Do you think that if Shen Yuan had transmigrated into the protagonist’s role he would have found a way to give the body back to Binghe because he felt it was just too much of a pity to simply do away with the original?

Unbeknownst to him, Binghe’s there. Watching. Growing alongside his possessed body.

Shen Yuan does the Abyss Arc himself. It wouldn’t do to awaken the poor boy’s spirit just to throw him to the wolves! And, okay, he can maybe fix some plot holes, unveil some secrets, deal with rat bastard authors, and take over the demon realm before returning the body. He’s leaving the harem gathering for Binghe, though! And, he stores away every treasure!

He’s not so presumptuous as to steal the joys of demonic lordship from the protagonist. He can do the hard part, and then give Binghe his body back to enjoy the fruits of Shen Yuan’s labour!

If he makes this sacrifice, surely the protagonist would let him live despite his transgressions?

He finds a body for himself, returns the goods, and all concludes peacefully and with as little bloodshed as possible. (It’s still a lot. Alas.)

And then his plan would hit the predictable snag of Luo Binghe misunderstanding the whole thing, leaving him with only the notion that a gentle, pretty, protective and other adjectives god-alien spirit had basically died of rage on his behalf and shouldered all of Binghe’s difficulties in order to spare him countless agonies and troubles.

How does one go about repaying that? Is marriage even enough?! Was this a form of courting?! How is this even supposed to work!

Also Shen Yuan believes putting off wife-gathering for a later date doesn’t affect the harem in any way. When Binghe’s back, he’ll do his protagonist best and get them back. Those who can’t even wait a few years, do they even deserve to have Luo Binghe’s regard?

(Luo Binghe is clawing at the walls with how Shen Yuan misses the implications of that statement. Meng Mo has developed spirit instabilty out of rage. Shang Qinghua is not helping.)

Y'know what I want? More meng mo and shen qingqiu interaction. The few scenes we got with them was honestly golden. The slight concern meng mo showed him after the punishment and the way he sort of helped him? Despite him "hating" shen qingqiu? Their relationship kind of gives me like estranged uncle you only see like every other christmas that always has something to say about you. But it's clear its not like malicious it just comes off as awkward.

I read this one fic awhile ago about shen qingqiu and binghe accidentally body swapping while binghe was in the abyss and shen qingqiu took it upon himself to help out binghe while like expertly navigating through the abyss. And because shen qingqiu was in binghes body, meng mo and him got to talk a bit. The way the author wrote meng mo was so fucking funny dude. Like bro was going through the 5 stages of grief and somehow ended up begging binghe to marry shen qingqiu. Peak comedy.

Action RPG AU where SY is the final boss in Endless Abyss, and Binghe has to defeat him to get Xin Mo (how he defeats him, you decide)

Luo Binghe is kind of an orphan, but he also has SO many deadbeat, dead, or creepy parental figures or technical parents, it's SO funny to me. He only actually wants, like, two of them in his life.

The washerwoman: adoptive mother. Loved her and misses her to this day. Only mother he cares about.

Unknown potential miscellaneous caretakers between the fishermen finding him in the Luo River and his adoptive mother taking him in. SOMEONE had to nurse this kid if he wasn't actually adopted by the washerwoman immediately.

Su Xiyan: birth mother. If anyone told him about the "set adrift in a river" thing, he probably assumed for most of his life that a birth parent left him for dead.

Shen Qingqiu (Shen Jiu): teacher and master. If Shen Jiu didn't give Binghe a lot of his issues, then he definitely made them worse!

Shen Qingqiu (Shen Yuan): teacher and master. The "can't I look at what I raised?" is there and cannot be taken back, and it does just get weirder from there. No, I don't think Shen Yuan would be thrilled about being on this list at all.

Meng Mo: teacher and portable grandfather. This demon had to talk Binghe into being his student and settle for not even being called "Shifu". Probably gives terrible advice.

Shang Qinghua: father to Binghe as much as he's father to everyone in this world that he wrote. Does NOT want Binghe to know this. Probably gave Binghe a lot of his own issues. Sure does give advice.

Mobei-Jun: demon mentor (arguable) and stepfather through the author father thing. Does not know this. Definitely gives terrible advice.

Huan Hua Palace Master: master of Binghe's birth mother, wants to be Binghe's father-in-law and is also using him as a replacement Su Xiyan. Threw Gongyi Xiao aside IMMEDIATELY to take Binghe in and put Binghe in charge of the Jin Lan City mission even when he wasn't an official disciple.

Tianlang-Jun: birth father. Sealed away before Binghe's birth and comes back to cause SO MANY problems.

PART TWO OF THAT ONE ANON'S ASK WITH THE REACTIONS OF IMPORTANT DEMONS TO SHEN YUAN (*pulls out the wiki*...now, who's important enough to yap about.....): Sha Hualing: Sha Hualing underestimates Shen Yuan at first, believing him to be just another stepping stone to power - if she can make Luo Binghe deal with her existence, she can do anything! So, she puts on the charm: "oh, Ling-er got lost...can the benevolent corvid deity help her?" all coy and demure. Then SY stares at her, and she can just SEE how her flirting flies over his head before he says "yeah! Of course I can." So, she thinks he's a moron, a brilliant thing for her if she wants to be more powerful. However, SHL then has to watch as all of these demons and yao trip over one another to try and court SY and is like "oh...oh I see...." and tips her hat to him - after all, she has to respect a man who can also use his pretty qualities to get as much power as he wants!!! She sees him, she knows what he's doing... Mobei-Jun: Mobei-Jun doesn't really care about Shen Yuan at all - it's strange that Luo Binghe keeps fawning over him and Sha Hualing nods in approval every time it happens, but it's none of his business. Let this strange crow demon do what he wants, as long as he leaves Mobei-Jun out of it. However, he soon learns that Shang Qinghua is close with SY. The same SY who SHL respects for his faux-innocent flirting with every man who has a conversation with him. MBJ MUST KNOW EVERYTHING. He goes to fight for his right to court SQH, has a singular conversation with SY, and realises that SHL is overestimating SY and that the corvid deity is actually just That Oblivious. So, instead of trying to kill SY, he starts grilling him for details about what would make SQH love him. SY needs a drink. Linguang-Jun: Linguang-Jun hears of Shen Yuan - a new demon that can compete with Luo Binghe, and therefore destroy him!!! PERFECT for LGJ's plot to kill Mobei-Jun. He simply has to get SY on his side, which should be easy to do with his natural charm- he gets hit with the wifebeam. Nobody sees this coming, not even me, but he ends his "interrogation" (conversation) sighing dreamily at the power this heavenly demon holds so casually, without even batting an eye about all the people he has under his thumb. GOD, he wants him carnally (only SY could make this happen in a freak like LGJ). Meng Mo: MENG MO HAS HONESTLY GONE INSANE. HE WAS SENT INTO THE MIND OF SHEN YUAN TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THERE, BUT IT. IT MAKES NO SENSE. WHAT'S- WHO IS THIS FREAK. WHY'S HE SO NICE??? WHY ARE HIS THOUGHTS INSANE??? WHY DOES NOBODY FUCKING BELIEVE HIM WHEN HE SAYS THAT THIS IS A FUCKING WEIRDO WHO KNOWS FAR FAR TOO MUCH ABOUT EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING. THIS ISN'T JUST WHAT 'CROW DEMONS' KNOW. Shen Yuan dies from expired food

He doesn't exactly find himself in a new body, but his self-awareness doesn't exactly go away.

Instead, he finds himself bodiless in a dark void with nothing but his thoughts. He has so many thoughts that rage through him about how PIDW ended. He's actually more easily able to focus his anger at Luo Binghe's bad ending than at the fact that he died. With nothing to do but think, he comes up with hundreds of ways the story could have gone that would be more satisfying for his favorite Protagonist.

Eventually, he's not sure exactly when, he realizes that he can manifest visions from his thoughts into the empty space. Landscapes, beasts, swords, and eventually even people--though, unnervingly, it seems he can't do faces.

Things continue like this until one day, his little soap bubble dream world is abruptly popped, and he finds himself in the room of a lavish demonic palace. He still hasn't got much of a body beyond a wisp of smoke, but a pointy eared girl without shoes that he's pretty sure is Sha Hualing??? What the fuck??? Is yelling at him and calling him Meng Mo.

After she mentions releasing him to attack a boy that caught her eye, Shen Yuan (Or... Meng Mo, now) is PUMPED! Not only does he get to meet Luo Binghe, he gets to go and LIVE INSIDE HIM!

I am definitely not the first person to joke about how many Shens there are in danmei, but it does strike me as very funny that out of the Seven Seas line up, we currently have 4-5 protagonists/love interests with the surname "Shen." And then that sparked a question... just how many Shens are there in danmei?

So here is my request. If you have a danmei Shen not included on this list, please reblog or comment with his name and book. The only requirements are that he has to be one of the leads, and his surname has to be Shen*. Extra data, such as the character used for his name, is also welcome. It is worth acknowledging that sometimes it may be unclear whether or not a character should be counted as a Shen; in that case, I will put it to a vote. Once we have all the necessary data, we can create the first (at least to my knowledge) comprehensive database of Shens.

brother duo bingge and bingmei. bingge raps and bingmei is a vocalist. they take over tianlang’s former agency after they get ousted from cang qiong. both of them have only one goal: get shen yuan to sign with them.

shen yuan is a soloist. shen jiu is part of co-ed idol group “peak lords” or “cqs” or “tian gong” or something of the sort (i’m not great at naming things) and resents shen yuan for making it on his own and hates the bingbros for many other but similar reasons. he manages to get the bingboys thrown out of their agency, enraging absolutely everybody but yue qingyuan. shang qinghua leaves the agency after a scandal involving the mobei group’s heir.

sha hualing is a solo rapper. liu mingyan and ning yingying are the most popular members of cang qiong’s most successful girl group whose albums i’ve got twenty copies of, each. meng mo is an old ballad singer who retired after growing disilusioned with the celebrity lifestyle and decided to help out the heavenly demons agency (again. bad at names) cause he’s bored. stylist six balls

Shen Qingqiu/Meng Mo

When I saw this my first thought was a "Shen Jiu's conscious is still around" au, and when Shen Yuan and Binghe are fighting Meng Mo, Shen Jiu is finally able to make himself heard. Meng Mo and him bond over being accidental parasites to the ungrateful young people

I love that. It's so beautiful. I can imagine them spitting blood anytime bingqiu shenanigans go on... That would be so entertaining to have Meng Mo and Shen Jiu making running commentary like it's a sports game whenever Bingqiu does something.

The au I've been playing with recently is OG!SQQ dying and reincarnating into SY and then transmigrating back into SQQ, and Meng Mo helping SQQ unwrap his memories.

I also love the thought of SQQ and Meng Mo just beginning to chat after the dream realm arc, co-shizunning Binghe even though Binghe is of course going 'I only have one Shizun!', and then Mengshen just having intellectual conversations with one another.

(Meng Mo, feed up after this brat keeps on refusing to become his direct disciple: "Fine! If this brat won't accept me as his Shifu, I might as well become his Shimu!")

I think Meng Mo is uniquely equipped to be one of, if not only, people able to engage with a discussion of history, lore, flora, fauna and the world of svsss at large with Shen Qingqiu.

And there's also the fact that Meng Mo might be one of the only people to actually have insight into SQQ's intentions and thoughts. He canonically is aware of Shen Jiu's past, and even weaponizes the tragic memories of Shen Jiu against Qiu Haitang, while also declining to subject Shen Qingqiu to them. (Need citation for the last part I can't quite remember but Im pretty sure this happens? Anyway, grain of salt.)

And Meng Mo had access to Shen Qingqiu's dreamscape before LBH did. And displays more awareness of Shen Qingqiu's mind than most, So Meng Mo is uniquely suited to be shipped with beloved fandom bicycle SQQ

(Also Meng Mo is still a demon, and seems to be aware of what the actions Shen Qingqiu took in the Holy Mausoleum, so between SQQ's unnatural learned-ness about the place and how hardcore it is to rip the Ties that Bind (Or Qingxi? If I remember) out of his arm. Any, I think, demon would find that attractive.)

I also love how Meng Mo and SQQ work together in the Holy Mausoleum arc.

I have many thoughts on this rarepair of mine, and I need to reread canon specifically for this pairing, but I hope anyone who is interested enjoyed. Thanks for the ask, and sorry if I rambled a bit
