was because he had to travel damn near a full hour both ways to get to work, which was in another city entirely. Or... 'he did the best that he could do/You are his daughter/and he'd do anything for you'
It wasn't until I got older and lived with my dad that I got to see him for the man he really was. He's a genuine man, he LOVES his kids more than I think I'm fully comprehending STILL, and while he may be foolish at times he's doing his goddamn best because being a single dad is hard in this economy and DID I MENTION HE LOVES HIS KIDS. That's like half the point of Foolish Father as a song! I was fully prepared as a child to grow up hating my father, and now as an adult I wish I could grab that kid by the shoulders and gently tell her that her dad is one of the greatest dads out there. Or... 'Forgive your foolish father'
AND NOW. THE HITTER. In the song there's a whole bit at the end where there's a chorus singing the phrase 'Everything will be alright/in the end' and oohhh. ohhhhh. Ouguhghg. ghgug. That's what I been SAYING. I do my best to be optimistic and positive and to spread joy and hope and love to others. Not for an end goal, just because I can! I want to be kind! I want to believe that people can be kind! I BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE CAN BE KIND! AND THAT WE CAN PICK EACH OTHER UP AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT BECAUSE WE ARE CREATURES OF LOVE AND HOPE. And we will be alright. We will be alright.
